Conflicting Schneiderlin reports?

by .

Well happy good morning to each and every one of you beautiful souls.

Who caught Kanye last night? What a bore. Throw on a CD and one man on his own for an hour and a half. Where’s the showmanship? It’s always amusing commenting on things like music when you’re a football blogger. Online people seem incapable of recognising that you can have more than one interest in life. I saw someone Tweet… ‘if you don’t like this Kanye set, you don’t like sound’… some amazing parallels to the types of conversation I’ve had around Arsenal superstars like Denilson.

Amazing the shift in the sort of crowd that goes to Glastonbury. Never thought I’d be hearing a football like roar for Kim Kardashian at an event like that. Sad times.

What’s that? You want to hear a disgusting story? Ok, you got it…

I’m experiencing something of a shocker in my flat at the moment. My windows have broken, I had a gas leak, I had to fit a new boiler last week that came with complications… then yesterday morning I had a note from my neighbour that there was a leak and I’d destroyed her electrics. Sweet I thought, can’t wait for that bill. So anyway, I live in an ex-council flat, the bathroom is a bodge job, it’s disgusting and everything is weirdly boxed in. So I look for the leak, I open the box that the sink sits on. Nothing. Go round the back of the toilet, nothing. Then I wonder what’s in the box for the bath… so I chisel open the tile, open it up… and it’s a f*cking pass through for rats!

It looked like 50 of them had been hanging out there having a rave to Kanye’s set.

So in short… ALWAYS check inside boxes.

BIG news in football. The women’s team made it to the semi final of the Women’s World Cup. HOORAY FOR THEM. That’s about the most impressive thing to happen in English international football for a generation. They beat the hosts, Canada… which is always tough considering they are the hosts.

Word on the street his Chezzer has decided to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place, rather than leave for pastures new.

Now, call me a cynical Kanye hating bastard here, but I’d probably say this has less to do about football and more about that rumoured £100k a week contract. Because look… you’ve been displaced by Ospina pretty categorically who has in turn been replaced by Petr Cech pretty brutally. Now you’re telling me you’d even bother trying to displace him? A man who is so good he brings his own keeping coach?

No chance. I fear we’ve got a deadwood situation. It’s not even a socialist wage structure issue, it’s just a contract mistake. He’s paid a fortune considering he didn’t really deliver too much.

It’s interesting reading some of the Arsenal stats people dishing out disappointment at his demise. This is where I kind of feel that sports data at a consumer level is always pretty shite.

People deal in observations, rather than insights. So people will say that Chezzer won the golden glove, which is an observation, but it doesn’t really reveal much ab0ut his performances, because for me, it said more about the defence than it did him. Same with Ospina, if you observed his stats, he looked great… but if you observed him, you could see he’s a car crash waiting to happen.

I guess when Wenger talks about the human element in football, he’s talking about that. You do, even with the most robust systems, always need human input to make sure what’s going on is right… because it doesn’t matter how good your system for decision making is (and look at some of the financial market fails of recent times), all it takes is a couple of things to change and you can find yourself heading down a rabbit hole of wrongness. I guess that’s why these sports data companies usually have a specialist that works with the clubs.

So I’m not saying data isn’t absolutely key to a smarter approach, I’m just saying that amateur statisticians are just that… picking out a singular observations without supporting collateral isn’t the basis for a robust debate. Don’t be shut down by the singular stat… jeez, feel like I’ve just started a movement?

The Guardian reckon we’re going to be trumped for Morgan Schneiderlin because United can offer more and pay him bigger wages. Well, if that’s what attracts him to United, then maybe he’s not quite right. I mean, the squad we have at Arsenal is way more impressive, he’d fit in perfectly, he’d not need to move too far from where he is and we’re more likely to challenge… I’ve also been told that he wants Arsenal. Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t right now? We’re a team on the rise playing a style of football you dream of.

That’s what’s exciting about next season. Think of all the players we’ll have from the start. A world class keeper, a fit Theo, Chambo, Per and Ozil. Sanchez a year into his career in the Prem. A Bellerin and Coquelin who are more settled. It really is all about that start. We have the squad and all the right ingredients in place to make it explosive.

Finally, more good news. Arsene Wenger talking about progress and learning.

‘You always have to be on top of what’s coming out new. It has developed and today I think I’m completely up to date with every aspect of the game. But now it has become so vast that you have to have personnel around you who can master some aspects of the game better than you, like the physiological aspects, the biomechanics, how to correct the movement of the player. It’s so specialised now that you need to be surrounded by a team. It’s good that you know the basics of it yourself, then you get people around you who are specialised in certain aspects of the game.’

Know this people. That above quote is major progress. That is a major shift in thinking. 2 years ago, we were not there at all. It’s exciting that he’s now embracing the new world. Also worth noting the credit he gives to his support team and the trust he’s dishing out. Really positive interview that bodes well for the season ahead! Remember him snapping at Steve Bould’s impact on the defence when he came a few  years ago? Now he’s loving it!

Right, have a great day! x

Umm why do people keep saying Vidal is only a central midfielder?. .. he’s not. Watch him play for Chile. .. you know the team with Sanchez in it… that makes him more efficient. He plays more of the Oxlade Chamberlain role. …
plays opposite Sanchez to free up space for him. The role Ramsey has done poorly for us at times. In fact, in our setup he could be an upgrade to Ox as
    Well as backup Coquelin.
    Back 5
    Coq, Santi or Ramsey
    Vidal, Ozil,Sanchez
    Welbeck or Theo.

Additionally, somebody said he will leave gaps bombing forward. Again, then you haven’t watched him play. He is responsible at Juventus for covering Pirlo’s slow ass. Pogba is the one who bombs forward.

Vidal would be a great signing. He is waaaay more versatile then just playing a btb role in competition with Ramsey or JW. Plus he has title winning experience as well as now CL experience helping his team to the finals.
Some of you should stay up late and watch the Copa America apparently as you haven’t watched Vidal, i guess.
Sounds to me like you are judging your opinions on him based in his one below average performance in the CL final which was an anomaly.

Basically, I would be very happy if the Vidal rumors are true. And i bet Sanchez and. Many of the players would be ecstatic.

I dont rate Schneiderlin i find him vastly overrrated his side kick Wanyama is twice the player and makes Schneiderlin look good.I would much rather have him or Carvalho of Sporting.

  4. Bamford10

Sure, I rate Reus and Lacazette as well, bu one, Reus isn’t a CF, and two, Lyon is talking about 45-50m for Lacazette. Now they’re not going to get that, but the market is a bit insane at moment, there aren’t that many options, and we do need to improve at CF.

And for those who say improving wide right (or wide left) is as important as improving at CF, I think this is an error. You can put Reus wide right, but as long as Giroud is still through the center our attack will be hampered. Not to mention Ox and Welbeck are good enough wide players.

  5. Inter YourGran

A lot of people bang Carvalho’s drum but i’ve not seen enough of him to garner that much of an opinion. From what i have seen in europe and the recent u21 tournament though, the estimated 28m asking price is outrageous.

You don’t pay finished article prices for works in progress.

  6. Bamford10

We can probably drop the Schneiderlin conversation as it seems he’s headed to United. His play there next year will settle questions re whether he (i) is/was equal to or better than Coquelin, (ii) would’ve improved us or (iii) would’ve been worth 25m.

I think he’ll show that the answer to these three q’s is/was ‘yes’, but that’s just my opinion.

  7. Emmanuel

Let’s sign Pedro of barcelona and shift Theo to city. If Vidal comes, maybe Wenger will sell one of the midfielders

  8. Inter YourGran

I get the feeling looking at the squad i posted the striking options probably look the weakest in the squad, but that down to your fifa and championship manager fantasy.

I’ll stick my neck out and say if walcott signs, him and welbeck might just surprise a lot of people and bang next season, weighing in with 33-38 goals between them.

  9. Wenger's Plastic Bottle

Schneiderlin will be under a lot of pressure at United not as much as if he came to Arsenal he wil be expected to hit the ground running.

  10. Cesc Appeal

Was it you previously who had said about Vidal at RM? Sorry I gave credit to RP or WE, don’t want the great Jack of the Daniels to wield his axe against me.

But I agree, Vidal can play literally anywhere you want him in the midfield, perfect player to have in the squad, and yet another ‘been there done that’ player along with Ozil, Sanchez and Cech in the dressing room.

  11. Inter YourGran

WPB – Schniderlin’s a strange united singing as he more or less does what blind does in the middle of the park with albeit, slightly more aggression.

United look very vulnerable on the counter as they’ve no presence in front of the back 4. They have more work to do on their squad for a title tilt than us.

  12. MidwestGun

    Cesc –
Haha probably. .Obviously, I like Vidal. But people are making stuff up like he’s basically Ramsey.
Maybe, it’s the time zone or maybe because I watch waaay too much Serie A. Lol. But I’ve seen a fair bit of him.
He has weaknesses but being Ramsey or JW isn’t one of them.
He is a bit reckless and tempremental with tackling at times and he’s had the knee surgery thing. And he’s older. But he’s playing at his peak at the moment. It really doesn’t seem like a Wenger signing. .. but maybe Sanchez got to Wenger.
And to be honest Cech doesn’t seem like a Wenger signing either. Lol

  13. mysticleaves

Anyone know how much we are paying for cech ? Under 12
mill would be a steal !!”

33 years, 1 year left? anything above 7m is a steal……albeit for Chelsea

  14. Cesc Appeal

Schneiderlin, Vidal, Carvalho, Bender whoever, a CDM/CM and then a great ST is a must and we’re away I think. Very interesting season ahead if those came off.

  15. Cesc Appeal

True. I said to a few people earlier maybe Wenger is altering his approach to now players with his departure hopefully getting closer. Foundations for the future are laid, no point in him really focusing too much on that, he needs to focus on the now and Cech and Vidal are certainly ‘now’ signings.

Still need a ST though, big time.

  16. mysticleaves

Midwest, the only two DMS I would sign are Vidal and Sergio B.

Vidal just started playing higher up the pitch 2 seasons ago . the guy is a rock solid DM

  17. Inter YourGran

    I personally don’t think there’s any strikers in europe worth the sort of money mooted for them;

    Benteke 32.5m, Lacazette, 40m, Benzema 55m, Higuain, 62m, Cavani, 55m…

20m & Wilshere for Aguero would be an interesting play. Other than that,

    Bacca 25m, Llorente, 15m, Adriano 10m, Negredo 15m….

There’s literally nothing out there right now.

Juve have done very, very well with Dybala & Morata as their strikers. Throw in Pogba and they are sitting on £250m, easy!

  18. Cesc Appeal

No great ST, no title. Simple as that in my opinion, what we have is good, but good isn’t good enough.

  19. MidwestGun

Also Vidal is an excellent crosser and can take corners as well as freekicks.
And he can shoot from distance. As well as he’s a better then good penalty kick taker.

Unless, Theo is gonna take corners again. Lol. It’s a nice option to have so Santi and Ozil don’t have to take them all.

  20. Marko

Heard that Rahman Baba is supposed to be hot shit that we’re linked to. Certainly have options for when Monreal or Gibbs leaves

  21. Rosicky@Arsenal

People here thinking Wenger has changed his ways and club is now run by Stan and Gazidis.

They point out that we changed our tactics at Etihad and won and now we play a defensive and counter attackong style.
This cud b true when we are away to a big team.

We played our same attacking style against Liverpool at Emirates.

We lost to Monaco at home and then Swansea again later playing our usual attacking style. If wenger has changed his style after Etihad why he cud not figure out to sit back againt Monaco at Emirates rather pkayed his usual style and gifted 3 away goals to them.

Again it happened agaisnt Swansea and we lost in the last minutes.

We won at Wembley with the same flare of old and thrash villa at Wembley away from Emirates.
If Wenger was to change why he didnt played a cup final in a cautious way.
It was same old same old Arsrnal imo.

Wenger saying it is good to have specialist in phsycology and better medical staff does that mean we are expecting whole sole changes in our back room staff?

No change as pedro and people are advocating here.

Lets see in the transfer window and see if Wenger can splash 150 million like city chelsea and united and change his ways then only i will admit Wenger has changed.

  22. Cesc Appeal

Don’t remind me of the Walcott set piece situation, wonder how long he badgered Wenger for that.

I agree, I think when Wenger does his squeeze an extra CM in routine, Vidal will play that more attacking, wider role far better than Wilshere, Ramsey, Ozil or Cazorla.

  23. mysticleaves

and also Bamford, about your Benteke, I prefer all our strikers to him. Sanogo runs him close in my books. very poor player. rather we sign Bendtner back tbh

  24. Marko

Certainly looks to me if Benzema doesn’t become available or if we couldn’t convince Lyon to part with Lacazette then it’d be likely we’d move for someone like Reus or Fekir or Draxler and roll with Giroud, Alexis and Welbeck as the striker options. Certainly good enough to challenge for me but we’ve certainly got to target someone who can get you Alexis level of goals this summer

  25. mysticleaves

the only way Benteke is a beast is because he actually looks like one. he definitely doesn’t play like one.

  26. Cesc Appeal

Come on, how can you even compare Sanogo and Benteke? I don’t rate Benteke that highly but, don’t insult the guy.

  27. Marko

People also have to remember for a lot of the big teams it’s been very quiet so far. There’s no telling how crazy it’s could get. A couple signings and a big domino effect could take place and open up possibilities not just for us

  28. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

I agree about chambers… To much to soon I think! Started well but got exposed an then left out yo dry ..

Sorry but I can’t agree on Debauchy … He was 29 when we signed him and I did not rate him when at Newcastle…

He will start as no 1 right back now…. How will that leave bellerin feeling ?

  29. salparadisenyc

Great post Monsieur Blogs, the rat part really resonates. Terrible business, had similar in NY, slash and burn I say.

From Blur to Kanye oh dear Glastonbury.

Kind of feel Vidal’s a non starter.

No idea where Wenger goes from there, always felt it would be a quiet summer. Could be Cech n out. Although I’d obviously hope for more. Wengogazidas are likely waiting for some movement.

At this stage barring Benz it’s Reus for me with Fekir in the convo.

  30. Northbanker

Some on here have watched Vidal more than me but if he has that level of flexibility then that’s great. Ozil corners have been shocking so that would help if he can take them well. So we get more than just a rotating DM which is perfect. Still convinced he s a better option than Schneiderlin, who relies on Wanyama.

  31. Northbanker

Hope now that Chile go out so Sanchez (and Vidal?) can be rested (is there a 3rd place play off?) and we get the news on Vidal earlier. If that wraps up the DM role then all resources can be ploughed into finding a WC striker.

  32. MidwestGun

As for the striker thing. .. it’s frustrating. The shelf life of a striker seems like seconds, anymore. And no decent proven strikers that aren’t on the downward leg of their career(Cavani ) or just straight up disastrous (Balotelli) are available.

So you are overpaying for potential. (Dybala and probably Lacazette) it is what it is… other then Benzema. Can we somehow get a mad scientist to combine Giroud/Welbeck and Theo into one player?
So I’m hoping that our midfield is amazing this season, basically.

  33. mysticleaves

Cesc you mean comparing Sanogo to Benteke is an insult? how so? both are players of the same ilk and skill set. what is ilk by the way? I hear people use it in the same context as above.

  34. MidwestGun

Ya.. there is a 3rd place match. Doubt Chile will lose to Peru. So at this point I want Chile to win it all. Huge confidence booster for Sanchez and perhaps Vidal.

  35. Cesc Appeal

Sanogo isn’t anywhere close to Benteke, come on. I’m with you that I think Benteke is a touch overrated, but Sanogo is a disaster, one who will be loaned out until his contract expires I think, he’s Sanogoal for a reason, isn’t comparable to anyone really.

  36. MidwestGun

    Pedro –
Impossible to get rid of rats once they are established. .., the only solution is to befriend them and turn them into trained performers.
    Pedro’s traveling Rat circus.
Maybe teach them to play football and play other rat teams. Start your own league.

  37. Cesc Appeal

‘Maybe teach them to play football and play other rat teams’

No. That’s how Spurs got started.

  38. Cesc Appeal

Wait until the rats learn how to use weapons, you will wake up with one sat on your chest caressing a lead pipe whilst another runs a small blade through your facial hair telling you there’s going to be changes around this place.

  39. mysticleaves

lol Cesc. a Lil mean on The Sir there. I agree though. bad bad player. if he comes good though i would be happy.

  40. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

Pedro sounds like the issue ain’t just bout your flat maybe you an your neighbours can get in touch with the landlords as it’s an environmental issue …
Whose council borough you fall under.. ?

  41. Cesc Appeal

Yeah he isn’t really a problem, he will go out on loan, if he comes good great, if not, we will loan him again next season and say goodbye…unless Wenger signs an extension in which case a Diabyesque contract could be on the cards for Sanogo 😉

  42. Cesc Appeal

Has Pedro ever seen the film Aliens? Get a couple of plasma rifles, couple of flame-throwers and with a mate, descend into their tunnels and find the mother rat.

  43. salparadisenyc

    Them waters are deep.

At our place in the city we had flush em out, then find the access points and concrete them shut or use this steel mesh. Lil demons can chew through nearly anything.

Nothing like drawing a warm bath wondering what that dull noise is emanating from below. In my case it was Barca vs Madrid, the cats gave up and headed for higher elevations. Mex I can stand off.

  44. Cesc Appeal

Mert should be captain if he’s still playing consistently, Cech/Kozz as vice. As well I would like to see Ramsey start getting it from time to time as well, might be future captain material there.

  45. MidwestGun

Here in the Midwest we have these massive river rats the size of large dogs.

Like Cesc Appeal said. .. you need firepower…. napalm. .. flamethrower… rocket launcher…. whatever.

Or you just train them and get a Nike sponsorship for your Rat Footballers.
    make some cash.

    only options I can see.

  46. carts

Seen a bit more of Carvalho in this u21 tourny and yesterdays drubbing of Germany. If I’m entirely honest, Silva lite (David Silva clone) is who caught my eye as well as the lad in the middle who plays for Valencia.

Sporting trying to get £30m for Carvalho is ultimate banter. He’s a £18m player at tops!!!

Bizarre goings on at Monaco means maybe a cheeky bid of £25m will prize Silva. He’ll be at Barcelona in 2 seasons

  47. Cesc Appeal

If anything Pedro go too far and destroy the whole building, I’m of the school that says you can never have too much napalm and explosive.

You could use the Skyfall trick…just saying, remedies itself.

  48. mysticleaves

having watched koss am not sure he can be an efficient captain for a top team. seems introverted to me.

  49. SomeRandomGunner

We had to play Ramsey at right wing because we cannot find a place for him in midfield. It makes no sense for Vidal to sign without Ramsey or Wilshere leaving.

May be only Cazorla is expendable mainly because of age . There is not going to be any ins without outs. Wilshere and Ramsey are at an age where they have to play or go into obscurity. I guess Wilshere could be sold if Vidal comes in.

  50. gazzap

Vidal looks and plays like a nutter. Hard as nails. But he’ll get sent off in the PL I think. we’re going to be with 10 men a few times next season! Perhaps it’s what we need though since Vieira. No one’s gonna call us a soft touch anymore.

  51. salparadisenyc

Mert starts as the captain. If he stops appearing in the staring XI and Cech has the presence many suggest, no question whom it goes to next.

Ramsay and Koz don’t need that burden imo.

  52. Cesc Appeal

Ramsey has he attitude and maturity I think going forward, I agree on Kozz not being a leader, just wonder whether he might kick off if it passes straight to Cech…though he doesn’t seem the sort.

Ramsey needs to start imposing himself a bit more and making his presence known throughout the team and we’ve got a good captain there for the future I think.

  53. MidwestGun

    Randam –
That’s because Ramsey can’t play defensive mid…. whereas Vidal can. So in some games you could actually pair Vidal with Santi or Ramsey or Jack instead of Coq. Your assuming Coq is locked in to start every match . Also Vidal can be effective from the wing, whereas Ramsey not really. And I’m pretty sure one of Ramsey, JW,or Ox /Theo will be injured this season at some point.
The outgoing might be Flamini, definitely Diaby, possibly Rosicky and Arteta.

  54. Cesc Appeal

‘And I’m pretty sure one of Ramsey, JW,or Ox /Theo will be injured this season at some point.’

    All injury prone players. Exactly.

As you say, Vidal plays anywhere in that midfield, perfect.

  55. Samuel

My god. Rosicky@arsenal moaning that we thrashed villa in the final?!

Why on earth would you have rather that we were cautious?

  56. SomeRandomGunner

@midwest I have not watched Vidal much. But one thing I know for sure is no manager rotates players as people mention in legrove . So I am going to assume there has to be one or 2 players who has to be ok with being second choice.

Currently our midfielders are Coq / Ramsey / Wilshere / Cazorla /Ozil . That is already 5 very very good midfielders for 3 positions. If you add Vidal then 6 very very good players for 3 positions. Not sure any of them will accept being a second choice. It would have been easier if Ramsey / Wilsher / Coq were 2 years younger.

It is not like we do not have options for wings also . We have Ox / Walcott/ Welbeck .

I do not see it being realistic for Vidal to come in without one or 2 of Ramsey / Wilshere / Walcott / Cazorla going out.

I dont think Wenger is going to let Ramsey or Wilshere go . May be Cazorla .

Even with the injuries we had by the end of season we had Ramsey moaning about being played in Wing and Rosicky completely frustrated.

  57. MidwestGun

    Randam –
Jack already is second choice. Santi seems like he would accept whatever role he was given. It’s not up to the players to decide. If we are winning they can moan all they want. Vidal basically has the equivalent energy of Sanchez. Imagine that in a side and add Ramsey and you can see why it would be exciting.
You should really watch Chile play.

  58. SomeRandomGunner

@Midwest Yeah players can moan all they want .
Do you you think we can become a Guardiola’s barca or Dortmund in pressing ? Pressing all over like that seems very risky strategy .

Even with Sanchez running around so much he always leaves so much gap everywhere. Agreed it would be better if the whole team did that . It is just that too risky compared to the rewards also already we have enough injuries .

  59. Marko

Absolutely don’t agree with people saying Koscielny doesn’t have captain material. Why cause he’s not a screamer? A captain puts his body on the line and is someone who puts in consistent performances and that Laurent for sure. He’s absolutely a leader

  60. MidwestGun

    Randam –
Also, Vidal has scored 11 goals last season…including copa america.
    5 as a defensive mid, 3 as a center mid,3 as Rm, 1 as a Lm.

Dude is versatile and scores goals.
Ox scored 3 goals, Welbeck scored 7 but 5 were as Cf. Theo 5 goals but only 1 as a midfielder .
You say we have options at wing… but they aren’t great at the moment.

As for pressing it’s not risky if you do it as a team. The one man pressing of Sanchez last season at times was painful to watch. Don’t think we would do it every match Anyhow as most matches we will be facing a packed defense.

  61. Marko

Are bild in Germany reliable? Have us apparently negotiating with Augsburg for Rahman Baba. They finished 5th last term and he was supposed to be brilliant

  62. Cesc Appeal

Quite simple, if Wilshere, Ramsey or whoever want to play, play better than Vidal. No more protection, no more infinite chances.

But the way Vidal operates, he won’t necessarily encroach on that CM area specifically anyway.

Again, also, once you cut past naming, how many games will Wilshere be fit for, or Ramsey. Will Wilshere finally find consistency, history says not. Should we rely on Coquelin keeping up his 2015 form for the entirety of next season and stay fit.

The reality of our midfield situation is very different to how it appears on paper.

If Vidal is available, buy him, no question at all. Better than anything we have in the central midfield area, and we want to win titles don’t we?

  63. MidwestGun

Not only that but Schneiderlin is a box to box player not unlike Ramsey or Jack. Wanyama is a defensive midfielder like Coq.

So. … in that case ya…. it would make sense to get rid of Jack.

Also Santi is our backup cam. Can he not get time for Ozil occasionally?
People making it sound like we have 6 mids for 2 spots. Not true.

Jack,Ramsey,Santi,Coq, Vidal, Ozil. 6 mids for 3 spots. That’s what you are supposed to have.

  64. MidwestGun

Well I’m off now to worship my Vidal bobble head doll,…….i keep asking him if he’s coming to Arsenal and he always vigorously shakes his head , yes!

    It’s a sign. .. I’m telling you.

  65. kwik fit

No one has yet denied it so you never know it may have legs. I’d go naked for a month if Vidal signed! He’s a real baller , just what our midfield needs.

  66. MidwestGun

    Kwik –
Ya man…. we need some more ballers with a mean streak from Chile. .. you mess with us we will stick a finger up your backside in a heartbeat!

  67. Cesc Appeal

Red Arrows keep flying over, my dog finds the nearest corner and just bolts there, hides his head. Safe to say he doesn’t appreciate the aerial acrobatics.

  68. Ozy

I might be wrong but the first news source to report Vidal to Arsenal was Metro, going off a tweet.

I don’t think there’s any truth to it.

  69. Bamford10

“Sanogo runs [Benteke] close in my book.”

One of the dumbest things ever said on here — and there have been some doozies. To say the above is to admit you haven’t the foggiest fucking clue what you’re talking about. Do everyone a favor, mate, and stop commenting on football. Seriously.

  70. dan

Vidal is a Ramsey type. Expected to defend, attack, assist and also have a free role if the opportunity arises. Ramsey is good at this role but he loses the ball and can look lost at times. Vidal would relegate him to the bench for sure. Vidal has more stamina, pass accuracy, grit and leadership qualities. Should we get Vidal, Chelsea would fear us for sure.

  71. Redtruth

If it was left to the goons on here Arsenal would drop to mid table obscurity.

The endless player speculation and the players put forward are lamentable.

  72. Bamford10

So desperate for a different CF am wondering if there is an in-house solution we haven’t thought of.

Let’s look at Ox for a moment. He’s actually a little bigger than I thought, between 5’10” and 5’11”. That’s as big as a Berahino and bigger than a Lacazette. Basically the same size as Suarez though not as thick or strong obviously. But he could build mass.

Still fairly strong, though, and around 155 pounds. Intelligent, has pace, dribbling and likes to shoot. Could run in the gaps and receive the ball at his feet. Not a clinical finisher but has the mind for it. Could become one, I think, if that were hos focus.

He would just need to work on his hold up play. That would be his initial weakness. That and being clinical. But he’s plenty skillful, plenty athletic.

What say you, Ox? What say you, Wenger?

    We could run:

Pace, skill and dribbling — all along the front three.

Just thinking outside the box here obviously.

  73. Bamford10

Whom are you putting forward, Marble? Aside from getting rid of Wenger, what are your proposals? I’m trying to think of some of the positive ideas you’ve shared with us here. Can’t think of any.

Colombia are going to whoop Argentina’s asses tomorrow

Another one of Redtruth’s many classics just like

“Man City are dominating, it won’t be long now before Palace bends over”

    Redtruth should be made king…..

  75. Marko

Jim I saw that. Only thing though is there’s been rumours since before the champions league final so it pre dates some little cunt acting tough on Twitter

  76. Jim Lahey

@Marko – The funny thing about it is how all the rags picked it up and ran with it like it was gospel. I really wonder if the media do any background research anymore before giving the green light to a story, its all so lazy!

Great song. “One in Ten” and “Breakfast in Bed” are favorites as well.
Yeah it’s a while since I’ve listened to a bit of UB40. Pedro needs to do his own version although “There’s a rat’s nest in my bathroom” doesn’t have the same catchyness. 😛

Thinking of those tunes I feel a bit old, but then again The Who are playing Glasto tonight and some of their classic tunes are nearly 50 years old!

  78. kwik fit

He certainly is a big fella 🙂

    Re Vidal

The twitter prank stuff only emanates from last night. The story of him agreeing a deal with us has been around for 2 months. Wenger was coy when asked about him pre cup final ‘he is a good player’, then a smile. You all know that smirk only wenger can muster. 😉

  79. kwik fit

I was thinking that myself Cesc. Wenger was interested before city bought him and they will be keen to offload. The problem is that he’s a bit too much like Giroud.

  80. kwik fit

Apparently, The guy that Wenger has put a 28m bid on is actually Reus. I had originally thought it was Draxler. Now 28m is fine for Drax but i’m sorry Wenger is deluded if he thinks 28m will buy reus.

  81. kwik fit

Harry Kane would be a massive gamble. Lets see how he gets on this season. I’ve seen too many Harry Kanes in the past who have one great season and then falls flat on their faces. I feel Harry could be the latter.

  82. El Tel 1

Agreed. It was supposed to be tongue in cheek.

Was so hoping the Mancscum signed the dud from Spuds.

  83. MidwestGun

The argentinian striker has been anonymous in the Copa America
Ya he anonymously scored the game winning goal against Uruguay. Put tape over the name on his shirt so as to confuse the defenders.

Add that to your list of childlike comments.

  84. Cesc Appeal

He is, still more speed than Giroud and my thinking was that Wenger try a deadline day (or close to) slap in the face bid, £15 Million or something, sort of similar to Ba in chancing his arm but not caring if it doesn’t come off.

Agree on Kane, don’t rate him as highly as the media do.

  85. MidwestGun

I would have taken Dzeko the transfer window people wanted Michu… was that the Higuain. …. year? Now. … meh. Hard to get excited about it.
Is Kane a thing….. Still? I guess Spuds are gonna play the MLS all stars wonder how he will do?

  86. kwik fit

I have heard a rumour that we could be signing Petr Cech but then again this is the crazy season when it comes to transfer speculation , so its probably bull.

  87. Marko

Kwik where’d you hear about the 28 million bid? I’d love to read it. Give me a wet dream tonight. To be honest 28 million or what 35 million euros isn’t a bad opening bid for Reus. Shows some seriousness. Could probably get him for 35 million pounds or 40 odd million euros.

  88. Cesc Appeal

I don’t mind Dzeko, I think he’s better than Giroud, for the right price it would be a decent acquisition, not exactly making my penis tingle but…leave that to Sanchez 😉
