Ivan G annoying the Arsenal hierarchy (welcome the club, Sir Chips)

by .

IMG_1383

Well, I didn’t realise it was an international break, which is super unfortunate as I’m back in the UK next week.

What also coincides with a really irritating break in the schedule is a total lack of news, so why not re-up the Ivan G story? This from The Times.

Arsenal would almost certainly put Gazidis on gardening leave should he choose to leave to join a European rival despite the fact that he has a 12-month notice period in his contract. Milan’s owners are understood to have offered Gazidis a stake in the club having been taken over this summer by Elliot Management after the former owner Li Yonghong failed to repay a debt to the American company.

Paolo Scaroni, who was deputy chairman of investment bank Rothschild, is the club’s chief executive, but Gazidis has been targeted as a result of his work in nine years at Arsenal. The 53-year-old is also an influential figure in European football as a result of his position on the board of the European Club Association as well as being on several Fifa, Uefa and FA committees.

Arsenal are confident that they have structures in place to enable them to thrive without Gazidis, but his departure would be a blow to Emery, who was appointed on his recommendation with the pair having daily meetings throughout the summer.

As I said the other week, the big difference between Ivan at Arsenal and Ivan at Milan is he’ll be getting a chunk of the club there. If he grows it, he’ll grow his bank balance and retire and even richer old man. Good for him.

Not great for Arsenal though. Apparently, Ivan is on 12 months notice, which seems odd if he’s on a contract, but whatever. The fact that he’s even considering ducking out of the Arsenal project before he’s seen it through is a touch grim, but some people work for greatness, some for the pound notes.

I thought the paragraph at the end was pertinent. Emery certainly has a friend in Ivan G. From what I understand, the rest of the backroom team was impressed by other candidates and I’ve no doubt the ‘we all took a vote’ was an absolute fabrication so Ivan could spread the blame for anything that went wrong with the appointment further down the line.

Now Emery is being cast away into no man’s land. I don’t think that’s very fair. A new CEO comes in, everyone looks to fill the power vacuum, hierarchy changes, favourites get promoted and demoted, it could be a real mess. The big worry for Emery is this… the new CEO is likely going to want to make his own impression, and it’s very unlikely he or she will have loyalty to the Spaniard.

Very shitty. It’s also a kind of shabby that Ivan has let it get so bad that people from within the club are leaking they’re irritated with the process.

Before I leave you, the Nike Colin Kapearnick advert that’s dominating the internet at the moment is quite incredible.

Firstly, well fucking played Nike. The reality is, you invented capitalism for sports shoes. Anyone who thinks it’s a hot take to say Nike is trying to sell their product off an advert needs to have a word with themselves… they’re a publicly traded company, of course they’re trying to sell things. That’s not the point though. The point is, there are easier ways to sell shoes than alienating 40% of America. Nike is backing a modern day civil rights hero, while Jack Dorsey is overruling his staff to keep Alex Jones on his platform. Yep, the guy who runs Twitter is personally fighting to keep a man on his platform who harasses the parents of kids who’ve been massacred by gun violence. Tell me what flavour of capitalism tastes better?

Not a lot of brands have the guts to go against ‘the base’, Nike did. That isn’t brave, I’ll reserve that for people that put their lives on the line for things like forest fires and their country… but it is bold.

Secondly, if you’re the sort of person who burns your trainers or socks because the brand you follow did something you don’t fancy, throw yourself into the sea. You are insignificant. Political correctness is pretending you matter. No one should indulge you.

Thirdly, I know there’s this weird deep-state-ish view of advertising people like we set out to restructure the world around unnecessary consumption, but the reality is this: it’s just a group of creatives boxed up in a room who want to put a brands influence to something that matters. The folk who concocted a campaign that supported a black man who’d lost his playing career age 28-29 for taking the knee for a national anthem wasn’t about profits,  it was about doing something that fucking mattered in this world.

DmMVEk3WsAACHq1

Fair play to those advertising folk. Those that used their jobs to make an impact. The people that pushed their client to take a risk that would change the conversation and maybe have a positive impact.

Right, that’s me done. Listen to the podcast. It’s what you need.

Join Kurtis, Matt and I for a rollercoaster ride of excellent chat.

Also, if you’re a regular reader, don’t be selfish… leave a 5* and a totally terrif review, ok? The least you could do imo.

All throughout history there are those who raise their voice against Establishment . They are instantly character assassinated , I see examples of this every day everywhere. Colin Kaepernick is one of them.

China

Regardless of the whole police vs blacks conversation, a fundamental issue in America is that the police are absolutely watching to pull out that hand gun and show how tough they are There are far far far too many videos of them going in on people for no justified reason, just because they get a kick out of it. Of course there are many good regular police officers but the prevalence of roided up trigger happy police in America is ridiculous I once saw a video of a confused homeless guy wandering the streets without causing any trouble. Police stopped… Read more »

” But a huge amount of the public discourse hasn’t been about police/black murders etc but has instead been a discussion about how it’s awful and unpatriotic not to stand for the anthem.

People are welcome to feel like not standing is a big deal but I have no idea how that bothers them ”

This .

Man you should visit India sometimes . They make you stand for their anthem everytime you watch a movie.

Marko

They have printed the same numbers
Over 1100 shit by police in 2017 a quarter black
Half of them white.

Nearly 74% of Americans are white compared to about 12% black I mean crunch the numbers but yeah why should they feel hard done by.

Dissenter

The NFL controversy isn’t about patriotism. It has to do with the type of nationalistic fervor that the orange buffoon has drummed up.
We all know where nationalism typically ends up at.

InsideRight

Marko, you realise you are including Hispanics in that 74% figure?

Marko

If the worst thing Kaepernick has done is take a knee as a form of protest then I don’t see the problem. It would have died down months ago if it wasn’t for the orange idiot using it as a tool to incite his base. Notice he only ever talks about it at rallys or on Twitter when the news cycle is about something that’s damaging to him. He’s fooling no one but the imbeciles who adore him. He doesn’t care either way

If Ivan goes, there is a ready made football CEO in Monchi, Roma’s present director of football. I’ve mentioned him before, and I’ll mention him again. We should go all out to get him.

Plus he has a proven track record in getting deals done. Emery had a dynamic partnership with him over at Sevilla. There’s where Emery made his name to such an extent PSG was willing to take a risk on him.

Monchi should be our man.

Goodbye Ivan, hello Monchi!

If it were down to straight numbers and black people commit 50% of murders yet they only account for 25% of the shootings then yes, I’d say it’s disproportionately low Add to the fact that in cities like Chicago where black numbers are high and black violent crimes are high that their city is overwhelmingly democrat run with black mayors, black chief of police, black senators and… Read more »

So because whites aren’t protesting like blacks when it comes to police shootings, Blacks shouldn’t? Am I right?

It’s this simple. If you try to fight an armed police officer then you drastically increase your chance of being shot
If you raise a weapon to a police officer then you also increase those chances.

Lesson 101 in stating the obvious, but what of those many ‘blacks’ who have been slain by police with no cause and little to no resistance? Are they allowed to feel hard done by? Because I’m not sure how many black people I’ve seen in uproar in instances other than these.

People can adapt.

If Monchi wants to remain a director of football, ask Raul Sanhllei to the CEO. In one sense what does it matter?

It’s not like the CEO at Arsenal has real substantive power anyways with Kronke Sports Enterprises holding all the cards.

Nike produces their shoes at sweatshops in Vietnam and is giving millions of $$$ to overindulged millionaire athelete to prove how progressive or ‘woke’ they are. I think Nike and Kaepernick are just as appalling as Alex Jones is.

Blacks are responsible for more than 50% of murders and violent crimes. Do you not think that this fact plays no part in their encounters with police officers? I would argue letting every idiot fool and drunk over there have access to weapons and systemic racism as well as demographics would have more to do with it. It’s this simple. Carts I would say the likes of Kaepernick are over simplifying things and making claims that start to come apart on closer scrutiny. Just look at the number of black police officers who used their firearms in those incidents. It’s not a straightforward racial issue. It’s not a straightforward racial issue. I mean it is if it’s unarmed black civilians. You do realize that it’s never been about racism persay but rather police brutality and justice for unlawful killings. I mean good luck trying to address systemic racism in America but if some sort of independent commission was set up to investigate police brutality and was independently run and prosecuted that would probably go some way to addressing the issue. If a cop wants to arrest you, you comply. That’s the law. There doesn’t need to be a struggle or a fight. You follow orders and get handcuffed and there’s no need for aggression or guns to be used. The number of shootings of unarmed people, black or white, would be much lower if people didn’t resist arrest. Blaming the police for their actions in response to the behaviour of suspects doesn’t seem altogether fair.

Guns of Brixton

If a cop wants to arrest you, you comply. That’s the law.

If a cop doesn’t give you a justified reason why they are arresting you then no you don’t have to comply. Police come in different forms those that are very aggresive and inapropriate in their handling than others. Power tripped out cops that think they can over step the mark. They are public servants after all.

Leftsidesanch

Inside and Una,

Again, I’ve not seen people cause uproar when an arrest is justified – that’s not the point that Marko, myself & others have said and you both are aware of this. Marko The number of unarmed black men shot by police officers is extremely low. Yes there are a few racist cops. But it is not an epidemic. Indeed, black men are far more likely to be shot by other black men than they are to be shot by police officers (white or black). There’s also evidence that a higher percentage of white men shot by police are unarmed, compared to black men; and that police are at least as likely, if not more likely, to shoot white suspects than they are to shoot black suspects (for fear of being accused… Read more »
