Emery hitting the incremental good vibes, right?

Oh man, I’ve had a week of fuck ups… I totally failed yesterday. I tried to make an aggressive point about xG. I used the right data, but I mistakingly tried to credit the origin… but put the wrong tweet in its place.

My argument was sound, but my data inaccurate. I deserved the ‘you’ve lost all credibility’ commentary that proceeded the post.

Anyway, today is another day. Bernd Leno is talking to the press like he’s peak Johann Djourrou.

Now Petr is injured – I don’t know how long for – I have the opportunity to play more games and show the coach my quality,”

“It is a big chance for me.

“I don’t want to say it wrong that I am happy for Petr to be injured. I think always it is a bad feeling, so I feel sorry for him.

“But, now I have more opportunities to play and I will concentrate on the games.”

Good for you Bernd. It’s marv to read that you’ll concentrate and I’m glad you’re not too excited about the unfortunate hamstring injury of Petr Cech.

I liked what I saw in the second half against Watford. He’s a real sweeper keeper, he opens space for the defence because he wants the ball, his passes are more ambitious and he’s very flexible in playing short or long. I think his shot-stopping leaves a lot to be desired, but hopefull,y he’ll grow into the role and cement his place in the first team.

Bolton lad, Rob Holding let the fans know what Emery has to say about football.

“He said when he came in that he wanted to bring a winning mentality and you get that from wins and going into each game confident.

“It was a competitive and physical game and we knew that coming in. We just had to stand up to the battle.”

Fucking inspirational shit right there. If you win, confidence breeds like jackrabbits on a sunny meadow. He’s right, football is a simple game. You win, life is good… you lose, carnage can be just around the corner. I really like Holding. He’s been great in the last two games, he’s fast, great on the ball, and he’s a tough bastard because he’s from the north. Hopefully he’ll retire Mustafi.

Unai Emery: El Maestro, is being published by the very talented Romain Molina. You might remember his exciting take on the Spaniard when we hired him this summer. It’ll be a very interesting read, the author seems the type who is very into the details of football, versus the panto-esque nonsense a lot of our journos are about. Hopefully there’s a chapter about how shite football comes good, and shithousery being the path to tika-taka righteousness.

Finally, we only went and done another podcast. Aash, Pete and Matt chatting good tings about the Arsenal. Tune in, I felt chipper after the episode!

One of wenger’s more perceptive comments was “confidence is very slow to gain but very quick to lose “….or something like that…..true though.

George

Pedro
Have you ever played the Devil’s Triangle ‘drinking game’?

Pierre

We are at the crossroads where the confidence is building amongst the team and the fan base and expectations are rising due to our run of victories.

There Will be setbacks but it will be how we react to these setbacks that Will determine how strong the manager and team are.
Under wenger ,a defeat was normally a prelude to a negative run of results and performances, our confidence level was always too fragile .

Wallace

definitely rode our luck at times on this unbeaten run, but I’m enjoying life under Emery. we’re working harder, looking a little less fragile, and while structurally things haven’t changed as much as I’d anticipated, the gap between Xhaka & Torreira and the forward line can still be yawning, we have played some very easy on the eye, incisive football.

Wallace

Lacazette looks far more aggressive and dangerous than in his first season, and wondering if maybe this could be Iwobi’s breakout year. on the downside, not sure playing Aubameyang on the left is going to last much longer, and Ramsey definitely not thriving in his new role.

HighburyLegend

“Aaron, look out there, do you see this door ?? Ok, you will past it, and you never come back here, thanks and farewell.”

Pierre

I agree, when we put it together those spells in the game the football is good to watch.

We seem to be a side atm that changes with a flick of a switch..nothing’s happening, the team shape looks all over the place and then from nowhere we string a few good moves together and score a couple of goals.

Not sure if that is great tactical planning or what but I will say that when we are in and around the box we look very dangerous due to the large numbers we are getting forward.

Leedsgunner

Ramsey was apparently offered a £91m, 5 year deal by Ivan Gazidas — *choke*

Well done to Raul and Sven for saying no.

Pierre

I think the new fitness programme is benefiting Lacazette and iwobi as they both look leaner and fitter to me.

Black Hei

Pierre

Lol, you sure about the lean portion?

They look like buff daddies to me.

Steveyg87

“I think the new fitness programme is benefiting Lacazette and iwobi as they both look leaner and fitter to me.” I think last season Iwobi’s undoing was that he was indecisive on the ball and in general making bad choices, fast forward to this season and he’s all about making shit happen as quickly as possible, I don’t think many were slating his technical ability or physicality. Emery 100% had a chat to him about this, lets hope he carries on with the this progressive trend. It’s good seeing the club move forward even though many on here would disagree,… Read more »

Wenger never won anything in Europe for 22 years having some epic teams. Give Emry few seasons and TW and we will see. And team looks better than last few Wenger seasons. No capitulation or epic defeats yet.

Jamie

VicVic

“That Emery is good can only confirm Wenger is also good.”

Strange false-equivalence. Wenger has won exactly zero European titles to Emery’s 3.

If it takes Emery 12 years from today to win 3 FA cups, then yeah, Emery is no better than Wenger.

rollen

not sure old good Arsene would win all 3 throphies in France with PSG. We lost to so many garbage teams lately.

VicVic

I’m still waiting for a guy who will take my theories apart and prove to me that Emery is indeed playing better than Wenger.

Anyone pls?

These other dudes would just sidestep the debate and try to come after your person.

Leedsgunner

“… Emery is just a guy who got lucky with the Europa.”

If Emery had won that competition once you could perhaps make that argument, but three times in a row?

Roberto Di Matteo is a man whom you could say got lucky. He got lucky with the Champion’s League! Had they not won that trophy that year… they would have not won the transfer race to bring Hazard over.

raptora

Cech looked like extremely buff especially comparing him to previous seasons. I like what I’m seeing. To answer this vic vic troll dude. Wenger’s last season or half a season was tragic stuff. There had to be a managerial change and one could say that Wenger delayed that for as much as possible. But that horror end of the year with no win away from home up to the very last round of the EPL was some dark shite. It’s clear that a lot of the players wanted him gone as well. Now, is Emery doing well with everything that… Read more »

Leeds,

‘If Emery had won that competition once you could perhaps

In your view, which is one is more difficult to come by; europa three times in a row or f.a three times almost in a row?

If Emery did well with Europa, Wenger did well with the f.a cups.

But my question still remains:

Is Emery playing better than Wenger????????????

Having in mind that ‘Wenger is not even a coach’.

rollen

Leedsgunner

“In your view, which is one is more difficult to come by; europa three times in a row or f.a three times almost in a row?” In my opinion, a European trophy like the Europa Cup is more prestigious and more difficult to win than a domestic cup. His record is not bulked up by making up the numbers. Emery has end product… all Wenger gave… Read more »

Even by your own criteria Wenger falls short. Emery won the Europa League actually three times in a rwo. Wenger didn’t win the FA Cup three times in a row. He almost did.

Now, Wenger is an irrelevance.

VicVic

The more difficult one to win, given that you could play City, Chelsea, Spuds, Liverpool, ManU before you win the F.A.

Not the glamour attached to the trophy, the teams you play!

VicVic

And wetin dey ‘wow’ you.

Leedsgunner

Vic

What means more to you?

Building a new legacy with Emery or protecting the legacy of Wenger?

I want Emery to succeed because when he does the club succeeds.

For the past 12 years, Wenger succeeded in becoming the most powerful and well paid manager in world football. However, where did that leave the club?

Or put it another way, since 2006, when we lost to Barcelona in the Champions League Final, has Arsenal been left in a stronger state or a weaker state?

Wenger grew stronger but the club grew weaker.

That’s why Wenger had to go.

Joe had the cheek to say last night we were both expressing the same opinion. Leaving aside the obnoxious way he does it, my point is simply that it is way too early to judge Emery and can’t see the reason for the debate now. Emery has inherited Wenger’s mess and is doing a decent job in attempting to reduce the impact of this mess but that is a job that no manager whatever his reputation would have found easy.

My question to you, Dissenter, is this: what, IYO, makes Juventus the bigger club?

I’m not asking this because I disagree with you — they’re definitely the better team at moment and have been for some time — but because I think it would be useful to identify the criteria we use to establish something like this.

Bob N16
