What is the perfect situation for Wenger to sign players?

Rain, gets, me, down.

I don’t think I’ve known it to consistently p*ss down like this in August, ever. Rain is rarely relentless in this town.

How dare it. How bloody dare it. DAMN YOU MOTHER NATURE.

So what do we have in Arsenal news today?

A big plate of nothing. Not even an agent trying to push a terrible client into a terrible club like Spurs.

I didn’t read Wenger bemoaning the stupid window.

‘When the season starts the window should be finished.’

‘Simple as that. It is too big an advantage for clubs that didn’t work well during the transfer window.

‘The funds are there, people know that you have the resources, but the players are not available.

‘We expect, like you, to make another signing. But at the moment, we are not close.’

I mean, when you look at our history in the window, you’d have to say we’re generally one of those clubs that rarely work well in the transfer window. Looking at the squad we have now, you’d have to say that Wenger has once again missed a trick to make sure in the window.

We’re getting to that point where clubs can’t buy in replacements. So if we’re hoping to sign mega players, well, I’d say those dreams are ones that you usually find in a pipe.

Disappointing. The manager bitched for years that money was the issue, now he has all the money, he’s bitching that it’s hard because others have money.

Can someone just find the perfect situation where there are no other clubs, there’s no window, there are no hiccups and there are no players that want more money than him.

Then we’d be in a great situation. Wenger would have his utopian dream.

He’d still find an excuse though.

I hope the CEO has put some pressure on him this season.

Wenger should put some skin in the game. If he’s confident this squad will win the league, he should say, ‘If I don’t at least form a credible challenge this season, I’ll when my deal is done’… because really, after all the bollocks we’ve faced over the years, after all the excuses, after all the ‘just get behind the team’, I felt we were on the cusp of greatness.

The manager, as it stands, hasn’t pushed the squad where it needs to go.

If it doesn’t work out. Is there a price to pay? Or is it going to be another 10 year contract at the end of the malaise? Another ‘internal investigation’ into what went wrong, when really, it all goes wrong at the start of the season when you don’t address squad deficiencies.

Man City finished 2nd last year with a Championship winning squad. They’ve just dropped £100m. Chelsea are Champions, they’ll have signed Stones and Pedro. United have spent a fortune. Liverpool have spent a fortune.

We finished 3rd. Why haven’t we spent a fortune when we have 1) glaring problems 2) problems we’ve known about for years 3) had the resources to buy 4) seen top players that were within reach go elsewhere.

It’s cray. It’s bananas. It’s fucking mental, but ever so typical.

Have a great day, enjoy the rain and smelling like a wet dog on the tube.

    DM who?
    F**k outta here.
Let’s hear you dish out the excuses like Josè “cunt master” Mourinho today.

So why did I beat you……again?
Was it the linesman , nervousness, lack of ZeeMentalZtrengthz or the lack of cutting edge?

  2. psymon001

All our money has actually gone on a cloning lab where can grow more Wilsheres and Diabys. He won’t have to sign them because then he will already own them.
Would also be useful to grow spare parts fire his favourite players.
Of course actually signing players would be too simple a solution to our deficiencies.

  3. Bankz

One thing is certainly, you can’t blame this on COHESION……..that’s an exclusive excuse of Arsene Wenger.
We don’t even know what they means……..yet.
He needs to break it down to we feeble minded fans

  4. Bankz

All our money has actually gone on a cloning lab where can grow more Wilsheres and Diabys.

Looks like we’ve successfully cloned Abou Vasariki Digby. ……Jeff Reine- Adeliade

  5. Uwot?

We’re doomed I tell ya!we’re doomed!pedro,it’s all about the ceo.thats where the anger should be directed.from there it works it’s way either up or down.take your pick..

  6. freddylekgunner

Even if we get a tough group, I still believe we will qualify though only to be knocked out again in the next round.

  7. Dream10

    Bankz

Unbelievable. As a leading member of the #Bankzout team, I am shocked that you continue to defy the odds.

  8. vicky

“Man City finished 2nd last year with a Championship winning squad. They’ve just dropped £100m. Chelsea are Champions, they’ll have signed Stones and Pedro. United have spent a fortune. Liverpool have spent a fortune. We finished 3rd. Why haven’t we spent a fortune”

Yeah we need reinforcements but let us not glorify spending a fortune. It’s not quite a virtue, is it ?

  9. Carts

Wenger’s point is valid in a weird kind of way. If the window was already closed for us then our only signing would be just Cech though. Cos surely, the suration of the window doesn’t necessarily means Real would sell and Benzema would agree to it.

“People know that you have resorces” – I bet Wenger wished we were privately listed, that way he couldn’t talk in more riddles and be as vague as he wants to be. When Sky and BT announce massive deals, and Arsenal sell for big money while securing CL football it doesn’t take a genius to make a guestimate as to how much we have

  10. salparadisenyc

Wenger is so god damn predictable, hell bent on creating the premier leagues utopia of proper fiscal management. Regardless of the consequence bearing in mind 4th is the target.

We could be having this conversation in a decade.

  11. DUIFG

Yeah we need reinforcements but let us not glorify spending a fortune. It’s not quite a virtue, is it ?

not a virtue but makes it near impossible for you to compete if you spend nothing.

im not looking for the club to buy a 50 mil player, a passable attempt at strengthening the squad could be done with half that figure

  12. freddylekgunner

Pedro is thinking that the CEO will put pressure on Wenger. Why would they? They are satisfied with with the pile of unspent cash. Wenger though likes to win, you can see his attitude when the team is not playing well but certainly he is delusional thinking his squad can win the league.

  13. Carts

Don’t get me wrong, I agree with the idea that the TW should be closed before the season starts. But the problem one would encounter would be that not all leagues start & finish simultaneously. So how do you go about that predicament?

  14. freddylekgunner

I still don’t understand the Coq criticism by Pedro. He was great against Liverpool, one of our best performers in that game. For me Wenger got the starting 11 wrong by playing Ramsey on the wing yet again and also failing to make the right substitutions on time

  15. DM

Congrats Bankz, twice in a row!

Advance notice here: I’m on holiday from next week for around 9 days, and even when I get back pretty soon after that I have religious observances for a while which will mean I wont be on here posting. So I don’t wanna find loads of “where’s DM now?” when I’m back!

  16. Crispy

Anything but 3 points vs Newcastle and things will very ugly very quickly……. again.

It really is groundhog season…… shit window, bad form early doors, some good results, winning run, out the league cup to Spurs, knockout stages of CL, a good run in the cup , finish 4th…………

  17. Biggus

CEO ain’t doing nothing. After Wenger, he has the easiest job in the business. Probably on holiday during the transfer window; phone all switched off and no internet access, just smooth chilling laughing at fans yearning for new signings.

Then he comes back with all those excuses about how he expects big things as well and money spent on research to make Wenger live forever so he can always be at Arsenal.

  18. DM

Having said which, I’m not sure why Bankz winning twice, after around 4-5 months of continuous DM, suddenly means Bankz is back on top. He’s in my pocket boys and girls, don’t you worry about that. On my off days he occasionally gets it (more often though it’s someone else), but any day I’m on form he’s not even a teeny tiny threat.

  19. salparadisenyc

I’ve got no problem with the transfer window as it stands, I do have a problem with Wenger’s treatment of it. His lack of evolvement is the achilles to any title challenge.

  20. freddylekgunner

    @Carts
I don’t agree that the transfer window should be closed before the start of the PL. it’s an advantage for all the teams. You can only complain when you can’t compete.

  21. salparadisenyc

Its pretty simple DM we can relate to Bank… he’s our Wenger at the end of the rainbow plucking a couple FA cups after a long barren spell.

You’re Mourinho esque run was far too much to stomach. Powerful and sustained.
Wish our midfield could pull that.

  22. Doublegooner

On the showing of the first 3 games Clousseau’s squad look ripe again for one of the old thrashings this season.

  23. vicky

Transfer window should be closed before the start of the season. Look at the drama unfolding around Stones,Wanyama, De Brune and many other players. They don’t know for which team will they be playing their next game while their season is already underway. Unsettles players, fellow team mates, managers almost everyone involved with a club. Absolutely nonsensical to keep the window open till 1st September.

  24. Bankz

    Bankz back with a bang!
DM whattcha sayiny bruv? Retaliation is a must or sometimes it’s better to miss out on the 4th trophy…

    Biggus- LOL

I keep telling DM, I had busy & better things to do in the last 2months. I was restructuring & finishing up a personal building. I’m almost done now so my unblemished reign is shaping up again.

When I’m on form, DM will have about the same effect as Sanogo has on EPL Defenders.
Ask azed, N5, Romford & all the other challengers……I’m ALWAYS the competition to beat.

  25. Dissenter

I hope we don’t get to the Liverpool situation.
Five years from here, pundits could be reminding us that’s “its been 16 years since Arsenal won the league”

In England, no one is going to ever win the league in principle alone, there will have to be some spending to match rivals.

  26. Snowman

Wenger is just a cry baby, getting sick and tired of him complaining how conditions are unfair while he is the one handicapping himself with his stubbornness to change his ways. He acts as if the money in the bank is his…he should be man enough and say that all he is aiming for is fourth therefore he does not see the point of spending… Cause winning a league takes much more than a striker who can’t turn to his right,EVER, cause he only has one foot he can use and that foot isn’t even good enough. Bottom line is, wenger is done as a top manager,it’s time he invested in horses.

  27. Bankz

Unbelievable. As a leading member of the #Bankzout team, I am shocked that you continue to defy the odds.

    Dream10- Lol!
I keep telling you guys, unlike Wenger, I’m a winner……I NEVER give up

  28. Robin van Bergkamp

You’d think Wenger would himself be tired having to recycle the same excuses on an annual basis but true to form, there he goes again. For AFC fans sadly, it’s the form of a loser with a losing mentality. A coward who can no longer stomach the fight at the top anymore. Why else would he fashion an imaginary trophy out of finishing 4th? Fourth place for Heaven’s sake!! That’s a consolation prize. Crumbs from the table of winners which sadly under Wenger, we no longer dine at anymore. Dispense with him and bring in a manager who is hungry and will refine us for success. The old tired dog needs to be out out to pasture.

  29. Dissenter

    Sal,
I’m hoping that we get the most difficult straw too but Gladbach and Bayern are German clubs so cannot be in the same group.

We won’t have any easy games this season because of mid table clubs have strengthened.
We won’t be getting our customary three points at St James Park, we’ll be lucky to escape with a draw.

  30. #WAHT

I do totally agree the transfer window should close before the season starts however, it hasn’t. SO BUY SOMEONE.

I also think (probably because i’m an Arsenal fan) it should only be open for like 1 week. Everyone does everything, none of this fannying about.

Manager: I want player X, we heard he’s fine with moving on.
Other team: He is, but we want £40m
    Manager: How about £30m?
    Other team: No
    Manager: £35m?
    Other team: £38m and it’s a deal.

Yes/No and then get on with it. Everyone has a price, meet it or go away.

  31. salparadisenyc

    Dissenter

Good point… after having a quick look I chose the ties i’d most like to see.
    Scratch Bayern insert Barca.

  32. DM

“I keep telling DM, I had busy & better things to do in the last 2months.”

    LOL

    1. I thought you weren’t allowed to give excuses/reasons Bankz? Just yesterday I believe you yourself told me that Bankz never makes excuses. HA

    2. What about the 2 months before that??

Total joker. U told me u were gonna bring it, that was months ago, after which point I won probably 90% of the time, and the other 10% was usually other people. Honestly, when I see that there are already comments on a new post, you’re the last person I’m worried about it being. Let’s see if your form the last couple of days continues and then it will feel all the more satisfying when I keep winning again

  33. Bankz

It’s been 3 competitive games into the season and it already feels like a blur to me.
I’m not excited one bit about what this season holds for us.
I’m 100% certain we won’t be challenging for either the EPL or champions league crowns.
I give zero fucks about who we get in the group stages as I already know we won’t be making it past the last 16 or at best the last 8.

Best case scenario, we will the capital one cup, that’s if we get past SPUDs. I don’t or can’t see us retaining our FAcup for a 3rd time.

Whichever way you view things at the club, you see stagnation.
Voluntary stagnation seeing we have millions sitting in the bank that could have been used to develop a much more competitive squad.
Seeing we still have a man past his sell by date at the helm of the football affairs, knowing fully well that he doesn’t have what it takes to challenge for titles in the modern era.

Which ever way you look at things, we’re so fucked……fucked for the next couple of years.

  34. Marc

I think the Arsenal company is accumulating cash to soon pay out a dividend to shareholders. What other football club can do that? Says Wenger!

  35. Bankz

CEO ain’t doing nothing. After Wenger, he has the easiest job in the business. Probably on holiday during the transfer window; phone all switched off and no internet access, just smooth chilling laughing at fans yearning for new signings.

    LOOOOOOOOOOL!
    Biggus you’re a clown

  36. steve

Wenger would rather not use the time that’s left in the window just because he thinks the windows should be closed by now. Nothing will change until the cunt is gone.

  37. Iceman

There is no perfect situation for AW to sign players. Here we are in’ Groundhog Day’ approaching mode. Neville was correct – he is arrogant and the people that pay are the fans.

First, he says that we will only sign quality. Then he says we are trying our hardest to get things done early. Now, he is saying that we are working hard to the deadline! He needs to fuck off now – enough is enough. Chelsea finished first and are strengthening. City finished second and are strengthening. United finished fourth and are doing the same – all cases because they want to win the league and will burst a blood vessel to do it. Arsenal- GROUNDHOG DAY!!!

  38. Bankz

Advance notice here: I’m on holiday from next week for around 9 days, and even when I get back pretty soon after that I have religious observances for a while which will mean I wont be on here posting. So I don’t wanna find loads of “where’s DM now?” when I’m back!

I told you all DM is José “cunt master” Mourinho.
Who cares if you’re going on holidays?
I had a 4 weeks leave from work from 13th July to 14th August, I didn’t bring that up as an excuse…..In fact I broke N5’s record of 47 posts during this period.

DM until you can break my 54, I’d say shut the fuck up!

  39. Iceman

Asked if he was confident of a signing, Wenger said: “I cannot say I am very confident because we are not close to signing anybody at the moment but the transfer market is always moving in the last five days. We work very hard. We have a team that works day and night to find good solutions. At the moment we are not close.”

    Nuff said!

  40. Chika

The treatment of the fans by the board is so unfair! They are very satisfied with Wenger’s actions/inactions. That’s where the problem lies!

  41. DM

    Bankz

You really aren’t getting that no one cares about your Sunday league record are you? I would feel sorry for you if you weren’t such an utter twat.

I’m gonna really enjoy destroying you as usual when I’m back.

  42. Carts

    Freddylekgunner

It’s a head fuck for certain players are largely disruptive to teams. Season is underway but you’ve got teams making bids for your players on the eve of important games.

If every team is given 60 days to complete all their transfers then surely that is FAIR. The issue is that the EPL finishes before most other leagues and starts at least 2 weeks before the other major league which again create a scheduling problem and could just as well fuck up Madrid’s preparation for El Classico or something like that

  43. Robin van Bergkamp

    @Vicky

Wenger and his team work very hard day and night and come up with nothing just shows how incompetent they all are and this is the man who draws a near-on £8m salary each year. Very poor return on investment I would say. #WengerOUTOUTOUT

  44. Chika

I find it laughable when certain people claim Wenger is not accountable…LoL
Of course Wenger is accountable, that’s why he’s well paid and under no pressure from his bosses. If his employers don’t find him accountable, he’d be long gone. I refuse to dwell on the manager. The blame lies with the board for accepting Top4 and not being trophy oriented. Wenger is only doing their bidding. #KroenkeOut

  45. fell

“We work very hard. Have a team that works day and night to find good solutions. At the moment we are not close. I am involved of course in the decision, I am available 24 hours a day.”

We’ve heard this every transfer window from Arsene but here exclusively we bring you a secret picture from the inner workings of the Transfer PolicUnit at the Emirates

  46. Cesc Appeal

Didn’t Wenger say he hasn’t take a holiday this year to work on things all summer?

Maybe he should have because didn’t we get most all of our deals done last summer when he wasn’t ‘in the office.’ Even down to Welbeck when he decided he was off to referee a charity match in Italy.

Unless he meant to work on the football side of things…

I’m not sure which is more laughable at present.

  47. blsany

    Arsenal who cares?
I’ve been watching that Schweinsteiger pass for Herrera goal on repeat. Brilliant vision.Oh my days!!Who cares if he can only play 30 minutes for 6.5 million should have been here.Bastian is the man.Sign him up Arsene LOl

  48. Arsene's Nurse

Wenger also confirmed that both Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny could miss Saturday’s match against Newcastle after both were also absent for Monday’s 0-0 draw against Liverpool.

“Mertesacker is still sick and Koscielny will have a test on his back – the least likely to be fit is Mertesacker,” said Wenger. “Welbeck will be available if all goes well after the international break. Jack Wilshere is one week behind that and can certainly come back into full training after the international break.”

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/11827574/Arsenal-transfer-news-We-are-working-day-and-night-to-sign-world-class-striker-says-Arsene-Wenger.html

Could be interesting. Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing Chambers and Gabriel again just to see if they improve or a ragged bag of nerves!

  49. Biggus

    Vicky,

“Wenger says he and his team are working day and night.

I am not sure what for ?”

You underestimate how hard it is to keep a straight face with all those excuses. I believe they work hard at the excuses and how Wenger can keep a straight face when he spills things like if Sanogo was a £50 million player and the rest of his spill. It’s not as easy as you guys think..

  50. Oh Theo Theo!

    Sigh…

Another day – more complete BS from the deranged Frenchman….

    Chelsea chasing stones and pogba….

Man City about to land De Bruyne

And still the whole Arsenal recruitment infrastructure cannot find one player who is actually available….

Please please please just leave and take your terrible excuses with you….

  51. Iceman

Imagine waking up in a world where everything you say is right. Everything you do is unquestioned. Every mistake you make didn’t happen. Every day appears just like the last, except you are much richer spiritually, mentally and financially.

    Please choose your appropriate character:

    * Arsenal Manager.
    * Prime Minister.
    * Dynamo.

  52. Arsend nose best

The noose hast been placed around the skinny necked cunt, the drummers have started the drum roll, just waiting now to kick the counting thing from under his feet, CUNT!!!!!!

  53. blsany

Not to come off as prejudiced but only Croatian players are worth signing from former east Europe.Croatia will win the Euro’s 2016 heard it here first!

  54. Arsene nose best

The noose hast been placed around the skinny necked cunt, the drummers have started the drum roll, just waiting now to kick the counting thing from under his feet, CUNT!!!!!!!!.

Group of death in the CL, out the league cup, there was no chance of winning the league in the first place, then u got the fa cup, no chance of winning that again. What’s left….

  56. TitsMcGee

Kokorin would be another average player added to a squad that is collectively average. Don’t see how that helps us in any way.

I’ve said it before but it’s almost like Wenger is trying to not compete for the league.

  57. Gunner2301

Typical Wenger hypocrisy. How many times has Wenger rocked up late in the transfer window to try snap up a bargain? He’s a cunt of the highest order. In principle he should be doing his business before pre-season. He’s really fucking with the fans heads and they let him. Loooooooool

  58. Mickey G

We’very very few injuries at the moment. Only one player was involved in a summer tournament. We haven’t sold a first time player in years. What excuses are left for Wenger? Apart from “I can’t think what else to do.. Fergie has his horses, I have nothing”. No excuse other than fear of retirement.

  59. Cesc Appeal

I think we’d have to give Wenger points for sheer ‘bantz’ if he signed Kokorin.

Going on all summer about not being able to find ‘super quality,’ suddenly finds it after coming under pressure in the shape of an average Russian forward.

  60. Bamford10

    Wenger is such a twat.

He is “available 24 hours a day” for transfer dealings, he tells us. What does this even mean? It means either (i) he still struggles with the English language despite 20 years in England, (ii) he misunderstands how transfer dealings work, or (iii) his approach to this window has been passive and devoid of any real plan.

It’s the latter, of course. (Sir Chips: “When Wenger doesn’t have a plan …”)

Abject failure is the only way we’ll get any change at the club. This has become clear to me.

As for the CL draw, I’d like to face teams we haven’t faced in some time and teams which don’t allow for the usual excuses. My preferred three are:

    Juventus or PSG
    Sevilla or Roma
    Gladbach or Wolfsburg

    Banks

Calm down, mate. I think you’re taking this first-person-to-post thing a little too seriously.

  61. Mo

I still expect something to get pushed thorough on deadline day, only because….well I don’t know why actually 😀 It’ll probably be Kim Kallstrom though. “He is already familiar with the club and a player of great quality, he can score penalties, and when his back isn’t broken he can be quite efficient. He will be ready to play in 3 weeks, he just broke his back getting out of the taxi, but we think it’s not too serious”

  62. Cesc Appeal

The wording ‘available’ is strange though.

I don’t think Wenger understands pro-activity in the slightest, I think, he thinks that the window works with someone coming up to you offering you a player.

The way he talks, ‘available 24 hours,’ sounds like a hotel concierge. ‘I’m here if you want me, but if not cool, I will just sit here updating my second life file.’

  63. N1GOONER

Wenger cannot handle the increased rates of inflation in European transfers, the soaring fees paid just send him into cold sweats and he pulls the plug immediately.

  64. blsany

Looks like No Mert no KOz again.I think Marko made the point that they both might have a long term injury that’ll come out once the TW is closed. What an absolute prick can’t even look after the players he has already. If chambers fucks up again he must go out on loan.Seriously another season filed under” progress”.

  65. Bamford10

    Cesc

Agreed. “Available” is a curious word. Clearly his approach is passive and devoid of any real plan, save, “maybe last minute there will be movement we can take advantage of”.

    Wenger out.

  66. Chika

The manager is the easy target.
    Let’s pretend we don’t have a board.
We choose to direct our anger at an employee who has a dream job.

“Wenger is he c*nt, he has too much power at the club” errm who allowed him such “powers”?!

  67. Bamford10

Video of Walcott and Arteta taking “dizzy penalties” making the rounds on Twitter. Am I the only supporter who is tired of average players and childish, un-serious behavior? Am I the only supporter who finds this video/behavior idiotic and tone-deaf?

    I don’t think so.

  68. Gunner2301

Wenger and his team are working night and day to come up with a better menu for the canteen and a more competitive catering contract.

What else could he be doing?

  69. Danish Gooner

Not physically ready, i almost choked on my coffee when i heard his latest lame excuse for us not perfroming yet again at the start of a season,If they are not physically drained because of a world cup, they are physically under prepared,Mr Wenger there is no cohesion in what you are saying…

  70. TitsMcGee

Video of Walcott and Arteta taking “dizzy penalties” making the rounds on Twitter. ”

Enabled all by the French joke.

    140k a week for a role player.

Captains Armband to a player that is bang average and doesn’t even start.

Not signing a DM because he wants to protect Coq.

Wants to give Giroud his chance.

    Favoritism all around.

Wenger is flawed in so many ways yet AFC fans sit back n accept it.

  71. Danish Gooner

In the days of twitter and instagram this is a way of promoting yourself and it is sickening, the self love these players are showing, earning a kings ransome and underperforming game after game, they should be stuck at London Colney and thier car keys taken away and then they should spend an entire afternoon training cohesion and set pieces.

  72. DM

    5 days to go.

Lars Bender – £23m. They should sell at that price, and whether he’s worth it or not is irrelevant, we need him and can afford it.

    Aubameyang – £32m. As above.

    DO IT WENGER (yeh right)

  73. Matt

Some great posts on here today summarising Wenger perfectly!

You can be 100% sure that if we had taken 9, or even 7 points from our first three games, he wouldnt even be considering making anymore signings. He is so reactionary that it beggers belief.

  74. Danish Gooner

i am so sick and tired of this whole she bang, finally after the demolition of Aston Villa i was upbeat about our season and then it is the same shit all over again,WENGER OUT, the sooner the better.

  75. warchester

prediction for newcastle guys? chambers going to have a nightmare again…what I don’t understand is why not chambers on loan instead of hayden…a much more steadfast player

The thing I dislike at this time of year is the way Wenger talks to fans as if they are idiots, ‘I work day and night,’ well you don’t mate, quite obviously, either that or you are just terrible at your job.

The way he pontificates on anything and everything in the world of football when he himself is an average employee really managing to hit his most basic target annually.

  77. Danish Gooner

Giroud and Walcott earn almost 300 thousands pounds in one week and exactly what are they doing for this money ??????? Giroud is a plank and no better then your Kaba Diawara your Christopher Wreh,Francis jeffers etc.Walcott have zero football brain and very often runs around like a headless chicken and his touch is second rate.

  78. naijagunner

“Could be interesting. Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing Chambers and Gabriel again just to see if they improve or a ragged bag of nerves!”

Arsene’s Nurse , i personally was hoping to see both of them together again . I still have faith in chambers , he is just going through a rough patch,

  79. Danish Gooner

Look, Chelsea are about to sell Willian or Oscar to finanze Pogba and Stones,Cuadrado got the hive hoo after a very disappointing six months, would Arsene ever contemplate that with underperforming ozil,we could get 33 mil for ozil and then we could afford pogba and real qualidee striker but he drones on and on and on refusing to understand that ozil will never make in the pl,he is as bad a signing as Shevchenko was at Chavski.

  80. SpanishDave

Next week Wenger will be off on deadline day playing football with the Pope.
Then Our beloved CEO can sneak out and buy some crap player like last year.
    Our club is embarrassing
Stan doesn’t give a shit look at that lovely bottom line.

  81. Relieable Sauce

Wengers “We will act if some super quality becomes available” says it all.
We are not pursuing targets at all, just waiting for a random player that might or might not happen.
Pathetic attitude for a manager to have to a TW, he cannot build a title challenging team, that much is painfully obvious.

The self declared incompetance must be embarassing for wenger & co…unless its ignorance rather than incompetance. Either way they’re oblivious to the clubs shortcomings & cant/wont address the problems.

    Jobs for Wenger:

-African talent scout for Ramseys model agency.

  82. WrightIsGod

“Wenger should put some skin in the game. If he’s confident this squad will win the league, he should say, ‘If I don’t at least form a credible challenge this season, I’ll when my deal is done’”

A fear to fail – in his own words. Can’t stand the man.

  83. DM

    Danish Gooner

You epitomise the problem with some of our fans. Instead of speaking sense, simply saying that we need a world class striker rather than someone who tries his best, has his strengths but isn’t world class (which would be a fair opinion), you say that Giroud is no better than Francis Jeffers. As such, nothing you say can be taken seriously in the slightest.

  84. #WAHT

“The way he talks, ‘available 24 hours,’ sounds like a hotel concierge.”

That … that is it. Well done. Sums it all up perfectly.

It’s just the BS I hate. Just tell us no one is coming, or come to the press conf and say outright we aren’t in for whoever or in whatever positions.

“We hope to sign more, but we aren’t close.” Just why? Have us all hanging on to see on deadline day that everyone went home at 3PM. ARGH!

  85. DM

    WengerEagle

Mate it’s all from his side. When I win I hardly say anything about him, but on the rare day he gets it he calls me all sorts of shit. Tbh I do it for a laugh and never took it seriously other than it’s fun to do, but he is becoming a bit of a knobhead.

  86. WrightIsGod

After the Kallstrom transfer he should have been lynched…. 2 seasons later…..

The man has cost us more league titles than he has won for us. Do the math. A sad decline of his own making.

  87. salparadisenyc

The Cossack marksman makes total sense to me with Wenger in mind.

Could of picked 300 players the world over and I doubt we’d of ever landed on the name Alexander Kokorin.

    Bantz signing to the core.

  88. Cesc Appeal

For Newcastle I think I’d go with a Bellerin, Debuchy, Gabriel, Monreal back line. We really cannot afford to keep dropping points…already I know…but I wouldn’t bank on Chambers again just to make a point.

Need to loan him out I think, still think he will be a good CB.

  89. Cesc Appeal

    Naija

But Wenger appointed his own CEO, he was on the panel that appointed Gazidis. You could blame him for taking that job I suppose because from the interview it’s clear where the power would lay.

  90. salparadisenyc

    Eagle

I’ve little doubt fatty’s not reading right now… he’ll appear soon.
Last conversation I had with him was my saying I doubt Wenger signs anyone, , Cech included this summer.

Keyser said I hope you’re right.

  91. GunnerInNY

Reading through comment after comment about Wenger’s ineptitude in the transfer window, it occurred to me thst maybe he is intentionally doing nothing to divert attention away from his ineptitude in picking and preparing the team each week. Nobody on Le Grove is talking about those things. Wenger’s strategy is working.

The man is so far past it, it is baffling he still has a job. Then again, when you realize who the owner is, it makes total sense Wenger is allowed to stay.

As an Arsenal supporter, I am angry.

Was a little amusing at first but the trading of insults has made it kind of weird now tbh.

Bankz is the worse offender though, can see that.

Just go back to it being a bit of light-hearted fun, will admit that it’s never been my cup of tea and I usually skip the first 20-30 comments but a lot on here do enjoy it.

  93. vicky

If Jose is willing to let go of Ramires and Oscar for Pogba, what stops us from offering Ramsey and Walcott to Juventus ?

    Walcott – a bench player

    Ramsey – a forced starter !!

Spot on. Idiotic comments to compare Giroud to Wreh or Jeffers. All the whole “we could get blah, blah, blah for Ozil” How do you know? do you represent a football club? Or are you just making it up and believing every single thing that the press prints? Complete nonsense. The type of stupid fan, who if we did sign Pogba or Messi, and they had ONE bad game, would blame Wenger.

    Oh, and WENGER OUT!!

  95. WengerEagle

    Sal

I bet that he’s just sulking because we didn’t re-sign Diaby and that we’ve looaned out Sanogo.

Yeah haha I remember him saying that, hopefully he pops his head in on Transfer Deadline Day to let us know we’re all a pack of fuckwits.

  96. DM

    WengerEagle

Agreed mate, I would prefer it to be lighthearted banter. I tend to congratulate other people when they get there ahead of me. But if someone says shit about me then I’m gonna give as good as I get.. Hopefully it’ll be a little more relaxed from now on!

  97. Goondawg

Wenger’s comments about how it might be better to go out the CL, so you can go further in the Premier league, because before you could afford to rest your players in the Premier league for the more important CL, but you are not afforded that luxury now. This just tells me he is hell-bent on not rotating his players this year, AGAIN. And we will face our customary injury slump to key players when the games start coming in thick and fast

  98. Cesc Appeal

Transfer speculation has become irrelevant, it’s clear Wenger doesn’t have the stones to exist at the top level, unless a deal is presented to him, with very little competition, or competition he can easily out muscle we won’t get involved.

We need a new manager, that really is the end of it. A new manager and simultaneously a change in the set up of the club, you can’t have the latter without doing the former.

A DoF and a new manager, please, pretty please.

  99. WengerEagle

    Goondawg

I doubt that it even bothers him that he’s the only ‘elite’ manager around that has never won the Champions League.

If he was in any way ambitious, it should bother him.

Then again wasn’t he quoted as saying that he’d happily finish 2nd, 20 years in a row or something along those lines?

  100. naijagunner

    @ Cesc Appeal

Then Ivan should really keep quiet as should the rest of the board . Any reasonable football board will ask for a list of transfer targets and present the signed players to the manager . Not give interviews about being able to afford any player under the sun and aspiring to be like Bayern when they know it’s all hot air.
If Wenger is not pleasing his paymasters he would not be in a job .
I will stand corrected the day we change managers and he is given a “fortune” to spend . Till then i will not heap all my frustrations on a 65 year old man who albeit stubborn has never given ,me a reason to believe he has anything else but good intentions for Arsenal football club.

  101. Cesc Appeal

    Naija

I think you’re a little naive there, but fair enough, I think it’s been thoroughly explained on here but you are entitled you to your opinion, I can’t be bothered to go over it all again. If you want to blame the board over Wenger that is your prerogative.

  102. Il avataro di Napoli

    Excellent post Pete….

Smelling like wet dogs on the Tube hey!

Only real Londoners (Gooners) would understand that mate, not faux fans like the Post Code Boy and his Yankee boys

BTW Goonersaurus has quicker feet than the fop Giroud!

  103. naijagunner

    @ Cesc Appeal

So what has the board done exactly to convince you the manager is holding them back ??

Kroenke owns other sports establishments …what is the state of those teams ??

if the board really wanted to be like Bayern..Wenger would be out of a job and we won’t have spent the last ten years discussing his stubbornness, arrogance or whatever adjective is in vogue

  104. Marky G.

This quote from Wenger sums it all up…

The main European transfer periods also end the day before and Wenger believes there is a benefit to that for him.

He added: “On the last day, we will be the only ones on the market and not face any competition with the others.”

  105. vicky

    Naija

Arsene makes all the footballing decisions at Arsenal. Of course he decides the players we should sign and rightly so. But unfortunately, he also decides what transfer fee should be paid for a player. Did he not say he could not sign hazard for a couple of millions pound ? Wenger has a valuation in mind for all the players and he generally does not budge from his own valuations even if it meant we failed to sign a player. May be the negotiation team decides the wages to be paid but it’s often the signing fee which has been the bone of contention. Let us not blame the negotiation team.

Like your line ups v Newcastle but how reliable is Debauchery as Cb.Has featured there for us or Lille or New castle? On Wikipedia it says he started out as CDM maybe Arsene is gonna use him there this season.

“Only real Londoners (Gooners) would understand that mate, not faux fans like the Post Code Boy and his Yankee boys”

I get it, it only rains in London.

Been over this year in year out, I cannot be bothered any more, if you want to excuse Wenger great, but that’s your look out.

Gazidis for me has almost no blame, the two men responsible are Kroenke and Wenger, Wenger in the main and Kroenke passively for being hands off and happy to invest the substantial amount of power at Arsenal in Wenger because of his low risk, low ambition high profit style of management.

Wenger is almost Gazidis’ boss, as is Kroenke, Gazidis is a bean counter, a money man, a commercial’s man…Wenger is the football.

Really try and imagine your Gazidis, Wenger was part of the team that appointed you, he’s been at Arsenal for near 20 years, you came over from the MLS and your life is commercials…you going to tell this guy who to buy?

Who do you think Kroenke would get rid of first?

And that is the problem, power is centralised at Wenger and around him are a load of yes men with no football knowledge.

But that is how Kroenke built it, and that us how Wenger built it and likes it.

No sympathy, our transfer malaise is Wenger’s fault and Kroenke’s in a more passive fashion.

    Blsany

I think Debuchy is a better option than Chambers there right now, I can’t remember whether it was pre-season, or a cup game or something Debuchy played there but he looked ok.

It’s not ideal, but then we have Arsene Wenger in charge, nothing is ever ideal.
