Suarez and Nkunku deadline day players to watch

by & filed under News Review.

Oh, man, too much excitement.

We’ve pretty much landed Denis Suarez. There was some worry, mostly fueled by me, that the deal was going to fail because Barca dropped the announcement of their homepage… however, there has been no noise about a failed medical.

Ornstein reckons Perisic and Carassco deals are very unlikely, but the Nkunku deal is 50/50.

So we have a wide left player who can give Emery more finesse with touch and a bit more energy moving the ball and potentially a utility midfielder who can play right back.

There is a horror thread from David Cartlidge on Suarez.

If you click into it, he basically says Emery didn’t know how to use him, the player is no more than a cog in a machine (our machine is bad), and he has issues like a lack of personality and the inability to impose himself on games.

Well, he has it all to prove at Arsenal. At least if it goes badly, we can send him back.

In other news, ESR has moved to Leipzig on loan. A bloody excellent move. Nketiah has gone to work with Jens at Augsburg in Germany. Ben Knapper working that new loans job well. GOOD LUCK CHAPS.

In footballing news, Arsenal moved back into 4th after Chelsea took a SPANKING at Bournemouth. Other good news stretched to Liverpool drawing.

For all the shrieks of ‘Emery can’t compete for top 4’, it appears that with a squad of supposedly shite players, we’re in 4th heading into February.

It’s all about coaching now. If Rafa Benitez can beat Pep, then there’s no reason we can’t. Apparently, we have the same points total as them since late August.

Just don’t play a high line… please, please, please don’t put us through that.

Right, that’s me done. I did a podcast for your ears. I’m alone.

Let me hit you with some knowledge

Lacazette was injured half the season
    Aubameyang played 10 games
    Mavrapanos played 2

They are new players brought in by the new regime. Wenger was already a goner.

  2. Un na naai

    Arsenal sitting in 4th

    Bam, marko, Freddy, receding, dinneter

What did I tell ya? I’ll accept apologies verbally or in hand written form

Nkunku was ready to go but apparently Tuchel blocked it.

I think it was a transfer equivalent of flipping the bird to Sven from Tuchel.

    Petty or what?

America was never great to begin with.

If you think greatness is landgrab by genocide then you have serious problems.

    God save the Queen.

We’ll fight Emery on the beaches.

Did you hear one about the two fish in a tank?

One turns to the other and says…

“So…. do you know how to drive this thing?!?”

    #JOKE FRIDAY

A child asked his father, “How were people born?” So his father said, “Adam and Eve made babies, then their babies became adults and made babies, and so on.” The child then went to his mother, asked her the same question and she told him, “We were monkeys then we evolved to become like we are now.” The child ran back to his father and said, “You lied to me!” His father replied, “No, your mom was talking about her side of the family.”

America was never great to begin with.If you think greatness is landgrab by genocide then you have serious problems.

You know that the Mongolians, arabs and Moore’s were making landgrabs long before Columbus discovered America

You know why there are no black slaves in the Middle East? They castrated them so they couldn’t breed. They’ve been taking Slaves since the 7th century.

If we are going to chastise one nation or continent then let’s be consistent what?

    Joke Friday –

A Mormon was seated next to an Irishman on a flight from London to the US.

After the plane was airborne, drink orders were taken. The Irishman asked for a whiskey, which was promptly brought and placed before him.

The flight attendant then asked the Mormon if he would like a drink. He replied in disgust, “I’d rather be savagely raped by a dozen whores than let liquor touch my lips.”

The Irishman then handed his drink back to the attendant and said, “Me, too, I didn’t know we had a choice.”

“”but we have an owner , someone who owns Arsenal Football Club . He has made those appointments .””

I think you will find that is inaccurate.

I was under the impression Gazidas/Raul/Dortmund Eye chose Emery. Nothing to do with Stan.

Two of those people have ALREADY left AFC.
    We are in a uniquely farcical situation here;

We have coach no one wanted – chosen by people who have left- but this doomed structure backed by a majority of lemming like Arsenal fans.

Its a structure that , will off course fail. To delay the process of dismantling this process -will just ultimately cause more Arsenal heartache and frustration.

I know fans rightly – want to be optimistic about their team. But Quite simply the Raul/Emery power grab is not sustainable.

  11. bennydevito

Although Columbus didn’t discover America – there were already Arab speaking native Americans there.

I’m not chastising America, I’m just countering your great again statement.

Lastly, anyone that thinks that Auba was brought in to replace Laca,I think is somewhat dreaming.

Even a blind man riding on a white horse in fog,who has watched Arsenal under Arsene over the years knows that the ‘Professor’ doesn’t buy a player for that amount of money and suddenly looks to replace him with another player in the same position three months later.

The fact of the matter is ,we sold Giroud and Theo.Looked to replace our attacking options.Laca came in,adjusting to the pace of the league. Was injured for a significant time period. Thus his development was somewhat hindered.Usually a player gets a year to acclimatise to a new league, new country, new team, etc. It used to be two years before.

Anyone with an iota of footballing knowledge could see what he was bringing to the table. It was just a matter of time,to see the fruits of his labour.
His hold up play, his willing to work, run, link and create for other team mates.I mean all this was self evident in the minutes he had on the pitch in his first season.

Yet you had the likes of ‘Bamford’ clamouring for him to be sold within a month of his signing. So much for being -‘A student of the game of thirty years.’

In short,it’s nonsensical to think,we were looking to replace Laca with Auba after three months.

I mean Arsene doggedly persisted with Sanogo for how many seasons(2013-2015/Loans till 2017)?
And played him(Sanogo) in a 2014 FA Cup Final against Hull City and threw him into the mixer in a CL campaign-against(Round 16) BM,where we were resoundingly beaten 3-1 ,when it was not appropiate to do so,or introduce a novice to such a highly pressurised environment.

Shake my head sometimes..But it’s just my opinion.

Then why didn’t the arabs colonise? They colonised everything else they touched. Still to this day the Middle East belongs to them and a third of Africa.

And I disagree. America was great for Americans. They aren’t trying to make it great for Calcutta are they?

Lacazette is our best player and our only match winner. Without him we are toothless going forward. He alters our dynamics and makes us dangerous. He may not be as prolific as aubameyang but without him we aren’t anywhere near 4th place

I didn’t say it was. Maybe you should read my posts rather than out words in my mouth.

What I’ve been saying is that this squad is capable of reaching the champions league slots this season. I’ve said it all along. Now that we are sitting in 4th I’m vindicated
If we are good enough to be 4th halfway through the season with an injury ravaged squad then we are certainly capable of finishing there in May with no domestic cup competitions and the Europea needing no more thansecond string til the quarters.

  18. Bob N16

Ultimately if Stan decided they weren’t fit for the job he’d have them fired. Not give them additional responsibilities . Raul was made Head of Football Operations (whatever that means) after Gazidis left. He appointed Vinai to head the commercial part. So he is backing Raul . I don’t see where the problem is . The only problem you have is lack of identity at the club , which as I said before is not the prerogative of the owner or Raul. They are merely trying to fix the mess of previous regime (Arsene Wenger & Ivan Gazidis) I can’t see why you hate Raul/Emery so much . The club has become much more proactive than the past where we simply were reactive. The club has been making assertive decisions as opposed to previous times just waited for shit to happen ( Luis Suarez bid anyone?)

It has nothing to with me liking or disliking them.I do not hate anyone.

I just know – they will be detrimental to Arsenal in the long term.
I do not rate them one iota
(they might be successful in tandem in Spain.)
I think they do not have a clue -what they are trying to do.And We have clear evidence of that,

I assume I got that wrong then. Well I never.

I mentioned the international comment because you posted before you’ve spent so many years working in Qatar and other countries. Wrongly I thought this was connected to sports coaching- my bad.

The gym statement was in response to disgusting personal trolling by the usual suspects a long time ago.

The many people I’ve met who have worked in the Middle East have done very well for themselves financially. They didn’t go for the sun, camels and culture.

Anyway happy my posts amuse you in one way or another.

No youngsters ? Emile Smith Rowe , Willock , Saka , Ainsley Maitland Niles , Nketiah.

No improvement ? Goddamn have you even watched Xhaka play , he plays under specific instructions . Iwobi has started to get more end product ( Assists & Goals)

Drab Football ? Thats more down to no creative players in our team. With Ozil choosing not to play within Emery’s style of play and Ramsey not fitting in and Mkhitaryan being average , He really has no options. Tony, all of us who come to Legrove choose to for whatever reason. Without getting too fanciful it’s an Arsenal-centric microcosm of life. What makes me come back is the chance to exchange views about Arsenal (and on occasion) other topical things, like the rugby. What I particularly like is the fact that this is a global site, reflecting our fan base. I imagine that in a corner of Thailand (or wherever) you can enjoy being where you are and still get your fix of Arsenal.

I’ll never forget travelling around South America in the first half of 1989 with my short wave radio, attempting to find out the Arsenal scores. I was in Quito when I tuned in to hear of Arsenal’s glory night at Anfield. I remember proudly wearing my Arsenal shirt the rest of that day, hoping to bump into a fellow Gooner. If the internet and Legrove had existed then I would have been ecstatic to share the joy with Gooners around the world on line. My Gooner mates in London travelled to Highbury and ended up in the fountains in Trafalgar Square with one chipping a tooth in the happy madness!

Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup isn’t a surprising one for NFL fans, but for MLS followers it’s the source of a comical amount of chagrin. After all, Super Bowl owners Stan Kroenke (of the Los Angeles Rams) and the Kraft family (of the New England Patriots) appear to care deeply about their NFL teams. They spend lots of money on them. Everything is first class.

Meanwhile, they’re among the least ambitious owners in MLS. Literally. In SI.com’s 2018 MLS Ambition Rankings, Kroenke’s Colorado Rapids were No. 21, two spots from the bottom. (Sample line: “It still isn’t 100 percent clear that Stan Kroenke remembers that he’s got an MLS team in his vast sporting portfolio.”) For its part, the Krafts’ New England Revolution was even lower, at No. 22 (“the Krafts have more than enough to finance a second juggernaut in Foxborough. They just choose not to.”)

Qatar (Asian Cup Winners-2019) scored 19 goals and conceded 1 goal in the Asia Competition. All this,in the face of overwhelming hostility and the economic blockades imposed by the UAE & the Saudi Government. In addition to Qatari fans facing a travel ban.

Great South America story really conjured up pictures.

Agreed Le Grove helps keep AFC real for me people wise, but we’re fortunate to get all the games live here throughout the country.

Saves having to bribe hotel managers to change channels about 18+years ago.

Best sporting memory I had was being in a small bar watching England WC final against Australia in Nong Kai (on the Mekong river) when a mini bus pulled up and out piled 14 pissed Australians minutes before kick off.

I was the only English guy in the bar.

The banter was full on from them until the drop goal in the dying seconds.

Boy was I in my element and fair play to them each one bought me a beer to celebrate before they left, which I distributed to 4 Scandinavians and some Thais and a couple of Jocks.

Great day etched in the memory for life.

  66. Valentin

Barcelona had already signed Todibo on a pre-contract bowman about two weeks ago. Toulouse have just negotiated a fee in exchange for Barcelona to bring him six months earlier.
I have said numerous time, there is more value and talent in France in team like Toulouse (their entire youth defense is now at Barcelona, WestHam, Fiorentina, Sevilla and playing regularly), LeHavre, Caen and Lens.
Also there is talent in English lower league, you just need to spend the time there looking for the hidden gem.
Raul’s big contact book is useless because most his contacts don’t know those markets.

  67. Freddie Ljungberg

Emery just said the club tried to bring in 3 players but could only manage 1, honesty is always a nice change.

It’s clear he’s not happy with his squad even if he says that but doing the best he can with limited material, hope it’s enough for CL, we desperately need that.

    Carts

Agree man, said it yesterday. Am perfectly happy keeping powder dry until summer for full assessment of Emery.

Bringing the likes of Perisic or Carrassco on heels of Suarez had me shaking my head. At least they got terms of loan right.

  82. Valentin

    @receding

How to I know that his contact books is useless for those markets? Because he said so himself in the interview he did a few months ago.

He said that he had contacts on the continent and in South America. He was then asked whether he intended to look for young gem or established players. He answered that Sven was hired to detect young potentials. That clearly means that his contact Pini Zahivi and others agents of that ilk are not that bothered with youngsters until they become marketable like MBappe and Dembele.

There is Nothing wrong with the approach of going for star and well established players per se. I just think that this is the wrong approach for a skint Arsenal.

  83. Valentin

    @Azed,

You do realise that the lower league scout department was disbanded last year. Since Grimandi left, we have not yet named an official French market head scout.
I would surmise that setting a proper scouting department is Raul’s job. Especially if the one who was supposed to head it was sidelined and is now leaving.

  84. Bamford10

So we signed Aubameyang as a 60m back-up? No.

We signed a 60m CF in order to deploy him wide? No.

We signed him because Lacazette has been thoroughly underwhelming up to that point. Prior to that January window, for example, he had gone eight games without a goal and had only recorded seven shots in that time.

Lacazette also went straight to the bench upon Auba’s arrival.

So, sorry, but you’re wrong. .

  90. Ivan

Valentin – right approach is to have both.

I doubt that Mislintat exit had anything to do with his recommendations. Its smells of atempt of advacment by Sven when his stock is high and failure of that same atempt.

For once we play hard ball while negotiating.
What we did to Inter this winter tv is something we recived more often than not.

Use Perisic to ease on loan conditions for Suarez.
Inter hiked price for 30yr old winger couse they thought we were cornered. They ended up with unsettled player with diminishing resale value, We ended up with Suarez who joined on affordable terms.

This approach will be even more benificial with more expensive players.

  91. azed

    @Valentin

Isn’t Sven head of recruitment until next week?

Raul took over the club like 4 months ago and when he took over, we still had a head of recruitment.

We also know the club is trying to hire a D 0f F under whom the scouts would report to right?

  92. azed

A lot of changes are happening behind the scenes at the club and it would be foolish to think Raul and Visham(sp?) are done with the restructuring or that the restructuring would be done in 6 months.

    ———-
Yeah, wrong in your opinion.Because you are always right-right?

Firstly, who said Auba was signed as a back up to Laca?
That’s your point of view/contention not mine..

Secondly,we had sold Giroud and Theo?
What were our other attacking options?

Thirdly,Laca’s talents were there to see.It was self evident. He got injured, struggled for form, had to acclimatise to the pace of the league, teammates, club, culture. That’s why usually a player gets a season nowadays to show his worth.Used to be two seasons.

Fourthly,to suggest Auba was brought in as a replacement for Laca is nonsensical in my humble opinion. Why,you ask?

When has Arsene ever brought in a player for that amount of money and ditched him within three months of hiring him?
This is a guy, that you have gone on record as saying-to paraphrase you-“He is one stubborn man that refuses to change,or adapt in order to prove a point”..Again paraphrasing you..

So tell me,he persisted with Alumnia for how many years despite being a dire keeper?
Arsene persisted with Denilson-for how many years, not signing Alonso, because it would kill Denilson’s career?
Arsene persisted with Senderos, for how many years despite him not being the capable defender or weak link in our defense. And stubbornly played him against Chelsea, where he used to perform the ritual drop the pants and excrete in his tighties when paired up against Drogba?

Santos another one,he persisted with for however long, before he was sold.
And the famous Sanogo, who he thought was his ‘Henry’.How long did he persist with him for, before he was eventually sold?

Yeah,Laca a far better and more accompoished player than the examples I gave above, was going to be sold off within three months of his arrival. With no real other attacking options in place.Unless you felt Wellbeck(injury prone) was our answer?

Yeah, excuse me for my line of thinking given the above.I guess my argument is flawed, redundant and nonsensical because you being the ‘Student of the game of 30 years’ knows best.Took you 20 years to decide which club to support.Says it all really.

The same guy (Banford)that was clamouring for him(Laca) to be sold, within a few months of his arrival. Now,is praising him to the high heavens.

Yeah,I’m wrong and you are right.I should defer to your superior knowledge oh enligtened one.

Pardon,my freedom of expression.I’m wrong and you are right as ever the case.

    Have a good day.

If Emery continues to stink the gaff out with his dreary tactics, which in turn mean we finish comfortably outside the top 4, then I think there’s a good argument to letting him go in the summer

A years compensation should come in way below what we paid Wenger and his old boys.
