Suarez and Nkunku deadline day players to watch

by .

Oh, man, too much excitement.

We’ve pretty much landed Denis Suarez. There was some worry, mostly fueled by me, that the deal was going to fail because Barca dropped the announcement of their homepage… however, there has been no noise about a failed medical.

Ornstein reckons Perisic and Carassco deals are very unlikely, but the Nkunku deal is 50/50.

So we have a wide left player who can give Emery more finesse with touch and a bit more energy moving the ball and potentially a utility midfielder who can play right back.

There is a horror thread from David Cartlidge on Suarez.

If you click into it, he basically says Emery didn’t know how to use him, the player is no more than a cog in a machine (our machine is bad), and he has issues like a lack of personality and the inability to impose himself on games.

Well, he has it all to prove at Arsenal. At least if it goes badly, we can send him back.

In other news, ESR has moved to Leipzig on loan. A bloody excellent move. Nketiah has gone to work with Jens at Augsburg in Germany. Ben Knapper working that new loans job well. GOOD LUCK CHAPS.

In footballing news, Arsenal moved back into 4th after Chelsea took a SPANKING at Bournemouth. Other good news stretched to Liverpool drawing.

For all the shrieks of ‘Emery can’t compete for top 4’, it appears that with a squad of supposedly shite players, we’re in 4th heading into February.

It’s all about coaching now. If Rafa Benitez can beat Pep, then there’s no reason we can’t. Apparently, we have the same points total as them since late August.

Just don’t play a high line… please, please, please don’t put us through that.

Right, that’s me done. I did a podcast for your ears. I’m alone.

Abramovich assembled a stronger squad at Chelsea and exposed Wenger as a tactical imbecile.

Charlie George

“””A certain Zlatan comes to mind “”

ok- you got me .

1(ONE)??

i think you will find even the uniquely fit Zlatan did not last the full season.

Another busted ACL due to the demands to our impossibly difficult league.

Any others you can think of Sherlock?

Redtruth

Remember, Wenger relied on.players to play to form rather than setting up a team to.perform.

DivineSherlock

Charlie George

You are missing the point , he wasnt bought as starting option as RB . He was bought as a backup to Bellerin. A free transfer . Nobody foresaw a season ending injury to Bellerin . He was the defacto starting choice. What part of this is difficult to understand

Redtruth

It will take Emery at least two seasons to set free the brainwashed players and instill back the fundementals….

DivineSherlock

And I am in no way defending Lichtsteiner , he has been awful at times. But the signing had more merit than you are willing to look at.

Receding Hairline

Conte, Ancelloti, Ranieri..just a few names of foreigners who have won your “impossibly difficult league” at the first time of asking.

Redtruth

I heard Ozil and a few others had meltdowns because Emery gave a tactical session in training….

Receding Hairline

And I am in no way defending Lichtsteiner , he has been awful at times. But the signing had more merit than you are willing to look at.

Yes, everyone on this platform could see what the idea was when he signed, i think it was only Ishola who wasn’t impressed, now we are all very smart guys after the fact, hindsight and all..

Charlie George

DS

ok
fair assessment

But Why not buy someone 24 not 34?
Why not prioritise Chambers – who finished last season in the team and playing well and has more versatility?

And I think – if you are being totally honest Sherlock…

It was a signing that shows the complete unsuitability of the New regime

I would go as far to say. The Lichsteiner debacle- is the reason is our lovely Hector – is now lying in a hospital bed -with his career in jeopardy. ..

Redtruth

Pellegrini won the League and Cup Double in his first season in England after winning nothing in Spain..

Goobergooner

Pierre and mhkit had a meltdown because of a tactical session they had no clue about

Redtruth

Bellerin is too inconsistent to merit his absence as a loss to Arsenal.

DivineSherlock

Charlie George

Everybody on this blog has never rated Chambers . Its good that he is getting game time at Fulham , Thats an experience he wasn’t guaranteed at Arsenal with Bellerin the starting choice. As for not signing someone younger , you dont want the same situation as Laca/Auba at RB. & Maybe it was Chambers who wanted more game time, we dont know definitively.

Redtruth

I wouldn’t believe everything you read in the Sun….lol lol

Goobergooner

Un na,
Wenger was still here for half of them, you think his regime was overruled so severely while he was still here?

Valentin

Zlatan, the running striker who famously when at Barcelona had a game where he ran less than their goalkeeper!

Redtruth

I do know Wenget left about six panic buys in the side.
Wenger was spending money like there was no tomortow when he realised his position at the club wss threatened….

Redtruth

For Wenger to succeed he would of needed a budget of £500m.

Charlie George

“Everybody on this blog has never rated Chambers .””

Is that why – you are called Divine Sherlock?

I rate his versatility, fitness and attitude. He is a model pro.
I think with a bit of”spit an polish” (coaching) he could be a useful addition to the squad.

Redtruth

Wenger’s leagacy is that he left the club in a poorer state than when he arrived.

Goobergooner

Also how the fuck is Kim kallstrom not the worst ever signing?

Wenger lost all respect from me for that one signing.

Tony

Graham Not really detailed, but I didn’t want to put a long post on the subject. I totally agree with your points, however the game has been changing worldwide since the last WC, but England under Lancaster continued old school until Jones was appointed so they have been late to the expansive revolution. England are still blowing hot and cold where they upset Australia on their patch then come back and make too many rudimentary errors culminating in too many penalties, which need to be in single figures for winning a game. Tomorrow will tell us if we learnt from… Read more »

I can’t see the Rams winning on Sunday night. I think the Pats OL can handle Aaron Donald and pals. Can see it ending a 2 score game actually.

Chambers needs to find his feet in the lower leagues before dreaming of playing for a prestigious like Arsenal.

Morata deal to Atleti is an odd one from the outside looking in, the opposite of your archetypal Simeone type player but he clearly sees something worth pursuing in him considering he already has Costa, Griezmann and Kalinic at CF.

“Such a broody and delicate character though that needs a perfect environment to perform, ”
————–
Sounds like me..Broody,a bit delicate, needing a perfect/ideal environment in which to flourish.. 🙂

Sounds like Ozil also..(my favourite player, who unfortunately has disappointed over the long term at Arsenal..Sigh)

Micheal

Thanks. I have no interest in the game personally and certainly won’t watch. But I thought people here might be interested in the item because of Stan’s link.

Tony, Graham’s ‘international coaching acumen’, that’s a stretch after he said England ‘relied on ignorance’ and then jumped back to argue that the great Welsh backs of the 70s illustrate how England are deficient now.

Still I’m sure you’ve made him feel a head taller so I suppose you were justified!

I think the worst deal/transaction for me,was us selling RVP to ManUre..And the fact that Arsene bragged about it.To paraphrase him-‘I knew selling RVP to ManUre would seal them the EPL crown.”

That was a shake my head moment. The man has truly lost it.Not fit for purpose(as manager).Unforgivable that act he committed.Tantamount to treason as an Arsenal fan.

Bob N16

Tony, told you Graham would like your post!

DivineSherlock

Charlie George

Clearly people more qualified and experienced people had a look at Chambers and decided he needed more experience or maybe he is not all that good and decided to loan him to Fulham. Which is good considering Lichtsteiner is signed for a year only. Which means next season we have two RBs Chambers and Bellerin . or We might raise the market value of Chambers and sell him.

Nelson

I predict Emery will use the same formation as the one vs Chelsea, 4-4-2 with the same midfield diagram. If we were chasing a game after 70 minutes, he’ll bring in Iwobi and Suarez to replace Laca and Ramsey. The system will switch to 4 -3 -3.

Graham62

BobN16

Not at all.

I said nothing sbout “International coaching acumen?” Just a couple of coaching badges and helping out at a few local schools and clubs.

Tony assumes we all live in the rolling hills of Surrey and have a heated swimming pool and a double garage. All very amusing.

“”Clearly people more qualified and experienced people had a look at Chambers and decided he needed more experience “” I presume you are referring to Raul/Emery (Combined experience of English football 4 months -when decision made to loan him out) Chambers has 5 years experience of playing in the Prem -He KNOWS more about English football than these 2 put together. With regards to Emery… I think we all know,or have come to the conclusion, that Emery is a transitional manager.Brought in to stabilise the ship, tasked with getting us back into top four as a bare minimum, whilst working within a budgetary constraint..Nothing more, nothing less. For other fans,to think he would come in, given the inherited mess -he has to contend with and the seemingly objective goal of securing top four at AFC,hence turning this oil tanker around overnight is fanciful. Arsene and Gazidis had repeatedly mentioned over the years that top four was essentially our goal.Arsene went so far as to benchmark… Read more »

And I apply this too you Jim.

Dream10

Nelson

I think Emery will opt for the 4-2-3-1 he played against Utd. Aubameyang, Ramsey, Iwobi behind Lacazette. The worry for me when we play against a top side is the wide areas. Opposition full backs and wide forwards are often the best players against us. Sterling and Sane were awful against Newcastle. They will trouble us. Also, Mendy returned to training a few weeks ago. He could make his return. Emery is bullish and won’t change his philosophy with the full backs as wingers and a Kos,Mustafi or Monreal in a high line.

Receding Hairline

Barcelona just signed two defenders

Highly rated 19 year old Todibo from Toulouse for practically nothing and 20 year old Emerson for 12m euros from Athletico Miniero

We still aren’t doing all we can when it comes to scouting and making moves early in my opinion and No Sven doesn’t work for them nor do they have any celebrity scout…these things can be done

DivineSherlock

Charlie George There is a reason why Arsenal is currently in 4th position in the league. I sincerely hope you are more than what you speak , cos I honestly cant believe the words you’ve said . Emery might turn out to be bad for our club and Raul too but we have an owner , someone who owns Arsenal Football Club . He has made those appointments . A child asked his father, “How were people born?” So his father said, “Adam and Eve made babies, then their babies became adults and made babies, and so on.” The child then went to his mother, asked her the same question and she told him, “We were monkeys then we evolved to become like we are now.” The child ran back to his father and said, “You lied to me!” His father replied, “No, your mom was talking about her side of the family.”

Joke Friday –

A Mormon was seated next to an Irishman on a flight from London to the US.

After the plane was airborne, drink orders were taken. The Irishman asked for a whiskey, which was promptly brought and placed before him.

The flight attendant then asked the Mormon if he would like a drink. He replied in disgust, “I’d rather be savagely raped by a dozen whores than let liquor touch my lips.”

The Irishman then handed his drink back to the attendant and said, “Me, too, I didn’t know we had a choice.”

DS “”but we have an owner , someone who owns Arsenal Football Club . He has made those appointments .”” I think you will find that is inaccurate. I was under the impression Gazidas/Raul/Dortmund Eye chose Emery. Nothing to do with Stan. Two of those people have ALREADY left AFC. If we are good enough to be 4th halfway through the season with an injury ravaged squad then we are certainly capable of finishing there in May with no domestic cup competitions and the Europea needing no more thansecond string til the quarters.
