Wide player seems like a priority

Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil is apparently back in the mixer after his iffy first game against Mexico. Mr Löw said this of the German’s reaction.

“After the match against Sweden, Ozil showed a great reaction in training, as I expected from all who didn’t play,”

He’ll start the game against Korea as Germany chase qualification in a tournament they’ve certainly stuttered in so far. Good for you Mesut, I hope you make 6 assists.

Argentina made it through to the next round beating out Nigeria late on. It looked like Maradona had dropped an 8 ball of something special up in the crowds, there are rumours he’d been hospitalised after the game. The man must have some tolerance at his age, he must have a few bag men to get the fucked up during a game.

Ever Banega had Arsenal fans panties all up in a twist as he ‘liberated’ Messi (perhaps he hospitalised Maradona?)… he even popped up with an assist. That’s what I call World Cup window dressing. I’d take him, he’s experienced, he’s fiery and he has levels to the class in his game. If Arsenal are shooting for top 4 next season, we need to bulk out with experience. I’m just not sure I’d be happy paying £17m for him.

In other news, Kike Marin, the Spanish Ornstein, reckons we’re going for Lucas Vazquez of Real Madrid. It seems we’re keen on a wide man, and according to reports, we’ve made a decent financial offer for the player. These sorts of rumours usually happen when the client is looking for assurances. The Spanish wide man bagged 7 assists and 4 goals from 16 starts, which gets makes me damper than Wayne Rooney’s back on a Mega Bus trip. At 26, he’s at the right age, he’s never going to be more than a squad player for Madrid, so it’d be a good move for him.

Great to read that we’re going hard at signing in some additional attacking players. I’ve been wondering if the lack of sales is to do with the coach waiting to see him players in the flesh? Will there be a late July fire sale after a week? Or did the club do it’s big shifts in January?

All very interesting. I’m tapping out, lots of work to do. See you in the comments.

I believe it was similar to the UK in that labour was imported from abroad to help fill gaps in the jobs market.

Germany had many Turkish settlers due to the relationship between the two countries at the time. As a consequence there is a very very large Turkish population in Germany due to this.

Ishola70

Turkish nationality law.

Turkey claim Ozil as one of their own.

I do wonder if it kicked off between Germany and Turkey whether Ozil would skip back to Turkey and be in their trench lol.

The calling is strong.

Barking Arsene

If it kicked off Germany and Turkey would be trying to pass him back to each other lol!

I think he would settle in the Turkish trench though out of choice once they got bored of passing him around.

I hate politics and I certainly don’t follow it.
Not from biased media outlets with hidden agenda anyway..
All I know is the Germans have no right to put their nose in other country affairs..
Just like the USA or Russia or any other so called super powers.
The Turks didnt invade Poland or went to illegal war in iraq..
Jochaim Low screwed this tourney for them not ozil, not boateang not muller and definitely not erdogan.

So ya everyone should take a chill and discuss football and tactics..

Sancho Monzorla

Germany were allowing everyone into their country after WW2. You know, image issues and all.

Barking Arsene

“I think he would settle in the Turkish trench though out of choice once they got bored of passing him around.”

Yeah maybe – They would just use him as a flagpole I reckon.

Guns of SF

Judge Ozil on his playing performance and not his ethnicity or religion.
Neither of those things impact his playing ability..

Yet some on this site continue to spout the same bullshit prejudicial BS non stop, like an annoying child trying to get attention

Pathetic

Barking Arsene

Anyway, if you think the Turkey Germany thing is complicated, you should check out the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus issue……

That is for another day though!

Anyway, I think this all began with everyone saying Mesut is shit, but wasn’t the most shit German at the World Cup?

All agreed?

G8

Hi Alex
My post was for some posters suggesting only White Germans should play for Germany and ozil an co have no business to..
And no I didn’t say I condone turkys allying with the naziz..Just explain how Germany has huge population from Turkish origin and so other European countries have considerable population from their previous colonies.

Alex Cutter

“Anyway, I think this all began with everyone saying Mesut is shit, but wasn’t the most shit German at the World Cup?”

Works for me.

Alex Cutter

G8 — copy that. Thx.

Ishola70

Where do these people come from?

Who has suggested on here that only white Germans should play for the German national football team?

Nobody.

Barking Arsene

Yeah I don’t think anyone said people shouldn’t play for their country of birth, just that footballers should try not to have photos taken with well known Dictators.

So that’s it on this issue.

Carts

Lost £50 (and missed out on £200) because Hummels couldn’t direct his fucking header.

More importantly, Germany really fucked up.

Lack direction and cohesion.

Tired performance. And I’d imagine Lurve will lose his job.

Ozil was shite as we’re several others. But what surprised me was Sqwaka claiming that Ozil created 7 chances.

Irrespective of that, Ozil is a big game bottler. Considering how little defensive work he’s expected to do, he offer literally nothing bar alleged chances created.

The man can’t even shoot, ffs. Sad times. He’s Emery’s problem now.

Black Hei

Ozil did his job in that match.

He was clearly tasked to drop deep alongside Kroos to dictate the game which he did fairly effectively and dare I say, worked his socks off.

The problem is further up front who looked incoherent.

I don’t blame Hummels for bombing up field. He had to make those runs in order to outnumber the Koreans in the box.

Germany is still depending on a super old Mario Gomez and a formless Thomas Mueller.

TonyD

Ozil obviously has still got what it takes but it is his attitude and desire that most of us take to task. When he was playing for his new contract he turned it on in most games proving why we should keep him, but as I and most thought this was short lived once he got his contract. I don’t think we can judge Ozil on his WC showing, as the team was so poor collectively however, as many posters here have said it is up to Ozil to prove he should be kept at Arsenal and that is also… Read more »

I think Unai wants Xhaka for his passing ability.

Yeah, he is slow and all, but not many can hit the ball like him.

An interesting stat to get, would be the speed of the ball when Xhaka hits it long.

It is one thing to get high pass completion, but I think Xhaka’s passing is not just fairly accurate, it is very fast as well.

I don’t think you can find this on Whoscroed; but this is probably the reason why Emery is keeping him.

Guns of SF

also keeping him for his size, and with Torreira sitting back, to have him play more an offensive role with that passing you mention…
he is a defensive liability. Hopefully the new coaches can help

OTOH im liking the idea of Banega more. Great last game he had… he seems up for it and seems like a solid center mid

Dream10

Very happy that Germany got knocked out. They have multiple quality passers in the >85% range, but very little running from deep like a Ramsey, pacey wide men or a forward who can create space in tight areas with class movement or a clever touch. Find it very disappointing that three historically best national sides in Brazil, Germany and Italy are struggling to produce #9s and support strikers who can score at least at 1 in 2 rate. Tired of too many teams playing for 65% possession and emulating Xavi, Busquets and Isco. Not everybody can keep the ball at… Read more »

Barking arsene, That’s a good summary mate. Crazy how politics works. To think once the EU supported Erdogan as he was seen as one of the most progressive politicians from Turkey now looks pretty funny. Also interesting is the geographic division in most countries. The urban modernised east Turkey is mostly anti – erdogan, whereas the rural, not as developed Anatolia is pro – erdogan. We all are aware of the north- south division in USA. Even India has a somewhat similar geographical division, the landlocked not as developed northern states are pro right wing. Whereas the south, though fairly… Read more »

SF,
Yes mate. Uruguay are the favourites over Portugal but CR7 will have his say.

Their defense is superior, have not conceded in 2018. Their forward line on paper is the best in the world. As long as they field a balanced working midfield, they’ll be fine. Unreal mentality too. Can’t wait to see what CR7 does against them. IMO, the tie of the R16.

Akilan

Also, I’m rooting for Uruguay in this tourney, mainly because of Torreira. Uruguay apart from Suarez is a pretty cool team.

Dissent my post till the cows come home, that’s fine.

The curious case of Ozil will live long. Chance Creator Extrodinaire , but fuck me, it’s still not enough.

I’ve been critical of Ozil as have 90% of LG and about 90% of ex-pro and pundits. He gets a rough ride, and I genuinely felt for him last week but then you compare what he does to, literally, every other thing he’s incapable of doing and that’s where the alarm bells start ringing

Biased opinion! Ozil, Boateng, Khadira are not true Germans and should not play Germany! yet, Welbeck, Alli, etc…can play for England?

Ishola70

Who actually said on here that Ozil and Boateng should not play for Germany?

Wenker-wanger

For Pierre, the ozil opinion is clear from those that have a good overview of life and its various ingredients that produce positive results in many life aspects. Talent without application and hard work is a flaky attribute. Ozil has super talent at timing a pass, weighting a pass and accuracy. His skill is beyond anyone’s doubt. However, football demands a whole lot more than one skill aspect. It it was just a one-skill beats all game, then a keepy-up juggler could get into any side. Ozil has many flaws such as work ethic, tackling, heading and most importantly spirit.… Read more »

Very good question.

What’s the fuss about? Of course Ozil and Boateng shouldn’t play for Germany.

Neither should the rest of that terrible squad.

BA.. not in terms of quality but eligibility

Barking Arsene

Sorry Leftside, just a poor attempt at a joke.

Black Hei

I guess Ozil gets so much smack because 350k is usually in the region of guys who can carry the team.

Like Zidane, young Cesc or Salah.

It seems a bit too much for essentially a support player; despite him being a very good one.

And come on, I think he works pretty hard. He just don’t scream and shout or ball hog.

“that we are going to work hard”

Ozil is in an absolute panic right now, looking for some obscure, undetectable medical conditions he can fake.

BacaryisGod

Jeremy Wilson in the Telegraph (well-connected to the club) has written that we’re on the verge of wrapping up Torreira and extending Ramsey’s contract. According to Wilson, that will wrap things up for us in midfield at least.

Marko

Pierre will be on suicide watch with the news that Ramsey is close to signing a new deal. Hey I’m not happy about it either but at least it will get to Pierre so every cloud has a silver lining I guess

gonsterous

no idea where all this ozil hate began ? I enjoy watching him play. Without him, sanchez would have been half as lethal.

Leedsgunner

Özil has not been right for months… and he’s quickly going down the same path that Arshavin did. It has nothing to do with his ethnicity but his attitude.

The club needs to do something to get him back to his best. If Emery can get him firing again on all cylinders he would be proving himself a worthwhile appointment.

A top consistent Özil would be worth a £150m, at least, crazy market.

Marko

So we really have a collective effort now, in terms of how we identify players and then how we take forward our interest and of course Unai is a huge part of that as well. This is now a different way of doing things, one with a very, very accomplished team of professionals who we have spent time bedding into the club.

A dig at how we used to do our business under Arsene perhaps

Leedsgunner

*in this

Barking Arsene

Anyone think that he (Ozil) may possibly suffer from depression?

Might go some way to explaining the random absences and “injuries” that he picks up. Maybe the club just gave him some time off that time he was photographed on “holiday”.

Not looking for excuses for him or anything like that – it’s just sometimes he really doesn’t look right and doesn’t strike me as being a particularly strong character.

Chika

Ozil might appear lukewarm on the pitch but he actually doesn’t give a fuck about what people say. He will go on luxury trips at any time of the year and still post pictures for everyone to see. If Arsenal DECIDES to indulge him then he has every right to grab it! He’s a quality player and hopefully, Emery gets the best out of him.

Leedsgunner

If Özil must be criticised on yesterday’s performance, it has to be on his lack of courage. From time to time, he hides behind his assists king image and he doesn’t shoot when he should… electing to pass to a team mate.

He cannot keep doing this… he needs to step up and take responsibility.

Özil will no doubt be savaged… despite playing relatively well yesterday — especially compared to his teammates. It was a failure all round… not just Özil’s alone.

Barking Arsene

“From time to time, he hides behind his assists king image and he doesn’t shoot when he should… electing to pass to a team mate.”

Was saying this the other day – would be interesting to see how many times he passes to a teammate when in a position where he has a “chance” to score himself.

Early in his career he was much more confident taking on a shot. Not sure what’s happened over the years.

Victorious

Marko

“Pierre will be on suicide watch with the news that Ramsey is close to signing a new deal. Hey I’m not happy about it either but at least it will get to Pierre so every cloud has a silver lining I guess”

Totally uncalled for, sure you ain’t this vile and unpleasant outside the internet?..you practically made Binford(not his slightest of fans) stopped coming here..seriously need to take a hard look on yourself.

Marko

Anyone think that he (Ozil) may possibly suffer from depression? Absolutely not. Zero evidence to suggest that he suffers from depression it’s a cop out that. Every disappoinment in football could be blamed on depression if that was the case. Fact is I just don’t think he wants to play for Arsenal he doesn’t want to be here but at the same time no one’s willing to make the move for him. He faces criticism from sections of German fans now not because of a one game or one tournament but because much like Muller and Khedira and one or… Read more »

HighburyLegend

@gonsterous : you are probably talking about the player that Ozil was when he has signed, a few years ago…

And I wouldn’t really talk about “hate” regarding him… it’s just that his salary are totally indecent for what he do on the pitch – when he dares to do something else than just walking with his head down.

HighburyLegend

Marko

How’s that vile Vic? Clearly tongue in cheek I doubt very much if Pierre would contemplate suicide when Ramsey signs a new deal. I mean Xhaka signed one and Ishola is still alive and well. I mean I hate the thought of both players still being at Arsenal next season but I wouldn’t care that much.

Marko

you practically made Binford(not his slightest of fans) stopped coming here..seriously need to take a hard look on yourself

More Charlie than me but I get that you sometimes fall in line behind him so you wouldn’t want to openly criticise him

Barking Arsene

Marko

Not suggesting that he definitely does, but the discussion last night about him being the poster boy for the immigrant generation in Germany plus his status in Turkey might just weigh down on him.

Or it could be like you said he just doesn’t want to be at Arsenal any more (or even in the first place).

Third possibility is that he just gave up because we were shit. Maybe he will have a new lease of life under Emery. Hope so as he undoubtedly has the talent to play a major role for us.

Chika

“Anyone think that he (Ozil) may possibly suffer from depression?”

I don’t think you can fully tell a player’s true character by their actions on the pitch.

Who would think Danny Rose, the marauding all action footballer was having depression issues.

Beyond the football pitch, Ozil doesn’t strike me as someone who would continuously brood cos of fans ill feelings towards him.

Anyways, we’re stuck with him. I sincerely hope Emery has a plan to extract the best out of him.

Barking Arsene

“I don’t think you can fully tell a player’s true character by their actions on the pitch.”

This was partly why I asked – it’s not so much the way he plays, more the mysterious injuries that he picks up.

It’s possible that he does and the club don’t even know.

Like I said he could just as easily be a lazy cunt as well!

HighburyLegend

“Anyone think that he (Ozil) may possibly suffer from depression?”

Do you mean, due to AW’s departure ?
Sorry, not funny… (??)

Marko

I would say Emery’s plan will be to either sell him or hope that he does enough in the coming season to get sold next summer. He’s not here long term wise and I mean with him and Mhiki and Ramsey and all these players signing on I mean we can’t play them all at the same time. Are we playing with three in the middle? A CAM behind the striker? No CAM but two wingers? I can’t see going forward us playing Ramsey and Mhiki and Ozil on top of a new winger and two CF’s I mean something… Read more »

Barking Arsene

“Do you mean, due to AW’s departure ?
Sorry, not funny… (??)”

No, I meant does anyone think he possibly suffers from depression seeing as he takes random time off fairly regularly, can play well for spells and then his form completely disappears for chunks of time.

Inconsistency is normal in football but the excessive time off just made me wonder, given his status and the amount of shit he takes on a regular basis.

I don’t joke about mental health if that’s what you are asking though.

HighburyLegend

No I’m not asking that.
Got a pill to relax ??

Barking Arsene

Don’t need a pill to relax.

Not being rude just sure what you are asking then and what “isn’t funny”?

Cesc Appeal

Xhaka, Torreira, Ramsey will be the midfield then it seems.

Really want to see what Ramsey can do with a real manager and coaches.

He has all the physical and personality traits to be great he just needs someone to coach some maturity into him and positional awareness.

Interested to see what Emery can do with Xhaka as well.

We’ve let Wilshere and Cazorla go, that is a start.

It seems like they are trying to get all the buys done first so we’re not caught in the position we usually are.

Going to be much happier when Torreira actually signs add to that Vazquez, Martins or Pavon and we’re in decent shape.
