The mighty talents of Ozil attracting no interest, even on a free?

by .

This international break is beyond criminal. It’s been so long and painful. I’m off the grid because I’m drowning in work over the next two weeks (I’m also in Portland, Maine which is beautiful). However, I did want to pop back for some LOLz.

Firstly, there will be no Alexis Sanchez at the World Cup next year. His lack of focus at home clearly rolled into his international work. I don’t want to blame him for the entire failure of Chile, but let’s be real, it’s definitely 90% his fault for going against the contract he was offered. At least he’ll be rested for his new club.

Secondly, Duncan Castles, Jose Mourinho’s right-hand man, has said the Portugeeezer has no interest in bringing Mesut to United next summer as he thinks he has more than enough talent already and that the German wouldn’t improve them. Big LOL. Big sad faces for all the Arsenal fans who were dying for him to go there so he could prove all the naysayers wrong (so perverse a notion). Also, sad-faced that they thought there was such a thing as a super mega greatest ever world class player who just struggles with a system that makes him play like he doesn’t care.

The Sun went even further saying no one will pay him close to what he wants, which means he might sign on with us. We shouldn’t sign him on again. He doesn’t care for us. We’ll just be a lifestyle club for him if he does do the deal. Let him go to Besiktas. Looks like those quarterback stats won’t cut it alone in the modern era.

Also, if you see someone passing around the stat about Xhaka having the most passes in the world this season, click that report button on Twitter, and send them DVDs of our last 10 games.

Finally, Aaron also won’t be heading to the World Cup next summer. He had what some were calling a disaster-class against Ireland, and his team were shown the door. Shows how much of Wales falls on the shoulders of the mighty Gareth Bale. Robson Kanu was never going to cut it.

Right, that’s me done… see you TOMORROW x

What’s there to bash about the USMNT?
We aren’t good enough, end of.

The world cup is better off without us and our faux footballing tradition.
At least I know Fox sports will lose a shit load of money since domestic viewership will down. It gives me a very good satisfaction seeing Mr Murdoch lose money.

  2. Mark S

Here are my $0.02 about the current state of USMNT and the fallout from tonight.

    1. Bradley, Howard, Dempsey, Gonzalez, Altidore, and Arena’s legacy. These guys will be haunted by this for the rest of their lives. For all the good they’ve done for US Soccer, this is what they’ll be remembered for.
    2. Christian Pulisic. The bright spot for US Soccer won’t get a chance to showcase his talents on the world’s stage this summer. This kid is legit, and it’s too bad that a worldwide audience won’t get to see him play.
    3. Fox Sports. Wow…I mean just wow. They spent a boatload of money to secure the rights to the World Cup, and their “Golden Goose” laid a giant rotten egg. Everyone in this group will watch the World Cup regardless, however the casual fan will not. They just announced that 32 matches will be on over the air FOX, and now they don’t have the US to help with ratings. That’s going to hurt. It would be like if both USA Basketball and Gymnastics didn’t qualify for the Summer Olympics, NBC would be screwed.
    4. The heads of US Soccer. Have fun explaining this one guys! This result set the game in this country back big time.

    1. Hopefully we can actually give the young players a chance, instead of relying on a bunch of washed up veterans plying their trade in MLS. Pro/Rel isn’t going to do MLS/USMNT any good, however the more franchises that get added…the more the product becomes diluted. We shouldn’t be having to rely on guys who have been playing for the USMNT for 12-15 years. It’s times to move on. (I’d love to see Pro/Rel get added to MLS, but because of money it never will be. The Playoff system in MLS means you can be a crap team for most of the year, yet still win the championship if you get hot at the right time. The fact that you can’t get relegated means that clubs can be terrible for years, yet keep cashing their checks.)
    2. The die-hard soccer fan that gets sick of Rob Stone yelling the “American/Americans” every 15 seconds if the USMNT or any players that’s ever visited the US in their life is playing on Fox. I’m interested to see how they’re going to handle their broadcast now. Instead of having the US rammed down our throats, they’re going to have to focus on other teams and players. I really liked ESPN’s broadcasts over the years, and I was sad to see Fox get the rights. Let’s see how they do now with the “main team” out.
    3. US Soccer Federation is going to get blown up. We talk about competing with the best, and we can’t even get out of CONCACAF. We took it for granted that we would qualify, and now we actually need to do something about it. This is our chance, I hope we don’t screw it up!

I’m really glad that we’re done with International Football until…oh wait…November!

  3. Elmo

    Savage from Rhys once again!

Can imagine Pedro surrounded by the autumn colours in Portland, Maine, thinking that life is good and he’s made it, but knowing inside that while he may be thousands of miles away from dreary London, all he has to do to receive his healthy, life affirming dose of nob-end hometown abuse is log onto his own website.

  4. TonyD

    Last post
Apologies with Sanchez spellings mixture of typos and senior moments lol.

Watford must be licking their lips at our defensive shortfall, midfield pretenders and usual international hangover.

Should throw Wilshire and AMN in the mix and bench Ramsey & Sanchez.

  5. Elmo

Where have the American keepers gone? Kasey Keller, Brad Friedel, Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Marcus Hahnemann etc.

Since I was a kid there has always been one or two decent American keepers in the PL at any one time.

John Harkes, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan etc. Where are the American attacking players in the PL? There’s always been one or two who you’d easily name as a good PL player, but I can’t think of any right now.

  6. WengerEagle

Pulisic is a baller, USA’s only hope as of now.

How the fuck do a country of over 300 million people playing in one of the weakest qualifying federations in Concacaf fail to qualify for the WC? I know that they aren’t exactly footy mad bit even still you would expect much better from a nation where it has by all accounts skyrocketed in popularity in the last 20 years.

First time they have failed to qualify since 1986 in fact, says it all about their current crop.

  7. WengerEagle

Europe has some surprising omissions too namrly Netherlands, Slovakia, Bosnia and Ukraine.

Turkey too had a piss poor campaign even though on paper they have the makings of a very good team.

No Robben, Bale, Sanchez, Vidal, Aubameyang, Pjanic, Oblak, Hamsik at the WC, shame such a good crop of players will miss out and we’ll potentially have Stephen Ward featuring 😀

  8. WengerEagle

Netherlands current bunch are shite tho, a soon to be 34 year old Robben has carried them and spared them some further embarrassment in this group.

Where are all the Dutch ballers gone to?

Robben, Sneijder, VDV, RVP all the same generation.

  9. Paddy got bored

    Oh no
I was hoping to get in first with my post but it looks like the pre pubescent boys have been up waiting all night for this latest post again..
    Gosh what you guys like

  10. Boomslang

Let me make it very simple for you.

If you don’t like it, ignore it. Hell, look the other way, turn the other cheek, bend over and get stuffed, whatever. Just stop crying about it like a baby in need of breast milk.

  11. Dissenter

The US does not deserve to be at the world cup because we aren’t good enough.
We aren’t producing good players. The fact that we are still relying on a 34 year old Clint Dempsey says.
We are not going to be missed and I really wish people [here in the states stop talking about it in an apocalyptic manner]
England didn’t qualify for the 1994 WC and the world didn’t come to an end. The WC was one of the most enjoyable of the 9 world cups that I have seen.
Mexico almost missed out of the last world cup, but for the US.
    It’s no biggie. Life continues.

  12. Carts

Woke up this morning to all kinds of headlines.

Messi carrying Argentina to the WC. I mean, when you look at who started for them last night, it gives you a clear indication as to why they’ve struggled.

Lol @ the USA losing to T&T. Inexcusable, to say the least. Surely their head coach will be sacked..

    Netherlands let me down. Period.

  13. WengerEagle

Yeah Carts their only indispensable player is Messi, nobody else barring Di Maria and Biglia from the midfield forwards are guranteed of a spot.

Find it bizarre that they have the likes of Higuain, Dybala, Icardi, Alejandro Gomez at their disposal and they opt for Benedetto at CF, guy’s a lampost.

So weird that they cannot accomodate both Dybala and Messi, Sampaoli has literally said as much so it’s a big problem that they’ll have to figure out by June as Dybala is their second best attacking player.

  14. Elmo

To be fair, the club were right to extend Chambers. We received a £20m bid for him over the summer, so he has a financial value. Better to tie him to a slightly longer deal and sell him on if he continues to regress, rather than let yet another player who has a notional financial value leave for nothing.

There’s at least a hope that Wenger won’t be at the club beyond a couple of years, and the successor being able to flog various unnecessary pieces for £20m here and there will help a lot.

  15. Elmo

^ That’s of course conditional on the 2 year extension not involving a ridiculous wage hike to £80k+ which would make him unsellable.

  16. Dissenter

How many young English defenders are as good as Chambers currently?
He was starting CB for the U-21 national team and clubs bid 20+ million for him last summer.
    He deserves the new deal.

  17. freddylekgunner

Am also in support of extending Chambers contract, he was decent for Borough and the U-21, if it’s not done and leave on a free people will still moan.

  18. Pierre

Have you been taking anti ozil pills along with keown.
It seems like since özil was injured his performances have detiorated without him playing a game.
How can that happen, you tell me..

Lets wait until he plays a few games before slaughtering him shall we.
The last game he played against Liverpool, he was rubbish along with the rest of the team. Before that, against stoke and Leicester he created more chances than any other player in the Prem and before that it was the fa cup final against Chelsea and I am sure he had a pretty decent game in the cup final.
Stop reading the shit Pedro and use your brain, as I know you are capable of some pretty intelligent obsevations but your anti özil rhetoric is bordering on pathetic.

  19. freddylekgunner

Ozil should expect some backlashes after telling some of the ex-players to shut up and support the team.

  20. Cesc Appeal

Ozil holds positive contract talks with Arsenal.

Yeah I bet he f*****g has. Slap in the face from reality seems like, don’t f*****g want him, waste of wages.

Sanchez out and Ozil extends just epitomises Arsenal currently.

  21. Pierre

Whatever goes on off the field is irrelevant.. Judge özil fairly on what he does on the pitch.. He has been injured and when he returns he will do what özil does… Create chances for the team.. That is why he is first choice in the Germany team who are, I believe, world champions.

  22. Paulinho

“Where are all the Dutch ballers gone to?”

Could say that about football in general. Look at Russia, ten or so years ago lots of talented players, now they are absolute shite.

Germany are low-key becoming a bit average as well. Italy mediocre.

France probably the only side with fresh, young quality coming through, but they lack lock-pickers and subtlety. Athleticism probably their strong point.

  23. Paddy got bored

Yeah sorry boomskank or whatever your called
You carry on checking round the clock to come on here just to get in before someone else
    Good luck
Gosh your so good at it

  24. Paulinho

Surely we can flog Ozil off some to some silly Turkish side like Fenerbache, offer to pay of half the wages or something for a few years? The thought of that fraud playing for us again is nauseating.

  25. freddylekgunner

I for one will be happy if Ozil extends, It’s good for positive atmosphere around the club which is badly needed right now, also he’s a quality player.

  26. Goobergooner

    Paddy got bored,
You really are a sour puss.
You are the one checking up here round the clock to tell people off.
    Get over it

  27. James wood

Pierre is right play Ozil with the right players round him and he is lethal.

Trouble is the players around him here do not compliment him .

So for us he is a wasted talent that only weakens the side.

  28. Cesc Appeal

    Not me.

Waste of wages, no doubt he will pitch up against the relegation fodder at home soon and the Ozil fans will pipe up, but there is no place for him in modern football unless he is in a weak league in a far superior team.

If we have Wenger as manager, Ozil will always be a passenger, cannot motivate him, cannot or will not build the team necessary to compensate for his glaring weaknesses.

  29. graham62

Chambers needs to be given a run in the team. As for Ozil, use him as an impact player.

Another day closer to Wenger’s departure.

  30. Wallace

re Chambers – from the Middlesbrough Gazette…

“Steve Agnew described him as a top defender while Arsene Wenger said his performances at Boro were “very positive ” – so what next for Calum Chambers?

There was a realisation that relegation ultimately ended any hopes Boro had of re-signing Chambers this summer, be it on a loan or a permanent deal.

Which is a shame. The 22-year-old struck up a superb partnership with Ben Gibson last season and undoubtedly benefited from regular football in the Premier League. He was a big miss when a stress reaction in his foot ruled him out of action for a prolonged period in the second half of the season.”

  31. Cesc Appeal

Chambers could be decent enough, send him off on loan to a manager who actually understands defending and see what happens, worst case we sell him and probably make back what we invested in him due to his nationality.

  32. James wood

Wenger has known what he is getting with all the players he has signed.?
Problem is his judgement is often flawed.
That’s why we are at the level we are.

  33. Dissenter

Ospina has been really bad for Columbia recently.
His crappy goal keeping probably cost Alexis a chance in the play-offs against New Zealand.

  34. Do One Gambon

Never heard of a poker face Pedro?

I still reckon ozils going to yoonited. Joseph Maureen would do it just to spite Wenger.

  35. Do One Gambon

Got to love a Rhys Jagger rant, just gold.

Never quite know where its coming from or why but damn the guy can rant

  36. Redtruth

Ozil should be running the show not relying on other players for guidance..
Marty Feldman’s illegitimate son should be nowhere near Arsenal or the German National team.

  37. WengerEagle

Agree Paulinho, Czech Republic are another side that currently has absolute dross on display with their team a decade ago consisting of Nedved, Rosicky, Koller, Baros (talented but hugely inconsistent), Smicer, Jankulovski, Cech, Plasil, etc.

Same for Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Denmark, Turkey.

Even the heavy hitters as you say in Italy and Portugal in particular have their weakest squads that I’ve seen in my lifetime (still can’t believe that France choked the Euro Final at home against such mediocre opposition).

Dearth of quality in football big time, especially in midfielders I reckon. It’s why Spain are so fortunate, even in tough times they just keep rolling out the conveyor belt of outstanding midfielders (Isco, Asensio, Thiago, Koke, Saul) which will keep them near the top for some years to come.

  38. WengerEagle

Italy will do nothing at the WC, and that’s if they even make it.

Wouldn’t back anyone outside of Brazil and France and possibly Spain/Germany to win the WC next year, if I was to put money on it I’d actually back Brazil. A lot of people in Europe who don’t pay much attention to the Conmebol WCQ won’t realise how good they’ve been in a very tough group of teams/fixtures between personnel and altitude.

Plus the French have a lot of incredible talent but they are a very young side and won’t have that knack for tournament footy in the same way that Brazil will with players like Neymar, Marcelo, Dani Alves, etc. Their mentality is also up for debate given the manner in which they bottled the Euros on home soil.

  39. Emiratesstroller

Frankly I have no issue with Arsenal renewing the contract of Chambers. He
played quite well at Middlesborough. Their defence was not the cause of their
relegation, but a lack of goals.

Also he played solidly for England U21 and was preferred there to Holding. Neither is good enough to play in Arsenal’s starting lineup against top teams, but useful additions to sit on bench and play in League and Europa Cups.

Arsenal need for foreseeable future to focus their valuable transfer funds on
on recruiting quality players in our starting eleven particularly along spine and to replace Sanchez and Ozil who are clearly likely to leave in the next two
    transfer windows.

  40. Carts

Sampaoli is looking amateur right now. He went from almost getting the Chelsea job, to leading Chile to Copa America; ran out of steam with Sevilla in La Liga; as well as losing to Leicester in the CL.

Now he’s trying to tell me he can’t scramble together a starting 11 with Messi, Icardi and Dybala yet only yesterday Barcelona were able to field Messi, Neymar and Suarez ….lol

    Mans not hot!

  41. WengerEagle

I know mate it’s a clusterfuck that a team containing Messi, Aguero, Higuain, Dybala, Di Maria, Icardi, Gomez, Banega literally stumble across the finish line solely because of Messi’s efforts.

Find Argentina to be the weirdest NT in footy, they’ve massively underachieved regardless of how many Finals they have been in the last few years. It would be criminal if that generation of players finish their careers potless and it is a very real probablity at this stage.

And ironically, despite boasting easily the strongest forward line at these tournaments they’ve reached the Finals in, it’s actually been their defence that has grinded out the wins combined with Messi’s efforts going forward.

I cannot fathom how you won’t start Dybala, I don’t care how similar he is to Messi, he has to play. The guy is dynamite.

    Dybala- Higuain-Di Maria

is how they should really line up with Messi basically playing in a free role behind Hig and Dybala playing wide right with license to roam in field.

They need Messi as close to the box as possible, too often he has to drop inside their own half to pick up the ball and make something happen. Dybala has the capability to do this IMO.

  42. WengerEagle

I’d opt for Higuain over Aguero mostly because he’s formed a very good understanding with Dybala at Juve and he played with Di Maria for years at Real Madrid, he’s also a better performer than Aguero in tournament footy albeit is a choker himself in this respect.

  43. WengerEagle

It’s a real shame that they don’t have a top class midfielder though, fuck me could they do with a certain Juan Roman Riquelme right about now. Or Veron.

Biglia and Banega are decent and will cut it against most sides but when they’re playing Germany, France, Spain or Brazil they’ll suffer in CM.

It’s a different level these boys are playing at.

  44. Carts

Chambers getting a new deal does fuck all for me. He’s shown nothing to deserve a new deal; not is he the first player at arsenal to get a new deal based on next to no outputs.

Wenger couldn’t coach a wild hyena to scrounge let alone develop a defender to defend

  45. Zeus

This is spot on. The best Messi has ever looked in the Argentina kit was with riquelme in midfield supplying him.
A midfield isn’t the only need they have though, they need a partner for Messi up front because Aguero isn’t that guy and Higa in should never get another cap ever again the serial choker.

  46. Carts

well analysed. The curious case of Argentina continues and to be honest, judging by their dependence on Messi and their inability to field an effective 11 is beyond comprehension.

To be honest, unless you scrutinised each player as you have then for any manager… picking one from: Icardi, Aguero and Higuain is headache.

But having no arsehole to play Dybala (with Messi) is a ridiculous cop-out!

Messi in the free-role is a no brainier. Biglia alongside Paredes, as opposed to Banega, would be my preference. Banega is slow AF and is quite similar to Biglia.

Argentina have a lot of work to do. I’d say they’re 3rd favourites behind Brazil and France. But I could see them struggling to beat Iceland

  47. WengerEagle

Not Banega’s biggest fan but on his day he’s a very good player, not quick by any means but is a gifted dribbler and breaks through the lines well, he has a very high footy IQ. Bit of a journeyman I know but apparently that’s more down to his temperment then his ability, little bit like a Quaresma.

Paredes is an interesting alternative, I’ll be honest he didn’t really stand out to me during his time in Italy but the boy has a nice rhythm to his game, can step it up a gear when needed and is a very good possession player, something which the Argies could use against the better teams. Doesn’t he play in Russia with Zenit now?

Garay made a similarly strange move and he has yet to return to the NT fold.

Pastore really should have been THAT guy, baller in Italy and in his early period at PSG where he demonstrated his class on numerous occasions but he fizzled out of contention in Paris and has yet to make that move to save his career from petering out. Lacks breakaway pace too as well as being a bit of a softy.

I really do think that they should consider Lanzini, people may laugh but he’s performed really well for 2 seasons in the BPL now and would offer them plenty going forward with much better strikers around him.

I agree, they struggle to really dominate teams offensively and aren’t going to smash opponents in the way that Germany for example did in previous World Cups. But they are strong defensively so it’s just about putting together the jigsaw from CM onwards.

In Messi too they always have a chance regardless of how shit Aguero, Higuain, etc play.

  48. WengerEagle

Agree, Riquelme was the fucking man for Argentina. Most influential Argie player of the noughties and it wasn’t even close, the entire side revolved around him. Genius of a playmaker.

I’d nearly be tempted to bench all of their strikers and play Messi as the highest player up the pitch in the false 9 role, have Dybala behind him supplying with Di Maria and one of Gomez/Lanzini flanking.

You’d naturally worry about how they will get the ball up to him often enough to prevent him from dropping deep which is why the lack of a playmaker hurts them so much, Dybala could maybe assume the role though, who knows.

What we know for sure is that Messi alongside Higuain/Aguero doesn’t work for whatever reason in tournament footy (mainly due to the latter pair’s tendency to disappear for the NT) so I hope for entertainment’s sake that we are treated to a new-look frontline that will at least offer something different.

Aguero is a such a weird one, guy is the most lethal CF to ever play in the BPL but is bizarrely poor for Argentina. Head-scratcher.

  49. Redtruth

Take away Messi’s goals and his value to a team becomes negligible.
Which is why Argentina should ditch the midget.
81 competive games for Argentina scoring 34 goals says it all.

  50. Pedro

‘Well, I do hope nothing goes wrong in YOUR life Mr Wood, because sure as eggs is eggs I would laugh my head off if you broke your leg, had any lover of yours humiliate you by screwing a seventy five year old or if the next twenty five beauty parades you turned up for all got fixed for you to lose.Just to make you understand that you are not a superior person, you are not a pleasant person and nor I am sorry to say are you an honest person……’

    Gotta love Rhy.

“Marty Feldman’s illegitimate son should be nowhere near Arsenal or the German National team.”

Funniest post I’ve seen here for months

Keep it up Redtruth you bring much enjoyed entertainment here at a time when it’s so needed.

A welcome relief from Emiratesstroller’s “as I mentioned before or As I posted before” pomposity.

We can read Emirates and don’t need reminding every time you repost a point! Mostly your posts make sense; they just need to be written from a less lofty and “I told you so” position.

    Graham 62
    Enjoy your posts and humour.

What’s happened to CC ands N5? Pierre you’re doing a sturdy job holding the fort in their absence.

Where did that come from? A new Hill-Wood BS sanctimonious comment I missed?

    Saturday’s Game
As much as I want the win, I can’t help but think Watford are going to turn us over unless we produce another ‘Bridge’ performance. Problem is that Welbeck’s pressure was key and Ramsey has had his one off game of the season.

Sead is going to have to be immense again; best signing for some time.

Probably worth the extension; he did well at Boro. We are not exactly flush with defenders at the moment.

  52. Goobergooner

    Haha TonyD
I don’t think N5 is as optimistic about Wenger as Pierre and CC.
But either way i really would like to see them back.

What can we as fans do to make this Arsenal more fun while the shit show at the top continues?
It’s seriously been a ghost town on here.

What is everyone’s ultimate dream team? Including manager?

To make it more interesting, make it 2 first XIs, current players and all time.
    Ok go… Haha

You are entitled to your opinion on me. I have a broad pair of shoulders.

However, if you believe seriously that RT is funny or even knowledgable about football in general or Arsenal in particular then frankly you are deluded.

This is a guy who by his own admission never watches Arsenal in the flesh and
I sometimes wonder if he is even watching them on tv.

He thinks that he is clever by posting earlier today that Messi is crap. This is
of course an “opinion” that he repeats on many occasions.

If you believe seriously that he makes a positive contribution to Le Grove then

I think that there is already very clear evidence that a lot of posters are vanishing and in some cases because they have been attacked personally for their
