Suarez and Nkunku deadline day players to watch

by .

Oh, man, too much excitement.

We’ve pretty much landed Denis Suarez. There was some worry, mostly fueled by me, that the deal was going to fail because Barca dropped the announcement of their homepage… however, there has been no noise about a failed medical.

Ornstein reckons Perisic and Carassco deals are very unlikely, but the Nkunku deal is 50/50.

So we have a wide left player who can give Emery more finesse with touch and a bit more energy moving the ball and potentially a utility midfielder who can play right back.

There is a horror thread from David Cartlidge on Suarez.

If you click into it, he basically says Emery didn’t know how to use him, the player is no more than a cog in a machine (our machine is bad), and he has issues like a lack of personality and the inability to impose himself on games.

Well, he has it all to prove at Arsenal. At least if it goes badly, we can send him back.

In other news, ESR has moved to Leipzig on loan. A bloody excellent move. Nketiah has gone to work with Jens at Augsburg in Germany. Ben Knapper working that new loans job well. GOOD LUCK CHAPS.

In footballing news, Arsenal moved back into 4th after Chelsea took a SPANKING at Bournemouth. Other good news stretched to Liverpool drawing.

For all the shrieks of ‘Emery can’t compete for top 4’, it appears that with a squad of supposedly shite players, we’re in 4th heading into February.

It’s all about coaching now. If Rafa Benitez can beat Pep, then there’s no reason we can’t. Apparently, we have the same points total as them since late August.

Just don’t play a high line… please, please, please don’t put us through that.

Right, that’s me done. I did a podcast for your ears. I’m alone.

This Dale character suggested that people criticize Iwobi here as they do because of racism. I told him this was nonsense. He then suggested that in denying I was racist, I was behaving like many other racists. I told him his “argument” — i.e., ‘it’s just like a racist to claim he’s not racist’ — was nonsense. He then — no joke — called me “dumb”.

No there was no subtlety missed, I simply called you on your conflicting ideas that Wenger both:

a) compiled shit squads
b) had a “better than 6th best” squad when achieving top 4

It amuses me how you are completely incapable of acknowledging anything positive he did for Arsenal, even when doing so to make a show you give backhanded compliments. Such a weird and narrow view to have of someone.

I agree. Remember a couple of years ago when Emery was manager of PSG and was 4-0 up against Barcelona in the first leg, and then lost 6-1 in the second leg. This was with top quality centre backs in Thiago Silva and Marquinhos, as well as Matuidi , Rabiot and Verratti sitting in midfield.

This tells me that even if Arsenal invested heavily in defence, it won’t make much of a difference unfortunately.

So basically the idea is since the squad left by Wenger is so bad, no amount of coaching by Emery will do. Bad defence = Wenger’s fault. Bad midfiled = Wenger’s fault. What he needs are new players who will correct the mistakes of Wenger’s mismanagement. And so we need to give Emery time, for Raul to bring in the players Emery needs and when that happens, and only until that happens, we can judge him.
