Arsenal v United. Let’s make this the big one again

Greetings from Sunday morning y’all, Alex here with a short post.

So its the big one today against Manchester United: league leaders and flavour-of-the-month-fraudulent-over-achievers. This fixture used to be massive, an intense blistering affair packed full of, not just the best players in the league, but the nastiest bastards you’d ever care to meet.

I met someone recently who knows Dennis Irwin. Apparently to this day he still despises Arsenal. Not because we were the best, but because we were the nastiest team he ever played against. I’m not advocating we turn into a bunch of cheats, but I kind of yearn for the times when teams absolutely hated playing against us. Do you reckon any of that United midfield are worried about Santi Cazorla bullying them off the park today in the way Viera used to? I doubt it.

Ah but look at me, its Sunday morning and I’ve become one of those “we need leader’s on the pitch” people. Maybe it’s not that, I just want to see some fire in the players’ bellies today. United are a bunch of evil bastards and we should be going out there for a battle.

In terms of team news, our best defender, Laurent Koscielny, is crocked. I’m pretty happy with Per and Gabriel as a pairing though. We can expect to see Theo up top, and after his strong display against Leicester, lets hope he’s got his shooting boots on.

There’s not really much else going on today… oh yeah other than HUGE LOL at Chelsea’s meltdown, have you ever seen a Championship winning side turn south so dramatically? Also big man love for Kun Aguero. What a sexy player.

I’m going to be at the game today, unbelievably only my second home game all season, I’m such a shit fan. Hopefully see some of you there.

Here’s to a strong performance and three points. Up the Arsenal!

I don’t give a fuck about those dimwits. They’re literally the dumbest, crudest, most brainless people here. What they say matters not a wit.

I support one team: Arsenal. Like many others here, however, I criticize Arsenal where I think criticism is deserved, and I applaud other teams and other players where I think applause appropriate.

    That is all.

    Fucking hell!!!

Wenger doing in-game coaching on Ramsey.

WTF!! Has his new woman had a word in his shell??

    Bayern 2 – 1 Dortmund. HT.

Screw Bayern Munich. Its all about the game at the Emirates.

Calm down on the walcott praise.

Yes he is playing well, but we can and should still expect more.

Still don’t think he is playing to his maximum potential yet. Though is showing signs of slow improvement.

  5. InsideRight

One swallow doesn’t make a summer and all that, but I’ve always said Walcott was signed because he could play in the centre and that we should have used him there years ago.

He now looks like he’s finding his feet in the role again.

A bit of refinement of his technique and a run of games and I think he’ll do a decent job there.

  6. Bamford10

Schwein, Carrick and Fellaini all playing in the same space. LVG is an idiot.

Cech with another good save. He’s having a great game.

  7. london gunner

Walcott isn’t and wont ever be a dribbler.

However his first touch particularly the spin and turn with the ball has looked good today. May seem like a simple move but is imperative to have that ability if you want to be a CF as it allows you to play with your back to goal.

Hate I mean Hate Ramsey on wing. I would say Ox but he hasn’t been great.
I would have brought in Reus.

  8. gonsterous

so what has wenger done ??? we look more vulnerable and likely to concede after he spoke to ramsey !!!! bring the shit to the middle.. great idea wenger

  9. gonsterous

good news bringing in giroud… cech has had no option so far. either give it short and invite pressure or kick it long and give it back to them !!!

  10. Leedsgunner

We need to build from this and not rest on laurels. Like I said earlier this week, although I was disappointed with the loss to Olympiakos — I would have taken 3 points over United any day of the week.

  11. gonsterous

ozil has been beautiful today… some people say i play like him.. mostly just my parents and imaginary friends !!!

  12. warchester

goon, that’s why he’s wasted in wengerball…when we’re chasing a game…and we do that sideways passing, ozil looks useless

  13. nepGunner

Wenger having a piss all over again just to prove evone wrong…I mean a blind man could see Ramsey was having a stinker…I believe this where Wenger is way past his sell by date..we could hv easily hammered the c@#ts for 5, 6 or even 8 and restore some dignity back after that horrible 8-2..No spine, no pride.

  14. Bamford10

Credit where credit is due: Wenger clearly had a word with the players and they have shown up today.

    Other positives include:
    – Walcott is improving at CF. Better hold-up play.
    – Ozil played with energy and quality in a big game.
    – Cazorla with another massive performance.
    – Cech was excellent.

I do think LVG got their set-up wrong and that that helped us, but I won’t belabor that point.

Question is: which Arsenal will we see in the next match, and in the next, and in the next? Our play is highly, highly inconsistent, and my money is still on our under-achieving both in the EPL and the CL.

  15. Johnty79

    I predicted a arsenal win so I’ve been vindicated…

Ozil has been so so..but you can’t have a passenger in a team like him.

Joke on the paper that Sanchez was close to signing 130k aweek…Sanchez must have the worst agent in the world. Man utd would give him 300 k aweek no problem.

    He deserves 300k aweek.

  16. Goona

@nep…agreed…lots of them on a yellow….wenger dont have the killer instinct….imagine if the title goes down to goals? ….

  17. S Asoa

Sanchez looking injured for some time. Imbecile took him now after ensuring long term injury for star player.

  18. Dissenter

“I do think LVG got their set-up wrong and that that helped us, but I won’t belabor that point.”

    Not true
We won because we were better on the day
    Nothing to do with LVG

We were first to every ball. This was a reaction game for us after the midweek nonsense.

Spot on post. All well and good having half the posters in here spunk their load, but to think we’ve turned a corner is disingenuous and short sited.

Wenger has got a reaction from the lads and long may it continue. But there’s not point brushing Utd then going on to drop point in amateurish fashion next time out.

  20. gonsterous

oh man, life seems good again after so long… arsenal is like that first girlfriend who was your best friend that understood and still understands you. So much history along with so much pain and happy moments.. this is emotional ^^

  21. london gunner

Mata has bettter defensive stats than Ozil, Hazard, Willian, Oscar and Cesc

Was player of the season two seasons in a row and had a season of 15 goals 15 assists which ozil has never replicated…

Don;t be knee jerk because of one match

  22. useroz

Poor decision and choice by Gabriel. Immediately put us under pressure again. Put the foot thru the ball and let Giroud fight the battle up front.

  23. Samesong

There second half is how they will play against us old trafford

apart from that Martial chance and Swiney chance they haven’t really troubled us.

  24. steve

So predictable that Wanker was going to get a result. Hate seeing that maggot celebrate. He doesn’t deserve success.

  25. InsideRight

L’Oreal should have buried that. Time, space, and places it straight at the keeper. That’s why he’s a sidekick and shouldn’t be the superhero.

  26. Paulinho

“Mata not as good as Ozil. Pretty much what I said yesterday. Better shooter, not as creative, slower and doesnt defend for shit.”

    Pretty much.

Ozil has stardust at times (too infrequently for me) but Mata is just a technical plodder.

  27. useroz

Giroud passed to de Gea fr 13 yards….wot a waste

Walcott, Giroud are all the same…..mosrt of the time shoot straight at the keepers. They don’t even need to move ffs.

    2 min + fergie time….

  28. Highbury4ever

Negatives : wenger is now a god (again) to “some irreductibles” fans, and the team will probably delivers a shamefull performance next game.

Positive : I fucking hate the manure scum and I’m so happy with this result!! lol

  29. gonsterous

i feel that in a season or two we will see Gibbs playing for everton or stoke… Been on the same lvl since he was 19.

  30. Ozy

In order for Bamford to praise Arsenal, he needs to say “credit where credit is due”

Finishes it all off with stating we will still underperform in the league and Champions League.

Praises our rivals and their players when they win or play well with no ifs, ands or buts… but when it’s Arsenal, it’s as if it pains him to do the same.

  31. Marko

Another solid game from Gab. Bar one sloppy pass he’s had Martial in his pocket. Special mention to Bellerin. Fantastic going forward in the first half and solid in the second winning some tough headers. Well done lad

  32. Bamford10

Let’s see where we are at season’s end. Mata still has better numbers than Ozil and his 15 and 15 as a CAM for Chelsea is something I don’t think Ozil will touch.

And please don’t start with “he doesn’t defend”. Neither does Ozil, and if Team Ozil were honest, they’d admit there are games when Ozil plays like a complete pussy and wanker.

None of this takes away from his quality today, but please don’t get carried away. One good performance in a big game does not end the discussion. Not even close.

Try responding to the actual point I made. I didn’t say we won because of the set-up; I said that the bad set-up helped us. Different claim.

  33. Paulinho

“Wait, what? This is news to me. As far as I knew, he was the Chelsea club player of year for two seasons.”

When Chelsea finish on average around fifth.

Gets good stats; weakens the all round collective.

  34. steve

Meaningless result since Arsenal still won’t be relevant I’m the long run while keeping Wenger safe at the same time.

  35. Ozy

What I want to know is if Wenger was going to play Walcott as a CF, why didn’t he bring in a genuine right-wing player? Oxlade is not ready and Ramsey is so poor there.

Oh no, Ox.. that would have been beautiful.
