ARSENAL JUST SIGNED TORREIRA!

Emery said this:

“In Lucas Torreira, we have signed a young player who is a very bright talent in the game. A midfielder with great quality, I have enjoyed watching his performances for Sampdoria in the past two seasons, and we all saw him do very well for Uruguay in the World Cup. He is a young player already with good experience, but who wants to keep on growing. We welcome Lucas to Arsenal and look forward to him joining us soon for pre-season.”

Finally, a DM that has the potential to dominate our midfield for years to come!

I can jump into commentary like this:

Because ‘garra charrua’ means that we give all we have inside. We give all we have to our football, our jersey and our country. We do our best because every time we enter the pitch we represent our family and friends, the most important people for us.

You’ve all been there, you’re 8 years old, you’ve just scored a 20-yard own goal, you’ve let your mates down in the cup final, you know your lunch money is going to be taken for the next three years, but your dad is there…

‘Son, fuck what they think, you could be the next Ian Wright, you have the talent’

Kind of felt like that moment was happening listening to Arsene Wenger talk about West Ham’s Jack Wilshere.

“Jack Wilshere is a playmaker,”

“He is a bit of a Messi type. He makes me think about Mbappe because I played him at 17 years of age because he was an exceptional talent.

“Unfortunately he has been stopped very early by big injuries to his ankle, and I believe that now he’s come out of it. He’s an exceptional player — he can pass people, he can give a final ball, he has a fantastic football brain.

I’m not sure even if you were squinting through a prism of rose after 6 bottles of wine you could draw those comparisons, but hey, there we are. It’s sweet that Wenger is still gunning hard for the players who didn’t quite cut it under him.

Gary O’D, from the Arsenal Medical Services team, announced that Chris Morgan was joining the backroom team. He comes over from Crystal Palace after 2 years service as Head of Physiotherapy.

‘Huge welcome to Chris Morgan who has joined the First Team as our Head Physiotherapist. Chris has come from Crystal Palace where he was Head of Physiotherapy for the last 2 years. Chris also held the same post at Liverpool for eleven years so brings a wealth of experience to us.’

BIG MOVE there son. I don’t know how you write about someone like this, but I thought this farewell not from Liverpool when he left them said a lot.

“Chris is someone who commands the professional respect and personal warmth of the first-team players and all his colleagues at Melwood.

“The dedication and commitment he has shown to Liverpool, over a long period, has been immense. His expertise and experience has rightly gained him industry-wide recognition.

“We thank Chris for his considerable contribution and everyone at the club wishes him success for the future.”

Apparently, Stevie G mentioned him a whole bunch in his book, I’d imagine because he spent a lot of time putting him together again (the piece here). Anyway, I’m sure he’s very good. Arsenal has a very talented bunch of people in that backroom team. I think they’ve been unfairly critiqued over the years with ignorant opinions about how injuries happen and how you should prevent them. Good luck to him, he’s certainly got a lighter workload after some of the exits this last year!

I still think the club might try and sign a wide player before the window shuts. I’d love it if we dropped some dime for Dembele on loan, but as Matt said on the podcast last night, that’s a banter era move for a club trying to show off its elite wings this season.

Right, that’s me done.

Lukaku hasn’t shown up today.

alexanderhenry

Ok, ok, Giroud’s been pants tonight. Let’s not get obsessed with it though. He’s not even an arsenal player anymore

Dissenter

Giroud has had a better game that Griezmann

This Uruguayan chihuahua/ Aubergine lad is pretty dim, like a 0.25w bulb.
He’s posting to abuse people for doing what he’s doing. Talk about being separated from reality.

alexanderhenry

Anyway,

I don’t like France.
There is no flow to their game. They are very defensive and quite ponderous. They rely on the odd spark from their star players who are good enough individually to make things happen

Radio Raheem

I’ve had more of an impact on this match than Chadli

WengerEagle

M’Bappe up to his old tricks again. Neymar rubbing off on him.

Dissenter

The core of his French team lost the Euros final so they’ve been here before.

Radio Raheem

Come on France!!

Sancho Monzorla

Belgium didn’t really show up after the first 15 minutes or so.

Dissenter

Mbappe plays like a 27 year old.

Marko

No surprise that DeBruyne goes up against Kante and has his poorest game. Kante is amazing never stops moving

WengerEagle

Congrats karim, deserved win for your boys tonight!

zeus

France to beat Croatia. England will lose in normal time.

WengerEagle

Only Hazard and Courtois come out of that 2nd half with any credit.

Pretty hopeless stuff. France better all over the park and deserving winners.

Receding hairline

Lukaku was proper shite today. Dembele and Chadli along with him. This France team aren’t naive.. They managed the game wonderfully.

Giroud was Giroud..slow in most things he does.

Redtruth

Comfortable win. Matuidi man of the match. Could of been 2 or 3-0 had France not put the handbrake on.

Dissenter

Poor Rabiot
He’s be wondering why did I throw a tantrum.

Dissenter

France didn’t even have to go to second gear.

Denisk Birdkampf

Griezmann has had a poor tournament so far, by his standards, looks miserable as heck, was the same in the Uruguay match.

Receding hairline

I didn’t think De Bruyne had a poor game today. That ball he fizzed towards Lukaku should have been met with a diving header

raptora

Martinez deserved to lose this game. Playing Chadli ahead of an absolute peach of a player like Mertens. Not letting Dembele get some moment in the previous games but throwing him in the deep. Subbing Fellaini when you are behind and you can just cross the ball in their box to him.

Freaking lucky game vs Brazil. 4/5 times they lose that game.

Anyways, France didn’t dominate THAT much, but definitely deserved to reach the final after winning vs 3 strong teams. They will be a worthy winner. Not a team from the other side of the draw.

Goonah

all the chavs, spuds, scums and sheiks in belgium has to play for the bronze on saturday. 120 min. loosing on pens would be great. a few calf strains mby. all good

Radio Raheem

Matuidi, Mbappe, Varane, Umtiti, Pogba, Lloris, Kante – Men of the match

alexanderhenry

The game was close- not buying France as particularly deserving winners.
They edged it. Fair enough.

Redtruth

“I didn’t think De Bruyne had a poor game today. That ball he fizzed towards Lukaku should have been met with a diving header”

A robot couldn’t have got that let alone a donkey.

Radio Raheem

Pretty even first but second half France nullified Hazard and with that Belgium.

Receding hairline

Don’t know how some watch football..Greizmann is the leader of this French team. Drops deep..orchestrates things. Its not all about the goals

Goonah

*scums = mancs

raptora

I don’t see Griez’s worth. He has a fame for being among the top offensive players in the world, but I’ve never liked him that much. He isn’t super fast, isn’t tall, doesn’t have good gribbling skills, doesn’t have a top pass in him, doesn’t even play with the ball that much but is cool with hiding. He’s some type of a shadow forward or whatever that FIFA thing is. I would never spend a 100m on him if I had them. Probably like 20 other players before I even consider him.

Cesc Appeal

Is it going to be Mbappe that Madrid go for instead?

raptora

CA,
With Ronaldo gone – yeah, it’s either him or Neymar. Probably Neymar imo. Doesn’t look too happy in Paris.

Redtruth

“Matuidi, Mbappe, Varane, Umtiti, Pogba, Lloris, Kante – Men of the match”

France played Belgium not masters of the universeXI

WengerEagle

Hard to see England or Croatia being France, would give England more of a chance.

WengerEagle

Beating*

Marko

I didn’t think De Bruyne had a poor game today. That ball he fizzed towards Lukaku should have been met with a diving header

By his lofty standards it was.

HillWood

So now we know
It’s an England -France final
C’mmon England

WengerEagle

Good few Dembele nuthuggers on here, he was awful today, real weak link in CM.

T

Giroud missed a couple of important chances. On the other hand he put in a huge performance on defence and you could see that Deschamps was really pleased for his effirts despite not scoring.

Denisk Birdkampf

Yeah De Bruyne was just a bit off his game, although the movement ahead of him wasn’t as good as recent matches.
So with Lukaku out, does that pretty much guarantee Horse face Harry the golden boot?

Redtruth

Croatia will school England and beat France in the Final.

raptora

Red, they must be tired though. 2 penalty games in a row.

Guns of SF

England will win. Raptora is right that croatia team is exhausted.
I can see them hanging in there for the first half, but slowly fade in the second

Coach 15

I’d say Mbappe gets you more bang for your buck considering his age,but he’s a Paris boy,and may have the chance to be top dog if Neymar leaves.

Redtruth

Fuck off, England relying on Croatian tiredness will backfire big time. lol

Guns of SF

The English great hope Harry Kane will score a hat trick redtruth

Dissenter

England will beat Croatia, quite easily. I think the ease of the victory will surprise many.
It’s going to require a perfect game to beat France though. They seem to have learned how to manage games at this level.

HighburyLegend

“come on France hang on !”
lol you can’t invent that kind of bullshit.

Paulinho

Knowing the Croatian team as I do I fully expect them to play very well tomorrow night – much better than the previous two games at least. They know people are expecting them to be tired to they will turn up with a nothing to lose type mentality and I expect their ball-playing midfielders to relax and take confidence from the fact that England are absolute shite technically and easy to control in midfield, especially for a team with the potential of Croatia.

Expect Croatia to put in their flat performance if they get to the final.

Samesong

The World Cup will be won on a set piece.

Redtruth

All i can say is Croatia will not have a better opportunity to reach a World Cup Final.

HighburyLegend

I feel sorry for England if their destiny is to lose the final against the luckiest team on earth.
*ridiculous opponents in the group stage
*Argentina with a ridiculous defence
*Uruguay without Cavani + an awesome mistake from the goalkeeper
*saved by Lloris vs a poor Belgium… ultimate joke.

Dissenter

Red is a Martian living out his days in London.

Guns of SF

Harry Kane will demolish Croatia

Guns of SF

Harry Kane is coming look out!!!!!

Leedsgunner

If Juventus are going to start flogging their fringe players to pay for CR7’s ridiculous transfer fee what about us putting in a couple of cheeky bids for Marko Pjaca (a young left winger) and Moise Kean?

Or if we dare going big what about Douglas Costa? In my opinion, he is the most underrated player in the Brazil squad right now.

Surely Kronke could give us a few £100m from the back of his sofa? It’s chump change to him right?

Leedsgunner

I’m going to put it out there that M’Bappe is going to win the Balon d’Or before Neymar does… the boy is going to be that good… and without the diving!

To think Wenger turned him down at 17… because he thought £7m was too steep… yeah right. So much for his ability to judge a player’s potential!

Redtruth

HighburyLegend
*ridiculous opponents in the group stage
*Argentina with a ridiculous defence
*Uruguay without Cavani + an awesome mistake from the goalkeeper
*saved by Lloris vs a poor Belgium… ultimate joke.”

*ridiculous opponents in the group stage: Peru would have demolished England

*Argentina with a ridiculous defence: Got duly punished by conceding 4 goals to France.

*Uruguay without Cavani + an awesome mistake from the goalkeeper: Again, Uruguay would have beaten England

*saved by Lloris vs a poor Belgium…A poor Belgium team who topped England’s group.

Leedsgunner

£99.2m for CR7 — at his age? They must be desperate to win the Champion’s League.

gambon

Cannot believe the difference in our transfer business since we took Wenger away from it and brought the new guys in.

Leno
Sokratis
Mavropanos
Lichsteiner
Torreira
Guendouzi
Mykhitaryan
Aubameyang

All signed. I doubt ANY of these guys would have come in with Wenger in charge.

I don’t think these guys are winning us the league, but apart from City, I think we have as much chance of finishing 2nd to 5th as the rest.

Dissenter

It seems Guendouzi’s transfer is formally confirmed.

Leedsgunner

We need to sell, sell, sell now. Get rid of the dross.

Guns of SF

Still need that winger.
I hope it happens
I hope we sell a lot of shit players too

gambon

I hope we sell and use the funds for a marquee attacker.

I think we will be a bit too reliant on Auba for goals. We need someone else in the team that can regularly score.

Mykhitaryan, Ramsey, Ozil are patchy goalscorers, usually having average seasons.

Guns of SF

Gambon
Ditto that.

Need another true scoring threat

Dissenter

gambon
“I think we will be a bit too reliant on Auba for goals. We need someone else in the team that can regularly score”

You really are one cheek dude
You seem to have forgotten that we spend 46 million on a certain bearded fella from Lyon.

Dissenter

*spent 46 million*

gambon

Dissenter

A fellow from Lyon that plays in the same position as Auba.

Dissenter

gambon
nice try…
…a fellow from Lyon that plays in the same position as Auba —-who has a history of regularly scoring.
I’ve always believed that we don’t need two elite center forwards and that the money can be better spent else where like on an elite winger.
However Laca has a track record of regular goal scoring.

Redtruth

HighburyLegend

Lets examine England’s World Cup campaign.

Drawn in the weakest group.
Couldn’t beat Colombia in regular time.
Beat a fuckin usrless Sweden. Lol

gambon

Ok Dissenter

I think we are gonna rely too much on our CFs for goals.

Man City’s wide players scored nearly 40 league goals last year. Liverpool’s scored over 40.

I think we need at least one AM who contributes regular goals.

Welbeck, Iwobi, Mykhitaryan and Ozil will score about 15 combined.

Leedsgunner

We so so need a free scoring winger to support our attack. A younger version of Mertens would be ideal — ironically Alexis when he first arrived at Arsenal would have been superb in our present team.

Leedsgunner

“Cannot believe the difference in our transfer business since we took Wenger away from it and brought the new guys in.”

Indeed. So much for be careful what you wish for!!!

Dissenter

gambon
I agree with the premise of your post
Goals from other areas of our attack; Mykhi can be that goal scoring AM if he actually starts to show up. Ozil will keep up with his stats-game by notching up assist and declining to put himself in goal-scoring positions.
The winger is the last bit of business for us. I’l l be happy with an exciting young talent from Mislintat’s scouting. We don’t have the funds for an elite purchase.

Dissenter

Spurds have the highest number of players left in the WC.
That’s going to affect their start to the season, combined with the hassles of a new stadium.

gambon

Dissenter

I hope we push for Martial.

Would cost maybe £50m, Juve were said to be interested but probably not any more.

We can easily raise £50m.

Leftsidesanch

Gambon

You know Jose would rather sell his soul than strengthen us with Martial. That being said, was his problem with AFC on whole or just Wenger?

Childish Gambino

FFS! Torreira takinf number 11 jersey. Leno shouldve let him take 19. Torreira statred his career as a CF but his samp coach cahnged his destiny for him. Anyway, unless Pep leaves City i dont see anyone taking the league from them. With Mahrez they’re even stronger. (Hate that Pep is a squad padding WC players) Was cheekily hoping for a weakened team for the season opener. None of their English, Spanish and Belgian contingent. Need us to still sell: Jenks, Akpom, J.Campbell Loan out: Holding, Iwobi, Nelson to prem teams like Cardiff etc. Nketiah to EFL We absolutely need… Read more »

Left

Think it was Wenger.

UTD can’t expect to buy from other top clubs but refuse to ever sell. Esp with players on 1 year left.

If they refuse to ever deal with other big clubs, other big clubs will refuse to sell to them.

Clearly no-one will be moving between UTD and City or UTD and Liverpool.

With transfer price inflation the big teams will inevitably have to start dealing with other big teams.

Pierre

2 things Var.. Not a mention all night.. Part of the game now except the dodgy premier league of course. And, is it me or are the only players slated by commentators And pundits for their performances in this world cup,Arsenal players. Xhaka and ozil… were they any worse than dembele or debruyne tonight.. Not a word against them… Did dembele and debruyne keep giving the ball away… Nothing.. Not a word of criticism. Plus.. Imagine if giroud was still an Arsenal player and put in a performance like that.. The pundits would have given to him with both barrels… Read more »

“Need us to still sell: Jenks, Akpom, J.Campbell”

…for a combined 5 million tops.

raptora

I would take a younger Alexis and put him on our right flank in a heartbeat. Current squad looks to tick a lot of boxes but not that one. A phrase from the good old Wenger reign – we could be 1 player away from finishing the puzzle. In a modest Arsenal way ofc. No oil money for us. And we should have sold that dwarf Lacazette already. Get a top notch winger and solve the freaking puzzle. HL, Were Belgium your dark horse? France outplayed them not super convincingly but did look like the better team in every side… Read more »

Cesc Appeal

You could test the supposed interest Mourinho has in Ozil and offer him and money for Martial.

Childish Gambino

@Dissenter

1 million each & 100% of their wages off for them 3 would be a steal ROFL

Dissenter

Jenks had a chance to move to Crystal palace. He refused the move because they offered less that we pay him.
That was one the many times that Wenger’s stewardship of transfers and wages should have been ended.

Pierre

Mahrez arrival at city means the end of sterling at city…

Childish Gambino

Right now I’d happily trade Ozil for any decent left footed right wing forward with decent to solid potential: Rony Lopes, Samu Castillejo, Schik, Suso, Malcom etc

raptora

None of the quoted wingers really excite me. Even Martial is a wild card, but his ceiling should be very high if he finds his place in a team. The rest of those quoted players are pretty dire – the Martins, the Pavons, the Lozanos.

Zaha would at least not need any adaptation time, and although raw, he could do the job. Palace will definitely want their big payday though – around 50m pounds surely.

Martial with the little he’s done would be around 70m probably as well.
Mental. Wingers are the most expensive players in football.

Childish Gambino

@Pierre

Sterling can & will play sometimes next season in CF. City play extremely wide and bar Aguero and KdB madnesses, 85% of City goals are tap ins from low crosses. Any idiot with positioning can excel there. Look at how Gabriel Jesus looks like a good player, playing for City but is trash for Brazil. Even Sterling couldve added like 10 more goals to his tally last season if his finishing wasnt so poor in some games

Aguero has been crocked. May still possibly be sold to RM.

gambon

Martial has 1 year left. No way is he gonna cost £70m.

Childish Gambino

All i want is a fairly quick, very tricky winger that can deliver atleast 5 goals & 10 assits. I dont think thats impossible for Sven to find this summer

I really hope RM buy Hazard from Chelsea & United buy Willian. That’d weaken them immensely. Also hoping Abramovic decides to cash out from Chelski

Dissenter

Sterling scored 18 goals in he league last season.
City will never release him.

Marko

Xhaka and ozil… were they any worse than dembele or debruyne tonight.. Not a word against them… Did dembele and debruyne keep giving the ball away… Nothing.. Not a word of criticism Ozil played in two games was shite in two games and Germany lost those two games. DeBruyne has been involved in all bar one of Belgium’s games on the way to the semi final and he was a major factor in them beating Brazil. He’s actually been brilliant the last few seasons while Ozil has stuttered the last couple years. Basically they’re both not even remotely on the… Read more »

City did offer 60m for Alexis last summer if memory serves me right.

Sancho Monzorla

The World Cup hasn’t even finished and so much of our transfer business has already been confirmed. Fucking unfathomable situation even a summer ago. You have to think with Ronaldo moving the bigger pieces of the summer will start shifting over the next few weeks. Arsenal could still have one splash left to make, fingers crossed. If players like Martial aren’t in Jose’s plans then United would be stupid not to sell a player that can leave on a free next season, they are a rich club but they didn’t get that way by making stupid decisions. raptora

KdB has been the best player in England for couple of season now. Ozil hasn’t even be in top 20 as far as contribution goes. Pretty bad for the (once upon a time) best number 10 in the world.

Carts

Pep’in hell. I like Mahrez, but is he really the answer to whatever it is City need…plugging?

That’s £60m, already.

Followed by another £50m for Jorginho = £110m

Mind you, they just made £10m from their unknown keeper Angus Gunn. So at this rate their net outlay will come in at around £80m which isn’t bad, considering.

gambon

Raptora

Alexis was the best player in the PL when City offered £60m for him.

Sancho Monzorla

Lol Pep has not given a fuck how much anyone has cost since he’s gotten to City. All the signings he’s made I think he’s overpaid for.

Carts

I would say all, but he’s overpaid with some.

Good value:

Bernardo Silva
Ederson
Jesus
Gundogan
Danilo
