Arsenal are having a really weird summer

‘We play with the handbrake off, Boro’

I know, I know… you all come here because of how integrated I am into the fabric of the game. Raiola dinner parties, Mendes poker games, beers with Vik Akers… sure, that’s my life,  but did I tell you about the time I was on the plane with an agent who reckoned he knew Elneney and he told me the Egyptian was possibly leaving?

No, I didn’t. But I am telling you now because Leicester has been linked with him for £10m. I really like the Egyptian. No nonsense, no fuss. Just a great engine, some neat passing and a good frame for getting in the mix of the physical challenge that is the Premier League. I think he’s the sort of squad player you want to keep on the books, but that’s just me.

In other news, David Luiz has perked up Arsenal fans by lavishing praise juice all over our new SUPER STAR STRIKER SIGNING.

“Lacazette is a top player, top striker. I had many opportunities to play against him in France and he was always difficult. Arsenal did well to take him.

“What makes him so good? He has the timing to go into the space, he finishes well, he can score many goals, he can assist. So he is a top-level player.”

That’s high praise from one of the most successful defenders of the last ten years. Especially considering he didn’t need to make those comments. He could have just said, ‘he’ll have to adapt to a tougher league, and stop crying all the time’, which would have suffice.

I do have to say, in general, I’ve been kind of flatlined by how poorly the Premier League seems to have spent money this summer. I mean, some good players, but for a league so loaded and stupid, we really are lacking blockbuster names. PSG are raiding Barcelona for Neymar to the tune of £220m, and we’re clapping away at the Premiership making marquee signings of Lacazette, Moratta, and Lukaku. All good players, but if this were a sexual escapade, it’d be dry and very apologetic.

Remember the summer of Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Francis Jeffers? Those were the days…

Jokes aside, I’m sure they’ll all score goals. But where’s the flair of Thierry, Aguero in his pomp, Didier Drogba?

We’ll see though. Three very different strikers. Someone is going to win and someone is going to lose.

I really wish Arsenal would move a bit harder on the squad. Wenger looks like he’s taking another marginal gains summer, instead of being brutally honest about what he needs and making moves. I mean, West Ham are going all out, and you cannot knock their moves. Joe Hart, Marco Arnautovic, Zabaleta, Hernandez, and Lazio’s Keita (who looks a real gem in the making).

That’s a seriously aggressive summer. It’s the sort that takes you from shite to competing in for the top 6 if you’re lucky.

Where are our heavy moves? What takes us from 5th to 1st? A back up left back and a striker won’t solve our problems. Goals were not really our issue last season. Where are the upgrades? Where are the players that are going to fundamentally change how we play? Where are the leaders that we lacked last year? Where is the forward planning so we don’t end up in the dumpster next summer?

I really feel it’s arrogant. I mean, things could change very quickly. Just have my doubts. You look at our summer and you can’t help but think Wenger will think it’s job done because he had a go at doing big signing… and we know, because we’ve seen time and time again, that he’ll be more than happy to park signing a left winger and a major striker because he’ll be looking at maybe next season (Waiting 3 seasons for Santi / 2 for Chamakh / 2 for Baptista).

Wenger, always pining for tomorrow… which is why we’ll never be a serious club under his watch. No impetus to kick on because he’s essentially invincible.

I feel next season is basically going to be about 3 at the back and whether that can shake us into a title winning team, versus accepting we’re rotten, and carving out the nasty bits.

On the upswing of things, because life isn’t all DOOM DOOM DOOM. I am excited about the season.

I think there are some things to be positive about.

I DO like our new formation, even if it is copied. It allows us to play a free flowing style of football I’ve not seen in a while, it also seemed to energise our playing staff.

I AM excited to have a striker in the side that David Luiz is fearful of. That’s fucking massive. Having someone who is explosive and clinical, regardless of whether he is Thierry, is very important. We’ll have to deal with the lack of physicality, and I do worry he’s a bit of a Wiltord, but hey, he looks an improvement.

I am very excited about Iwobi maybe coming good. I’m hoping Hector plays a stronger role in the new setup. I think this could be a breakthrough year for Chambo. I also think Holding could be an immense figure this season. Call me crazy, but I really, really, really like Emi Martinez. That penalty save was superb. I think his frame and growing maturity could be interesting.

I’m also super interested to see what our season looks like if we squash the contracts into shape so we don’t have collective what-the-fuck is-going-on-itis rampaging through the squad like the shits after an rotten Italian lasagna party.

That’s me done.

IT’S TOO POSTIVE I AM GOING TO BED.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in 17-year-old Manchester City winger Jadon Sancho. (Independent)

That’s more like it, we’re getting linked with the big guns again.

  2. Carts

I couldn’t agree with you more, Pedro.
With Wenger, and this has been the story for every summer in the last 10 seasons, he’s all about marginal gains.

It’s as if he feels we’re 10% away from winning the league.

He needs to be more ruthless and cut the crud from the squad. Realise that what he assembled having spent the most in our history resulted in usfinoshijg outside the top 4

  3. N5

Pedro, when you say he’s had a go at a big signing are you referring to Lemar or M’Bappe? because M’Bappe was real was it? and Lemur 😀 he bid £20m under the asking, which makes me think we’re just going through the motions again!

I’m sure another player will come in, but 3 is the magic number! according to De La Soul and Wenger and were we 3 positions from winning the league or at least challenging?

I guess now his contracts signed though and the boos are water of a slugs back.

  4. Carts

Fantastic bit of business from Liverpool. Robertson for £8m (rising to £10m).

He can defend, has a mean cross and is British. Hull on the other hand were just pony.

  5. Carts

So the ACN tournament has been moved to June/July. But it’s still being played every 2 years, where as the WC and euros are every 4 years on an every numbered year.

    Am I missing something here..

  6. Skinnywill

Pedro I share your optimism with Iwobi. I like the look of him as he has pace and power, if he can add some final product to his overall play he could be a real handful. One thing that does worry me is his ball striking reminds me of Gervinhio.

  7. Daz

“Neymar has privately confirmed his intention to complete a world-record transfer to Paris Saint-Germain and said goodbye to a select number of Barcelona team-mates, according to a report in Le Parisen.

The Ligue 1 outfit are ready to meet Neymar’s €222million (£196m) buy-out clause and are confident of convincing him to move to Parc des Princes with a stunning five-year contract worth £596,000 a week after tax.

And, according to the French newspaper, the Brazilian is now ready to leave the Nou Camp behind, telling his closest friends in the Barcelona dressing room that his mind is made up.”

    Sanchez not going there then??

  8. graham62

    Pedro:

David Luiz one of the most “successful” defenders over the past 10 years, clearly though, not one of the best. We all remember his wonderous displays in the last world cup! Your positivity, I must add, is admirable.

  9. Karl

I thought Rafinha did his ACL last two seasons, I’m no longer sure but if so, no one should expect him to play a lot of games last season.

Before his injury, he played quite a few more games than last season. He’d be an improvement on what we already have but I don’t know where he fits in – on the RW or LW or beside Xhaka.

  10. Rambo Ramsey

We shouldn’t be wasting time with Iwobi. The kid is talented, quite a few PL teams may be willing to have him on loan and give him the minutes and experience he needs to develop. Meanwhile, we should bring in a Mahrez- a refined version of an Iwobi.

  11. David Smith

Martinez has impressed me when I have seen him, hope Jens now has more influence on him than Peyton.
It is clear we need another playmaker, or the team will become predictable, as they were last season, especially as the injuries hit.
Seems like there is some kind of poker standoff involving Sanchez and Lemar?
Just hope not all the eggs are going into a Lemar shaped basket , and then Wenger loses out on him , at a convenient stage whereby it is too late to find anyone else to replace the departing Sanchez

  12. Samir

Not keen on Rafinha, not what we need. Agree we should be a lot more aggressive in the market. Once again we’re doing things half heartedly and too slow.
    What I’d like to see:

    Chesney – Gone
    Sanchez – 50M
    Chambers – 20M
    Wilshere – 15M
    Walcott – 25M
    Debuchy – 0M
    Jenkinson – 0M
    Gibbs – 10M

    IN:
    Van Dijk – (Chambers + 30M)
    Leon Goretzka – 30M
    Top winger – 40-50M (Lemar/Bernardeschi/Emre Mor)

  13. DaleDaGooner

I like Emi Martinez too. I hope he gets on quite well with Lehman training him.

I like the look of the Sancho kid…Sancho in Sanchez out to Paris…would be good kick in the balls of Pep after tapping Alexis up. I reckon Sancho is a better footballer than Theo. I hope it’s not a pipe dream…really think there is a baller there.

I alos hope we’re not dragging this Lemar thing to the last day of business….would hate to see Mahrez go to Roma and we would have not signed Lemar anyway, would be typical Arsenal.

If Paris want Sanchez, take the 50m and splash it on Lemar add Sancho and we got something, Theo or Ox can buzz off if we can get Jordan Sancho.

We still need a Santi replacement….I just don’t like Ramsey in that Role.

And I agree with you Pedro re El Neny, would be a shame to lose him.

  14. karim

    Daz

I think you and most on here will be surprised by the apparent news that Alexis Sanchez currently is at the Hotel Mauceau in Paris, a hotel Qatar bought a couple of years ago and where most of psg new players come and sign their deals.

I know it sounds crazy, especially with the Neymar saga but ” Paris United ” is a fucking well – informed twitter account as far as psg are concerned.

They’re also saying no agreement has been reached with Arsenal for now.

  15. Samir

    DaleDaGooner

Do you know Jadon Sancho is 17 years old kid? And you think he’s better than Walcott? Walcott scores a lot of important goals for all the shit he gets.

  16. Bamford10

    Pedro

I think you’re right. I have a bad feeling Wenger thinks his transfer window work is done. Except that we aren’t even close to good enough. Yet again.

    We will see.

  17. Confidentgoner

You just know that Wenger will not get the required personnel, nor the number reqd.

    We need a striker, done.

We also need a Winger ( Lemar or Mahrez) , plus a CM.

We need a third keeper as Schesny is sold. These are based on keeping Sanchez and Ozil.

I would buy both Lemar and Mahrez as this will make us dangerous from the wings. Our wing play is poor and that has been a long time weakness.

I feel Niles is a better DM than Coq. Coq cannot pass and cannot tackle cleanly. I would sell Coq and get a better DM, and alternate with Niles. Niles is not a right back, Mr Wenger!

So we need four players minimum. Perhaps 5, if we need a right wing back to compete with Bellerin, who as we know is not consistent throughout the season.

We need to in the above scenario get rid of Theo, Coq , Jack, and the rest of the dross.

  18. karim

Psg are about to make a first £ 45 million bid apparently.
The question is how long will Wenger/Arsenal resist ?

  19. Daz

    Karim

Yeah just had a notification about Sanchez, do you think they could possibly be in for both? Or neymar one not happening

  20. Wallace

“I don’t have words – I would like to have the right words to describe what I saw. It’s a long time since I saw something like this.”

    – Guardiola on Phil Foden (Man City’s 17yr old attacking midfielder)

tiny, but looks the real thing. a bit like Wilshere at that age.

  21. Wallace

if we can keep Alexis I’ll be happy with a CM. if we’re losing Alexis I think we need three more.

  22. Samir

    TR7
No chance, we might as well keep him on his low wages for a year than accept a low bid.
I think he’ll end up going for 50M. Fair price for all.

  23. Ishola70

    karim:
“Psg are about to make a first £ 45 million bid apparently.
The question is how long will Wenger/Arsenal resist ?”

    Surely won’t be able to.

Sanchez is basically forcing the move here and has completely ignored what Wenger has been spouting about re: Sanchez lol

Is it really feasible to be able to hold on to a player that so clearly wants out and pronto?

  24. Marko

Typical arsenal transfer window. Not enough quality additions in and any good feeling about new signings is offset by departures. Great club

  25. Wallace

“Palace had discussed loan and permanent deal options for the England defender but their initial offer, believed to be worth around £16m including add-ons and potential percentage of sell-on fees, fell well under Arsenal’s £25m valuation of the 22-year-old, who spent last season at relegated Middlesbrough. Frank de Boer considers Chambers a ball-playing centre-half who can fit into his desired 3-4-3 formation, as the Dutchman attempts to tweak the team’s style.”

    – Guardian

  26. karim

    Daz

Emery said yesterday they needed a world top 5 player to keep growing and cited Neymar, Alexis and M’Bappe ( who’s not there yet ) as players they’d like to sign.
Everyone was thinking one of them but it now seems like they want them both.

  27. PieAFC

I know it’s a bitter pill to swallow, but we only have ourselves to blame.

Who knows would Sanchez have stayed if Wenger left?

Don’t want to lose him, but no player is bigger than the club. It would be ruthless of the club to show some balls and restrict his transfer. We’d be cutting our nose to spite our face.

seems we’re on another transitional period. Just like the last 5-8 years.

I commend your optimism Pedro, but by th time the season starts out insufficienties in the squad will bare fruit very Sharpish unless addressed quickly.

We will do the reactionary transfer after the first few games, but then the mood will be set at and around the club. We all know from history this is what Arsenal, with Wenger do.

  28. karim

    Ishola

Then he has to get one of Draxler, Di Maria or Lucas Moura who will lose a lot of game time this year. Win/win situation for all 3 parties imo.

  29. PieAFC

“Typical arsenal transfer window. Not enough quality additions in and any good feeling about new signings is offset by departures. Great club”

100% Marko. It’s so predictable, it’s crazy. We all hope, but get the same results.

I will wait until the window finishes before I really get frustrated. But history has shown many times what will happen….

  30. DaleDaGooner

Draxler, Di Maria or Lucas Moura and they still want Sanchez? I bet you we won’t ask for any of them.

  31. Joe

One thing’s for sure we ain’t competing for any title next season if we lose Sanchez.

We aren’t competing either way. Not with le Wanker in charge

  32. Joe

    DaleDaGoonerJuly 21, 2017 19:08:47
Draxler, Di Maria or Lucas Moura and they still want Sanchez? I bet you we won’t ask for any of them.

Yep. Wenger doesn’t do swaps. He craves and worships cash too much

Griezmann for vela stands out as one of many many many stupid decisions wenger has made

  33. DaleDaGooner

samir, i know he’s 17, but we brought in Ox at 18, and Walcott at 16, Raheem Sterling was already doing his thing at 17. I like the look of Jordan Sancho if Ox is leaving or Theo.

  34. Ishola70

    karim:
“Then he has to get one of Draxler, Di Maria or Lucas Moura who will lose a lot of game time this year. Win/win situation for all 3 parties imo.”

Draxler is obviously the one to get but I don’t think PSG let him go.

Moura would be the most likely to be seen as surplus to requirements at PSG but tbh not that keen on the player.

There would have to be question marks about Di Maria as well because his stint in England was not good and he is less likely to be offloaded in comparison to Moura.

I don’t think there will be any player exchange going on.

Think it will be just an outright one player purchase.

  35. Sanmi

I won’t want Di Maria here under any pretext.
Draxler is a good player but won’t transform us, will take him though.
    Moura, he’s overrated.

  36. DaleDaGooner

We are chasing Lemar because the club knew already that they would sell Sanchez…question was..to who? Bayern out because of wage demands, makes sense that PSG are in. They can afford his lofty wages and pay us without Man City getting a sniff.

  37. TR7

Yes, not interested in any of Draxler, Di Maria and Moura. And we aren’t getting Verratti or Rabiot. Better to do a cash deal and invest the money elsewhere.

  38. Sanmi

If sanchez leaves, that’s a big if, I would want Lemar in, and we must play strictly 343.
He’s not a big loss in my mind as people think. We would lose his individualistic display but hopefully we gain on the teamwork.

  39. DaleDaGooner

I agree Di Maria is a non starter, he never settled in England and I don’t think he will score enough for us.

Moura, I agree is overrated or will be underwhelming for us.

Draxler best bet, but again, he only just moved there. Wenger will only take cash and looks like he’s fixated on Thomas Lemar….if Monaco doesn’t budge, Laca is Sanchez’s replacement, typical.

  40. karim

The Di Maria that was motm v Barça ( 4/0 ) wasn’t bad at all I’m telling you !

Lucas isn’t overrated, everyone knows about his limitations. He also has a lot of qualities, pretty sure he’d do well in England.

As for Draxler, who’s indeed the better fit, he’s just arrived there, can’t see him leaving that’s true Ishola.

It was just a quick suggestion knowing how complicated any arrival is at AFC.

  41. Bamford10

If these reports are true, and Sanchez is really in a French hotel working out a deal with PSG representatives, does this mean:
    – Sanchez is a bit of a disrespectful prick?
    – Arsenal are so poorly run and Sanchez is so finished with Wenger that he can’t be blamed for meeting with PSG?
    – Wenger has actually given Sanchez permission to have these discussions, despite maintaining this front of “Alexis is going nowhere”?
    – something else?

  42. Bamford10

    Sanmi

So if we replaced Sanchez with Lemar, what would your XI be, and where do you see that XI finishing in the PL?

  43. Ishola70

Di Maria did have a very good game against Barca but he can be hot and cold. Also I see him as a light weight player and don’t really need any more of those with Ozil in the team.

Moura I find is a bit erratic.

Yes Draxler best bet but PSG would not be interested in letting him go. Also the player himself may not be keen to go from Champions League to Europa League and he is probably getting a nice enough wage at this tIme at PSG.

As said think it is all irrelevant. Can’t see any player exchange in the deal.

  44. Ishola70

    Bamford:
“If these reports are true, and Sanchez is really in a French hotel working out a deal with PSG representatives, does this mean:
    – Sanchez is a bit of a disrespectful prick?
    – Arsenal are so poorly run and Sanchez is so finished with Wenger that he can’t be blamed for meeting with PSG?
    – Wenger has actually given Sanchez permission to have these discussions, despite maintaining this front of “Alexis is going nowhere”?
    – something else?”

Out of those it looks like it is Sanchez is finished with Arsenal and Arsenal may have given him permission to sort out his stuff with PSG before the bid(s) are put in.

What I never understand is Wenger’s pathetic stance in these situations. Every time. Makes the club a laughing stock with his predictions and statements of players not leaving. What’s wrong with the man? Utter delusion? Head in the sand? Bullshitter of the century? Absolutely unable to face up to realities?

  45. Cesc Appeal

Tell you what is annoying, the way Sanchez was the last to come out right at the end of the season to bash the protests against Wenger and told all supporters to get behind Wenger, right before he decides to kick for the exit.

Basically, he saved Wenger’s bacon last season, without him it could have got much worse, he then had a go about protests, all before f*****g off.

Do not blame him for leaving, but he should not have said anything about the protests against Wenger seeing as what he is doing right now is the greatest of all protests against Wenger.

Also, someone remind John Cross about his ‘Sanchez staying is dependent on Wenger staying’ shite.

  46. Alexanderhenry

    Pedro

I also like Elneny. Composed, neat and tidy player with a good touch. I hope we keep him.

On transfers it’s perfectly clear that arsenal won’t make any more significant signings until they sell.

Given the resources available to the club, this is a scandal.

  47. Cesc Appeal

    Karim

Certainly would, with Rabiot and Verratti behind in that 4-3-3 and Motta or Krychowiak deep.

    Pretty decent.

David Luiz, until last season, was the laughing stock of world football defending. Part of the Brazil team utterly ruined by the Germans…a footballer that Sir Gary Neville described as a “play station player”.

But now the blogger (who didn’t meet an agent) takes his word as gospel that our black Giroud is a real handful on the pitch. Sheesh.

Arsenal are a rotten dirtbag team, with a snake manager and a fanbase that makes the scousers look a little less demented.

    This blog still sucks.

  51. Daz

Sanchez may really just be unwilling to play in the europa league he considers himself to be one of the best in the world. Had we made top 4 and offered him a wedge he may well have stayed

    Woah hahahahah that was amazing.

Did you come up with that all by yourself big boy.

Fuck me that was a classic line dale

So stoked you wasted 15 min to
Think of it and probably 20m to type it out

“tell me what you think of this meal I’m halfway through cooking.”

If your using cheap produce well past it’s use by date, I’d hazard a guess it will be quite unpleasant.

    What’s your thing with firey’s

    1 of 2 possibilities.

    1) homo erotic fantasies about fire-men so you lash out because you’re angry that you have those feelings. It’s ok bro. It’s 2017. No one will judge.

    Or
2). You’re wife cheated on you with on so you carry a grudge.

Either way. It’s not healthy. Let it go bro

The most important statements coming out of Arsenal this summer are:

    1. The club is only interested in buying players who are an upgrade on what we have got in first team [Gazidis]

    2. Arsenal will be bringing in only two or three new players [Wenger at end of
    last season].

    3. Sanchez is not leaving the club this summer [Wenger on several occasions].

If the club deviates from these statements the management will lose all credibility.

My view is still that Arsenal will only buy one more player this summer. The
strongest rumour all summer has been Lemar.

Surprisingly there has been very little evidence of serious interest in any other players. It suggests to me that our shopping list this summer is rather limited.

    Wallace. Stop.

I’m going to let you kids wrestle this out. I have GOT to watch…joking. Can you imagine. Guns of Hackney doing anything less than take names and break hearts? No, neither can I.

    Enjoy your blog, douchbags.

Sanchez will leave, just accept it! It was all decided the night we drew 3-3 at Bournmouth. Those that thought otherwise, are as deluded as our manager.

  76. Joe

And before anyone says anything , this was dale’s post the other day:

    I don’t give a f*ck what Joe the fireman is racially called….

That’s the kind of low-life scum he is. A few of them on here

  77. WengerEagle

Fuck off offering us Rafinha, Barca you cheeky wankers. Sky sources running this story. 30 million.

24 year old so-so CM, as if we aren’t already littered with average midfielders.

Will be typically underwhelming if we sign him.

    And you know this how?

  79. Cesc Appeal

    WE

Do you think the Sanchez sale will spark some buys? I mean the club must know the fan base is going to lose its shit on that one.

Still badly need a CM and a RM/LM, would like a CB as well.

  80. Joe

    Cesc.

    MAybe one. Mahrez?

But if we lose Sanchez and get laca and mahrez/Lemar i don’t see that as a hugely positive window.

We will be pretty much standing still

  81. Marko

It’s a true shame about Sanchez. Probably worth noting but irrelevant at this time but a few early marquee signings could have convinced him to stay. He looked at what City were doing and looked at what Arsenal were doing and he’d be forgiven for thinking one club was ambitious and the other wasn’t

    He has a crystal ball.

  83. WengerEagle

Perhaps CA but it’ll be the usual quantity over quality shit we’re all to accustomed to by now.

Anyone that believes that we are signing Lemar and Mahrez or Lemar and Goretzka is out of their mind, we have never signed 2 marquee players in one window, never mind 3.

I expect Sanchez to be sold and a couple of underwhelming pick-ups, Rafinha fits the bill alright.

  84. Joe

Like we when we sold cesc and Nasri and we bought. Per. Arteta. Park. Yossi. Santos

But only after we lost 8-2

We may have to wait for the Leicester/Liverpool/stoke/ big loss and crowd unrest for some

  85. WengerEagle

And I think the fans have proved at this stage that they’ll simply lie down, shut up and take any thing the club attempt to penetrate them with, Wenger was smirking after we got our badge embarrassed on a global stage last season and you had the so called ‘die hard’ WOBs like Troopz saying they simply will accept the decision for a contract extension for AW and back him next season, deluded cunts the lot of them.

    As if anything changes.

“but a few early marquee signings could have convinced him to stay. He looked at what City were doing and looked at what Arsenal were doing and he’d be forgiven for thinking one club was ambitious and the other wasn’t”

looks like City are going to blow 140m on three full backs. ambition’s one word for it, i guess.

  87. TR7

With Sanchez gone and Wally, Ramsey and Wenger still at AFC it does not really matter what happens next in the transfer window.

  88. Joe

looks like City are going to blow 140m on three full backs. ambition’s one word for it, i guess.

Didn’t you and everyone else on here say defence was what pep had to work on this summer?

Go back to your dinner. Useless commentary

  89. WengerEagle

    Na, give me Ramsey.

At least he has shown periods of high level performance in the past.

I cannot remember more than maybe 3-5 matches I have ever even particularly noticed Rafinha, forget about impressing.

Not even close to Thiago talent wise.

Andre Gomes is another one, and they want to sign former Spud flop Paulinho now?!!!

How can you go from having the best midfield on the planet from just shy of a decade to forgetting what a quality midfield player even looks like?

    Weird shit.

  90. Marko

looks like City are going to blow 140m on three full backs. ambition’s one word for it, i guess.

I mean I kind of get what you’re saying but at least they’re not afraid to go out and get what they need and also you don’t see their best players wanting to leave and questioning their ambitions.

  91. Samir

We should really have got rid of Sanchez weeks ago. But got his replacement in first.

Now a lot of the quality wingers are gone or very close to joining new teams. Realistically, looks like we’re going to have another terrible summer.
This team will finish no higher than 7th. West Ham and Everton will probably finish above us.

  92. Dissenter

Tabloid rumor; “Recent reports indicate that the Gunners had accepted a £10m bid for Mohamed Elneny only to have Elneny refuse the deal, citing his love for London”
What the f***? Surely this cannot be true. A player wont leave because he likes London?
    Is Arsenal a lengthy vacation?
Wenger is too much of a nice guy

  93. WengerEagle

Don’t disagree Vicky but how come Elneny is never mentioned?

Dreadful player. Hides out on the pitch which for me is unforgivable for a midfielder.

At least Ramsey attempts to impose himself on the game even if he has played like wank.

  94. WengerEagle

The kid Phil Foden looks a prospect, reminded of Jack a lot in his style of play the way he strides through space and can spin on a sixpence when receiving the ball. Lefty as well, has a peg on him.

Fact he is 17 and impressing is insane, Pep is already smitten with him.

  95. Wallace

everyone – Wenger, Pep. Conte, Mourinho – has remarked on how difficult this summer has been to get the players in. there’s too much money in the game. clubs no longer need to sell, so you have to offer something ridiculous to make anything happen. 50m for a solid full back just blows my mind.

  96. WengerEagle

    Yep, game has gone bonkers.

50 million for Kyle Walker, 70 million for a player in Morata that has yet to crack 20 in the league and 30 goals overall despite his inflated reputation.

And clubs like Monaco can afford to reject a 45 million pound bid for a LB in Mendy and RB Leipzig rebuffing a 60 million pound plus bid from Liverpool for Naby Keita.

  97. WengerEagle

I find it baffling that Chelsea want to sell Matic and Diego Costa for Bakayoko and Morata.

Only thing in their favour is age, IMO it is a downgrade in quality alone before you even bring chemistry/adjustment periods into the argument.

  98. Samir

Juve are getting Bernardeschi for £35M. What the hell are we doing? Why haven’t we jumped in offering first team football and higher wages?

He is much better than anyone else available to replace Sanchez. This club really is annoying.

  99. Cesc Appeal

    WE

Agree with everything you have said.

I said a while back the fan base was pathetic (generally) and got some stick for it, but I think it is true. Wenger, Kroenke etc are basically taking the piss out of the club and have been for a while.

What annoys me most is the way they operate on a completely different plane where words like ambition, success, accountability etc have completely different meanings at Arsenal compared to literally every other top club.

I think we will end up with Mahrez after Sanchez goes, Wenger clearly wants Lemar but I think Monaco will now hold out for a big sum and we just will not pay it. The thought of Xhaka, Ramsey, Mahrez and Ozil being the four men in our middle in that 3-4-2-1 makes me think a car crash is on the way.

Actually feel a little concerned by Ozil’s new deal as well, simply do not think we can win anything major with him because his weaknesses are so glaring and Wenger just cannot build the side around him to both maximise his attributes and cover for his glaring weaknesses. Basically means we are stuck with him for four years.

Also, said yesterday, really Wenger needs to sort out what he is doing future wise by next summer. The egotist cannot drag the club through another season like last year. So next summer he either needs to extend or quit.

  100. Marko

Sky reporting that Chelsea are opening negotiations with Arsenal for Chamberlain next week when they’re back in London. Also interested in highly rated Malang Sarr of Nice. Where’s those Simon Kjaar rumours…
