United smashing the summer | Arsene ponders exit | Arsenal secret dealings?

I’m on a productive hot streak today… just give me a job, I swear I could do it!

How are we? EXCITED ABOUT THE EURO FINALS?

Yeah, me too. I keep having this horrendous vision of Cristiano banging in a last-minute worldie to destroy French dreams. It’s written in the stars, isn’t it?

Hopefully not though, Portugal have been turgid to watch this tournament. They don’t deserve it. France do. They’ve played some great football, have more exciting players and obviously there’s an Arsenal interest in there as well.

The stage is set for Paul Pogba, Payet and Griez to do some serious damage today.

In Arsenal news, Arsene Wenger reckons he has no clue what he’ll do at the end of his contract. He mused on England…

“Could I manage England, why not? I would never rule that out, but I am happy and focused in club football.

Then he hit us with some Stockholm Syndrome comments…

“I have one more year to go with Arsenal and I have been with them for a long time. I have always respected all my contacts [throughout my career] and will continue to do that.

“What will I do after that? Honestly, I don’t know.”

*PLEASE ARSENE, STAY, DON’T LEAVE, WE’LL MISS THE NOTHINGNESS OF YOUR TENURE, STAY, THE WINTER IS COMING, DARKNESS EVERYWHERE*

I hope he decides to do something else. He’s not cutting it anymore and jeez, he’s been with us so long. It’s not healthy to embed yourself in something that reeks so heavily of a comfort zone (bed sores and ting). Take the England job. Reawaken the legend of Arsene Wenger by doing something else in the twilight of your career.

As for signings, not much going on. Could that mean we’re in secret talks? Possibly. But let’s be fair, there’s no such thing as secret talks in the world of football these days. Only a fool would negotiate in private when there’s so much money floating around the game!

Ivan: Yo, world class striker, could you keep this meeting quiet?

WC striker: Why Ivan?

Ivan: Trying to get a cheap price for you and make sure there’s not a competitive environment to negotiate your salary

WC striker: Oh sure thing mate, I’d love to keep this quiet and land a substandard deal so you can be perceived as a deal maker

There have been a few stories floating around about Sanchez. Arsenal apparently entertained a bid of £34m for Sanchez. I mean, I get why we’d shift him on, but come on, for a price tag roughly the same as the one bandied around for Troy Deeney? Do me a favour. Sanchez is a £50m player in this market. No doubt about it.

Talks around Mesut and his future have died a death. Which is surprising considering what a tournament he’s had. But, then I’d guess it’s probably quite hard for him to find a club that suits his lifestyle. Not sure Barca would go for him, City wouldn’t get a sniff, nor would United. Outside that, where else is there to go that could drop £140k per week?

Bad news hitting the feeds that United have agreed a deal with Pogba for wages… a cool e13.5m a year! That will be a stunning deal if it goes through and it’ll make United instant title contenders. That my friends is how you get things done.

> Deal with super agents

> Have a plan A and a plan B you want to execute quickly

> Be cool with players earning more than your manager

> Be prepared to pay premium fees for premium players

Factor that in with Chelsea gunning for striker number two… I mean, you’ve got to pray we have a plan here, because it’s looking increasingly like we’ve missed the boat on players again and we’ll be looking at internal solutions again.

So poverty.

Anyway, have a great day. Enjoy the game my darlings!

Charlie that’s absurd. You make it sound like Arda Turan is a CM he’s not he’s a CAM who used to play wide but now doesn’t because he’s lost a yard of pace and a bit of consistency too. You’re basically advocating us playing him opposite Sanchez in a front 3 while acknowledging he doesn’t score or assist much but is an architect much earlier in the play? Then why sign him

  2. Cesc Appeal

    RP CC

That’s what I was thinking, about £20 Million in this market.

So as RP says, £40 Million and Giroud should be enough, if they are genuinely interested in him, might even try lower than that to begin with and see what happens, key though that we’re flexible and willing to pay what we have to pay, sitting on cash is pointless and we need a top rate ST.

  3. WengerEagle

‘How does Draxler cost 45mil after signing for 25mil last season? Because it’s an entirely different economic environment, he had a good season with Wolfsburg, and stood out for Germany in the Euro’s.’

To last season, one year? He wasn’t any better last season than he was for Schalke.

And yes he impressed for Germany in the Euros but not to the extent it would add £20 million to his price-tag.

I’d say £30-35 million max gets you Draxler.

  4. Leedsgunner

I think a striker of Higuain’s pedigree (although he’s not my first choice) would be enough to convince Özil and Sanchez to stay. Who we bring in is as important as who we sell, and keep from our rivals.

Özil accompanied by a proper striker — smiling just thinking about it.

Although if Napoli was interested in a player swap deal I woud be tempted in trying to offload Walcott instead.

  5. Romford Ozil Pele

Raptora, I would never describe Poldi as a poacher type. That’s more Chicarito who scores with any part of his body. Maybe t would’ve been helpful bringing on Poldi but I doubt it. The dude has been washed up for a couple years. You don’t lose instincts, sure but couldn’t see him doing better than Muller who was getting no change from Umitti and Kos.

I’d disagree with Draxler. We already have Alexis who is the goal getter from wide. Obviously Draxler you’d also expect to score double figures but he’s more there to play as the secondary playmaker and make us less predictable.

When you discuss transfer fees this summer to the major clubs in EPL you have to factor in first currency devaluation. The pound has fallen almost 15% since Brexit.

Also there is a significant rise in the revenues of the major clubs in EPL. This is
a combination of increased TV money plus in some cases sharp rises in sponsorship money.

Most of the Continental Clubs are inflating the transfer fees, because otherwise they are not able to compete in the market.

One further factor has to be also the appearance of Chinese investment. Most
of the top players have resisted moving from Europe, but when you see the
ridiculous fees and wages being paid for second rate players or those past their best it will reflect on market.

Benzema more often than not kept Higuain on the bench. Think that it was during the 2011/12 season that Mourinho sometimes preferred Higuain up front.

When push came to shove, they opted to sell Higuain over Benzema in 2013. The latter is still leading the line.

Could go all day re:Turan. Cazorla has always been a central player, we shoehorned him into the side out wide, Turn has always been a wide playmaker, the fact he doesn’t take Messi or Neymars place isn’t evidence against this.. and a free role for Turkey again is piss poor evidence given in that free role he always operates from out wide coming inside.

You’re trying to pigeonhole players into few specific types when that’s not football. Bottom line is Turan would instantly upgrade our RW spot and for relative peanuts in this window. Arguing he’s similar to Cazorla is not even an argument because even if I’d concede and say yes you’re spot on… We would benefit massively from having another Cazorla.

You have some fixation with athleticism which is well covered in our squad, the lack of ability however is blindingly obvious but still here you are saying we need a physical specimen with paceeee. Do you go to Emirates?

  9. Romford Ozil Pele

N5, remember Higuain was at Real Madrid for 7 seasons and joined a couple seasons before Benzema did. He played the most games in 2011-12 which is arguably the only time you could make a case for him being above Benzema in the pecking order.

  10. N5

Eagle do you remember what year Benz joined Madrid? In 08/09 Higz was certainly taking the reigns from Van Horseface and in 09/10 he was top scorer and I’m sure started most if not all games.

I know Benz in the last season was preferred but I wasn’t aware that was regular?

What I do know though is he played 190 games for Madrid and scored 107, that’s not to shabby.

  11. WengerEagle

    Stroller

Fair points but they still know that there’s a fine line between taking advantage of the new revenue deals environment and pushing their luck.

I don’t see Wolfsburg getting £45 million for Draxler, even from a BPL team.

  12. N5

Thanks ROP, you wrote that comment as I was putting mine and you’ve answered why I was mistaken. It’s certainly early Higz I’m thinking about then.

  13. salparadisenyc

“I don’t see Wolfsburg getting £45 million for Draxler, even from a BPL team.”

In this market… I do. Incredible the ridiculous fees being bandied about.

  14. Marko

Bottom line is Turan would instantly upgrade our RW spot and for relative peanuts in this window

Even though he’s never played that position and as you admitted he barely scores or assists. He’d upgrade our bench sure

  15. N5

“Even though he’s never played that position and as you admitted he barely scores or assists. He’d upgrade our bench sure”

Ha ha, the sarcasm is strong with this one. GOOOOOOOODDD GOOOOOOOOOOD

  16. raptora

If Troy Deeney is worth > £30m and Sadio Mane is £34m you start to ask yourself what is this world you’re living in. That makes Giroud atleast £40m and Draxler £50m.

  17. champagne charlie

    Marko

“Charlie that’s absurd. Then why sign him”

I’ve stated about 6 times he’s a wide playmaker so why are you making things up? Yes he isn’t a double digit assist/goals player, but if you can’t appreciate how he benefits the efficiency of the team what can I tell you. Go have a look at Iniesta’s stats then come back and let me know why he’s a player that many consider one of the best EVER. Turan functions in the same way Iniesta does by facilitating the game for the benefit of others.

    WE
Yes it’s easy for a player to gain 20mil in a year. You seriously think you’re getting draxler for 30mil this window with Michy going for 33mil? Renato Sanchez for 30mil?

This summer is post tournament premiums, flooded English wealth, Chinese investment and you think Draxler after the season he had and Euros he had is going for a 5mil bump on last years price? OK

  18. Marko

Also to be fair to he’s kind of tailor made for Italy. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the madman at Napoli went for Icardi after selling Higuain. My question then would be if we brought in another forward or just rolled the dice on just effectively having Higuain as a striker. I mean I really want Walcott gone no matter what this summer. Maybe 19 year old Gabigol for 10-15 million as back up?

  19. N1GOONER

No chance De Laurentis will sell us Higuain.

We’ve had the best no.10 in Europe for the last 3 (soon to be 4) years and are playing with a literal donkey up front as first choice striker

  20. Emiratesstroller

    WE

Draxler is a young player with considerable potential. He is 22 and probably worth 10% less than Ozil when we bought him three years ago and he cost over
    £40 million then.

Also Wolfsburg are possibly the second wealthiest club in Germany factoring
in their financial backing. They do not need the money.

  21. Romford Ozil Pele

Marko, Gabigol used Arsenal to get a new contract. Release clause is now over £30m.

Yeah tbh if Mane is going for £34m then it’s not a surprise if Draxler goes for £45m. With the pound depreciating it’s not that much more in euros tbh.

I don’t get the hate so many Arsenal fans have towards Gibbs. For me the d00d is okay with playing the second string, isn’t as annoying lad who thinks he’s Maradona reincarnated as Walcott and Wilshere are, and in the several games he started, and the many games he was used as a late sub to protect the score, he showed desire and fight. He isn’t a bad sub to Nacho, come on. Not nearly a priority player to sell. Would say left back is one of the positions we have quality in. Cannot say that for some of the other positions. I just don’t see why the hate towards him. Is it cause he looks like Feo too much?!

The issue with gibbs is he had a lot to live up to.
Winterburn, Van Bronckhorst, Silvinho, Cole, Clichy.

    Santos..

    and now Monreal.

So many a good LB during the Wenger era. Gibbs has played many many UCL games. He has played a decent amount of International football. Hes what 26. 27 this Sept. The prime of his career.
Happy to sit on the bench? Look at bellerin. Probably barcas only serious target. Top 3 Full backs in the league. Then look at Gibbs. Happy to be a sub. Whats potential without drive & ambition?

He is unfortunately just another failed wenger project. I mean after all the experience he has had. When he plays. He still doesn’t seem to know when to stay, when to go, how to cross, and he has zero leadership qualities. He still plays like hes 19. He’s a grown man with bags of experience for crying out loud.

He was one of those, ‘lots of potential’ players.
I’d argue You are who you are..
There’s not some alternate universe where Gibbs Jack Feo ect. Have a different set of circumstances where they become WC world beaters.

Even when Jacks fit. What does he do that proves he he’s WC without the injuries? Yeah sure he is ‘neat & tidy’. Sure he has a touch more technique than your average English player.

    So what?

I’d say Ramsey Fit vs. Wilshere fit. Ramsey wins. He has more overall. Neat & Tidy is just a symptom of Wengerball. Doesn’t achieve anything. Just looks nice.

Gibbs ect. He and they have had every opportunity to become WC. They didn’t, because they couldn’t.

  23. WengerEagle

    Charlie

You clearly didn’t follow Cazorla in his career before Arsenal, for Villarreal he played a wide midfield role. Was a CAM for a season at Malaga and in his first season for us.

‘and a free role for Turkey again is piss poor evidence given in that free role he always operates from out wide coming inside.’

Lol no he doesn’t, where are you getting this from? Calhanoglu is the player that operates as the wide playmaker for Turkey, Turan spends the majority of his time floating around the centre of the final third which is why he scores more goals for Turkey.

‘Bottom line is Turan would instantly upgrade our RW spot and for relative peanuts in this window’

Is £30 million peanuts now? You were saying that Draxler would be a rip off in comparison for £45 million, he’s 6 years younger. Turan wouldn’t improve our RW because he doesn’t offer a threat in behind, Sanchez loves to come deep and get involved in the build up play so that would leave our CF isolated up front. Doesn’t matter what attributes Sanchez has, that’s the kind of player that he is.

‘We would benefit massively from having another Cazorla.’

Sure would be nice having 2 but for £30 million at the expense of a wide midfielder that actually scores goals?

‘You have some fixation with athleticism which is well covered in our squad, the lack of ability however is blindingly obvious but still here you are saying we need a physical specimen with paceeee. ‘

This is where you’re so wrong, all of our ‘dynamic’ and athletically ‘gifted’ players are totally rubbish footballers, Walcott, Oxlade, Welbeck (to a lesser extent), Gnabry, etc.

They should all be sold, which leaves us with a lack of athletically gifted players.

It’s a huge part of the game that you are simply ignoring which I find baffling.

Look at Real Madrid, they have two of the most outstanding athletes that the game has ever seen in Ronaldo and Bale, Benzema is also a world class athlete, all over 6 foot, fast, powerful AND good footballers.

Barcelona have two of the best dribblers in Messi and Neymar that are absolutely rapid even if they aren’t particularly strong (pound for pound Messi is).

Bayern Munich are stacked with incredible athletes, all of the best teams in the world are which is why it’s so weird that you insist on a bunch of technically gifted midgets that can’t run.

    The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

    ‘Do you go to Emirates?’

    Nope, live in Ireland.

  24. Marko

Iniesta assists and scores. Arda Turan doesn’t really anymore. I was actually a big fan of his at Atletico him and Koke were fantastic together but now he’s a complete waste. Why you’d advocate signing him and not someone like Hakan Calanaglu (sp?) Is mind boggling

  25. Leedsgunner

Giroud the £40m+ striker??? … or in other words near the price we paid for Özil. Just think about that. The market is utterly insane.

By that reckoning Özil must be worth £70m+ easy.

  26. WengerEagle

    Stroller

Yeah tbf Wolfsburg are minted, they also got a ridiculous fee for De Bruyne last summer.

He was a lot more impressive in 2014/15 in the Bundesliga than Draxler was last season mind.

  27. freddylekgunner

You guys are still speculating the striker Arsenal will buy while Wenger is waiting for Akpom and Sanogoal to start scoring in pre-season friendlies and another excuse of not buying a new striker

  28. Marko

Wolfsburg might be loaded but that matters little they ain’t challenging for shit and other clubs are considered bigger draws in Germany. Unsurprising Schurrle and Draxler are being linked with moves away

  29. Joe

Sorry if I’m beating an old horse here. Been busy last few days

But was there any discussion over Thierry quitting arsenal after being given an ultimatum by wenger?

    Sky sports or Arsenal?

  30. WengerEagle

    Romford

Yeah Hulk is the 3rd highest paid player in the world and Pelle is a top 5.

Funnily enough a lot of players that they have spent huge on have flopped, Teixeira has been shit as has Jackson Martinez and Ramires.

  31. Romford Ozil Pele

Joe, read my stuff on the previous page. They haven’t fallen out. Henry will still be working st Arsenal and taking some sessions, just not in a full-time capacity as Wenger doesn’t think he can balance a full-time U18s role with his sky job. Tony Adams is taking over full time.

  32. Joe

    WE

I agree. Draxler at 45 is much better value than Turan at 30.

And to be fair. Arsenal have to pay over the odds. We are getting left behind. Wenger has to make a statement. Not to fans, but to players like ozil and Sanchez.

He doesn’t care about the fans. They did that signing with xhaka at ST renewal time

  33. Romford Ozil Pele

Joe, give me £4m a year to talk shit about football weekly and I’d give up coaching too mate. You know how many footballers currently playing don’t make that kind of money?

  34. Redtruth

Draxler doesn’t score many goals but that can change.
I was the FIRST to bang Draxler’s drum (i said drum not bum) 4 years ago so it’s nice many are falling in line with my thinking….
For the unbelievers go check my posts from 4 years ago .. .lol

  35. WengerEagle

THAT Robson-Kanu goal may well have earned him a move to China on a £5 million a year salary if Sky are anything to go by. He was released by Reading ffs.

Mental what an international tournament can do for a player.

  36. Joe

    WE

    Look
What the euro’s have done to people’s opinions of giroud and Ramsey even after watching them be bang average for us for seasons

  37. champagne charlie

    WE

Clearly did follow him, but again he wasn’t getting in the team centrally because they had better players at that stage of his career, plus he got a nasty injury.

You didn’t read what I said about him playing for Turkey, yes he has a free role.. but he drifts wide because that’s his natural area of involvement in the game and where he starts most of his probing before coming central.

I’m not ignoring speed and athleticism, I’m saying you’re overstating it given the ability trumps athleticism 99% of the time and we’ve done nothing but recruit athletes with no ability of late. Good of you to use Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale as examples, we should just go out and get a team full of those types… should be dead easy to achieve.

“world are which is why it’s so weird that you insist on a bunch of technically gifted midgets that can’t run.”

This is the shit I find irritating on blogs like this. I’ve never championed this at any point in time, you’re making it up to serve your argument. I challenged criticisms against Turan for his speed and athleticism, saying his ability renders that argument redundant. We have a mix of athletic players in the squad but we miss players of genuine ability hence my points re:Turan. If you’re going to go back and forth with me on a subject don’t twist what i say and suggest some other nonsense as a result, it’s pathetic.

To be crystal clear one last time… Turan at the figures quotes (23mil, not 30 like you’re talking) would be shrewd in this market as it would leave us with powder to make another signing of note. He’s better than any current RW player we have and would go a long way to upping the quality of our collective game which has been shoddy at best lately. All in all my opinion has come in the face of the derision by some fans on here at a player barca deemed good enough for their midfield.. hilarious some suggest we have plenty better. Standard silly season

  38. kc

Absolutely hilarious that a has been past it manager is telling Football Legends how to go about their business. If you know how to win then please show us Arsene. What a worthless man he’s become.

  39. raptora

Reading a Sky article how we are the favorites of the bookies to sign Lukaku, Mahrez, Higuain, Lacazette and second favorites to sign Aubameyang. It’s laughable (and sad) how everyone thinks we need to, and will, splash the cash but our fans. Maybe we know something the bookies don’t?

  40. WengerEagle

    Charlie

I’ll get to the rest of your comment in a little bit but first of all, who are these ‘mix of athletic players’ that we have in the squad?

Because if they include any of the following: Oxlade, Walcott, Welbeck (out injured for ages), Gnabry, Iwobi, Campbell- don’t make me laugh.

  41. naijagunner

I don’t see how offering someone a full time job is pushing him out of the club.

The issue is simple…sought out your priorities ..coaching or punditry.

  42. Marko

To be fair it’s speaks poorly on Wenger the fact that over the years he’s completely overlooked players like Pires, Henry, Bergkamp and Vieira among others doing work for the club. Adams has only recently come in. As Dixon or Keown ever been offered a gig? Edu? Gilberto is working for Panathanikos but why? Overmars at Ajax. Van Bronkhorst at Fayenoord

  43. kc

Amazing how average premier league players can be made to look like world beaters against below average competition. The Euros were terrible. To judge anyone from that shit show would be pointless.

  44. Joe

The issue is simple…sought out your priorities ..coaching or punditry.

Wish wenger would follow that advice.

  45. Joe

Imagine if you could actually bet against all the players coming that the bookies or press say we are favourites to sign.

  46. Marko

Look it’s hard to know how good Arteta will become so there’s no reason to be upset with him leaving he was hardly a club legend. But Vieira Henry and others? They should not be doing that kind of work at other clubs imo. But I guess Wenger doesn’t want to upset the Apple cart

  47. champagne charlie

    WE

Of our first 11 Bellerin, Kos, Gab, Xhaka, Ramsey, Alexis, Giroud. All Physically capable be it quick or strong given the relative tasks.

Athleticism is easy to contrive depending on your idea of it, given how you’ve badgered on about pace I’m certain some of these won’t measure up for you despite all having strong physical attributes.

  48. kc

How come Wenger gets to do both then? Because he won something of consequence 20 years ago?! What a joke. Just like this “football” club. I wonder how many new fans we’ve lost in the past two decades. We certainly can’t be making new ones atm other than family. The attractive style is long gone, and so are the meaningful trophies. Money is what we have, so if you’re a fan of money this is your club. Disgraceful.

  49. champagne charlie

    Marko

You don’t have a clue about Turan, we’ve established this already so stick to subjects you allegedly know something about. Football economics is another one you should probably cross off the list given your hilarious Wolfsburg comments…

  50. WengerEagle

    Charlie

‘Clearly did follow him, but again he wasn’t getting in the team centrally because they had better players at that stage of his career, plus he got a nasty injury.’

So you’re now admitting that he did in fact not play centrally? Because now you’re just making excuses for the fact that he didn’t. Whatever the circumstances, he didn’t play centrally for Villarreal.

‘You didn’t read what I said about him playing for Turkey, yes he has a free role.. but he drifts wide because that’s his natural area of involvement in the game and where he starts most of his probing before coming central.’

Of course he drifts wide, so does basically every other CAM. Ozil does it for us and Germany, James does it for RM and Colombia, De Bruyne does it for Belgium and Man City, etc.

You’re making out that he plays wide and drifts centrally which isn’t the case for Turkey. It was for Atletico.

‘I’m not ignoring speed and athleticism, I’m saying you’re overstating it given the ability trumps athleticism 99% of the time and we’ve done nothing but recruit athletes with no ability of late. ‘

Which is why I’m suggesting that we buy a player that is athletically a threat and can ball, how fucking difficult is that? There’s plenty of them knocking about ffs, I’m not asking for Bale or Ronaldo.

‘we should just go out and get a team full of those types… should be dead easy to achieve.’

Here you go with the hyperbole again, I’m asking for one of these types of forwards, not a team of them.

I’m not twisting what you’re saying, you said that you want players in the mould of Turan rather than athletes. Which would be fine if we didn’t have Xhaka, Ozil and Cazorla but seeing as how we have these 3, where does Turan start? And please don’t say opposite Sanchez for Christ’s sake.

Where are the runners in behind? The players that are going to dovetail with a CF and take on their marker?

As I’ve already said, Sanchez comes very deep to receive the ball, he loves to be heavily involved in the game. Playing off the shoulder and getting behind his markers ala a Muller/Griezmann isn’t at all his game.

‘He’s better than any current RW player we have and would go a long way to upping the quality of our collective game which has been shoddy at best lately. ‘

Wouldn’t be hard, who’s his competition, Wally? Iwobi?

There are players out there who would improve our collective and score goals/be effective in the final third.

His Turkish team-mate Calhanoglu isn’t a bad start.

  51. WengerEagle

‘Of our first 11 Bellerin, Kos, Gab, Xhaka, Ramsey, Alexis, Giroud. ‘

Lol, Giroud athletically gifted? I’m done.

All of these players barring Bellerin, Kos, Gab and Alexis lack pace and in Giroud and Xhaka’s cases, severely lack pace. They play the game at practically walking pace.

3 of those 4 are defenders, how can you not see an issue with that?

And Sanchez is a weird forward, he nearly prefers playing in midfield. Hence he’s wide left and comes deep for the ball.

I’m not obsessed with pace, if I was I’d love Walcott and Oxlade.

  52. champagne charlie

“So you’re now admitting that he did in fact not play centrally?”

No I’m saying he’s always been a central player but wasn’t good enough to play there so was shunted out wide. That suddenly make him a winger? No, makes him a central player that has been put out wide.

“You’re making out that he plays wide and drifts centrally which isn’t the case for Turkey. It was for Atletico”

Dumb to compare a club side to a National side where he’s the star player, they’re always put centrally to affect the game more… despite in Turans case him always being a wide playmaker as you’ve just said he was with Athletico.

“There are players out there who would improve our collective and score goals/be effective in the final third. His Turkish team-mate Calhanoglu isn’t a bad start.”

Suggesting he’s anything near Turan for collective play is actually stunning. You’re a youtube scout based on this assertion. With due respect I’d rather not flog this horse any more today. you’re free to maintain your idea Turan is a central player, I don’t feel all that compelled to convince you.

“I’m not obsessed with pace, if I was I’d love Walcott and Oxlade”…..followed by…”All of these players barring Bellerin, Kos, Gab and Alexis lack pace”

You’re right, none of them have physical gifts at all because some aren’t sprinters. Ozil is quick but I didn’t include him in those with athletic attributes. As i stated you’ve an obsession with pace adn your idea of an athlete is contrived with that in mind.

  54. WengerEagle

    Charlie

Cazorla was a yard or two quicker for Villarreal/Malaga and for us at the start, it’s why he was effective out wide for Villarreal, wasn’t down to him being behind other players in the pecking order for CAM.

Turan is naturally a CAM, he played wide for Atletico but that was more due to Simeone’s system, he doesn’t play with a CAM. Before the emergence of Koke he was the creative hub of the team.

‘Suggesting he’s anything near Turan for collective play is actually stunning. You’re a youtube scout based on this assertion. ‘

You come across as a wanker with comments like this tbh. Turan was shit for Barcelona, make up all of the excuses that you want but he was total turd for them and wasn’t able for the jump in quality. He’s nowhere near as good as you’re making him out to be, quite frankly it’s hilarious and embarrassing. Calhanoglu may have plenty to learn and isn’t at Turan’s level yet in some respects but he destroys him in other facets of the game already, namely in the Final third of the pitch.

He also can actually run which is nice.

‘With due respect I’d rather not flog this horse any more today. you’re free to maintain your idea Turan is a central player, I don’t feel all that compelled to convince you.’

Fair enough Charlie, keep that head of yours firmly lodged up Arda’s ring.

  55. WengerEagle

    Charlie

    Lol Christ, ok.

We don’t have a single forward in our squad that is technically gifted on the ball, can combine well with the midfield and looks to run in behind rather than come deep.

    How’s that?

Again, if I loved a sprinter would I not love Feo/Ox?

  56. champagne charlie

    WE

Says the guy who reduces a player to their numbers in the final third. Iniesta has scored about 12 goals in 5 seasons but he’s one of the best ever. Your football intelligence is clearly lacking and calling me a wanker for saying as such means fuck all. You have the propensity to cling to certain players (Calhanoglu one example) and that makes you sound the biggest numpty going.

I’ll go ahead and take my head out Arda’s arse even though I’ve already stated Draxler and co are superior if just considering a RW on their own. Hilariou. Try a balanced point of view mate it might make you dizzy

  57. N5

Fucking hell Charlie you don’t like being told you’re wrong do you! the other night you were swinging like a mad man because people said Pogba wasn’t as good as Viera and now you’re talking down to people that have a ton of football knowledge because they don’t share your opinion on Turan.

    Jesus man.

  58. champagne charlie

    N5

You sound like a kid mate, being told I’m wrong? wtf are you talking about.. Nobody here is qualified to tell me i’m right or wrong, it’s a place for opinion. How people establish their opinion is there to scrutinize but fuck all else.

“swingin like a madman” over Pogba/Vieira? Again no…it’s called having an opinion. If i say the world is round 50 say it’s flat do you think I’m going to say OK GUYS I’TS FLAT. I watched both play and have an opinion on them, don’t care what others have deduced.

  59. WengerEagle

    Charlie

Bringing up Iniesta again, it’s beyond funny tbh. Turan is a complete joke compared to Iniesta as a baller, he’s absolutely nowhere near as good so it’s ridiculous to even bring him up.

I rate Iniesta as one of the best players of all time and easily a top 5 player in the last generation. I love Isco as a player, doesn’t have great stats, same goes for Draxler, same goes for Modric, Kroos etc.

Just because I don’t rate Arda Turan as highly you’re now simplifying it down to me not rating players without great stats which simply isn’t true.

You may think that you know more about football than anyone else on here, hate to break your heart pal but you don’t.

RE Ardan Turan, you haven’t a fucking clue and it’s amazing the lengths you’re going to in order to defend him.

I don’t claim to know any more than most on here myself but fuck me, you literally can’t let it go when someone dares disagree with you.

  60. N5

Ha ha before I even read your reply I guessed your response. I wish I could prove that but obviously I can’t. That’s the other thing you don’t like isn’t it. Being told you’re being rude.

You’ve told nearly every poster who’s pulled you up on it “you sound like a kid” failing to see the irony in the behaviour or a man who insults whomever disagrees with his comments.

Maybe you should except other have opinions and yours aren’t always the right ones,

No wonder you support Wenger so much. He’s a role model of pigheadedness.

  61. N5

PS I never said your opinion was wrong did I?? making the whole reply from you redundant. I said you don’t like others disagreeing. Argue that point…….which I’m sure you will.

  62. champagne charlie

“Bringing up Iniesta again, it’s beyond funny tbh. Turan is a complete joke compared to Iniesta as a baller, he’s absolutely nowhere near as good so it’s ridiculous to even bring him up.”

And there’s your issue. I’ve already stated TWICE that the comparison is in style. Thanks for letting me know Arda Turan isn’t on Iniesta’s level.

Disagree all you like, back it up with sense and reason though…something you’ve failed to do. Evidence further by the fact you don;t pay attention to what’s being stated and how it’s being stated. You select and distort just like you did with my suggestion ability beats physicality where you turned it into me apparently ‘wanting a team full of technical midgets’. I can debate day and night, you can’t because you don’t read what’s being said or even the context of how it’s being presented.

  63. N5

Guess who’s back! back again! Keysers back, tell your friends, Keysers back, Keysers back, Keysers back…………………..

“Maybe you should except other have opinions and yours aren’t always the right ones,No wonder you support Wenger so much. He’s a role model of pigheadedness.”

These two points of yours say everything. You haven’t a clue about me as a poster of person, so I’ll just let you crack on and aspire to be like you one day

  65. N5

“so I’ll just let you crack on and aspire to be like you one day”

Wow, what a bitchy comment. Champage Keyser tears me a new one with his passive aggressive holier than thou put down!!

  66. WengerEagle

    Charlie

Arda Turan isn’t even an Aldi version Iniesta, it’s just beyond asinine to bring Iniesta into a conversation about Turan even if you insist it’s just based on ‘styles’. Would be like me saying that Walcott is similar to Aubameyang in style.

‘something you’ve failed to do. ‘

Here you go again, it’s in your opinion. I’ve more than successfully proven that Turan isn’t a player that we should be going for, you just don’t agree which is fine, don’t make out like I’ve put a simplistic argument forward when I haven’t. Again, makes you out to be a bit of a bellend.

‘You select and distort just like you did with my suggestion ability beats physicality where you turned it into me apparently ‘wanting a team full of technical midgets’. I can debate day and night, you can’t because you don’t read what’s being said or even the context of how it’s being presented.’

I’m pissing myself here, are you serious? Lol.

This coming from the guy who said this not even a half an hour ago:

‘Good of you to use Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale as examples, we should just go out and get a team full of those types… should be dead easy to achieve.’

Comprehension is far from your strong point, as is self-awareness.

  67. champagne charlie

    WE

That entire comment was full of nonsense, you didn’t successfully prove anything regarding Turan. You kept making assertions about him that simply aren’t true and rejected anything else I said including creating some nonsense comparison to Iniesta and him in terms of quality rather than style which i stressed 3 times already….by my comprehensive abilities are in question? jesus fuck, ok gervais.

I’m dead serious, I gave you examples of such. Sorry if you like to thin your input is well considered and deliberate but you’ve misconstrued what I’ve said a number of times today – and you’re continuing to do so regarding Iniesta.

Again, touting players like Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema, Neymar, and Messi as the types we should be going after is the point of critique. That was your reasoning behind the “athlete” argument which I found ridiculous, as you were seemingly unaware of the fact you touted arguably the top 4 players in the world as ‘types’ we should go for… As if that’s a genuine strategy Arsenal are about to employ.

  68. mysticleaves

so who has the bigger dick? WE or CC?? lol

re Turan. back in his ATM days he thrived on athleticism though, through the wing. people were saying he was o creative but i watched him and didnt understand what people were on about.

firstly, simeone teams always ceded the ball, which would even make it hard to see who was creative or not. they picked their moments in counters and always seemed to score with set pieces (even till date, though they have better ballers now who can control a game better)

at least 80% of athleti players thrive on athleticism.

  69. champagne charlie

    WE

Hold up so that’s me a “wanker” and a “bellend” by virtue of rejecting your basis for an opinion? Solid stuff.

Why you think you’ve any grounds to be dictating or asserting what constitutes such things is a loss to me. You’re certainly the first place prick in my eyes. I reject your reasons for having your opinion, not the opinion itself which you’re more than entitled to have (something I’ve always said on this blog)… but I’m the dickhead for saying you logic is flawed or wrong? Glad that’s straightened out, what a cunt I am.

  70. WengerEagle

    Charlie

Well you’ve achieved a grand total of fook all yourself, your argument extends to ‘he combines and architects the play from deep positions well’. Wtf have you proved with this banal assertion? Lol.

He doesn’t take it past players, doesn’t score goals, he doesn’t dribble well over long distances, he doesn’t particularly create many chances in the final third and he’s lost a yard of pace he had in his early-mid 20’s.

‘Again, touting players like Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema, Neymar, and Messi as the types we should be going after is the point of critique. ‘

    Oi, Rickaaaaay!

This is exactly the shit that I’m talking about, I never suggested that we go after these players. You’re either not terribly literate or you’re deliberately misconstruing what I’m saying (irony eh?). I said that these are the types of players that play for the elite clubs, athletically gifted and excellent on the ball which is WHAT we should be going after. That TYPE. Turan didn’t make an impression at Barcelona for a reason, before you chime in with Cesc/Alexis, at least they were first teamers for a few seasons and left a mark. Turan has been well and truly out of his depth and there’s no amount of skirting around this fact with airy fairy nonsense that you can muster up that will change this.

Type of forward I’d like: Technically gifted, scores goals, reasonably fast and can physically impose himself on defenders, I’m not asking for Ronaldo or Bale.

Mkhitaryan would have fit the bill nicely. As would Draxler.

  71. WengerEagle

    Charlie

It’s the way that you get bitchy mid-argument when someone disagrees with you, like telling me I’m a know nothing youtube scout because I rater Calhanoglu as a player we should chase over Turan.

I couldn’t give a monkeys if someone has a different opinion to me, but I’m not having you talk down to me when you have absolutely no credentials whatsoever for having your opinion taken any more seriously over anyone else’s on here.

If I told you to stick to youtube scouting because you rate Pogba over Vieira you’d explode.

  72. champagne charlie

    WE

His career supports what i’ve said about him as a footballer, stating his style and involvement in the game is based on visual evidence, his lack of numbers I offsetted with the premise his game is in style comparable to Ineista’s where he’s involved much earlier and is not the man to score or provide the actual assist. I stated all this a number of times but your inability or refusal to acknowledge that is why you’re still struggling.

My comprehension is more than fine thanks, I quite literally just said “Again, touting players like Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema, Neymar, and Messi as the types we should be going after is the point of critique.” and you’ve addressed that by saying “these are the types of players that play for the elite clubs, athletically gifted and excellent on the ball which is WHAT we should be going after. That TYPE. “. You’ve failed to acknowledge that those who combine these very attributes are only the very best in the world so it makes our pool of targets consistent of a bout a dozen players who would all cost 40mil plus.

  73. Marko

Charlie next time you give Bamford shit for being a stubborn poster remember this day where you were talking absolute bollox all day with a kind of arrogance that was extremely charming.

  74. champagne charlie

    Marko

Yes mate, because debating over a player is the exact same as telling people to fuck off of a blog etc.

Keep your comments to yourself, you;re only piping up because you were talking nonsense earlier and I called you on it.

  75. Marko

New post Charlie. And you didn’t call me on shit. If anything you showed that if anything you’ve barely seen Arda Turan play actual football

  76. WengerEagle

    Charlie

I get that he’s a visual footballer but what I’m saying is that he’s not as good at what you describe he does as you make out. Technically he’s always been a very gifted player and fantastic on the ball, he’s never had an exceptional range of passing, had never been particularly good at driving through the lines and he lacks that magic in the combinations that separates the top players. There’s a reason that a workmanlike Atletico team has been the pinacle of his career, he simply isn’t Barcelona/Real Madrid class. Never had been. Which is what you are struggling with.

Even with players like Iniesta and Kroos, their class always translates into stats just in dfferent ways. Im not looking at the simplistic goals/assists stats, I’m talking about key passes, accurate long passes per game, accurate crosses per game, through balls, passes from deep and higher up the pitch percentages, dribbles per game, amount of times disposessed, etc.

  77. WengerEagle

    Charlie

That’s where again you’re wrong, I was using these players as examples of the types that make the difference at the highest level. Which is why I named elite players at big teams. If we’re to compete in the UCL at all we need these types, otherwise we’re wasting our time even playing in it.

I mentioned Mkhitaryan and Draxler but you just choose to ignore these. Martial is a player that showcased these attributes last season for United, there are these types of players around Europe to be bought.

Just sums up tor lack of ambition that you’d love a 30 year old Turan that isn’t even the same player he was at Atleti when he wasn’t all that special because we could get him on the cheap.

  78. STV

“When push came to shove, they opted to sell Higuain over Benzema in 2013. The latter is still leading the line.”

And it proved to be a very bad decision especially in LA liga where Higuain was a prolific scorer..
