Transfer snuff and how to win the league next year

by .

Morning Grovers! Long-time no speak, its Alex here. I’ve been away for a while, focusing on other things but, like a long lost father, I’m back with presents and a hug to make it all better. Let’s enjoy this while it lasts because just like a long lost father, after a few minutes you’ll realise we have nothing in common and wish I was dead.

So the election was pretty good/shite right? Depends on who you voted for I guess. Personally I’d opt for shite and am not looking forward to another five years looking into the cold, dead eyes of a man whose only interaction with me in real life would be to order a bottle of veuve clicquot off me before making me clean the mud off his terrier’s hunting jacket. But then he did save the economy right?

Right that’s enough political bantz, let’s get on to the football bantz. So today’s Arsenal news is dominated by transfer ins and outs.

Walking pile of festering silage, Jose Mourinho, says he doesn’t want Cech to go to Arsenal but that it’s out of his hands. Interesting I guess, I’d love Cech at Arsenal, he’s miles above Szcz and David OOOOOOOOOspinaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa in terms of quality. Does Jose really have no say over this though? I guess you have to take whatever he says with a pillar of salt on account of him being a massive wanker.

In other news Lukas Podolski (remember him) is open to a return to us. Well that’s great Lukas but you’re not exactly killing it in Seria A; where football goes to die. When he was with us, I was constantly banging the drum for him to get more game time but, if anything, his loan spell has exposed him as a true footballing fraud: good for scoring the odd screamer but not the kind of guy who’d run through walls to win a game.

Arsene also wants Walcott to stay. I’m torn on this one. I’ve a lot of time for Theo. We’ve invested in him, seen him grow, and on his day he is the deadliest finisher at the club. However, again in terms of work rate, he’s not on a par with Ox or Welbz so is a bit of a luxury we can’t afford. I also wonder with him what tactical instruction he’s given when he comes on as a sub. His off the ball movement is sometimes baffling and infuriates some of the punters around me. Is he being told to stick out on the right or to drift inside and support the striker? He often looks a bit out of sync with the rest of the team and so his contributions as a sub are a bit meh.

We face Swansea this Monday night at the Ems. Another scheduling masterstroke by Sky there – can imagine Swansea away fans will be savouring the trip back to Wales at 10pm. This game might feel like a bit of a dead rubber now that we are all but guaranteed CL football next year. Not for me, it’s absolutely vital we win our remaining games – especially against United – and finish as close to Chelsea as possible.

I wrote earlier in the season that this was a groundhog season, it was fourth place all the way. Oh god how I want to be proved wrong. We’ve overcome so many of our hoodoos this season – beating big teams away, managing fitness properly, using “tactics”. Second place (and an FA cup) would feel like real progress and make next season a really exciting prospect.

If we can finish second, the challenges for us next season will be fourfold:

• Overcome our remaining “hoodoos” – FINALLY beat a Mourinho team and progress beyond QF in the Champs League;
• Strengthen the squad – Cech, Schneiderlin, Sterling in; Szcz, Flamini out;
• Keep up the tactical work – good progress but more to be done;
• Keep up the fitness work – this season we had our first month with no injuries since 2005. That is not only completely insane but a real turning point. If we can keep key players fit for the entire campaign, we CAN win the league.

Right so that’s pretty straight forward – just do all that and we’ll win. I will be back again with some more garbage #insight before the end of the season. In the meantime, enjoy your weekends!

    NM the Fernandez fella isn’t a football guy and let’s be honest Harry could probably sell you a umbrella in the Sahara. He’s a sneaky prick though he knows the work he put in there and the players he bought weren’t good enough and now with the shitty stadium they have and the impending ffp sanctions and fines and given how hard it’ll be to get rid of some of those players they’re in some serious trouble. Fernandez will look to sell soon.

    And that Peanuts fella wants us to sign Austin.

    Nasri’s mouth,

    I can’t find the exact article but here’s the closest one where he talks about the clause being in his contract, which he would surely have had to agree to? If he had said no, there’d be no clause.

    Bankz, I am defending him yes because I genuinely believe he wanted to come back one day. Song said so and Pique said he was always talking about Arsenal.

    Red just answer a direct question. The man asked you who you who you rate higher than Koscielny and you’ve mentioned no one cause you haven’t a clue and don’t believe the nonsense you say. You’re just lonely buddy and that’s ok

    This is why he is the smartest cunt of them all.
    Say one thing with the mouth but do the opposite with your actions.
    Remember we made inquiries about him just before signing Özil in 2013?
    At that point his idol Pep was out of Barcelona & Vilanova didn’t do anything to suggest Cesc had a future at Barcelona.

    Now ask yourself, for someone who so loved & talked about Arsenal, was that not a perfect time to return & right all his wrongs?

    We need to put in a serious bid for Harry “fucking” Kane. Or Co-kane as he is known around tottenham.

    Welbeck for Harry Kane swap would be a very good shout!

    Wenger said our form in the first 8 games cost us the title, can somebidy remind him that hes the manager.
    The whole of 2014 was a dissaster created by him not getting a defender or cdm.
    Now Lionel Walcott us going to be our red hot striker next year

    Mr Red

    I will help you before I leave you to yourself.
    Am sure you thought I was been sarcastic when I said I rate him over all.

    Chavs..Cahill/ Terry/zouma
    City…Kompany / Demichellis/Mangala
    Utd…Rojo/Smalling/Evans
    Spuds…Ventogen/Dier/ chrilichils(spelling)
    Pool…Skrtl / Sahko/ Toure/ Lovren
    Saints…Fonte/Toby A/Yoshida
    Westham..Reid/collison/ Tomkins
    Swans..Amat/ Williams/Taylor

    That’s like the top teams with the best defence

    This season only Terry /Skrtl / Fonte can be mentioned in thesame sentence as Kozzer.

    Kompany who used to be the best is a liability now all of a sudden..Zouma was getting cahill out of chavs team. Lovren / Sahko accidents waiting to happen. Utd are dogshits at the back.

    Red…I hope you know better now

    Banks,

    I see where you’re coming from, really I do, but with all the articles out there I guess we’ll never really know the truth. I totally understand that you and a lot of gunners hate him, it’s all about opinion and personal feeling. Me personally, my resentment lies with Wenger for refusing to sign him, and more importantly, selling all our best players to rivals which left him feeling demoralised in the first place.

  10. Nasri's Mouth

    @Bennydevito

    That’s different to him forcing it through though. For all we know he grudgingly agreed to it to help force through his move to Barca.

    No we don’t.

    In the summer I totally understood why Wenger didn’t re-sign Fabregas.

    We could never fit Ozil, Fabregas and Cazorla in the same side. Probably not even Ozil and Fabregas.

    We can’t really spend £30m on a player and not start him. We have money, but not that much, and we play a different style of football now so that too would have required changes.

    But when he was putting in assist after assist in the first half of the season, I did think it might have been a mistake.

    But I’m happy we went with Ozil instead.

    Arsenal make it 19 consecutive top four finishes. Before Arsene Wenger arrived the club had never recorded 19 consecutive top-half finishes

    Swansea game showed exactly why Arsenal won’t win the league next year. THE balance of the tea, is off with Wilshere he just is not good even though he has all the skill. He is not good as defending so he can not play deep along side Cazorla. Ramsey is not ether. IN FACT i actually feel it was injuries that forced Wenger to put Coquelin in that holding role that lead to the end of season run. now that Wenger’s golden boy is fit and looking to get back in the team we have a problem. With Ozil, Alexis, Ox , Wilsere Ramsey and Cazorla all fit you have to pick the better players and Sorry but STATS do not lie. You may pike the what Wilshsre darts around and how he looks on the ball driving forward but it ends in NOTHING 90% of the time or worse leads to a loss in possession. Sorry but no matter how great that 10% when it works out for him looks that is JUST POOR stats especially for a player wit ha 10 on his back. If you insist on playing Wilshere deep you have to take off Cazorla NOT Coquelin you can get by with one Holding mid but not 0. With Cazorla and Wilshere deep you end up with NO mid deep. in about 3 min of play. sorry they both want to go forward, And frankly Cazorla is better. IF Wilshere had Coquelin’s defensive ability as well as his own skills ok But he does not. Wenger talks about balance in attack and defending then sets up a team with none. It is not that the midfield we have can’t create chances it is we do not have a striker that can convert a half chance into a unstoppable shot on goal 80-90%. NO We have a Striker that can convert maybe 50% of his chances. Then if you need a few Midfield players banging in 10-15 goals as well (Wilshere is NOT that mid.) SO can Arsenal win the league next season NO not with this squad. I Know it is hard to say Wilshere, or OX or Ramsey or Even Walcott have to go (not all but some of them do) As we have so much history wit them at the club But the team is just not a title winning side unless you bring in better players and you just have to make room somewhere so someone must go. OR would you rather see them on the bench? Wilshere is not what Arsenal need but that is not that he his a bad player far from it but Are we that worried if we bring in a World class mid that makes great runs that result in goals passes that result in Assists and Shoots from outside and can actually score. It does not matter if wilshere goes to another team and succeeds. Or Ramsey or OX I mean they are just too good to sit the bench and frankly all are too similar to have the right balance in the squad to win a title. SO someone has to go. AND you have to look at out of the players WHO produces Goals and assists. WHO’s possession leads to turn overs and who holds the ball? and if you are cold and look at the stats Wilshere MUST GO. OR you have to gamble Wilshere will come good if he stays fit and let Cozorla finish his career in Spain, Then you have to look at Coquelin he has proven he has the defensive side he is pretty good on the ball and plays good passes. BUT not always defense splitting passes SO he needs a player with him and frankly he is the only option would it to be great to have a player that possesses HIS ability combined with Cozorla’s there. AND have the option to play both to see out a game. SO we still need another DM. Sure if you could play 13-14 players at once we could keep them all but we can’t and they are all best suited to attack but you keep the ones who’ attacks actually lead to goals.(again not on perception but STATS) perception lies especially when you really like a player you want them to do well and you want it to be in your team’s kit. BUT STATS do not lie. And STATS say Arsenal need another DM (can’t go through a season with just Coquelin.) and stats show we need a 20-30 goal striker. a 10-15 goal midfielders (If not a few) and we need a Center Half who can actually defend a CROSS TO A STRONG FORWARD IF NOT 2. Our Defense has it’s strength but history will show simply get the ball wide play the ball quality early ball into the box to a strong number 9 and arsenal is exposed. AND maybe also a Keeper. without Courtois Chelsea may not have won the title. (with eh lead they had they could have lost a few more and still won the league so maybe even without him they could have won after all his backup was not bad ether. SO this got longer they I wanted and I could wright a whole blog post not just a comment about what is needed for Arsenal to win the league title.
