Ozil on a whinge + CEO departure smoke sees some fire

Mesut Ozil dropped a beast of a press release about his treatment over the World Cup issues. His angst seems to centre around his belief that his Turkish heritage has made him a scapegoat for a shit show from the national team. He also seems very upset at the damage the picture of him with the Turkish President has done, particularly with charity partners who have abandoned him.

DitDcayWAAEfbwk DitiUpYWAAE_eAp

I feel for him. The racist overtones in the press are awful, it’s unfair that his performances at the World Cup are seen through dual nationality. However, I can’t feel for him losing partners. Standing tall with authoritarianism was an ignorant move. Whether he was badly advised, or he just didn’t think it through, when you align with a tyrant, you’ve opened yourself up to criticism. Erdogan is a monster, he is savaging Turkish institutions that protect democracy and regardless of where your heritage sits, to be seen as normalizing that with a photo opp is beyond stupid.

Where he does have a point is that in a society that’s said fuck it to consequences for behaviour in poor taste, it’s interesting that a German-Turk gets the full force of alienation. Still, I struggle with whataboutism when it comes to monsters. Mesut’s reasoning for the photo is that he didn’t want to disrespect his ancestry. I find that weak. He might think it’s just a cute pic for the family, but for others, it was normalising a tyrant. Tell your story of ‘I didn’t think of anything other than the pic’ to the jailed judges, civil servants and free press.

Ozil has a massive PR job on his hands, I’m not sure he’s going to shift sentiment with juvenile PR releases that seem to lack a north star. He should own the mistake, make a statement on the pitch and try and and remedy the broken trust with the German public with actions.

In CEO news, the Ivan G story won’t budge with Corriere stating he’s the choice for AC Milan and he’ll head there this September. Now this has been rolling in the media for a week without a firm statement of denial, you have to wonder if the smoke is starting to choke out the truth.

I’d still be surprised if he moved. It’d be a desperately poor show of leadership. He’s spent 9 months in real control of the club. He’s pulled in executives from around the world to guide his vision, luring them based on the trust he’ll be here to support the project. To duck out at the first glamorous door knock would tell you a lot about who is really is if he does it. He’ll be leaving a junior project rudderless, which in the short term could be damaging especially if the new manager doesn’t pan out. More to the point, CEO search and select isn’t a two-week process. It takes months. You have to craft plans, interview with a load of people, meet and greet staff and negotiate complicated compensation deals. If this story is true, he’s been making extremely long-term decisions for Arsenal with his head in AC Milan clouds. That’s really shitty if true.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a big deal. He’s been a solid administrator. He’s overseen a tough stadium move and we’re A-Ok. But really, can you say he blew it out the park? It took him 12 years to convince Stan that Wenger was a dud. He oversaw a train wreck transfer policy, he allowed Wenger to grow a ridiculous socialist wage policy, he was ineffectual at implementing a rugged football infrastructure and he lied to the fans over and over again. Not just that, look at our commercial deals. Hardly inspiring, are they?

He has the chance at to shape his legacy at a club he can become a legend. I hope he stays on, but if he doesn’t, it’s an opportunity to hire in someone who can find that elusive next level.

Finally, Arsenal is linked to the very sexy Yann Sommer. The 29-year-old Swiss was excellent at the world cup and he’d move as competition to Leno. That’d give me some relief.

Right, I’m ducking out. x

I think if Gazidis moved it.d be like after leaving a structure in place.. ‘ job done ; baton movr.. And or it could be Kroeone junior / fam related …

  2. Marko

Anyone saying Ozil has not been made the scape goat of Germany world cup fallout is taking the piss.Other players were mentioned once or twice but the press has stayed on Ozil.

Maybe now that he’s actually publicly responding to the erdogen stuff they can move on.

  3. Duzie

Pedro! Where do you stand? Today, you praise Gazidis, and say his hands were tied, tomorrow, you say he actually fluffed it all these years. If he goes, we will get another executive.

  4. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

    Pedro

You forgot to mention the shamrock rovers 16 year old keeper.

Us an pool fighting for the youth.

  5. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

    Marko

Best thing ozil can do is get back to his best, then reject the national team when they come knocking

  6. Receding hairline

I repeat this was his court pic with Erdogan where was the outrage for the previous three? Why wait till your country has a disgraceful international tourney? Will Ozil refusing a pic with Erdogan unseat him from power?

  7. arsenate

I just read Iwobi being given a contract extension.
Losing Ivan would be bad for Arsenal FC, its too soon after Wenger.
Its shameful how Ozil is being treated, certainly not the worst player for Germany at the world cup, the team lacked balance, the coach was as much at fault as any one. The list of poor players for Germany kinda cover the whole team

  8. Marko

Why wait till your country has a disgraceful international tourney?

He was getting shit before the world cup as well. And you keep mentioning other pictures with Erdogan was this before or after the attempted coup? The “reelection”? Was it before or after he started jailing journalist and political opponents? Calling them terrorists

  9. Marko

If Iwobi is offered a new contract I honestly don’t get what’s going on with all these contracts. Honestly what’s our ambition

  10. Cesc Appeal

Lazio interested in both Iwobi and Perez apparently. Would sell both to them to fund a new winger.

  11. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

    Marko

The mirror saying iwobi being offered new contract till 2022….

All looks a bit of a disarray really.

  12. Receding hairline

You don’t need to understand Arsenals ambition Marko… U are already in love with another Jersey. Unfortunately they don’t have a blog like this where you can show off your knowledge.

So u mean Erdogan just became a monster? He had all of u fooled until now? I remember during the said coup someone on here mentioned it might be faked..all he got was abuse

  13. TR7

‘If Iwobi is offered a new contract I honestly don’t get what’s going on with all these contracts. Honestly what’s our ambition’

If both Xhaka and Iwobi are offered new contracts and Mustafi is not sold, it will raise serious questions about our ambition and direction. I am not even sure about our signings except Torreira but at least there we can wait and watch.

  14. englandsbest

Hypocrisy, It plays everywhere. If Germany had won the WC, Ozil’s photo with Erdogan wouldn’t have rated a mention.

Yes, Erdogan is a dictator – but there are any number of them scattered around the globe. And the democracies and their leaders deal with most (inc Erdogan). Isn’t that hypocrisy?

Of course it is, But hey, let’s call it pragmatism.

As for Ozil, he should quit whining and focus on giving value for money.

  15. Dissenter

Ozil shouldn’t;t have waited this long before replying .
In PTR terms, he’s prolonged the fiasco.

He should just live his life and try to show up consistently fore the club that pays him 350k a week to kick a football around.
    What’s done is done.

  16. Marko

You don’t need to understand Arsenals ambition Marko… U are already in love with another Jersey. Unfortunately they don’t have a blog like this where you can show off your knowledge.

Makes sense. Any sort of criticism or debate you’re a supporter of another club. Pretty priceless

  17. Bamford10

Jesus this place. Erdogan is neither an Islamist nor a “jihadist”. He is the leader of the Justice and Development Party in Turkey, which is secular and center-right. The whole “Erdogan = an Islamist dictator” is simply the propaganda narrative promulgated by US/UK imperialism because they no longer regard Erdogan as a reliable ally. Yes, he is trying to consolidate power, & yes he has made Islamist-lite gestures in order to do so, but all of these hysterical claims are complete nonsense. Just like all of the bogus hysteria over Putin, Russia, Crimea, Sktipal.

Some of you really need to read more widely. You’re still uncritically swallowing the propaganda lines of the same voices/forces who brought you WMDs in Iraq and the criminal imperialist invasion and occupation of that country.

  18. Victorious

Max Meyer lol.. Marko? was it who rates him highly

I told him at the time he’s not much better than Wilshere who by the way has since gotten a decent club,Schalke is just about his level

  19. Sanmi

I don’t get the IWOBI hate on here. He’s a young talent that only lacks finishing. Hopefully with good coaching, He’d improve on it. Sterling lacks finishing also. Iwobi has better vision though.
Iwobi is not far off sterling. Sterling is shit as well

  20. Bamford10

To point out the obvious, if we had signed a Keita or Fabinho, a Marko would be overjoyed. He wouldn’t discount his quality because we signed him. This is because his assessment of Keita or Fabinho’s quality is made independent of who he happens to play for. Marko and others here are not tribalists. Those who take issue with his and others’ views are. This is the difference.

It’s the tribalist who can’t see the world impartially, objectively, not the critic.

And by the way, Marko, the criticism of Klopp, the he-hasn’t-accomplished-any-more-than-Wenger-did-when-he-was-being-criticized is simply the Wenger defender’s last stand. That is all that is going on there.

  21. Marko

There were a fair few Max Meyer fans on here recently enough, he’s still without a club I see…

    His wages

  22. englandsbest

Right now Arsenal rate sixth in EPL, the two Manchester clubs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs way ahead of us. A flurry of transfers, yes, but in elite terms, cheapos. You-know-who has gone, but the dead hand of the majority owner is still on the tiller.

So no quick fix by spending billions.

Should a slow-build depress us? Not if it’s a real one, and not a fake like the last fifteen years. Not when you remember £42m for Ozil, £35m for Skodran, for Xhaka, £56m for Laca, etc, etc.

Fixing the environment comes first. The signs thus far are good, though the proof of the pudding Iies in the eating.

  23. Marko

Some of you really need to read more widely. You’re still uncritically swallowing the propaganda lines

I’d be shocked if we didn’t get our news from the same source

  24. Sanmi

Erdogan like Putin and Trump, are really hated by the west because they are no pussies.
Erdogan like Sadam and ghadaffi knew who they are dealing with in their countries. A level of ruthlessness is required. If you oust him like saddam and ghadaffi, you’d create free reign for extremists that will terrorize Europe.

  25. Bamford10

    Sanmi

“Iwobi is not far off sterling.”

Almost as embarrassing as your “multiculturalism will never work” claim and equally embarrassing as many football-related claims you’ve made here.

Sterling is no worldie, but Iwobi is positively average. He’s not a wide player and he’s not a CM. He’ll never amount to anything and Nigeria were better when they benched him.

  26. Marko

Nicest thing he’s said to me. Come back in from the wilderness it’s cold out there. Your penance must be finished by now

  27. Cesc Appeal

The issue with Meyer seems to be the wages he is demanding, he wants about £150 000 a week.

    That is steep.

Guessing he is hoping for an EPL club with more money than sense.

  28. Marko

I told him at the time he’s not much better than Wilshere who by the way has since gotten a decent club,Schalke is just about his level

No you didn’t you don’t debate or discuss anything

  29. Bamford10

    CA

Actually, the universities are pushing the bogus identity politics line, according to which US/UK imperialism is motivated by racism or sexism or some such nonsense. In reality, the US and UK pursue the foreign policy aims they do in order to advance the interests of US and UK capitalism.

  30. Cesc Appeal

Each nation pursues their own interest internationally. Throw some water on me after I pass out in shock.

  31. Bamford10

    Marko

Nah, my life is much better coming by here only occasionally.

Cheers to all Le Grovers, though.

  32. Victorious

I know your memory is as good as that of a goldfish but yeah we did discuss Meyer

You and another poster probably Akilan? saying stuffs like he would come in and moonwalk into our midfield,he’d be the best midfielder at the club.. bla bla bla

    Eagle and I strongly disagreed.

  33. TonyD

Good post Pedro, hope the arm disability isn’t causing too much discomfort and restrictions.

I echo your points re Ivan and can see a few scenarios going on back stage that have possibly been played out for some time.

Ivan severely damaged his brand with his lies and comments over the last few years and especially his handling of Wenger and the club’s finances in the transfer markets and contracts, where as CEO the buck stops at his door.

I’m intrigued to see how this plays out out and who actually assumes the control of running of the club.

If Ivan does indeed stay, he still has a long way to go to redeem himself to the fans and gain our full trust.

So far the transfers whilst far improved in the way the deals have been concluded in a timely manner, they are more of temporary fixes with more squad balance required as well as outstanding contract/sales issues requiring urgent attention.

The next few weeks are going to be interesting and I hope Unai is getting all he needs to hit the ground running.

At least what Unai appears to be doing is very encouraging, and we’ll have a much better picture to asses the landscape after the first 10 games.

I have mixed feelings of trepidation and excitement for the start of the season.

  34. Receding hairline

Nigeria tried to play Iwobi on the wings which was stupid. We did not play better without because we could not hold onto the ball and distribute it well..that is what Iwobi does for us. Rohr decided to sacrifice that for players hr thought could tackle in the middle and it didn’t work.

Please don’t try to speak on things you know nothing about.

  35. Sanmi

Iwobi is an AM. he’s still young. Nigeria played him on the wings. Whenever we played him in the AM, he’s always the man of the match

  36. Marko

Again Vic that doesn’t sound like you. You call people stupid and walk away from debates. You probably saw me discussing with someone else but not you Vic.

  37. UTarse

Wasn’t the whole Ozil/Erdogan uproar because he captioned the picture “My President” ?…. which would understandably piss off the country he represents ?

  38. Marko

Play iwobi where you like he’ll never be anything more than a squad player no matter what club he’s at

  39. UTarse

“Erdogan like Sadam and ghadaffi knew who they are dealing with in their countries. A level of ruthlessness is required. If you oust him like saddam and ghadaffi, you’d create free reign for extremists that will terrorize Europe.”

    You are an utter buffoon.

  40. Sanmi

Yes @redtruth, except you’d accept man utd and pool did not challenge man city last season, also no one challenged Chelsea season prior. See how stupid it’s making you look now?

  41. Marko

Wasn’t the whole Ozil/Erdogan uproar because he captioned the picture “My President” ?…. which would understandably piss off the country he represents ?

Think it was Gundogen. Maybe they both captioned it the same

  42. Victorious

lol Marko in denial haven been shown up yet again not all players who don’t play for arsenal are mustards

no worries mate, anything that floats your boat, carry on

  43. Sanmi

    Utarse
Bokoharam was aided by the Fuckers called Clinton and obama. They ousted Ghadaffi and weapons flowed into Sahara and bokoharam had access to military grade weaponry. Yet the motherfucker called Obama refused to sell us aircrafts accusing us of human rights violations, yet his wife had the effonterry of using #bringbackOurgirls when it was their creation all along

  44. Receding hairline

Lazio are a solid Italian team..I watched them a lot last season and the younger Inzaghi is a manager I admire. There are the ones with an interest in that average player Iwobi. Someone has mentioned here time and again that no squad is filled with world class players

  45. Marko

lol Marko in denial haven been shown up yet again not all players who don’t play for arsenal are mustards

    I rest my case

  46. Redtruth

If memory serves me right the crunch game between Spurs and Chelsea to keep the heat on Leicester ended in defeat for Spurs, so ending any hope of a Spurs title challenge.

  47. Vintage Gun

“Interesting that Henry is looking likely to take over at Aston Villa”

I think Villa will be a good move for Henry so long as the give him a decent transfer kitty. Villa are a PL team in terms of stature, history and infrastructure, and if Henry can get them up next season then it will be a good start for his budding Managerial career.

  48. Marko

Someone has mentioned here time and again that no squad is filled with world class players

Right but if you get a decent offer for a squad player you absolutely take it especially since he’ll never be anything more than that and especially when you can reinvest in an actual player who improves the starting 11

  49. WengerEagle

Eh, I’m not buying the wages excuse, he’s free so straight away if he was a really good player he’d have clubs lining up for him.

Could he really be on much more than 50 grand a week at Schalke as well? Where is that figure coming from.

  50. chucky

If Iwobi is offered a new contract I honestly don’t get what’s going on with all these contracts. Honestly what’s our ambition

marko, what do you expect from a club with just 50 mill as transfer budget. Iwobi might come good now the environment looks more competitive. Keep your fingers crossed man

  51. Receding hairline

It is your view not Emery’s that he does not have any influence. And enough with this starting eleven nonsense… We are playing in multiple competitions.

Sarri didn’t win anything at Napoli cos he insisted on using the same 13 players. Football is a squad game

  52. Cesc Appeal

‘what do you expect from a club with just 50 mill as transfer budget’

There’s an equally strong argument in saying if there is £22 Million on the table for him why would you not sell him as a player who contributes very little to use to buy a better player?

If you sold him and Welbeck, both players who contribute little, and raise £40 Million to put toward a starting winger, wouldn’t that make more sense?

  53. WengerEagle

Worth noting as well that Sarri’s players were in fact Rafa’s players- nearly of all of Napoli’s first XI was signed by Rafa.

Be interesting to see how well Sarri recruits at Chelsea now.

  54. Marko

It is your view not Emery’s that he does not have any influence. And enough with this starting eleven nonsense… We are playing in multiple competitions.

Enough with this starting 11 nonsense what does that mean? We need to improve our starting 11 don’t you see that? Do you not understand that starting players who aren’t good enough will mean we’ll always come up short in big games and over the course of the season. Considering we could probably get someone like Zaha if we sold Iwobi and Lucas Perez it seems a no brainer to me

  55. chucky

Erdoghan like Putin and Trump, are really hated by the west because they are no pussies.
Erdogan like Sadam and ghadaffi knew who they are dealing with in their countries. A level of ruthlessness is required. If you oust him like saddam and ghadaffi, you’d create free reign for extremists that will terrorize Europe.

You’re right sanmi, every country cant be ruled in the same way, look what the west is doing to Iraq, Syria and Libya

  56. Marko

Marko you are not responsible for picking the Arsenal first eleven….with that in mind no one gives a shit what is a no brainer to you.

If that’s the best argument you can come up with for keeping Iwobi instead of selling for good money there’s something wrong with you.

  57. Steiner

    Pedro that’s some reach.
As if Gazadis could have strolled into Kroenke’s office years ago and said “I think it’s time to slide Arsene on…”

A mans gotta pick his time and place for a scrap.
Wenger was untouchable until recently, Jesus a percentage of fans only changed sides last season.!

Very blinkered view, surprised at you.

  58. Marko

Wenger was untouchable until recently, Jesus a percentage of fans only changed sides last season.!

Some still haven’t. Haven’t come to terms with his sacking

  59. Receding hairline

Whatever dude. Your whining on here about the player’s at arsenal is getting tiresome. Some football managers actually engage in what is called coaching.

Maybe Emery is weird that way

  60. KAY Boss

I think it’s the right time for Ozil to respond to this buffoonery in Germany. As Bob Marley said ” no matter where you are born, so long as u are black, u are an African”. it also goes to all race. A person who doesn’t know his identity is lost. like him or not Ozil is our player and IMO has done the right calls against sour and bitter criticism.
I wish Ivan will just leave. He’s a wasted ‘talent’ and he never stuck to his words.

  61. Vintage Gun

    “Arteta not interested? ”

He was but Villa”s new owners checked his CV and immediately deemed him overqualified

  62. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

Not understanding why we are in for a new keeper..?

    Leno
    Cech maybe off
    Ospina maybe off
    Macy

Why bring in summer?, unless seen at first hand we’ve got cold feet on Leno ?

  63. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

    Kay….

What bob track are these lyrics from?

I wish Ivan will just leave. He’s a wasted ‘talent’ and he never stuck to his words.

  64. Marko

Whatever dude. Your whining on here about the player’s at arsenal is getting tiresome. Some football managers actually engage in what is called coaching.

Again you’re not making a good argument for not selling Iwobi for 20 odd million. You’re making no argument

  65. KAY Boss

    RSPCA
“I wish Ivan will leave. He’s a wasted talent and he never stuck to his words” ain’t Bob’s lyrics. its my view on Gazidis’ likely departure. I think u should read thru my previous thread again.

  66. Receding hairline

Because I do not need to make any argument Marko.

Emery has a two year contract.. His head is on the chopping block not mine nor yours…this 20m you speak of where did u even get the figure from? It doesn’t matter ..if the people in charge feel iwobi gets a new contract then iwobi gets a new contract. They haven’t opened it up for debate or have they?

  67. Marko

And if your point is you do not see any positives in iwobi then u are not worth arguing with

I actually don’t mind him. It’s potentially leaving good money on the table like a certain J. Campbell I’ve issue with. Could have sold Jenkinson for 10 million in the past and Campbell for 12 after the previous world cup and we did feck all

  68. Samesong

I don’t care if people are Nigerian and trying to support their boy. Iwobi is not all that. Name me one Arsenal game he dominated from start to finish?? There nothing exciting about the guy.

  69. Redtruth

An assist is beating two players and with pinpoint accuracy finding a teammate to slot home from 5 yards.

Corners or square balls are not assists .

  70. David Smith

Gazidis going is a worry. No queues forming to hire Wenger, could Stan take him back in a role upstairs? Would mean less of that payoff money wasted.

  71. Dissenter

I don’t care whether Iwobi is sold or not.mIf the club decides to extend his deal to preserve the selling potential, then so be it.
He’s just like Elneny; a squad filler.
He’s not good enough to start for any club in the premier league…and that includes newly promoted clubs.
I’m also tired of the over-flogged angle of being Okocha’s nephew.

  72. Dissenter

“Corners or square balls are not assists .”

I agree that crossing a ball into a crowded bunch of josling players for a corner kick should not be considered an assist.
The Ozil-loving people will count the pass that led to a triple-deflected goal as an assist for him.
    Redtruth talking some sense here.

  73. Marc

I’d prefer Gazidis didn’t leave at the moment – not because he’s been some sort of amazing CEO but purely because at the moment we’re just getting the compass realigned and to unsettle that would be counter productive. In a couple of years it won’t be so critical.

  74. Bob N16

I think Marko’s point is valid – if we need to sell in order to buy then excellent money for Iwobi could be worth taking. Personally I’m still hoping Iwobi will improve, this is probably a sentimental view as he’s been with us since he was a child. I think he’s young enough to not have reached his potential but if our finances are so constrained….
If Ramsay and Welbeck are both sold I would definitely keep him. Quick feet, comfortable on the ball, always looking to combine….obviously needs to sort out his finishing.

  75. Bob N16

Dissenter….can’t believe you really think that Iwobi wouldn’t start for any PL team. If you do I’m not sure your comments should be taken too seriously.

  76. Marko

Gazidis going is a worry. No queues forming to hire Wenger, could Stan take him back in a role upstairs? Would mean less of that payoff money wasted.

Not a chance. They just got rid of the smell of him from colney no way they take him back

  77. Bob N16

Gazidis can go as far as I’m concerned. There is a strong argument that he’s been in the job for long enough as it is. There would be loads of candidates lining up to replace him.

  78. Cesc Appeal

    Vintage Gun

You might be right, they might have thought they would have had no chance, surely Madrid, Barcelona etc are the next stop for him.

  79. Dissenter

    Bob
Which team is he good enough to start for?
I’m sorry I hurt your puny Arsenal frailties by saying he’s a squad filler. I didn’t even say he’s crap.
    I’m waiting for your answer

  80. Marko

Not good enough for our English teams but good enough for Lazio

You’re assuming that he would be good enough for them. He could fail at Lazio

  81. Victorious

    Good decision Mesut…

Germany are the losers here, just finished bottom in a world cup group comprising of Mexico,Sweden and South Korea playing turd football..jokes on them at least until they get their act together

  82. Wallace

while I’m confident Emery’s a coach to give young players a chance, it won’t look good if the first player out the door is the only player(bar Bellerin) to have come through the academy in the last 7/8yrs. full Nigerian international on top of that, and only just turned 22.

  83. Marko

jokes on them at least until they get their act together

My ass forces them to play Brandt or Sane now. They’ll be grand better for it in fact

  84. Countryboy

I think some people will make outlandish statements just to be accepted by their “massas”. Iwobi won’t start for ANY premier League club? Really? Smh.

  85. Marc

    Wallace

If we use the money to bring in a better player – the wide player we desperately need for example who won’t he look good to?

  86. Cesc Appeal

Ozil retires from international football, who could have seen that coming?

I think Germany will be better off.

Ozil, Khedira, Muller etc are holding them back. Better off to look to Brandt, Sane etc and then other youngsters and start to rebuild.

  87. Bob N16

Redruth, you’re either a racist and/or a wind up merchant.

How do you explain the success of Germany 2014 or France 2018? 1st/2nd (or 3rd generationwhen it comes to Ozil) immigrants were instrumental in their success. However, you choose to blame, in your spiteful way, the non white Germans for their failure this time around.

You can’t blame the entire Germany debacle solely on Ozil. There were many on here – can’t remember if you were one of them who was calling Lowe out for not taking Sane weeks before the tournament even kicked off.

  89. Bob N16

Dissenter, ‘I’m sorry I hurt your puny Arsenal feelings’.

What a dick splash! What does that insult even mean?

  90. Victorious

Dunno really..he created 7 chances alone in their last group stage game

Profligacy in finishing ensured Germany packed their bags,Ozil than played and was very influential in their run to become champions in 2014

Sane and Brandt although very talented players will struggle to fill Ozils shoes in both experience and creativity and I for one won’t be surprised to see them struggle a bit

Ozil is Germanys major creative hub and Germany are the bigger losers here.

    @Cesc

Your stating the obvious there mate. Iets have a little look at Arteta’s managerial C.V.

1.) I’m Peps left hand man

2.) Arsenal really, really wanted to hire me. Before they chose Emery

    3.) I’m strict

4,) Pedro who owns this massive football blog repeatedly says im “cool” and “cutting edge”. Repeatedly

5.) I trained Raheem Sterling on his finishing over the last year

    6.) Forget number 5

  92. Bob N16

Marc, I’m not sure that we should be reacting to his comments, ignoring him is no doubt the best policy. Any sort of response probably gives him a semi, which gives him something to work with. Not a happy image!

  93. Marc

    Bob

I’m sitting here deciding whether to go with a curry or some of the excellent home made Gazpacho I made yesterday and you’ve just put me off eating – Cheers mate!

I will never understand the whole thing with Arteta this summer. Baffling.

Thankfully sense prevailed. Pedro says the safe option, it was the sane option.

  95. Wallace

    Marc

“If we use the money to bring in a better player – the wide player we desperately need for example who won’t he look good to?”

all the young kids coming through – AM-N, Nelson, Nketiah etc – who look up to Iwobi, and see that if they work hard they will get the chance?

sell Welbeck if you want to raise funds for a winger, not the young guy who’s shown enough promise over the last two seasons to be a more than useful squad player at the very least.

  96. Cesc Appeal

Sane, Havertz, Brandt should be what Germany look to as their attacking midfield.

Havertz was only 18 this season and managed 22 appearances for Leverkusen getting 3 goals and 8 assists.

Germany will be just fine, Ozil is painfully one dimensional for the modern game.

  97. Cesc Appeal

Yeah thanks to Germany for that 2014 formation because that meant Wenger went with the 4-1-MESS-1.

  98. Marc

    Wallace

Well firstly I wouldn’t be surprised to see both of them sold. Secondly in professional sport you’re either good enough or not. You think we’d suddenly be unattractive to youngsters? Just look at those around us (OK above us!).

  99. Bob N16

    Redruth,
    Ozil Khedira, Boateng,
France 2018 the list is too long to mention….

By highlighting ‘Ozil and his ilk’ you simply come across as a racist. Your argument does not stand up. The fact that Germany has previously won World Cups is not an argument.

    Cut out the racist crap.

  100. Cesc Appeal

Iwobi has had two seasons and has been meh, I doubt any youngster will cry over being given two years to prove themselves.

  101. Pierre

“Marko.. You can’t blame the entire Germany debacle solely on Ozil.”

Why not.. Of course ozil is to blame… Marko knows.

  102. Receding hairline

I am not a bit surprised with what I am reading here regarding Ozil and his decision to quit. Not even a little.

I know the sought of people who post here. I think I will call it a night here before I say something I really don’t want to

  103. TR7

‘all the young kids coming through – AM-N, Nelson, Nketiah etc – who look up to Iwobi, and see that if they work hard they will get the chance?’

Iwobi is woefully average. Just because he has come through our academy doesn’t give him any divine right to get chance after chance.

  104. Victorious

“Germany won the 2014 world cup despite Ozil ,not because of him. He was shunted out wide for some reason.”

Wondering why he was even shunted to anywhere in the team, should have been benched altogether, not like he was important to team, even had zero assist all tourney .. after all Germany won the cup despite him not because of him, makes total sense

  105. Pierre

    Victorious
“Dunno really..he created 7 chances alone in their last group stage game”

Chance created stat is a complete load of bollocks..how do I know…. Marko said..
