Arsenal aggressively briefing against Mesut Ozil

by .

Well hello everyone! I’m back in the UK hood and what do we have on the agenda today? Bloody Mesut Ozil, AGAIN.

This time there are two conflicting stories. One is from John Cross who reckons the club are sick to the back teeth of the German superstar and want him gone if they can find an offer. The second is from Sami Mokbel who reckons he’ll be given a chance to work his way back into the team this Christmas, but he’s really in the last chance saloon (The Times also has a story). There are rumours of a loan move out in January.

One thing is clear, the club is briefing against the German. Quite astonishing really. Our highest paid player who isn’t even a year into his new deal, is being nudged out of the club. I think it’s pretty clear now that the mega deal was a typically self-serving action of our now departed exCEO.

Anyway, I find it quite unbelievable that criticism is going the way of Emery. The childlike response from Oziltoligists is a sight to behold.

‘YOU WOULDN’T EXPECT MESSI TO PRESS’

‘YOU PAY OZIL TO BE OZIL’

‘EMERY CAN’T DEAL WITH BIG NAMES’

… a few of the best.

Let’s get one thing straight, Mesut is a supremely gifted player. One of the greats. There’s no doubt that if he applied himself, he’d be very valuable to our current situation. But the reality is, he’s not pulling his weight. He hasn’t been pulling his weight for years. He is a masterful creator, but that’s all he’s good for. In a modern system, it’s very hard to accommodate that type of player, which is why so few clubs adopt a free-roaming #10 these days. It’s not even just the pressing that so many keep highlighting, it’s the fact that he can’t be trusted to show up in big games. He can’t be trusted not to shy away from the tough away days. He’s constantly phoning in sick like some school kid with a fragile immune system. His second half season statistics always tank. He’s not a reliable leader despite being one of the 5 captains.

Arsene Wenger coddled the German. Notable that since his mercurial talent graced the club we’re now a Europa League side. Obviously not all the fault of one player, but when your star man has commitment issues, it does kind of set the tone for the squad.

You can even use Europe as a barometer for how far his star has fallen. He was available for sale for 18 months before he signed a deal for us. Who tried to seduce him? How many clubs dropped a bid the summer before he went into the final year of his deal? How many tried to make a cheeky move in January? Not many, and remember, he was on b-list money for a world class player. Do you think if Ozil were the player so many fans think he was, he’d be in such low demand?

The game has passed him by. He has most of the tools he needs to succeed at Arsenal. A terrier DM, two of the most potent strikers in world football, a really nice pitch, and a fanbase that adores him. Yet he seems to get worse every season. Is it fair to say that Cesc Fabregas played in a far worse squad and delivered way more? I think it is.

Ozil doesn’t want to adapt to the new ways of Emery’s Arsenal and thankfully, he is happy to make the tough decisions Wenger hadn’t for the past ten years. He won’t be making these decisions on a whim either, he’ll be using sophisticated data models that will support whatever hunch he has about the player on the pitch. He’ll no doubt have worked this decision through with Raul and Sven.

This is what ruthless decision making looks like.

Finally, one for Joke Friday… Wenger had this to say for BEin.

“The team is in good hands and I always said that. A lot of people thought when I left the club that the team would need to completely rebuild – I never thought that.”

“I am very happy that these people have been proven wrong.”

THIS IS WHY YOU DIDN’T GET THE UNITED JOB.

Right, that’s me done, see you in the comments.

I was surprised when the Ozil signing was announced. I wondered why he would want to come to Arsenal and why we weren’t outbid by a super-rich club at the last minute. Now, sadly, I know why. It’s his temperament. He has the talent but not the application. He is woefully inconsistent and lacks commitment. Such prima donnas are like a parasite on a team and we should remove him as soon as possible. I look back to when we had Alexis Sanchez, He was a machine for us. Hardly ever got injured and gave his all in every match.… Read more »

Any team news?

This new criteria for forwards to defend though. it’s laughable. I mean Eto is talking nonsense. When Neymar played for Barca, a pretty demanding team, he had no problems whatsoever. Psg can field their reserve team and still win ligue 1.

I wonder who Eto wants Neymar to defend against.

I saw some quotes attributed to Lacazettte on twitter, questioning the decision by Emery to bench Ozil. Was I alone in seeing it?

mysticleaves

I think Unai should do well to go back to 4231 and play Ozil with Xhaka/Torr behind him. Ozil might not fit his plans and then should be sold but as for now, that’s the best we have got.

Mesut Ozil… probably the most gifted Fortnite player in history.

For a moment there I thought the headline said –

Far more appropriate.

Yup, Alexis with all of his shortcomings, would have been miles better than playing Iwobi and Mikki. There are a lot of better talents than him out there, but he was already in our team. In form Alexis was the difference more often than not in our FAC runs especially the one when we beat Man City and Chelsea. He will be remembered much more fondly in our history than Ozil, the parasite. We don’t know though, if Alexis’ unpleasant behavior was pointed towards Wenger or the club as a whole, in which case he could have still kept his… Read more »

In days gone by, both Wenger and Gazidis would have been sent to the tower for such atrocities.

Infact, I think all Arsenal fans deserve an explanation from them both with regards to this.

You are right. For me, the single biggest cock up by AFC in their illustrious history.

We are going to keep sucking for a good amount of time because we didn’t sell Alexis and Ozil in the previous Summer. We would have received 100m probably in total that we could have used for getting more useful players than Ozil and Mkhitaryan.

It all goes back to the point that Wenger overstayed his welcome…

you said in the last post “I don’t feel that Lacazette is 100% fit” implying that is the reason why he has only started 2 of the last 6 league games.

This being the case ,why did the manager start / risk him in a meaningless game v quarabag ..

Graham62

Sanchez left because of Wenger and his inabilities to act.

Simple.

In his shoes, I’d have done the same.

Imagine having Torreira and Sanchez in the same team.

Bob

and who is the creative midfielder in emery’s plan? Ramsay going, ozil loan move. who is meant to make the goals or do something?

Ozil can’t function in Emery’s high press and high defensive line system. It is very aggressive and very demanding. Look at the two goals we gave up in the Spuds game. One through ball and their player has an one on one against our goalie. However, only a few teams in the PL adopts this high defensive line system. Most of the team outside the top 6 play a kind of packing the bus and fast countering system. Ozil can still function under a different system. Money aside, Sanchez had no intention of going to MU. MC was his preferred destination. The money became an issue because of our mismanagement. Kudos to Sanchez and his agent for milking MU for so much.

Sanchez was a warrior for us but became pissed off(quite rightly) with Wenger and what was going on around him.

I’m convinced if Wenger had left before Sanchez, which he should have done, Sanchez would probably still be at the club working under Emery.

The reason he became so petulant was because of Wenger.

Just an opinion.

Emiratesstroller

Pedro It is clear that Ozil does not fit into Emery’s requirement of “high octane” footballers who will work hard for the team. Yet watching recent games in his absence there is an acute shortage of creative quality in the team and noticeably our strikers have struggled to score goals. What Ozil for all his shortcomings offered the team was “creativity” and “intelligent” passing. That is now missing. Interesting that sanchez has cropped up in the discussion.
When he left I predicted he’d be a massive loss- especially as we got mhikitaryan in exchange instead of the £60 million man city offered us originally.

Since he left arsenal do not have a single player capable of producing a bit of magic – something unexpected if you like.

Danny

Going back to that Leicester game, Wenger was at the match, I wonder if that is the reason why Ozil played so well!

Lacazette’s a good, intelligent striker. He’s not in the same league as sanchez though.

With a truly exceptional player-like sanchez – a manager should allow that player a certain amount of freedom otherwise they’re wasted. That’s what mourihno has done- essentially drilling a world class bunch of players into playing like stoke.
