Is anyone leaving this summer?

Good morning and welcome to the first ever dictated Le Grove.

I don’t want to go on about it but I have broken my arm and any online attention would be greatly appreciated.

Arsenal is being linked with them Dembele again. Just a shame it’s every poverty publication you can imagine putting their name to the story. I love Dembele but struggle to see Barcelona selling the player they purchased £110,000,000 only last summer. I don’t like the idea of us bringing him only for him to have an exceptional season, then to go back to Barcelona to fulfil the rest of his career. It’s a bit like dating Britney Spears before she made the big-time. Or breaking up with a partner of 10 years only for them to win the lottery the next week. OR SELLING YOUR SEASON TICKET LAST FEBRUARY AFTER 10 YEARS.

Also, do you remember the shenanigans of loaning Baptista? The guy was a disaster. Never been so disappointed in my life. I swear that was when the banter era started, how did Wenger think he could ever replace Patrick V with him?

Stories still continue to circulate about our CEO. I wouldn’t say I’m alarmed about him leaving. However, I do find it curious that he hasn’t come out in the press to quash the story. It seems like a bit of a dick move just let the rumor fester especially when such an important season is ahead of us. It really does feel like he is planning to make the season all about him regardless. Does he want more money? Does he want the fans to feel nervous? Does he just like being in the press? Is he getting kicks out finally being recognized as a great CEO? Who knows but it is boring.

Arsene is being linked with the Japan post. I thought he’d be in a job by now, but unless the role is bigger than Arsenal, anything else looks a little bit embarrassing. If I were Arsene, I would look to take over the national role. Maybe help develop an FA In a country that has a lot of potential (and a lot of money). Or just sit around on the beach all day. Recognizing you have hurt your family in the media and not doing anything to remedy it is selfish, in my opinion.

It is worrying there is still no news about how Welsh superstar. How long have the club given him to sign the deal? Transfer deadline date is in 20 days. That is not a lot time to negotiate a big transfer out of the club. That is not a lot of time to find a new player to replace his energy and prominence in the team. I find it difficult to believe the new backroom team does not have a plan in place either way. What is odd, is the seemingly low amount of interest in the services of Ramsey. The Ox was linked heavily to Liverpool last summer. No one is interested in Aaron that I know of. I am not saying That he would not get a move to a good club, merely pointing out that if he did want to go he would be using the interest of the clubs as leverage. Or is this a similar case to Ozil? The player pricing himself out of a move?

So.Much.Mystery.

The club has not sold anybody of note So far. The hot rumours suggest WELBZ, Perez, and Ospina are on the out list. Interestingly Iwobi Is being linked with the move to Lazio. I’m not sure I would feel great about that, He deserves the chance alone for the rest of the players. He has been badly coached, has lots of bad habits, but at core has a lot of talent to offer the team. I also struggle with the notion that a Londoner would want to move to Italy. The English don’t travel very well.

Right, that’s me done, see you tomorrow. Big love from Colorado xxx

unless we make him no. 2 would expect Martinez to be sold, but yeah, maybe Macey as no. 3

Heard he was going to be third choice either way there’s another HG player. Point is we should be good

  2. Receding hairline

A goalkeeper should be judged on the number of top class saves he makes which keeps his team in games.

Errors are subjective.. Once u make up your mind a keeper is error prone any thing he does looks like an error to you.

  3. TR7

I will be pleasantly surprised if there’s any club willing to cough up 20M plus for Iwobi. We need to sell him though. Mikhi plays in the same position as Iwobi, has somewhat a simile style of play and is miles better. I don’t think he is going to get many opportunities.

I like Welbeck but spate of injuries has halted his progress as a footballer. He is in his last year of contract as well. Probably we will sell him too.

I thought Xhaka and Mustafi would be the first two to be offloaded by Emery. Xhaka ain’t going nowhere by the look of things. I hope at least Mustafi is sold. We are not going to do well in the league with Sokratis and Mustafi as our centre back pair. I know it’s honeymoon period for Emery but I have a feeling he hasn’t handled our defense issues properly at least in terms of personnel.

  4. Victorious

“Throwing one into your own net is just a euphemism for a goalkeeping mistake.”

A goal Keeper throwing the ball into his own net or a ‘goalkeeping mistake’ which is rather more harsh?

Is either you don’t fully grasp what is ‘euphemism’ or how best to use it, no offense

  5. Ishola70

    No.

It’s no good a keeper making saves to keep his team in the match if he has obvious weaknesses elsewhere and is also costing goals.

The balance has to be right.

If we go along that route Cech would still be undispusted No.1 because as much as people slag him he still makes his fair share of saves that prevent goals. It’s just so happens that his weaknesses are more evident now.

  6. Marko

That’s the other thing you can rate Welbeck all you like (why?) and you can like him but the fact is he has a year left and you either sell or give him a new deal. And he absolutely shouldn’t be getting a new deal. He’s not a good wideman and as a back up striker I’d prefer Nketiah given the opportunity

  7. Receding hairline

Can’t remember the last time Cech kept us in a game by making critical saves. He seems to concede from the very first shot on target..is slow off his line and is pants with the ball at his feet.

So your comment on Cech above is way off ishola.

  8. Michael24

It’s going to be interesting to see the atmosphere at the Emirates when we play MC.

Passion/Noise/Anticipation/Excitement and a few new songs along the way.

One hopes that there’ll be no memorial chants “There’s only one Arsenal Wenger”.

Anyone who breaks the rule should be ejected from the stadium.

  9. Receding hairline

The funny thing though is no one was that bothered with Leno until Liverpool spent 66m on Allison who by the way isnt worth that…Monchi called it an out of market offer..then followed by one report of a mistake in a behind closed door 60 minute rotation friendly ..and we are back discussing Leno.

  10. Ishola70

    No Mr Hairline

Cech still makes saves that prevent goals and keeps the team in the game.

Whether those saves ultimately result in a victory for the team is a another matter.

Many fans are blinded now to anything positive Cech does or has done for the team. It’s because he is blatantly past his best and there is no great love for him really because of his past Chelsea connection.

If Leno makes obvious errors and too many that cost the team then he will be benched for the old Czech boy I’m afraid.

  11. Michael24

Cech became a liability the day he got injured.

Unfortunate thing to say but it was one of the reasons Chelski were willing to let him go.

Macey needs to be given opportunities.

    A great prospect.

  12. Michael24

When and if Cech needs to go in where it hurts, you know he won’t.

    That’s been obvious for years.

  13. Ishola70

    Mr Hairline

Not just this error in the friendly match.

And nothing to do with the Liverpool signing.

This reported error was just another matter that was added on to Pedro quoting a save to shots ratio from last season in which Leno was not impressive in. Actually quoted it a few months before Pedro.

Jury is out on him Mr Hairline. Question marks.

  14. Michael24

The line to the crucifixion scene(Monty Python- The life of Brian) should be applied when entering the Emirates.

Those of you who have seen this comedic classic would understand.

“Love Unai and freedom to the right, Wenger lovers and crucifixions to the left”.

  15. Marko

To be fair Leno was a question mark for some before Alisson signed for Liverpool. I think it’ll have to be a question of wait and see with him. It’s very easy to jump on his back when you hear of a mistake in a behind closed doors match with no cameras. It could be blown out of proportion

  16. Marko

First and foremost my responsibility is to make this club as successful as possible. It’s not about pushing through my thoughts or saying ‘No, I don’t want to buy players, I don’t want to pay big money’ and then in the end Liverpool FC is not successful. We have a really good team, a really good squad and to improve it is expensive. To find better players than we already have, they aren’t waiting around the corner.

Now I know why certain types around here have a bit of an agenda against Klopp I mean he’s basically the complete opposite of Wenger. The Anti-Arsene

  17. Receding hairline

Yes you quoted it many months ago and then u drag it up after a report on a behind closed door friendly and then proceed to exaggerate by saying he dropped the ball into his own net when in fact that was not what happened.

Like many have pointed out Leno was a highly rated goal keeper who stagnated.. If Cech ends up taking his place as number one then good on Cech..Leno still has time to get back to his best or be moved on.

  18. Mark

    @Chihuahua
Just an observation!! Fuck right off with that Shit. Shoulda gone to Specsavers you racist Cunt.

Then trying to play the .. don’t be a snowflake… Free speech shit. Like I say stuff about Irish people too. !

You’re an ignorant cock ,who thinks he’s clever. Sound like the perfect EDL supporter.

    What???

    Just an observation.

  19. Ishola70

    No Mr Hairline

Pedro recently posted about the saves to shots ratio regarding Leno.

    Not just me.

Pedro posted it more recently than me.

The Pedro post on this generated discussion about Leno at the time.

As Marko said Leno is another wait and see signing along with Big Papa.

  20. Michael24

    David Smith

It’s going to be hard for a few of them.

“No! No! I mustn’t show my true feelings. I mustn’t”!

  21. Receding hairline

And while we are at it the way some go on and on like iwobi is some pub player is pretty disappointing. The same folks who cried for months on Twitter because Wilshere was let go are the ones saying iwobi must be sold. Both of them grew up at Arsenal so I wonder why the difference in treatment.

  22. TR7

Liverpool in my view have the best starting 11 in the league. Mane, Firmino, Salah, Fabinho,Keita,VVD and Allison are all very good players. Lallana, Milner, Arnold, Clyne, Shaquiri,Sturridge and Ox are handy players. It will be interesting to see if Klopp signs another central defender. If he plugs the hole in central defense, Liverpool can go all the way.

  23. Receding hairline

Obviously ishola I mean signings who were made this season in the premier league who are not wait and see in your opinion.

Cos in my book any new player is wait and see but it is obvious you see it differently

  24. Ishola70

No signings are guaranteed success but the Torreira signing is the one I like most.

This is because Torreira has certain characteristics that will not just fade. He is naturally aggressive and a busy player. His job will be to do just what he has done so far in his career and with this sort of character it is unlikely that these positive attributes of his disappear
He could have some problems initially settling in but overall looks a good purchase.

  25. Ishola70

There are some concerns though that Torreira will be asked to do too much defensively in the team. Too much onus on him.

If this is the case it will soon become evident watching the matches.

  26. Marko

And while we are at it the way some go on and on like iwobi is some pub player is pretty disappointing. The same folks who cried for months on Twitter because Wilshere was let go are the ones saying iwobi must be sold. Both of them grew up at Arsenal so I wonder why the difference in treatment

Think you’ll find most around here are happy Wilshere is finally gone so I don’t know what you’re on about and the fact is Iwobi will never be anything more than just a squad player at best and with that in mind if we got a decent offer for him we should sell

  27. Receding hairline

Your notion of three defensively minded midfielders who can all tackle and defend will never catch on in football ishola. The team has to learn to defend as a team.

I know the Torriera being asked to do too much thing is to divert us to your favorite subject so let’s just stick to the topic.

And I said signings in the premier league who u believe are absolute certainties to light up the league

  28. Marko

    No signings are guaranteed success

I dunno you kind of get what you pay for and if you pay good money for a good player it generally works out. Basically I’d be shocked if Naby Keita for example didn’t end up being a brilliant signing because he’s that good and being going that way for a few years now. Same with Fabinho. I think Fred might have a question mark over him purely because of Mourinho I think he’s lost the touch if I’m honest and he’s a cunt. Most of West Ham’s signings are very meh if I’m honest i only one I think will be good will be Issa Diop. Can see Anderson wanting out inside a month. Hard to know how Chelsea will do with Jorginho. Of our signings I’d be confident of Torreira because of the type of player he is and I think Leno will do well maybe a bit slow at first but be a good signing. Sokratis could be good but could be a disaster especially with Mustafi

  29. Marko

Marko of you read properly u will notice where I said Twitter.. I was never talking about on here

    Irony. If course Receding

  30. Marko

The same folks who cried for months on Twitter because Wilshere was let go

Also months? He’s been let go less than one month…

  31. Cesc Appeal

As someone said yesterday unless he wants to go somewhere for guaranteed first team football why not sign Hart as back up GK and competition to Leno for just £5 Million? You can sell Iwobi and Welbeck then for about £40 Million and not have home grown issues.

You would basically trade out Ospina for Hart, might even make a tiny profit.

Use the £40 Million raised together with other sales to try and land a Coman, Costa, Cuadrado or someone bigger if a deal can be worked out.

  32. Ishola70

    Receding hairline
“Your notion of three defensively minded midfielders who can all tackle and defend will never catch on in football”

Why do you constantly mislead and lie on the blog for.

I have never asked for three defensively minded midfielders. I may have mentioned the French National team in regards to a midfield being more defensively minded but not outright said that Arsenal need or want three defensive minded defensive midfielders.

    Perhaps two but never three.

Now are you going to apologise to me and the blog for outright lying and misleading?

    Doubt it.

  33. Marko

Your notion of three defensively minded midfielders who can all tackle and defend will never catch on in football ishola. The team has to learn to defend as a team. I know the Torriera being asked to do too much thing is to divert us to your favorite subject so let’s just stick to the topic.

To be fair United have Matic and Herrera who can be classed as ball winners Pogba too has ability in that area (better defensive actions than Xhaka I believe). City have Fernandinho but are so good at pressing and possession they don’t really need that many in their starting 11. Chelsea have Kante and Bakayoko and now Jorginho and possibly Loftus cheek. Spurs have Dier and Dembele and Wanyama. Liverpool have Keita and Fabinho and Henderson and had Can. And we had up until Torreira no one. Now we have one ball winner in there could probably do with another hence Nzonzi over Gomez.

  34. Ishola70

    Marko
“I dunno you kind of get what you pay for and if you pay good money for a good player it generally works out”

Yes the percentage for failure can drop when paying bigger money for a player.

Don’t let Receding hear you say this though.

He is under the notion that all players start level pegging regardless.

This is because Arsenal are restricted this summer to a certain price for a player. Not in the high bracket shall we say.

  35. TR7

I am with you Cesc on Hart. I think he is a good keeper who is not only good enough as a back keeper but also as a first choice.

  36. Cesc Appeal

    TR7

I think he will bring more leadership as well, that would be Lichtsteiner, Sokratis and Hart added over the summer who will be voices and leaders in the squad.

If we finished the window with Hart and Coman I would be very happy.

  37. Marko

CA some of the quotes from Hart suggests that he wants guaranteed football which means he’ll play for a shit club soon enough otherwise as a backup he’d be a decent shout. I honestly don’t know what to believe with the keepers anymore. Ospina is off that one is for sure and apparently Cech is interesting Chelsea and Roma? He’d want to stay in London right? And how much would Sommer cost? Hate to think we could end up spending 30+ million on goalkeepers. Also don’t want it to drag on

  38. Ishola70

Hart does a lot of shouting but he is not a true leader.

A lot of his shouting in the past was to hide his own insecurities.

Bit like the deep lying playmaker we have in the side atm.

  39. Cesc Appeal

Seems there are big hopes in the club for Smith Rowe, that will be a player to watch. Emery has taken him on tour and will likely give him some games in the cup ties and Europa League.

  40. Marko

He is under the notion that all players start level pegging regardless

It’s ridiculous thinking. Keita has a great chance of success because he’s a good player in a good team surrounded by other good player. On the other hand Wilshere at West Ham could go either way

  41. Cesc Appeal

    Marko

That’s why I think £5 Million, Hart stays at a club with profile and might well feel he can beat Leno to take the starting spot. Good for us either way.

But I have read that Sommer is very good in possession for a GK and that is the reason Guardiola got rid of Hart and is something Emery will want in his GK. The ability to play out from the back.

  42. Marko

Seems there are big hopes in the club for Smith Rowe, that will be a player to watch. Emery has taken him on tour and will likely give him some games in the cup ties and Europa League.

Another home grown player. Also I personally wouldn’t be happy with ending the window with Coman and Hart. Could probably do with another midfielder sure but I’m honestly worried about the CB’S. If Sokratis doesn’t work out or any injuries in that area and we’re fucked. Don’t trust Mustafi one bit jury is still out on Chambers and Holding is simply not ready to start consistently at least.

  43. Receding hairline

The irony of calling me a liar and then asking for an apology ishola. You really love playing the victim don’t u ?

Fabinho is the only defensive midfielder in a team that won the league last season. Marko is pointing to a Man utd midfield that was pants last season..how many games did Herrera play exactly ..owner why his name was mentioned

Bottom line is you are just looking for an excuse to discuss your favourite player all over again.. Its been a few days u haven’t spelt Xjaka and I know its beginning to bother u .

  44. cezan1afc

I think alot of posters on here need to give leno a chance first see how he plays your commenting on a game behind closed doors for crying out loud. Also please dont forget that De Gea upon arrival srruggled a little conceded alot of goals from distance but in his second season began to cement himself as one of the best keepers in world football. Patience is key and we all know how knee jerk some of our supporters can be.

  45. Marko

Cesc can I be honest with you I hate the playing out from the back sweeper keeper shite we keep hearing these days it does my head in honestly especially as a reason to sign someone. The only thing I want from my Goalkeeper the only strengths he has that matter to me is can he save does he have good reflexes and can he command his box especially on corners. It’d be a plus if he didn’t punch the ball either. I hate the whole my Goalkeeper has to be able to pass the ball like Modric crap

  46. Ishola70

    Receding

Man City are a special case.

They have a very good manager and they have spent millions upon millions to get that team in Guardiola’s light.

If you want Arsenal to be Man City lite continue with your narrative regarding lack of interest in defensive matters in midfield.

Or maybe you do have interest but just want to argue with me again today.

Was it you that wanted N’Zonzi signed and said all eggs shouldn’t be put into one basket in relation to Xjaka? Think it was.

Or you might mislead and lie again and deny it.

  47. Marko

Seems there are big hopes in the club for Smith Rowe, that will be a player to watch. Emery has taken him on tour and will likely give him some games in the cup ties and Europa League.

I’m talking about a certain type of midfielder that many successful or balanced squads have and that we have lacked. Also I think you can class Gundogen as a ball winner. Point is that we only have one in our squad could probably do with another no one said anything about having 3 by the way. Torreira and Nzonzi is way better than Torreira and Andre Gomez or Xhaka

  48. Cesc Appeal

    Marko

I think Emery wants that though, I’ve read that a few times. It makes the team a little less predictable. We have sort of seen that, Cech is only able to kick it downfield but then I suppose if our players were actually coached and motivated they should be closing that down when kicked downfield.

I would also like another CB but I don’t see it now unless Mustafi goes.

  49. Receding hairline

Dunno why you are using the word lie over and over again like holy water.

Yes I like Nzonzi and have advocated for him over and over again. He can actually do more than just break up play in case you haven’t noticed.

What City a special case..does money spent absolve a team of defensive responsibility? They defend by keeping the ball and pressing.. A tactic than is effective but can be exposed. You do not know Emery’s plan yet neither do I . we all have players we would like to see brought in…what differentiates you and I is I don’t think my opinions guarantees success…u think yours does

  50. Marko

Marko I have observed you cannot write about Keita without the phrase he is that good. You seem completely besotted

Totally. The guy has been playing at a high level consistently for about 3/4 seasons now. Klopp and Mane convinced him to go to them over Barcelona and PSG. If we signed him he’d be our best midfield purchase since Vieira

  51. KAY Boss

some posters always envisage other teams’ players over what we have. if Xhaka had moved to say Chelsea, what will we have said about the team at that time. Xhaka was/is not a bad player like some say so are some of our players. just that at a moment in time even the best are criticised and no player is devoid of criticism.
Good or average players are sold to get better ones. everyone has a genuine point on every single player in this team.

  52. Marko

They defend by keeping the ball and pressing.. A tactic than is effective but can be exposed. You do not know Emery’s plan yet neither do I .

No way we can do a high press like City no way. Especially with Ozil and Xhaka in the team. Even Mhiki too if we’re honest. I’m sure going forward Emery would like it to be that way and it’ll probably take him a season to figure out certain players don’t fit in to that type of game plan. Which is why I think it’s make or break for Xhaka this season and I’d be shocked if Ozil was here next season.

  53. Receding hairline

Much like ishola and his pal Xjaka ..

Whatever you say about Ozil Marko does not register with me. I don’t like it when someone simply hates a player.

He has just released a statement on the Erdogan pics ..long story short he says if he meets Erdogan again he will take another picture. Lol

  54. Ishola70

    Receding hairline
“Yes I like Nzonzi and have advocated for him over and over again. He can actually do more than just break up play in case you haven’t noticed.”

Well if you are only interested in the aspects of N’Zonzi away from defensive duties why not just stick with Xjaka and forget about him.

Why would you sign N’Zonzi and potentially drop Xjaka for? For what reasons?

  55. Marko

Whatever you say about Ozil Marko does not register with me. I don’t like it when someone simply hates a player.

You’re an idiot we were talking about City and a high press and Emery even said himself he wants his team to win the ball back quickly implying a high press. And for us to do that we’d need to talk about certain starters. You see that’s the problem with certain types like yourself you see genuine criticism of certain players as hate just hate fuck debating what another person says they just hate. You need to grow up. Also I don’t really care about the Erdogan stuff. That’s the least of Ozil’s problems

  56. Receding hairline

takes one idiot to know another Marko. I repeat you hate Ozil…

Ishola maybe I like Nzonzi better? I would have signed him before he moved to Seville..I would have bid 35m for him before I bid for Xhaka. That does not make Xhaka a bad player ..simply means I rate Nzonzi higher

  57. Marko

takes one idiot to know another Marko. I repeat you hate Ozil

Man you are full of lies today. Where have I written I hate him? I think he’s a bit shit and doesn’t give a fuck about the club but nothing about hate. Again I say certain types cannot accept any sort of criticism about certain players they just dismiss it as hate. It’s pathetic really. Rather than make a case for Ozil in a high pressing team you just dismiss it as hate.

  58. Ishola70

If the question is too difficult for you to answer Receding and I think I know why it is hard for you to answer maybe some of the other posters can help.

What aspects of N’Zonzi’s play is he seen to be twice the player of Xjaka?

I’ll give you a clue it has nothing to do with him on the ball or passing.

  59. Ishola70

    Nah can’t be.

Receding would not want a player in the team who is just so much better defensively.

Has to be more than that. Or does it?

Come on Wengerite spill the beans.

  60. Ishola70

Wenger will be turning a whiter shade of pale at this time.

No sooner is he out the door then fans are actually wanting a midfielder who can defend.

    Blasphemy.

  61. Receding hairline

There is actually more to Nzonzi than simply defending ishola….so don’t know why you are crowing. Nzonzi is more mobile and disciplined… Xhaka is a better passer of the ball though.

Marko Any statement that refers to Ozil as a shit footballer is one made with hate and spite.

  62. Wallace

    Marko

“Chelsea have Kante and Bakayoko and now Jorginho and possibly Loftus cheek. Spurs have Dier and Dembele and Wanyama. Liverpool have Keita and Fabinho and Henderson and had Can. And we had up until Torreira no one. Now we have one ball winner in there could probably do with another hence Nzonzi over Gomez.”

if you’re classifying Dembele, Jorginho & Loftus-Cheek as ball winners then I don’t see why Xhaka & Ramsey can’t make that list. and don’t see the need for N’Zonzi as well as Torreira.

  63. Victorious

“If we signed him he’d be our best midfield purchase since Vieira”

What an utter embarrassing post to make’
Shows the little you know about football, yea like fvck he’d have been our best Midfield purchase since viera

    stick to PlayStation.

  64. Ishola70

Don’t be ashamed now Receding. It’s ok.

Everyone knows that N’Zonzi over Xjaka makes the midfield better disciplined and that is from a defensive viewpoint.

Let it out. It’s ok. We are here for you.

  65. Ishola70

    Xjaka a ball winner?

Get out of it with that nonsense Wallace.

Seen him shut his eyes when going into challenges.

    Some ball winner.

  66. Receding hairline

I repeat there is more to Nzonzi than just defending.

Two me rating him above Xhaka means absolutely nothing. Unlike you I do not think my opinions or ratings really matter in the grand scheme of things. You on the other hand believe everything u write here is gospel.

By the way do u also believe Ozil is a shit footballer. The official LA Liga page still tweet about him till this day. Man is an artiste yet he is supposed to worry that certain posters don’t rate him on le grove. Lol

  67. Victorious

Nzonzi is a another glorified water-carrier,we have Torreira doing the dirt work in midfield already, don’t need another player who’s only major strength is making short and sideways passes allover the pitch

A Xhaka-Nzonzi combo will be embarrassingly one paced, no dynamic, no dribbling when pressed back, no midfield play,no mobility..etc

not a fan of Gomes but it’s quite obvious why Emery will prefer such a player to Nzonzi

  68. Ishola70

You didn’t even answer the question.

Everyone knows that N’Zonzi is twice the player Xjaka is defensively.

He is not twice the player of Xjaka on the ball or with passing.

Therefore N’Zonzi would be wanted by any fan over Xjaka primarily because he is better defensively. Unless they are true Wengerites and don’t like to admit it.

    Stop dodging.

“Xhaka actually wins the Ball back a lot”

lol so why the fuck would you consider signing N’Zonzi and dropping Xjaka for then?

Not only is Xjaka a playmaker he also wins the ball a lot. Sounds fucking good to me. Tip-top.

  70. Marko

if you’re classifying Dembele, Jorginho & Loftus-Cheek as ball winners then I don’t see why Xhaka & Ramsey can’t make that list. and don’t see the need for N’Zonzi as well as Torreira.

Dembele and Loftus Cheek are ball winners and Jorginho is more than that but he can tackle for sure. And to be honest considering the amount of arguments we have about defensive signings over the last couple summers I’m not at all surprised that you don’t think we need Nzonzi. One ball winner is enough sure. Considering the fact that we conceded 60+ goals the last two seasons I’d say we do need more. Highlighted by how many our rivals have. It’s called balance

  71. Marko

What an utter embarrassing post to make’
Shows the little you know about football, yea like fvck he’d have been our best Midfield purchase since viera stick to PlayStation.

Wonderful point as always Victorious. You’re getting better at this whole debating stuff you know

  72. Victorious

Nzonzi for Xhaka? Dunno could maybe see some sense in that, but as a pairing? no way.

small wonder the Nzonzi rumours died a joyful death the moment Xhaka signed on, there is more to having a balanced midfield play that having two 6ft plus giants in front of the defence with the turning abilities of a walrus

  73. Marko

Nzonzi is a another glorified water-carrier,we have Torreira doing the dirt work in midfield already

Hasn’t even kicked a ball yet for us. And you make an argument for Fabinho and Keita not being guaranteed to succeed? Certain types as I say

Like a boss lol. Bet Ballack and Gambon are on suicide watch

  77. Victorious

“If we signed him he’d be our best midfield purchase since Vieira”

Why should I bother with a plonker who comes out with a statement like this, nothing here to debate upon I’m afraid

Get your mouth off the scousers arse and just MAYBE you might start coming out with more intelligently and objectively balanced comments

  78. Ishola70

You see the problems here with some fans.

A player being brought in to help the team defensively is referred to as doing “dirty work”

Wenger has a lot to answer for.

  79. Victorious

You are just the worst “football fan”.

lol very rich coming from u Marko

the guy that throws all objectivity into the bin to literally big up any player not doning an arsenal’s shirt

Wenger has a lot to answer for.”

    Don’t get this

What has Wenger got to do with Torreira coming into a midfied to be the spoiler

is the word ‘dirty work ‘ you have an issue with?

    Did he invent the word?

What are the likes of Kante, Casemiro,Allan etc doing for their teams? would their style of play between much difference to that of Torreira?

    Enlighten me

  82. Ishola70

Wenger has got nothing to do with Torreira coming in that’s right.

Wenger would not have even considered signing him.

This is a manager in his last season that was playing without a responsibly sound defensive midfielder.

And people wonder why Arsenal finished so low and conceded so many goals.

Torreira is necessary. He is not doing dirty work. He is doing necessary work.

  83. Carts

“As someone said yesterday unless he wants to go somewhere for guaranteed first team football why not sign Hart as back up GK and competition to Leno for just £5 Million? You can sell Iwobi and Welbeck then for about £40 Million and not have home grown issue”

Not a bad shout t all.

I think JH needs to consider all factors, here.

He’s pretty much lost his squad position as an England GK, unless Butland and/or Hope are injured or suffer a serious lack of form.

His contract with City, being c.£100k p/w is running down.

Interest in him has been non-existent for the most part.

Signs for Arsenal as #2 and he’ll probably be promised cup games, which in the grand scheme of things isn’t the worst.

What we do know is that Emery isn’t afraid to drop someone based on poor form. That’s essentially Areola got his chance over Trapp.

  84. TR7

‘He has just released a statement on the Erdogan pics ..long story short he says if he meets Erdogan again he will take another picture. Lol”

Shouldn’t be allowed to play for Germany ever again. Doesn’t sing their national anthem, meets a Jehadi dictator and still has the cheek to act brazenly.

  85. Marko

Why should I bother with a plonker who comes out with a statement like this, nothing here to debate upon I’m afraid

Is it because you can’t debate? Because you’re too stupid?

  86. Dissenter

Why didn’t Ozil make this statement before the World Cup, in the days that followed t(e meeting with Erdogan?
He must know his days with the Herman national team are over, same as his special status in German society.

I don’t blame him though. It’s his right to meet whoever he so pleases. It’s no different from Dennis Rodman’s friendship with Kim Jong-un.

  87. Marko

Why didn’t Ozil make this statement before the World Cup, in the days that followed t(e meeting with Erdogan?

I’d say like a certain man in power he did it thinking that it wasn’t a big deal and only after so much criticism that didn’t blow over did he make a statement. Probably written for him. Basically if he didn’t see it as a scandal waiting to happen then he’s as stupid as he looks.

  88. Marko

It’s no different from Dennis Rodman’s friendship with Kim Jong-un.

He’s seen as a bit of a joke though and Özil is seen as a role model some as he’s still a professional sportsman. Appearences and all that. Put it this way I can’t imagine if Steve Jobs was still alive he’d be in too many photo ops with Al Assad. The optics alone

  89. Marko

For the record I don’t think it’s a big deal at end of the day but he should have made a statement a lot sooner like Gundogen did. Gundogen made public statements about it early July before the world cup Ozil July 22nd. People could read it as not caring

  90. Receding hairline

He attended an event and too a pic with the president of Turkey. Turkey is the country where half his family live.

Theresa May recently took a pic with Erdogan too…was she endorsing him?

Germans are acting very weird over this pic..this from a country that adored Hitler.

  91. Receding hairline

Go and read the second part of Ozil’s press release…the DFB looked around and decided to put their world cup failure on one person alone. Politicians ran with it. Sponsors withdrew….The world is going to shot over political correctness.

  92. Victorious

    Not at all Marko

You’re obstinate as a mule and simply not the worth the effort.

Don’t kid yourself, you don’t debate about football but rather you follow a negative stereotype of downplaying and ridiculing the club the slight moment something positive is mentioned, not to add your obvious hard on for the scousers or as a matter of fact any club not named arsenal

I’ve seen you venture into a debate and it always serve for comical relief because you’re either always getting schooled or shown up as a plastic fan,lol

  93. Ishola70

    Poor Ozil

I’ve yet to see him donning a lederhosen while simultaneously supping a large steiner and munching on a thick bratwurst all the while omitting loud farts.

No wonder the German nation are in uproar against him.

  94. Marko

Germans are acting very weird over this pic..this from a country that adored Hitler

Exactly. They know a totalitarian when they see one. Also this narrative certain types say of Germany pining their world cup failure on one person in Ozil is completely false. You must have missed where Khedira and Low and Muller got fair criticism. But no it’s only Ozil

  95. Wallace

yeah, Bierhoff and others hung Ozil out to dry after their WC exit. would be surprised if he plays for them again.

  96. Marko

The world is going to shot over political correctness

Right wing Germans have the biggest problem with it. You think they care about political correctness

  97. Victorious

Ozil will do well to quit national footy at this stage,he’s always been made as the scape goat any time Germany falters, unforgiveable the way he’s been lambasted by both the German and English media after exiting the world cup

The real culprit ‘Loew’is still hanging there while Gundogan who also took a pic with Erdogan has received less criticism in all of this is also not shocking

  98. Marko

yeah, Bierhoff and others hung Ozil out to dry after their WC exit. would be surprised if he plays for them again.

    Again this narrative

  99. Cesc Appeal

Never mind, I bet Ozil can’t wait to get back to double training sessions and all that high tempo pressing play.

Just wait until Ozil is made a scapegoat for Ozil’s lazy performances this season. Typical.

  100. Marko

Given you plenty of chances to debate and time and time again you hide Vic. Also you calling someone a plastic fan is hilarious

while Gundogan who also took a pic with Erdogan has received less criticism in all of this is also not shocking

Gundogan responded at the time with a statement, explaining his position and saying it was not his intention to create a political issue with the photo.

Ozil, however, has never commented on the issue even after meeting German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and stayed away from a media day in the team’s pre-tournament training camp in Italy.

Gundogen addressed it early July. Ozil July 22nd. After the world cup. After his holidays. The optics are he doesn’t care

  101. chucky

We have fans on here who are talented moaners, it disgusts me on how Leno makes one mistake and the fans on here are all screaming “crucify him”. Pool got Allison…. The grass is always greener when the player doesn’t cost us 100 million, remember how many on here were praising wengers balls when he bought xhaka and mustafi

  102. Dissenter

I’d say German society knows a despot in the making when they see one.
Erdogan is a totalitarian tinpot tyrant.
When he came to DC last year, his security staff beat up Turks who were carrying placards in front of the Turkish embassy, in the full view of the media with cameras rolling. They were promptly flown out to avoid prosecution. If they can do that in the full view of the media in the American capital, think of what they are doing in Turkey right now.

  103. Marko

I thought chucky was digging out Ishola there but then he said praising Wenger’s balls for signing Xhaka and I thought nah

  104. Cesc Appeal

Hasn’t Erdogan basically undone all the secularising work that Turkey had done prior to him taking power?

I mean that’s never a good thing, that’s like falling back into the Dark Ages.

  105. Dissenter

    Marko
    I agree.
Gundogan manned up, Ozil was cowardly to wait until now bemire his statement about having “two hearts”
German society placed him on a special pedestal to celebrate their inclusion society. That’s why many are outraged.

  106. Marko

There’s certain types who no matter what never criticise Ozil and go to war anytime anyone even remotely criticises him. Basically substituted Wenger fanatics for Ozil ones. God I hope he gets the finger out and actually performs this season otherwise it’s going to be a long season

  107. Dissenter

    Cesc,
“Hasn’t Erdogan basically undone all the secularising work that Turkey had done prior to him taking power?”

    Yes he has.
He’s also gone from mayor of Istanbul to president of Turkey for life.

Ozil ought to realize that his Turkish descent is not tied to Erdogan. There’s a lot more to being a Turk than posing for a picture with a depot.

Surely you must know that we can’t just turn the spigot off.
Emery will still have to break away from the looming shadow of Wengerism.
The fans haver to learn a different way to think about Arsenal.

  110. mysticleaves

Other players were mentioned once or twice but the press has stayed on Ozil.

  111. Wallace

    Marko

“Also this narrative certain types say of Germany pining their world cup failure on one person in Ozil is completely false. ”

    ….

“One could argue Ozil’s extraordinary ability and important position on the pitch require much more than an acceptable performance — “with great power comes great responsibility,” as the line from “Spider-Man” goes — but that can’t explain why the 29-year-old has been singled out for especially large doses of vitriol by sections of the German media.

Ozil’s effortless, floating style and slouching shoulders have long been a red rag for all those who prefer their footballers as testosterone-fuelled warriors. This goes much deeper, however. On June 19, Lothar Matthaus’ insistence in Bild that “Ozil doesn’t look happy in the Germany shirt” after the Mexico defeat was juxtaposed on the tabloid’s cover with President Trump’s claim that “the people of Germany are turning against their leadership” due to crime perpetuated by immigrants…

What followed was a torrent of xenophobic abuse aimed at Ozil, the son of Turkish immigrants. He has been subjected to vile abuse by right-wing party AFD, while a representative of the player told ESPN that more than 200 abusive emails have chimed with those discriminatory sentiments…”
