If Wenger wins the league, what would you think?

How’s it going people?

England were like, so the best, now they’re not… but that little scuz bucket Vardy CANNOT stop scoring. What a monster.

So what have we on the agenda for Arsenal?

Well, we’ve got a pretty exciting weekend ahead of us. A good moment to build on our win against Everton and avenge our FA Cup defeat against Watford.

Interesting thing about all the craziness going off in the social media space against Wenger is that he is STILL in the race. We could easily catch Leicester when you look at their nasty run-in and we could easily surpass Spurs to become champions of the world.

Imagine that?

If Wenger wins the Premier League, what does it mean?

Does it mean he was right all along?

Does it mean that Donald Trump could win the Presidential Race?

WHAT A MESS IT COULD BE.

I’d be fascinated to see what the coverage would look like in a post Wenger win. Would it be the first time in Premier League history a manager so roundly vilified for his decisions has come out on top?

I think so.

Would it change my opinion on whether he should stay? No. The Premier League this year has been a farce… Europe is the benchmark for quality and progress. We’ve regressed year on year domestically… and yet we could still win? If we win the league, it’ll be amazing and extremely odd. Because you can see what’s going on is wrong…. yet it’d be the least wrong approach the Premiership, so it’d kind of be right.

Sometimes you have to make bold decisions. Being best of the worst is very different from being best of the best. I think next season we’ll see a more best of the best league. Are we up for it? Are we going to be prepared under Wenger?

We’ll see. But for now. SHUT UP AND SUPPORT THE LADS.

I don’t care whether Ramsey is fit.Our title challenge unravelled as soon as he started playing CM for us. He has got the attributes but his game is quite messed up. I like Elneny, keeps his game very simple,is a swift passer of the ball. Also looks like he is a quick learner. Coq and Elneny in the middle until we sign a new CM.

Wenger has cost us 2 league titles in last 4 years by messing up our center midfield and gets it right only after the title challenge is over. For a manager who is quite enamored of quality midfielders, his selection of midfielders in recent past has been quite baffling.

  2. Bamford10

“All our CBs will continue to look inconsistent until the mess that is our central midfield is sorted out.”

Yes our central midfield needs improvement — unlike some, we’ve been saying that for some time — but that won’t make Gabriel look all that much better, and it certainly won’t make him look better on the ball. I like the guy, but he is not a top CB and he wasn’t that smart of a signing.

  3. Bamford10

“Arsène Wenger backs Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere to make England squad” – The Guardian

Classic example of how Wenger is interested in 1,001 things, none of which is winning the fucking title.

Wenger thinks this. Wenger thinks that. Wenger opines on this irrelevant topic. Wenger opines on that.

Shut the fuck up, old man, and do your job (for fuck sake).

“Wenger has cost us 2 league titles in last 4 years by messing up our center midfield and gets it right only after the title challenge is over.”

this season he didn’t really mess it up, did he? he had a settled pairing, but lost them both to long term injury.

  5. Bamford10

I will say again that contrary to popular opinion, Wenger will treat a Leicester or Spurs title victory as confirmation of his own philosophy. Yes, that sounds utterly bizarre and backwards, but that is Wenger in a nutshell and he most definitely will.

He will say: ‘You zee? One can win wizzout zee big spending or zee big names.’

    (Cue the tomatoes.)

  6. Wallace

    Bamford

how do you think press conferences work?

do you think it’s Wenger asking himself the questions?

  7. Bamford10

    Wallace

No offense, but do you have an IQ of 40? It isn’t the question I have an issue with. It’s the stupid joke and grin in reply. The man is full of such stupid jokes and grins, and they have nothing to do, ultimately, with the questions being asked. His attitude is completely and totally inappropriate, but it perfectly reflects what is wrong about Arsene Wenger and what is wrong at Arsenal Football Club.

  8. ADKB

Bamford: “I will say again that contrary to popular opinion, Wenger will treat a Leicester or Spurs title victory as confirmation of his own philosophy.”

That’ll be like shooting yourself in the foot if he makes that observation publicly. He’s been trying this low-budget (which isn’t 100% true as we’ve got a very high wage bill) philosophy and has consistently failed for over 10 years.

Along comes Leicester who barely survived relegation battle last season and now on the brink of winning the EPL.

  9. Up 4 grabs now

    Wallace,

I’m pretty sure Wenger not signing any cover or a player that improved our midfield is down to him.

We all knew artetas legs went 2 years ago, we all knew rosicky was injury prone(loved the guy but was never fit)

We all knew coquelin was beasted and would break down, we all knew santi needs rotating or he would burn out.
We all knew it, the only person that didn’t was Arsene!

  10. Bamford10

    Wallace

And if you are referring to his tendency to opine on every topic under the sun, sorry, but this cannot be explained away by the questions he is asked in press conferences. Wenger has more opinions about things other than his side and squad than any manager in football.

As I say, he needs to shut the fuck up and compete for a title. Alas, we all know he is incapable of this.

  11. Up 4 grabs now

I’m sill amazed that there isn’t one journalist at these press conferences that doesn’t call him out.
Are the questions vetted before hand?

They can’t all be banned like Ferguson used to do.
I can’t believe know one has the guts to really grill him.

  12. vicky

    Wallace

During the summer transfer window, almost every poster on LG was crying out for a DM signing. Most would have been happy with Cech and a new DM/DM cum CM. How could he not foresee a massive problem on our hands in the face of an injury to either Santi/Coq ? He laid the ground for a mess up by not buying a midfielder. If Elneny was in his plans what’s the point in waiting till January ? His exploits in the CL was known to Wenger I would imagine even in May- June. Why did he wait for another 6 months. In summer he could have had a proper bed in time as well.

  13. Up 4 grabs now

The Euros start a few weeks after the end of the season.

We need a centre half, central midfielder, right attacking midfielder, and striker.

If we sign players early, great but when does that happen.
We need to tie down about 6 current players to new contracts otherwise we have a number of players going into the season with only 2 years left on there deals.
It looks like another typical Arsene last minute trolley dash written all over it.

  14. vicky

    ADKB

Quite bored of commenting on the same problems that inflict us season after season. I thought even Wenger wouldn’t botch up this year’s title challenge and we would win it simply because there was no other contender. Feel too deflated to comment often.

  15. Wallace

    Up4grabs

“I’m pretty sure Wenger not signing any cover or a player that improved our midfield is down to him.”

that wasn’t the point i was arguing. vicky was criticising Wenger for messing up the midfield. he didn’t mess it up, he lost his two starting CMs to long term injury. he might not have found a new solution as quickly as he should have, but he knew what his best CM pairing was before injury struck.

  16. vicky

    Wallace

If you are on the semantics of messing up,he still got it wrong by not rotating either Santi or Coq before they got injured.I believe they played every single PL game before they got injured.

  17. Paulinho

Coquelin – Cazorla was shit anyway.

Like dwarf Siamese twins, covering up for each other’s flaws, getting getting completely found against any decent side.

  18. Up 4 grabs now

Wallace that’s what I’m saying. Where was the cover for coquelin and santi?
He knew Wilshire wasn’t going to be back before xmas. Our history of injuries is the same every year, and wasn’t going to change.
He knew arteta wasn’t good enough and nothing more than a figurehead captain.
He knew rosicky was a long term injury.
There’s no planning as usual that’s my point.

  19. Wallace

    vicky

“During the summer transfer window, almost every poster on LG was crying out for a DM signing. Most would have been happy with Cech and a new DM/DM cum CM. ”

I went over this with Cesc Appeal last night. do you really think Morgan Schneiderlin was the missing piece for us this year?

re Elneny – as with Gabriel at Villarreal last year, he improved dramatically in the early months of the season. not saying we shouldn’t have signed a midfielder in the summer, but it was Elneny’s form at the beginning of this season that persuaded Wenger to buy him. prior to that he was just somebody we were scouting.

  20. vicky

Coq Santi pairing wasn’t top class but wasn’t shit either. Somewhere in between. Given the poor quality of the league this season, I think we would have won the league with them or at least wouldn’t be out of it with still 7 games to go.

  21. AW is Christine Lagarde In Drag

That’s exactly what we need Up 4 grabs now.

We should be looking at players of the calibre of Sergio Ramos, Granit Xhaka or Toni Kroos, Mario Gotze or Sofiane Feghouli, Alex Lacazette or Alvaro Morata.

I would take Martin Caceres or, at a push, Nicolas M’koulou (reminds me of a young Kolo Toure), Bender, Javier Martinez (ho ho), Payet or Mahrez or Aubameyang.

Think we could also do with another attacking midfielder – Jorginho, Sergio Roberto or Henrikh Mkhitaryan are good shouts. Knowing Wenger though, we probably won’t buy anyone, as the squad’s good enough to win everything for the next 5 years, eh Wallace!

  22. Paulinho

“Coq Santi pairing wasn’t top class but wasn’t shit either. ”

They were shit against any midfield with a pulse for the past season and a half.

They both had some good individual games/moments, but as a partnership, in terms of being compact and being to able to impose themselves on top opposition lying deep and higher up the pitch, they were crap.

Literally half an hour of good play against Man United is all they put together this season, yet that’s seen as some week in week out occurence.

  23. vicky

    Wallace

I have always thought Morgan was an okay player to go for. I wasn’t going gaga over him but given his PL experience he wouldn’t be a bad buy. Miles better than Flameta at least. I really had a hard on for Samper though. Still think he would turn out to be a quality player.

  24. Up 4 grabs now

Wallace, if we had Schneiderlin we could have rotated coquelin and santi, which would mean less chance of burn out or injury.
    Which is exactly what happened.
Even if it wasn’t schneiderlin, the fact we signed no one is negligence. Was there no other midfielders out there across the whole world?

  25. Wallace

    Paulinho

“Coquelin – Cazorla was shit anyway.”

“In the 30 league games Cazorla and Coquelin have started together, Arsenal have taken 64 points. Discounting the game at West Bromwich Albion when Coquelin was forced off after 13 minutes, Arsenal have taken 23 points this season from the 11 games they started with Coquelin and Cazorla together (2.09 points per game). In the other 19, they have taken 32 (1.68 points per game).”

Come on, we all know the euros will be the excuse why we didn’t buy or act quickly enough in the window.

Then it will be the inflated prices because of the euros.

We are finished. We are just mediocrity in abundance under Wenger. That’s are level.

re rotating your best players –

    so far this season(31 games)…

    harry kane – played 31
    alderweireld – played 31
    eric dier – played 30
    dele alli – played 29
    eriksen – played 28
    lamela – played 28

not much rotation going on there.

  28. AW is Christine Lagarde In Drag

    Lol R+W.

Vicky – Samper looks a fantastic prospect. Wasn’t he supposed to have a £10m buy-out clause in his contract? Incredible if true.

  29. vicky

    Wallace

All those 6 Tottenham players you listed are young, well under 30, most of them early 20’s.

Contrast them with Santi, Arteta,Flamini,Rosicky,Koscielney and Theo – our injury prone players. All either nearing 30 or above.

  30. Paulinho

Wow, we won a lot of games when it didn’t matter again. Which, as we’ve seen, as absolutely nothing to do with personnel, and is completely down to the bottling cycles of Wenger’s management.

Funny how when we were still in with a shout of the league last year, they completely flopped at White Hart Lane. Of course, when the league was completely out of reach, we (and that ridiculously overrated combo in midfield) start winning again.

  31. AW is Christine Lagarde In Drag

“Come on, we all know the euros will be the excuse why we didn’t buy or act quickly enough in the window.

Yep, Wenger’s got his ready-made excuses lined up again. Same ones he uses every 2 years…

  32. Up 4 grabs now

    Wallace
The spuds like most teams don’t seem to have the injury prone players that we have.
Also nearly all those players are young and haven’t been beasted the last few season.

Our midfielders barring coquelin are all 30 plus and have been redzoned for the last few seasons.

    Arteta, rosicky,flamini,santi. All injury prone.
Throw in Wilshire and Ramsey who have all been long term crocks or have missed large chunks of the season and do you really think we had a chance of keeping them fit enough to play 29-31 games?

  33. loyika

Watford tomorrow. Same line up as at Everton ne thinks.

Hope for an early goal (hope Gomez is their goalie) and then give the others a run out. Goid thing we are playing befor the Spuds. Can see a loss (or at best a draw agaisnt Pool) as Kloppy will be hurting from their loss against The Saints and will not take 2 losses on the bounce (esp as they play at Anfield)

Saints vs The Foxes!? Depends on which Mane or Pelle decides to show up (and if Shane Long is fit) should be a rollocking game though knowing how both teams play.

  34. Relieable Sauce

Wallace thought Shweinstieger or Ki were a good shout to improve our midfield, so it seems a bit rich calling people out on MS. Deflection, deflection, deflection.

Seems to be saying as well, the happy accident that was Caz and Coq is some dynamic title winning pairing…or is he??
Certainly wasnt planned and it certainly isnt going to cut the mustard over a full season, or in the CL.

Get the feeling Wallace might be warming to a bit more squad rotation…

There’s a pretty good “open letter” to AW in today’s Daily Mirror (the …erm intelligent tabloid). Although it might be a bit tame for some:

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/open-letter-arsene-wenger-arsenal-7664730

    Hope the link works.

Personally, I would sell Walcott, Wilshere and the Ox and bring in top qualideeee.

If we want Wenger out we need more pressure on him at the ground and in the media. However, to really turn the screw we need to contact the Club directly and threaten to boycott games unless there is significant change. I would also urge fans to threaten to boycott the Club’s sponsors.

Also, write to the sponsors directly and tell them you are boycotting their products and services if they continue to associate themselves with Arsenal while Wenger (and to some extent Kroenke) is still there.

It would at least make life uncomfortable for those at the Club responsible for the situation we find ourselves in.

    Just not sure which applies?

  39. AW is Christine Lagarde In Drag

    Jacko

Well, it used to be a football club…

The idea of a sporting organisation, as opposed to a business, is that it reinvests the money it gets from its fans (not customers) into the team – mainly on strengthening the squad (not improving wages).

It does this to chase glory.

It should not be about hoarding cash or keeping your powder dry because you think you can’t compete – especially when you have moved to a new stadium and have promised fans who pay the highest priced season tickets in the world that we would be seriously competing with the likes of Bayern and Barca by now.

Unfortunately, Kroenke doesn’t get this and Wenger seems too scared to put it into practice.

  40. Louis Almeida

It has been a whirlwind fortnight for Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi, who scored his first senior goal against Everton at Goodison Park in a 2-0 victory on March 19.

The 19-year-old also committed his future to Nigeria during the international break by making two substitute appearances as the Super Eagles fell to Egypt in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

Iwobi will now be hoping for a place in the Arsenal starting XI to face Watford at the Emirates having started three of the Gunners’ last four games.

And the teenager has credited his rise to the first team to watching Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil in action and learning from the Germany star.

“Where as I’m in the same position as him, I’m learning each day how to play, how he gets a lot of space and assists his goals and gets goals,” Iwobi told Goal.

“Each day at training he’s helping me and I’m learning from him just by watching him.”

Iwobi also wants to rekindle his impressive partnership with striker Danny Welbeck.

“I just have to hope the boss gives me another chance, we’ll see how it goes,” Iwobi told Goal during the international break.

“But yeah, [Danny and I] are forming a good bond and he’s helping me. We’re good friends off the pitch as well so it’s good to be on the pitch with him.”

Expect Wenger to fit in Wilshere at all costs to help him make the England Euro squad.
It’s the Wilshere show from henceforth.

If Wenger wins league, it will mean that he’s Mr Magoo. Stumbling and bumbling through life while coming up roses.

  43. Up 4 grabs now

Wilshire can have 15 minutes as a sub in the next 7-8 games unless we have an injury crisis.
He has to earn his place back not just walk straight back in.
That goes for Ramsey as well.

  44. izzo

Wenger talking about having a list of players. You can bet Pedro’s next post will be about how we should get off Wenger’s back because he has a list. He has a list alright…, a list of players he will dither over until transfer deadline day when it’s too late.

  45. Ughelligunner

Well, Joe and bamford always saying our FA cup means nothing because wigan and Portsmouth won it. So does it mean if leceister or totenham win the league, it becomes shit as from next year, or only when arsenal manage to fluke it? They never answered this question put up by another blogger. I wonder why?

  46. Ughelligunner

Wallace, i always miss your post. I saw you handled them all well last night, even though they were throwing around their usual insults.

By the way, i agree with you, the striking 3 has let us down much more than the midfield or defence. AOBS always looking for a way of making, the absence of a sneiderlin signing, who by the way hasn’t helped man utd and is currently dropped for France, as a reason for our failure. So poor of them.
If it aren’t signings, it is injuries or tacticaless, demented, stingy wenger. I wonder why the other 16 teams never surpass him. He has even surpassed the biggest clubs in Man utd and chelsea on more than 3 occasions howbeit spending little or nothing as in this case.

  47. Ughelligunner

Wait, Wenger has a list? And we have an Owner and Ceo who cant take the list off the stubborn ditterer like the AOBS always say and sign us a messi with the 200m in the bank? Must wenger be the buyer and manager? Well i know AOBs have nothing but the usual repetitive words.

  48. AW is Christine Lagarde In Drag

I’ve got a list of all the things I’m gonna buy this summer too Izzo:

    superyacht,

    Bugatti Veyron,

    Caribbean island,

    Arsenal Football Club.

It’s about as realistic as whatever AKB’S think is on AW’s.

  49. Ughelligunner

Didn’t know wenger makes a list? Thought he just sleeps and wakes up, call the player, look for a cheap way out and goes another way.

We have a list? We have a Ceo and an Owner who should be buying the top players in that list. Oh wait, wenger has to go to the market himself, we even have to wait for him if he goes on a summer holiday before we tie a deal.

  50. Ughelligunner

Just because wenger comes to praise his players, these AObs think he doesn’t want a messi, ronaldo or neymer. What ignorantos.

Well, he gave them a keeper, they said a dm (kondogbia, sneiderlin) well, now they say is a striker..i agree. But i think, they don’t know what they want, and even though we are first today, they would still say we are first because the big teams collapsed. Now we are third, they say, how come we aren’t first when the big boys are not there to stop us… What do you all want? Wenger isn’t leaving, try something else to do or support until then.

Wenger cant win, either ways. Hate has blinded their cause.

  51. AW is Christine Lagarde In Drag

Ok Uggo, if Joe or Bamford couldn’t be bothered to answer your ridiculous question (don’t blame them to be honest) I will have a bash.

The reason why it isn’t as big an achievement to win the FA Cup compared to the Premier League is because you only have to win 6 games. With the League you have to win at least 20-odd games and show consistency throughout a 9-month slog throughout a season.

This is why it is much more valuable and the kudos is greater if you become Champions.

It is also why clubs like Man City will field their reserves in the Cup (like against Chelsea recently) and clubs battling relegation/going for promotion will do the same (such as Hull against us).

    Do you see?

And by the way, Wallace got taken to the cleaners again last night, as usual.

  52. AW is Christine Lagarde In Drag

    “What ignorantos.”

    Ignorantos?! Brilliant!

“Well, he gave them a keeper, they said a dm (kondogbia, sneiderlin) well, now they say is a striker..i agree. But i think, they don’t know what they want,”

Nope, Uggo, this one doesn’t fly. Try again.
Most fans who assessed our squad last summer said we needed a goalkeeper, a centre-half, a defensive midfielder, a wide player and a striker. Commenters do know what they want (and what the team needs) but are just bemused because Wenger only addresses one postition every other transfer window. This means that the same problems persist while others rectify the weaknesses in their squads, leaving us treading water.

“even though we are first today, they would still say we are first because the big teams collapsed. Now we are third, they say, how come we aren’t first when the big boys are not there to stop us… ”

Erm, look at our points tally compared to what previous champions have amassed at this stage of the season and then tell me that, if we were top, it wouldn’t be because other teams have collapsed. The only reason why this mental season has panned out the way it has, with Leicester leading the table with a few games to go, is because Chelsea players deliberately played shit to get their tit of a manager sacked, which they achieved, Man City players probably did the same thing to some extent, or at least failed to gel, which won’t happen too often in the future and Man Utd are in transition and have made some dodgy signings. So, with that in mind, we should have been in the perfect position to capitalise on that. The fact that we are not says a lot about our set-up.

  53. AW is Christine Lagarde In Drag

Hate has not really blinded our cause, Uggo, I’m afraid that your affection for Wenger has blinded yours.

Loving eyes can never see – as Percy Sledge once sang…

    … “when a man loves a Wenger…
Can’t keep his mind on nothin’ else…

… “when he is playing him for a fool
He’s the last one to know
    Loving eyes can never see…”

  54. loyika

    So @ AW?

Has the FAC format changed? Has it not always been that number of games? So we should not count FACs among our haul of trophies then? So Citeh players celebrating the League cup (and fans as well) sgould be called a disgrace then.

I know the league is a bigger prize but demeaning the FACs because Arsenal won it is just silly. We strive for more but should not insult the success we have as it all adds up to the history of the club, they are Arsenal’s FACs not Arsene’s FACs (as some of you keep forgetting)
