Ozil on a whinge + CEO departure smoke sees some fire

Mesut Ozil dropped a beast of a press release about his treatment over the World Cup issues. His angst seems to centre around his belief that his Turkish heritage has made him a scapegoat for a shit show from the national team. He also seems very upset at the damage the picture of him with the Turkish President has done, particularly with charity partners who have abandoned him.

DitDcayWAAEfbwk DitiUpYWAAE_eAp

I feel for him. The racist overtones in the press are awful, it’s unfair that his performances at the World Cup are seen through dual nationality. However, I can’t feel for him losing partners. Standing tall with authoritarianism was an ignorant move. Whether he was badly advised, or he just didn’t think it through, when you align with a tyrant, you’ve opened yourself up to criticism. Erdogan is a monster, he is savaging Turkish institutions that protect democracy and regardless of where your heritage sits, to be seen as normalizing that with a photo opp is beyond stupid.

Where he does have a point is that in a society that’s said fuck it to consequences for behaviour in poor taste, it’s interesting that a German-Turk gets the full force of alienation. Still, I struggle with whataboutism when it comes to monsters. Mesut’s reasoning for the photo is that he didn’t want to disrespect his ancestry. I find that weak. He might think it’s just a cute pic for the family, but for others, it was normalising a tyrant. Tell your story of ‘I didn’t think of anything other than the pic’ to the jailed judges, civil servants and free press.

Ozil has a massive PR job on his hands, I’m not sure he’s going to shift sentiment with juvenile PR releases that seem to lack a north star. He should own the mistake, make a statement on the pitch and try and and remedy the broken trust with the German public with actions.

In CEO news, the Ivan G story won’t budge with Corriere stating he’s the choice for AC Milan and he’ll head there this September. Now this has been rolling in the media for a week without a firm statement of denial, you have to wonder if the smoke is starting to choke out the truth.

I’d still be surprised if he moved. It’d be a desperately poor show of leadership. He’s spent 9 months in real control of the club. He’s pulled in executives from around the world to guide his vision, luring them based on the trust he’ll be here to support the project. To duck out at the first glamorous door knock would tell you a lot about who is really is if he does it. He’ll be leaving a junior project rudderless, which in the short term could be damaging especially if the new manager doesn’t pan out. More to the point, CEO search and select isn’t a two-week process. It takes months. You have to craft plans, interview with a load of people, meet and greet staff and negotiate complicated compensation deals. If this story is true, he’s been making extremely long-term decisions for Arsenal with his head in AC Milan clouds. That’s really shitty if true.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a big deal. He’s been a solid administrator. He’s overseen a tough stadium move and we’re A-Ok. But really, can you say he blew it out the park? It took him 12 years to convince Stan that Wenger was a dud. He oversaw a train wreck transfer policy, he allowed Wenger to grow a ridiculous socialist wage policy, he was ineffectual at implementing a rugged football infrastructure and he lied to the fans over and over again. Not just that, look at our commercial deals. Hardly inspiring, are they?

He has the chance at to shape his legacy at a club he can become a legend. I hope he stays on, but if he doesn’t, it’s an opportunity to hire in someone who can find that elusive next level.

Finally, Arsenal is linked to the very sexy Yann Sommer. The 29-year-old Swiss was excellent at the world cup and he’d move as competition to Leno. That’d give me some relief.

Right, I’m ducking out. x

Saying Gazidis oversaw the stadium move is giving him more credit than is due. We moved into the Emirates in 2006, Gazidis didnt start until 2009.

“His 35 million follower boys, who of course do not exist in the real world, think he has played excellently if he plays a cross to a man.”

Excellent summary from the Bayern president regarding Ozil.

  3. Danny S

“He last won a tackle before the 2014 World Cup. And now he hides himself and his c*** performance behind this photo.‘

  4. Danny S

For me it’s Ozils lack of overall intelligence on the pitch. He can’t look at a game and think ‘this isn’t working’. He just keeps firing the crosses.
He doesn’t change his game when the game changes. Sometimes you have to stop trying one thing and maybe start chasing the ball down and pressing to help the team out. He doesn’t. He just keeps drifting.

You have no clue. Liberals want more government, conservatives want less government.

Liberals want socialism, conservatives want capitalism.
Liberals wants ban on certain speeches, cons want free speech.
Liberals want welfare, cons want no part of it.

If you want socialism, bans and welfare, you are definitely for more government.

    Sanmi,

You have been sucked into the right wing narrative.

Liberalism does not mean socialism – if anything it stands for freedom.
The Labour Party in Britain stands for socialism.

The right pushes the argument that they stand for freedom and less intervention but this is so clearly not true. Consider why the right wing want Brexit, they can’t stand the EU having any influence and want more power for themselves. Greater ‘sovereignty’ means more power for them. Look at the right wing press, do they really represent freedom? More a mouthpiece for the establishment.

We’re living in scary times when liberalism becomes an insult and the right purport to stand for freedom and at the same time, want to increase control and increase their manipulation, through the media, of the ill informed voter.

  8. Rambo Ramsey

    BobN16

How about you start talking about 2018 Liberalism and not what it used to stand for in good times?

Why do you think right wing parties are winning elections the World over? No, its not because all these billions of voters are ignorant fools being brainwashed by the evil media.

See the thing is: Most of those swelling the ranks of the Right and Far Right are not Right-wing, they’re centrists. But they have no alternative to halting the utter insanity that is Left-wing politics.

  9. Sanmi

If you can’t see the insanity in the feminists movement, gender fluidity, black lives matter, bathroom confusions etc then I can’t help you.

Liberalism is not in the words, it’s in the actions. They endorse zero liberty except you are towing their lines.

I have had these idiots call me racist for not agreeing to their BS movement

    Oh dear.
Whatever happened to remaining in the middle as independent minded.
Actually most of the people swelling the ranks of the right and extreme tight are bigots just coming out in;the open, They are people who want society to remain “where it used to be “, you know “those good old days”
As it turns out those good days where people like me had a reduced role in the world, people could be discriminated upon, signs like “Irish and blacks not allowed” and gay people were openly kept out of society.
There’s a third way; the place sane people stay- the middle, i.e as independents

Didn’t know you support the politics of BNP, Marie, Marine Le Pen and all the other far right extremists.
I don’t have any problem with the “the right”, just your normalization of the “far right”

  11. Sanmi

Redtruth, ozil has contributed alot. He might not have done a lot.. (pun intended).

Ozil is the definition of contribution. He literally is the king of assists. That’s contributing.

Bigotry means intolerance towards another view.

Take a deep breath and ask yourself, who wants to force their views on you?
Who wants you to use their pronouns? Who hunts and abuse you when you don’t agree with them? Which Speaker is being banned from campuses?
Who’s categorizing others view as hate speech?
    Who’s name calling?

All these things are more on the liberal/Democrats side. Now they wanna force us to believe they are women when I can see a penis

  14. Chika

Apparently a German politician also called Ozil “a goat fucker” however, our resident fucktards on here believe it’s fair criticism.

  15. Danny S

If Ozil has a CR7, and a team that can carry him and make up for his total absence when they haven’t got the ball, then he will assist.
If you need to dig in and chase a game or if teams target him he’s non existent.
But that may be wengers fault for not choosing when to play him. Hopefully Emery has more of a plan.

  16. Marko

His 35 million follower boys, who of course do not exist in the real world, think he has played excellently if he plays a cross to a man.”

That’s a chance created right there. It’s almost like the Bayern president has been having arguments with Pierre here

From his prespective, If Ozil doesn’t have the best season of his career this year just to show how clueless some of the critics like Uli are, then he’s a fucking sponge. No pressure.

  19. gambon

Apparently Victorious knows more about football than the President of one of the worlds biggest clubs.

This is just AKBs vs WOBs all over again.

Notice that about 3 days after Wenger was SACKED, they all came out saying “well, we’ve known for years that it was time for Wenger to go, we just wont be disrespectful”

Absolute fucking bollocks, until the day he was sacked you were all defending him and sucking him off all day.

Same thing with Ozil. The world is starting to wake up to what a nothing player he is.

If you take away the first half of the 15/16 season, he has 34 assists in 4.5 seasons, nothing to be at all proud about. He has been shit for 90% of his 5 years in London.

    What an ignorant statement.
Go ask Amadou Diallo’s parent why he deserved 19 bullets for just sitting on a porch unarmed in NYC in 1999.
American policing is far from perfect in many areas, to put it nicely.
I have a lot of friends who are in law enforcement and they privately admit that the way American police manage minority populations ought to change. It’s one that based on having near-absolute immunity from prosecution and the officers are typically suburban or rurally raised individuals who grew up with a distrust or ignorance of black people.
Most sane people know police use excessive force against blacks people in the US. There’s also inarguable evidence that black people get punished more for the SAME charge as white people.
People on all sides know there’s a disparity because it’s fact.

It is idiocy when a “well travelled” Nigerian ridicules people that look like you PEACEFULLY agitating for change.

    Why bother?

Haven’t you learnt from their pro-Wenger days this is their tactic, ignore points that they find tricky and just make claims that no one actually made. Wait for the next time you’re in an Ozil debate and someone will ask ‘so you think what has been said by some Germans is acceptable?’ As if you said that.

Those comments from the Munich president! Wow. I think there seems to be have been real issues in that Germany team before the World Cup because that is a boiling over rant at a player he clearly has been displeased with.

To think a lot of us though Munich might be somewhere Ozil ends up because of how easy Bundesliga would be. Clearly not.

The thing is those that like Ozil can, those that don’t like him don’t have to. But they seem to attack any criticism of Ozil with the seem vociferousness they did any criticism of Wenger.

Said for a long time Ozil is the playing version of the last years of Wenger. Seems true.

  22. Danny S

Chelsea were offering hazard 300k per week. Look what he gives to the team.
Ozil gets 350k and he can rock a chances created stat (against certain opposition).

Remember Gazidis took the CEO’s job that no-one else wanted. Maybe nine years of it drained his desire for Arsenal. It either will have or it won’t have.

If it has, there is nothing to do but leave and start afresh somewhere where the frustrations can be got rid of.

The other question is what, precisely, you need from a CEO at Arsenal these days? No finance to raise, sponsorship deals are commercial director stuff. A competent Chairman can pretty much oversee board level activities, Board Members oversee everything below.

It may be the structures put in place remove the need for a CEO.

It may be Gazidis knows American investors are lining up a European Superleague and he wants in. AC MILAN now controlled by US hedge funds, Sevilla next target.

All kinds of reasons why Gazidis might leave.

But the most obvious is that eight years of being subservient created a need to leave, but only when his stock was rising higher.

  28. mysticleaves

Danny S, can you tell us what Hazard gives to Chelsea?

A lot of people are ignorant as to how effective a good team system can make an individual player seem.

  29. Savage

Agreed Sanmi. The liberals are pushing a control system where “tolerance” means punishment for anything that disagrees with them. The “tolerance” movement preaches acceptance and practices bigotry.

I find it unfortunate that in Britain particularly, there is a default to supporting labour if you support football. There’s such a historical class divide on sporting lines that you have to work much harder to actually evaluate economic and political positions.

The intellectual framework behind free market / capitalist thinking is superb, but there seem to be only a minority capable of getting their heads around it, and governments are elected by sheep-minded majorities. The success of a country is ultimately guided by the collective industry of individuals, not the power-handed rule of an elected government.

  30. Danny S

It says it all when he wasn’t linked to a single team when his contract was running down.

    Dissenter,

Do you understand the concept of voting? Its an either-or scenario. This is not about ME, its about why right wing parties are gaining popularity. People have grown sick of Leftist politics and the response is what you see as election results. In 5-10 years time, the right wing parties will be taught a lesson in the next elections if needs be. That’s the beauty of democracy.

Majority of populations are intelligent and can make rational choices. Something Leftists are unable to comprehend or accept. No, they’d rather claim people are morons or misguided or cave-dwellers etc.

“Actually most of the people swelling the ranks of the right and extreme tight are bigots just coming out in;the open, They are people who want society to remain “where it used to be “, you know “those good old days”

  32. gambon

Kevin DeBruyne completes nearly twice as many defensive actions per PL game as Mesut Ozil.

    Back to footy
It’s wrong to throw away the baby with the bath water.
The Bayern president weent too far with some of the criticisms he leveled against Ozil.
However the specific footballing critiques were spot-on
“Ozil has been s*** for years. He won his last tackle before the 2014 WC. “
“When we play Arsenal we focus on him, because we know he is a weak spot”
These are representative of what many (including my humble self 🙂 ) have been saying of him for five years.

People just love to idolize him. Some even count his cross into a crowded bunch of jostling players in the box to be an assist. They even started using
Pre-assist just to make Ozil look better.

  39. Cesc Appeal

    Marko

I don’t know about the sentiments in Germany but I think a big part of this is that Ozil comes across as an arrogant character. He is very in your face in terms of a personality on social media, he is very commercial, holds himself out as a great player, the Beckham of Germany basically in terms of popularity etc, with that comes enormous expectation and pressure. Quite rightly.

Its not reward, reward, reward, reward with no responsibility. His attitude on the field has always been a problem, Mourinho called him a coward, the Madrid president had a go, countless pundits have, the Munich president echoes those things slightly more aggressively. He can get away with it when playing well but look at the divide among Arsenal fans and you know he has not been playing well.

Its the same with Ronaldo, arrogant player. If he plays like crap bet your arse there are people waiting to absolutely level him. But he walks his talk and performs in a way Ozil could never hope to.

Arrogance in sportsmen and flashiness etc is fine, in fact I like it, but you have to walk that talk. If you don’t. Expect criticism.

You can’t hold yourself out to be Germany’s main man, a top rate footballer, one of the biggest sporting individuals going etc and then act shocked that everyone expects you to be those things!

That’s where I also disagree with your statement.

I tend to vote for common sense conservatives in local elections.

  41. Emiratesstroller

Let’s separate Ozil’s football performance from the politics and ethnic issues,
which have risen their ugly head over last few weeks.

Ozil’s football performance for Germany and for Arsenal this season has not been great. However, when ex German players and the so called football establishment describe it as “s..t you know that there is a lot more going on.

Let’s start off with the President of Bayern’s latest outburst. I did not see him
comment about the abject performance of several of his club players. Muller
has been poor all season, Boateng had a fairly dreadful World Cup and Kimmich played like a headless chicken.

Ozil has announced his retirement from National Team and that should be as
far as he is concerned the end of the story. The German Government and Football Federation should on the other hand investigate his allegations, because
of the potential impact on the sport.

Ozil does need to get his own act together as a footballer. There is a grain of
truth that he has underperformed particularly when you read statements about his lack of work ethic when it comes to defending.

Poor defending was sadly ingrained in Arsenal in recent times and needs to
be sorted by new head coach.

    Pedro

    On Gazidis:

Firstly, it would be baffling if he left now after having restructured the club essentially.
What we have now at arsenal is Ivan’s vision.

    Secondly, to quote you

‘It took him 12 years to convince Stan that Wenger was a dud. He oversaw a train wreck transfer policy, he allowed Wenger to grow a ridiculous socialist wage policy, he was ineffectual at implementing a rugged football infrastructure and he lied to the fans over and over again. Not just that, look at our commercial deals. Hardly inspiring, are they?’

I agree 100% but could you be more consistent?
Usually you portray gazidis as arsenal’s saviour.
Also the idea that he was always battling against wenger is conjecture.
Most of the time they were singing from the same hymn sheet.
Gazidis has always been evangelical about ‘values’, ‘project youth’ and ‘self sustainability ‘.

  43. Paulinho

Brilliant comments about Ozil from Bayern president.

Basically everything I’ve said about the twat since he joined. Crossing merchant and Bayern absolutely loved playing against him.

  44. raptora

Hoeness also revealed that Bayern target Ozil – who has only been on the winning side twice in 17 matches against the German giants – whenever they play Arsenal.

“Whenever we played against Arsenal, we played over him, because we know he’s the weak point”

    HOLY BALLS

    Fking deleted!

When one of the most successful players in German history who happens to be the President of one very top teams in the world, meaning the guy has made it in every sense of the word and probably knows a thing or two about the game, says something like this, you’re quiet, you don’t argue.

He’s basically said a thing that half of the blog has been talking about for years. Ozil doesn’t want to play football anymore. He’s been a part player for years. Even when he starts games he’s a part player. It’s not about running around or crossing the ball. It’s doing your absolute best to win the game of football. Ozil doesn’t do that.

  45. Rambo Ramsey

“You are the one smearing conservative minded people when you lump them with the “far right” who are just carefully worded bigots.”

    I agree.

No way Gazidis goes now, he’s just got everything he wants.

And it was probably the last two years that he turned against Wenger fully, no doubt he was frustrated the whole time by having little say and having Wenger control everything but I think he really turned when he saw the damage Wenger was doing to Arsenal at every level. No UCL, season ticket demand drop off, low attendance, apathy, huge wastage in resources, players not being optimised, amateur transfer and contract handling etc.

  47. mysticleaves

I would like to see how Erikson, Kdb, Hazard and the others would have performed under Wenger the last three years without proper training information and blueprint. (I remember how awful Hazard was under the Jose implosion job at Chelsea.)

I would also like to have seen how Ozil would have done in a Guardiola team because he was excellent in Mourinho’s Madrid for 3 seasons.

Bit ironic that another “express yourself” coach came in at Madrid and binned him.

  48. Michael24

Why are people shocked by Ozils take on the Germans?

You wrote: “See the thing is: Most of those swelling the ranks of the Right and Far Right are not Right-wing, they’re centrists. But they have no alternative to halting the utter insanity that is Left-wing politics

You conflated right wing (conservatives) with the far-right when you pumped them together in your sentence.
You even referred to both as “centrists”

You way want to redefine “centricism”
You did smear conservatives by that appalling statement. There’s no egg on ,h face mate. Just calling out your attempts to normalize the far-right as “centrists”

  51. gambon

The endless excuses for Ozil are hilarious.

Firstly, it was that he needed better players around him.

Then it was that no-one understands what he does (manipulates space, harnesses the power of shadows or some other vague bollocks)

Now its that Wenger wasnt the right manager for him.

Ozil has been given a complete bye by Arsene to do noo defensive work for years. He is allowed to hang around in the final third and he still struggles to score & create good chances.

Since Christmas 2016, he has 20 assists in 2.5 seasons. Thats averaging 8 per season.

I’ll say again, apart from the first 5 months of the 15/16 season, Ozil has been a complete nobody in English football.

  52. mysticleaves

Lol,its a no brainer. Any proper coach and team will get the best out of Ozil and all other players. There are freaks like Messi and Ronaldo but basically everyone plays within a functional system.

Germany have been getting the best out of Ozil for 8 years. They became a shambles in year 9 and look at the result.

When a player in a team with a functional system fails, that’s when you call him shit. Not when he has excelled in every team he has played bar 1 (where everyone else failed) and suddenly he is shit.

Mind, he is still doing his bit but the inefficiency of his team and his inability to cover for their strengths, which is his own weakness, is now used against him.

Last summer I did lose a lot of hope in Gazidis.

But I think he has done brilliantly since then, he quietly got on with getting rid of Wenger and because of him we got Mislintat, Sanellhi and most importantly a new manager and new coaches.

When you think about what the club looked like this time last year and then now, the transformation is remarkable.

If we get back in the UCL this year which I think we will, I personally think we will finish in the UCL places and win the Europa League, then there are not many people who would not want to be Arsenal CEO even if he did leave.

I think we’re on the same path Liverpool were when Klopp took over. Going to be a rough couple of years in terms of success and then confusing failures but we’re on the right path now.

    Couldn’t agree more
    That’s the pragmatic view.
It’s going to take a lot of time to unravel the misdeeds of the past and build good institutions within the club.
    We have to be patient.

Even Wenger is agreeing now that he may have overstayed at Arsenal

  57. KAY Boss

Whether u like Ozil or not the comments from both Hoeness and the German politician are uncalled for. Didn’t Hoeness serve a 3yr prison term for tax evasion? why do some always bring WOB or AKB when opinions defer.
yeah, de brune and Eriksson have performed better than Ozil past seasons. But be sincere to yourselves, prior to their success in the PL, if Ozil in Madrid and the above mentioned players were available whom will u have wished the club sign. #isupportmesutozil

Dissenter, I was talking about it in relation to Elections and voting choices. You must have missed the previous paragraph.

Just to take as example: I voted for right wing party in my nation( they absolutely crushed the ruling party btw )because I was/am disgusted with what the Left has become.

This is probably what’s happening the World over too. Centrists teaming up with right wing to bring the left to its knees.

But hey, it could be your explanation that’s the truth: All these people are bigots coming out into the open in their quest to take the World back to the “good old days”.

    I’m excited by it all.

For the first time I honestly don’t know where Arsenal are heading but what I do know is that for the first time in over a decade the club are now trying to better themselves and to progress and to be successful.

That is all I ever wanted out of Arsenal.

  60. Radio Raheem

We could or should have been better (tactically) prepared in our encounters against Bayern but fingering Özil out as a weak link is bollocks. They could have targeted any of our starting 11.
Those Bayern sides were simply better, man for man.
Bayern’s president is just backing his mates at the FA.

That said if we got a good offer for any of our current lot – Özil, Ramsey etc. – we should sell, I feel no affinity for any of them. They’re all Wengerised underperformers.

Loris Karius on Instagram: “To those who take joy in seeing other people fail or suffer, I feel for you. Whatever it is that’s happening in your life to hold this much anger and hate, I pray that it passes and good things come to you.” #LFC”

One has to feel for him from the humanistic view point.
He just needs to run away from Liverpool. They have an expensively acquired goal keeper already.
It’s only going to get worse.
He needs to restart his career else where. He’s done in England.

  62. PessimisticPat

Gazidis hid behind Wenger for his whole time at Arsenal and if he leaves now as soon as his lanky French pavise has gone then what does that tell you.

Seen a few above say he has been great since Wenger left.
I would say he has been competent, no more, no less.
Results over the next year will show if hes been any good.

If he leaves to go to AC Milan then i couldnt give two shits. He’s hardly irreplaceable and its not like he’s done a great job commercially either.

Dont let the door hit you on the way out Stan.

“Despite the fact the same characters argued as aggressively as they are now about Ozil for Wenger to stay on and that criticism of him was unfair.”

who said Wenger should stay on? You have already said you don’t like Ozil and you have also said he’s not shit so your criticisms about him is based on emotions

  65. Rambo Ramsey

Ozil does come across as a bit of a doofus. Don’t get me wrong- I find it an embarrassment people crying over who he takes pictures with. But there was no need for him to respond to the outrage at all.

As for the retirement news- You are a sportsman, assess your own performance, be honest, tell everyone that you may have let your country down and as such are setting down the shorts and sleeves.

Instead he’s combined separate issues, played the Victim card and made it worse.

  66. mysticleaves

“Since Christmas 2016, he has 20 assists in 2.5 seasons. Thats averaging 8 per season.
I’ll say again, apart from the first 5 months of the 15/16 season, Ozil has been a complete nobody in English football.”

The same period we had a striker everyone wanted us to bin, had Welbeck, iwobi and others that has been pilloried on here as forward options and most importantly had a coach that everyone agreed was past his sell by date and was not interested in tactics and systems?

    Ozil the magician!

  67. Dissenter

    Gazidis is going no where.
He’s one of the best paid CEOs in Europe already.
Why will he leave for a club in a horrible mess, which is Milan.
The ownership structure is not even well defined.

He’s just dropping these stories in the media to redo his contract.

  68. Bob N16

Fuck off Hoeness, have a go at some of your own underperforming players.

With you Kay…..pretty much nobody is saying Ozil’s been great the last couple of years but the relentless battering is ridiculous. Some of the posts on here, e.g. Gambon, are so vitriolic, it borders on hatred.

I, with many others, will be singing his name, first game of the season. I want him to have a blinding season (he plays for Arsenal!) which will have the additional benefit of proving all the haters wrong – miserable individuals.

  69. mysticleaves

    No biggie dissenter.

Hazard (who WE calls the best in the league – which in itself is hilarious ) had a shit season and looked like a pub player the season Chelsea finished 10th. Heaven did not fall.

Surprise surprise, next season, a proper manager was hired who knew what he was doing and he looked better.

Messi finished 2nd with Tata Martino and was ordinary through out the season. Coach was changed and new tactics installed and he roars back.

    Wonder how they do that.

  70. Dissenter

Ozil did say that he’s learned how the media works in his statement (paraphrased).
He certainly could have handled it better.
Some people wait until they write their memoirs before saying the things he said.
Oh wait, he has already written his memoirs and he’s only 29 years old.

Wenger to his credit could have written 10 books in his 22 years at Arsenal but he was principled enough to keep everything away and do his job.
People like Ozil on the other hand have already written their autobiography before they are even done.

  71. LINP

I am a bit confused about this statement. “Erdogan is a monster”. If he is, why is he democratically elected by their people. Turkey is not a third world country.
I admit that the timing of the photo is bad. Ozil is being used for political reason. If you are a Turk, you’ll understand Ozil’s behavior.

I’m looking forward to next season and I expect us to improve.
However, I think it will very difficult to finish top four.
City are out of sight and utd will continue to spend their way into contention.
We’ll have to finish above two of Liverpool, spurs and Chelsea.

With our current squad that will be tough.

Personnel wise, the squad still looks a bit lightweight and diminutive to me.
I know it worked in a few games, but i’m not really happy with the Auba / lacazette combination up front, whether it’s both or either/or. Also, we still lack a wide man/dribbler.

Toreirer looks like a tough guy in midfield which is sorely needed so that’s good and we can assume the goalie is decent.

The club won’t match the big spenders so the big question is what Emery can do with what we’ve got. Time will tell.

  73. Kay

The double standards by the german FA is ridiculous. If he was so shit in wc 2014, why was he not dropped from the starting 11 and instead played wide? Did germany did not have a better wide player than ozil?
Such a shame some of them are supporting it.

I am not a big fan of ozil but the guy is a baller and was wasted by wenger.

As I said, I will give him another season before shouting #ozilout.

We have players like welbeck, Iwobi in the squad and yet we want one of our best player out.

May have been a bit of favouritism from Low to the player.

It will be tough without doubt but I think we’ve got a good manager and good coaches now.

The whole season will be one long learning process for the manager and his coaches.

I think Spurs might suffer a bit this year with a lack of transfers, stadium move and World Cup fatigue. Chelsea are in a bit of a mess right now, but we will see.

Our spending will start next year if we get back into the UCL. That would mean UCL money, new kit deal money, new commercials, more tele money, the Rwanda deal money etc along with Emery having a clearer view of our squad.

Exciting times to be an Arsenal fan finally.

  78. Ishola70

    Park Chu-young’s left testicle
“Ozil retired before he was left out of next squad?”

Yes very likely he would have been dropped from the squad anyway.

That’s even with the previous Jogi favouritism.

He’s getting on now 30 in a few months.

Of course certain folks on here don’t want to entertain that he would have been discarded by the Germans anyway.

Rather go on about their favourite topic = identity politics.

Although some of the stuff coming out from the German end is unprofessional and over the top.

They may still think he has something to offer regardless of Mesut Ozil.

The world doesn’t revolve around Mesut Ozil.

As said in previous post think the Low-Ozil love-in would have been ditched anyway after this recent World Cup.

  80. Kay

We need to qualify for CL at all cost. Ozil Auba Mikki Kos Papa.. All need to be replaced in the next 2 or 3 years. Its not easy for Emery. I would assume Emery would be targetting Europa instead of league to achieve CL qualification.

  81. Kay

“They may still think he has something to offer regardless of Mesut Ozil”

This is where I am coming from. If Low thinks there are no better wide players than Ozil then he should have been sacked for wc 2014. Luckily they won it and its so stupid to come out and say that Ozil was shit after 4yrs.

  82. Ishola70

    Chika-Chik

Do I really need to put “in my opinion” after every post?

It’s bleeding obvious a lot of the posts on here are posters opinion.

    Don’t be dumb.

  83. McBright is Wright

The Bayern CE0 is trying to sell a bait to Arsenal fans…please, dont fall for it even if you hate Ozil.
Its very disrespectfull to drag Arsenal into this saga. In so doing, he did present Arsenal as “weak”, “inconsequential” and “non-entity”…thereby scape-goating Ozil again in Arsenal shirt as he has already done him in German shirt.
He basically, wants us to turn on him and make life miserable for him.
point: i can accept Known, Wright, Dissenter…etc slamming of Ozil -thats in house and allowed. But i cant accept nor allow a CEO who once wanted Ozil to now call him names and wants me to ditto!
non of bisness man. go face your team and lets mind ours.
    end of rant!

  86. Ishola70

No way is this blog going to descend into a light version of Untold.

Certain posters will see to that and it is for the good of the blog especially with it’s past history of questioning.

And certain African posters on here will not stop differing opinions that don’t tow the establishment line.

  87. Rambo Ramsey

    Tis alright lads.

Ozil will go into siege mentality mode, appreciate his club/club-mates more and smash in the goals and assists next season.

  88. Ishola70

There were many who thought Emery would not be appointed.

Was very surprised when he was appointed like many others.

So yes that was my opinion at the time that Arsenal would not appoint him.

I have never said my opinions are fact. They are opinions at the time.

It’s just you Chika-Chika that seems to think that my opinions are stated as fact.

Have you never been wrong in an opinion you have?

    Awful poster.

You can’t help being an arsehole.

  90. G8

    Ozil
I really wasnt impressed when he became our record signing .I believe he wasn’t what we needed back then and it was more PR signing by Wenger to save face.
My sceptical view as many arsenal fans on ozil proved right, he is a good player in a right set up however he has been an expensive luxury player for arsenal .
Didn’t help that wenger played him in every game possible and never tried to take him off when it was obvious he was no show, and the team actually playing with 10 players.

However The statement from the BM presedent is shameful to say the least and also hypocritical..
He is trying suck up to the German FA officials, and deviate criticism from his own players.
He should have started with his own muller, boateang and hummels who along with the rest of the German squad and the manager had a stinker!

  91. Chika

You vehemently stated Arsenal wouldn’t appoint him. It’s different from sharing an opinion you shameless cretin.

  92. mysticleaves

“”In relation to his contract situation, he’s the one who has the last word. Everything depends on him.
“He can stay and adapt to our style or leave the club and try a new experience.”

  93. Ishola70

This Chika-Chik has the maturity of a 12yo.

I had strong opinions at the time that he would not be appointed.

Turns out I was wrong on this strong opinion.

I had a strong opinion that Wenger would be ditched and that turned out correct and was stated on here by me.

    Swings and roundabouts.

Nobody is correct in their opinion all the time.

    WE

Ozil, Lol joking. It’s your opinion though. I just find it hilarious. I think Kdb, Sanchez de Gea, Aguero, D.Silva etc are better. Hazard often disappears in matches more than these other players do.

  96. Ishola70

    Mystic

Is Chika mature enough to stop responding to posts because I am more than happy to stop replying and posting to him.

All this does is drag the blog down this bickering.

I was very pleased that my “strong” opinion on here in regards to Wenger being shown the door turned out correct.

    Very pleased.

    Never change, grandpas.

  99. Ishola70

I’ve never seen Chika give out a strong opinion that turned out on here correct especially such a call as Wenger being ditched.

He prefers to snipe at others without putting his neck out.

    Awful poster.

  100. WengerEagle

    mystic

Regardless of opinions he’s at the very least in the conversation, i.e not a ridiculous/hilarious choice.

Cannot believe that you rate current D Silva, Sanchez, Aguero ahead of Hazard. Career-wise I’ll give you the Man Citeh duo but as for best players in the league atm it is Hazard, Salah and KDB.

  101. Receding Hairline

“And certain African posters on here will not stop differing opinions that don’t tow the establishment line.”

Must you respond to a poster in relation to where he comes from??

You have a serious problem Ishola,,,,you need help

  102. Ishola70

    Grandpa?

Most likely everyone is a grandpa to you as you post like a 12yo.

    No not in the slightest.

    Are you missing him?

  103. mysticleaves

ATM Hazard doesn’t even enter. He didn’t have a very good season last season and was always substituted. Currently I would still rate Silva, Salah, De Gea, kdb, Sane, Kante ahead of him.

Over time though he gets in the conservation.

  104. gambon

“Lmao. I knew the white English men of Le Grove would deliver thoughtful, intelligent discourse re: Ozil’s statement.”

Call Chukka Umunna, call David Lammy, just bloody call someone.

  105. Ishola70

Receding it is quite obvious that the spates I have on here are with predominately African posters.

You turn up like bad coins just like you have now.

Other posters have recognised this. It’s not difficult to ascertain.

So if it is this obvious there is nothing wrong in stating that there are some African posters on here that like to agitate and are very rigid in their thinking. Don’t like differing opinions that don’t tow the party line.

  106. WengerEagle

Don’t know who you were watching mystic but Hazard started in 28 of his 33 league apps and was Chelsea’s only player to write home about all season.

  107. The Royal Arsehole

Thats one way to throw yourself out there for sure. He is going to be scrutinized and blown up for a bit after that statement considering its a slow news time. Maybe it will light the fire under his ass he needs to prove the doubters all wrong. He is a strange bird though and hard to see what motivates and sparks the guy. I am glad he’s 100 percent dedicated to Arsenal now and gets his rest on international weeks. No real excuses left for performance now

  108. Ozy

Racism police is on its way, Gambon!! Unfortunately, you’re going to have to wait in line behind all the other priviledged white men who want to so desperately feel prejudiced against. It’s a really long line.

BUT the good news is your concerns will be taken more seriously than actual, real racism. Must feel great!

    Annnnd… queue the outrage.

  109. Frankie Coffeecakes

Ozil may be guilty of using poor judgement regarding photo opps, but there can be no excuse for the head of the German Football Federation to come out with his comments. Equally the comments coming from Bayern’s head of football are equally as troubling.

Perceived poor play aside, Ozil is absolutely correct that racism is at play and it comes from the highest ranks in German Football no less. Seems that you cant remove generations of racism and hatred from the German psyche. Was not that long ago that such attitudes prevailed and seemingly we are experiencing the fringes of such hate again.

Sad days indeed and this has nothing to do with whether Ozil plays well or not, this is ingrained in a society that obviously has a long way to go in the lessons learned page of history. Those making such comments need to be dealt with strongly and harshly.

  110. mysticleaves

    WE

I meant he was substituted in many of the 28 he started. Showing how bad his performance might have been.

Fact is Hazard has only had one brilliant season since he came to the PL. Others have been largely meh. Yes he has talent but it doesn’t consistently come to the fore like a “best player of the season” player should be

  111. Chika

“Sad days indeed and this has nothing to do with whether Ozil plays well or not, this is ingrained in a society that obviously has a long way to go in the lessons learned page of history. Those making such comments need to be dealt with strongly and harshly.”

    Succinctly put!

  112. Ishola70

So Chika-Chika was a big Wengerite.

Chika-Chika y’all. Following Arsenal all the way from Nigeria. Super fan.

    Super Wengerite fan.

  113. mysticleaves

Hazard basically has all the problems ozil have. Difference is the Chelsea board is not as toothless as Arsenal board.

Systems have largely propelled Hazard. Jose used to bash him bout not caring for his teammates nor doing defensive work. What did Conte do? Absolve him of defensive duties by creating a second striker role for him.

  114. WengerEagle

Lol mystic you’re talking pure shit now, average besides one season?

He’s been their star man in two PL title winning seasons and has been in the PFA Team of the Year four times.
