Heavy rotation rewarded with a controlled Arsenal victory

So, that was, well, pretty good.

I mean, yeah. Next round. No real drama. Some new 2016 faces. Some good performances. Some ok performances.

But qualification.

The biggest disappointment from the day had to be the fans. Half the stadium empty by 90th minute. Very flat as well. I get it though, I’ve been in that zone. Too many games in too short a time. You’re spoilt and it’s hard to motivate yourself to be THE GREATEST FAN OF ALL TIME every week.

The starting line-up was quite interesting and certainly merited more fan enthusiasm. Coquelin, Iwobi and Elneny in the middle. Sanchez, Giroud and Chambo in the front line. Chambers, Gibbs and Gabriel new in the backline. Ospina in goal.

They played pretty well considering the change as well. Iwobi continued where he left off. Tight control, working space well, composed. I thought Coquelin looked relatively solid bar the strange collapse in the build up to their goal. Elneny did a good job as well. Unspectacular, but very steady. Not a destroyer, that’s for sure. Loves a long shot, Wenger will have that beaten out of him in no time.

We opened the scoring in odd fashion, Iwobi passed to Sanchez on the edge of the area, the Chilean poked it to Chambers… our new right back side footed a shot into the top corner. Straight from the book of Bergkamp!

We let Burnley back in though. We didn’t clear on the edge of the box, Vokes was fed a peach of a cross which he finished with a bullet header.

We picked up in the second half, a lovely counter attack, Iwobi fed Chamberlain out wide, he crossed dangerously and Sanchez rifled into the top corner. He doesn’t miss from there.

I can’t not praise Ospina for making some tidy saves. Our backline was pretty shaky all day and he was called upon to be decisive a few times and he delivered.

I also thought it was a positive day for Chamberlain. He landed an assist and he was far more productive than he usually is.

Still not sure about Chambers as our right back. He’s so green. He’d cost us in big games and he’d be top of your ‘here’s how we get at them’ list if you were an opposing manager.

Two final things. Am I the only one who shouts ‘DISGRACE’ when I hear Theo is our longest serving player? I am? Ok.

I know that am I not the only one who shout ‘HE’S GONNA MISS THIS’ when Theo is through on goal under no pressure. Because that’s what happens every time. Last minute, he has the chance to bury it, he has time to think, he uses that time to think about his favourite sandwich, he blows it.

In big games, against big teams. That is your one chance. Against Barca, he might only get one chance over two legs. That’s why we’re not 2004 elite. Too many players like him in the side who can’t deliver under pressure.

Anyway, we won the game. We’re on for 3 in 3. We picked up no injuries and successfully rotated our squad again.

ONWARDS!

“Only a moron could argue that a manager who is wanted by nearly all of the top teams in the world should choose a poorly funded team to prove something ”

A realist can still be seen as one taking the easy way. Football fans are romanticists, are were you unaware of that?

Answer the question – how far would you go to get rid of Wenger? I’ll make it easy and give you multiple choices.

    i) Finish outside the top 4

    ii) Get relegated

iii) Club goes bankrupt and ceases to exist

‘’Club goes bankrupt and cease to exist’’. LOL. So there you have it guys…. Without Wenger the club ran the risk of involuntary liquidation a long time ago.

The extent to which some of the fans are still brainwashed is beyond words. It’s 2016 for FFS.

Give it some time (ok perhaps A LOT MORE TIME FOR SOME) but you’ll accept just how incompetent and unethical the club has become under the stewardship of Arsene and Kroenke.

I know its asking a lot as its taken 10 years for some to figure out that Theo wouldn’t even be a second division player if it wasn’t for his pace. But trust me… you knuckleheads will eventually learn…and maybe then we can start acting like a proper football club.

  3. Cesc Appeal

A loan for Oxlade to Saints would be pretty great, but as has been said, the fact our squad is so badly managed means we need o hang onto him, even if he is under performing right now.

  4. qna

    Alfie. All wrong as usual.

    Unlimited resources

Wrong. Similar resources to Bayern, Barca and United. Less resources than PSG.

    Best team in the BPL

City are the best (cough) team in an extremely weak BPL where Leicester a recent relegation battler are three points clear in February. City have a terrible way record. They a quite far away from being a great team to take over.

Potentially one of the top 5 best teams in the world

That describes Arsenal. But you prove the point in your own words. He has taken a challenge od taking a team outside the best 5 in the world to try to make them number 1. Its a massive challenge that even you or Underrated dont think he can accomplish. Hardly taking an easy challenge then.

  5. Cesc Appeal

Xhaka to City I think now, rumours in Germany were that Guardiola had his eye on him at Munich as a deep tempo setting distributor.

City’s midfield will get a total rework.

  6. Carts

    Emirates

Welbeck has had knee problems pretty much all of his professional career. He’s also had thigh problems too. He played 98 games for Utd but missed 20 games due to knee/muscle injuries. He also missed 4 games at Sunderland due to knee injury.

What do we do when in need of a top goal scorer…sign Welbeck fucking LOL

  7. underrated Coq

For me, Ancellotti is the best there is.

He’s done long-term, he’s done short-term, he’s not choosy in his choice of clubs, he’s not afraid of taking over clubs who may not be guaranteed success and muddy his reputation, doesn’t seek the spotlight, just goes about his job without any drama and keeps delivering.

  8. qna

Rollen: lol If Pep is at City, Mou at UTD and x at Chelsea thats 6 games + potentialy few cup games lost every season

And Koemen at So’ton and Poch at Spurs thats another 10 points dropped from 12.

  9. qna

Underrated: For me, Ancellotti is the best there is.

Ancellotti can be respected as he takes challenges but Pep doesnt. Your such a clown.

    Ancellotti Teams managed
    1995–1996 Reggiana
    1996–1998 Parma
    1999–2001 Juventus
    2001–2009 Milan
    2009–2011 Chelsea
    2011–2013 Paris Saint-Germain
    2013–2015 Real Madrid

    I could see Xhaka,

I could definitely see Xhaka and Gundogan as a partnership.

The thing is, he will wipe the floor with Arsene.

He will feel immediate pressure to deliver, and he will buy the players to do that.

Complete opposite of Wenger, who despises the fact that the fans want success, and who will happily allow numerous substandard players to take the piss on high wages.

Toure will be shipped out because he isnt trying hard enough,

City are going to be a real contender for back to back titles after this season.

  11. qna

As far as City’s title charge this season the announcement ia either going to be genius or a massive fail. With KDB out City would have had to rely heavily on Toure to take them home. Toure will know that there is now zero chance of him having a future at City. His manager even said this revently. So how will Toure react. He could play out of his skin to earn his next contract. But if he is going to China or MLS next the opposite is more likely. He will just take a holiday. Have seen it from him before. The feeling to impress Pep will of course have some effect on the team, but that wont last for 15 games.

The worst thing that could happen is if Pep decides to come and watch out game with them on the penultimate match if the season.

  12. #WAHT

I’d take Imbula over Elneny easily.

Also I really rate Xhaka, I’d love us to buy him. If he comes to the prem and it’s not us I’d be sorely disappointed (again) with our inability to seek out this kind of player.

  13. gambon

It really doesnt matter what happens to City.

    Our biggest rival is ourselves.

If City lose every game to the end of the season, we will still bottle it.

If City, Leicester and Spurs all ceased to exist as of this afternoon, we would bottle it and let Man Utd win the PL.

Nothing will change until the regime changes.

We have a board that are almost all in their 70’s, with zero interest in results and no footballing expertise. They dont care about what goes on and probably arent even aware who our next PL game is against.

We have a manager that has no interest in competing, and sees his main loyalty to the players, not the club. This is a manager that would take finishing 4th every season provided he can work the way he wants to and keep a conflict free creche running.

If it takes 90 points to win the PL, Arsenal will get 75, If it takes 80 points Arsenal will get 70, if it takes 60 points, Arsenal would somehow conspire to get 55.

If we just have to avoid being beaten 8-0 going into the last game of the season, we would be down to 10 men and 4-0 down at halftime, with Wenger watching on like a nervous wreck.

“Ancellotti can be respected as he takes challenges but Pep doesnt.”

Let me put it this way: I can see an Ancellotti taking over and working with our current board and owner, not a Guardiola.

Ancellotti did not cower to take over at Stamford Bridge when the job looked like a poisoned chalice, can’t see a Guardiola risk it with the trigger happy Russian.

Ancelloti has shown he’s not afraid to manage long-term if given the vote of confidence. He’s not afraid of the the initial sweetness getting soured and possibly damaging his reputation in the end. Guardiola?

    ” Your such a clown. ”

Nope, I’m an engineering student. What are you? An uneducated, uncivilized numpty? The use of ‘your’ does give some indication I suppose.

  15. vicky

Announcement of Pep’s arrival could derail City’s campaign. Not that the team and the current manager did not know about Pep’s impending arrival but I wonder whether Pelliagrini will be bothered any more or the City players will play for him.

    This is so true.
Only exception is legendary wenger trophy being endangered, then we can go on long undefeated runs which will at the same time sort out the need of buying players in the summer. Best second part of the season trophy, best team of tax year trophy, done well away at stoke trophy etc

  17. vicky

Meanwhile Wenger lets another transfer window pass by without doing anything substantial. The least we needed to do was to add an attacker to our side. How can a supposedly title chasing side not be bothered by having just one decent quality striker in our squad. Welback’s fitness is a major concern and he is not known for his goal scoring prowess anyway. Theo has been utterly useless. It’s annoying how Wenger always leaves us unprepared for a go on the league title.

  18. qna

Underrated: Nope, I’m an engineering student. What are you? An uneducated, uncivilized numpty? The use of ‘your’ does give some indication I suppose.

Lol. Oh no. You sad sack. Feeling a little insecure. Do you think you have impressed us because you got into an Engineering course? Do you really feel superior with that resume and the fact that I use poor grammar. I admit it, I am terrible I always have been, but that doesnt mean that I am uneducated. It just means I rely on spell and grammar checkers.

If I were feeling so insecure and my life was so sad I may even be suckered in to giving you my resume. Though its not hard, I have you beat. I assume most will.

I must admit you have me a bit speechless. That is a little sad my friend. Besides you are on the internet. Why not make something up. Student? LoL.

Well that confirms it then.Arsene last chance of winning the premier league this year

I’ve been saying this. F*** all the excuses and reasons and fairy tales.

We must win it this season. There’s no other option.

Once pep gets his teeth sunk in. Its over for us.. under wenger.

Only a new manager like Carlo would give me hope, that we will compete at least.

  20. M

Those thinking this announcement will derail city’s title charge are really talking out of hope and nothing else. It will rather spur them on to win for their manager than anything else.Think arsene should get his shit together cuz city might just have an added motivation.

  21. VP

Guardiola at city with No FFP!

Maurinho at Utd with No FFP!

    It’s all over folks.

Sorry to break to you guys but well , you know the last 10 years. It’s all been lies. ALL OF IT.

FFP can longer save us, and Wenger sure as hell can’t. There will need to be a major change in the club’s paradigm in the coming years if it stands any chance of competing. But this would require a new owner, new manager and new set of
fans that hold at least an average IQ.

Yep…10 years of struggles and humiliations only to come out to this!

I fail to see how anyone with half a brain cell can feel like the futures bright. There’s more chance of Spurs catching up to us than there is of us catching up with the teams above.Sad times.

“Those thinking this announcement will derail city’s title charge are really talking out of hope and nothing else. ”

    You might have a point…

  23. qna

Pep is not going to stay for 3 seasons, one of which will be to teach and train his players the ways of the Pep and the last season will be disturbed half way through while every one wonders where he goes next. They will probably only get 1 titile.

Dont fool yourselves that title wouldnt have been ours anyway. Not much has changed really. We all jusy have to exercise and eat healthy so we can outlive Wenger.

  24. reality check

And to all the AKBs or.. if you don’t like the term.. To all Wenger supporters.

Don’t you think this is the season where all your faith is rewarded?

Doesn’t Wenger owe it to you, to make good on all his promises?

Love wenger or hate wenger, can’t we all agree. This is the time. No excuses?

  25. vicky

Yeah it’s true the current season is possibly the last chance for us to win the league. City will break the bank for Guardiola. Besides, top players will queue up to sign for City. A top manager, huge salary and prospects of winning big trophies- what else can a player ask for ?

  26. VP

‘’Doesn’t Wenger owe it to you, to make good on all his promises?’’

I don’t think the fans feel as though they are owed anything apart from finishing above spurs every year. No doubt that we’ll cock it up this year but this will all soon be forgotten.

Summer will hit, and we may make a few token gesture signings but nothing more and be told that the we can’t compete with the City’s and Utd’s spending sprees despite having two billionaires on the board.

Winning the league will take out what little resistance there is from the fans about the direction the club’s going and will ensure that we continue in this state of flux for the next decade.

I said this about the FA Cup and will happily repeat likewise for when it comes to winning the Prem. Winning it will do more harm than good in the long term and will guarantee the positions of the status-qou that we see before us for the foreseeable.

  27. underrated Coq

qna, nope, you had mistaken me for a clown. I was just correcting you. Now, why you take so much offense at that I do not know. As for the rest of your comments, perhaps you shouldn’t dish out insults in the first place if you can’t take some yourself.

  28. qna

Underrated. Lol. What zingers did you insult me with. I must have missed that. You should hit the books. You might wanna be able to tell everyone your an actual engineer one day.

  29. Joe

“Those thinking this announcement will derail city’s title charge are really talking out of hope and nothing else. ”

    Haha

The AKBs last hope is that city derail themselves so that we have a chance Because Wenger couldn’t win it on his managerial brilliance alone

  30. Joe

A couple years ago it was our best champ because pellegrini and Moyes had just taken over and Chelsea were in shambles.

    How did that turn out

  31. Joe

    Gambon

You are spot on with the point we would bottle it no matter what.

Only under Wenger could all 18 other teams default would Wenger find a way to lose to villa in a one game playoff

  32. vicky

Joe I am no AKB, have never been one. I have been asking for Wenger’s removal long before you started posting here. So, stop dishing out childish name calling and try to post something meaningful for once.

  33. Joe

Vicky. Did I address you or one of your posts?

And go read a few pages back. I posted a whole page of meaningful posts

    So kindly fuck off

  34. Joe

    Vicky

Remember for stupid you looked a couple weeks back when you fell hook line and sinker for a joke on here

Move on before you get to made to look a fool again

  35. underrated Coq

qna, perhaps you should review your comments when you’ve calmed down a bit.

Why are you getting so worked up because of me telling you the fact that I’m a student? What next? You gonna call me a racist against citizens of other countries when I tell you I’m Indian?

  36. vicky

Joe , Let me make things a bit easier for you

    “vickyFebruary 1, 2016 15:21:21

Anyways, I am in no mood to argue with you. Cheers !!!

  37. qna

Underrated. Lol. How am I worked up in the slightest. Why would I need to calm down. Why would I call you racist because your indian. You make no sense you clown.

  38. Joe

Wasnt addressing yours. Was addressing someone who followed up on yours.

    Regardless.

I stick behind what I wrote.

Hope for other teams derail is the only Chance Wenger has.

To be honest. Most teams have derailed this season and Wenger still couldn’t take advantage.

Also, is Calling someone an AKB name calling now.?

  39. vicky

“is Calling someone an AKB name calling now.?”

AKB is such a silly term. Who in his right mind thinks Wenger does everything right ? One may be in favor of keeping Wenger at the helm despite his numerous failures but that is so different from assuming Wenger can’t do anything wrong. It’s a very simplistic term which is used as a weapon to denounce any argument which is contrary to the popular belief here on LG. Besides it shows a complete lack of respect to posters for whom the term is used. I want Wenger out yet I never use the term “AKB”. It’s lowers the standard of conversation here on LG as far as I am concerned. Each to his own though !!

  40. underrated Coq

qna, You accused me of having a heightened sense of superiority or inferiority just because I mentioned I’m a student. Its almost as stupid as would be me accusing you of having a complex ( to or against other countries) when you tell me your nationality.

  41. Joe

    Anyway.

Basically if Pep and Jose are at the Manchester clubs and Wenger is about next season, that’s 12 points lost before we even kick a ball.

  42. Joe

Liverpool will be stronger under Klopp. Spurs will keep improving. Everton should be doing better. It’s going to be a tough top 6 next season

  43. vicky

    Joe

Sam supports Arsenal kids and players. He doesn’t care whether Wenger leaves or stays.

NM thinks Wenger does what is least expected of him. In his view Wenger neither overachieves nor underachieves and Kroenke is content with his performance. Does he think Wenger is infallible ? I don’t think so. I remember him criticizing Wenger on a few occasions.

Wallace did not think not signing a single outfield player in the summer was a smart thing to do. He doesn’t recommend keeping Arteta and Flamini on our books. So, surely he doesn’t agree with everything Wenger does.

Gary doesn’t post as regularly as some of the others here, so very difficult for me to say anything on him.
