Arteta, Pedro, RVP and fish

by .

Achtung! Alex here with a quick post as I am late for work.

Arteta has reportedly signed a one year contract extension. Is this a good thing? Well he’s been a good player for Arsenal, despite his injury-ridden campaign last season, and his positioning and passing are fantastic. But he just doesn’t have the pace or tenacity to play the holding role in the big games anymore. I think it was Dortmund away last year where his shortcomings were painfully exposed. Personally I’d be happy for him to stay on as third choice DM on the proviso that a) Flamini is fired into the sun and b) we sign either Schniederlin or Vidal right now (yes I’m now a Vidal fanboy after watching him for five minutes on youtube).

The Pedro rumours are resurfacing, and no not those ones about the erstwhile host of this site and his unusual paraphilia involving fish, the winger from Barcelona. Apparently he has rejected our interest which almost certainly wasn’t there in the first place. Well done mate, you’ve rejected NOTHING.

Finally these RVP to Fenerbache rumours just won’t go away. I don’t know why this story makes me so happy, perhaps because it vindicates what many Arsenal fans felt at the time – you swapped your loyalty for gold (albeit only one trophy) and now you’re being repaid with a lack of loyalty from United. Dropped from the team and binned off to Turkey. You could imagine if he had stayed at Arsenal, not only would he be a club legend, Wenger would have continued to support him through his injuries and given him time to find his form. Maybe I sound sentimental, and I certainly don’t buy into the idea that players shouldn’t move for more ££, but there was something so cowardly about the way he behaved, issuing a statement criticising the club that he captained, and then moving to our bitterest rivals. I hope he ends up in some backwater club in Qatar with lots and lots of cash texting Sagna and Theo Walcott asking when they are going to come out and visit cos he’s a got a really cool pool, and honestly its really good fun out there…

On a final note, I usually like to use this blog for good rather than evil, however I’d really appreciate if you could follow my friend @lizzrobs – please tweet at her the title of your favourite Disney film. She doesn’t have many followers so I thought I’d give her a boost.

You can follow me @aldo_doel but please no Disney films. Have a great day! x

Thomas Muller apparently had a fall-out with Pep in training. Man Utd citcling, would love him at Arsenal

“The amount of rubbish that gets invented and recycled on this site to slag off the club, the manager or the players is ridiculous.”
    __________
This is rubbish…. people are just expressing their opinions doesn’t make them any more or less of a fan.

Leeds wasn’t slagging off anything. It was his opinion.

He can fight his own battles mate. Please don’t do what he does. He’s the one who sticks his nose in where it isn’t needed.

He had the never to jump on me because I disagreed with Leeds. No bad language, no insults, just disagreed. So he acted like the moderator and was rude.

Mid may be a nice guy but if he is going to act like the self appointed sheriff on here he needs to be even handed. If he feels it necessary to ‘tell me off’ for having the nerve to disagree with Leeds, he can hardly sit there with his head up his fat arse when Bamford starts throwing insults out like confetti.

    Its called being a hypocrite.

You quote my comment to Leeds. Please point out where I swore at him or called him a name?

Now, go compare that to what Bamford said. I quote: “Go Fuck yourself you moron”.

    How is that the same????

You know you were being a hypocrite. If you are a nice guy, have the good grace to acknowledge you were wrong and your idea of moderation was a bit one sided.

  5. Thank you and goodnight

    @Nasri’s Mouth.

Personally I think coq has shown there’s more to his game including his passes forward than he’s given credit for. Granted he’s not Zidane’esque, but your opinion of Arteta and his passing abilities has been gleaned watching him over 3 years of 1st team football. Le coq has only had 6 months of 1st team football. Let’s give him a full season before judging his passing skills, as if he continues to improve week on week like last season I honestly think some people will be pleasantly surprised.

  6. Nasri's Mouth

TYAG: Le coq has only had 6 months of 1st team football

Yeah, and please don’t think I’m being harsh on him, because I too think there’s more to come.

Part of why his game never clicked before, seems to be because he tried to do too much and overcomplicated things. There was an interview with Wenger about him, of which the crux was that Wenger told him to concentrate on the basics.
So far, we need Cazorla in the middle next to him, because his possession game isn’t too hot. He can do it, against Villa in the final he was putting short and long passes in, going past people, putting his foot on the ball etc.etc. It’s whether he can replicate that every week. If he can, we have the compete midfielder.
The trick is to do it without becoming Alex Song

  7. Redtruth

Wenger treats Arsenal like a convalescent home keeping and persisting with players like Diaby, Rosicky, Wilshere, Arteta, Walcott, the Ox and Ramsey at the expense of team success.

    Willow-
I’ve been called worse then that. …my point is Bamford isn’t trying to tell everyone what and what’s not a correct opinion to be a fan. Again, I wasn’t moderating, only pointing out you said you don’t do gangs and bullying but you chose to join Le Prof in picking out Leeds who has been here a long time and generally is open to debate.
If I had the ability to moderate. .. let’s just say, things would probably be different. Maybe I’ll start my own blog. Midwest Tourist.

  9. Thank you and goodnight

    @Willow

Yes your right. I pulled up Bamford about that as these days their seems to be quite a bit more bitchyness than Normal. But end of the day why carry it on? He responded to you because he was corresponding with you wether he jumped in or not. Whereas he wasn’t corresponding with Bamford. If you disagree just ignore him.

Fair comment, LeCoq did well in that role for the French U17 team that won the European Championships. He has done well in that DM role and with more games and experience will only get better in all areas.

I did not join Le prof, lets get that right. I commented in my own right. I did not reach for any of the language your mate did. I am not interested in joining childish gangs on this blog.

I assume everyone on here is an adult? So why do you consider yourself the moderator?

Get off my back mate, okay and lets end it there.

  12. Leedsgunner

If there is ANY chance of Thomas Müller being available we should be in there. No doubt Real Madrid would try for him as Müller probably qualifies as a Galactico but we should get our German lads on it… Isn’t he 24? We would’ve our CF position sorted for 7 years at least.

Now that, ladies and gentlemen would be a signing and a half!

  13. MidwestGun

    Willow –
Ok…. Bamford isn’t my mate any more then you are. We know some of the same people in US soccer.
You ease up on the preachyness…. I’ll ease up on your perceived moderation.
I’m only a moderator in the sense I speak my mind on what I see as reasonable, which I doubt I will stop.

  14. Relieable sauce

Muller and Sanchez is a serious ball ache for any defense.
He’ll go to a UCL contender though if he moves.
    🙁

  15. Marko

No Fucking way is Thomas Muller 24. Hasn’t he been at 3 world cups? He’s gonna break that world cup goal scoring record for sure.

  16. MidwestGun

    Lol Redtroll –
What’s a matter you not getting enough attention today?
At least, I actually enjoy football and not being a miserable troll…. but carry on if that’s your life goal.

You’ll be happy to know I’m going quite strong, been a surreal couple months with the alcohol intake following suit.

Brother and I did a bottle of Lagavulin for the old man not long ago. That felt right.

Nearly time for my pushups and sit-ups…. stares at watch.

  19. Marko

Irrelevant story though. They’d get rid of Pep before they’d get rid of him. He’s basically Mr Bayern and an absolute monster of a player. Whereas there’s always question marks over Pep staying long term cause he likes his contracts short. Muller’s a lifer

  20. vicky

Our chances of landing Mueller is very minimal but If I were Arsene, I would put a lot of energy and money in to convincing him. In that case, I would not mind signing a cheap CDM option either.

  21. MidwestGun

Hahaha if United actually sign all the players they have been linked to… they might need an exception from FFP. Or maybe they are trying to get a transfer ban so they can sign players like Barca.
    Lol. It’s like a ban……. only different.

  22. salparadisenyc

In this inflated market no chance Wenger going to pay the required to land Muller.

Agree with Marko, very little chance of Muller leaving Baynern. Read something Honigstein wrote about the dynamic of the squad with Muller being the pulse / center of the locker room.

  23. Thank you and goodnight

    @Sal

I’m sure your old man would of raised a glass or 2 looking down at you that night as well mate……

‘staring at watch’ ……… ha ha ha
a bit like me. I’ve set my alarm clock for half four in the morning for the last year or maybe longer, for the purpose of a morning run. Needless to say I haven’t been once……now you may ask ” so why constantly set your watch for half four everymorning?”…. truth be known it’s because I know it pisses off the missus especially fact I never go for a run. So some good has come out of it I suppose 😀

  24. MidwestGun

Probably more of a chance of Lewandowski then Muller leaving. Like Marko said … they probably already have the statue of Muller in production at Bayern.

  25. Redtruth

    Midwurst

Your excuse for Aguero being taken off in the Semi-Final was fatigue so what was the reason for Aguero being taken off in the Final, it could not of been for fatigue as he hardly broke sweat.

  26. El Tel 1

Muller is one of my favourite players.

He is no technical genius but finds gaps all over the pitch better than anyone.

He scores lots of goals and works like a trooper.

Oil will cream his pants if we ever got Muller on board.

  27. Relieable sauce

Muller doesnt strike me as an Anglophile though.

Contract leaverage you would think, deserves a monster tbf & it could prove problematic with what must already be, a very hefty wage bill at BM.

I think it’s obvious that they wanted Higuain to take pk’s…. lol

Anyhow, it was a bad decision as Aguero most likely knocks in that tap in at the end. Seriously tho, why the obsession with Argentina? Im happy as hell Chile won? You obviously were ….. like a giddy little kid after the . match

Also, are you German? Wasn’t your greatest player ever. … Gerd Muller or something

Who would have thought Ozil would leave RM and join us ?

And thats just it, I remember we debated Ozil around this time the summer of 2013 and nobody ever thought that would come off. Was more a pining about how great he’d be with little reality attached.

Madrid did there pre season in LA and Ozil looked quite secure. Then boom the glimmer twins pulled it at the death. Just a ridiculous signing if you look at the context.

Curious to see whom see the door this summer in Madrid.

  32. kwik fit

I’m hearing that a big offer has gone in for Lacazette from an premier league club. Could be us.

  33. Marko

Isco ain’t leaving. Tbh I don’t see many leaving Madrid except possibly Benz. Big player wise anyway. Casillas and Coentrao and Lucas Silva on loan will be off

Think Isco has to be in Rafa’s plans, he just to good with far to much ahead of him to sell. With Casillas out, Illarmendi likely goes and that could be it. Maybe Ramos but does sound like he’s positioning for better contract.

De Gea the only galactico after a fruitless campaign?

Perez has something up his sleeve.

    Aguero or Lewandowski?

  38. azed

Why exactly is red Ruth against messi ? Let’s just get to the bottom of this …

He was thrown out of his mama’s basement because he used the gas money on a football bet and Messi did his magic.

  39. Wallace

Müller would be very tempting. prefer my players gifted as f*ck, but watching the WC Final when Germany for a spell were having a hard time of it and Argentina were getting a bit dirty and Müller was an absolute warrior. battling for everything. totally revised my opinion of him.

that said, it was only a few verbals exchanged with Guardiola. sure that kind of stuff occurs about 6 times a day every day in training.

Dreaming about Thomas Müller in an Arsenal shirt… just gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

Wouldn’t it be THE FUNNIEST thing if we acquired Müller for £50m whilst Man City got Sterling for the same amount?

I know I know, never going to happen. I reckon £50m probably be the starting point though.

vicky — Hm, must be because the news is now that Pogba won’t join (this year).

Speaking of PSG players though, how about Pastore? Looked fantastic at the Copa.

  47. MidwestGun

I think Pastore would be more of a Ramsey backup. Thought he lacked a bit of creativity and skill in getting Messi the ball in space and linking up play. However if signing an Argentine player causes Redtroll to finally lose
His last grip on reality. ….. I’m all for it.
    🙂

  48. kwik fit

Ramos had no intention of leaving his beloved Madrid. I think he would struggle in the Premier league and he probably knew that himself. I always thought he was overrated. Playing with a Spanish team who didn’t need defenders.

  49. Cesc Appeal

That’s what I think, thankfully United have Van Gaal and City have Pellegrini, those two will hold their clubs back.

I think there’s some similarities between those two and Wenger, it was a geordie fan who first made me see it after we beat City away on this YouTube channel I stumbled onto looking for highlights. ‘Two stubborn c**t managers’ he said…pretty accurate.

All three of them, I’m doing it my way, Pellegrini with his 4-4-2 regardless, Wenger with his 4-1-4-1 and shoehorning regardless and Van Gaal just being Van Gaal.

  50. salparadisenyc

To be fair reds seems a hybrid to me. Goes all Ziggy Stardust w/ a bit of Bangkok thrown in for good measure.

Guess that could be defined as a fluid working environment.

    In fact:

    Müller unsettled?

    ……………………Cech………
    Debuchy–Mert–Koss–Monreal
    ………Coq–Schneiderlin………..
    Walcott–Ozil–Sanchez
    …………………Müller……………..

  52. vicky

Well, Pastore is a bit like Ben Arfa, isn’t he ? …….when on song, quite a player, unfortunately for him, he flatters to deceive most of the time. Would not come cheap either.

  53. kwik fit

Apparently Wenger wants Pedro as our new Number 9 . From a reasonable legit source. ( NB Not Pete Wood)

  54. Wallace

    “Müller is INSANELY talented.”

i’m talking ability with a football. guys who came out the womb juggling a ball – Ozil, Cazorla, Jack, Rosicky…. – he hasn’t got any of that. he’s got an incredible instinct for where to be on the pitch, and he’s very intelligent, but he’s not a talented ball player.

  55. Cesc Appeal

    There was, ‘vote for Pedro.’

Now there’s ‘no to Pedro’…at least in my view anyway.

  56. kwik fit

Exactly Wallace he’s an intelligent player without being supremely talented. Mind you I wouldn’t sayno.

  57. El Tel 1

Glad lots of Le Grovers like Muller.

I would hate it if he went to the Chavs or Mancscummers.

He is the most underrated player in the world.

If you could play FM and pick only one player from each of the top 11 teams., who would they be?

  58. MidwestGun

Shhhhheeeesh if you think 2 Sams are confusing.., if we sign Pedro …. every comment will have to be qualified.
Anyhow, Barca still has to have a backup to Neymar and Suarez in case of biting or headbutting incidents.

  59. Cesc Appeal

kwik — Yeah, word is Mendes stuck his grubby nose in it. 🙁

i wasn’t trashing him. my initial post – 19:34 – i said i’d love us to be in for him. have just read the article though and basically he wasn’t trying very hard in training on Monday, Guardiola got on his case, Müller reacted badly, but all sweetness and light between them again today.

  65. vicky

Transfer rumors have picked up all of a sudden. I think Wenger is playing smart waiting for things to gather momentum and then he can sneak in at the right time. I think he would get in as soon as a top name from a top club becomes available. An Ozil kind of scenario.

I think that is the one area for me that stands out that Chelsea need to improve, the opposite flank to Hazard. Going to be tricky because Mourinho likes Willian due to his incredible work rate and defensive contribution, something he had to beat into Hazard as well.

But if Chelsea get a Griezmann type they really will look special(er) in attack.

Again…we can’t sit around talking up what we have as a club, need to be constantly improving, refreshing and adding quality.
