Emery looks for first win

So I had to miss two days of a stag do because of work. I’ve arrived at what I ‘think’ is the destination, but no one is awake. I’ve let myself into a house with no number. So this could be the last you read of me if I’ve made a mistake and I’m camping out in some random MAGA fanatics house in Nevada.

Buuuut, while I’m here, why not pen a post?

Arsenal take on the mighty Chavs who were going to build a new stadium until their owner had his visa revoked. I mean, not that we can brag, our owner is currently prying shares away from Arsenal fans as he prepares to take the club offline as we move into the Silent Arsenal era.

I digress.

Big things to look out for today.

Cech: the manager stated he believes in his number one after a slightly erratic display on the opening day where he was pushed into taking the most touches of any keeper in the league (54 I think). Rumours are buzzing around the web that the club aren’t impressed with Leno, which is quite a sorry situation considering it was very well known he’d had a shite season. Anyway, it’s Pete at #1 again, let’s see how he rolls.

Midfield: Xhaka was pony against City, so were most of the midfield. Will Emery double down on his faith in that 11 or will we see some change? Torreira should come in, but who would move away? Guendouzi who we all forgave for school boy mistakes, or Xhaka who is absolute toilet?

There will also be questions around Ramsey, who was very ineffective outside leading the press. He was yanked on 54, will he get another chance tomorrow? If he does, will the manager rethink the role?

Strikers: Auba has tended to look a touch average against top teams. He’s easily nullified and he doesn’t have much of a hold up game. Will Emery persist with his vision of counter attacking football with one striker leading the line, or will he give us all Lacazette and Auba in an iteration of 4-1–2-1-2? We certainly looked more dangerous with two strikers than we did with one. We also probably look more dangerous with Ozil in at 10.

For me, anything above zero points would be nice. It’s too early in this project to feel hopeful of toppling an excellent Chelsea squad with a very good manager. Our main focus is how we take 24 points from the next 8 games. That’s our build up to a massive against Liverpool in November. By then we’ll have a realistic view of how good or bad our season is going to be.

It’s kind of odd how underwhelmed everyone is so early on in the season. The Wenger hangover is a three day one without doubt. That can either work really well for Emery, because expectations are so low, or it could go badly, because we’ll turn quickly. After reading around the web, it’s pretty clear that the one thing Emery lacks with the fans is an emotional connection. If results go badly, no one is going to fight the managers corner, which is why it’s incredibly important he gets some small wins in early and racks up a run. That might not come today, but it’s going to have to soon because the honeymoon feels like it finished at the airport.

Right, see you in the comments.

You are not excusing 0-2 to city but you have excused all soughts of ridiculous score lines we have had to endure under Wenger. You have made excuses for all of Wenger’s flaws but you draw the line for Emery after one game against Man City.

  2. Victorious

You’d find nobody took what Mustafi had to say serious considering he’s a SHIT player who should normally do his talking on the pitch
Why you felt stating that would be painful to me is just as idiotic as your claim Wenger is a God to anybody, your level of obsession is stunning, sort yourself out.

  3. Dissenter

Transition or no transition, Chelsea still have some of the core of the teams that’s won two league championships in the last four years.
Sarri is not starting from the same place as Emery.

Winning at the bridge is not simple by any means

  4. Bob N16

    Michael 24,

Not sure why I’m bothering but anyway…..that one off ‘Wenger won more than you….’ was a response to a mocking City chant about Wenger. Arsenal fans also sang ‘you bought your success..’ or words to that effect. This was ‘banter’ between sets of supporters, it happens at games. You extrapolate in your tired , contrived narrative-supporting way to suggest that this somehow undermines Emery and represents a continuing support for our previous manager.

Why are bothering to post on a subject that you clearly lack insight and wisdom?

  5. Ishola70

Well he did take Ramsey off first in that Man City match and he drops him here. Clearly not happy with Ramsey.

That poor kid Guendouzi again has the privilege to play alongside Xjaka. Poor kid.

He’s hoping Auba comes alive against one of the bigger teams.

    Still no Torreira.

  6. Cesc Appeal

No Hazard in the starting line up is good.

But why no Torreira again? I just don’t understand that.

People can talk about not being ready or fitness or wanting an easier match to introduce him, but Guendouzi is starting his second game in a row now having started against City.

I really do not understand that from Emery.

  7. Ishola70

    Centre midfield looks brittle.

It’s all on the kiddie Guendouzi. Not fair on him really at this early stage of his Arsenal career.

  8. Micheal

Cech, Bellerin, Sokratis, Mustafi, Monreal, Xhaka, Guendouzi, Mkhitaryan, Ozil, Iwobi, Aubameyang.
Subs: Leno, Elneny, Ramsey, Lacazette, Torreira, Lichtsteiner, Welbeck.

  9. Sanmi

One thing is certain, xhaka won’t be pressed in this match. Chelsea don’t press. But torreira would have guaranteed the win

  10. Cesc Appeal

I can understand Iwobi, might even be he’s playing CAM because against Lazio he carried the ball well and burst through the defence in attack on the counter.

But I do not get this Torreira thing.

  11. T

And cant really understand why leno and torreira are not starting.. Surely they are miles better than cech and xhaka?

  12. Sancho Monzorla

Some 20 yr olds can play all the games and be fine. Some fall apart ala Jack Wilshere.

Guess we’ll find out what kind Matty G is this season.

  13. Victorious

Funny enough I think we just about have much to win this match, Iwobi is a plus point, Normally you should have a weapon on the bench, that explains Lacking.. but Torreira? something is clearly wrong

  14. Frost

Would be shocked if we get anything from this match with that lineup. Xhaka for Torreira & Iwobi for laca? Really?

    At least he’s dropped Ramsey.

  15. Ishola70

“One thing is certain, xhaka won’t be pressed in this match. ”

It’s not just about the press with Xjaka.

He falls asleep and stands still in defensive situations overall.

If you mean that he can have a good game on the ball and offensively because of lack of press well let’s see him do it.

Defensively he will be a worry as always.

  16. TR7

Guendouzi will have to play with Xhaka and Ozil, that’s asking for a lot really. Put him along side Torreira and both will thrive. That’s 2 faulty selection out of 2 for Emery.

  17. Dissenter

” Emery not giving himself best chance for success by repeating same mistake”

I have to agree with you there Victorious
Emery seems incapable of learning from his mistakes.
I see he’s starting with Cech again. He’s still starting with Mykhi and Ozil.

At least he’s benched Ramsey which is good. He shouldn’t start until he signs an extension.

  18. China

if Mustafi is shit, why did wenger buy him Vic?

And why did wenger insist on playing him week in week out? Did naughty Mr Kroenke make him do it?

And assuming that did happen, why did lord wenger give Mustafi some guidance to help him improve?

You are an absolute joke of you think wenger should be excused for signing a shot player then not coaching him. And now you blame the player for not being legit. Ok then. Let’s also blame sanity for not being Messi as well. Your god made similar comparisons there right?

  19. Sancho Monzorla

Torreira and Leno were thought to be the real difference makers out of the new signings, yet no starts for them yet. Hard to understand. Torreira especially.

  20. Victorious

Emery seems incapable of learning from his mistakes.
I see he’s starting with Cech again. He’s still starting with Mykhi and Ozil.”

I think the fear from people is Emery are showing signs of the previous manager and thereby bringing back unwanted memories, that would explain the irrational lashing out when from some

  21. Ishola70

“Maybe Guendouzi is playing DM today and xhaka CM”

    No that won’t happen.

Guendouzi is in the team for his legs and will be running between deep and further up.

Xjaka will take his favourite place hiding away from traffic deepest.

If we did see that set-up you speak it would get really ugly for Arsenal.

  22. Bishop

If this guy doesn’t win or draw this game,I will be very angry.
Selections that ruined Wenger kind of.

Players in the final already running shows for their clubs collection 3 points.Torriera is fit and trained for 3 weeks so what’s the excuse ?? Not like he’s injured.
Xhaka is the one that needs to be dropped and not Ramsey. They both had bad games and yet started Xhaka.Xhaka in the team was one of the reasons we kept losing and it was Wengers downfall ,playing crap players.

  23. Paulinho

it’s completely reasonable and understandable for a manager to marginalise contract rebels.

Emery only wants players who are fully committed. Ramsey obviously not signing contract.

We will see whether Emery ends up back-tracking in a few weeks, begging Rambo to come in and save his bacon after it all goes tits up.

  24. Champagne charlie

After yesterday’s circle jerk about AKBs apparently gunning for Emery isn’t it funny to read the cracks appear from some..

  25. Dream10

Shame Welbeck is not starting instead of Henry Mkhitaryan. Would have opened space for Aubameyang to run into.

With no Welbeck,Lacazette or Ramsey in the XI, fearful we’ll have even less shots than we usually do away from home against a decent side. No runs from deep, no box play and no individual shot generation. Have to hope Chelsea are still trying figure things out and find fitness/form.

This is a classic Arsenal 4-5-1 heavy on players behind the ball with minimal efforts on target. Disappointed with Emery.
I wanted to see an ultra attacking XI. We defend better when we attack more. We’re not built for absorbing pressure.

Have to hope Mustafi, Sokratis or Monreal score from a header. Up the Arsenal

  26. Paulinho

Lol victorious, what is it with that part of the world and flip-floppers?

You were a Ramsey fan a few weeks ago.

  27. Victorious

Knock yourself out, you’re all over the place.

It says so much about how SHIT Mustafi is that he’s expecting a manager to tell him to ‘STAY ON HIS FEET’ when putting in a tackle, I mean he is 25 and not a rookie, For all we know he might be bulshiting when he comes out with such balderdash unless you’re a fly in the walls of Colney,

Mustafi should prove his worth and do his talking on THE PITCH instead of been a tissue having a did at the man who gave him a chance at the top level

Your failure to grasp this basic points says so much on how your judgement is clouded by hatred for the man

  28. Bishop

The positive from the line up is, if we lose xhaka never plays again. If we win, we win

Am afraid, we said this over 20 times last season, we are already saying it 2nd time this season, when we possibly be already be 6 points behind top 5.
Maybe he plays well in training and doesn’t replicate in real match.

Today’s result will put a big bearing on Emery and his selections.
Having 5 or so coaches and captains might even be a problem cos he might be taking conflicting advices ,who knows?

  29. gazzap

I dont want to come across all moany after 2 games but that’s just about the weakest 11 he could have selected today. No Laca, no torreira, no ramsey, no Leno and no lichsteiner. whats going on? thank god Guendouzi is there because he gives us some chance along with Auba.
Good to see Monreal return though.

  30. Kayciey

Trash lineup. We are getting beaten. Arsenal will finish 8th the way things are going on here. Mkhitaryan, Xhaka, Iwobi….you can add Ozil there and you have 4 pedestrians in a team. Why are Torerria, Lacazette, Lichtsteiner and Ramsey not playing? Emery just proving how shit manager he is. He couldn’t cut it at PSG….he can’t cut it here. For those expecting result today… good luck.

  31. Pierrei

“Until Rambo signs the contract Emery will keep him on the periphery.”

Have to say that Emery has gone up in my estimation by discarding ramsey so soon.

  32. Goonah

    Absolutely flabbergasted.

    Same failing team again.

He must see amazing stuff and progress in training.

hmm..mby bet my house on a chav win

    naah…in Emery we trust?!?!

  33. TR7

Emery didn’t offload Xhaka in summer and now hands him a start once again…I hope and prey we haven’t recruited another manager who just shoehorns his favorites in the starting 11.

Torreira and Laca played well last week and yet find themselves on the bench again. And if Leno is not better than Cech then why did he spend 17M on him?

  34. T

Really funny. The finnish viasat studio expert (pro coach) said he watched last weeks game twise to analyze and if he were the caoch ozil wouldnt make his squad.. said he simply doesnt give enough which was totally accurate 😀

Interesting to see if he gets anything done today 😀

  35. Gazzap

If it’s abput the contract then I’m happy he dropped Rambo but we don’t know for sure his reasons. He’s dropped Lacazette and Torreira but it’s notging to do with a contract.

  36. Bishop

There is no way one can understand the line expect if we win then we can call him a genius.

It just looks like Wenger still. The reason why we craved changes was cos we wanna see changes bit it’s still all thesame.

  37. Paulinho

Pierre – If Emery bins Ramsey and it works I will have no problem with it. Can understand it as well if the contract is coming into his thinking.

Let’s see whether he – and the likes of you – are right and we become more instantly more solid.

We should be defensively rock-solid today and in the weeks ahead, if what you’ve over the last couple of years is correct.

  38. Thank you & goodnight

Fucking xhaka again. Why.?Can’t tackle can’t run, can’t read the game, average passing ability….shocking player. I thought Gus ceaser was shit but xhaka runs him close

  39. Bamford10

Oh Jesus. I just saw that Iwobi is starting and Ramsey is not. Missed that before. What the fuck is Emery doing?

  40. TheLegendaryDB10

    Come on Arsenal!!!

Not happy to see Xhaka start again but let’s see what happens.

I wonder what made Emery bench Ramsey?

  41. Frost

Here’s hoping our boys stay switched on. Only thing I can see giving us the edge today is the pressing & tactics.

  42. Ishola70

    Wide open Barkley.

Need to close down Jorginho. Give him that much time and space gonna hurt you.

Xjaka has been making an effort so far give him that.

  43. Bishop

The keep showing us videos of training to make us see hardwork….

He picks a rubbish line up ..he plays rubbish tactics .The players at Arsenal aren’t built for his visions.

  44. Ishola70

Monreal giving something positive to the team.

Been Arsenal’s best player for a while now.

One ball from Jorginho kills Arsenal.

Bellerin nowhere to be seen on the goal Big Papa looking like a pub player.

  45. TR7

Mikhi is a lazy fucker, the only player who hasn’t run and pressed so far and now costs us a goal. Ballerina nowhere to be seen either.

  46. raptora

Ramsey was the best player on the pitch last EPL game we played on the bridge. Clearly people are being dumb by saying that he is benched because of his skills. He was a one-man team a year ago at this stadium.

  47. Rambo Ramsey

This is what happens when you play an anus in defensive mid. How long do we have to suffer Xhaka the wanka

  48. Cesc Appeal

    Where was Bellerin?

One of the problems we clearly have is we have two midfielders who want to receive really deep and than a total gap because we have a No.10 as a CAM.

Jesus, there is a lot of work to do with this team the problems we have are numerous.

  49. Dissenter

Ramsey is besneed for the contract issues
…and I LOVE IT. Hers not committed to the club, tell him to f*ck off.

  50. Sancho Monzorla

Watching Cech try to play the ball out is sad and funny.

Players look like they’ve got no fucks to give about winning.

  51. Kayciey

Starting Mykhi and Ozil is damn stupid.
Starting Bellerin ahead of rich is damn stupid too.

The manager himself is stupid. Very stupid

  52. Ishola70

Dear oh dear they are getting in far too easily now.

One ball again and in on goal.

Emery needs to sort it quick or it’s game over soon and more goals conceded.

  53. TheLegendaryDB10

The Chelski forwards are really pressing Cech… I’ve got a bad feeling that he will end up fucking something up later in the game at this rate.

  54. zimmie2652

Gonna be a drubbing at this rate, 4 maybe 5 nil. Mihi is desperate to give the ball back to Chelski. Please get him out of here. For his occasional moment of brilliance, it is not worth shoehorning him into any lineup.

  55. Un na naai

Two teams with two new managers
One has clearly taken on the new ideas
The other clearly aren’t sure what they are doing or they just have no belief in his system

  56. Bamford10

There are four players in the XI – maybe five – who should not be in the XI. I realize it’s only the second game, but maybe I’m beginning to have questions about Emery.

  57. InsideRight

I think Emery has fucked this right up and we are in for a painful few momths.

The players can’t get the passing right. The defence is far from fixed. I don’t know what they are doing in training but the back line hasn’t got a clue what it’s doing.

As for pressing. If we are doing it I can’t see it. This is excruciating.

  58. Cesc Appeal

Chelsea are showing us how to press and pass, playing a way that Emery wants to but we are hopelessly behind.

  59. useroz

Huge mistake no having Torreira on. Don’t care who takes off.

Bellerin that little piece of shit completely missing. Mikki can’t defend and hasn’t much pace…

Where’s the other CB so far off??

Btw, powder stuff in our attack. Whil Chelski is organised and aggressive, ours look mostly random events unfolding…

    Hopeless so far…

  60. Champagne charlie

Lichtsteiner was such a nailed on starter for this one, poor.

I don’t get Bellerin, he was elite at 20 and he’s fallen off a cliff. Happens with some players, he looks abysmal.

  61. Cesc Appeal

Again, Xhaka and Geundouzi are about two feet from the CBs and when the camera pans Ozil is nowhere to be seen, totally empty central midfield.

  62. Dissenter

The player swap of Myhki for Sanchez was a joke.
We should have taken the 60 million from city and used it to buy a player of our choosing..
