Wenger blocks Higuain deal? Yeah right…

Hello darkness my old friend

Genuinely amazed at how much press this Theirry Henry story is receiving. I mean, being a legend shouldn’t grant you privileges. I think Wenger is absolutely right to tell Thierry there’s a conflict of interest if he’s slagging off Arsenal on Sky then rolling into the training ground on a Monday like nothing has happened.

You’re either committed or you’re not.

BUT, as I said yesterday, Wenger should take a leaf out of his own book. Hanging around in France all summer is not a good look. So many people can’t fathom the thought process behind this.

Look, it’s very similar to when a UK PM goes on vacation and something bad happens… but look, the PM is playing golf for 5 days in France, after working most of the year on 18 hour days. Arsene Wenger isn’t jetting off for two weeks here. He’s taking 6 weeks off to work another job after a season which saw zero success.

The summer isn’t free time for a football coach. It’s time to reset and think about what went wrong. Wenger should be assessing the mess of last year, working with his coaches to make us better, pinning his scouts against the lockeroom wall and asking why their suggestions are no better than the average BT Sport subscriber who watches the weekly euro round up. He should be present. He should exude focus.

Anyone, who has worked in any sort of business will absolutely know that a manager who is not present… ‘but is available via phone’… is not a manager doing a great job. If you disagree with that, sure, that’s your right, but you’re not basing it on anything other than a fabled view that working remotely in a high pressure environment is workable. I’m also pretty sure plenty of management studies point to people doing better work when the main man is in the building.

Anyway, Wenger being away isn’t good for the club and working away isn’t smart if you want to affect change.

No, that’s a lie. It can be for short period. IF, you have an empowered team. Which Arsene Wenger certainly doesn’t.

Also, important to note, that things rarely get done when he is there… so I’m really not sure what people think is happening when he’s away from the club, delivering, as usual, nothing!

In Arsenal news, there’s no news.

The bizarre story of Arsenal swapping an average striker for Serie A’s top scoring player ever was pretty outrageous to begin with. It’s been denied by Wenger now, so that’s that.

There are still stories humming around about Draxler coming… but they’ve been doing the rounds for years.

I’m sure we’re trying to sign players, just like we are every summer, but where’s the aggression? It still feels tepid. Like we’re wandering round Tesco’s pissed at 4am unable to decipher what we want to eat. It still looks like a successful summer is on a wing and a prayer.

But hey, that’s life as an Arsenal fan. Hopefully the next manager we get in will have good relationships with agents, a reputation strong enough to draw players away from their clubs and a work focus that would see them busting a gut during the summer to make improvements.

DREAMS.

Right, over and out. See you tomorrow for more of the same.

There is some bias there but don’t think it’s based on passport, I think he sees Campbell as a squad player who can give a certain level where Jack and ox have a higher ceiling and wenger obviously still feels they can reach that level certainly Jack anyway

    Daz,

I’m tired of reading about “ceiling” with Oxlade and Wilsere.
Oxlade has spent five seasons at Arsenal and progressively got worse. He’s one of the thickest players I know in terms of attitude.
Campbell made more progress on one season, when he got his chance compared to the in-house banter king-Oxlade has had on five seasons.
When I see Oxlade start a game i know we are probably gpoing to lose. If he’s subbed in it seems cosmetic rather that incisive.

Yeah I don’t think ox deserves to play ahead of Campbell either but that’s how I think wenger will see it
