Emery looks for first win

So I had to miss two days of a stag do because of work. I’ve arrived at what I ‘think’ is the destination, but no one is awake. I’ve let myself into a house with no number. So this could be the last you read of me if I’ve made a mistake and I’m camping out in some random MAGA fanatics house in Nevada.

Buuuut, while I’m here, why not pen a post?

Arsenal take on the mighty Chavs who were going to build a new stadium until their owner had his visa revoked. I mean, not that we can brag, our owner is currently prying shares away from Arsenal fans as he prepares to take the club offline as we move into the Silent Arsenal era.

I digress.

Big things to look out for today.

Cech: the manager stated he believes in his number one after a slightly erratic display on the opening day where he was pushed into taking the most touches of any keeper in the league (54 I think). Rumours are buzzing around the web that the club aren’t impressed with Leno, which is quite a sorry situation considering it was very well known he’d had a shite season. Anyway, it’s Pete at #1 again, let’s see how he rolls.

Midfield: Xhaka was pony against City, so were most of the midfield. Will Emery double down on his faith in that 11 or will we see some change? Torreira should come in, but who would move away? Guendouzi who we all forgave for school boy mistakes, or Xhaka who is absolute toilet?

There will also be questions around Ramsey, who was very ineffective outside leading the press. He was yanked on 54, will he get another chance tomorrow? If he does, will the manager rethink the role?

Strikers: Auba has tended to look a touch average against top teams. He’s easily nullified and he doesn’t have much of a hold up game. Will Emery persist with his vision of counter attacking football with one striker leading the line, or will he give us all Lacazette and Auba in an iteration of 4-1–2-1-2? We certainly looked more dangerous with two strikers than we did with one. We also probably look more dangerous with Ozil in at 10.

For me, anything above zero points would be nice. It’s too early in this project to feel hopeful of toppling an excellent Chelsea squad with a very good manager. Our main focus is how we take 24 points from the next 8 games. That’s our build up to a massive against Liverpool in November. By then we’ll have a realistic view of how good or bad our season is going to be.

It’s kind of odd how underwhelmed everyone is so early on in the season. The Wenger hangover is a three day one without doubt. That can either work really well for Emery, because expectations are so low, or it could go badly, because we’ll turn quickly. After reading around the web, it’s pretty clear that the one thing Emery lacks with the fans is an emotional connection. If results go badly, no one is going to fight the managers corner, which is why it’s incredibly important he gets some small wins in early and racks up a run. That might not come today, but it’s going to have to soon because the honeymoon feels like it finished at the airport.

Right, see you in the comments.

Lessons from this game is players like Bellerin, Xhaka and Ozil cannot start. Bellerin still looks frankly shocking as does Mustafi. Xhaka although wasn’t terrible, lacks the speed mobility and stamina to that position. As for Ozil it’s same as usual lack of work rate

  2. Cesc Appeal

    Jim

The problem is Ozil, I don’t know how we sell him.

It will have to be someone like Munich or PSG and then we would have to practically give him away, probably best in some sort of swap deal.

Either that or China if he will, the MLS maybe or Turkey if someone can find money for his wages.

  3. DaleDaGooner

Under wenger we would probably have witnessed another shameful 6-2 today.

Stop it man! Wenger’s gone! We look the same.

  4. Emiratesstroller

This team is a disjointed and complete mess. Defensively we are utterly clueless.

Bellerin has gone down the tubes and had a shocking game and our centre backs
    lack football intelligence.

  5. Cesc Appeal

I thought Cech again was pretty good in terms of actual GK things, still a bit shaky with the whole playing out from the back.

  6. Jim Lahey

    @CA –

However we do it, he needs to go, he is bringing nothing to that team, Xhaka also.

One thing I loved seeing today was a tactical sub at half time, can’t remember that last time we saw that!!

  7. S Asoa

The Final 11 is what Arsenal should have started with. With Chelsea playing so poorly in the first half and with a shitall defence. We would have won comfortably.
Arsenal defence has become worse. Apparently Bould is maintained at the behest of Kroenke son. It is a pity that Emery is an obstinate arsehole in certain ways like our Late Arsehole W. Am sure Bould could inject some organisation in defence ,if give a chance. Now Bould simply sits on his arse earning em €

  8. Emiratesstroller

    CA

Cech was by a country mile our best player. Without him who knows how many goals we might have conceded.

However, the constant back passing to the goalkeeper is a nightmare.

  9. raptora

Things will look better after we start winning games. Horror begining of the season. Schedule couldn’t have been worse when you are a new manager on a team that needs total reshaping.

The last 20 mins in the first half was the most electric Arsenal I’ve seen for a while.

  10. MGooner

How on earth is our Egyptian not in this side.

Surely, it would be obvious even to Emery that he is better than Xhaka and Torreira?

  11. Cesc Appeal

    Jim

I think someone in Bundesliga or maybe Serie A might take Xhaka, again though we might be able to get most for him in a swap deal for someone.

I just worry though as I said in the summer with Ozil earning £350 000 and for some reason a great many fans thinking he’s world class Emery will feel pressure to select him.

He impressed me by substituting him and the fucking pussy didn’t like it at all. He was shouting something at Monreal I think as Ramsey was getting ready and so was trying that trick of his to look interested for 2 seconds to con people, Emery was having none of it though.

  12. Thank you & goodnight

Somehow we’ve got to try and get kroenke out of our club. He allowed Wenger’s incompetency to drag this club backwards and he’s as much to blame for our demise as is Wenger. I know it’s virtually impossible to get him out but we have to try ffs

  13. mano'gunner

We signed Ozil to produce an impact like Hazard did today. Such a massive massive disappointment he has turned out to be.

  14. US

    Koscielny
    Cech
    Ramsey
    Ozil
    Xhaka

    Our five captains.
And the five players i’d be looking to replace over the next 2 transfer windows.

  15. Emiratesstroller

    raptora

Frankly I don’t see us getting better with this defence. There is no discipline or
    football intelligence.

The team has already conceded 5 goals in two games and frankly it could have been double figures.

  16. alexanderhenry

I feel a bit sorry for Emery. Those are two extremely difficult opening fixtures.
Now the West Ham game is a must win. Lose that and he’s in trouble.

Surely he must drop Xhaka and Bellerin though.

  17. Bob N16

    CA totally agree.

Emery has to play with as solid a line up as he can. Thought Monreal showed the way. Lichsteiner has to start. Torreira and Guen CM. PEA, Laca, Iwobi/ Mkhi. Probably Ramsay AM . CBs probably as today butStavros might have the pace we need.

Next few weeks we’ll probably win against mediocrity. The test will come against Liverpool. Lots of goals this season at both ends.

  18. Sanmi

I think I can see emery is a good tactician. He is unlucky to start playing 2 tough teams.
He inherited a shitty team. I can see us easily killing small teams.
By the way, Bellerin played well today. Monreal too. Sokratis and Mustafi should know when to play high line.
    Ozil has to be punished.
    Lacazette must start next match.
    Torreira is apparently rusty.
On another day, aubameyang would have sealed this for us.

  19. Cesc Appeal

Xhaka, Bellerin and Ozil need to be dropped.

No point in playing Ozil, sure he might turn up against West Ham if they play like shit, but we’re not building any chemistry as a team going forward and you cannot count on Ozil for any form of slightly challenging game so it is stupid to play him.

  20. Guns of Hackney

    Whoops a daisy.

This wasn’t a learning curve. Or a close, beautiful death. It was another loss. That’s two.

Fuck Emery. Fuck Arsenal. And fuck the future. There isn’t one.

  21. Wenger-wanger

Ballerin! Haha.. What goes through his head? Absolute clown… Should never wear an arsenal shirt again. Only Monteal. Is reliable…
On a positive note guendouzi is a very good player…

  22. Champagne charlie

    Sanmi

Going to have to ask for a breakdown as to how Bellerin played well today…

Really looking forward to the laughs coming. Over to you

  23. Radio Raheem

    Cesc

Well spotted, Cech generally looks better the last two matches albeit with questions about his passing. But this begs the question as to the reason for buying Leno if he can’t shift a waning Cech.

  24. Emiratesstroller

Bishop went upfield in last 10 minutes and then took an age getting back to his
defensive duties leaving us totally exposed to counterattack!!

Back four are supposed to be defenders. This is the problem neither manager
has been able to instil good habits into this back four combination.

Our defence is in my view a complete rebuild job and that would cost at least
£200 million which Kroenke is not going to invest in this team.

  25. HillWood

Surely Emery can’t carry on with these short goal kicks. It’s so predictable and suicidel really
Not sure what to say about about the defending

  26. Daz

Its been a really tough start for emery but ffs i thought he was the type of manager to set up the team based on who we are playing? Where’s the pressing? Why are we so open?

  27. Elmo

It’s 6th at best this season. I think we have to accept that and hope the manager can start piecing our future team together.

We need to focus on establishing a rock solid MF understanding between Torreira and Gwen as the backbone to build around.

There’s no quick fix for this team, so the buying of 29+ year olds has to stop.

  28. Jeff

Absolute baptism by fire. New manager, two of the most difficult games possible right at the start. Now that these two wretched fixtures are over we have to start motoring up the table. However from what I’ve seen so far the team needs some serious injection of talent – and I mean serious. Auba and Lacazette, although both above average, cannot be looked upon as our talisman players. We need to splash out figures with a lot of zeros come the winter and the summer to shore up the defence and the attack if Arsenal are going to be a force in football again. I’m prepared to right this season off in any event.

  29. Uwot?

Yep ozil is a conundrum.what to do with the waste of space?personally i’d Bin him off to Turkey.its where he wants to be & they love him there.i’m sure Some sort of arrangement could be done….sometimes you just cut your losses.

  30. OleGunner

I never want to see Xhaka in an arsenal shirt again.
Otherwise we had a good hustle. Feel really down after losing that one 🙁

  31. Emiratesstroller

Manchester City bought an entire back division last season including new
goalkeeper, 3 full backs and 2 centre backs.

That is what is needed if we are going to progress. That is sadly not going to
happen, because the only defenders who are saleable are Mustafi and Bellerin.
If you are lucky you would get £50 million for these two. Cech, Sokratis, Monreal, and Lichtensteiner have absolutely no commercial value.

  32. Hunter

    Your Comment Here
I think we should all take a deep breath.we need at least two seasons to turn this ship around.we knew it would hurt and it does.Emery MUST be given time,we have asked for change and now we’ve got it.There will be many bad results before the team gels.We did not in my opinion get all the players we wanted for whatever reason. We MUST support both the manager and the team as best we can.I am confident results will come BUT if we finish mid-way this season I for one will understand.

  33. Elmo

    Stroller

The goal has to be for one of Mavropanos, Holding or Chambers to be pushing through to take one of the starting CB slots by the back end of this season / start of next season .

We can’t afford to buy in top level CBs so we should be keeping an eye on how players like Tarkowski develop this year.

  34. Guns of Hackney

Laca and PEA are, at best, back up level forwards. Fact.

Not good enough lads. Not good enough. Flat track bullies. And even that’s a stretch.

I’d say, relegation or mid table. We deserve everything we get. The last decade has ruined the club. Fuck you. Fuck Arsenal and fuck everyone that didn’t call Arsene out. This is your fault.

  35. GoonerGaz

FFS some people don’t half over react!

Wenger may have gone in May, but his bull shit is going to take more than two games, the stench will be floating around for weeks to come yet.

What I will say is, Bellerin has been stealing a living, reminds me of Nicholas Bendtner and it’s time to let Lich show Bellerin how it’s done, even if it’s just for this season and recruit a new RB in the coming window.

Xhaka needs to just never play again!

  36. CaliGooner

Bellerin has steadily declined the last year and a half and is now shockingly bad. Offers nothing going forward or defending. Terrible.

However what a different game it would have been if our two record strikers were competent today scoring (Auba with two terrible misses) or not gifting goals (laca)

Horror start but there are signs that things will improve. Our pressing is creating a lot of chances. If only we could not give up 2+ goals. Wish Chambers was here instead of Mustafi and Bellerin shouldn’t start a league game again.

  37. Emiratesstroller

    Elmo

Yes Mavropanos has potential, but would you have played him against either
Man City or Chelsea? He needs to be playing alongside an intelligent and
positionally sound partner. We don’t have such a player.

  38. Kay

Just cant digest the sitters missed by Auba and Mikki.

I think we should just throw the towel on ozil. He did help the pressing game. However he had zero influence in the attack bar the early volley.

Sooner we ship ozil and xhaka, better for us.

  39. Alex Cutter

“Bellerin didn’t do badly. Is it just hatred against him”

This is true. There are a lot of gay-bashers here.

  40. Emiratesstroller

    RT

Stop attacking and abusing other posters.

It is not just tiresome, but frankly reaching the point that if enough of us complain even Pedro’s tolerance will be stretched to the limit and you will get binned permanently.

  41. Cesc Appeal

I thought Iwobi was actually decent today, don’t get people slating him, he’s still Iwobi so you don’t expect too much but he did well and should start against West Ham, he’s earned that.

Wouldn’t that be something, selections based on merit.

  42. Receding hairline

    Funny game.

Sokratis hasn’t been that bad..mustafi is awful

Bellerin needs a quiet word with himself.
Aubameyang is a flat track bully.
Mkhi did OK…defending isn’t his strong point.. Should never start with Ozil though.
    Iwobi did very well.

That Guendouzi kid got balls. Putting all the senior players to shame.

  43. CaliGooner

How can you say Bellerin wasn’t bad?Every Chelsea attack went down his side. They know he can’t defend and miki won’t cover.
He can’t defend or cross a ball going forward. What does he do well?

  44. TheLegendaryDB10

    ES

Bishop went upfield in last 10 minutes and then took an age getting back to his
defensive duties leaving us totally exposed to counterattack!!

I think you meant Bellerin. … And I agree. At some point he was in Chelski’s box for a corner and I was thinking why the fuck was he not at the back in case of a counter attack!!

  45. Cesc Appeal

As people are saying it really does say something that a 19 year old with half a season of Ligue 2 football has been our best player against City and Chelsea.

There are some in our first team who need to think about that.

  46. Emiratesstroller

    LegendaryDB10

Something went wrong with original post which I then corrected. It was addressed to Bishop’s post.

I was referring to Sokratis going upfield and then taking an age to get back. We
    were completely exposed to counterattack.

  47. Guns of Hackney

I’ll pick this up tomorrow. I am drinking heavily and dealing with a pregnant wife. My fire against arsenal will have to wait. Fuck you all. Out.

  48. Guns of Hackney

Ronaldo at Arsenal would look out of place. The Emirates is a football graveyard.

I actually don’t care. I stopped supporting a very long time ago and honestly, post for fun. The club is dead.

Find yourself something else to like. I did.

  49. Guns of Hackney

There is no bigger wanker than you, Red.

And I think most of Le Grove would support that notion.

But I am retiring from Le Grove. Enjoy your time here.

  50. TheLegendaryDB10

    ES

OK. I thought your post looked a bit “all over the place”. A bit like our first 30 mins! 😉

  51. TheLegendaryDB10

    VicVic

It’s Torreira 2ng game in the PL. Let him adapt for FFS! Whats with expecting players to adapt on day one!?

  52. Leedsgunner

Yes it is a shame we lost again, but we showed fight and endeavour. The mentality is changing imo. Under Wenger we would have just crumbled.

Where is Özil that took Napoli apart when he got here? After the summer he’s had you would have thought he would have been fired up and ready to show the footballing world but especially the DFB who they were going to miss.

We’ll probably start to pick up points against the weaker teams but when facing our rivals we are still very far behind.

Wenger really did leave us in a dismal mess. Love the club indeed.

  53. loyika

Bummer game. Chavs were there for the taking but a’las we didn’t take the chances that came our way.

One or two positives to take away despite the 2 losses on the bounce.

Glad those 2 games are out of the way. Hammers next on, we abosolutely need to be winning that (won’t be easy though as they will also be looking for their first win as well)

Losing 2 on the trot against Citeh and Chelsea can be tolerated, but losing to Westham and making it 3 on the trot will be a disaster for the Gaffer and the wagons will begin to circle.

The only way is upwards (from here) I guess.

  54. Samesong

We’ll probably start to pick up points against the weaker teams

We will struggle against some of these teams.

  55. karim

M’Bappe with a brace in 20 minutes of game time
Meanwhile PV4 on his way to losing a second game with Nice

Tough times for the Arsenal family

  56. VicVic

Now we win the next game 3-0, and what?
Untill Liverpool, Emery remains a suspect.
But please, whatever happens in the next games, I don’t wanna see Ozil in that first eleven.
    Bring him in at 80.
    £350,000 a week for that?
Arsenal must go to court to seek help!

  57. Nelson

I think the tactics is wrong. It is an away game against a top 6 team. We have 2 slow CB’s and we defend with a high line. Also, we are playing with only two midfielders. No wonder we gave up two cheap goals so early.
In the second half, Chelsea again took control of the game. Instead of sending in Alexandre Lacazette, he should put in another defender and went for a tie. Hope someone advises him the basic rule in PL. “Go for a tie in an away top 6 team and try to win it at home.” For me, Emery got a failing grade.

  58. Guernsey gun

Shows just what a shitfest was left behind. Just seen some of the chances that pea and hm missed fuckin embarrassing. Mustafi is shit, hms tracking back for the first was disgraceful, the lazy cunt. Poor old dick has one hell of a job on his hands, but deserves time. Any Wenger wank sock puppet calling for his return needs to STFU embarrassing.

  59. TT

Just home from the pub watching the game.

    Couple of observations.

    1. both teams played at times like they were seeing each other for the first time. Understandable when you have 2 new coaches trying to stamp their style on the teams.
    2. Chelsea have better players.
    3. Auba was shite upfront. But he did not have the best of service but again could have scored 2 goals if he had kept his composure.
    4. Xhaka is shit. End of. I can understand why he plays him as I dont think Torreira is read quite yet.
    5, check played well.

Over all Im optimistic for the season as I think a lot of our problems in the last 2 games are down to steep learning curve from a new manager.

Next 8 games are all winnable and that should see us in the top 4 when we meet Liverpool.

  60. Alone + Easy Target

Might have rectify the problems had it been the usual transfer window deadline as Emery could have done some last minute fixes after seeing how they perform in actual competitive matches and not just pre-season friendlies.

  61. raptora

It’s the problem I have with Ozil playing the number 10 role behind the striker. He was just nowhere to be seen. Did he even play today?! His impact, regardless of enough or not enough, is much bigger when he plays on the right.

Ramsey – good or bad, has much bigger contribution to the team, playing in front of our two midfielders – Guendouzi and Torreira hopefully. Presses much better, steals some balls, higher tempo of attacking, is just active in every phase of the game.

Best lineup for me after this game

    Cech
    Licht Mustafi Sokratis Monreal
    Torreira Guendouzi
    Ramsey

    Then in attack 2 options:

    Welbeck Auba Iwobi
    or
    Welbeck Laca Auba

From today I didn’t like Xhaka, Bellerin and Ozil one bit. Think they should not start at all costs.

Versus weaker teams Mikki and Laca could do well maybe.

  62. Cesc Appeal

Even if he thinks Torreira is not ready yet he has to play him, he’s better than Xhaka and we are now playing lower level teams we should beat, he has to find his feet at some point and this will be the best time for him to do it.

  63. VicVic

    Samesong.

    Yeah, world record.

But he had absolutely no grip on the game.

I only needed to see a flash of brillance to forgive the rusty tackles. But no.

Guy was no where in that 45 minutes.

Mark my word, he may start the next few games but he will not keep Xhaka out. And boy, is Xhaka horrible!

  64. Alone + Easy Target

But then again that is if Kroenke accept and agree to add more funds. I guess just have to survive until January. 5th or thereabouts with most settled in then add reinforcements for the final sprint.

  65. Marko

Problem is we never replaced players like Bellerin Xhaka Ozil and Ramsey who simply aren’t good enough. Get them away from the first team and we can move forward as a football club.

  66. Guns of SF

I think Mikki earned himself another starting spot. Mercurial game from him and he was non existent in the 2nd. Guens passing direct to Auba or Mikkhi kick started our attacks late in the 2nd

Ozil was nothing again. Was hoping for something -even small but we all got nothing

    Ramsey did not do anything

Iwobi looked ok- gave us life when we needed to attack.

We have 2 many 10’s. If we had real width and speed, we could have done more.

Not buying that winger will haunt us until Jan.

  67. Guns of SF

Auba does deserve criticism of his game today. For a player who gets the ball rarely, and few chances he needs to put those away. Also needs to work on his hold up game and taking players on in and around the box. Passes quite quickly for someone with his pace.

  68. raptora

From the 2 games and what we’ve seen in the summer, Guendouzi does everything that Xhaka does but better. At the age of 19. So we have a ready replacement for the mofo.

Licht is multiple times better than Bellerin will ever be.

Just needed a classy winger to make this squad look decent enough for top 4. At the moment things are very much in the balance.

I am positive we will start winning the games we are supposed to win.

But it was clear as a day that this first Emery season will be all about getting that top 4 or Europa trophy. Get UCL football and our team will be a brand new team next summer. It will be hard though.

  69. Samesong

Bellerin was involved with both goals we scored

Howard that’s all good in a winning team but give us a description of his defending on that Hazard cross?do you think he did enough to block the cross?

  70. Guns of SF

Torreira will improve and his passing is good as well. He and Guen need games together to gel. Xhaka should remain a sub always with his new contract- he should just shut his mouth
Loved seeing Ozil pulled. His expression was priceless.
Cannot remember the last time he was subbed…. Wenger must be calling him asap to offer him sympathies lol

  71. Cesc Appeal

    Guns

A winger was badly needed, we’re seeing that now because even Iwobi who I don’t rate that highly did improve us today playing wide.

The problem is not enough ruthless decisions were made with the squad but also there may well be a lack of interest around Europe for our players. I don’t know if anyone would have been interested in Xhaka and Ozil etc and if they were you would likely get a slap in the face amount which means rebuilding is difficult.

    Really difficult spot for Emery.

I agree though, we can afford to sell Xhaka, Ozil and Ramsey/Elneny to then try and bring in a winger and a CB.

Ozil is going to be the real problem though, his wages are scandalous. No doubt he is going to turn up against West Ham or Watford at home or something, but I’ve said for years now there just is no future with him. He doesn’t do enough and he causes trouble with selection once he’s played.

He’s the second highest paid player in the league but I bet you none of the other top sides would take him, neither would Madrid or Barcelona etc, only a PSG I could see if we basically gave him away.

  72. TheLegendaryDB10

I don’t know whether pushing Ozil to retire would help us but maybe shipping him to China or the US would the better solution.

  73. VicVic

    Hairline.

Can’t you guys treat issues and show respect?

Always looking for excuses to shoot off abuses?

I stated my opinion, state yours and leave your usual childish drama.

    Whose attention? Yours?
    Fuck off!

  74. raptora

    Arsenal: Cech (7), Bellerin (3), Sokratis (4), Mustafi (4), Monreal (5), Xhaka (3), Guendouzi (5), Mkhitaryan (6), Ozil (4), Iwobi (6), Aubameyang (6)

    Subs: Torreira (6), Ramsey (6), Lacazette (5)

    SkySports massacre!

  75. Guns of SF

yea tough spot for Emery being the new coach and wanting to give everyone a chance. I think January we will see the winger come in…. hoping that Dembele sucks and Malcolm eclipses him. We destabilized him in the summer and I hope we go in for.him again.

Rambo must be sold to recoup funds in the winter if we have any chance of top 4.

Every damn time I read about Arsenal- they are smiling in training, joking having fun. Im so done with that. For a team with aspirations, that is shit.

Double the training. No joking or clowning.

We lose games- the players all have to feel something. We cannot have softy wenger style post game loss BS anymore. Team has to get tough

  76. Cesc Appeal

    ‘Arsenal: Cech (7), Bellerin (3), Sokratis (4), Mustafi (4), Monreal (5), Xhaka (3), Guendouzi (5), Mkhitaryan (6), Ozil (4), Iwobi (6), Aubameyang (6)’

Some of these are harsh and some are too generous.

Ozil and Bellerin’s ratings should be swapped, Guendouzi was at least a 6 and Cech probably deserves more, Monreal as well was decent enough.

Ozil was the worst player on the team.

    Hairline,

Na your kind dey make dis Oyibo pikin dey abuse obodo naija.

Show class, bro. Or never refer to me again.

  78. Marko

Says a lot about Arsene that a piss poor midfield/midfielders he failed to address the last two seasons have been so utterly pathetic that a 19 year old with 20 odd Ligue two games experience is probably our best midfielder. Granite Xhaka is so bad Guendouzi is a starter now. Ozil and Ramsey are so bad that Iwobi and Welbeck don’t look like a bad idea right now. Bellerin’s quality has taken such a nosedive that a 34 year old back up looks a better option. And Mavropanos is an upgrade to Mustafi.

  79. jwl

I was hoping Arsenal players had downed tools for past season or two to get Wenger fired and that they would be like new players when different manager was hired.

Not working out that way so far, a bunch of our senior players on large wages are hopeless, I curious to see if Emery can whip them into shape in next few months. Emery must be wondering why the fuck did Wenger buy this player about many in his new squad.

  80. Marko

Ozil is pretty much finished as any sort of okay to decent kind of footballer yeah everyone in agreement. Can’t remember the last time he was dominant in a game. Forget about in the big games

I think we missed an opportunity with Bailey, could maybe have offered Xhaka and money or been more ruthless with sales but the rumoured price was reasonable in this market.

    ———Torreria—–Guendouzi—–
    —————-Mkhitaryan————-
    —-Iwobi—–Lacazette—Aubameyang

That would be what I would go for until January, could play Welbeck instead of Iwobi.

Really is a long road back for us though, we’re so unbalanced and lacking in so many areas.

  82. Majesticgooner

Can people stop going on about our pressing game. It’s non existent, we did not hassle Chelsea with energy or hunger. They seemed to want it more especially in the second half,we just sat back, inviting Chelsea onto us. And again today showed the lack of a dribbler in the team.

This VicVic dude I suggest you download a dictionary on your phone and check what an insult means. I can’t see where I insulted you.

And I don’t care where you are from..this is not a town meeting.. You can take your inferiority complex and shove it .

  84. VicVic

    jwl.

So Emery wondered so much about why Wenger bought those players that he decided to make them captains?

Emery thinks Ozil and Xhaka are part of the way forward, and I find that absolutely shocking. As shocking as his strange idea of five captains in a team!

Must he make half the team captains before he raises leaders?

Early days, though, but these all seem oddly disappointing……not just the results but the way Emery seems to be thinking.

  85. Cesc Appeal

The pressing game started just before we scored with Aubameyang and we continued it until half time where we decided to then leave it in the changing room.

When we did it for those 10-15 minutes Chelsea couldn’t deal with it and we could easily have scored 2 more goals.

The problem is we press in places for a limited duration and players like Ozil just don’t do it which breaks the whole thing because the opposition team has an area to pass into to escape the press because Ozil is thinking about how hard done by he is doing his Eeyore impression.

  86. PessimisticPat

Tons of misplaced passed, lapses in concentration, but ultimately piss poor finishing cost us. Mikki iwobi and PEA (twice)all should have scored. I know we lost but I saw a few positives. Half time substitution got me rock hard. Nice to see ozil get pulled. Nice to have underperforming players getting subbed. We now have 8 games in the league plus Europa and league cup games to figure out who will fight for their spot and who will start slagging off the manager (that will start soon). Onward and upward I say, might have to change my moniker

Let’s face it, both Chelsea and City have the squads to capitalise on any hesitation, uncertainty, lack of coherence that is inevitable with a new coach/ideas. It’s been a thoroughly brutal start.

That being said there’s a run of games now where those excuses can’t be used and we should really see more of our ‘new age’ come to light.

For me we were miles better first half against Chelsea, Bellerin was a major contributor to our torrid moments and it’s the only time in the game we looked a threat. Second half was gash, we created nothing and basically it was them probing for 45mins until we gave.

I don’t like the business we did, it lacks excitement and an element of surprise. No player excites me from the bunch we brought in, just some hope that holes are finally filled with competency. Beyond comprehension why Malcom wasn’t bought, why Fekir wasn’t bought etc. Those kind of deals kickstart a club and we missed our moment big time. Long road until Jan, a few need a good look in the mirror

  88. Receding hairline

Yea Charlie second half was rubbish. I knew they were going to score cos we kept turning the ball over. The players still seem confused as to what sought of team we now are.. Possession based or counter attacking.

As for the business we did this summer I think we have to face the reality that the money isn’t just there and the players we have just won’t fetch much when sold. We could only move Ospina on loan while the butter fingered kid in goal for Chelsea fetched someone 71m

  89. alexanderhenry

    CC

    Agreed.
In the end Chelsea have better players than us. That’s always the most important statistic.
Also, you’e right to point out that our summer signings were hardly inspiring. The problem Emery had, was that he had £70 million to spend but needed four of five players, so that left no room for a stellar signing.

The season starts effectively next game for us. Surely we’ll win that. We pretty much have to now.
After that the next real test for me is Everton at home.

  90. PessimisticPat

Our ridiculous wage bill doesn’t help either when you’re trying to assemble a better squad. Hard to offload players. This season is going to be rough, but a couple more transfer windows hopefully our squadll look better

  91. VicVic

    Hairline,

I know you live here, but whenever I come visiting, pretend as if don’t see me.

I don’t know what to call you if you don’t believe that calling someone an attention-seeker is insultive.

    You lack values.

  92. Champagne charlie

    Receding

Ehh yes and no. I was slaughtered to saying I’d sell Bellerin in the summer (he would’ve fetched good money).

I just feel you need an X factor type with a new manager, we missed a trick there. It’s THIS aspect I lay at Stan, he could supplement the kitty for one top player and we go lean another window. This window was a huge one and I can’t help but feel we’ve started tame as fuck, Dembele should’ve gotten done.

  93. China

I passed out asleep before the game tonight and missed it unfortunately

Seems like I was right about ozil tho judging by the comments here. I’m not sure we can ever justify starting him against top 6 opposition when we know his entire contribution is likely to be 2-3 good passes and absolutely zero else

The guy is a complete fraud

I had hopes until the city game that emery’s arrkval combined with the Germany fiasco would put a fire in his belly to step up. Evidently the truth is that his heart is simply not in playing football. It hasn’t been for the last 5 years and it’s not changing now.

To ozil, football is nothing more than a day job he shows up to to collect his pay cheque the same as half of us turn up to work and sit through the daily grind

If I was emery I’d seriously have a rule to never start him against serious opposition. Let him pad out his stats against dross teams and play a more useful player against real opposition

  94. VicVic

Pls guys, layoff talking about the soft games ahead.
A big team only earns respect when you win against other big teams.
What does it matter if we win 5-0 against West Ham now?
Oh, arsenal won the mighty West Ham, eh?
