Emery missing the point of THAT fan chant in best possible way

by .

WELBZ via @Arsenal insta

Well good morning, I’ve had a wonderful time with a lot of WordPress fuckery, so if you notice anything odd, outside my opinions, please e-mail in and let me know. ALSO, if there are any WordPress experts out there, I am thinking about redesigning the website. It’s really sloppy I haven’t in so long. Drop me a note if you’re interested.

So, I think we’re making progress with Uli Hoeness of Bayern Munich. The man-child finally admitted he took things too far with ol’ Mesut when he described his abilities.

“I should not have said sh*t’

Well, there’s somethi…

‘…but crap,”

“My opinion of Mesut is clear: I wanted to make a point of diverting the conversation back towards sport. I wanted to divert it away from racism and integration.”

What a fucking awful thing to say. I’m not fan of Mesut these days, but saying he said Mesut was shit because he wanted to divert the conversation from something important, like racism in sport, is heavily Trumpian. Would he have said it pre-2016, probably not. But society has now fully regressed to the good old days of saying what you want and no one really giving a fuck is the thing.

I know what some of you are thinking, ‘Pete is just so fucking woke he’s not slept for 4 days.’ Come on… this isn’t arguing the merits of gender neutrality in everyday discourse. This is a furious old man unwilling to discuss legitimate causes that impact people on a daily basis.

Can’t he just stfu and talk about how he’s going to sign Arsene Wenger to replace Niko Kovač. I made a joke about it yesterday, but there are rumours floating that an announcement is coming. 6th in the table with that squad is shocking even if you are only 7 games in, but Arsene Wenger to the rescue? It’s f*cking banter. Mind you, not as banterful as Madrid signing Lopetegui when Sam Allardyce was available.

I’ll tell you who is a decent chap, Unai Emery. He was asked about the now infamous chant at Fulham.

“I am not agreeing totally with the response of the supporters,”

“I think we need to improve a lot. I think we have to continue doing a lot of the things to get better.

“Our demands need to be very high. The supporters can enjoy it with us but also we’re speaking with our reality every day. We need to improve because for example the match against Fulham was a very good result and a very good game for 90 minutes, but in the first 45 minutes I thought we needed to do better.”

Now, firstly, I think it’s great that Emery doesn’t think Arsenal are back. Ballague reckons the coaching staff is attributing a lot of our success down to great keeping from Cech, and I know the backroom team is under no illusions that top 4 is going to be easy this season. We’re riding a wave, the hope is that things start to click and we can ride it some more.

Where I think the coach is struggling a bit is that he doesn’t quite understand the chant. The fans weren’t singing ‘we think we’re title contenders’, I think they were singing that they felt the club had been restored to something that was recognisable as a sporting entity on and off the pitch.

Arsenal stopped being Arsene FC this year. The club is now being run to win. The fans can all see that huge strides are being taken all over the place to make sure we’re in a constant cycle of betterment.

We’re a long way off, but at least now, for every mistake that happens, there will be a consequence. If a player is out of form, he’ll not play. If we have a player that doesn’t perform consistently, they won’t be given a new deal and they’ll be sold. If there are clear gaps in the squad, they’ll be filled within 10 years. If we have fitness issues, there will be a real investigation. There will be no rebranding of failure. Forget your Top 4 trophy and the pathetic projects used to deflect from the club lacking ambition. We’re trying to be a real power player.

That’s what having your Arsenal back is. Knowing the club care as much about future success as you do.

Well, those are my two pennies anyway, if you don’t like it, you’re not shit, but you’re certainly crap.

Back to Emery, he’s focused on making sure we play better than we did against Watford.

“If we are remembering the last match at the Emirates [against Watford], we won but not playing like we want, with the control against the opposition. For me now, the most important thing is not to rush.

Interesting that he notes we shouldn’t rush. Maybe that’s reference to the goals that we tend to concede early on in games. If anything, I’ve found our general pace of play very slow and methodical. Hopefully, the spirit of that second half against Fulham can shine through on Monday. Fast, incisive, and absolutely clinical. That said, Leicester has a lot of good players, and pace to burn.

“The next game against Leicester is very big, very difficult. Leicester are a very good team and play with a clear identity under Claude Puel. They are very competitive, have very good players and we need every single player, and our mentality together to be stronger than in the last match.”

Harry Mcguire at the back post is a big worry, no doubt. Outside that, they’re just a really solid team that’s organized and capable of an upset. We have to be on our game. I’m hoping the extra few days training might give us an edge.

Questions will still buzz over whether Ramsey will start, the manager giving nothing away.

“I want his performance like the other players,”

“For example, in the last match he started on the bench, then he played 25 minutes with this performance. On Monday it’s the same if he starts in the first XI or on the bench, to come with the focus for this match to help. It’s not different [than it is] for other players.”

It’s a bit of nonsense that we’ve got to play the following Thursday in Europa. Sporting are currently 5th. Regardless, that’ll be a tough game away from home after the international break. No doubt there will be some strong rotation in order.

Right, that’s me done. See you in the comments. x

P.S. Read this if you’re still thinking xG is footballing hipsterism.

Sorry if you can’t take the truth but up until the Fulham game we have been fortunate and ,as I said earlier , I hope it continues.

We still haven’t really sorted out the defensive side of things ,Torriera is a gem but can’t do it all himself .
I have said all along that we will score goals with the offensive players in the squad and I am surprised ,along with quite a few others on here ,that the manager hasn’t set the team up to play with more discipline as we are regularly open to the counter attack.
Anyone on here who says that they are happy at how we are set up defensively is a liar.

And I’m not having that the reason for our defensive problems are down to the former manager.
Emery has been playing Ramsey ahead of Lacazette which takes him out of the midfield completely…..I’m sure Lacazette can press from the front leaving Ramsey of whoever at CAM to link up play instead of being redundant defensively.

The 2 full backs are often in the opposition area or thereabouts at the same time….
So you have the 2 full backs up there ,Ramsey (CAM) up there ,Lacazette up there ,Aubamayang up there,ozil/ Mhkitaryan up there ……that leaves xhaka and Torriera plus 2 centre backs to cover the counter attack .

These are serious concerns that unless rectified, we will be found out .
Emery is fortunate that he has taken over a squad with top class strikers and so far a combination of bad finishing by the opposition and exceptional finishing by our strikers have seen us win games.

Marc and Marko ,I’m sure your concerns are no different to mine if you are honest enough to admit it.
It’s fantastic that we are within touching distance of the top but unless we tighten up at the back we will struggle in the league in the same way that we have for the last ten years.

    Pierre

You do realise that Unai hardly knows the players (until now). He must have assumed that he was capable of playing upfront. Ramsey only demonstrated this once with his Hollywood goal vs Fulham.

Why are you trying to be so negative with Unai when you were so lenient with AW in his latter years. He has hardly been a season with us yet you have these high hopes of him making us perfect. I wonder why you do. … this surely means that you could see the crapfest that AW has layed before us in his last 10 years.

And PS: what’s your answer to buddying up with this fucking racist piece of shit that Stefanof14 is. Do you feel proud to have him as one of your online mates? Or will you join me in reveiling a turd that has no place at The Arsenal?

  3. Dissenter

Pierre switched on his analytical brain …just as soon as Wenger left.
He’ll blame Kroenke, the referees, individual players, the grass, snow, fans, ….. except Wenger.

Your post reeks of hypocrisy and ulterior agenda

  4. Marko

Marc and Marko ,I’m sure your concerns are no different to mine if you are honest enough to admit it.

Shame you had no concerns under the previous manager. It’s weird you have concerns about his predecessor…ahem

  5. TheLegendaryDB10

    No worries mate.

Your punishment is to go back to the school of Bamford… I mean Harvard, where you have to write a 1000 times that your name is “Marco” (like Marco Polo) and not Marko. OK?

  6. Pierre

    DB10
Have a look back at the comments over the last few weeks if you want to see abusive comments …..I’m talking about Joe aimed at me ,but that’s ok is it …

Stefano ,I would take all day long over Joe and a few others who have said more disgusting things to/about me than anything Stefano has said on here.

There are ,I believe,a lot of people who read the comments on here but don’t post comments themselves ……they know ……

Water off a ducks back as far as I’m concerned.

On the football side ,I am not being negative just honest …I often criticised wenger, mainly for playing Ramsey in a 2 man midfield and continually playing giroud up front amongst other things .

If Emery tightens things up defensively then fine …if he leaves Ramsey out then even better…I like ozil but if he can’t hack it then leave him out but I’m hoping Emery can bring the best out of him.
If he bloods some of the kids then great ,give them a chance ,see how they get on .

  7. Bamford10

    Marko

Pierre is one of these guys who thinks the “Wenger out” crowd are the worst thing that has ever happened to Arsenal Football Club. He’ll be here defending dipshit and trying to prove dipshit’s critics wrong until the end of time.

  8. TheLegendaryDB10

    Pierre

Water off a ducks back as far as I’m concerned.

So you would rather side with a racist than with an over the top Gooner?

Your choice there (for everyone to see) but not mine.

I know Joe can go overboard (more often than not) but at least he shows passion. Yes he has a serious itch agsinst AKB’s but how can one blame him when at the end of the day he has the club’s concern at heart first and foremost.

Wouldn’t you agree? Or would you rather be painted as someone supporting racists?

  9. Bamford10

    Pierre

That’s complete nonsense. One, Stefano is only here to bully & abuse Wenger critics. He is here for no other reason & he does nothing else.

Two, you’re an admitted troll here, so while I agree that some of the abuse you’ve received is beyond the pale, it is also somewhat deserved and to be expected.

  10. Joe

    I often criticised wenger

    Hahahahahahahah

    Bollocks

Pierre is a xenophobe which he proved with some comments last week

I’m sure he’s a racist too like his buddy stefanie

He can’t wait for Emery to fail

He said “ be careful what you wish for rings true” about 5 weeks ago

He is the worst thing about wenger’s reign at arsenal. He created fans like Pierre

  11. Dissenter

    Bamford
You just provided a diamond encrusted red herring to Wenger lovers with the uneccesary depiction of Wenger as “dipshit”.
It distracts from whatever you were trying to say.

  12. Bamford10

    Pedro

I agree with you, btw, re Emery’s objection to the fan song. “We have much, much improving to do,” he said. This is absolutely correct — and it is in direct contradiction to that Pollyanna lot here who think there is nothing to criticize and that we are as good as we will need to be. We are not — not even close.

  13. Marko

I suppose it’s pretty easy for Pierre to overlook all the vile shit aubergine has been saying on here because it’s not like it’s been directed at him or about Wenger

  14. Champagne charlie

Banford still asserting what others believe, class has ended pal give up the lecturing. For the life of me I don’t get the catalyst for your inflated sense of self, bang average human on the face of what you’ve shared on here over time. Admirable in many a sense, probably strut out the house every morning like the Donald.

  15. Bamford10

    Dissenter

I have been referring to Wenger as “dipshit” or as “a dipshit” here for several years now. I am not going to stop doing so because a couple of former AKBs would like people to be nice to the man. Wenger is and was a dipshit. Do you need to be reminded of all of the dipshit things he said and did? I would hope not. In referring to him as “dipshit,” I am simply calling him by an appropriate name.

Also, where did you get this idea that former AKBs make the rules for discourse around here?

Jesus Christ. No one should have less say than this lot.

  16. China

    Sigh Bamford

Please do name one person is has actually said that we are already good enough and don’t need to improve at all

Please be my guest and name one

Have a good think about it lad

  17. Pedro

    Aubergine is gone.

If you see his comment, let me know. But I deleted him, spammed him, he shouldn’t be on here.

    Cheers, Pete.

  18. Joe

    China

I know we are the finished article yet

But I am over the moon with a 9 match winning streak. We could lose to Leicester and I’d still be stoked as I know Emery will work at fixing what went wrong instead of blaming the handrake, being jaded, horse pills, the ref, the pitch, the fans, his zipper, the media, sun rising in the east, etc etc etc

  19. CaliGooner

Monday games are dumb. Mostly because I can’t see them because I’m at work and don’t have the discipline to not check the score and wait to watch on dvr. The Thursday away turnaround is downright irresponsible though.

    Good morning from Doha.

We are seen as brothers in arms on here by the “pompous two faced ones” ,as I now like to call them, mainly because we harp on about how truly bad Wenger was prior to Emery’s arrival. We always take the bait because these same people, who stood religiously by Wenger, are now amazingly questioning Emery because things “don’t look right”. Lol!!!!

They cannot accept that, in a ten year period, Wenger single handedly held the club back and made us into a laughing stock. They feel we obsess over Wenger, when infact it is they who are the true obsessives. I always shake my head in disbelief and lol when they counter with their ludicrous counters, you know the ones. “The team always comes first” or, one of my all time favourites, “we also wanted Wenger out but, come on, we must support the lads”.

However, it is when they really push the boat out by saying “We must respect Wenger for his efforts from 1996-2006” that gets my goat. You see, I DID respect him for that, which they don’t believe, but once he started taking the piss and arrogantly disrespected us as fans , my respect for him ended.

I, like yourself, really like Emery because I see the difference. I also feel the difference around the club. At last we have a true coach at the helm, someone who you know won’t accept second best(fourth best?) and will strive to give the fans what they want.

A team and a club that we can all be proud of once again.

What is Unai Emery like? His English is not perfect yet, but he seems like a very focused man, someone who is obsessed with football, somebody who has a lot of respect from his players. What is he like to deal with?

VV: We were just having lunch with him so sorry we were a few minutes late. I’ve never met anyone who works as hard as Unai. He is always in his office. He is committed, he is driven , he works hard, he’s focused on making sure we are squeezing every last bit of quality we can out of the squad. He also has great sense of humour. He understands this club and the responsibility of leading a great club like this.

RS: I am so proud of the way we conducted the appointment of a new manager. We followed a disciplined process. We identified several candidates. We conducted an internal exercise to identify what we were looking for – tactics, people skills, youth development. I am very proud that we got to talk with very high level coaches of different nationalities. Unai covered all the dimensions that we wanted at the highest level. Because of the process being so disciplined, I have strong feeling that we made the right decision and we are very pleased with him.

We need another Lucas Torreira type of player.

Apparently West Ham is interested in Welbeck. If so, why don’t we offer Welbeck in return for Declan Rice? He plays the same role for his team that LT does for us and the boy has years ahead of him… in return West Ham get a proven EPL player.

West Ham might not go for it but this would shore up our middle with bite and youth and it would give Eddie Nketiah a platform to come in and showcase what he can do.

If Welbeck wanted to stay but Declan Rice would be a good buy in January because LT won’t be able to play every game.

“Venkatesham on Stan & Josh Kroenke: ‘They are very very, very clear – they are 100% committed to this club, want to get the club back in the Champions League, back competing for Premier League & competing to win the Champions League. They’re 100% committed behind that vision.’ ” – @gurjitAFC

Decent first game after the international break in a couple hours.

We should probably want Chelsea and Utd to draw 0-0, but there’s little I would enjoy more than watching Utd get stuffed by 3 (or more!) goals.

  29. Bamford10

Sarri-ball looks great in terms of passing and movement, but United’s deep-sit is frustrating them. Would help to have a good #9, but Morata is not the guy at the moment.

  30. Jeff

Afternoon going well so far. If Tottenham lose as well that will be fine. Can Burnley also get something from the Man City game? Maybe asking too much.

  31. nepGunner

United drew at the Chavs. Two direct competitors have dropped points.

Some Chav ran across Mourinho after the late late equalizer from Barkley and really wind him up crazy. That was so sweeeeetttttt.

While the intellects of LG are discussing if we should call a cunt, a cunt or not? Well here’s the truth. A cunt is a cunt no matter how you try to dress him/her up. So STFU cunts.

  32. nepGunner

United drew at the Chavs. Our two direct opponents dropped points there.

One Chav just ran across Mourinho and wind him up real good after Barkley’s late late equalizer. It was reeaal sweeetttt.

Flying back to the UK tonight after a week in Qatar.

    Worked here between 1992-1998.

    Wow, what a change.

The 2022 WC, should it go ahead, will certainly make interesting viewing.

  35. Pierre

I sometimes wonder if Emery has been reading my posts on here ….gradually the mistakes in tactics, personnel, and formation that I pointed out from the first few games are now being eradicated.

These are the areas I wanted changed.

1)stop playing out from the back at all costs with cech..
    2)Lacazette to start
    3) torriera to start
    4) Ramsey out
5)don’t play the CAM ahead of the striker.
    6) no man to man marking at corners.

I’m pleased to say that he seems to be following my advice …just need now for Emery to tell.the full backs not to be so adventurous and pick and choose when to support the attack so we don’t get caught o the counter and then that will be the full house …

If anyone doubts my word then have a check back …..

  36. Receding Hairline

Unlike others who wanted to send someone else to fight his battles

What a man that poster is.

    Can’t wait for Monday!

  38. london gunner

That Pierre guy really is a fool.

Criticizes Emery and expects perfection after 10 or so games, whilst giving Wenger a million one chances. Pierre your agenda is so obvious you aren’t kidding anyone.

Fuck off and support whatever side Wenger ruins next.

  39. Joe

    London

    Not only that

Pierre called out stefanie to fight his battles and got him banned

Well done Pierre. You’re such a man!

Can see him standing behind 10 dudes yelling shit at people and then running away when shit starts up

  40. Pierre

Hey receding ……do me a favour and don’t address me in the future as there is nothing ,and I mean nothing that you would say that would interest me in the slightest…

  41. Pierre

It’s all there in black and white and gradually Emery,to his credit ,is coming around to my way of thinking …… Just needs to tighten it up at the back ….

  42. Receding Hairline

Hey receding ……do me a favour and don’t address me in the future as there is nothing ,and I mean nothing that you would say that would interest me in the slightest…

Nothing you say seems to interest anyone here yet u keep at it so don’t tell me who i can and can’t address

  43. Jamie

If Emery was following Pierre’s way of thinking, he’d be lying about his age in a pathetic attempt to gain some respect from, and seniority over, strangers on a football blog.

    Embarrassing.

  44. Pierre

I like Graham 62 …he may have completely different opinions to me but he comes on here for the same reason as I do …..

All this buddying up with Joe is just a wind up ….Graham wouldn’t be seen dead with you joe.

  45. TheLegendaryDB10

    Pierre

    Completely deluded post.

I think Emery is not that stupid. He is still trying to find his footing with the current crop of players. Like anyone else in a new job you have to get a grip with your new surroundings and it’s current environment. Nothing happens in a click of a finger. He is trying things out and see us it works. If it doesn’t after a few games he moves on.

But by the way you have been writing about from the start of the season you were expecting changes to be immediate.

Strange then that you were happy to allow AW to spend the last 10 years without doing anything significant to improve the team and allowed regression to take hold in every corner of the club.

    Hypocrisy springs to mind.

  46. Pierre

yes Jamie you have me sussed…

I come on le grove to gain respect by giving a completely different view to the majority and then get verbally abused by them …..seems like a strange way to get respect if you ask me….

  47. mysticleaves

Lopetugui about to be sacked..his players are not necessarily bad but lost one too many and have lost all confidence. In the next match, they could easily have another hattrick of bars than score a winner.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Man utd Chelsea game. For the first time I was rooting for Jose to win. But I think I was even more glad they drew.

  48. Jamie

    Pierre –

It is strange, we agree. And ineffective. You didn’t think it through, though. You blurted out that you had been an Arsenal supporter for 50 odd years thinking us strangers on le-grove would buy it and give you some sort of ‘credit’.

Now you’re married to masquerading as an old man or you’d have to admit you’ve been telling porkies about your age since the beginning.

No one believes you’re 60+ years old, mate.

  49. mysticleaves

‘Fantastic match from Martial. Wish we had him at Arsenal.’

On the back of this match I wouldn’t want him as our wing option. No penetration, no dribble, no proper usage of speed. He was fortunate for the 1st goal and almost fucked up the second goal. Good player though but needs to consistently show more.

  50. nepGunner

    Unai listening to you Pierre?

I wish Wenger had listened to you for the last 10 years. It would have been a win win for all concerned.

BTW City thrashed Burnley 5-0. I guess that was routine for a top 6 side…or maybe a master class from a handsomely put together Pep side?

  51. Freddie Ljungberg

Reiss Nelson scored a brace tonight in a 3-1 win against Nurenhem.

Makes it 4 in 4 for him now, pretty impressive, hope he keeps on developing, would save us a lot of cash.

  52. nepGunner

Freakin Spuds went above us today.

Cant wait for Monday to have our season back on track again by putting the chickens where they belong..somewhere below us.

These int’l breaks are real killers in terms of momentum of PL form and continuity. Let’s hope the boys appreciate we can be level on 21 points with the Chavs and just two points adrift City (and possibly Pool). Then we have the chance to level it out with the unbeaten (so far) bindippers and see where we stand…And united could be 7 points behind us…another freakin reason to absolutely smash Leceister

    Bring it on!
