Arsenal leak story to pressure manager to spend

by .

So, this summer is either going to end with something interesting, or it’s going to be a series of… ‘but we tried’ moments.

Big clubs are in the process of doing their business right now. Arsenal really don’t appear to be up to much.

The Lacazette story is bubbling away in the background. Arsene Wenger probably knows he’s not really elite which is why he’s struggling to muster the guts to go £40m. Remember, that’s a fee he baulked at for genuine goal scoring talent a few years ago when we could have had the Hig. That’s also £10m more than he was going to pay for the Premier League’s top goal scorer. Last season, Lacazette couldn’t outperform Ibrahimovic at 35. The season before, when he banged in 27 goals, I think 8 were penalties. The risk is… is he being held back because he plays in an average team?

Julian Draxler has come out and said he wants out of Wolfsburg. The German team finished a dismal 8th last year, but for me, a player of Draxler’s talent isn’t agitating for a move to Arsenal unless there’s some sort of childhood connection. He’s on record as saying he wanted Juventus in June. With the bianconeri flush with cash, flush with an absolutely incredible squad going into 2017, you’d have to say, it’s most likely that’s where he wants to go.

I could be wrong.

Mustafi should be a goer if we want him, considering the financial trouble Valencia are in, but I guess that depends on how long we mess around for before we’re gazumped.

Mahrez feels like a pipe dream rumour that suits Arsenal to let run…

Arsenal are dropping releases in The Times that say they’ll give the manager more than the £100m they had planned on giving to the summer.

Is that not a bit strange? Kind of feels like the corporate team trying to apply public pressure on a manager who is probably not being very clear about what he wants right now.

We’re 11 days from the start of the season people. We have signed one senior player, because let’s be honest, we didn’t sign Asano or Rob Holding for the first team no matter how much Wenger tries to shit you. We’ve signed one senior player. Fans whacking skippy that Wenger might do a madness. Come on, if we do a madness, it’ll be a panic madness after the first three games of the season go down the toilet.

Time is running out. So the… ‘yeah, but who else has had a good summer’ comment keeps bubbling. For me, it doesn’t matter. Our summer is the most important. We have stability. Cash. But no intent. The very fact Wenger is pumping up 150+ games Chamberlain is on a ‘make or break’ season tells you a lot. The fact Gibbs, Theo and Jenkinson are still here tells you even more. Wenger doesn’t like change and he’s lost his edge. But back to others…

United have owned the summer, absolutely beasting everyone by wrapping up deals for the best players across 4 leagues last season (assuming Pogba drops)

City have signed 4 players and look like adding John Stones and Gabriel Jesus… to a pretty damn talented squad.

Chelsea are rebuilding a title winning side under a manager who worked wonders with a super average Italian side.

Juventus have signed 6-7 players

Dortmund have signed 6-7 players

Sevilla have signed 10 players

Barcelona have signed 4 players

Atletico have signed 6 players

Leicester have signed 5 players

Liverpool have signed 6 players (MANNINGER IS ONE)

What have we done?

Nowt. When does doing pretty much nothing ever change the fortunes of a team that consistently fails? Almost never.

Right, see you tomorrow.

“The idiot is probably looking for a job at Arsenal no doubt.”

Hey, have some respect for Lauren! You don’t have to agree with him, he’s just giving his opinion. He did say that we need a new striker as Giroud lacks x-factor. He also wanted a commanding CB so it’s not like he said everything is rosy.

  2. Crusaderrabbit

Something no-one seems to have thought about…

If you were a top name player why would you sign for a club where the manager that signs you might leave at the end of the season?

    or

If you were a top name player why would you sign for a club where the manager who has failed to win the CL or the PL for 12 seasons might sign another contract even if he fails again this season.

This is where the issue is – if you really want to play for Wenger why sign now unless you were sure he would stay? On the other hand if you want to win trophies why sign now when there’s still a possibility he would stay on?

If I knew he was leaving would be quite happy not to sign anyone else to keep the powder dry for the next guy, if he;s staying he should be going all out to get in the best players he can. In reality he’s probably staying put, yet still doing nothing.

To my mind this TW window was always going to be even more f@cked because of the contract situation adding to his usual incompetency

It’s great to be a Gooner

We’re still a big club. We have a good squad with some top players already. While I don’t feel atm we can attract the really elite players we’re still an attractive option for everyone just below that top level. Plus we’re in London and pay pretty good wages

  4. Cesc Appeal

Really is frustrating how lackadaisical we’ve been this window, we could have got so much done, it isn’t just the new players we all know we need still don’t look likely to come in with our season ten days away, its the fact there’s still players in the squad taking up room, wages and that could have been used to raise even more funds still here…total wasters as well like Walcott.

Our transfer set up needs an overhaul, obviously that isn’t likely whilst the chief obstacle is in the way, but we need to drastically improve our infrastructure in the future.

  5. Red&White4life

“My hunch is that Arsenal will buy Mustafi and Lacazette.”
But unfortunately, arsène is not Arsenal

  6. Alexanderhenry

I looked at that times article and it’s suspect. You should know that when it comes to transfers, many if not most football journalists write a lot of baloney.

There are no quotes and no sources in that article.

I hope I’m wrong, but I think wenger has spent most of his budget already. I predict that any more big signings will be financed through player sales.

The positive is that we do have players we can move on for a reasonable fee. At the moment we have Xhaka, Ozil, Ramsay, Wilshire, Coquelin, Elneny and Cazorla who are all central midfielders. We also have walcott and the ox, both of whose futures look a little murky at the moment.

  7. Leedsgunner

Here’s the thing that I find irritating.

The club asks its fans to pay top dollar for its seats and merchandise when on the face of it, all I see is the club making grandiose statements and going through the motions. It’s the half heartedness of it all.

Before the transfer window opens the CEO, the manager, and the owner all talk about their ambition but as soon as they have a chance to show it, during the transfer window, that ambition is nowhere to be found. Funny that.

Even clubs like Middlesborough, Burnley and Hull are going into this years transfer market with a vision and purpose?

    Where’s our purpose?

It’s no longer to win footballing honours is it?

If we finish this transfer window with no further signings the club should do the decent thing and start giving the money back to the fans.

No use leaving the money unspent again and the fans to be lied to.

  8. Paulinho

“I work every day with Ivan, believe me he is highly motivated to bring players in,” said Wenger ahead of tonight’s friendly with Chivas de Guadalajara.

“Sometimes I have to calm him down. I believe as well this is a period where everybody wants to dream, and transfers bring dreams.

“But we live in a realistic world and part of our job is as well to rate the players we have inside the club. One of the values of our club is to give chances to players who deserve it.”

See, Wenger has to calm Gazidis down when Kroenke decides to drop a few pennies on the floor for them to play with.

  9. Red&White4life

“many if not most football journalists write a lot of baloney. ”

Works for some (so-called) football managers’s words as well lol

  10. Red&White4life

“Sometimes I have to calm him down.”
    lol
“But we live in a realistic world”
    Not you, dear arsène.

  11. tunnygriffboy

    Alexander

Have to disagree with you slightly. I think we will bring in those two players

I think the club is in such bother with an ever increasing majority of supporters that not financing and bringing these players in will result in a big protest and seriously bad atmosphere.

It changed last season with the banners and people staying away. Not doing anything this window will further exacerbate the already angry feeling of I would say the majority of supporters.

Not strengthening would put a huge amount of pressure on Wenger. I think it will get nasty, people will have had enough

It’s a make or break window. Get them in and the club gets a lift and can move forward if only slowly. Fail to do so will see a poor season and players leave next year giving the new manager a sh.tfest to deal with.

  12. Leedsgunner

“But we live in a realistic world”

Says the man who has earned millions for not doing very much… lecturing us on living in the real world.

    What a complete c*ckwomble.

  13. Red&White4life

Morata wants to join us ??
One day he wants Arsenal, the other day he wants Inter…

    A f*cking weathercock lol

  14. Leedsgunner

“I think the club is in such bother with an ever increasing majority of supporters that not financing and bringing these players in will result in a big protest and seriously bad atmosphere.”

Which then Wenger will use to explain away dropping points. Remember how he blamed the negative atmosphere at home for the team dropping points?

Doesn’t say very much about the team’s cohesion and mental strength if they can’t put up with fair criticism from people who finance their way of life. We have every right to complain.

At the moment fan dissent is the only thing that is honest about the club.

  15. Steveyg87

Ay you miserable bastards! Cheer up, almost time for the footie to start

Quit refreshing your newsnow page, and pray for the end of August

  16. Steveyg87

“Doesn’t say very much about the team’s cohesion and mental strength if they can’t put up with fair criticism from people who finance their way of life. We have every right to complain”

That’s Arsene for you, a living contradiction.

  17. STV

“I work every day with Ivan, believe me he is highly motivated to bring players in,”

“Sometimes I have to calm him down.

    what a moron!! Fucking chancer.

There’s no chance he will spend big on this tw. Hes not going to alter the formula that has earned him contracts.. It’s all abt him and his job unfortunately.

  18. Steveyg87

Leeds, you have to ask yourself this..

Has the club(Arsene) done anything to suggest that there has been a change to the thought process behind the scenes? All they give a shit about is money and spinning up mediocrity stories and how poor old Arsenal just cant compete with the heavy weights

  19. tunnygriffboy

    Leeds

It can’t be easy or very pleasant playing in front of a hugely negative crowd groaning and moaning at every little thing that goes wrong. Thing is it’s not the players fault. They are just on the recieving end of the frustration created by Wenger and the board.

I hope Wenger and the board get it both barrels from the fans starting in the game tomorrow.

  20. mysticleaves

    Tunny

Re our Giroud/Lukaku comparison earlier..fair enough. I never said Giroud as bad either. He’s just bad for us. And I don’t believe also Giroud is better than Lukaku, Lukaku is already better and is still improving.

    Cheers mate on that

  21. STV

It’s been proven over and over that our miserable spending towards the squad over the years is all down to one man. A despicable man with an Arse in his name..

Fucking Rat! Liar, Fraud and a total fucking psycho.

  22. STV

Players must be fedup. Only a dressing room unrest of epical proportions would kick him out..

Wouldn’t bother myself if it happens..

  23. Leedsgunner

“There’s no chance he will spend big on this tw. Hes not going to alter the formula that has earned him contracts.. It’s all abt him and his job unfortunately.”

Unless we lose badly to Liverpool, then all his self righteous pronouncements about how if you buy more than three players for the senior team you upset the cohesion and chemistry of the squad.

He will panic buy because his reputation is at risk — not because we needed strengthening in the first place… making an absolute mockery of all his supposed prudence earlier in the market. We will be then forced to pick up less than ideal leftovers in the last remaining hours of the transfer market… is this prudence? Is this not being afraid? It is the opposite isn’t?

True prudence anticipates risks, prepares for tomorrow and secures your top targets. Instead of buying because we’ve lost badly, why not buy smartly and in a measured way now so that we don’t lose in the first place?

Sadly for Wenger, only fear drives him to buy and he buys badly under those circumstances.

    Not rocket science is it?

Although Wenger likes to portray himself as a model of probity, the lack of a plan year after year means he is anything but that.

He is THE most reactionary manager of world football.

  24. mysticleaves

A very open question to all.

When people say Xhaka will bring leadership to our team what exactly does this mean? Honest question

  25. Red&White4life

“He will panic buy because his reputation is at risk”
Yes but it will be huge, mahrez + draxler + lacaz + mustafi in the last tw day lol

  26. Louis Almeida

“When people say Xhaka will bring leadership to our team what exactly does this mean? Honest question”

    He’s not a pussy
He likes the game to go through him (dictator)
    Aerially strong
    Strong positionally

  27. Biggles

I’ve not really seen much of Xhaka, so I’m going to ask a stupid question. Where are we going to be playing him? My understanding was that BMG played a 4-4-2, with him being a central midfielder. Are we going to play him in the number 10 spot and shove Ozil out on to the wing again, or are we going to play him beside Santi in front of the defence (although that would obviously harm Coq’s development). Or are we going to drop Santi, who is probably our best player over the last three years?

My other idea is we could play him on the right wing, Ramsey could replace Wilshere on the bench and Wilshere could replace Diaby in the treatment room.

  28. mysticleaves

    Leeds
Tbf this world is a reactionary world, if there’s no action, then there’s no reaction!

Calling Kante WC on the back of one good season in the PL is reactionary. Buying players after 8-2 spanking is reactionary. Making a change after going 2-0 down is reactionary. Subbing an extra defender when leading 1-0 is reactionary. Eating food when hungry is reactionary. And soooooo on

  29. tunnygriffboy

    Louis

Yes all of those things. Plus he’s very vocal. Won’t be long before he tells Ramsey” Wtf. Where are you going? Get back here and cover our defence ”

He’ll be needed and others will need to step up with Mert missing.

  30. mysticleaves

    “He’s not a pussy
He likes the game to go through him (dictator)
    Aerially strong
    Strong positionally”

So a younger Arteta then cool.

You know why I asked this? Cos I always thought Mert, Arteta, Rosicky as leaders both off and on the pitch. But the press kept coming out with the line that we don’t have leaders in our team. And this only happened when we lost a game. And the fans bought this

  31. Champagne charlie

    Biggles

Xhaka is a holding midfielder, think Coquelin with a football brain and superior technique/passing ability. Our Xabi Alonso if you will, with greater emphasis on physicality. Basically he’s not going anywhere near the wing or #10 position.

He’ll be the deepest midfielder every time he plays with someone like Cazorla, Ramsey, Elneny alongside him covering the ground between boxes. With more mobile CB’s Xhaka can drop between the two to really stretch our shape. He’s a top signing in the making

  32. Louis Almeida

Xhaka is a DM, not a #10. He’ll be the reference point of the team. Breaking up attacks then instigating them.

Santi’s time as a starter is finished. I love him but doubt he’ll be used much this season, especially when he’s still badly suffering with an Achilles problem. He only played in the pivot to hold Coquelin’s hand. Xhaka does the same job that we needed two of them will do. Xhaka is probably best suited next to Elneny/Ramsey/Coquelin in that order in my opinion. The weakest part of his game is that he’s not the quickest so you’ll lose a bit of the mobility that Coquelin brought.

    ______________

It’s pathetic. Around May they always come out with statements like: “we want to compete” “It’s only a few players in the world we can’t buy” “We have a warchest” etc etc then when it’s time to put those words into action they come out with comments like “we have to be careful”. Embarrassing really.

  34. STV

A young Arteta statement put me off tbh.. What the one played for Rangers? or Barca B..

I don’t rate Arteta the leader sorry folks.. The leadership for me is not just about be vocal and giving lessons, they should b lead by example. First man to come last man to go, players should be able to learn from him inspired by him etc..

    Arteta was terrible.

  35. mysticleaves

Glowing praises of Xhaka. Remember all these praises when he makes one or two mistakes along the season. Lol.

I love Xhaka but I don’t think he deserves all these praises or he is as good as we make him to be. Else he would be at Bayern/Real Madrid

  36. Red&White4life

And then, like the other recent famous leaders (Per, Koz, Cech…), Xhaka will realise what a shit manager le specialist in failure is, and he will slowly disappear…

Just like Ozil, even if mesut has never been a “leader”.

  37. Louis Almeida

“I love Xhaka but I don’t think he deserves all these praises or he is as good as we make him to be. Else he would be at Bayern/Real Madrid”

Well he’s 23 so still there’s obvious room for improvement. He has said since his Basel days that his dream was always to play in England. He had a release clause which kicked in next summer and the strong rumour was that Bayern wanted to activate it in 2017 but we got in early and paid £30m+ which is a lot for a DM and something I never saw Wenger doing really.

  38. mysticleaves

    Stv

Not the Rangers or the Barca B one. The Arteta that played for Arsenal in a younger body.

Oh and he was/is a leader. Led by example in terms of professionalism and also in terms of holding the team together. A leader doesn’t have to be vocal (or pointy) lol

  39. Micheal

I fear that we will not buy any top quality players this time around. If correct, what is Wenger’s first team (when all available) ?

I think he will go for this:

    Cech
    Bellerin Gabriel Kos Monreal
    Xhaka Ramsey
    Jack Ozil Sanchez
    Giroud

Good enough to win anything ? Not a chance !

  40. Red&White4life

The gif posted by Pedro is really a good resume of what wenger is doing to the mind of the fans lol

  41. mysticleaves

    Louis
“Well he’s 23 so still there’s obvious room for
    improvement.”

That’s why I don’t understand why we portray him as the finished article. Someone who will come in and immediately work wonders. Maybe he could, maybe not but I think we are setting him up for the fall.

The expectation bar is already too high for him and the same fans bigging him up will destroy him when he doesn’t do these things immediately.

Thank God he’s Albanian and made of steel apparently

  42. Louis Almeida

“That’s why I don’t understand why we portray him as the finished article. ”

Nobody has said this? But he is definitely better than what we have otherwise we wouldn’t have spent that much. What DMs do you know that go for £30m+? His style is very similar to Xabi Alonso. Only the latter completed more passes than him in the Bundesliga last season.

He already has loads of CL experience and has played a WC and Euros. He’s very highly rated which is why he has been bigged up and linked to top teams.

  43. mysticleaves

The price was more as a result of inflation than how good he was tbh.

Louis, you are the better kind. I doubt you would slate a player after 5 bad games but I can’t say that of some others. What they just need is for a journo to say it in one of the dailies

  44. Red&White4life

    “there’s only one arsène wenger!!”

I have a very bad dream last night : wenger dna was cloned by aliens.

  45. Relieable Sauce

Arteta was a yes man good for PR and not much else.

Nowhere near good enough to command the respect of the players you get in a top team.

Incredible how he is so overrated by some.
    Arsenal football club is flocked.

  46. grooveydaddy

Cech’s old gk coach has been replaced at Chelsea.

We should grab him. Gotta be better than Peyton??

  47. reality check

He already has loads of CL experience and has played a WC and Euros. He’s very highly rated which is why he has been bigged up and linked to top teams.

The one area that concerns me the most about xhaka. Is his turn of pace. He looks slow, the type of slow where if he loses the ball, he can’t immediately turn and track it back. If we as a team lose the ball high up the field like we generally do, his ability to turn and chase is lacking.

Hes very young. Way to young to carry a club the size of Arsenal, so i wont criticize him too much, if at all. But I’m not going to over praise him before he delivers either.

Besides he’s not the issue this season. Wenger is, Feo is, The Ox, Debuchy, Gabriel, Crock, Giroud and an unhappy Sanchez is.

We have so many issues in this squad. Even if Wenger is the best manager we ever had, no one man can solve all these issues by himself.

  48. Akilan

I also read somewhere that xhaka was in the bundesliga team of the year for 2 years running. Maybe wrong though. And he was already the captain of his former club and soon will be the captain of his country. And he IS a DM by trade. He’ll make some mistakes though going by his reputation as a hot head. His playing position and his lack of mobility will make some problems but all in all it’s a top top signing…

  49. grooveydaddy

Gerry Peyton seems like a mong by all accounts, reflecting in our goalkeepers’ performances over the years (even Cech’s ).

  50. TitsMcGee

Lol. Alexander must be pissed that Arsene isn’t making it easy for him on le grove.”

Wenger needs to give him the laced kool-aid and be done with it.

  51. TitsMcGee

“There’s no chance he will spend big on this tw. Hes not going to alter the formula that has earned him contracts.. It’s all abt him and his job unfortunately.”

I wouldn’t say no chance but I’d definitely say little chance and even if he does spend big once more he’ll still some how leave us short.

  52. mysticleaves

    Akilan

Am not sure Xhaka has been in the bundesliga team of the year before. Maybe once but not twice and not last season. He was second in the Mochnglabach poll to that Chelsea boy Chris-something

  53. mysticleaves

“We have so many issues in this squad. Even if
Wenger is the best manager we ever had, no one
man can solve all these issues by himself.”

Sell the dross, buy competent replacements that can perform, lay greater emphasis on tactics. Someone paid 8mil per annum should do this without problems no?

  54. OleGunner

Damn, could our transfer business be any slower..
I even just took the pathetic route of looking at Newsnow for the first time in ages and it makes for some grim, boring and unrealistic transfer speculations.

Please Wenger just don’t leave the squad out to dry this season again.
Not fair on the players or fans.

  55. Bamford10

“But we live in a realistic world and part of our job is as well to rate the players we have inside the club. One of the values of our club is to give chances to players who deserve it.” – Arsene Wenger

God, I loathe this man. I simply cannot wait until he fucks off.

Parades, festooned windows and streets, a north London filled with joy, hope and song.

    Until then …

  56. OleGunner

    R&W
I wish he would bloody leave (for the last 4 years now) but the old goat ain’t walking away from £8m a year and winning on his “terms”.

Foolishly thought this summer he just might push the boat out and sign what we need but it’s looking increasingly unlikely.

Jokes on me I guess for being a fucking moron.

  57. mysticleaves

    KH

Nice point re those 3. As defensive actions come, you hardly find one better than Coq, offensively is where they say he lacks. I don’t see any noteworthy limitations either

  58. Up 4 grabs now

You have to think if per doesn’t get injured we would have gone into the season with just Xhaka.
Mertesacker is out of contract at the end of the season and so far chambers & Gabriel haven’t covered themselves in glory, yet there was no urgency from him to go for a new centre half.

You know he’s foolishly thinking right wings covered with Chamberlain, Iwobi, Theo, Jack and Aaron so why bother.
That’s why I’m not holding my breath on Mahrez or Draxler.

And don’t get me started on griezmann!!!!!

  59. TitsMcGee

“But we live in a realistic world and part of our job is as well to rate the players we have inside the club. One of the values of our club is to give chances to players who deserve it.” – Arsene Wenger

God, I loathe this man. I simply cannot wait until he fucks off.”

    He’s certainly F.O.S

It has to be deliberate because there is no way he sits back and actually thinks the last 12 years are coincidence or bad luck unless he’s a madman. You would think logic/common sense would kick in after a while “hey maybe the way I’m doing things needs to change”. The fact that he hasn’t changed means that he simply doesn’t want to.

You just get the feeling that he loathes the summer because he basically has to pull excuses out of his arse every week or throw the fans a bone here and there with a signing or two just to get through the two – three months.

  60. TitsMcGee

“But we live in a realistic world and part of our job is as well to rate the players we have inside the club”

The same players that have won a grand total of ZERO EPL titles.

  61. Akilan

    Mystic,
Yes mate. He wasn’t in the team of the season last year and I doubt he was in the year before either. Still a good signing I reckon.
Any chance we’ll sign mustafi? That guy Pablo has said that we’re planning a meeting with Valencia. He got it right RE Vardy. I’m at the stage I’ll be happy with anyone now. Liverpool is so so close….

  62. OleGunner

According to BBC’s David Ornstein (isn’t he one of the few reliable journo’s?), Arsenal’s interest in Mustafi and Mahrez is yet to be followed up by any talks.

  63. Marko

Yeah tits he doesn’t really care to change. It’s hardly like in his what 17th year as Arsenal manager he’s finally going to go into a season fully prepared. And I mean you still get people sticking up for him yeah let’s give him till the end of the window as long as we get in the players. First off that almost never happens and besides the point most well run decent progressive clubs get in their signings way before the first game of the season cause it’s smart

  64. Marko

According to BBC’s David Ornstein (isn’t he one of the few reliable journo’s?), Arsenal’s interest in Mustafi and Mahrez is yet to be followed up by any talks.

Arsenal’s transfer team hard at work. I mean it’s not like the start of the season isn’t just around the corner. I swear if Mustafi ends up at Chelsea it’ll be inexcusable

  65. TitsMcGee

According to BBC’s David Ornstein (isn’t he one of the few reliable journo’s?), Arsenal’s interest in Mustafi and Mahrez is yet to be followed up by any talks.”

    lol

Ornstein is pretty reliable and not known for unsubstantiated claims. So appears we are (at the moment) full steam ahead down another shambolic summer window.

We’ll probably do more business towards the end if we get some bargain but enough to make us contenders? Very unlikely you’d have to say.

  66. TitsMcGee

First off that almost never happens and besides the point most well run decent progressive clubs get in their signings way before the first game of the season cause it’s smart”

Bayern announced Renato Sanches and Hummels within days of the end of last season if memory serves.

How this guy gets away with this shiiite every season is a bad indictment on Arsenal fans I’m afraid. Couldn’t see this happening at any other big club.

Some will prop that up as us having “class” when in reality it’s us lacking the balls.

  67. STV

I think Wenger might change his plans and even sign a defender now that Merts is out for 5 months..

If Chelsea is in for Musfafi, rest assured he’ll go for Johny Evans which would be fucking hilarious !

Great to be gooner these days.

  68. Leedsgunner

So instead of bringing in reinforcements as he should — he’s recalling Sanchez and Rabo early from their holidays to play in some meaningless friendlies… so they are ready to face Liverpool.

I’m not sure this is a good idea. Rambo has an average injury record at best, and we need Sanchez at his absolute best especially if we do not buy another striker.

If Sanchez and Rambo get subsequently injured with long lay offs either during the game or shortly after will anyone at the club hold him responsible? Or will Mr. Bad Luck get the blame again?

Even so, I ask you, why are we paying such an unlucky manager to the tune of £8.5m pa to make the same mistakes again and again, and to blame anyone else but him?

For all his self professed mental strength he lacks courage to face up to his mistakes.

  69. Marko

What class? How is a prudent more like negligent approach to transfer Windows class? How is poor inefficient football class? Giving kids a chance? That’s actually a myth these days and besides Iwobi only got his chance cause shock horror the other available players were absolutely shite or in Bellerin’s case Debuchy got injured. What is classy about our set up these days? Not spending any money and sticking to our principles perhaps? I mean but we regularly suffer embarrassing losses every season and come no closer to challenging for the title or in Europe where like clockwork every season we struggle to get out of the groups and get straight knocked out. What class exists anymore? The marble floors were at Highbury

  70. TitsMcGee

For all his self professed mental strength he lacks courage to face up to his mistakes.”

As someone else said above he’s just looking out for his own good right now. Every season he tops up his bank account by 8.5 million. It’s really just greed at the moment. He knows he’s done. Gazidas knows he’s done. The AKBs know he’s done deep down as well although they’d never admit it. Stan is more concerned with the new L.A Rams and the stadium that will be built there.

Never has a manager/head coach of any professional franchise in any sport in any era had it as good as Wenger has it now. He is literally bullet proof provided he stays at least average when other managers get fired for good seasons.

  71. STV

I don’t think having them back before the first match will badly affect us. Ideally I would like Sanchez and Ozil in our first game. There’s no real need to miss them. Every club is having their player coming back from holidays..

The real problem is lack of proper fitness management, Wenger’s inability to proper squad rotation etc.. See 50% of our injuries happens during the training, that’s a shocking indictment to Wenger’s outdated training and lack of emphasis in player’s fitness.

  72. Leedsgunner

Any money that Arsene thinks he is saving by playing “hardball” will be for nought if we get exposed by Liverpool and Leicester.

Any club with a player that is really worth signing will press us for every penny (especially as our Board has announced to the world how rich we are… not that it was a secret).

For a multimillion pound organisation, we conduct our transfers like novice apprentices on a fun day out. Amateur doesn’t begin to describe the clubs’ incompetence.

  73. Diabyearnshowmuch

in any other industry our manager and board would be sacked for gross misconduct…….how the fuck are you supposed to integrate new players in time for the start of the season……….mind you, who are the real twats here……….the management…..or us fans for expecting anything different year in year out.

  74. Marko

We wouldn’t have to be rushing back these players if we properly address the squad. I mean the year before last when we rushed back Alexis when Villa was beating us after he had zero training sessions was an absolute joke. Pretty sure we rushed him back last season when West Ham were embarrassing us opening day. I mean what are we gonna do if Liverpool are beating us 2-0 next week tape up Koscielny’s knee and throw him on? I mean these are the reasons for why you get in new signings nice and early. You don’t wait until you suffer a couple of early season defeats

  75. Leedsgunner

All last season, before this latest transfer window opened I along with others like Wenger Eagle and Cesc Appeal said — it doesn’t matter who we sign if we don’t sort out our fitness and rehab regimes.

We’ll be p*ssing money that we don’t apparently have if we can’t keep our players fit…

We need to find out why our players suddenly become more injury prone once they start training under Arsene. The answer to that question will literally save us millions.

  76. TitsMcGee

“how the fuck are you supposed to integrate new players in time for the start of the season”

Wenger will counter that argument by defending why he’s only brought in one real contributor in Xhaka. He’ll claim that the reason he only bought minimally was to not disrupt the squad balance.

Not disrupting the squad balance for a club that finished 10 points behind and finishes an average of 13.8 points behind the last 12 seasons. That’s the kind of horse shiiiter we are dealing with.

  77. Louis Almeida

Not to be pedantic but Alexis isn’t being rushed back. He had 3 weeks holiday. Copa America finished a week before the Euros. He’s fit. Every other player bar the French/Portuguese are back at their club. Ozil is also back training now.

  78. STV

“We need to find out why our players suddenly become more injury prone once they start training under Arsene.”

Absolutely while we do attract some perma crocks, the majority of the injuries are purely down to our outdated methods and style I believe..

  79. STV

There’s nothing like rush back if they’re had a 20-25 days of rest.

In fact Alexis last season was given extended rest, coming back after the season started and lacked any preseason preparations..

Unsurprisingly he totally looked out of shape.

  80. Louis Almeida

Real Madrid have offered 65m euros for David Alaba. Like Muller, I think he’s just one of the players that Bayern won’t sell for any price. Part of the culture of the club.

  81. Louis Almeida

Messi played a pre-season game yesterday. He played in the same final as Alexis. Alexis was also out for 3 months earlier in the season so I don’t think he’s burnout. For sure Wenger will need to better manager his workload though.

  82. Leedsgunner

“Not to be pedantic but Alexis isn’t being rushed back. He had 3 weeks holiday. Copa America finished a week before the Euros. He’s fit. Every other player bar the French/Portuguese are back at their club.”

I thought Alexis picked up a nasty ankle injury that he was told to be careful about didn’t he? In any case wi th Chile winning the Copa America, Sanchez has been playing pretty much non stop for 12 months at least hasn’t he?

Like I said if Sanchez is going to be like a new signing and step up as our “new striker” in light of Wenger’s incompetence in the transfer market we need him to be fresh.

  83. Marko

He’ll claim that the reason he only bought minimally was to not disrupt the squad balance.

What balance? We were abysmal at times last season. Cohesion went out the window and was replaced by poor attacking football.

Louis Alexis having time off isn’t really the issue (he had a bad ankle btw) but rather we’ve Liverpool in what 8/9 days time and he’s just back training. Not enough time. Granted this summer every team had a shorter pre season but giving someone so important a week to get fit for the start of the season is a risk. Especially considering how messed up his ankle looked recently

  84. Up 4 grabs now

The one thing we do need to do is bring in players that will upset the squad balance.
It’s the no fear factor that pisses me off. Players knowing they don’t have to fight for there places have a stinker and be in the team for the following game.
Players get paid a fortune to play, if they don’t perform I don’t care about there feelings, I want players thinking if I don’t play well I’m dropped.
Let them dry there eyes with there fifty pound notes!!!!

  85. Joe

God, I loathe this man. I simply cannot wait until he fucks off. Parades, festooned windows and streets, a north London filled with joy, hope and song.

    Bam

Fuck off down the lane. You are not a true Arsenal fan :-)))

  86. Louis Almeida

Leedsgunner/Marko, Wenger said a couple times last week that Alexis’ ankle is fine. He could’ve come to the America tour but was left at home for further recuperation time. The player himself also said to the Chile Press that he’s ok and that it looked a lot worse than it actually is. If he was actually injured he wouldn’t have been forced to come back. There is of course an argument that he needs loads of minutes to be match fit. We have two more pre-season games to play. I don’t think that’s enough but a player is only going to be match fit by playing matches.

  87. Joe

So Arsenal(arsene) haven’t even entered talks with mustafi and mahrez.

So all the interest is media heresay

And with Arsenal(arsene) and his snails pace of getting transfers done, no way they get done in the next 2 weeks

And what will marhez think if we drop points to Liverpool and Leicester.

  88. Louis Almeida

“Point is Louis his pre season starts slightly over a week before the start of the season. It isn’t enough”

I agree. It’s not ideal but when are things ever ideal, especially in Arsenal land. This is Alexis we’re talking about. This guy will still be running when he’s injured. It’s not like he’s gotten out of shape. Pre-season is mainly about getting your fitness up. Ibra only played for United the first time the other day. Ideally he would’ve wanted longer to acclimatise and get to know his team mates but it’ll come through the season. As long as the base fitness is there, that’s the most important thing.

  89. Leedsgunner

    Wenger and injuries… Sanchez

Remember when it was announced that Welbeck was out for a further four months literally the day after the summer transfer window closed? And how Wenger, when questioned, knew nothing about it?!? This is of course after weeks saying Welbeck was making good progress.

Remember how Wilshere was supposed to be out for just a few weeks… last season… than the weeks grew into months, then the months grew into the season. So much so that Jack in two/three games for England had more playing time last season than he did for us. LOL!

What do we read today, Jack is out for a further week… I’ll believe it when I see it.

Wenger will say anything to put himself in the best light… especially with injuries.

He is the only manager I know who uses as an injury not to buy — because recovering players are “welcomed as new signings.”

    Here’s a thought.

If our squad was deep enough in quality and depth, perhaps the same players wouldn’t get injured so much because they wouldn’t have to be rushed back. Perhaps our title challenge wouldn’t falter and we would do something more impressive than get through the group stages in the Champion’s League.

  90. TitsMcGee

It’ll be a surreal day when Arsenal leaves whenever that day is. Kind of like getting rid of an oppressive country leader.

  91. Joe

    Tits

Arsenal will be reborn the day Wenger leaves.

It’ll be like the biggest weight has been lifted off.

You could almost say ‘the handbrake has been released’

  92. S Asoa

Against the great Barcelona Leicester is showing what a fraud Wenger is. They could unearth Kazasky n Mussa and our Imbecile can’t find his dick when he has to masturbate.
    WENGER OUT

  93. STV

Let’s collect some memorable quotes from Wenger. Don Quixote would be proud..

“Forth place is like winning a cup”

“More than 3 signings will destabilize the team”

“Bentner coming back will be like a new signing ”

“One sign of intelligence in life is not wanting what others have” (good players obviously)

“A good pass is better than a fresh Idea”

    “I built this club”

“Do you want to know how many clubs I turned down to stay here?”

“But it is (transfer) not easy, it is not supermarket stuff ”

“We remain very active in the transfer market.”

    “I always respect my contracts”

“We are working on transfers 24×7”

“When we built the stadium the banks demanded that I signed for five years,”

“You can’t call yourself a big club if you sell your best players,”

    “Judge me in May”

“A good pass is better than a fresh idea”

“I am not scared to spend money”

etc.. Etc.. Feel free to add more 🙂

  94. kingHenry

Asoa: In all fairness Musa is not exactly a special player… at 24 still makes dumb decisions and is incredibly inconsistent. He does have pace though and is a pretty good dribbler and decent finisher, but nothing special.

Besides Walcott terrorized Narcs a couple years ago, and come to think of it so did Wilshere

  95. OleGunner

Wait so Wilshere is missing the Scandinavia trip?
I thought Father Wenger said he is only out for a few “days” and would make this trip.

Not like him to tell porkies./s

  96. tunnygriffboy

Have we signed anyone yet ?

I hope there are two players to unveil before the Liverpool game otherwise it’ll kick off.

Are our hierarchy that blase or out of touch that they don’t recognise the anger that is building or has built in our fan base ?
