Cup final on the mind of Arsenal players

One of my friends invited me to sit with him yesterday.

As my #GoonerFam deserted me, it was a pretty easy decision to go and hangout in the clouds for a game. Amazing how much more of the performance you take in when you have a view higher than row 12.

Pregame was mostly littered with whisky and tequila. Anything to take the edge of the boredom I was pretty certain was coming.

The game isn’t really worth going over.

Sunderland strangled the middle of the park like their Premiership survival depended on it.

Arsenal played like a team with a mind on the cup final and not getting injured.

Wenger mentioned post game that we might have had a bundle of shots, but he didn’t feel we’d score. I get where he’s coming from there. It was a really weird night.

Tactically, I felt we were a touch dim. The more their bunched through the middle, the more we’d try and play through the middle. We didn’t seem to be too keen on hitting the wings, despite having more space there.

We had some great chances, but we seemed 5% off pretty much everything… player sharpness wasn’t there and we didn’t really click. I thought the introduction of Theo added some spice. He looked fantastic on the ball and he looked far more attuned to the team than Jack did.

I don’t think there’s much point in picking the team apart. Bayern are on a losing streak at the moment. When there’s little to play for, players shut down, especially when there’s a cup final in the offing.

One thing that was quite upsetting is that the manager didn’t rotate, then he complained after his players were tired. We’ve come a long way this season, but the manager is still prone to being a bit of a dunce with things like that.

I think the only other piece of interesting news to report was that I called someone middle class in the lift for eating a salt beef bagel… then ate one after. Highly recommended if you’re coming in from the Holloway Road side.

Third is ours, bar a terrible 7 goal swing at the weekend. Now it’s all about the cup final, because the West Brom game is going to be dull as dishwater!

Have a blast, see you in the comments.

We really can’t afford to lose the FAcup final….
    We just can’t.
It will be worse than Birmingham

  2. Bankz

    Watched Juventus vs Lazio yesterday.
How organised is the juve team?
I just can’t wait for the UCL final.
It could be a massacre from Messi-Neymar-Suarez or it could end up becoming a tactical masterclass from the Italians

  3. Crusaderrabbit

    Arsenal’s finishing positions last 10yrs 2006: 4th 2007: 4th 2008: 3rd 2009: 4th 2010: 3rd 2011: 4th 2012: 3rd 2013: 4th 2014: 4th 2015: 3rd

    Progress? Treading water more like

I personally would have taken a couple of 5/6/7/8ths in there was at least one or two 1sts in there as well

You could argue getting back your CL place is more of an achievement than simply holding onto it – shows more ambition to start with

Mediocrity reigns at a club with the 8th highest wage bill in world football, a manager paid £8m a year and the most expensive tickets pretty much anywhere

  4. Highbury4ever

    PRO-GRESS!! lol

Seriously, I don’t have rational explanation for this fact : when they play against Arsenal, all the goalkeepers are so much more focused and efficient than against any other teams lol

  5. Bankz

Crusaderrabbit- Don’t allow Keyser see this.
    It’s all Chelsea’s money’s fault.
How could we have done anything better in the last decade when Chelsea’s money keeps CoQ-blocking us from progressing?
Chelsea’s money is our undoing as a club.

Someone really needs to write a post or a book titled “Chelsea’s money” ASAP.

  6. up 4 grabs now

Last night game was pretty shocking, the atmosphere was flat. team was flat and bereft of ideas, and as for Wenger, dont get me started!

  7. YoungMurphy

Well said Pedro. Poor game and so glad I didn’t buy a ticket in the end. First half was as bad as the Swansea game with 15 shots and like 2 on target.

2nd half was better and my MOM goes to Kos who swept everything up so magnificently. Close second goes to Bellerin who put some tasty crosses into the box which no one bothered to get on the end of. Majority of the game was played in the Sunderland half and that definitely didn’t help as it was so congested.

Before the Swansea game someone said we needed 4 points from 4 games to guarantee CL football. I thought we’d get 10 of the 12 points but literally it has been such a slog to get to this point and I didn’t see that coming!

@Bankz – I can see the CL final being a going to ET. Juve will be so well drilled it’s amazing.

  8. up 4 grabs now

Cl Final should be interesting, even with Juventus defending i cant see them keeping out Barcas front three and if they get an early goal it could be a Massacre.

  9. Bankz

2 points from our last 9 & all against teams we should have beaten especially Hull & Swansea at the Emirates.

We could effectively have been 9points ahead of United now & much more closer to Chelsea

  10. Bankz

@Bankz – I can see the CL final being a going to ET. Juve will be so well drilled it’s amazing.

    I really hope it doesn’t.
Just finish off the game at 90mins like the 2009 & 2011 finals.
2 of the best finals in recent years

  11. up 4 grabs now

Bankz, we could have been even closer if Wenger didnt bugger up the summer transfer window in not buying a cdm and centre back!

  12. N5

ha ha I love my coq block bouncers, cheers Grabs. Well done Bankz on the Top 4 again! you must have won that more than anyone now. You’re the 80s Liverpool of Top 4!!

Grabs, it felt very frustrating last night didn’t it! It reminded me of the begining of the season. It could have turned into booing at any point.

  13. Danny

Wilshire returns and we start playing like shit. Been there, done that.
The only positive from last night is that against West Brom we can field our reserve team. I hope Santi, Aaron, Ozil and Sanchez have left today for a 5 day rest in the sun.

  14. karaul

    sooo..

    2013/14 – Fa Cup win, league – 79 points

    2014/15 – Fa Cup win? league – 75 points?

    we´re on the run!

  15. Bankz

Cl Final should be interesting, even with Juventus defending i cant see them keeping out Barcas front three and if they get an early goal it could be a Massacre.

I can’t too + Chiellini already ran his mouth comparing Barca’s front 3 to Madrid’s.
It’s one thing stopping Bale, Ronaldo & Chicharito, it’s another stopping MSN when they look all inform.

I think they have 113 goals already.
Three more games for them to hit 120

  16. Bankz

Well done Bankz on the Top 4 again! you must have won that more than anyone now. You’re the 80s Liverpool of Top 4!!

I could easily nickname myself “The SPECIAL ONE of Legrove”.

Don’t blame me for the many Top4 trophies, blame my competitors in azed, Romford & Co who have sat back & allowed me ride the Top4 trophy fiesta to the maximum…..I’m the special one anyway, you can’t blame me for anything

  17. Mr.J

Ah I see… so that’s why we lost to Swansea, drew @ Old Trafford and drew yesterday.

    Eyes on the cup final.

Because we usually smash all those teams who park the bus at the Emirates… we’ve done so for years!!

You know a thought just came to me. Wouldn’t it be funny if Utd put eight past Hull… all hypothetical of course, because its not like they’ve done that before… I mean, you’d have to be a team of absolute Mugs to have any team put 8 past you…

I mean, you must be a total shambles of a manager to allow your competitor to smash you with eight goals… Wouldn’t you?

These arguments for progress are almost laughable.

  18. up 4 grabs now

    Morning N5
Hope the family are all getting back to normal, you had a pretty shit month!
I think your record is safe, you have an army of Coq blockers now!

I really dont know why we play 1 up top every home game. barring City & utd, everybody who comes to the emirates comes to hit us on the break and knick a point, including chelsea.

Last night, Giroud like in most games would find himself the only one in the box or worse out on the wing with no one in the box.
surely against the weaker teams we can play with more than 1 striker!

  19. Dissenter

    Pedro,
Do you ever regret all the happy talk you’ve posted over the last fortnight?
It’s as if you were kidnapped by Gazidis and forced to inhale laughing gas.

Three consecutive home games, we’ve failed to score at home, talk less win.
Wenger’s tactics remain the 67th minute substitution, as predictable as ever.

You’ve boxed yourself into a corner with the progress mantra.

  20. Bankz

Bankz, we could have been even closer if Wenger didnt bugger up the summer transfer window in not buying a cdm and centre back!

Starting the season with an injured Kos, a tired Mertasacker & a 19yr old chambers + Flameta as CDMs have to go down in history as one of the worst ever managerial preparation to a football season..

I still can’t work out what Wingerworth was thinking especially knowing we were competing on 4 different grounds..

  21. N5

Bankz, so its not you being great, it us not being good enough to claim it!! you really are the Special One. And we are the specialists in top 4 failure!!

Grabs, I agree. L’Oreal isn’t clinical enough to be that lone forward! If you have one up top you need them to be clinical and L’Oreal isn’t. If you had a “Wright” type striker than L’Oreal would compliment them perfectly a la Kevin Campbell.

Thanks RE family mate, it was a tough month, but now things are pretty much back to normal.

  22. up 4 grabs now

Bankz, it shows you how far we’ve come that the team that started on the first day against palace only has 4 players in it now.

You would think just for once he might think, I know lets buy early, get players bedded in and maybe rotate 1 or 2 after the first 56 games so players arent beasted by october!

  23. Dissenter

The pinnacle of our season will be when Arteta signs an extension from the Physio bed. I hear they are making a bionic suit for him.
The club will bury the news of his extension in the pre-cup final formalities.

  24. Bankz

My autocorrect keeps changing Wenger to Wingerworth.

I don’t even know what Wingerworth means.
Could it be another name for “incompetent”, “past a sell by date” or “someone who only makes substitution in the 67th minute”?

Someone please enlighten me on the true meaning of Wingerworth.
    Thank you.

  25. Jim Lahey

Has anyone noticed how many Chelsea fans there are these days?!! I honestly never meet a Chelsea fan until about 6 years ago, and now they’re everywhere!!

  26. Emiratesstroller

This is not Arsenal’s first poor performance. Apart from the Hull game we have now lost one and drawn three of our last 5 EPL games with just one goal [own goal].

Yes the opponents all packed their defences against us, but you have to look at
the performance level of our team and in particular players like Sanchez,Ozil and Giroud who should be good enough to unlock even the tightest defence.

The fact is that these three players have been below par for a long time and frankly I don’t believe that it is due to thinking about the FA Cup.

Since January most of our first team have played without a proper rest. This
may work with our defence, but not with midfield and forwards. We do need
    some rotation in these areas.

In the case of striker we have no options because Welbeck is injured and Akpom has been sent out on loan. Giroud cannot score a goal at moment if his life depends on it.

Similarly Sanchez has been also pretty ineffective for some time even though
he continues to try hard. 50 full games in a season is too much.

Ozil was awful yesterday. He looked like he did at the start of season. Poor decision making and lazy passing.

My view is that Wenger needs to make some very big decisions for our next two games i.e. we should give some of our key players a rest for the game against WBA and hope this will freshen them up for FA Cup Final.

If he does not then I could see us losing that game if for no other reason that the players are now in the ‘twilight zone’.

In theory we could still be caught by Man Utd for third place, but to do so we would need to lose game against WBA AND also for us to be very badly beaten
by them as we have a 7 goal advantage.

Personally I would play a couple of youngsters up front like Gnabry and Iwobi
if players like Welbeck or Ox have not regained match fitness for the WBA
Game. We must not play Giroud,Ozil and Sanchez in this game.

What I do know is that for next season we need urgently an additional goalscorer on our books. At the moment there is over dependence on Giroud
and if both he and Sanchez are not performing we don’t score goals.

  27. Bankz

Grabs – I think you meant 5 or 6 games?

Anyway it’s Wenger we are talking about here.
Why will he buy early when there could be bargains in the last 2hrs of the summer window + who is going to pay those players wages over the summer for not playing?

We don’t have Chelsea’s MONEY ffs!

  28. up 4 grabs now

N5, glad to hear it about the family, its puts it all into perspective about arsenal when stuff happens to the family. you realise our ranting doesn’t mean that much!

if we did push the boat out and go 2 up top who would you like alongside L’oreal if we presume sanchez goes on the Left.

im quite keen on Charlie Austin For a brit player or Lacazette for a buy from abroad.

  29. Blsany

It was going to take something a bit special – a moment of individual brilliance, some ridiculous inter-play a la Wilshere vs. Norwich – and Arsenal looked lacking in this department. And Sunderland’s great defending restricted their possibilities even more.
We missed the options of the Ox and Welbeck who are more direct than some of their fine-passing team mates. They needed players who would take more risks and try and get in behind out wide (as difficult as it was) rather than staying so flat and narrow(Sanchez, and Jack). Walcott showed this in a couple of glimpses, he looked lively as Sunderland tired.Bootom line is we need to keep width.Where is the in game inteligence from our top top quality players? You could throw a blanket over them that’s how close they were to each other.

    Jim Lahey,
“Has anyone noticed how many Chelsea fans there are these days?!! I honestly never meet a Chelsea fan until about 6 years ago, and now they’re everywhere!!”

That’s the reward of success. Let’s not pretend that our early success under Wenger did not grow the club.
I try telling people wearing Chelsea clubs in my neighborhood in Maryland, myouve supporting a small club with a sparse history, they don’t care because they want to be associated with success.
That’s how Chelsea have grown their brand. To be fair, they’ve worked hard travelling post-and pre-season. It’s no wonder the commercial deals they get are bigger than ours.

  31. Bankz

Winger worth means “protector of the vault of the Emirates”

    Thanks Dissenter.
Now I know why they call them “smartphones”.
I didn’t know my phone has been trying to pass an important message across for months now.

    Wenger = Wingerworth
Wingerworth = protector of the vaults of the Emirates.

  32. N5

Grabs, same here Lacazette would be my choice. That wouldn’t be a bad purchase at all!!

You’re right mate. I came off of here as I was so busy with them, I still read it every day and sometimes I’d look at the arguments and think “wow that was me a few weeks back”. It gave me a bit of a kick up the bum and some clarity into what’s important to get annoyed about and what isn’t.

I’ve been back a couple of weeks now and although I’ve had a few debates, I’ve not been “ENFORCER” once.

karim is calling me Zen Affleck now because of the calm!! I wish I could just drop that fudging Affleck nickname now!! Bloody Cesc, Mid, Karim and Sal!!

  33. Micheal

Fact: 2 points from 9 in last three games.

Fact: All three opponents have played similar tactics against us, especially Swanseaa and Blunderland.

Fact: Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa has been training and practicing the very same tactics since the semi-final becaue he knows we always play the same way.

Fact: Benteke and Agbonlahor are quicker and better finishers on the break than anyone we faced from Swansea, ManUre or Blunderland.

Prediction: Work it out for yourselves !

  34. Dissenter

We talking about Sunderland’s “great” defending like its a suprise.
Everybody knwpew that was what was going to happen but Wenger didn’t seem to have a plan for it.
Tippy tappy through the center is our plan A, B and C
Wild crosses to Giroud ( who is out-numbered) is plan D
Rambo trying audacious shots at a 6′ 6″ goal keeper is plan E

Giroud looks dead on his feet, tired and sore of ideas.

  35. N5

Sunderland’s resilience was admirable though regardless of how bad we were up front, Pantyloverman was like Gordon Banks!!

    Bankz,
My auto spell is acting out too.
I just sent a cryptic message to Jim Lahey, even I cannot interprete what the auto completion came up with.

  37. Jim Lahey

@Dissenter – Yeah we certainly did grow due to our success under Wenger, but not to the same extent, I honestly feel like our fan base has grown substantially in the last 5 years or so, or at least thats how it feels. I’m seeing more and more Arsenal shirts in the streets, bumping into more people that support the club. Growing up, seeing a fellow Arsenal fan where I lived was a rarity; but now their are plenty. A lot of kids too which I find odd, because as you say they tend to drift to whoever is winning at the time. This is pretty evident by the amount of Pool and United fans!

“if we did push the boat out and go 2 up top who would you like alongside L’oreal if we presume sanchez goes on the Left.”

Theo Walcott. No I am not joking. But Lycazette will work as well. Austin is interesting as someone who can play off OG, but he is not exactly fast.

  39. N5

I think Hei is right, if L’Oreal is playing the Campbell role then you’ll need a speedier forward to play the Wright role.

  40. Dissenter

I must admit I was hoping we did Sunderland a favor
I like Dick Advocaat and was hoping he succeeded.

Now, I hope Hull manage to defeat United 1-0 because Newcastle won’t beat Westham at home. That’s all Hull need to do because anything less that an win for Necastle isn’t good enough.

I desperately want the Magpies to go down. I’m tired of all the “Newcastle is a big club because the find 52,000 bums to fill seats very week” talk from pundits.

LOL karaul, this is the definition of the word “progress” for Arsenal

  42. up 4 grabs now

    Dark Hei,

    Austins quicker than L’oreal.
Theo could be worth a run, maybe try it out against west brom on Sunday since its a dead rubber game ( as long as we don’t lose by 7 goals!)

Theo cant play up top on his own but as a 2nd striker i think he would do ok.
the frustrating thing is only ever having 1 player in the box being marked by 3 defenders. if you have 2 strikers it automatically causes problems.

you nailed it.. i have no idea why we didn;t rotate.. Cazrola is visibly tired. we should have dropped Cazrola and should have gone with Ramsey and Jack in the middle with Theo on the wings. Theo looks fresh and is hungry to succeed. He loves it here. I am not sure it he really wants to leave.

I dont want to see Sanchez , Giroud or Cazrola on sunday.. Get Theo Welback, Wilshere and rosiscky in..

  47. Dissenter

    Jim Lahey,
Don’t forget that Chelsea’s period of success coincided with the period of globalization and explosion of cyber technology.
I also think they’ve pursued global growth to increase income, which Wenger has blocked at Arśenal.
Chelsea have travelled to the US every summer for the past 6 seasons. They’ve also made similar trips to Asia. It’s paying off now for them.
We had a deal to travel to Nigeria, (why ?) there’s a Nigerian bank who are regional sponsors. We defaulted, promised to do it later and haven’t kept that promise.
We aren’t working as hard as the City’s and Chelsea to tap into other streams of income.

  48. gambon

“We had a deal to travel to Nigeria, (why ?) there’s a Nigerian bank who are regional sponsors. We defaulted, promised to do it later and haven’t kept that promise.”

    Shocking behaviour that was.

“We aren’t working as hard as the City’s and Chelsea to tap into other streams of income.”

Exactly the problem, I keep saying this.

We are happy to just copy what the other teams do, but not really try that hard.

If we are going to get to the top of the PL, we will need the biggest budget in the PL, which means the most money, which means we need to try harder than everyone else.

  49. Dissenter

    N5,
Some of the bigoted chants at Mike Ashley and Alan pardew has gone unreported properly for obvious reasons.
Newcastle fans are really deluded, SAF was right about them.

I still heard one prominent Newcastle pundit who went after Pardew’s family insist that “John Carver is a good coach who was hard-done by”.
They are still protecting John Carver because he is “one of us”. John Carver is the worst manger in premier league history.

  50. Carts

    This comment made me laugh:

“Decent enough half, you can see the exact problem we have and how they have to simply work through it.” – Keyser

‘Simply work through it’ was (his and) Wenger’s take on the situation. As in work through it till the 70th mnute as per usual.

We lack cohesion; it’s so evident that to go through an entire season in repetitive fashion is a clear indication of Wenger’s lack of tactical and trategic awareness nowadays.

Wilshere wide right, it was last night. LOL

Look, I know contract rebels get it tough when they start flexing, but to opt for Wilshere – a central player, along sie several other central players – was rather silly.

Far from a Theo fan, but as long as he’s fit and on the payroll, he should play. These fucking cameo roles at the hope of him ‘going at tired legs’ is so played out these days.

We should’ve seen more rotation last night, I thought. As there was only one, it further leads me to believe that Wenger simply doesn’t have the confidence in other payers to get the job done. If that is the case then fair enough. But again, this raises the question – why not do something about it, from a proactive stand point?

Sunderland were hardly going to come out guns blazing last night were they. I mean, Wenger has a penchant of running players into the ground.

Anyway, good news is that 3rd is all but secured. Villa will fully be up or the final. They have fuck all to lose and Benteke is on fire.

  51. Dissenter

Why can’t pussy cat Gazidis over-rule Wengr on the summer tours to Asia. Wenger’s reason is that it disrupts pre-season planning which is bogus.

The organizers of the summer tours in the states gave the club’s invited opportunities to customize their hotels and planes.
Most of the biggest clubs on the planet will be here enjoying the sunshine and excellent sporting facilities – essentially the entire quater final clubs of the 2016 CL.
Wenger’s approach and view point are dated but no one calls him out at Arśenal.
We are the only ones not going for an extensive summer tour of the top four in England. It’s not like that gives us an advantage over the rest.

  54. tunnygriffboy

Would definitely play Theo Wilshere and Rosicky on Sunday. Pity Welbeck and Ox aren’t fit. Good performance might get you an fa cup final place

We have missed the Ox last four games, he’s good to dribble and drive at players committing then to tackles. To be fair to Theo in the last two games he has been dribbling and beating players. I may go for him in the final. Problem is Wenger will have to leave twoo of Santi, Wilshere and Ramsey out and I can’t see him doing it.

We need a nother player that can dribble and create. He’s all but said we’re getting cover/competition for Coquelin and we appear to be getting a keeper.

Does anyone think Giroud looked really sharp after he came back from his injury ? Now it appears he’s knackered again. We have to get someone in that can play instead of Giroud keeping him fresh. He’s a big unit to carry his weight around, pressing game after game

We are so near. Just get the window right.

The forum is all about opinions, mate. Why the abuse ?

If it helps, Ashley Young is a wing-back and has never, ever, been a great finisher. He would nto be playing wing-back if he was. RvP is not quick, nor is Falcao.

My point is that Sherwood at Villa will see how Swansea, ManUre and Blunderland played against us and has two very quick players at his disposal to hit us on the break. Fact.

Unless we change the way we play, Villa are set up to exploit us.

The Premier League has drawn up a five-strong list of candidates for Manager of the Year
    Southampton’s Ronald Koeman
    Garry Monk of Swansea

    Maureen at Chelsea
    and wait for it………

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who maintained his record of securing Champions League football for the Gunners for an 18th consecutive season.

Are they taking the piss or what?

  57. Sir Chips

I am actually scared of the Final. Our key players look knackered and, like many others have said, even Sherwood will be able to work out exactly how to play against us (rocket science it is not…) Soak up the pressure and then pounce on the break with their pacey attacking players.

It’s a game we should win comfortably, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they do a number on us.

  58. Dissenter

    Blsany,
You don’t think 10 points out of 57 available points and -20 goal difference is horrible enough?
They’ve only won one point in the last 10 games. West ham are gash right now but all they need to do is show up and Newvastle will implode.

John Carver’s approach is to turn passion into tactics.

I think gambon had it right. Knowing how to do something and achieving that thing are two very different things.

Villa may know what they need to do, but they are terrible at the back and can’t afford to press us in order to utilise their strikers like they could lesser teams.

Benteke will be isolated and although he will get a chance to score as it’s inevitable, anytime they attack they are left massively weak at the back!

IF and it’s a big IF L’Oreal is on point or Alexis/Santi are wearing their shooting boots, we should push them to one side with no issue whatsoever.

  60. tunnygriffboy

I hope Sherwood’s ego makes him take us on at football. To be honest if they park the bus surely our luck will change and we take one of our chances. Also one of the rebounds from the keeper might actually fall to our attackers feet not a defenders. The ball rebounded inches away from Ramsey on one occasion yesterday.

  61. Dissenter

    Tunny,
He didn’t cut it short, he customized it and insisted they played all their games in the same side of the country so they won’t be cross-crossing a continent.

Van Gaal, doesn’t have the authority to cut it short, how will they keep signing £63 million players yearly.

We really need someone who can cross the ball in games like this.
    Olivier’s heading ability is wasted.

Man Utd are miles ahead of everyone.

We are playing catchup with not one team, but 4 commercially (UTD, Liverpool, City, Chelsea)

Therefore we should be working harder and doing more than anyone else.

Ask any manager in the world who they’d take; falcao and RvP or benteke and Agbonlahor and I k ow who they’d pick.

  74. Emiratesstroller

What concerns me about Arsenal at the moment is the complete lack of a
“tactical brain” either on or off the field of play.

We are resorting now to the same “possession” and “intricate passing game” as
we did before Christmas. There is virtually no wing play or crossing of the ball
until the last 10-15 minutes of game and more often than not noone sharp enough in goalmouth to finish.

The team has looked stale for at least 5-6 weeks starting off with the Reading
FA Cup Semi Final. Wenger does not seem to appreciate that several players
    are now in “red zone”.

I ask myself the question why do we bother to have a squad of players if the manager does not play them. The truth is that we have at moment too many
players in squad who are not good enough to play in starting eleven and more
importantly a lack of “goal scoring” potential.

  75. gambon

I would love Sterling in this team.

That said I really dont like the way this has all been handled.

I can’t understand that as things weren’t working why Alexis and Jack didn’t change sides for for ten minutes just to try something different. You are the first person to ever call me sensitive, which is touching.

However my point is that our style plays into the hands of ANY manager. I am not – repeat not – saying Sherwood is a better manager than LVG. Far from it. But because we are so naive and predictable, even a prat like Sherwood can work us out.

Also, I am talking about how easily chances can be created because of our set-up. Bollocks or not, Young is no finisher and Benteke and Agbonlahor will have a field in the wide open spaces of Wembley.

  80. Dissenter

There no way Sterling is staying at Liberpool.
They have to sell him, the abuse he is is getting is escalating by the day. He’s a young player who won’t be able to perform under all the hostility.
    Liverpool haven’t handled it well.

They will sell him and it will be to a “rival”. Their best best bet is to get a good player plus cash for him.

I would leave Liverpool if I were Sterling. He’s is being talked down to by every Liverpool pundit which is outrightly disgusting.

  81. up 4 grabs now

I think City will throw everything at sterling, if they need English players so much and are willing to offer Milner £160k a week, money for sterling wont be an issue, i guess it depends if he really wants to come back to London or not?

    Wenger is worried about possible burnout;

The £8,000,000 a year manager didn’t have a plan for the FA cup final.

I agree re Sterling. Basically grown men have assassinated the character of a twenty year old boy. The leaking of his contract details plus the way he has been moved into all sorts of positions on the field is pretty poor. He has said himself he feels bullied

They are a horrible club, horrible pundits and horrible fans. He was hailed by them as the next Ronaldo now he’s rubbish. Fickle or what !

  84. Dissenter

Whatever you think of Sterling, he has shown some conviction.
For every week he’s declined to sign, he has been losing £65 k .

It certainly is not about the money.

I see a goal or two from alexis in the final.
He’s a big game player. I’d also start theo.

  91. Emiratesstroller

I think that it is wishful thinking to believe that Arsenal might buy Sterling.

Liverpool will have to sell him despite the bravado, because this is not a player
like Suarez who gave of his best in his final season.

Sterling will “sulk” and “under perform” if he remains at Liverpool next season and frankly they cannot afford to keep a player like this especially since Liverpool are not “moneybags” who can afford to go out and spend £50 million on a
player without equivalent player being sold by them.

Realistically Arsenal are not in the frame if the player is sold. We will be outbid on transfer fee and wages by other clubs. Chelsea and Man City need more home grown players in their Squads and Manchester United need to rebuild their squad. All three have the finances to outbid us.

The only way that Liverpool might do a deal with us is if Walcott goes the other way, but at the moment his transfer value when you consider that his contract is now in final season will drop dramatically. We will be lucky if the make weight transfer fee is more than £10-15 million.

  92. gambon

    arsenes nurse

Yeah. True. No real does have a pretty decent cross.
So too does theo. His crosses can be lethal when he’s in the mood to stay wide

  97. Bamford10

Yesterday’s draw is down to our not having genuine wide players and not knowing how to use wide play and overlaps to generate chances.

Everything went through the center, and both Jack and Sanchez kept coming in. Wenger thinks this is how you create space for the OB, but it’s not, as demonstrated by the lack of wide play we had.

It’s Wenger: tactical blinders, ideas that don’t work and a team without practiced patterns in the final third.

Further, no one has noted that without Welbeck, we only have one real CF in the squad. Even if you want to rest Giroud, who is the CF? Don’t even start with Walcott.

Next game we should bring the u-21 striker up, play Theo and Rosi wide with Jack, Coq and Flam through the center. Everyone else rests.

  98. Blsany

I thought Ozil did his job quiet well.He tried to create overloads on the right to switch the ball but all of our players on the left would come wandering back infield so it was not possible. He took up some great spaces but cant shoot to save his life in an Arsenal shirt.

  99. up 4 grabs now

Jesus, England are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel now.
Burnleys 29 year old Goal keeper Tom Heaton &
Jamie 4 goals all season Vardy is called up for England.

“I’m very pleased with the squad we’ve been able to put together here, I think it’s a very strong squad,”
Meaning it was either that or start calling up Non League players.

  100. Carts

Rumour this morning is that Utd rang up Liverpool, asked what their price is and Liverpool said don’t bother.

I highly doubt they’d be as blunt to City, but it’s looking like Sterling will be heading to London, for sure.

If we can get 1st option on Fekir & Laccazette for next season, do it. Open up a dialogue at least.

  102. Ofebs

Keepers do so much better against Arsenal because our play is predictable and our strikers don’t place the ball well enough. Combine this with lack of sharp shooters in the team we thus end up being every goalkeepers favorite team to play against…

  103. Carts

    Lee

Well this is what is bothering me – agin, I’m not Theo biggest fan – he wasn’t suitable for the Utd game for some weird reason.

He wasn’t suitable for relegation fodder, Sunderland, either.

Now, when I say Sunderland weren’t going to come at us guns blazing, that went without saying.

However, they hardly set up in the most defensive fashion if we go by their line-up. They had three strikers on the damn pitch for 90 minutes.

Now it begs the question is Wenger doing this to spite Theo or does he too not think Theo is good enough against polar opposite teams. If so, then he has to be off in the summer.

If I were Theo, and wasn’t selected for Utd away, and Sunderland at home then the writing is on the wall.

  104. gambon

I would be keen to know where all the Giroud fan boys are?

Ozil wasn’t bought to really score goals, setting his team mates up is his specialty.

Nah, but seriously though, for some as “technical” as he is, he lack composure in certain aspect. That free-kick is scored several weeks back was nice. But shooting in motion just doesn’t work for him. Strange.
