Arsenal fans: LET’S BE FRIENDS

by .

Wrighty special via @Fokohaela

Aren’t Arsenal fans a weird old bunch. We’ve had a blinder this weekend, bagging ourselves a point against one of the best sides in Europe and still we’re going off at each other. I’m reading a book at the minute that New Yorkers find incredibly offensive, but one of the notions is that if you give a man everything he wants, he’ll still find a way to destroy it, just to make the point he is man.

On my own website, after a really great result, I’m getting micro-pelters about my views on Xhaka and my choice for manager in the summer. The hand that pays for the internet good times has been savagely gnawed. An appalling abuse of our internet friendship.

Lads, what does it matter? Live in the now. Enjoy the moment. Let’s dissect the positives for once.

The constant attack of other fans who sacrificed live Gunnasaurs to the AKB gods are also pointless. Honestly, the battle is won. We all have what we want. That is change. That is a better, more progressive, more joyful Arsenal life.

We really need to be friends in the good times, because without that, what are but mere heathens?

Jokes aside folk, lighten the fuck up. This is football discussion.

Leno made some mistakes yesterday, I’m not sure why it’s a crime to admit that.

Iwobi was majestical. Like a pink unicorn on ice skates. Let’s celebrate that. It really doesn’t matter if you said he had a fat arse last season.

Who really knows what’s going on with our defence, but something must have happened for us to only have conceded 1 against a team as brutal as Liverpool.

Aren’t you really f*cking glad paaaashun is back in the dugout? Isn’t it great to see a manager with as much energy as you on the sidelines? Isn’t it amazing how that craziness reflects into the dull stands? YES it is. I love that.

Additionally, can we all just agree the Torreira is the best thing to happen to our midfield since Cesc Fabregas landed all that time ago? I fucking love him.

OH MY. Then look at the underlings coming through. Reiss Nelson is battling it out with Sancho to be king of the Bundesliga. We have Smith Rowe, Maitland Niles, Mavrapanos, Holding and Nkeitiah all chomping at the sideline turf. ALSO, we have Geundouzi coming into the side. What a hero that lad is. I LOVE him.

That’s before we’ve sold of Koscielny (sad face) and Aaron Ramsey (kind of sad face).

What a beautiful state we’re in.

So come on, for the sake of the internet, let’s enjoy the good times. Because here’s one thing for sure, there’s no doubt we’re going to have a really rough time at some point this season. It’s still going to be a massive ask for us to make top 4. Spurs, United and Chelsea all have bedded in teams with levels. We haven’t dealt with our second crisis yet. It’ll come. Hopefully we have enough in the locker to make it out. But for me, that only comes with pos-emery-tivity. You get me? Yes you do.

If you can’t be friends in the good times, you’re sure to be foes in the bad.

Right, that’s me done. Podcast maybe this week.

See you darlings in the comments. x

CC,

Offside rule – too much interpretation to make it clear cut. How can Mane not be affecting play when Leno had to consider two runners 2/3 yards apart coming at him? Phase 1 of the play Mane didn’t touch the ball but was too close to the play not to affect Leno’s decision making.Maybe Arsenal were a little lucky but if it hadn’t been cancelled out, we would have felt really hard done by.

Uwot?

And Klopp crying like a bitch about the “ disallowed goal” that should have stood? The media backing him full tilt.makes u sick.Mane WAS offside & clearly interfering with play.He initially chased the ball AND was only 5/6 yards from goal.yet conveniently the media ignore this as their darlings didn’t hand out the thrashing they were so cockily expecting.Tough shit!

Champagne charlie

Bob n16 Exactly my thoughts, you’re creating a grey area giving the decision such flex. I understand it in principle, but I simply don’t come close to agreeing you can be in the box like that and NOT be interfering. Just makes no sense as you point out. Mane made a move toward the ball, which unquestionably featured on Leno’s peripheral radar when coming off his line. But what is being argued here by some, that Mane didn’t touch it? Christ, what a take on interfering if that’s the apparent defence of the rule in this case. He was 12… Read more »

What a beautiful post Pedro. You are the best.

Rambo Ramsey

“Pedro you could drastically reduce the amount of abuse and name calling by simply banning some words. If Cunt, melt, twat is in the comment then it does not get posted.”

NO! Fvck off you cunt.

Graham62

To put everything into perspective, for those of you who will never get it.

If, twenty-two years down the line, Unai Emery is still at the helm( not going to happen) and he shows the same amount of disrespect and arrogance towards the club and it’s fanbase as our predecessor did, then yes, maybe, just maybe, I would consider popping along to the Amex or Craven Cottage for the occasional game or two.

As I’ll be 78( or dead!) by then, I think it’ll be justified.

Onwards and upwards.

Rambo Ramsey

‘I remember just a few months ago debating with some Maitland-Niles fanboys about who was the bigger talent.’

I can’t believe he has fans. 21 year old who has done nothing. How can any self-motivated ‘talented player’ be happy with barely kicking the ball at that age?

TR7

‘Additionally, can we all just agree the Torreira is the best thing to happen to our midfield since Cesc Fabregas landed all that time ago? I fucking love him.’

I would say the best thing to happen to our midfield since Santi Cazorla joined us from Malaga.

Bob N16

Graham,

‘To put everything into perspective, for those of you who will never get it.’
Do you ever consider what you’re typing before posting? Isn’t this statement less than wise?

Onwards and upwards yet looking back in anger.
Do you realise how contradictory you are?

If I was building an idiot, I think I know where I can source the brain!

Bob N16

Rambo,

AMN, ‘can’t believe he”s got fans.’ Are you serious?

Technique, speed, composure… in my opinion the possibility of a top class career, oh and he happens to have come through our youth teams.

What exactly do you have against him? He’s broken into the Arsenal squad and has represented England U21…not too shabby…

Rambo Ramsey

‘Technique, speed, composure… in my opinion the possibility of a top class career’

Championship level player. But whatever bruh, give him special points for being ‘local’

Northbanker

Rambo – ffs the lad has only been part of the squad 5 mins and is still young
He may or may not make it but so far shows great promise esp as left back where he has been used most recently is not a natural position
Get behind them and stop doing such a downer

Marko

I mean Reiss has done more at 18 and in 4 months than AMN has in 2 seasons and at 21. I mean I like the lad but he’s got a lot of work to do before you can consider him a top class prospect

Leedsgunner

An excellent article on how Emery used Mkhitaryan and Iwobi to maximum effect and with tactics in mind.

https://www.footballfancast.com/features/fixture-in-focus/arsenal-vs-liverpool/the-chalkboard-the-iwobi-or-mkhitaryan-debate-at-arsenal

Leedsgunner

Why the Maitland-Niles criticism? Unai Emery is a proper developer of youth talent and I’m excited to see how our youngsters will develop under him.

With every youngster we can bring through means more money we can devote to obtaining a world class player that we are not bringing through. It will save us hundreds of millions and allow us focus on quality when looking in the transfer market.

I isle AMN all the best and I want him to show he can do.

Northbanker

Marko – all that means is that RN may be an even more outstanding prospect than AMN but he may also have just got the break he needed- a German Bundesliga team where he want simply benched as so often happens to loanees
AMN was drafted in to play left back on occasions and imo has shown great promise given that isn’t his natural position

I agree with Ozil not having a great game, but I did see him moving better without the ball and his body language was more positive than in the past. He seemed up for the fight. Seems like someone may have had the “Chat ” with him Torreira- someone wrap this kid in cotton wool. I love this guy… All blue collar… puts his body on the line. Marko

Put it this way AMN is a midfielder right not a LB and considering we’ve already got better options than him there now and are more likely to bring someone in than play him there there’s little chance of him making it as a CM here he’s more likely if he was to become a RB for me. Whereas Reiss Nelson is a RW/RF and we’ve got a lack of natural players in that particular area he’s more likely to make it because of that.

Bob N16

Rambo, are you a little tetchy because your namesake is being marginalised and AMN ‘s return to fitness might push him out further? Or am I making 2+2 =5?

Bob N16

Marko, Your first sentence was quite a mouthful! I coan see AMN playing RB or a RM role, if we were up against a top quality team and needed extra support for say Bellerin. Guendozi and AMN can cover one of the two CM positions. One of AMN’s strength’s is his versatility but not having a clear position could be a problem for him down the line. I’m sure Emery has a clear plan…hope that includes him playing with Guendozi in CM on Thursday. Nelson’s preferred position is AM, No 10 in old money but I guess out wide is… Read more »

Northbanker

Marko – don’t disagree on RN and in fact other than emergence of ESR who also favours that side look very likely he will emerge quickly
Iwobi clearly not comfortable on right and Mikhi underachieving at present
Also agree AMN could be a right back of future but where better to learn that trade than as LB where we have a hole.

GG did that years ago with Nigel Winterburn ( but other way around of course)

Whose angry? Not me. Just highlighting a personal opinion, that you don’t agree with.

Absolutely delighted that progress is afoot but, to reiterate, to expect all fans to unite and “become friends”, will never happen.

Negativity towards the previous regime though, will not hamper my enjoyment of the Emery revolution. Infact, it’s an added bonus.

The “anger” that you talk about, seems to exude from you.

O and U.

Obviously, you can’t.

Leedsgunner

Wenger now favourite to replace Gattuso at AC Milan. It would not surprise me at all if this happened especially with Gazidis there now.

Surely they will try to sign Ramsey on a free? Perhaps we could also tempt them with Jenkinson and Elneny too?

Graham62

Delete ” obviously you can’t”.

Guns of SF

Hahaha Wenger in Milan.
I actually feel bad for them.

Graham62

If Wenger goes to AC Milan, it only goes to show how fudged up things became at Arsenal.

Not a surprise if it happens.

Graham62

It only goes to prove what most of us all knew.

azed

“Surely they will try to sign Ramsey on a free? Perhaps we could also tempt them with Jenkinson and Elneny too?”

Imagine if we could get them to sign Ozil (calm down Pierre) for 30M?

Graham62

Tough on Milan.

Lol!

Bob N16

‘Negativity to the old regime……is an added bonus’. You do talk a load of old sh*te. I love going to matches, I loved leaving the ground on Saturday with all my mates, we were all buzzing with pleasure. The only ‘anger’ I have, which is too strong a word for the feeling I have when reading some posts on here, is when I read bullsh*t about Arsenal. How can you reconcile chiming ‘ Onwards and upwards’ with every post and then still moan about the past that you endlessly bring up ? Boasting that you’ve been moaning for 10 years… Read more »

Wenger at Milan with his old backroom crew. LOL.After 6 weeks they would put a Mafia bit on him. Best banter I’ve heard all day. Would love it to happen. Doubt if fear of failure would allow him to take it.

Leeds. Sadly Milan are in such dire straits now that they would take top 4 absolutely now if someone would give it to them. When I remember the Van Hasten, Rijkaard team and later the fearsome team fronted by Weah. I almost weep. I loved that era. The team of my teenage /Uni years.

Cesc Appeal

Milan might not want an actual football manager though, which is why Wenger might be being looked at which will suit him fine. No football expectations.

The owners have taken possession of Milan after the previous owner defaulted. They need it tightened up so they can sell it soon as.

Bob16

You ever heard of competitive victimhood? This is competetive misery on here.

Anyway bob, onwards and upwards.

London gunner

I’m going to. Get a shit load of. Hate for. Supporting Bamford, but I do think he is right that we should play 352.

Auba is useless on the wing doesn’t have any dribbling ability unfortunatel, which is fine if we play him as a poacher/off the shoulder centrally.

I also like the fact with a 352 we can still play iwobi and say welbeck on the wing (before we find an improvement)

Guns of SF

Ozil to Milan not a bad idea. I have always imagined him going there… I can see him with that slow league… bar the top 2 teams

Cesc Appeal

Guns of SF

Never thought of that.

Let’s get Wenger to Milan!

Marko

Simply not true. Fake news one might say. Most on here are in good spirits. A couple just can’t seem to let go and that’s about.

Monsieur Wenger to Milan?

Grab your popcorn people. It’s about to get real.
Milan have a reasonable squad so no excuses for Wenger.

He will be working with a DoF there I see.

Bob N16

Unai,

I’m smiling now not grimacing so I’ll go with O and U!

Pierre

Can still field a decent side v sporting without using any of starters v Liverpool ..

Midfield and attacking wise we look strong ..
Guendouzi and AMN holding in midfield then a choice of iwobi, welbeck, Smith rowe and Ramsey as the 4 offensive players..

Alternately he could start Ramsey alongside Guendouzi in centre midfield ,similar to the Blackpool game last week.

Defensively, it will depend on who’s fit..

Guns of SF

Ivan the rat, Wenger the imbecile.
Please team up and convince the DOF to make any offer on Rambo and Ozil. We will through in Jens, El Neny ,Kos

Not enough fit CB’S for three at the back. My preference is the 4-2-3-1 that we played at Fulham which was our best attacking performance of the season. He started with Welbeck centrally and Lacazette on the right and they rotated and sometimes it became a 4-2-2-2. I would play Aubameyang centrally with Lacazette on the right Iwobi/Welbeck on the left and Ozil CAM

Also said holding iwobi and welbz were well worth keeping too. I think that welbeck could be a 20 goal a season player. To be fair only Bamford backed me on welbeck too.

I’m telling you if we kept hold of Wilshere and kept him fit he’d have shone in this side. We plumped for Ramsey instead and now look what’s happened.

Iwobi is a bit of an enigma for me…I watch him v palace and he plays like he doesn’t have a clue . No composure on the ball , making bad decisions, losing possession ,running down blind alleys , giving the ball away and I’m convinced he is not up to scratch . Agree with you on CC and his stand on xhaka …

Afraid to say that it’s looking like Ramsey playing alongside him for th last few years has been the problem which in itself is a criticism of Monsieur Wenger.

“Let the guy have a good season before you start spouting off”

Says he who spends half of his life spouting off about Emery who has only been at the club 5 minutes.

Marko

I don’t see why certain types can’t just enjoy that for once Xhaka was excellent against decent opposition in a big game and that he is showing signs of improvement. Very premature to be coming out with the i told you so’s. Had the same with Ozil after the Leicester game and since then he’s been back to okay and getting subbed. Plus you make it sound like the criticism for his performances the previous TWO seasons was unfair. It wasn’t

Marko

Afraid to say that it’s looking like Ramsey playing alongside him for th last few years has been the problem which in itself is a criticism of Monsieur Wenger.

No the problem was the dummy refused to bring in a DM for years and years. He tried to be clever and it cost us for years and years. And lo and behold his replacement comes in and one of the first things he does is bring in a ball winning midfielder. If Xhaka is improving it’s because Torreira is flourishing

Joe

Says he who spends half of his life spouting off about Emery who has only been at the club 5 minutes

Emery has proven his quality by going on a 13 match unbeaten streak. By the quality of play. Attitude of players. Tactics. Subs. Etc.

And by improving players like Iwobi. Xhaka. Holding. Etc.

Xhaka has had one or two good matches.

Back to your hole troll

Pierre

Joe
Obviously you don’t read my posts …I had been saying for years that Ramsey is the problem in our midfield and now he has been replaced by Torriera so for me it is everything not nothing that has changed .

What I said the other day is we need some perspective as atm we are in a similar position as last season so let’s not go “spouting off ” about how brilliant we are doing …..perspective Joe .

That’d be why I said early signs look positive. Curious though, Xhaka (and others) have shown a marked improvement since Emery took over agreed?

So why are you giving it the ‘let Xhaka have a good season first before yapping’, and at the same time you’ve crowned Emery the undisputed dogs bollocks?

Ah I see what you did there very good Don. But he picked the team and made the signings or lack thereof. Understand?

Pierre

Finding the reaction to Saturdays game a long way over the top.We looked pretty good, a fair result. But we really need to win some big games. Thats 3 big games, and 1 point so far this season.
We will not get into the top 4 if we only pick up the odd draw against our top 4 rivals. Some of them need to be wins
.As a result on its own, its nothing to be overly happy about. Teams well down the league pick up home draws against top 4 teams all the time.

Marko

He’d be making a mistake taking on the Milan job. He’ll be sacked inside a season. They’re a mess he’s not a good manager anymore and there’s a culture of sacking manager’s over there.

Marko

You seem to always be lending your voice to what Wenger should do next.

Sure yes. My advice to a once great manager who’s now past it and who’s old and extremely wealthy is enjoy retirement. Why go through the stress of another job a tough job mind you

Champagne charlie

Marko

Matter of perspective. Being a manager in Milan probably appeals to someone who absolutely loves the day to day of football management.

I’m certain Wenger has developed a tolerance to the pressures of the role and will take his next appointment very much in the spirit of enjoying it.

Only so many beaches and brunches you can go on before you want to do something stimulating, and something he’s quite eveidently made his life’s work. You can relate no?

There’s tabloid talk that Koschienly is a transfer target for Barca.

Only an upside at Milan, he could be the guy that steadies them after half a dozen failed.

Or it’s more of the same and he gets sacked yet again. Remember he’ll have no acolytes past glories to fall back on. He fails he gets sacked not more time and more time

Whether we play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2, there is no question we would get more out of both Lacazette and Aubameyang if we played both of them through the center. Both would be better in such a set-up.

Joe

“We were really good on Saturday.”

Nah, we were good, but “really good” is a stretch. If we had been “really good,” we would have won. For fuck’s sake, we had to score late in order just to draw — and this at home.

While certain players (Xhaka, Torreira) were quite good, others were not all that great (Aubameyang, Ozil).

We can play better than that, and we will need to in order to beat Spurs and United.

have to say, I was really disappointed with the lineup. I can understand Ozil starting because to drop him would create a media shit storm and it’s tempting to field a player that can, if rarely, change a game in an instant, but Mkhitaryan? Didn’t get that – fielding both of them seemed completely counter-productive and against everything Emery is trying to achieve with the front press. Hmm I said it before but I think there’s no reasonable explanation for how mane was not interfering with play for his offside goal

If you were Leno in that position, there’s no way you wouldn’t feel it’s a 2 v 1 and a moment of confusion about how to deal with the situation with them both close to the ball

Wallace

AM-N’s problem has been his athletic ability has meant he’s an obvious alternative when our full backs are injured. and also, our left backs are always injured. games he should have been getting a start in central midfield – europa & league cup – he’s been shuttled over and the puzzle that is Joe W has taken his spot.

of course it might be that he doesn’t have the composure to play CM at prem level, but as of this moment i just think he’s been very unlucky with injuries, both his own and our left backs’.

Wallace

for me his role is as the obvious back up to Torreira, should anything happen to the little guy.
