VAR bringing the drama + Arsenal signing confirmed in Italy

VAR is BACK in the spotlight.

Originally, fans were worried they wouldn’t be able to cheer goals (that turned out wrong). Then they were worried the drama would be sucked out of the game (so SO wrong). Now, they are FURIOUS that sometimes the human looking at the replay doesn’t get it right. THEY WANT HUMANS GETTING IT WRONG WITH NO REPLAYS BECAUSE IT FEELS RIGHT.

The Iran/Portugal game ended up a draw when the ref incorrectly called a handball on a player who handled in the box when he couldn’t really see what the fuck was going on. Sometimes refs give it, sometimes they don’t. I didn’t think the decision was right, but I was glad the ref had a full understanding of what he was doing.

For me, I love VAR. Neymar shouldn’t get away with being really good at cheating. The hopeful offshoot of that is maybe they’ll start thinking more about putting on a spectacle than trying hoodwink the ref and the fans.

One of the reasons we need VAR is because outside the sheer speed of the game, players were getting exceptionally talented at cheating. Look no further than the Champions League final. Ramos freely committed ABH on Karius early on and concussed him into errors later in the game. He also judo rolled the arm of the hottest player in Europe so he couldn’t carry on. Who felt good about the CL result? Who would have felt better if the dark arts of the games weren’t of value?

Most of us, unless you’re the sort of traditionalist that preferred the good old days when you didn’t have to wear a seatbelt whilst you were driving the wrong way down a dual carriageway way on 3 pints of Super T.

VAR is already var better than it was in the Bundesliga. There have been huge jumps in efficiencies already. Give it 2 years and the refs will be watching replays on their armPads or some shit like that and the whole process will be way quicker. There is no joy in shite decisions, there is no justice in a system that consistently rewards those who cheat really fucking well.

MAJOR news about Torriera. Not only did he rock 94% pass completion for Uraguay as they toasted Russia, his Sporting Director is on the record as saying he’s left the club.

“Tomorrow we will have our first meeting with Giampaolo and that is when our transfer window starts. An excellent player like Torreira has left us but we will replace him. The squad will be company will be competitive as always.”

The PERFECT news. A real DM. What a moment.

Ever Banega is on our radar according to Ed Maylon. He says the club have no intention of selling him unless someone comes in and pays his massive release clause of £17m (for a 29 yr old).

‘A high-ranking Sevilla official told The Independent on Monday that Banega is not for sale under any circumstances, and they are planning talks with the player on his return from the World Cup to reassure him that the project at the Sanchez Pizjuan is the best place for his talents. They also believe that Arsenal have higher priority targets, whereas Banega remains at the heart of their plans.’

Any outfit worth its rep as a selling club needs to shift on older players for big money, they’re absolutely desperate to move him on and the player is likely gagging for a Premier League payday.

Gelson Martins is attracting interest from Italy and Arsenal. We apparently bid £30m for him, he’d be a lunatic to turn down Arsenal, the greatest sporting project in the world. Caglar Soyuncu has denied contact with Arsenal, it sounds like he’s fishing for a club, so we’ll see what happens there. Jack Wilshere isn’t of interest to Juventus… what a shocker.

Right, that’s me done. Listen to our ace podcast.

We talk:

  • Granit Xhaka and Swiss thoughts
  • Mesut Ozil and the Bling Bling gang
  • Bernd Leno and the state of our exkeepers
  • How Spurs make us feel about England

“Receding HairlineWhen did you realise Wenger was a busted flush”

About the same period you realized Ospina is worth 60m pounds

OK, you go into a bookies, as for odds on Arsenal finishing next season with 15 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses, 54 goals and 20 against.

I guarantee you they will offer MORE than 99-1, the reciprocal odds for an event with 1% chance of happening.

You have an intelligence issue.

Problem is you never fucking shut up and seem oblivious to it.

November 2016, Wenger – “Ozil pushes himself much more now. He has that in him as well. Sometimes the trap for very talented players is that it is easy for them. They know subconsciously they don’t need to push themselves too hard to be efficient. It’s so easy. I can’t tell you because I was never in that situation!” on whether the Premier League was initially a shock for him… A little bit, yes. He’s a player who left some people sceptical but every time you looked at the game again, he had the ball more, made something intelligent happen… Read more »

“Let’s hope for us that Emery had a different point of view about him…And mostly, a different point of view than yours.

I think you’ll find that Emery and I have very similar views.

A strong disciplined midfield, technically good players with a good team ethic which means no room for glory hunters.

Tough luck last night.

As for your “revisionism” comments, I can only assume you still have Mr Wenger’s pictures up on your bedroom walls, just to remind you of the wonderous times prior to 2006.

Maybe the really “sad” part in all of this is that folks like you continue to ridicule those fans that always put the club first and not their blind allegiance and loyalty to a man who clearly didn’t have a clue.

Victorious

Park chu young

what fu*king apology are u talking about mate?..i really haven’t gotten the moment hence the rather belated replies

if you’r going to criticize the manager for anything at least should be fair and fully warranted, not some BS on spending what the club allows him

Things I don’t miss #1
Waving the white flag as soon as another club shows interest in any potential signing.

I am actually looking forward to the season. We won’t win the title but I’m pretty sure Emery will get the players fighting for the cause.

Victorious

Graham

Tough luck last night.

absolutely! was nerve wrecking as well, unfortunately that’s just the little interest I have for the world cup out the window.

a draw would have been a fair result

I’m afraid I can’t comment on the rest of your post, basically just semantic nonsense

Akilan

Ozil starts for Germany. Julian Brandt must have told Loew that he’s fucking gross to his face. Khedira starts too.

Marc

gambon Arsenal took 16 points from a possible 57 away from home last season so my confidence is based on us being able to convert the equivalent of the 3 draws against West Brom, West Ham and Southampton into wins (6 more points) and then 1 loss into a win (3 points) and 3 losses into draws (3 points) that’s the 12 points to 4th. Beyond that for every point lost at home from last years record can also be picked up away form home so as I said after that it’s all down to what the other teams do.… Read more »

Marc

We scored 54 and conceded 20 at home.
We won 15 matches at home

We scored 20 and conceded 31 away
We won 4 matched away

Of the 20 we scored away, eight came in two matches vs Everton & Palace. So we scored 12 goals in the other 17 matches.

We most definitely have a goal scoring problem. This needs to be addressed in the market

Park Chu-young's left testicle

Park Chu-young’s left testicle The club are doing this transfer window all wrong. Wenger always said you shouldn’t add more than 2 or 3 players in a window!? I mean these are supposed adults making dumb assertions on the internet so as to come across as the smartest guy in the room for seeing how incompetent the manager was, never minding the fact jokes are on them for being undeserving,hate-filled and complete morons”

You sound butt-hurt.

So you aren’t angry that you misjudged Wenger. You are angry that people rub it in your face? Even though the evidence was plain to see for nary a decade. Be angry at yourself.

Marc

Dream10

That’s an away issue not just a goal scoring issue. Far more to do with the mind set of the team than the pure lack of a goal scorer.

azed

““We have to keep a balance as well, that you don’t destabilise the team too much by bringing in too many players.”

That’s Wenger speak for I don’t want to upset my babies.

TitsMcGee

so you bleat on about the summer we brought in just the handful of players but conveniently ignore the summer of 2011 we signed a total number of TEN players… no not a chance in hell you’all are agenda driven,”

Idiotic.

Receding Hairline

@ Gambon

For a man who thinks he is intelligent you are pretty dense most times

No one says it has to be identical you numpty, at least i am pretty sure Marc never said it has to be identical so dunno why you are bringing the exact goals scored and conceded thing into the discussion and the bookie analogy wasn’t clever between

Maybe u need another trip to Vegas with your fun friends

Graham62

Victorious

I was actually being sarcastic.

Are you really an Arsenal supporter?

When did you jump on the bandwagon?

Marc

“so you bleat on about the summer we brought in just the handful of players but conveniently ignore the summer of 2011 we signed a total number of TEN players… no not a chance in hell you’all are agenda driven,” Fuck me this is another Bamford – someone who’s supported the club for about 15 minutes chucks out things they’ve googled with realising some people have supported the club for 30 odd years and might just remember that a big chunk of those signings happened after the 8 – 2 loss to ManU. Of course they were in no way… Read more »

Marko

Remember when he said he wouldve been interested in Martial, but didnt know he was available.

Didn’t he say we didn’t need him because we had Walcott and Oxlade Chamberlain

Akilan

I for one hope Ozil performs well. We need a fit and firing Ozil. May be if he repeats his Euro performance, we may find someone who is stupid enough to take him off our hands.

Him playing well can only be good for Arsenal. I also think he was kinda scapegoated for their loss against Mexico.

Receding Hairline

Simple put Marc said we will have to maintain our good home form which is not impossible ( we only beat one of the big six at home anyway) while improving our away record

It was a simple statement ..

Someone then asserts that it is 99% certain that would not happen and thinks he is being clever or insightful by dragging up the goals scored and conceded thing and when pulled up on it proceeds to Le grove favorite sanctuary of calling the other poster dense or of low intelligence …..this place needs a shrink

gambon

Receding

He said that we just need to beat a few crap teams away. Clearly its not as simple as that.

And as I say, maybe go into a bookies and do what I said.

That said you probably don’t have the money, because you spend literally all day every day trying to argue with people on here, you complete weirdo.

TitsMcGee

““We have to keep a balance as well, that you don’t destabilise the team too much by bringing in too many players.” Yep. That and he knew that no matter how much players he signed/money he spent he knew that he would never win the league again. So he spent just enough to kind of solidify top 3-4 because the gap between top 4 and Spurs/Liverpool back then was sizable. The problem is Spurs and Liverpool kept mixing and matching until they got the formula right and now are (currently) legit top 4 contenders and Wenger couldn’t just go out… Read more »

He’s a fucking dickhead. Our away record last season was atrocious and he argues that it’s too bigger step to hope we can pick up 12 more points on the road.

Strange how he doesn’t factor in the Spud’s playing in a new stadium they’re not familiar with or Mourinho is due another meltdown.

Redtruth

Receding Hairline

It’s an inflated market so £60m for Ospina is a rather conservative figure.

gambon

Receding

I never for one second said our home form would 99% be worse, i said 99% different.

You cant make a plan for next season that assumes we keep all the positives from last season.

Its like saying “well I got 3 numbers right on the lotto this week, so now I just need to focus on those other 3”

If you don’t understand that maybe go back to school.

Receding Hairline

“That said you probably don’t have the money, because you spend literally all day every day trying to argue with people on here, you complete weirdo”

Yea we all know by now you are a high roller who has been to Vegas ..what was it..three times last week or some crap like that ….so i am not going to drag the money thing with you as

A. You are less than a total stranger

B. I could not care less what you think about my intelligence or financial standing

TitsMcGee

I am surprised that, being a Wenger fanboy, you didn’t know that he doesn’t like making more than three signings in a transfer window!”

Wenger fan boys are a cult. You don’t reason with cult members. David Koresh’s female followers took turns getting pregnant for him because he convinced them he was Jesus Christ.

…and they believed it.

Marko

Victorious just got served a plate of humble pie. Will he eat it? Nope now he’s making it about Arsene doing everything he could on a budget. Point was originally about him saying that you shouldn’t buy more than two to three players

Marc

“He said that we just need to beat a few crap teams away. Clearly its not as simple as that.”

Well there is plenty to chose from so I still think it’s more than possible. You spout numbers to make you look clever – they don’t just makes you look even more stupid.

Alex Cutter

Go easy on Victorious.

He’s a little salty because Nigeria choked against an impotent Argentina side, and his chicken broke up with him because his penis is too small.

Receding Hairline

@ Marc

He is just a far worse version of Bamford as Bamford was evidently an intelligent fellow and was 8 time out of 10 capable of holding a debate without resorting to insults

Gambon and Marko simply jump straight to insults once you question any of their posts.

“But your whole assertion relies on us having the same home form as last season…….something that almost certainly (99%) wont happen.”” This what the clever man wrote To the best of my knowledge form has to do with results at the end of the day, the number you win , lose or draw I do not see where goals scored or conceded factors into it. home form of course!

I’m not sure I’d give him any credit.

I’m off to watch the football and make some Gazpacho!

gambon

Receding Its simple. The idea that we just turn 4 away losses into wins is significantly flawed. Last season was our best home form in 8 seasons. The chance that we are capable of reproducing a 47 point home season arent that good. The chances that we win all the away games we won last season, and draw all the games we drew last season are not great. If we lose at home to Spurs, that “4 wins” becomes 5 wins. If we lose away to Everton that becomes 6 wins, if we draw at home to West Ham then… Read more »

Same with all the teams that will be competing in the premier league then??

No one knows what is going to happen, no two seasons have ever been identical

I think you are overthinking what Marc was trying to say

Simply put try to maintain what we did well last season ( Good home form) , improve on the areas we did not do so well.

I do not see where he mentioned identical in his post, no one here says we will have an identical home form, the only person assuming that was said is you

Sweden have been robbed by VAR/refs. No review for pen (and maybe yellow) on boateng in 10th minute. Then they just reviewed a handball by chicharito in the box (pretty clear I thought), but not given.

Re Ozil, he’s completely rested, playing against an utterly spent/exhausted South Korean side. Just to reiterate to you – it’s Germany against SOUTH KOREA.
