What player does 25 year old Granit Xhaka remind you of? For me, he is very reminiscent of a 34 year old Mikel Arteta. Arteta playing in his final couple of years was routinely caught out by pace and resorted to shirt pulling and cheap fouls to make up for it.

    Talk of VAR total deflection

    .Wenger would be proud.

If Xjaka is culpable for the first conceded goal not backing up his team mates and standing stock still in the six yard box with the CBs instead of pushing out and trying to block space between Sterling and the goal what do we say about Licht for the second goal conceded? Totally switched off and allowed Silva to run off him and had zero awareness of what was going on around him. Bellerin could have done better in trying to prevent the cross in the first place, Mustafi and Xjaka were helping no-one in that play but the poorest was Licht in that second goal conceded. I understand he is a bit of a cult hero already on here but already said previously in his prime he was noted for being a good attacking fullback rather than a good defender.

tbh Xjaka’s weaknesses have been so obvious now for a long time with this team that I can’t blame the player himself now. I blame the manager who keeps picking him for the first team.

The problem for Emery is that fans are asking him to drop several established first team players in one go right from the off. Not only is that not really feasible due to the overall strength of the squad but also morale of the squad is likely to drop if Emery cuts off too many heads all at once.

He has to do it very gradually this dropping of players. He can slay one established player right now as an example to others. Xjaka would be a good starting point for this.

Personally I wouldn’t fret too much about the Man City result. A first game versus the Champions was always going to be a tough ask.

    It wasn’t a complete disaster.

Better for the new manager to see what the problems are and what he needs to do to solve them. Wenger didn’t want to admit he had a problem worth fixing.

I find it fucking hilarious that a certain tabloid runs with a story berating Emery after ONE game and basing that opinion on none other than fucking Sam Allardici of all people !!

And a super fan on here quotes him and supports it. AKBs are alive and well and won’t be going away anytime soon.

I am still excited for the season ahead no matter how we played on Sunday. We are a work in progress and the only players I would like to see being dropped is Xhaka
and Cech.Xhaka is one of the worse midfielders ive ever seen. Denilson was better than him which tells us something. I would give Emery 3 seasons to short out the team. All I want is for us to play UCL next season.

Back in the day when men were men, in the opening week of the 42 game season, there’d be 3 games: 1st on Saturday, 2nd on Tues/Wed and the 3rd on Saturday. We all waited till 5 o’clock on the 2nd Saturday to see the new league table after 3 matches. Great times. It was good for the teams to play right from the go as many games as possible, say you lost the first then only 3 or 4 days latter you right back at it. In ’76 we lost our opener at home against newly promoted Bristol City (Supermac’s debut) and then won away the next game 3 days latter.

Is Monreal available for the Chelsea game?

He’s back in training so most probably.

apparently, abaumeyang has told Emery he should start him and lacazzete.

he said he doesn’t mind playing from the left hand side to accommodate lacazette in the central area because of the chemistry between them.

“no download button on it. Is there a way to get it download? I can’t listen as it is..”

Do you not see the options in red capital letters spotify, stitcher, itunes, google and pocket casts?

Stitcher is the easiest to listen on. Just press the stitcher option on that list.

That’s something at least, though it is likely that Lichtsteiner will start there I suppose.

I’m not sure about the way they both keep going on about that, it’s like they don’t want to be in competition with each other and both just want to play.

Neither way is really ideal though, you either have a great ST playing LM or you have Ozil/Mkhitaryan at LM and the other at RM meaning you are totally one pace and predictable.

  13. Ishola70

Ok I understand. You want to download rather than just listen on the page.

Will have to wait then. Some of those other options may have download on them away from stitcher.

I thought we had a nice game, right from the first minute to the final whistle.
just a few bad fruits in a lovely tree.
man city for me played shit compelled to their three matches against us last season.
nice pressing for our first game against the champs. just thought maybe our coach and his staff usually read what we post and watch most of our from last season and know the bad fruit to cut off our lovely tree

Hyperbole. Reactionary. Total crap podcast. Emery in the same bracket as Marco Silva? Smh. I’m not sure what were the expectations, first game against the best team in England, ever!
