ZLATAN

Those are the rumours swilling around the internet this morning. I have no idea where it’s come from, but it’s a pretty crazy rumour.

He’s a legend and he wins major honours wherever he is, just not sure at his age (33), he’s really suited the league. He’d be great fun though. He’s an outrageous talent, just think he was more relevant 5 years ago. Still, he could be our Henrik Larsson? He’d be a great teacher as well…

I took in the Champions League final yesterday (a day late). Great game. It was a lot tighter than I thought it was going to be. Juve gave a good account of themselves, but I didn’t ever really feel they had it in them to compete.

Barcelona just pay with such a fluid pace. I d0n’t think the Enrique iteration of the club is quite at the level it was under Pep, but it’s certainly very functional. That front three are such a sight to behold.

When I was watching it, I did ponder how British clubs get it so wrong? Barca are ALWAY that good, well, it seems that way. Juventus were relegated 8 years ago, now they’re swinging punches at the top table again. Why can’t we get there? If Arsene Wenger is so good, why can’t he make our team like that? What are we missing?

What is it? Why do they just get it right so consistently at the elite clubs?

Morata looked like a big miss as well… kind of a bit like a lighter younger faster version of Giroud. Really good little player. Though Pogba didn’t dominate the game, he certainly looked like the only player who’d get into the Barca team. Really talented specimen. Reminds me so much of Vieira. He just looks so comfortable on the ball.

I wonder if Arsenal are going to raid the mega teams this summer for the cast offs? I mean, I’d love to snap up Cech. PSG are going to have to shift some names on. Madrid always shift on the primest offcuts.

Interesting that Barca, Liverpool (Danny Ings and James Milner. LOL), United and Juventus are already tying up deals. I hope Arsenal are pushing forward with plans. I know a lot at the club bugger off on holiday around now. Hopefully Ivan and co are executing plans that have been formed for a while… that’d be nice, wouldn’t it?

This summer, I’ll be mixing it up with the writing. James and Alex will be taking on more writing and Simone will be weighing in as well. Stops it getting dull in the dry months!

Right, have a grand one!

Finally, a bit of an ask. Blood cancer is a total shitter, but it can be helped if you have a blood match… which is where you come in. If you could sign up here, and donate your blood stem cells, you could save the life of someone… it only takes two minutes and it’d be amazing if you could help (especially if you’re between 17-30).

Why can’t we get there? If Arsene Wenger is so good, why can’t he make our team like that? What are we missing?
    Exactly.
    Two more seasons.
    WENGER OUT

  2. David Smith

Zlatan, He could be our Larssen….or he could be out Balotelli, cannot see this one happening. He has already rejected us anyway.
Almost as if Barca are taking something our clubs are not!

  3. Fufina

The Ibra rumours are just silly season fluff pieces… and he is 33… and an egotisitical madman…

Would LOVE him to sign, one of the most enjoyable players in world football – totally world class and i think the one thing this team lacks is a total alpha male. He can score goals and do things no one else in world football would even try. Would force teams to try and get a goal against us because he can score out of nothing at any time.

Tough contract to work out. He is on a shit load of cash at PSG, would probably want 3 years worth of contract and plus the transfer fee that is a massive risk…

But i would absolutely Kevin Keegan ‘LOVE IT’ if we signed him.

  4. gazzap

Big no to Zlatan. The problem with Arsenal is Wenger. Look at the players he has let slip through his fingers because he doesn’t want to kill the talent coming through at the club. It’s small club mentality and you can’t be a big club with that.

  5. David Smith

Its not just Wenger , none of the English clubs are up to much in the ECL at the moment. I guess having a £400m strikeforce does help Barca, but I never cease to be amazed at the lack of injuries to key players they experience, compared to …well…us. Must be the Spanish sunshine

  6. Moray

“Interesting that Barca, Liverpool (Danny Ings and James Milner. LOL), United and Juventus are already tying up deals. I hope Arsenal are pushing forward with plans.”

    Ha ha. Nice one Pedders.

  7. DM

    Bankz

Typical. I was waiting for it all day and then I pop out the office for 20 mins and it’s up. I’ll get you tomorrow.

  8. Spanishdave

Barca ignoring their ban, they do whatever they want, the Spanish do not like law and order.
Looking at the final, then seeing England shows us the huge gap in skills that English players have. Our players are vastly overpaid and because of it they think they are good.
Wenger will be of on his hold already , cheque book safely away. Then he will be bargain basement shopping mid late August as usual. Yawn !
    Boring

  9. Leedsgunner

“Juventus were relegated 8 years ago, now they’re swinging punches at the top table again. Why can’t we get there? If Arsene Wenger is so good, why can’t he make our team like that? What are we missing?”

    Ambition.

  10. Rocky Pires

Zlatan was never a runner the man would single handly destroy the cohession everyone is talking about in the dressing room.
Did Kondogbia play for France last night?

someone was saying to me Podolski to Monco and you know it actually make sense but what with FC Koln (Billygoats FC) going well perhaps he will go back there.

Bit disappointed to hear Joel is only supposedly worth 6 Million?
Would be interesting to see him and Vela playing together.
Vela done alright this season with 14 goals in 32 Games

  11. Romford Ozil Pele

At 33, Zlatan won’t be leaving PSG. He’ll struggle to find anywhere else that will pay his 300k + wages. City stocked with strikers. Mourinho won’t buy him. Not a LVG-type player and past his sell-by-date to go to Madrid.

  12. salparadisenyc

All hail the king.. Bankz is back.

    Zlatan!
Actually a pretty funny one, Wenger missed him at 19 or whatever it was and that was that.. same could be said for CR7.

Can’t knock Barca… so fluid going forward. That 1st goal was pretty emblematic what they can do often and quickly. I wouldn’t wish them on anyone.. just a wrecking ball going forward. Was a moment where it looked it could potentially go Juve’s way when Alves mugged Pogba in the box which wasn’t called. 30 seconds later it was 2-1 and out of sight.

  13. Bamford10

RVP says he expects United to spend 200m this summer. Have already signed Depay, who looks excellent, and are linked with Lloris, Naingollan, others.

Arsene? He’s probably waiting to see who’s still available in August.

    Needed to compete:
    CF
    CDM
    GK

  14. Romford Ozil Pele

“Zlatan was never a runner the man would single handly destroy the cohession everyone is talking about in the dressing room.”

    Exactly.

  15. Romford Ozil Pele

This Barca side are a major threat because of their goalscoring potential. Their second top scorer scored 40 goals, which is quite frankly ridiculous. They’re so dangerous on the counter these days too. They pay the price for that firepower in midfield though. Nowhere near as efficient there as they were in that Pep era. A few years ago Juve wouldn’t have touched them in midfield.

  16. Alfie

    Id go for:

    Schneiderlin
    Rues
    Benz

I don’t think a GK is that big an issue, not Cech anyways………

    TOTAL – £85m

    OUT

    Arteta – £2m
    Pod – £2m
    Campbell – £5m
    Flam – Free
    Diaby – Free
    Jenkinson – £8m
    Walcott – £15m
    Rosicky – £1m

    TOTAL – £33m

Total spend £52m and that’s a title winning squad.

  17. Bamford10

Unless Vela didn’t want to return to England — and there’s a chance he didn’t — was a mistake to bring Campbell back rather than Vela.

Vela is quality, could’ve played wide opposite Sanchez or through the center. Goal scorer, creative, technical.

Might’ve gotten more for Campbell after WC as well.

  18. salparadisenyc

I’d float away in the abyss of happiness if we signed those those 3 players Alfie… Reus and Benzema would me just mental aquisitions in the same window.

  19. Alfie

Vela was never coming back to Arsenal regardless. I think the main factor was the weather!

Agree with Campbell, we could have gotten £10m for him after the WC.

I also heard murmurings about being offered silly money for Diaby a while ago??

  20. Rocky Pires

I just hope we dont get caught up in what most likely will be a messy Cech transfer.
Hopefully he either pisses off to PSG earlier in year or signs for us.

I do theink the “we need a CMD ” as we all said is no longer the case we now need a CM with ability to play CDM .
I do think Morgan Schn ticks those boxes but if Geoff Kondogs is available he maybe the better option.

I love watching Barca going forward but cant stand Alvez, Busquets and Pique.
    All divers all bad eggs.
Did ye see the dive out of Busquets for the Vidal yellow, it was a disgrace.

I thought Vidal done ok but he is almost a no.10 in the way he plays .

  21. Romford Ozil Pele

“Vela was never coming back to Arsenal regardless.”

That wasn’t the issue. He wanted to come back. Wenger didn’t want him. That’s why we got rid of that release clause and sold him for more.

  22. Alfie

    Lee –

    “Never gonna happen”

Whilst I agree, I don’t see why its beyond the realms of possibility. We aren’t a small club, just a small club mentality.

We are in the heart of London, amazing stadium, one of the richest clubs in the world, training facilities – the list is endless.

Its just we bottle the ruthlessness.

  23. Gregg

    @Bamford

I think Vela was quite clear that he didn’t want to return to us. You’re right re-Campbell. last year was probably his ceiling, pricewise.

I think we only registered 22 senior players for the Jan – May finale of the season. Given that Podolski, Campbell, and probably one of Arteta / Flamini goes, then that gives us at least 5 available squad spots. My guess is that we will probably loan Jenkinson again as he’ll see how Debuchy’s fitness goes this term.

  24. salparadisenyc

Agree should of sold Campbell post world cup, Vela is where he belongs imo. Away from the Emirates.

  25. Romford Ozil Pele

    “All divers all bad eggs.”

I always find this a bit of a moot point tbh. Football is shrouded in corruption and cheating. There may be some who are worse than others but nobody is squeaky clean. Remember Eduardo’s dive. Pires used to routinely go down easily so trying to take the moral high ground here is a bit silly. Whether you agree with it or not, simulation is, and has been part of the game, for ages.

  26. Alfie

“That wasn’t the issue. He wanted to come back. Wenger didn’t want him. That’s why we got rid of that release clause and sold him for more.”

Carlos Vela on Sociedad – “The striker said on the club website: “I’ve always said this is my home.” I don’t want to leave, I hope Arsenal can come to an agreement for me to stay”.

I thought he was a bit of a featherweight to be honest but he was THE chip master.

  27. Rocky Pires

My guess is that we will probably loan Jenkinson again as he’ll see how Debuchy’s fitness goes this term.

Ya think that would be logical thing to do .
Jenks done well at Westham suppose they deserve first option on him for return loan.

  28. Romford Ozil Pele

Vela: ‘Arsenal could buy me back for £3million – a million more than Real Sociedad paid for me. I like being where I am for the moment, but I think I’m ready to try other things.
‘I’m more mature, I’ve changed my way of thinking and I’m open to anything.’ (2014)

  29. Romford Ozil Pele

Alfie – Think Vela only came out with those comments after it was clear that we weren’t gonna activate his release clause.

  30. Lee

Look Alfie I’m a big wenger advocate
But if he signs Reus as a winger then he is blocking one of
    Walcott
    Ox
    Alexis
    Welbeck

If he signs benzema he is blocking
    Giroud
    Welbeck
    Walcott

He won’t sign two world class or wards. We will be lucky to get one of those plus Cech

He’s not in for a midfielder now either
It’s taken a decade to get a dm in. The whole country knew we needed one and coq just happened. Do you really think wemger will go out and spend £25 million now?? When he wouldn’t before??
Now he has the internal answer???
    No. He won’t.
He has jack arteta and beilik (sorry for spelling)
Those are our dm option s now.
As much as I’d like to be wrong
This summer for wenger is winger come striker
    Goal keeper
    IF WE ARE LUCKY

  31. Bankz

Typical. I was waiting for it all day and then I pop out the office for 20 mins and it’s up. I’ll get you tomorrow.

Well I will just have to call your boss to keep you out of the office until tomorrow’s post comes up then.
    Problem solved

  32. Leedsgunner

“We aren’t a small club, just a small club mentality.”

Yep with a Chairman, Board and a manager who all want to be paid like champions’ whilst conducting their transfer business more like a newly promoted side or relegation fodder. If Schneiderlin is available for £25m we should get him. I really hope that if we are turning up our nose at Schneiderlin, it is because we are pressing for someone better. It is not fair to expect Coquelin to carry all the DM duties himself all through the season again– it is the quickest way to complacency and to break someone down physically.

  33. DM

    “Walcott – £15m”

This is what pisses me off. I get that some people think Theo should be moved on, and I’ve already explained that I hugely disagree with that, but that’s your opinion, fine. But £15m?! You realise we spent nearly that on a teenage, completely unproven Ox? Sterling being touted for 50m, Lallana went for 25m, ANDY CARROLL for 35m.

  34. Bankz

All hail the king.. Bankz is back.

    Haaaaaaaahaaaaaaaa!
Someone needs to keep the sanity around here..

  35. DM

I didn’t mean to post that last one, hadn’t finished yet

I’m aware Theo is in his last year but to practically give him away is just ridiculous. Keep him or take 30m+.

    I’d keep him.

  36. Leedsgunner

“Ah forgot about Bielik. Lol, that may well be Coquelin’s back-up right there”

    *facepalm

It’s not like I would like the club to spend money with wild abandon… just on players who are proven and in positions where our present options are not good enough. Is this so “too much” to ask?

  37. Alfie

“I’m aware Theo is in his last year but to practically give him away is just ridiculous. Keep him or take 30m+.”

I get what you are saying but from an outside perspective than you have to see that Walcott really is very one dimensional. Can do next to nothing against defences like Chelsea and even the Swanseas.

I don’t think you can make comparisons against Lallana and Carrol because im sure someone, somewhere got the sack over those signings.

  38. Bankz

Wasn’t it Simeone who said we weren’t that behind Barcelona?
That remains the most clueless thing ever posted on legrove.
We are light years behind Barcelona.

As for next season, wenger really needs to get his transfer deals right.
The sentimental renewal of Rosicky & Arteta’s contracts somehow points to the direction that he won’t.

We want to compete next season then Arteta, Flamini, Sanogo, campbell,Podolski & maybe Szczesny should be nowhere near our starting XI.

Go road CANNOT be our #1 centre forward next season.
He just can’t unless we think we’d get the FAcup for a third time.

  39. salparadisenyc

I love it… Barca signing players with the ban…

Aleix Vidal: “It’s not a problem not being able to play until January”.

    Comedy.

  40. Romford Ozil Pele

Lol Leeds, well you and me both. But we know Wenger works in mysterious ways. I get that he doesn’t wanna marginalise Le Coq. But at the same time, what’s the guarantee that his form won’t stagnate/regress? I could be hugely wrong but Bielik will have to step up an awful lot. Coq has shown that we should never write people off but this 17 year-old will have to show something truly extraordinary. But maybe he can do it. Bellerin has been a huge success.

I think one thing is clear, Wenger is only comfortable spending big money on attackers.

  41. Nasri's Mouth

Leedsgunner: Yep with a Chairman, Board and a manager who all want to be paid like champions’ whilst conducting their transfer business more like a newly promoted side or relegation fodder.

The chairmen and most of the board don’t get paid much at all.

The manager and the CEO are paid well

  42. Romford Ozil Pele

Aleix Vidal: “It’s not a problem not being able to play until January”.

They’re well covered defensively, even with Alves going. Montoya and Adriano (so underrated) can fill that void.

  43. Nasri's Mouth

Alfie: I get what you are saying but from an outside perspective than you have to see that Walcott really is very one dimensional. Can do next to nothing against defences like Chelsea and even the Swanseas.

Walcott’s goal ratio is very similar to the other goal scorers at Arsenal actually.

    Big / small sides
    1st goal
    important goal
    etc. etc.

  44. YoungMurphy

Please don’t let this silly season gas us up. Still early in the off season and the fact we aren’t signing left right and centre doesn’t mean much at all.

Think we were interested in Morata last year but he wanted to join Juve. Liverpool signing Milner and Ings (particularly Ings) is massively underwhelming.

Give it time we got no idea who AW has lined up.

  45. Nasri's Mouth

Bankz: Is he still playing for Arsenal?

    Playing ? haha!!

Technically he’s still an Arsenal employee till the end of June

  46. MadeToLoveMagic

    Zlatan is a terrible idea,

    Huge wages

    huge ego

old age considering it would be his first year in the prem

Wouldn’t be happy to be rotated

Would create fraction in the team by being a massive prick and having huge wages (in my opinion anyway)

So many better options for a new striker than Zlatan out there

  47. vicky

Some of the reports on Bielik that I read was not quite positive. Those who follow the reserve team says he has a long way to go.

Do you guys rate Cissokho of Newcastle ? I like him as a player.

  48. DM

    Alfie

I’m not getting into theo’s pros and cons again. I get that you don’t like him much, but I rate him very highly. My point is that whatever you think of him there is NO WAY he’s a £15m player. Even if he was one dimensional, he’s extremely good at that one dimension, and is worth far more than that.

People may well have got sacked over bad signings, but that’s because they turned out to be bad in retrospect. I don’t think Theo would be a bad signing at all – he would go to pretty much any club and immediately offer them something. His pace stretches defenses even when he’s not on the ball – his runs and the speed of them mean that defenses often have to dedicate 2 players to keep track of him and that opens up the play for the rest of the field. I’d be very upset if we sold him, but if we sold him for less than £25m I’d be completely furious.

  49. Nasri's Mouth

YoungMurphy: Think we were interested in Morata last year but he wanted to join Juve.

There were strong rumours we wanted to sign him, but RM didn’t want to sell him without a buyback clause, and for various reasons, we’re never going to accept that

  50. Romford Ozil Pele

“Do you guys rate Cissokho of Newcastle ? I like him as a player.”

Sissoko? I like him too but he’s more a runner ala Ramsey. Think we need to be looking at more of a DM/deep-lying CM ala Arteta.

  51. Bankz

The day you find out where I work will be the day I get a new job
    Tomorrow that trophy is miiiine

I’ve got FBI friends so that should be easy. If they could dig into FIFA’s secret deals after a donkey years of public corruption, I’m sure finding your place of work won’t be that much of a hard task.

  52. Romford Ozil Pele

Lot of revisionism on here. Remember when we were linked with Morata, a lot of people were screaming/hollering at why we’re chasing ‘yet another kid’.

  53. Alfie

    DM –

” I get that you don’t like him much”

Not at all – I think he is a very useful player but I would prefer to see a more rounded player in his position ala Rues.

  54. salparadisenyc

“I’d imagine that Bielik is at least 1 more season away.”

Since when has that ever stopped AW.

  55. Nasri's Mouth

    @RP

I was one who quite liked him 😀

Him and Griezzman were 2 that I was hoping we’d sign

  56. Cesc Appeal

    RP

Yeah I said the same to NM after the game, I didn’t really care for Morata at all a few seasons back. Showed everyone hasn’t he?

Pedro stole my line about him being a better, younger, faster Giroud…bastard. But he does have theta presence that Giroud has, just much better and doesn’t run backwards in time.

    Vicky

I agree on the Bielik thing.

Lots of people were championing him as being almost ready when he arrived, I’ve read some articles and reports etc similar to you then, they weren’t exactly glowing.

  57. Bamford10

    Lee

It’s precisely that kind of thinking — Reus would block Ox, Higuain would block Giroud, Coquelin is all we need — that has prevented us, and will prevent us, from improving.

Add no one to the first XI and this team finishes 3rd/4th and gets bounced in the 16. If this is Wenger’s plan, per your comment, you should be enraged with him.

  58. Nasri's Mouth

    @salparadisenyc

Wenger doesn’t often throw kids into the mix at that age though. It’s more about older 20-23 year olds who aren’t quite good enough.

  59. Romford Ozil Pele

“Since when has that ever stopped AW.”

For real. Guess we’ll be seeing more of Bielik in pre-season.

NM – Think I was quite opposed to Griezmann. Tbh i’m still not sure why I don’t like him even though he’s done really well at Atletico.

CA – Yeah Morata has developed really well. Think him and Dybala will be a very nice strong dynamic partnership for years to come. Really wish we’d play the diamond at times. Don’t like Theo but think he’d work well with Alexis. Even Welbz/Alexis would be nice with Ozil just in behind.

  60. Bankz

    My friends are Mossad.
    Don’t mess.

    Haaaaahaaaaaa!
Where were your Mossad friends when Blatter & FIFA were literally operating in their own planet?
My friends took them down. They showed Le mentalstrenghtzzz and brought them right back down to earth.
so my friends > than your friends.

  61. Bamford10

    Bankz

Yes, it was Simone who gave us that ridiculous post. Hopefully she doesn’t write any more tripe like that going forward.

  62. MickeyG

It’s not all on Wenger. Those elite clubs demand, expect and plan for success from the very top down. At Arsenal the board and owners seem to just let Wenger do his thing. They seem delighted with what has been achieved. Managers such as Pep and Mourinho have been saying Arsene has the cushtiest number out there for years. No pressure to win at all. One thing is for sure is we are able to compete financially at the top table now without question. This summer will tell us whether the appetite to be the best is there or not. It has to come from the very top down.

  63. Cesc Appeal

Wonder if it will be a summer of left field purchases, Muslera, Carvalho and Ibrahimovic.

    Would be…different.

  64. Blsany

    Oh Zlatan Oh Zlatan
    Could you be
The most beautiful player in the world
    It’s plain to see
You’re the reason that God made a palyer

  65. Nasri's Mouth

RP: Think I was quite opposed to Griezmann. Tbh i’m still not sure why I don’t like him even though he’s done really well at Atletico.

Yeah, you were, but I didn’t want to mention it 😉

I probably get far more wrong than right when guessing who’ll make it, so I’m chuffed about him

  66. DM

“Where were your Mossad friends when Blatter & FIFA were literally operating in their own planet?
My friends took them down. They showed Le mentalstrenghtzzz and brought them right back down to earth.
so my friends > than your friends.”

Confused. What did the FIFA stuff have to do with Mossad?

  67. Cesc Appeal

    RP

Interesting you say that because I was having a conversation with some friends about that and said with the right additions we could very aptly play a diamond. You think Cech and the back four, then Coquelin, Ramsey and a new CM, Ozil at the point, Sanchez and say Benzema.

Very solid, I obviously you can switch names around etc

  68. Arsene's Nurse

I think Pedro should keep a running tally on who we are linked with this summer just to show everyone how much BS there is in this new click-bait world of ours.

We’ve already had Milner who a few days later has signed for the bindippers. Now Ztalan.

I just don’t pay any attention to it because Arsenal never disclose anything. Until a new signing is wearing a red shirt or it’s been announced on the official website it’s not worth paying any attention to.

  69. Relieable sauce

I dont feel we get the best out of Walcott, injuries havent helped but he needs to be played up front to get the most out of him IMO. How & when we should do it should be dependant on the situation.
He could play off of OG, one of 2 wide forwards & possibly alone in front of Ozil but giving him any defensive duties completely negates his main strength.

  70. Nasri's Mouth

    @Cesc Appeal

    Someone on twitter was suggesting

    Alexis Ozil Walcott

    Ramsey Cazorla

    Coq

    Monreal Kos Mert Bellerin

(obviously you could replace Walcott with Reus or similar)

  71. Romford Ozil Pele

CA – Yeah think we could switch seamless between a diamond and 4-2-3-1. Tbh I always thought that’s what Wenger would try to work Ramsey and Wilshere into the same team (essentially his long-term plan). FBs providing the width.

Btw, Muslera is horrific. Much worse than Ospina and Chesney, You’d hate him!

  72. Nasri's Mouth

    @Arsene’s Nurse

I think there are a couple of people who already do it.

Didn’t Arseweb do it back in the day ?

I think he used to get numbers of 100+ linked players over the full summer

  73. Bankz

    Don’t be confused DM.
That was just a point to prove how effective my friends are in uncovering the “uncoverables”….Lol!

Tell your boss to expect my phone call tomorrow.

Yes, it was Simone who gave us that ridiculous post. Hopefully she doesn’t write any more tripe like that going forward.

Bamford- that post said everything about how most Arsenal fans can’t be objective when it comes to comparison between clubs/squads.

I remember when people on legrove were so certain Sanogo wasn’t too far off behind Morata.
Well one just scored in a Champions league semis (both legs) & the final while the other can’t score for Crystal palace.

Mino Raiola, has said that PSG have no desire to sell their star striker.

“He has a contract and cannot just decide to leave by himself,” Raiola told Journal du Dimanche.

“[PSG] president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was asked about this and said no, PSG will not sell Ibrahimovic.”

Do think Messi may play a slight part in the argument.

could be but also Arsenal seem lack ambition and that’s what has made Barca so successful. we seem to think like a small club especially our manager is fine with having sub par personnel.

  76. Blsany

In other news Pistourious is been released……..Wait for it…….I’ts not like he can runaway 😛

  77. Howard

We’ll never win the league again with Arsene in charge. He’s already resigned Rosicky at 34 who doesn’t play. He’s also resigned Arteta and Flamini is staying for one more year. Of course he’ll be resigning Diaby as well.

Do I hear the man don’t like to spend money? All these above resigned players are waste of money.

  78. salparadisenyc

    Bayz

You’ll get no argument from me regarding our lack of ambition when it comes to signing players. Our last two summers have certainly been steps in the right direction. I’d like to see us fully flesh out the squad with zero holes this summer.
    🙂
    I know.

But were not that far off.

In 4-1-2-1-2? Or more like Ozil as a false nine sort of situation…

    RP

Don’t know him at all this Muslera chap, one of those quiet little rumours that we’ve learnt to keep our eyes on. I will certainly take your word for it though, I’m team Cech anyway.

We do have a very fluid team I think. I don’t rate Walcott at ST, but I think what it showed was when you have pace and movement up front you can squeeze that extra CAM or CM in, as Wenger loves to do.

When you have Giroud up there it doesn’t work so well, it all seems to too static and sideways.

I really would love to see what this side could do with a ST like Suarez, or Aguero, or someone of that type. Fast, skilful, strong, driven, clinical.

  80. Romford Ozil Pele

CA – Yeah Cech would be good though it’s gone quiet on that front. Will be interesting to see how this materialises. Supposedly he still wants to stay in London which makes us the only viable option.

Not Theo as a lone striker but in a 4-4-2 diamond, could definitely see Sanchez off Theo working. It’d just be nice to try it and see how we get on but don’t think it’ll happen.

Strikers like Suarez/Aguero are ideal. You’d think they’d fit seamlessly like a glove. Vietto and Dybala are the ones who look in that mould now but both are still unproven. Juve have chanced their hand with Dybala. Vietto is in demand too.

  81. Romford Ozil Pele

“I am completely sold on Fekir. Really think he is gonna be massive. Have high hopes from him.”

    Welcome 😀

  82. Relieable sauce

Our versatility seems to be a real strong point now, it would be nice to see us take advantage of it & use it tactically.
Sherwoods gameplan was trashed before they kicked off. Probably been training on it for a week or more. : )

  83. Romford Ozil Pele

Love Little Mozart. He’s in a tight predicament though. I get why Wenger wants to keep him for experience and know-how but as TR7 said himself, he barely even makes the bench most matchdays now. Evidently he wants to play and good on him for that. Ideally i’d keep him here but can’t begrudge the dude if he wants to leave for more first team footie.

  84. Keyser

“Bamford- that post said everything about how most Arsenal fans can’t be objective when it comes to comparison between clubs/squads.”

Like either you or Bamford are objective.

  85. Nasri's Mouth

Howard: He’s also resigned Arteta and Flamini is staying for one more year. Of course he’ll be resigning Diaby as well.

Technically Arteta hasn’t resigned yet. no-one knows if Flamini is staying, and I doubt very strongly that Diaby will be re-signing, but hey, you’ve probably got someone on the inside

  86. Romford Ozil Pele

CA – Fekir awesome, would slot in nicely on the right, would dovetail well with Ozil who drifts to the right naturally. Remember it working well with Ozil and Di Maria at Madrid. Vietto I like, moreso than Dybala because i’ve watched him more. That said, unsure of his ability to lead the line because he’s quite flimsy. Villarreal tend to play 4-2-2-2 so i’s a bit different. That’s the challenge. He’d need to bulk significantly and it would be an adaptation process though would reap rewards long-term IMO.

  87. Nasri's Mouth

Cesc Appeal: In 4-1-2-1-2? Or more like Ozil as a false nine sort of situation…

False nine I’d guess, though the way Ozil roams, he’s not really in any one position.

It would allow us to play both Cazorla and Ramsey in the middle and cover whatever Coqs limitations are concerning his passing etc.

  88. Cesc Appeal

    RP

Yeah it’s a shame, I know quite a few posters liked Dybala. Looking forward to watching a bit of Juventus next season.

I think we need to go big on a striker, or find a really smart purchase as we did with Eduardo.

  89. tunnygriffboy

Crikey guys the season has only finished a week ago. Relax or we’ll all be foaming at the mouth by the time the window opens. We may be doing nothing or we may be negotiating at the moment. We don’t know so no point in getting angry

Re Schneiderlin. Have we definitely lost interest or is it paper talk ? Do we have other targets ahead of him ?

Please can we stop the dream of us signing Reus

  90. Romford Ozil Pele

Vicky – Yeah Fekir is very strong, in that Aguero mould. Low centre of gravity and stocky. Reminds me of a more robust, less temperamental Ben Arfa. Haven’t seen him play striker. He either plays directly behind Lacazette or from the wing.

  91. Blsany

I want us to Ter stegen coz he passes as good as anyone in the world foorball.Where was our scouting network!

  92. Relieable sauce

Cech said he’d decide/announce his future after the international game, which is either midweek or this weekend.

  93. Nasri's Mouth

tunnygriffboy: Re Schneiderlin. Have we definitely lost interest or is it paper talk ? Do we have other targets ahead of him ?

Nobody knows really. The papers all linked him to ManU. Mad frenzy for 24 hrs, then pretended it never happened, then because we haven’t signed him already, the Mail ran with the ‘Wenger baulks at £25m for Schneiderlin’ story, when the reality is I doubt anyone has a clue what we’re doing or who else is interested.

It’s got to the point though that if I were Schneiderlin I’d actually be worried about being 1st choice

  94. Romford Ozil Pele

CA – Yeah definitely need a striker IMO. Was hoping Welbz would develop, maybe he will next season but hasn’t shown it as of yet. Only problem is that we, United, Chelsea, Atletico and maybe even Real Madrid are chasing strikers. There’s a lack of WC talent as it is so you’re looking at potential now. Any striker that is with their salt is likely being chased by multiple clubs. Need to get our nose in there. The way I see it, Wenger values attackers more than any other position so hopefully we can pick up someone good.

Wenger may throw a curve ball. Wouldn’t surprise me if the forgotten man Draxler is back on the radar. Probably cheaper after a low key season. How it all works remains to be seen. Still a lot of question marks.

  95. Romford Ozil Pele

“the reality is I doubt anyone has a clue what we’re doing”

This is it really. It’s all guesswork. My advice: enjoy Copa America and go on holiday!

@Arsenal My bet: Cech will sign this summer for #Arsenal

  97. Romford Ozil Pele

We haven’t done business with the rent boys since the Gallas/Cole stuff right?! Ugh, even negotiating with them makes me feel dirty.

  98. Keyser

    We have used Walcott effectively.

2011 – We made the most of his pace, you had Nasri and Fabregas pushing on in support, Van Persie providing the link as he dropped into the hole and Walcott devastating teams with his pace, off the last shoulder.

The Chelsea game at the Emirates was a key example.

Almost every year since then we lost key players but Walcott stepped up, like Giroud it’s about how the midfield supports or creates oppurtunities.

The idea he’s stopped still or hasn’t developed at all during his time with us is ridiculous, he does track back, he can dribble and create, but he’s pretty instinctive with it, like his pass to Monreal.

He needs gametime to build up rhythm and others to do the organisation for him, I would say thinking but Walcott has shown he’s learn’t a fair bit.

  99. vicky

“It’s got to the point though that if I were Schneiderlin I’d actually be worried about being 1st choice”

If he wants to play CL footie and wants assurances of being the first choice DM as well, then I guess he would not find many suitors. United have Carrick, Herrera and we have Coquelan. Don’t think any of the two supposedly interested club can guarantee him a place in the starting eleven. He will have to earn his place imo.

  100. salparadisenyc

I’d be surprised if we signed Cech… pleasantly might I add.
Seems very out of character for AW.

  101. Carts

Not a snowballs chance we get Zlatan. I refuse to believe!

At first I thought Ings and Milner were good signings, after ready ‘LOL’, it dawned on me that Liverpool need way better players than them two if they want to reclaim top 4. Not the worst signing, but not strong enough.

  102. Nasri's Mouth

salparadisenyc: Seems very out of character for AW.

    Even more so for Mourinho.

I’ll believe it when I see it, but Kike tends to know his stuff.

I just think Mourinho will keep saying it’s out of hands, and it’ll go on and on, and eventually Mourinho will just say no, haha Sucker!

    (or words to that effect)

  103. Nasri's Mouth

    @Carts

I think Liverpool are doing exactly what we should be wary of doing.

Minor upgrades (if that) on what they already have.

They now have Sturridge, Borini, Lambert, Balotelli, and Ings

Given that Sturridge is probably only fully available for 50% of the games, I bet you’d get a load of different answers as to how they rank in importance etc.

  104. zeus

“Barcelona just pay with such a fluid pace. I d0n’t think the Enrique iteration of the club is quite at the level it was under Pep, but it’s certainly very functional. That front three are such a sight to behold.”

The stats would prove otherwise. The scored more 175 (I think) to 152 to Pep’s treble winners. The conceded less and they also won more games.

Pep had to wake a sleeping giant though, Enrique had small adjustments to make.

  105. salparadisenyc

One of my great mates is life long Merseysider now lives in NY… he’s very worried the Pool are headed into the abyss, not to re-surface for quite some time. Going to be a big ask to compete with a United/City thats spends whatever they will this summer, defending champions Chelsea and the Arsenal who will likely be better than last season keeping the core together.

Could be a long journey to get back into the Champions league for Liverpool, I give Rodgers until January at the rate he’s going.

  106. Nasri's Mouth

    @salparadisenyc

Go back a seasons when they had Coutinho, Sterling, Gerrard, Suarez and Sturridge as ‘stars’

    Now they basically have Coutinho

  107. gazzap

“Arsenal will not be getting £3m because Barcelona won the Champions League after all.

It was reported at the weekend that Barcelona’s win over Juventus on Saturday would activate a clause inserted in Thomas Vermaelen’s contract, but Arsenal will not receive any further payments because Vermaelen did not play a single minute in the competition this season.”

  108. Marko

Prefer Leno. Much younger probably just as good now imo and potentially much better. Him Lacazette and Fekir and Carvalho and we’re flying boi

  109. Cesc Appeal

    NM

Yeah, would be a very fluid set up. Feel we would need more quality beside Sanchez though.

    RP

    Very true.

Perhaps Reus again? Apparently close to him last year, very versatile and is one Wenger has liked for a long time.

I’m with you on Welbeck, at a glance he has everything to succeed as an ST, but I’m done with banking on development in players or crossing fingers that certain players will step up. We don’t need to any more and really shouldn’t be. Not if we’re an ambitious club.

Kike Marin on Cech is promising though, if that one went through early it would put me at ease a bit about the summer, would be very unlike Wenger because it surely spells the end for Schez.

    Bamford

Enraged at wenger?? How could I ever get mad with him??
Fact is I don’t think we need benzema.
    I think we need Reus/draxler
    Cech
    An maybe a def mid.
I think those players added to this swuad and we can overthrow Chelsea
    Alexis outplayed hazard last season
Giroud was more prolific than Costa
Terry is another year older and Hal our team was out for the first half of the season.
Walcott ox and jack coming back fo and firing.
Rambo and ozil taking another step up
There is nothing stopping us from winning the title.
    Four centre halves now
    Four top full backs
    Steve bould coaching defence
    Shad massively improving our fitness
New big game plan and counter attacking strategy.
    BAMFORD
THIS SEASON WE ARE GOING TO WIN THE LEAGUE.
    I feel it.
    There’s a 98/02/04 feeling
