Arsenal fans: LET’S BE FRIENDS

by .

Wrighty special via @Fokohaela

Aren’t Arsenal fans a weird old bunch. We’ve had a blinder this weekend, bagging ourselves a point against one of the best sides in Europe and still we’re going off at each other. I’m reading a book at the minute that New Yorkers find incredibly offensive, but one of the notions is that if you give a man everything he wants, he’ll still find a way to destroy it, just to make the point he is man.

On my own website, after a really great result, I’m getting micro-pelters about my views on Xhaka and my choice for manager in the summer. The hand that pays for the internet good times has been savagely gnawed. An appalling abuse of our internet friendship.

Lads, what does it matter? Live in the now. Enjoy the moment. Let’s dissect the positives for once.

The constant attack of other fans who sacrificed live Gunnasaurs to the AKB gods are also pointless. Honestly, the battle is won. We all have what we want. That is change. That is a better, more progressive, more joyful Arsenal life.

We really need to be friends in the good times, because without that, what are but mere heathens?

Jokes aside folk, lighten the fuck up. This is football discussion.

Leno made some mistakes yesterday, I’m not sure why it’s a crime to admit that.

Iwobi was majestical. Like a pink unicorn on ice skates. Let’s celebrate that. It really doesn’t matter if you said he had a fat arse last season.

Who really knows what’s going on with our defence, but something must have happened for us to only have conceded 1 against a team as brutal as Liverpool.

Aren’t you really f*cking glad paaaashun is back in the dugout? Isn’t it great to see a manager with as much energy as you on the sidelines? Isn’t it amazing how that craziness reflects into the dull stands? YES it is. I love that.

Additionally, can we all just agree the Torreira is the best thing to happen to our midfield since Cesc Fabregas landed all that time ago? I fucking love him.

OH MY. Then look at the underlings coming through. Reiss Nelson is battling it out with Sancho to be king of the Bundesliga. We have Smith Rowe, Maitland Niles, Mavrapanos, Holding and Nkeitiah all chomping at the sideline turf. ALSO, we have Geundouzi coming into the side. What a hero that lad is. I LOVE him.

That’s before we’ve sold of Koscielny (sad face) and Aaron Ramsey (kind of sad face).

What a beautiful state we’re in.

So come on, for the sake of the internet, let’s enjoy the good times. Because here’s one thing for sure, there’s no doubt we’re going to have a really rough time at some point this season. It’s still going to be a massive ask for us to make top 4. Spurs, United and Chelsea all have bedded in teams with levels. We haven’t dealt with our second crisis yet. It’ll come. Hopefully we have enough in the locker to make it out. But for me, that only comes with pos-emery-tivity. You get me? Yes you do.

If you can’t be friends in the good times, you’re sure to be foes in the bad.

Right, that’s me done. Podcast maybe this week.

See you darlings in the comments. x

Cheers for fixing the time-zone Pedro! (Now can you fix the comments form?)

Nice one DM.

Every single arsenal fan I’ve met this morning is literally still buzzing from our performance against Liverpool on sat.
Now this is what supporting a football club should look like and feel like.
The best thing that happened to us(in a really long time) was letting Wenger go last season.

Leftsidesanch

Most of us will get along well enough because we all want to see Arsenal do well. There’s some trolls who would rather be proven correct than Arsenal thrive.

kenyangunner

Happy times indeed..but some just choose to be miserable

Leftsidesanch

One of the best things this season is that the stadium feels like a football stadium once again, everyone’s refreshed and positive, it’s a pleasure to attend Arsenal games again.

Bob N16

From previous post… Ddkings, I’m not sure if I can agree with your set of objectives. Surely the aim is to win every game and see where that gets us.. Cups are particularly difficult to aim for. Sure rotation in the cups is worthwhile to protect the legs of some of our players but we have a squad of players, some who need game time to be ready if injuries happen to our first ‘13/14’. The PL has to be our main focus. The EL is Mickey Mouse until the CL rejects join in. The FA cup is very dependent… Read more »

Pedro, You nailed it with your post today, many reasons to be cheerful as well as clear areas where we can obviously still improve. Following years of ‘ground hog day’ supporting, we now have a real spring in our step. Torreira, what a player. All of us knew we needed someone with his skillset for years (Song had a good season in that position, back in the day!). Xhaka, now benefits from being able to do what he does best. If that can be replicated in a couple of other areas, someone to compliment Bellerin on the right for example,… Read more »

Really interesting dynamic existing with some on Legrove. For the last few years, many on here constantly slagged the old manager and to a lesser extent the players, pushed for demos, non attendance and generally expressed their negativity of the status quo. In response, ‘the loyalists’ took on the ‘revolutionaries/moaners’ and accused them of being disloyal and to an extent disrespectful. New manager comes in and everything flips, the hard core moaners/revolutionaries, who have suffered accusations of disloyalty for years, now throw exactly the same criticisms at those who had a go at them. Those who were ‘defenders of the… Read more »

POS_EMERY_TIVITY!!! Yaaaaaaaaaz!!! I’m loving the energy around Arsenal FC at the moment. It’s like Unai’s just feng-shui’ed the toxic atmosphere at the club into thin air!

The only problem with universal positivity is that the comments section will get quite boring. You need these fruitcakes coming up with crazy talk to keep things interesting!

Earlier this morning I published on previous thread the stats for top 10 players in our squad relating to completed passes. Xhaka stood out by a country mile as the best in that department and confirms why he should be playing in the heart of our midfield in starting line up alongside Torreira. What we need also to do is find two additional players who can replace both of these players when they get injured or need to be rotated. Guendouzi is clearly a good replacement for Xhaka and may well in due course replace him in starting lineup. Finding… Read more »

Talking of passion on the side lines, and I mentioned it yesterday. Klopp was like the world was ending, screaming and berating his players with every sloppy pass and mishit. I’ve never seen him that intense and losing it like that. Emery although passionate and geeing up the crowd was a lot more calm and encouraging if an error occurred. The press & media have bigged up Klopp & the bindippers this year and I think the pressure is starting to show on Klopp. I think he knows Chelsea look more of a threat to city than they do? they… Read more »

Gooner5am

Well said Pedro! Had a swell time at the office with fellow gooners this morning, can’t see why it should be any different on here. It was an electric weekend, the stadium was charged and the lads gave it their best!

Torreira? Love em!
Iwobi? Fantastic!
Holding, Xhaka? Standout performances!
Even oldzil threw in his shift.

I thought Pedro was going to remove the AKB guide?

Pedro Letting “bygones be bygones” is all well and good, but to coin another classic Footballing phrase, “at the end of the day” too much water has flowed under the bridge for us all to be totally united. Life would be exceptionally tedious if we all thought and acted the same way and although I’m 100% behind what Emery is doing, I will never accept, or agree with, those individuals who feel that we should brush aside our differences and forget what Wenger did or, should I say, did not do for the club. I may be in the minority… Read more »

As Pedro mention it in his post, with manure, the spuds and the chavs in the mix, it would be a big achievement for Emery if we finished 4th this season.

Micheal

Good post Pedro.

I suspect the frustration and anger of the past 10 years led some headbangers on here to rip into each other. The simply forgot that a forum is just that – a platform for opinions. To be honest, it turned me off particpating and I reckon a few others were equally pissed off.

Stick to football, folks. Enjoy the moment.

Graham62

Sorry Pierre/ Victorious/BobN16 etc, that’s the way it is, and always will be, for me.

Xhaka has broken newton’s Third law – a turf cannot be polished

As a result of his sudden shininess a black hole has just opened somewhere close to the Swiss alps

China1

*a turd*

Can turf be polished??

Rainman

Pedro you could drastically reduce the amount of abuse and name calling by simply banning some words. If Cunt, melt, twat is in the comment then it does not get posted.

Rainman

Obvs there would still be a way to post banned words, by adding periods and other hacks, but if a person becomes soo desperate that they start adding periods just to insult someone then they probably don’t deserve to post on this platform.

Biggles

I’ll be honest, I was expecting to have been skelped so hard I’d be standing today, but they did us proud. The argument that the equivalent fixture last season was a draw ignores the fact that Liverpool dropped mega money on Van Dijk and Alisson since then, ignoring Keita and Fabinho. My watching of the game was heavily interrupted, so it’s hard for me to judge, but was Kolasinac half decent, or was that just me? Xhaka actually looked good, which was a pleasant surprise. Thing is, he was good in Germany, there was a reason we dropped £35m on… Read more »

I f course, keep the fruitcakes, it would be incredibly stupid to ban posters like Joe and Graham .

Globalgunner

Having a right old laugh at the comments. Every same pundit in the world knew Wengers time was up. When opposition fans start chanting your mangers name and asking him to stay then any person with inner self worth would have stepped aside. Wenger was too afraid of where he finds himsèlf now. Whereas his world has not actually come to an end. I don’t hate any AKB. However I would encourage them to donate their brains in postérity. So that scientists may be able to answer some intriguing questions.

Bob N16

Graham,

Quite a fixed mindset; ‘that’s the way it is, and always will be, for me.’

I think you and others may be suffering from a mild form of PTSD and over time this bitterness towards the old regime could well mellow. Otherwise you may simply come across as a bit of a grumpy old man.

I thought ‘onwards and upwards’ was your go to phrase, slightly clashes with your regressive ‘looking back in anger’ wouldn’t you say?

Emiratesstroller

Pierre Wenger was past his sell by date for at least 6-8 years and the team/squad lacked backbone under his stewardship. Emery has introduced backbone to the spine of the team and it is beginning to show in our results and performance. It is still an unfinished project before we can be certain that the club are title/top 4 contenders. Surprisingly I don’t think that the club needs to make massive changes to its squad. We need most definitely a left back and also a right wing in starting lineup. We could also do with a top class Centre Back,… Read more »

Bob N16

Global,

What proportion of the fan base do you think still wanted the old manager to continue? I honestly know of only one person who still wanted him to stay and that mate is a contrarian at the best of times! Everybody else, over the last few years, had enough of him well before this year.

Bob N16

Totally agree ES,

We don’t have the budget to make massive cheque book improvements to our squad but getting rid of over paid(valued) players from the payroll and promoting cheaper academy players will release funds for transfers. Nelson, AMN, ESR, Nketiah could save us loads of money and if we sell them at some stage, can bring in decent money to support our transfer kitty.

Champagne charlie

Graham

Nobody cares about your own stubborn ill-feeling and any grudge you have for Wenger, that’s where your confusion peaks. Harbour all the pent up hate you like about him.

Some simply disagree with your assessment and mock the flippant attitude you had towards Arsenal. Craven Cottage awaits if Emery takes a dive in efficacy, and therein lies the scrutiny you receive from others.

Brook

Peace and Love unto thee, thy Gooner breathren.

Rainman

Instead of wanting Pedro to restrict language as per your own taste, why not avoid getting so invested in a total stranger on the internet using the words you laid out?

Who “deserves” to post here anyway? I missed my entrance exam, and background check, so have I not met the criteria?

up 4 grabs now

The big signing needed is a centre back, its doubtful that a top draw signing will be available in January. so will probably have to wait till the summer at least.

The adidas money drops in then, and hopefully champions league if we’re lucky?

The problem will be, every one and there dog will be looking for someone.
you either go big for a real promising youngster 22-23 bracket or hope Sven and the crew bag another diamond like they did with Torriera?

A new left back comes after that!

Bamford10

While we are seeing good results, I continue to think we would get more out of both Aubameyang and Lacazette if we played them together through the center. This could be in a 3-5-2 or a 4-4-2, depending on circumstances. To finish fourth, we’re probably going to need to beat Spurs and United when we meet them, and to do that, I think we need to elevate our performances another notch.

Emiratesstroller

The major problem for Arsenal in recruiting a proven top class centre back is that virtually every major club in Europe is looking for that type of player including Man Utd and Chelsea.

If such a player becomes available the transfer fee is likely to be North of £70 million.

Somehow I don’t see Arsenal spending that level on a defender. So the more
likely route is going to be either second tier mature players like Sokratis or
young developing talent such as Holding and Mavropanos.

HighburyLegend

Bamford, could you just enjoy the moment ??
(ffs ??)
(lolz)

Lance Peters

Just shows how far we dropped under Wenger. We now buzzing after drawing with Liverpool at home. We should be creaming them like we used to in the premier league.

Bamford10

Rainman

Good idea, except that Charlie wants to preserve his ability to call other people here names, including the c-word. Verbal bullying is kind of his thing.

HighburyLegend

A short post from Emiratesstroller –>> the Emery effect!!

HighburyLegend

Please let’s welcome Lance, the new guy from Untold.

kc

Lance Peters welcome to 2018 where Liverpool just recently played for the CL title. Did you just come out of a coma or what?

Bamford10

Highbury

I am fully enjoying the moment. I will not turn off my brain and say only positive things, however. That does no one any good, is boring, is brainless, is useless. If a player makes mistakes, people should be free to point this out. If a player lacks quality, people should be free to point this out. Others are free, obviously, to disagree about whether Player A made a mistake or about whether Player B lacks quality, but to say that no one can say anything critical or negative is silly, IMO.

Bamford10

Highbury

Oh, I see: you were referring to my comment about playing those two through the center. In that case, no, I cannot simply enjoy the moment: I genuinely think we need to be even better if we want to beat Spurs, if we want to beat United, if we want to finish fourth. I assume everyone else here wants these things too — if not more.

duvee

is Chambers getting his game at Fulham?

Champagne charlie

“Good idea, except that Charlie wants to preserve his ability to call other people here names, including the c-word. Verbal bullying is kind of his thing.“

I thought it was anti-American sentiment?

You went quiet after that was addressed yesterday and your own anti-English references were laid bare. Funny that ehh.

Now it’s verbal bullying? Just remind everyone your nickname for Weagle again…

Substantiate your pathetic claims.

Ddkingz

What I hate the most….
@ bamford…. Are you a kid???

If No….. Then stop complaining about the mistake, for I’m sure Emery and leno was/is not happy also about the Liverpool goal, and are working hard to make the keeper better at handling crosses and inswinging balls into the box…. And think of something positive to write about…

If yes…. You are a kid, then kid ranting like the kid you seeking for moms attention….

But seriously, is joe your mom????

Globalgunner

Ramsey is off. Good riddance. The ideal replacement for him would be Thomas Partey currently not getting games at Atletico Madrid. Him. Xhaka, Torr and Guendozi are all the midfield we need for the next 5 years

Leftsidesanch

What a comment from Lance. We finished 12 points behind Liverpool last season who also got to a CL final. They’ve invested well in their squad over the last few years and are now expected to challenge for the title/reach latter stages in Europe perhaps.

Can be argued that we should be “creaming” (whatever that means) certain teams in the league but Liverpool isn’t one of them. Have you also realised since Klopp took over they’re unbeaten in 7 against us.

Ddkingz

I’ve been here for a short while…..
And I’ve never read anything positive from bamfords comment… The guy is always nagging like one of my bitches….

This guy doesn’t watch live matches, due to his own reasons, but always watches 2mins 34sec highlight reel and be looking for mistakes…..

Complaining about leno…. Did we not watch the match…
I love the competitiveness, but sometimes, it’s just boring with some folks on here…

Rainman

“why not avoid getting so invested in a total stranger on the internet using the words you laid out?”

Well CC, why not avoid getting invested in a total stranger on the internet so much that you have to resort to name calling and vile insults?

Frankie Coffeecakes

Lets be friends? Its squarely with you Pedro, as the instigator of the very behaviour you now condone. You set up an environment of Pro-Wenger versus Oppose-Wenger and now you actually have the audacity to call out the behaviour? You are so disingenuous, vehemently so. Enjoy the culture you have fostered, its has you written all over it as the architect.

Rainman

Well I really like this blog, so it’s more the blog I’m invested in and not total strangers on the internet. People calling each other names on a blog where we are supposed to be fans of the same club kinda ruins the experience and I guess that’s why Pedro is asking for a bit more friendliness. It’s possible to get a point across without insulting, even if some posters do deserve it.

Good Post Pedro. The sad reality is a leopard never changes its spots, sometimes its best to read the comments and laugh. Its hilarious seeing fans who started supporting Arsenal 10 yrs ago disrespecting other fans who have been season ticket holders for 20-30 yrs. Have not commented foe awhile. Rebuilding takes time. Using young players, allowing them to make mistakes to grow is part of the uncomfortable deal. Pulling Ramsey’s contract offer; though leaving the door open for his agent; building a system that the depth of the squad invest and believe, grows with time and is a credit to the new manager. And management! Change does not happen over night. Right now I’m into the gooner half filled glass with confidence gaining toward the program. Beats the crap out of the last few years. Be well

The “offside” rule where it leaves interpretation of what’s “interfering” or not is a total nonsense at present. I understand it principally, idea being a ball not intended for player X (who is offside), but for player Z can be allowed because of a lack of interference. But you’ll have to go a long way to explaining the sensible application of that rule in the penalty area – it only becomes sensible further from goal.
