#ArseneKnows on Benzema | Yaya Sa-no-goals

Gooooood evening people. A short one for you today because international football week is really dry.

Karim Benzema looks like he’s in big trouble. His phone was totally tapped and it doesn’t look good.

Now it’s become clear why Arsene Wenger didn’t pull the trigger on the move…

I feel good about not having a Karim in our side right now.

That said, the likelihood of him getting jail time just before his nation hosts the Euros seems pretty slim. He got away with underage hookers by arguing he couldn’t have known the age.

Hmmm…

In other more salacious news, it appears Mesut is back with his exGF. Form in your personal life usually reflects in your work life. He’s on fire, maybe being happy has helped him?

Finally, it’s not looking good for Yaya Sanogo. Wenger slyly slipped Bergkamp our dud signing, I mean, a fine bit of con-manship there! Apparently, he’s appeared 3 times for  a combined 47minutes, failing to net at all. He’s now not scored in 20 competitive games.

You’d have to say it’s unlikely he’ll be making it with us… well, unless something pretty major happens!

Right, that’s me done.

Catch ya later! x

P.S if you take the free spin on this game they are giving away a bunch of flights or something.

Guilty or not Benzema will still be cleared of all charges. The rich and famous rarely do time but his national team career. May be over

    Evening Grovers!

    International break is soooooooo boring!

Never really rated Benzema and now he’s allegedly technically a peodo, good riddance bullet massively dodged.

  3. WengerEagle

‘Never really rated Benzema and now he’s allegedly technically a peodo, good riddance bullet massively dodged.’

    He’s miles better than Giroud/Theo.

Shame he’s also a bit of a melt from the looks of things.

  4. salparadisenyc

    “Never really rated Benzema”

    Benny

Benz may have a brain the size of a pea with judgement to match, but that doesn’t take away from the fact he’s a world class striker. Strictly on a playing front he’d be smashing it within out setup.

Who knows what transpired this summer, if it was Wenger’s sixth sense that scuppered it or if there was ever solid talks. One things for certain imagine spending beyond Ozil money for the CF and have this go down a couple month later?

    Bullet dodged indeed.

  5. shad

You have to really wonder what Wenger saw in Sanogoal. Maybe he was dupped that it was Martial..

Kid plays like bamby on ice and AW flaunts him as a “£50m player in a few years”. He’s not even worth a fraction of that in monopoly money.

  6. shad

Benzema is world class. He’s scored what this season, 11 goals in 9 apps. No doubt he is class on the pitch, he’s what Giroud dreams of being.

    Off it though..

  7. I am arsene

    We

    Disagree

Theo was never given a proper go up front
His record from real fur wing is nearly as prolific as benzema’s up front
He doesn’t have the same frame as a lone striker but he more than makes up for that with his runs and pace. I’d rather theo than that sneaky rat any day.

  8. salparadisenyc

Apparently Sanchez played the full 90+, a turgid draw w/ Colombia.

    YES Total Wenger move!

Sign Benz for £20m, call it redemption. Then Schneiderlin for £10m after Van G decides its time for another rebuild.

  9. MidwestGun

As I said on other thread tho, the Benz thing will affect everyone because what RM does in the transfer market trickles down to everyone. And that’s not boring, sorry.

    Karim –
Thanks. … think I might skip a punt on the Irish. Want them to win it. Never bet with your heart as they say.

Best description of Yaya Sanogo ever — “The Colonel” 31 August 2014… still has me in stitches… Colonel if you still read the blog, I salute you!

“Sanogoal, for all his effort, looks like a Camel chasing a coconut down the stairs. Not good enough for us or any other Premier League club….”

    Take a bow sir! 🙂

  11. Nasri's Mouth

shad: You have to really wonder what Wenger saw in Sanogoal.

He saw him a young kid with potential who was very cheap. It was a gamble. There wasn’t much wrong with going for him.

The problem was NOT going for someone else too. Not going for an established £50m (or similar) player.

Then of course, when we had to play Sanogo, Wenger had to defend himself, so he bigged up Sanogo.

  12. WengerEagle

    I am arsene

Benzema has scored 233 club+country goals in 514 apps. (goal every 2.2 matches)

Theo in comparison has scored 88 goals in 353 apps. (goal every 4 matches)

That’s just factoring in goals, which is Theo’s strong point.

When you look at their Champions League scoring records it gets ugly for Theo:

    57 apps, 14 goals.

    Benzema:

    77 apps, 45 goals.

If you look past the goals, Benzema is better than Theo in literally every footballing department, better finisher, better dribbler, better passer, better first touch and ball control, better aerially, can shoot with both feet, can hold the ball up, can play with his back to goal, can combine in quick passing moves, etc.

The only thing Theo has over him is speed.

  13. Nasri's Mouth

    @WengerEagle

Theo plays from the wing though, so it would be unfair to compare goals against a no.9

Maybe do a goal+assist comparison to be fairer

“Guilty or not Benzema will still be cleared of all charges. The rich and famous rarely do time but his national team career. May be over”

    Not true.
Not if the case falls on the laps of an ultra-ambitious public prosecutor (investigative judge in France). There’s a target in the backs of big suspects because they are escalators to draw public attention and climb the professional ladder.

  15. Leedsgunner

Well said Nasri… if Wenger bought an established player along with an unproven prospect I don’t think we would mind as much…

Yeah beacuse Wenger knew everything about the blackmailing then.

  17. Dissenter

    Wenger Eagle,
I glanced at the RoI team playing Bosnia today and can’t believe how low Irish footie has fallen.
There used to be a time when there were Irish players in big teams. I’m not sure there’s any Irish player playing CL football at the moment.

Somehow I still tip Ireland to beat Bosnia despite the Pjanics and Dzeko.

Ireland to win on Penalties after two drab draws.

Come Out, Ye Black and Tans

  18. WengerEagle

    NM

Agree, was just using the goals as IAA said that Theo’s record was on par with Benzema’s even from the wing which is a lie.

Since 2009/10 according to whoscored stats their League/Champions League stats:

    Theo Walcott:

    181 apps (123 starts + 58 subs)- 53 goals, 36 assists. (89 goals directly involved)

    Karim Benzema:

    250 apps (192 starts + 58 subs)- 124 goals, 62 assists. (186 goals directly involved)

    Hmmmm, not so true.
Had Wenger got this young “talent” and sent hm on loan to prove himself, then he would have done his 8 million a year job properly.
Wenger really persisted with this footballing oaf, playing him against Bayern Munich.
Wenger’s problem was even bringing Sanogo into the first team and elevating him above Chuba Akpom and Benik Afobe.

  20. WengerEagle

    Dissenter

Fully with you on that, our current squad is so painfully average.

We’d be on par with Wales but they have an absolute world beater in Bale and an excellent player in Ramsey that is miles better than anything we have.

When the MLS based Robbie Keane is still one of your best players at 35 you know that you are in real trouble.

We just don’t have anything coming through sadly, haven’t been excited about a player since McGeady for a very brief period before he hit years of medicority and inconsistency.

Coleman is our best player and our only player right now who is UCL level IMO.

Miss the days of Keano (Roy), Duff, Given, Robbie in his prime.

  21. Nasri's Mouth

    @Dissenter

    Eh ?

I didn’t say he’d done his job properly.

I said there was nothing much wrong with buying Sanogo.

  22. kwik fit

So its none of the above guys 😉

But it’s Friday night and I’m sure you’ll all have it upright and perked by the end of the night!

  23. bennydevito

WengetEagle, Karim, other Benz boys – he is good no doubt and better than what we have in Theo and Giroud but at the price being touted, his age and now his off-field antics I’m glad we didn’t get him. He’s not in the class if Aquero, Suarez or what RVP was for us, he was pretty meh if you ask me.

  24. Nasri's Mouth

bennydevito: He’s not in the class if Aquero, Suarez or what RVP was for us,

I’d say Benzema isn’t as good a player as Aguero or RvP talent wise, but he’s probably a better buy given their injury issues.

  25. Cesc Appeal

Who was the poster who was making a list of names to come back at at the end of last season when ‘Sanogo had proved them wrong?’

I remember thinking it was a ballsy position to take at the time, Sanogo really is bad, I mean, really, seriously bad.

In one respect he is very much an Arsenal player, tendons, joints and ligaments made of wet paper napkins.

  26. MidwestGun

    Cesc –
That sounds like a Willow Wilson but who knows. Some of the youth tauted on here as the next big thing are really not very good when you watch them over a period of 5 or 6 matches. Don’t get me started on Zelelam. Lol.

  27. Sam

Theo is a family man n a model footballer.
Not sure you would want your pretty son to end up like dirty Karim
And you still arsenal should buy him. Lol!!!

    Dream on!!!

  28. Sam

I certainly want my son to be like Theo, play his football. Only shags his wife no one else. No limelight no outrageous lifestyle like that French twat from Madrid

  29. Leedsgunner

Is this a friendly between England and Spain? I’m so apathetic about England I’ve forgotten…

Complete waste of time. For their own sake all our players should have been withdrawn… Whose playing from AFC Gibbs and Cazorla?

  30. London gunner

I would sign a cunt like Costa, but benzema can’t be forgiven he is a true scum bag.

Blackmailing your own team mate? Definition of scum bag.

  31. Cesc Appeal

    MidWest

I know, people are all too ready to proclaim a youth prospect as the ‘internal answer.’

Sometimes it works, but then emergences like Bellerin are made all the more pleasant by the sheer number of youth failures that sort of tell you all you need to know.

  32. London gunner

Benzema is a very good footballer

Obviously far better than giroud and theo, but he is not a great.

He for me is around the level of your current higuains ibra and cavani’s.

Never reached lewandowski/suarez/ aguero or peak ibra/Torres/falcao/tevez levels .

  33. London gunner

I would also add what Diego Costa has achieved with atletico was far more impressive than what benzema has achieved at Real Madrid.

Diego Won a historic title in an underdog team being along with courtouis the key reason for them racking up those points.

  34. Sam

Football is not always about glory it’s mainly a community sports
You must be really crazy to compare Theo Walcott with Benzema
Theo is arsenal poster boy n Benzema is a thug

  35. WengerEagle

‘He for me is around the level of your current higuains ibra and cavani’s.’

You’ve certainly changed your tune, distinctly remember you rating him as one of the top 5 strikers in world football very recently.

He’s much better than Ibra has been lately and is in a different class to Cavani.

Higuain has been on fire this season but I still prefer Benzema and rate him as the better striker.

On current form Lewandowski is better but I’d argue that over the last 5 years they have more or less been on the same level.

Aguero and Suarez for me are the only two strikers that are a tier above.

  36. steve

    —————————————————————————
Gibbs on the bench. You are right about it being a waste of time. All the interlulls are. We could have a proper winter break if the international football was done properly. No playing the likes of San Marino etc.

  38. Goondawg

They said that the Germans had to evacuate their hotel because of an anonymous bomb threat.

Now reports of casualties and grenades thrown in a bar near Stade du France

    Ominous signs before the euros.

  39. Joe

Can’t disagree with any of this written after Tottenham match

He’s a domestic manager, who had extraordinary success due to a special set of circumstances. Wenger may project himself as a world great in his own deluded mind, but deep down he unwittingly gives the game away by spouting philosophical garbage about how it’s not the winning that counts but the taking part. No other manager talks such excrement, because no other manager is that self-absorbed or feels the need to insulate their own reputation with preposterous self-endorsements in L’Equipe.

A psychiatrist could write a book about Wenger’s acquired personality disorder, then another book about why so many people are completely blind to his fraudulent malevolence. Never before has a club had a board so curiously abnormal, and fans so defiled by their own ignorance and insecurities.

Watching that North London derby, it struck me just how much Wenger’s training ground methods and philosophies are bankrupt. What on earth does he do on the training ground every day of the week that’s different from the weeks, months and years before? All that pass and move, yet his teams cannot keep possession of the ball for more than two minutes unless they’re playing against garbage – and even then they’re vulnerable.

But nobody must question Arsene. That’s why his teams have no leaders, just cowards like Mertesacker. It’s all completely self-defeating, but Arsene’s reputation must come first, and remember – a turd can always rise to the top! Some are stubborn to flush.

But I still can’t see the turd that is Wenger’s Arsenal rising to the top, unless all Arsenal’s rivals continue to plummet and Man City lose Aguero, Silva and Kompany for much longer spells this season.

Wow, serious trouble in Paris indeed ….

Several shootings and a couple of explosions near the stadium.
President Hollande just left the stadium.

    Here we go again….

  41. Danish Gooner

Two more goals from lewa but i am certain he woudnt have improved our excellent squad of one recognized attacker.

  42. London gunner

    Wenger Eagle

You always jump in with rude comments? Why is this?

You haven’t understood my argument it’s not about consistency but talking about peak levels.

Benzema and lewandowski were relatively similar in quality for The past few years, but lewandowski has turned it up a few notches and is superior to benzema in pretty much every attribute.

Benzema may be a very good player, but I just don’t see him being remembered as a great.

When ronaldo’ storm drops benzema isn’t that player who can drag you ever the finish line and win matches almost single handidly.

    Aguero has been for city
RVP was for us and City
Tevez has been for city and juventus
    Suarez for liverpool
    Ibra was for Psg
    Costa for atletico
    Lewandowski Dortmund.

Benzema has been class in a team dynamic but never has been that individual that completely turn a game on its head and win It single handedly

  43. MidwestGun

    Eagle –
So far you were spot on with your 1-1 prediction. This reminds me of the US versus Costa Rica match played in a snowstorm.
Will be a crazy good result considering. Little help from the football Gods.

  44. WengerEagle

    London Gunner

Was a little tongue in cheek, sorry if it sounded like I was digging you out, realise that tone can get lost on here.

Fully respect that you rate Lewandowski as a better player than Benzema, I was just making a counter-argument in favour of Benz.

I’d argue that he demonstrated his ability to carry a team at Lyon as a youngster, he scored 30+ goals in a season at a very young age and was outstanding in the Champions League.

‘The past few years, but lewandowski has turned it up a few notches and is superior to benzema in pretty much every attribute’

So you are judging Lewandowski to be a better player because of a 15-20 match stretch at the start of the season?

Benzema has had a fine start to the season too, 7 goals in 8 matches before he got injured.

He’s definitely not better in every category either.

Would also argue with your Ibra inclusion in there, he has never carried PSG, always flatters to decieve in the UCL.

  45. Sam

QPR don’t win trophies I am sure as a football club it’s serving the community n provide locals with entertainments n other activities.
Not always about winning bcoz it’ one trophy n only one club out of 20 will win it.

  46. Nasri's Mouth

What the fuck is happening in Paris ?

A big assumption at the moment, but I’m just going to sat what a cunt religion is

  47. Sam

Madrid would be laughing at us now he we fall for their summer propaganda n paid up big money for that thug

We’ll keep out white Drogba thank you!!!

  48. Goondawg

This is fucked up. 4th explosion minutes ago in the neighbourhood next to the station..

This is definitely a co-ordinated attack, when the spotlight is on a football game, to make sure the world knows the Euros isn’t safe either.

  49. Nasri's Mouth

I’d imagine it’s too quick to be a retaliation for Jihadi John, so it was probably planned just for the football.

I just wish these wankers would just find something else to do.

I know your not a Ibra fan, but I think he has/had sensational skill and technique making the most complex things look easy like he does it for shits and giggles.

    Has been brilliant every where he has played (bar Barca where he was actually very good, but had Messi to contend with and a manager who hated his attitude}

Yeah maybe Benzema just hasn’t lived up the hype?

I would put him in the mould of Hazard another Le Grove fan favourite.
Yes he is a brilliant player, but not a Ballon D’or contender level.

In terms of the elite of the elite in attacking players I have.

    Messi
    Ronaldo
    Neymar
    Robben
    Suarez
    Aguero
    lewandowski
    thomas muller

For me Benzema/Hazard/Bale/sanchez/david silva/ douglas costa/james rodriguez(expect him to become elite though)/reus are just the level below
