Get well soon Danny!

IT’S WELBZ TIME

Arsenal’s draw against Sporting Lisbon was spoiled with a horrendous injury to the main man, Danny Welbeck. He was challenging for a cross and it looked like his ankle crunched with an awkward fall. The man is the unluckiest guy at Arsenal. Absolutely awful to see.

The added layer of toughness is this: his deal runs out in the summer. I know Arsenal aren’t a charity, but it’s going to be tough not to have a heart for someone whose money will dry up in June with an awful injury.

What do you do there? I trust in Arsenal here. Not like the man hasn’t gone all out for us whenever he’s been given a chance.

As for the game, what can you say? Sporting didn’t register a shot on target in either leg, we’re on top of the group, we’ve qualified in that position if we finish off the next two games without hiccup.

There was additional bad news as Stephen Lichtsteiner proved that despite protest, his body isn’t actually that of a 28-year-old as he pulled up with a strain. I can recognise his leadership skills, but it does seem quite irresponsible of us to have had him as back up this season. We’re going to struggle on the right if we don’t address the weakness this January. AMN will help there, but it’s not his natural position.

There’s not really that much to talk of regarding moments on the pitch. No one really stood out, though I did think we were worthy of the win after creating some good chances, particularly in the second half.

The positives are that we’re unbeaten in 15 games. We drew after making 9 changes. It’s also very tough for a team to pick themselves up after a horrific injury to a teammate, as Emery pointed out.

“The worst news is injuries. He was working well, having a good game, he had a chance to score. When you are playing football, when you are playing competitive matches, it can happen. You don’t want that.

“But that is our profession. When a player is having an injury like that the players on the pitch look at it, and in your mind you are thinking of the player. At the end of the match the players asked for him.”

The most important game is this Sunday. Wolves are going to stretch us after a European game, so we have to be motivated and sharp. That game is a real banana skin. Lots of good players, lots of potential. All very exciting. Still can’t believe we’re not 19 points behind as we usually are at this stage of the season.

Right, that’s me done. See you in the comments for a fight. x

I don’t agree with Paulinho on Ramsey, but he’s making you look a twat (you’re doing most of the work in fairness) because you can’t talk football for more than a sentence.

Good one. Anyway look I’m tired of engaging with you and the little bully boy persona you’ve built for yourself on here you’re boring as fuck but continue swinging that dick of yours around here it’s all very convincing.

Champagne charlie

Marko I’d take you at all serious if you rehashed what was said and not what you want to portray. I’ve no shame in defending Xhaka from some of the scapegoating bollocks he received in the two years under Wenger. I long maintained he was an asset despite him getting written off and mocked at every opportunity by numpties like you. I also didn’t dismiss signings, how’s that possible when I’m one of the most outspoken against Kroenke and his investment? Marko logic is how. I actually argued that the remedy YOU offer of changing 15 players was fantasist rubbish,… Read more »

Ramsey’s appearance of quality has been vastly overstated by virtue of the fact he played in the worst arsenal midfield since pre wenger times – seriously Outside of a solitary season, Ramsey wouldn’t look like a worthy starter in any of our competitive wenger teams Even in his best season he’d have only made the bench during the invincibles, 02 and 98 People got excited because he was amazing for one season and he spearheaded our return to trophies after the barren run – but the sad truth is Ramsey is not a top quality player, he’s only ever been… Read more »

Hahaha transparent as fuck. Latching onto Banfords tales of “harassment” to further perpetuate the exact thing I called you out on.

Special breed you are. If you’re done engaging then there’s a dead easy alternative in future, don’t name drop when trying to be a clever cunt to someone else.

Marko

So how can this get to you: Between you and Ramsey Pierre and Ozil and Charlie and Xhaka why don’t you just support the club first and foremost instead of any one individual And then you write: I’ve no shame in defending Xhaka from some of the scapegoating bollocks he received in the two years under Wenger. I long maintained he was an asset despite him getting written off and mocked at every opportunity by numpties like you. You make it sound like I put two and two together and got five. I was right. The thoroughbred is in the last months of his contract, big clubs all over Europe must be on alert waiting to pounce, he will be the attacking fulcrum of a champions league winning team in two seasons, a team looking to go places as we have been told

Arsenal are losers for letting him go

The bible of Paulinho

Marko

Hahaha transparent as fuck. Latching onto Banfords tales of “harassment” to further perpetuate the exact thing I called you out on.

Actually it’s more that thing you do to others more so. You love butting in and dog piling on people you don’t agree with. It’s pretty clear. Take now for example don’t see Pierre anywhere feigning shock and horror at me mentioning him in a comment but you pop in with your don’t always agree with Paulinho but he’s made you look a right twat it’s all classic Charlie really. Anyway…

The world’s supply of tumbleweed takes a big hit whenever you attempt it.

Marko Stating that I should support the club first instead of any one individual is the lie I’m debating. You’ve tried to equate that defending a player from getting scapegoated is the same as putting a player before the club. Marko logic once again, it has one aim with you and that’s to undermine the posters legitimacy instead of the pov being discussed. It’s what i stated in my first post addressing you today and you’ve only gone on to reinforce that observation. “but you were so against it because you had your head so far up Arsene’s arse sniffing… Read more »

If this is your idea of humor i think i will pass

Paulinho

Yeah, you probably want to try and erase that one from your memory,

Joe

The amount of people on social
Media who think wellbeck “deserves” a new deal or arsenal should do the “classy” thing is ridiculous.

That’s not classy. It’s bad management.

Receding Hairline

Yeah, you probably want to try and erase that one from your memory,

We finally agree on something…..

Paulinho

Although it is best to talk about these things, shouldn’t let traumatic incidents fester, it will just lead to more uncontrollable relapses and even kleenex won’t be enough.

Champagne Charlie

Is it though Joe?

I mean nobody is buying Welbz in Jan now, so wouldn’t the club be better off using this position to temper his desire for a bumper new deal and get him happy to accept reasonable terms – perhaps with a view to a sale in the summer or following winter?

Letting him walk away instead of a January fee seems the poorer end of business for me. He’s not Elneny, he can still produce for us.

Bob N16

I admit I am a bit of an AMN fanboy and am happy that he can back up Bellerin if Lichtsteiner is out for any amount of time.

Yesterday was a little drab, nobody was particularly good or bad (no need to count Corporal Jenko). EL is a nothing competition until the CL teams come in. Agree totally with the view that we can be very selective about who travels in the last away game, week before Spuds and Manure.

Bob N16

Pedro,
We pay his salary while he’s injured, obviously. Support him with rehab and medical help if he needs it after his contract is up but financially, forget it. He’s off on a Bosman and his agent will negotiate a multi million pound signing on fee + a chunky four year contract.

Guns of SF

Feel badly for Danny. I hope he recovers and can continue to play… he has the worst luck.

With that said, the time is ripe to pluck another forward/winger now. Its imperative.
With Danny we needed one, now we need it even more.

Chase down Zaha please. Sad thing, is that i read that Palace were interested in Danny- he could have been added to the deal somehow

Champagne Charlie

“Joe, if you die on the job at Google, they give your family your final salary for life.“

Guns of SF

Im sure if he recovers he will be picked up by some mid table team. We need to take really nice glossy photos of him post recovery -training, videos etc.
Brand and market him to the next buyer.
Give him a nice severance bonus- but we cannot keep him any longer

Joke Friday:

I was telling a girl I met in a bar last night about my uncanny ability to guess the day a woman was born on just by feeling her boobs.

“Really?” she said. “Go on then… Try.”

After about 30 seconds of fondling she began to lose patience.

“Come on,” she demanded, “What day was I born on?”

“Yesterday?” I replied.

Ramsey, Oxlade,Walcott, and Wilshere were all in themselves decent enough players but ask yourself – in reality were they not actually squad players who were overpaid, overplayed and overhyped by Wenger to cover his shortcomings. The only reason some of us think they are the dog’s b*****ks is because Wenger conditioned a large part of the fanbase to accept mediocrity and called it excellence. Thankfully those days appear to be over. See you Aaron, before you rage on about how unfairly you were treated, remember how the club stood by you when you were broken. You’re not a victim. Got to agree with Pedro about supporting Welbeck for 2 simple reasons.

1) I haven’t a single story about us offering a new contract and him turning it down so this could be us not making an offer.

2) The simple most important reason – It’s about moral for other players it shows they are valued more than just a piece of meat.

Guns of Hackney

Fucking Google!

The fact that Amazon will give your family a pay off is ironic as they are normally responsible for working people to death…or so I’ve heard.

“Alexa…how much will I get when Bill dies assembling one of you”?

Guns of Hackney

Honestly…can we settle down on the Welbeck love in for a bit.

1. He’s a trash player.
2. Zero loss to the wider football world.
3. It gives us a reason to buy a good player.
4. He’s going to do okay.

Marc Moral for other players? Bollocks. He went into the final year of his deal knowing the risk. Especially as he is a sick note. It his own fault. He could have left last summer or signed last summer He was probably hoping for a big signing on bonus as a free. With all the pleas on the net about Danny and what Pedro is spouting, all I can say is thank God Arsene Wenger left Arsenal.

Never really got around to Henry as a coach. If he makes it I will be surprised. Twice already he has blamed his players openly for not performing to standard. It will also be good to know what he has added to them since he stepped in. The French league not so tough that Monaco, even with a change of manager, will remain second from bottom.

I’ve always kind of liked Welbeck as well. No, he is not a great scorer or finisher — indeed he’s not even a GOOD scorer or finisher — but his length, pace, energy and dribbling makes him a very useful player to have in the squad.

I don’t know how to assess whether it makes sense to extend him a new contract. Seems the right thing to do, but I would only make it a one year so that everyone can assess the situation again a year and a half from now.

Diaby was offered a contract based on the fact he had talent all Arsenal fans and the manager believed we still wanted/needed at the club. Not based on same charity.

Imagine having pity for someone who makes 75k in a week. That’s 300k in a month. Most civil works won’t make his Arsenal salary on their career. It’s mindless. What Arsenal can and should do is pledge to support him through rehab

kc

Wait wait wait so the same people who were on here constantly bitching for years about Wenger running up the wage bill on average and injury plagued players are now wanting the club to sign Welbz because he broke his ankle in the last game? Am I getting that right? How about we try learning from our mistakes instead of repeating them. smh

Welbeck is an athlete. Not a footballer. He is simply not good enough. You could put any number of 70k/wk strikers on our list and they would have an equally poor record for us. Very sad to see any player get that type of serious injury. But we should have sold him a long time ago. Its not surprising that we couldn’t sell him, because again he is not very good. Yeah, it is a dilemma. Yes, we did indulge ourselves with feeding useless crocks like Diaby. But we could do a decent thing and give him one year’s extension, possibly depending on the recovery process and with some pay as you play element. Sounds reasonable, no? He is on the right side of 30, unlike Cazorla too.

Someone said it was about the morale of the team and I agree. Welbeck may not be worldy, but he has graft in abundance. And if you want to play the type of football we strive to, you need grafters.

Up 4 grabs now

Morning people. Concerning wellbeck, my understanding is he is a very well liked member of the squad that doesn’t rock the boat about being first choice for the team. Like it or not you need these type of players to plug a gap, cover for suspension, rotate in for lesser games. As someone else mentioned it also sends a message to the rest of the team that players aren’t just a commodity. We all complain that arsenal is like a business now not a football club. @ Leeds….. Probably the most logical summation of the welbz issue.
The financial aspect of his horrible injury isn’t relevant to a millionaire as you point out.
Its a hammer blow to his ambitions….it’s come at a bad time when he would want to be in the shop window.
It’s hard not to feel sorry for him though….as regards to the possible effect this injury may have for his playing future.

Other than some insiders we don’t know the extent of the injury Welbeck sustains. Doesn’t look good though. Often, injuries got operated on asap to benefit healing etc but the next update is 72h (48 now) away! Hope it’s not career ending. . Talking contract extension is untimely, and probably emotional. For years, Arsene FC acted like a charity for players. Although I sympathize with Welbeck and his situation, it’s about time this charity ended.

It’s not as though Welbeck has to worry about paying his Council Tax but maybe a one year extension would suffice and keep everyone happy.

What’s your idea of Arsenal spending “big”

Marc

Pierre

Providing Cesc’s wage demands were OK that’s a good idea.

Joe

We don’t have an unlimited budget to spend on players yet some of you want us to re-sign wellbeck because it’ll help with the moral.

Think players think of moral when they hold clubs to ransom??

Welllbeck is paid his salary until 1 July. 70k a week.

If he fit, he’ll sign for another club easily. If he’s not fit, Insurance will pay him until he is fit. He doesn’t need to be signed on another contract. He will be compensated after his contract ends because he was injured at work.

He earns 70k a week. He’ll be just fine

Joe

Now let’s move on to more important things

Will the club replace him in Jan? And with whom

Marc

Joe

Well that’s the difficult question and it all depends whether we’re replacing him as 3rd striker who offers some physical presence in the box or a wide player who we need at least one of even with Welbeck in the squad.

I would add a winger. That’s what we desperately need. A proper goal scoring tricky winger

Marc

Leeds

You need to differentiae between those saying we should help Welbeck back to fitness and give him as much support as we can and those saying that plus a new contract.

As for your other points.

1) As long as those serving food / drinks are expected a) to work harder and b) be able to count.

2) I know the club does a lot behind the scenes etc but I think that’s a great idea.

3) Not sure that would necessarily help the group you’ve targeted.

4) I’m sure we’re involved with grass roots football.

Leedsgunner

If the draws have taught us anything it is this: 1. We need another DM destroyer who offers us the same type of play that that Torreira gives us. Declan Rice at West Ham essentially does the same thing for them that he does for us. He’s been growing leaps and bounds there and keeping Wilshere on the bench, even when he is fit. 2.
