Electric winger on the radar

by .

Xf3MTHhqYE

OK SO I WALKED PAST PIRLO.

Man, what a fucking babe.

That hair is more elite than his career.

Incredible moment. I shared a pavement with him.

Did I consider saying hello? No way. You gotta play it cool. He definitely doesn’t know who I am, but if he saw me again he’d say, ‘great job walking past me, real breezy, let me buy you a beer.’

I spent some time at the weekend watching a bit of PSG vs Rennes. Thomas Tuchel’s side isn’t clicking quite yet, but it was interesting watching Rennes. They have a young squad with a highly rated coach. Their stadium was packed and very loud. One of their star kids coming through is Ismaila Sarr. He’s tall, fast and a reminded me a little of an early days Dembele (who is about the same age). Anyway, we’re being linked with a move for him by The Mirror.

Seems highly likely we’d be interested in him, we’re really lacking explosive pace and skill out wide from someone who knows the job. Could be an exciting move if he carries on his trajectory. He has 3 goals in 7 matches this season. Last season he managed 5 goals and 5 assists in 27 games. Not bad considering he had an injury that kept him out for 3 months (be real, the injury makes him more appealing to us)

Petr ‘great hands’ Cech trash talked Wenger.

What? He did.

“What we lacked in the past – I would say the ‘Arsenal way’ was more important than getting the points sometimes, and this is not how you win the league,”

“Sometimes you need to make sure you win an ugly game, when you are not playing completely well but you just dig deep, close the back door and win 1-0 no matter how.”

Fair shout, there’s no doubt that Emery knows how to win a game ugly, he’s done it five times on the bounce. Now, do I desire sexy? Yes. But let’s not pretend Wenger was winning ugly or sexy. Arsenal has been a drab ship of misery for 10 years.

These words on preparation were music to my ears.

“It comes from the preparation, the everyday work and from the manager’s way of playing the game as well,” Cech said. “We work very hard every day to give ourselves the chance to compete with everybody and hopefully it will be working even better than it has been for the last four games.

“He is very demanding and this is how you improve. I think the place has become much more demanding in every way so this is great to see because this is what initially drives everybody forward and gives you the kind of kick that ‘I’m not doing enough to start the game’, or ‘I’m not doing enough to keep my spot in the game’, because the manager asked for precision and hard work every day. This is how it should be. We have very healthy competition and we are actually taking the benefit of it.”

FEED ME THE GOODNESS OF A MODERN MANAGER.

There was a half-interesting analysis of Ramsey in The Times. It kind of read like the sort of person who’d been given access codes to Opta but only watched 2 of our games in the last year.

‘RAMSEY HAS CREATED SOME CHANCES, the difference? The manager’ <ish

Errr, sure, but the difference is he’s playing as a #10.

The article referenced how Ramsey has more assists and goals than Ozil over the last 30 games. Again, looks great on paper, but Ozil has been a fucking car crash for the last 30 games, struggling with being miserable and having a back problem.

I’d LOVE to think Aaron is a magical #10, but I’m struggling to see that come to fruition. I’m certainly not convinced after two assists (1 accidental) with zero goals to his name. Some say he’d be a nightmare at the base of midfield in the Xhaka role, I’m not so sure. I thought he looked pretty good next to Arteta back in the day. Would it be fair to say Torreira is a little Arteta-ish?

Could be the Xhaka disdain talking, right guys? How can I be so mean to someone who plays so many wonderful balls into the final third!

We’ll see, it’s really not my problem, as long as we keep winning ugly, I’ll have to keep my big mouth shut.

That said, after being pilloried for daring to say I can’t see the vision Emery is offering, people are dropping that same line everywhere. It’s like I cleared the way. The Guardian and The New York Post piped up with similar musings.

Brentford are up on Wednesday, should be a grudge match after they beat us convincingly in preseason. Emery will want to avenge the savaging, and he’ll no doubt want to give Leno a nervous twitch by forcing him to keep a clean sheet and bag and assist. Should be fun.

Right, that’s all I have today, thanks for popping by. Listen to my damn podcast.

Brentford will be more of a test than the europa game last week.

Big ,strong.physical side who will bring many fans and will really be looking to get a result ….maybe a good game to attend as I can see it being a good competitive match.

Samesong

Brentford are doing well in the championship fancy them to reach the playoffs.

HighburyLegend

For an “electric winger”, it’s pretty logical to be “on the radar”.
Ah ah.
(sorry)
(Ramsey out)
(Ozil out)
(Mustafi out)
(Have a nice day)

I don’t normally watch all these football awards or care, but what’s the difference between the best player of the year and the ballon D’or ??

Guns of Hackney

There is one guarantee. No arsenal bastard will be on a world player of the year award.

Fact. Guns out.

Ps. It’s fucking freezing in the midlands. Went for a ride. Cold hands and feet. Unhappy.

HighburyLegend

And no Arsenal coach either.
(lol)

lari03

Last week it was Nicholas Pepe, this week it is Ismaila Sarr; transfer media frenzy.

gonsterous

There is one guarantee. No arsenal bastard will be on a world player of the year award.

nothing special about that. Same can be said of over 2000 clubs around the world.

Josip Skoblar

The real electric winger plays for Lille and his name is Nicolas Pepe. Barca, ManU and Arsenal are all linked to him. He’s brilliant.

Dissenter

***There is one guarantee. No footballer playing in England will win the. world player of the year award.
Guns out and Guns stay away till he sorts out his pathetic moaning.
You deserve your misery for your cun*ines and I hope it gets colder in the midlands. 🙂
You rightfully moaned you way thorug( the last 10 years of Wenger.
This current maoning is your choice, it’s like you’re permanently conditioned to whine a and lament.

HighburyLegend

Salah not in the world team of the year…
That says a lot about how ridiculous this kind of awards are.

Dissenter

It must take a lot for Cech to say what he said of Wenger. He’s only the universally accepted good professionals in the league.
It’s understandable since he does not have the same emotional ties with the man. I wonder how Cech felt when Wenger forced a useless goalkeeping coach (Gerry Payton) on him whereas Chelsea had allowed him to keep his own coach.

HighburyLegend

“ManU and Arsenal are all linked to him. ”

I wonder which of those clubs he will choose…

Dissenter

The FIFA team of the year was just plain ridiculous without Salah and Kevin De BRuyne.
Utterly ridiculous award. I’m embarrassed that I’ve commented about it twice now.

@Dissenter : Gary Payton was an NBA player, what the hell are you talking about ??

Dump Ramsey from the first team. .

Rid of Elneny, Welbeck, as well as those on loan like Ospina, Chambers

Clear senior ‘kids’ in the first team squad who aren’t good enough.

Hopefully, get 2 to 3 who could compete for the first 11 during the Jan TW.

I did some work to cover probably a third of Xhaka’s mistakes in the EPL’s 2017/18 season. This is what I came up with. 1-st round vs Leicester at home, 29-th minute for their second goal https://lasthl.com/arsenal-vs-leicester-city-week-1/2/ This one is shared between Elneny and him because the Egyptian needlessly puts him under too much pressure. That said, he completely panics and plays it blind deep in his own half. Another situation is for the corner that Leicester score their 3-rd goal where he is first ballwatching, and then vs Mahrez he just looks like a person with a gigantic hangover.… Read more »

I’m sorry but you have me confused. I’ve never really gotten British humor.

I hope that helps clear the boozy fog from your mind.

Why don’t you send the.links to the Arsenal FC.coaches. I’m sure that their video editing coaches are on extended vacation.

United won’t allow the Sanchez situation to continue for too long. I believe it should cost Mourhino his job since he pushed for it.
They will renogotiate his contract, probably move him out and pay the balance of his wages.
I’m not sure we can afford to that with Ozil.

Dissenter

HighburyLegend
It’s not your fault I’m a humorless gnome.

UTarse

I hope our pathetic management have learnt from the Ozil experience. There need to be clauses in such massive contracts. Ozil can pretty much down tools for the next 3 years and collect a cool £50m. Fucking ridiculous and doesn’t exist in other highly rewarded jobs. wtf? High pay should be connected to achievement.

Dissenter, That’s re Charlie claiming that Marko had overblown Xhaka’s mistakes. Marko’s opinion was very well put and true and really no one with a pair of eyes should say otherwise. “He’s not really combative more occasionally dirty you saying reasonably well aware is about as close to you saying he’s not aware and as far as physical presence is concerned I will admit that he’s tall. Also his defensive input isn’t overblown in the slightest because some of his actions actually lead to goals his lack of awareness his positioning they all hinder the team I would argue that… Read more »

I mean – give me a Cesc, Santi to help with moving the ball forward from our own half any day of the year, compared to Xhaka’s type of footballer. It’s not a coincidence that there are literally almost no other players like him. It’s a “specialist” footballer in a time where you have to be good at everything. To be a top player as a specialist you have to be absolutely top notch at what you’re doing but still have good quality in your all-round game. Kroos and Jorginho are the two names that come to mind but especially… Read more »

Marko

At this stage it’s pointless debating Xhaka. Arsenal fans pundits commentators and football writers heck anyone who’s watched us play the last two plus seasons knows what he’s like and what he’s about and a handful of people who still defend him continue to be wrong. These discussions usually happen after he has a somewhat decent half of football or when he scores a rare goal. The two best teams at the moment have De Bruyne and Keita to move the ball forward as fast as possible. We have a freaking quarterback. We will not shorten the distance to City and Pool with him in our team. It’s no coincidence that Wenger somehow always managed to finish in top 4. All until a certain Swiss came along.

Bamford10

Marko

Agreed. Except for the bit about Ramsey; even those here who defend him admit that he was generally poor on Sunday. Paulinho argued that he was more impactful than people were giving him credit for, but that’s not quite the same thing as saying he had a good game.

HighburyLegend

“Ozil can pretty much down tools for the next 3 years ”

He already begun since a while.

Marko

Bam I have no real interest in wasting another day talking about Xhaka or Ramsey and their general effectiveness compared to how wank they are. What I will say is that you and Paulinho on Ramsey are as bad as Charlie on Xhaka. You’re all literally the same. And there’s nothing wrong with how you guys feel you’re all just kind of wrong about these players. You’ll see this eventually when said players are replaced with better fully functional CM’s

Bamford10

Well, I agree that another day on that topic would be a day wasted, but I don’t agree that we are the same as somebody is on Xhaka. The two players are very different, as are the arguments made in defense of them. However, it’s not all that important.

Marko

The squad is the squad and we can’t do anything about it now so these problem players will continue to play because who else is there. The question should be should we at the nearest available opportunity get rid of Xhaka? I say yes to improve the midfield. Should we give Ramsey a new contract or allow him to leave on a free? Nah you’re basically the same. You make arguments for playing someone who isn’t good enough and who hinders us as a competitive club. Both are inconsistent and non-existent on the defensive side and substitute runs into the box with sprayed passes to the full backs and the arguments are the same

UTarse

Leeds,
No return for any player associated with the dismal recent Wenger period. This club won’t move on till we fully cleanse and replace with players that are hungry, motivated to win and not just collect massive salaries and selfie in ridiculous fashion wear.

Marko

Sanchez should never have left that should have been Ozil but in saying that no I wouldn’t have him back. On the offensive side of things only legitimate wingers should be targeted. Players with pace dribbling and the ability to beat a man that’s what is missing. Two of them in fact. One either side of Mhiki behind Aubameyang/Lacazette is the way forward

Eduardo

How on earth is Torreira Arteta-ish? Torreira tackles the ball with his head. Can you see the preening narcissist Arteta doing that? Torreira is also much more active and progressive in his style of play. Arteta was a slightly more cultured Denilson or Elneny.

Marko

Yeah I’ve seen Torreira twice in the last few months try to win the ball on the ground with his head. That’s a special kind of loon right there

The whole club is a lick of paint from that of previous years. I see no substantial changes to e perfectly honest, certainly nothing that’s bled it’s way to the pitch. All very minor when we had the option of going truly all guns blazing.

Quality post. I would disagree with Thauvin. He’s struggles against better opposition. He lacks the ability to get to the next level in terms of acceleration on the ball to create or the speed/off the ball movement to run in behind.

We should focus on signing prospects with a high ceiling or top quality. We need to stop spending big money on 7/10 players.
