Suarez and Nkunku deadline day players to watch

by & filed under News Review.

Oh, man, too much excitement.

We’ve pretty much landed Denis Suarez. There was some worry, mostly fueled by me, that the deal was going to fail because Barca dropped the announcement of their homepage… however, there has been no noise about a failed medical.

Ornstein reckons Perisic and Carassco deals are very unlikely, but the Nkunku deal is 50/50.

So we have a wide left player who can give Emery more finesse with touch and a bit more energy moving the ball and potentially a utility midfielder who can play right back.

There is a horror thread from David Cartlidge on Suarez.

If you click into it, he basically says Emery didn’t know how to use him, the player is no more than a cog in a machine (our machine is bad), and he has issues like a lack of personality and the inability to impose himself on games.

Well, he has it all to prove at Arsenal. At least if it goes badly, we can send him back.

In other news, ESR has moved to Leipzig on loan. A bloody excellent move. Nketiah has gone to work with Jens at Augsburg in Germany. Ben Knapper working that new loans job well. GOOD LUCK CHAPS.

In footballing news, Arsenal moved back into 4th after Chelsea took a SPANKING at Bournemouth. Other good news stretched to Liverpool drawing.

For all the shrieks of ‘Emery can’t compete for top 4’, it appears that with a squad of supposedly shite players, we’re in 4th heading into February.

It’s all about coaching now. If Rafa Benitez can beat Pep, then there’s no reason we can’t. Apparently, we have the same points total as them since late August.

Just don’t play a high line… please, please, please don’t put us through that.

Right, that’s me done. I did a podcast for your ears. I’m alone.

“For all the shrieks of ‘Emery can’t compete for top 4’, it appears that with a squad of supposedly shite players, we’re in 4th heading into February.”

Er………..did YOU really just write that Pedro?

  2. Marko

There is a horror thread from David Cartlidge on Suarez.

Yep. He finishes by saying it’s low risk. In the words of Colonel Kurtz the horror…the horror…the horror

  3. Marko

For all the shrieks of ‘Emery can’t compete for top 4’, it appears that with a squad of supposedly shite players, we’re in 4th heading into February.

How about the shrieks of he’s doing a bad job and there’s zero improvement. I would suggest overachieving with a poor squad is an improvement on under achieving with a poor squad

  4. Cesc Appeal

    Claver

Almost as if Emery is doing an acceptable job with a 6th placed team.

Pedro might inadvertently have been saying that.

  5. Dark Hei

    Tony

Ozil is just a bad fit for Emery-ball.

And if case you are wondering, yes Sanchez would have tanked for Emery as well

Anyone who can’t take very specific instructions to play in a certain way won’t work for what Emery has in mind.

Take Ramsey. Hardworking, lots of stamina and willing to bust a gut. But can’t do things exactly the way Emery likes it. Contract offer rescinded because he is downgraded from essential to merely useful.

That does not mean they are bad players in any shape or form.

  6. Freddie Ljungberg

We’re in 4th place because Emery has done a decent job with a shite squad, and because Mourinho tanked Man U and Sarri doesn’t know what he’s doing at Chelsea, not because we have better players than them.

  7. Marko

Thinly veiled compliment? He’ll be back to outright condemnation once City beat us on Sunday. Might sit atop the fence again if we beat United

  8. Pierre

Good to see some intelligent well balanced posters on here now who have a good insight into the game instead of the usual lot who continually criticise our most talented players.

I’m talking about Valentin, taking the Mhik plus I’ve always liked TR7 who are not on here just to make snide remarks about our players .

Charlie George and UN may have extreme views but you can tell they have the club at heart ..Dark Hei is another well balanced poster .

Shame about many of the others who don’t understand what it means to support the club and feel that Arsenal are entitled to be at the top.

  9. Marko

Ramsey’s contract was also rescinded because we could get more for less from another player. The days of huge wages for little output are over I’m afraid. Expect the culling to continue in the summer. Mhiki, Ozil and Mustafi next

  10. Receding Hairline

“If you click into it, he basically says Emery didn’t know how to use him, ”

Suarez rejected an outright transfer to Sevilla and Real Betis to join a manager in a tough league who did not know how to use him is the gist.

  11. Charlie George

Not often – I disagree with PedRo’s post – but I vehemently oppose his thinking- that for Eddie and Emile the Bundesliga clubs are the ‘best places to learn ‘

    How do you know this?
You are just assuming that the German clubs are more successful than their British counterparts-with regards to nurturing young talent.

I echo Valentins thoughts – everything Emery /Raul do is so haphazard and devoid of any long term plan.

If they genuinely thought – these two players needed loaning out. WHY were they not loaned out on the 1st Jan not 31 st Jan?

And for those to support Emery.

If you think he is such a good coach : why has there not been 1 improvement on any established Arsenal player and Why would Emery himself not want to work with Emile and Eddie every day in training to cultivate them in his ways…. for the future.

To favour the slow Barca reject (suarez) signing over the very exciting and brisk Rowe Smith is why he is clearly unsuitable to be the coach of Arsenal FC

Rowe Smith should be at Arsenal and on the bench- pushing for first team action.

He is a natural left footer- hugs the touchline- and gives natural width and is rapid.
Suarez is a plodder and so so similar to what what we already have.

In a microcosm – this is the Emeryism style of football coaching.
And it’s unambitious and its dull.

  12. HighburyLegend

WTF is going on at Chelsea ?? lol

Too bad we are so inconstant, the 4th place could be ours…
And the fact Emery don’t want any defender is complete nonsense.

  13. Freddie Ljungberg

Shame about many of the others who don’t understand what it means to support the club and feel that Arsenal are entitled to be at the top.

Who are the ones whining their little hearts out every day 6 months into a transition after 10 years of decline and who are the ones calling for patience and saying it’s going to take time? Great trolling again Pierre, not transparent at all…

  14. HighburyLegend

@CG : Arsène is still unemployed (despite some offers from the greatest clubs on earth lol), why don’t call him back ?

  15. WengerEagle

Yeah adds up re Suarez, have had reservations on the deal but I suppose considering that it’s only a loan we can feel him out until the end of the season before we commit a gaffe and our stuck with more deadwood in the squad.

Not enthused on Nkunku really, looks pretty ordinary and PSG are happy to part with him despite having fuck all midfielders.

Out of everyone that we’re being seriously linked to Carrasco is the only one that I would find remotely exciting I have to admit. Which is a shame as it looks unlikely.

  16. Freddie Ljungberg

    CG

First off, ESR isn’t a winger. Second of all young players go out on loan to get playing time in a competitive environment, not because the loan club has better coaches you numpty.

  17. WengerEagle

In some good news at least Chelsea are a bigger mess than we are at the moment.

Who would have thought 6 odd weeks ago that United would be the main top 4 threat and not Chelsea?

Basically even on the talent side of things although a motivated Hazard may edge Chelsea in that department but only one of them is playing for their gaffer, Sarri has been shown to be clueless and has lost the dressing room.

Always felt that Sarri was weirdly overrated, like Tuchel came 2nd with the clear 2nd best team in the country and the vast majority of savvy Napoli purchases were made by Rafa Benitez who built that side, not Sarri.

  18. Charlie George

“First off, ESR isn’t a winger:

An innovative coach would convert him into a bloody good one.,though

We need one . And he should be our winger now.

No logic to buy Suarez when you have ESR
    None. None whatsover!

  19. gambon

“Rowe Smith should be at Arsenal and on the bench- pushing for first team action. He is a natural left footer- hugs the touchline- and gives natural width and is rapid.”

    Fucking hell CG

    Firstly his name is Smith-Rowe

    Secondly hes right footed

Thirdy hes not in any way a wide player.

    Do you even watch Arsenal?

  20. Marko

Wenger as director of football. Lad pissed away 100’s of millions on players threw wages at shit and was awful at signings. Fucking genius that. Why not let that fox look after our chickens while we’re at it

  21. Graham62

Smith-Rowe will benefit from playing in Germany.

    Good luck to the lad.

He’ll come back a better player, as will Reiss Nelson.

  22. Marko

Firstly his name is Smith-RoweSecondly hes right footedThirdy hes not in any way a wide player.

No no he’s left footed and it’s pronounced Rowe Smith.

  23. HighburyLegend

“I would have him back – as DoF”

Amazing… Charlie George seems to be stupid enough to believe that a man only attracted by the POWER would allow someone else to coach the team.

    Well done, sir!! lol

  24. WengerEagle

Jorginho has been dreadful for Chelsea, 50 million for a CM that can do little besides picking out accurate distance passes, of which David Luiz a CB can arguably do as well.

Slow, lightweight/delicate, can’t dribble, can’t shoot, doesn’t score or assist goals, weak defensively and in the tackle, non-factor in aerial duels.

Worst of all though is how they have shunted Kante out onto RCM to accommodate him, one of the very top CM’s in the league.

  25. gambon

    WE

I remember some on here calling for Sarri in the summer.

I was dead against that. Absolute hipster loser of a manager.

  26. Emiratesstroller

Just looked at the latest Accounts of Arsenal Holdings Limited for the year ending 31st May 2018.

    1. Wage Bill has risen to £210 million!!! No doubt includes massive compensation package to Wenger.

    2. Something strange about the incoming and outgoing transfers, because we
made allegedly a substantial loss in our dealings. According to Transfermarkt
we made sales larger than acquisitions. Yet Arsenal claim there is a deficit of
    around £60 million!!!

    3. Our bank balance has grown to a massive £231,344,000. So much for the
    impoverishment of Arsenal!!!

You have to ask what is going on that we are so short of money for transfer deals.

I am beginning to wonder whether despite denials in past Kroenke is holding
onto money to cover the short term loan he secured to buy shares from Usmanov.

Maybe the German Bank who made loan have insisted that the money is not
    spent.

  27. Charlie George

I accept-he is not a natural left footer. He is even better than i thought- he is a natural 2 footer.

He will undoubtedly play on the left side any team. Its his running style
i stand by this point though:

    Suaraz in
Rowe Smith out is a chronic judgement call

This Boy is so good- he play tricks with ones eyes!

  28. Marko

WE seems to be injured now. Completed 70+minutes on 15th of December and then the next couple games got 20 mins here and there. 7 goals in 800 odd minutes for Hoffenheim. Lad is still learning. Not ready yet for Hoffenheim or us

  29. Marko

I can see Reiss going out on loan again next season. I don’t think he’s a viable option for us yet. Still very much up in the air and a season barely playing with us could ruin him

  30. gambon

    Charlie

The wage bill was £240m, of which £17m was for Wengers pay off, so £223m.

However we signed Auba, Mykhitaryan and Ozils new deal in January, so they would only have counted for 5 months.

So the true run rate is probably more like £225-230m.

I dont think the wage bill wouldve gone up much this summer, as the folowing players left:

    Wilshere
    Cazorla
    Mertesacker
    Ospina

  31. Charlie George

“I can see Reiss going out on loan again next season. I don’t think he’s a viable option for us yet. ”

No But the likes of Elneny/lich/iwobi /jenks/are?

    (Bizarre and twisted thinking marko)

  32. bennydevito

    Charlie George,

I’m getting really perplexed by you. How many times do you need to be told we’re not buying Suarez, we’re LOANING him ffs!

    We’re loaning him.

    We’re loaning him.

    We’re loaning him.

Charlie George, the epitome of “should have gone to specsavers”.

  33. Marko

If we want to improve you don’t improve by replacing Iwobi and Ozil with Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe. Not yet certainly

  34. gambon

I think Nelson may have another loan.

I said at the start of the season I could see Nagelsman taking him with him at the end of the season.

He hasnt played as much as he would like, and at 19 he may still be a bit young to play regularly.

Nelson, Smith-Rowe, Saka, Amaechi, NKetiah are all too good for youth football, but need that bit of experience.

  35. Takin the Mhik

    Marko

” we want to improve you don’t improve by replacing Iwobi and Ozil with Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe. Not yet certainly”

Smith Rowe has a bit of class about him. I’d like to see him come in for iwobi next season. Nelson has gone a bit cold in Germany, but the ability is definitely there.

  36. Charlie George

    bd

What on earth is the point of LOANING IN Suarez who has never even scored a goal or even played for us -and at the same time LOANING OUT ESR who has (europa cup etc).

My point is : its totally nonsensical. An perfect illustration here -Why Emery is not fit to be the Arsenal Coach.

  37. Marko

Mhik it’s because of their potential and ability that they need to go on loan. They need games and need to improve and they won’t get that making 5 senior appearences and playing for the reserves here. Another year in Germany or a season playing consistent football in Holland will do them better

  38. Marko

For all the reservations about Denis Suarez he is undoubtedly better than Smith Rowe. You would be an idiot to think otherwise

  39. Charlie George

Emile/Eddie/Reiss should be at The Arsenal on the fringes of the first team -getting game time against the likes of Cardiff city at home.
if Elneny /lich can get games- these lads can.

They all could have played 6 europa matches too.

    post wenger

i thought we were employing a coach that was going to make our players better- not allow them to be coached elsewhere?

Emery- in his tenure here- has not improved 1 established Arsenal player.
he has destabilised Ozil and Rambo though
and he has serious questions to ask about Holding/Hector’s injury too

  40. Jim Lahey

“What on earth is the point of LOANING IN Suarez who has never even scored a goal or even played for us”

What was the point in bringing in Aubameyang?! I mean, the guy never played for us, or scored a goal for us before we bought him either, right?!

  41. Takin the Mhik

    Marko.

First half of the season, the young players usually get games. Once the league cup is done and we get further into the Europa League, they are back in the reserves.

In my opinion, Smith-Rowe, Nketiah and Willock could all do with a loan

  42. Pierre

    Taking the mhik
“Smith Rowe has a bit of class about him. I’d like to see him come in for iwobi next season. Nelson has gone a bit cold in Germany, but the ability is definitely there.”

Smith rowe picked up that injury at just the wrong time otherwise he may have got some game time recently and things may have turned out different for him this season .
I think Emery will be reluctant to use the kids coming through as he feels it’s too much of a risk ..Personally I would have liked to have seen them get some game time .
Saka looks a player to me , very calm clever player who has the ability and confidence to beat a player.

  43. Receding Hairline

“We had assumed that we learned a certain style of football, but the truth is we never did learn it and are paying the consequences. […] We haven’t even learned the most basic moves yet. We need to work on the basics, the primary foundations of my football, and only then will we try to change a few things.”

    -Sarri

But i thought i read on this pages it took him just three months to instill the style of football he wanted at Chelsea, and how Emery should learn from him, what changed??

  44. Left testicle

Suddeutsche Zeitung report that despite struggling to make an impact at the Emirates this season under new manager Unai Emery, Ozil is keen to remain in London.

Of course he is the lazy, unambitious git!

  45. Dream10

    Wenger Eagle

Yeah you’re spot on regarding Jorginho.
They have Kanté and Kovacic who can play as a #6. What they need is more end product on the pitch. Get Hazard, Pedro and Wllian/Hudson-Odoi on behind Giroud and drop Jorginho. Sarri is an inflexible manager though.

Big Bird just said “I could do fudging better”.

  49. gambon

Saka is 17 years old and has 90 mns first team experience, thats the problem.

Theres a big difference between a 17 year old and a 21 year old thats played 50 games or so.

  50. Pierre

What the results of the top 6 have shown over the previous few weeks is that nothing should be taken for granted.

There a some very capable sides lower down the prem that can take points off any team..
It’s the quality of the strikers in the top 6 that set them apart from the others .
In many Arsenal games this season the opposition have had as good or better chances than our strikers but have failed to convert, that is why it is imperative that we keep Lacazette and Aubamayang at the club , they are our get out of jail free card and will always give us a chance in games .

Why anyone would criticise Aubamayang or Lacazette is beyond me.

  51. Dream10

Smith Rowe has a chance to be a quality player. Decent combination play and the ability to score goals from midfield as a teenager. Shades of a young Ramsey.

Sensible loans for both Smith Rowe and Nketiah. Hope Eddie plays often and regularly gets himself into goalscoring positions. If he does well, he has a chance to be a third scoring option for us off the bench & in the cups.

  52. Graham62

    CG

    Unbelievable!

You don’t get it do you?

    No really…..you don’t!

Wenger stepping through the door in any role/capacity, would send us back to the dark ages.

What the fudge are you on?!!?

  53. Charlie George

    graham

“”Wenger stepping through the door in any role/capacity, would send us back to the dark ages.””

thats your opinion. And i respect it.
it many ways – i dont think its the best idea too,

but if you are telling me Raul is a better recruiter of players than Wenger- i would argue all day long in defence of Wenger.

    We all wanted Wenger gone.
(But unlike many others I respect his achievements massively and appreciatively)
i just know – we can do so much better than the 2 people currently running the show
Wenger therefore is a better fit as DOF than Raul

ill ask again: how many players has raul ever made a profit on?
    and compare to Wengers ?

  54. Sanmi

Dennis Suarez skill level is amazing I’m surprised folks here are not excited. For me he’s a winger, he’s too explosive to be an AM. He picks his passes very well though but always run with the ball beating players for fun.
Auba will hit 30 with him supplying. Iwobi will be shifted to right wing.
    Ozil will never play again

  55. Marko

we can do so much better than the 2 people currently running the show
Wenger therefore is a better fit as DOF

Makes perfect sense really. You’re thick as fuck and you keep on going

  56. Sanmi

Xhaka is a better baller than jorginho. Xhaka still initiates attacks , jorginho just go side ways. Xhaka still throws in challenges, jorginho has no clue

  57. Paulinho

Marko – So you’ve chilled out a bit on Nelson now?

When I said he was nowhere near ready at the start of the season you had a fit.

  58. Guns of Hackney

The Suarez signing is identical to the terrible Perez signing those years ago. Identical…and it will end in the same way. But, if we blow a few mill on wages…meh.

Nothing to write home about and nothing to shout about. This is an Arsenal signing. 3/10.

Excuse me…I have some paint to watch dry.

  59. Redtruth

Guendouzi is a 19 year old purchsse from the lower French leagues and keeping out these so called talented English pricks from the team..
The English youth at Arsenal are shit.

  60. Paulinho

“To think Jorginho was earmarked as the long term successor to Fernandinho at City. What a disaster they avoided”

Guardiola has gotten away with so much.

Made it obvious he wasn’t bothered about Aguero. They could’ve easily sold him and had the average Jesus as their main man.

Wanted to buy Sanchez, who would not have improved them.

Signed Mahrez, who has done jack shit and again doesn’t improve the collective of any side because he’s so poor until the final third.

    Jorginho as you mentioned.

  61. Un na naai

I’m alone.

    Pedro

100% with you there. High line has to go and yes, we always were capable of top four with this squad in this iteration of the premier league. Even with a manger who’s only spent £70m and who ostracized his 3 best players and a seriously injured backlin/wide playing department.

There’s points up for grabs. We’ve taken them from Liverpool, we can take them from anyone, even city, if he gets his tactics and election right. No more high line. If we have marauding full backs then Two sitting midfielders is a must at ALL times against any opposition. We just don’t have the personnel or the coaching startegy to fortify our goal any other way.

  62. Marko

Paulinho definitely not me. The lad barely played for us and barely made an impression. I know he’s not ready. Neither is any of our youngsters if you ask me. I think I might have argued with someone about this notion that he’s not improving at Hoffenheim because he’s not dribbling past players or something like that

  63. Paulinho

Marko – Well he’s not improving is he, and dribbling was a massive part of his game in the youth set up so if he’s incapable of doing it at senior level then it’s a problem.

  64. Mcdon

“Getting Wenger back as DoF is utter stupidity.”Anelka/pires/henry/Nasri/ramsey/walcott/ox/carzola/vieria/adebayor/toure/campbell/lehmann/carzola/ces/bellerin/RVP/koscielny/giroud/sanchez/ozil/petit….
    Why stop there, why not add Silvester, sanogo,chamak,amuari bischoff,denilson,Jeffers,squillaci,Andre santos,park chu-young,Wellington, asano,kallstrom,aluminia.

  65. Marko

Paulinho he’s definitely improved though I can’t guarantee he’s still improving no. The whole dribbling argument was a bit pointless because I doubt either of us have extensively watched his 800+ minutes at Hoffenheim and the amount of time that he dribbled. Definitely improved though. Went from reserve football to playing in the Champions league and scoring in the bundesliga

  66. Emiratesstroller

Arsenal’s turnover was £403,269,000 which is actually higher than the figures
published recently by Deloittes in their league tables of club wealth. The actual
drop in revenue by not playing in Champions League was set off by other income. Turnover fell by just £18 million.

The club’s debt has now fallen to below £200 million, but significantly debt repayment for last year is just £9,471,000. So our debt servicing is just 2% of
    current revenues.

The loss of £47,186,000 million is clearly based on a deficit in transfer market.
This is a puzzle, because we seem to have spent much more on incoming transfers than was previously calculated by Transfermarkt. I can only assume
that we paid a huge amount on Agents Fees.

Overall looking at the figures Arsenal’s financial affairs are significantly healthier than have been portrayed in media and press.

My guess is that the restrictions on transfer spending in January have been
initiated by Kroenke and/or the bank who have lent him money to buy shares
    from Usmanov.

However we know that commercial revenues should rise significantly next year so I see no reason why we cannot spend £110 Million net in next transfer
    window.

The club has clearly got money to spend if they wanted to do so unless there
    are bank restrictions.

  67. Un na naai

Squad is shite Don. If it makes top 4 it wasn’t because it was a given it’ll be overachieving and thanks to the manager. I’m not a postman we can put it to bed. I’m a world renown sex machine

    Marko.

Is it capable of top four? Yes or no? Last week you said no. You laughed at the suggestion
I say yes. Who’s laughing now?
What have we proved here this week?
That we can can finish in the champions league spots.

What else have we proved this season?
That we can beat Liverpool Chelsea spurs and Manchester United.

There is no excuse now for emery to fail this season. He’s added 6 new players with maybe one more to come this season. Certainly enough to make it his team rather than wenger’s. ( I wouldn’t count aubameyang and Mkhitaryan as wenger players either which makes 9)

No excuses now boy. You’ve backed your horse. He’s proved he can get us into the top 4. If we don’t, he’s as culpable as anyone else if not more so. The buck stops with Unaaaaai

  68. Marko

    My guess is

Should have stopped there. If you’re guessing Stan is withholding transfer funds it’s because you want to guess that. It’s clear we had a set budget for the season and that was that. After so many years wasting money it’s understandable

  69. gambon

    Theres no witholding of money.

Our budget for the season was £65m net, we’ve spent that.

Our financial year ends 31st May, so as of 1st June, we will have a new budget.

No, you don’t. You THINK. You don’t know, none of us know, because they haven’t been in the job long enough to come to a conclusion. Sanllehi just coming up to a year, and Emery 8 months. If we were Liverpool or City, I assume by the same standard you would also have been calling for Klopp and Pep’s heads, respectively, at the same stage in their reign??

    GET A GRIP

In a year or two, we might all be on the same page as you. Or you might have been proved very very wrong and eaten your words. But that year or two is VITAL, and would be equally vital to any other manager/DoF who might come in in the future.

  71. strangeworld

All Kroenke wants is to keep the Club in the PL. He will not spend any significant amount of money to buy players to get to CL or win silverware. That is the simple truth.

  72. gambon

    strangeworld

Kroenke spent £17m sacking Wenger. We have the second highest paid player in the PL. We have bought 2 x £50m strikers since we fell out of the CL.

You dont think getting in the CL is important to him?

  73. Pierre

Whatever the figures say, I find it a little strange that for a club of Arsenal’s size that we are pleading poverty at the moment considering for the last 2 seasons our net spend is 45 million which equates to 22.5 million a year.

  74. Un na naai

You dont think getting in the CL is important to him?

    Gambon

I think that’s where his aspirations end as far as arsenal’s Sporting endeavors are concerned

  75. Un na naai

Should have stopped there. If you’re guessing Stan is withholding transfer funds it’s because you want to guess that. It’s clear we had a set budget for the season and that was that. After so many years wasting money it’s understandable

    Erm

You mean making Stan profit most seasons bar 2-3 anomalous transfer windows in about 16

  76. Emiratesstroller

    Gambon

You are correct that we have clearly spent our transfer budget in June. However, I do think that Arsenal do have money to spend if they want to go an extra mile and buy a “special player”.

Our net spend transfer budget is covered by our commercial sponsorship so it
should be £110 million next summer. Hopefully there will be some sales as well.

My real concern is that the club keeps on growing its bank balance. No other
EPL club operates in this way.

  77. Dissenter

Yannick,Carrasco is back on.it seems. There’s talk that he’s already passed a medical in China already and has agreed to a pay cut.

  78. Un na naai

    Pedro

Hang on there. I’ve been getting stick for suggesting this squad is capable of top four. I’m not being vindictive or even name calling. I’m simply laughing at the speed of the turnaround in our fortunes thus proving me correct. And thoroughly relishing it

  79. Un na naai

    Dissenter
    I’m glad
    I like Carrasco
Think he can make a difference
Silky player. Great little bag of tricks. Right up my steet

  80. Charlie George

    PedRo normally knows.

his blogs are always a must read:

today -however- he is very much misplaced in his assumption that 3 of our brightest young talents developments are best served in the Bundesliga.

the Bundesliga has awful lot going for itself ( tickets prices, etc)- But the pace of the game is a lot slower than here.

If Emery/Raul had a genuine strategy – these players would have been loaned out on the 1st Jan- not the 31st!

Truth is – there is no strategy/long term planning or any aim to coach/nurture and mentor our young players- they prefer to outsource- they prefer to buy their own.

this as Guns Of hackney states -is a Perez type signing (another La liga cast off- Mustafi/paulista anyone) and doomed to inevitable failure.

If Suarez cant cut it there- he wont cut it here.

ESR is a better better for this season!

  81. Pierre

I’m still going with the theory that it’s a possibility that the club is being sensible about spending any more money with Emery in charge as they have reservations about him being the right Man for the job.

I’m sure they are looking at crowd attendances, the style of football we are playing, his treatment of Ozil and possibly Ramsey , the failure to address our defensive failings, so the club are correct in not spending money knowing that the manager will be out the door within a few months ….sensible thinking.

Makes sense doesn’t it , if Emery shows that he has the credentials to move the club forward then the club will back him financially….If not , then they have dodged a bullet.

I am both, just read the Arsenal May 2018 full accounts as available on Companies House in the link below. They certainly don’t give the impression that we are short on funds. The strangest thing I took from the accounts is the £120m profit we made on selling playing registrations which doesn’t seem to align with my perception that we are not good at moving on players. Maybe that perception comes from letting Ramsey / Welbeck leave on frees in the summer when we could have got £60m for the pair in the summer.

  83. Bamford10

    Un Na

No, you get stick because (among other things) you claim that if we don’t finish fourth, it’s on Emery. This is nonsense. That we are capable of finishing fourth doesn’t mean we’re well-positioned to finish fourth. We’re not, as at least five teams have better squads than we do.

Anything above sixth place will be over-achieving.

  84. Bamford10

Germany is an excellent place for young players to develop; the PL is not. Our recent loan out moves are smart.

  85. Charlie George

“Anything above sixth place will be over-achieving.”

Wenger over achieved for 20 years- you cant stand him Bamford!

  86. Bamford10

Everything I’m reading says Carrasco is off. A shame because we really need two dribbling wide players. 1 + 1 = 3 in cases like this. Hopefully we get someone.

  87. HighburyLegend

“Wenger over achieved for 20 years- you cant stand him Bamford!”

Seriously Charlie, fuck off on Untold.

  88. Bamford10

    CG

No, he didn’t overachieve at all. One, he built squads that were inadequate despite his having ample resources to build excellent squads. Two, because he had decent squads at times that could have contended for the title if he had given them proper organization, defensive solidity and tactics. He didn’t. He was too busy trying to prove he could succeed with his old world ways. He failed, badly.

  89. Charlie George

    HL
no manager has won the FA Cups more than Wenger
no manger has gone the whole season unbeaten

No one will probably break these nearly impossible achievements

And u have the moniker Legend in your title!!??

  90. Charlie George

“””No, he didn’t overachieve at all””

    ok- Bamford.

Your measuring stick is a tough ask for the new regime then…

  91. Dr Emil schaffhausen

Not impressed by this Suarez deal but it brings back memories of the excellent luis Suarez , awesome player and that infamous £1 fiasco.
Purely hypothetical but I wonder how are current regime would have handled that transfer, I think they would have got it done , just something to get your teeth into !

  92. Bamford10

    Emirates

We are not pleading poverty, and Kroenke isn’t withholding anything.

Re the latter, see TR7’s post from two days ago, which established that while cash might have been 200m+ in June, it’s likely more around 100m now.

Re the former, we’re simply saying loans are the best thing for us — given our wage bill, given our accumulated dross — in the January window. It’s a way of avoiding costly, long term mistakes.

  93. Pierre

Actually, when you think about it , what Charlie George is saying is quite true going by the reasoning of Bamford, dissenter, Marko, Cesc Appeal etc who think achieving top 4 for Emery is actually over achieving.

It’s a well known fact that over the period of Wenger’s management the net spend at Arsenal over the 20 years he was at the club was below city spurs ,chelsea, Liverpool and United.

So yes ,without a doubt ,Wenger over achieved …..you are right Charlie.

  94. Bamford10

    CG

Are you fucking thick? Wenger wasn’t working with the sixth best squad in the league. Yes, he left us with such a squad, but for most of his last ten years, he had something much better than that. Further, our metric for the new regime this season — given the poverty of the squad — will obviously change next season and the following and the following, given that the squad should improve. If it doesn’t, we will have issues with the new regime.

  95. Charlie George

“”What about Denis Suarez being a loan deal are people finding hard to digest??””

because ESR had to facilitate it!

Emery would rather have an ex player- rather than coach ESR into a better player.

What is the point of appointing any coach- if he is just going to bring his old players and not coach the ones at his disposal?

(to be fair to Emery – he is not the first or the last coach to do this)
but its smacks of short-termism! (And devoid of imagination)

  96. Bamford10

    Pierre

Except that he could have spent more (on transfers) than he did, so no. He chose not to spend when he should have; that is entirely on him.

  97. Bamford10

    CG

You are so fucking clueless; it is painful to read your posts. Whatever ESR is at the moment, 25 year old Denis Suarez is further along and more the dribbling wide player we need at moment. ESR needs time and space to develop, something Germany is far better than England for.

  98. TheBoyCornelius

By some accounts the loan for Smith-Rowe was always on the cards, it was going to be from the start of the season but Emery wanted to keep him for the cup games and bed him into his way of training and tactical ideas. Now Emery has gone for a player he feels can give us something more (Suarez) as he has more experience.
A loan move seems a safe bet to see if it works out. If not he goes back to Spain and we get Smith-Rowe back, hopefully having played a dozen games or so – more that he would have been afforded here, as we need 4th spot at least.

  99. Redtruth

Arsenal massively underachieved under Wenger, before Wenger Arsenal shared 10 league titles with Utd, after Wenger’s departure, Arsenal.fell a huge 7 league titles behind Utd.

  100. Bergkamp63

Just hoping Suarez has a little more end product than Alex Hleb did. Although right know even he would look like Messi compared to Ozil !

  101. Bamford10

No, Charlie, my argument is clearly correct. That’s obvious. I swear, though, because dealing with idiots (and bad arguments) is enormously frustrating.

  102. Chris

Radical idea I know but, maybe just wait and see how Suarez does before we lynch him?

If he doesn’t work out he goes back to Barcelona.

  103. TheBoyCornelius

Also from his own statements Suarez has really pushed to join The Arsenal, so lets hope his desire to get his career on track (its been stop go for a few seasons now) sees him step up and be counted
