How’s that Arsenal British core looking a few years on?

by .

Do you ever wake up and all you want to do is unnecessarily swear?

I do. Really badly. Not sure I’ve been in the new environment to fully express myself in that way yet… which makes it all the more tempting.

Anyway, enough about me. What’s going on with you?

Save it.

We have more important things to talk about.

Or do we?

No, we don’t. Ozil captained Germany for a bit the other night. Really not overly fussed about that. I mean, I love Ozil, but he’s not really captain material, unless the Arsene Wenger silent treatment is back in as a motivating factor.

I was thinking about all of this nonsense with quotas. Apparently, at least three players will have to have been with the club for 3 years from 15. If I were a young English kid right now, I’d be pulling out all the stops to be the third choice keeper. What a sweet lifestyle. No one really fusses over you in the press, you hang out with footballers so you get to go to all the cool parties and you can get fat off a major deal because of your passport.

That’s the thing, these new rules take the meritocracy out of the game. You’re important and pricey because you’re homegrown or English. We’re looking to improve the national squad, but what we do is we put all the ok players into good teams, they don’t play, so don’t develop.

I mean, look at our English core that we signed 2 years ago.

Gibbs (£55k pw): Just lost his place to Nacho. Doesn’t seem to progress as a player.

Theo (£100k pw): Good player. One dimensional. Looking for a pay hike despite being injured most of the last 2 years, mainly because he’s English.

WELBZ (£70k pw): Good squad player. Doesn’t score enough goals. Gets England games because the coach likes him.

Jenks (£35k pw): Ok right back, about to be replaced at right back by Glen Johnson. An uncertain future unless it’s bantzing online.

Ramsey (£120k pw): Had a serious bout of regression after looking world class last year.

Wilshere (£90k pw): Based on his behaviour and what you’ve seen of him this year, would you say he’s indispensable?

Chambo (£60k pw): LOVE HIM. But always injured.

Our English core are mostly and expensive after thought in our squad. If it weren’t for their passports, how much love would there be for them? How much would they be worth salary wise?

Being English is more important than being talented. Our good players are being used to tick boxes. Our FA don’t see that and are making the problem worse. It’s ridiculous.

Anyway, there it is!

I don’t have much else on…

It will be up to US court to decide whether it would be double jeopardy or not. As well as political factors between Italy and US. So extradition will be a long complicated affair.

    I just hope justice prevails….

Irrespective of my views of the accused …

I feel sorry for the parents of both sides, what an horrendous situation to be in .

But for the grace of God…. Or whatever it is people look too.

  3. MidwestGun

    Rspc –
True. … not sure anyone will ever truly know what happened tho. Can only hope some sort of justice will be done. But most likely it will just remain a political and legal mess.

  4. Leedsgunner

Germany seems like a real hotbed of footballing talent right now — who has the responsibility for scouting the Bundesliga at the club? Perhaps we should recruit Lehmann if he would be interested or even Rosicky in due course.

Saw your comment. Dude you really are a pathetic little snake of a man.

I write a comment on the blog that has nothing to do with you and is in no way directed at you nor is it offensive and the next day you feel the need to insult me for no reason. What is to gain from that? Why are you so obsessed with me? Do you not have enough going on?

You’re acting like a jealous little high school bitch. Not exactly the behaviour of a mighty one 😉

    Karim –
Well. .. France played well in spurts. But in the end it’s a friendly. .. so… …… at least you haven’t given up a hat trick to Lord Bendtner, yet. Lol.

    L’Oréal on….

  7. roaaary

Has schneiderlin done anything? I just switched on and curious to know how he has taken the step up.

    Surprised kondogbia didnt start

  8. roaaary

Im not overly sure on schneiderlin. Think the wools been pulled over our eyes a bit due to southamptons style.

Kondogbia looks a beast though already

  9. karim

You could see it coming , credit to the Brazilians.
No need to panic for the French though, still a long way to go before it really matters.

  10. Ustynobaba

Lmao @N5 response to that dude, men that dude is hilarious check this out “all fans who attend games are sheep and tourists” mehn this epic in itself,on this platform, you are always sure of getteing the good, the bad and the ugly………lol

  11. MidwestGun

    Roaaary –
Well.. i wouldn’t complain about either to be honest. Kondogbia might actually be a cheaper option. Not sure what his current value is comparatively, tho.

  12. salparadisenyc

Wasn’t able to watch the match… I wouldn’t worry Karim. You’ll find your legs in the quarters after nearly being knocked out in the group stages. Onto the finale with the Gerry’s in 2016.

  13. karim

Yeah, that’s the usual scenario, that Togo game in 2006 for example, needed a 2 goal win to make it and it was 0/0 at ht, I was ready to hit my head against the wall ( Henry and Vieira saved us that night )

Don’t stress over fictions people on a disposable blog…

Mate your life is far greater than that….

Remember people on blogs take joy in slandering rather than encouraging…

The my car is bigger than your car or Murphy house bigger than your house people are merely concealing a fact that there life is rather sad an fictional …

    Don’t bite lad .

  15. Ustynobaba

RSPCA…… well spoken, most comments here are better ignored than bother about,in life i have come to know this “No matter what you know you can never know all,no matter what yo have you can never have all” it pays to stay humble but on this platform we Almighty God,Einstein,Aristotle,Bill Gate and others,we are not those people and will never be……..

  16. MidwestGun

    Red Truth? Ha. Good one.
Ummmm still waiting for more then a sentence. Go ahead, just a paragraph on why you keep coming back after getting binned at least 3 times. Surely, it’s because you love the comraderie on here.
Also when you start randomly preaching when nobody asked, that’s usually a sign of schizophrenia.
Might want to see a doctor about that.
If you have a learning disability just say…… maybe I’ll try and type in single sentences so you can understand.

Your a good lad what score youngancy tomorrow ? England game thatbis ,…,

    I’ve also done Poland
Portugal an azer by jan to win an bot to score …a cockle in trixie bets pays 320 …

  18. Goondawg

Schneiderlin didn’t really convince me at all. Looked a bit out of his depth.

Kondogbia came on and showed more drive and energy than the whole team did in 89 mins

Some reports saying Sturridge is out for a month

  19. Vince

    London Gunner.
I write a comment on the blog that has nothing to do with you and is in no way directed at you nor is it offensive and the next day you feel the need to insult me for no reason.

Very rich. So you’re getting a taste of your own brew and think it unfair? I’m having a laugh.

  20. MidwestGun

    Rspc –
Not sure… haven’t seen it yet. But Craig Ferguson used to do it. He was from Scotland so I’d imagine as long as he’s funny it will go over pretty well.

  21. MidwestGun

    N5 –
Imo, France played well in spurts. Looked good on the counter attack and on set pieces. But Brazil just had too much quality in attack especially running at the France backline who didn’t play all that well. The France backup keeper wasn’t the best either. Benzema didn’t have the best game, missed a lot of chances. France created plenty of chances at times just couldn’t convert. Overall, better team on the day won i thought.

  22. N5

Cheers Mid, I saw him sky it over the bar and the commentators made some comment on his wasted opportunities. But on the flipside, when Brazil are on point they can be unplayable.

Did anyone stand out in the French squad?

  23. karim

France disappointed in terms of energy and determination.
Brazil started the game with more composure, France was lucky enough to score with a corner kick header.
Confidence grew but Benz missed the second goal before Brazil deservedly equalised just before HT.
Once they took the lead, France reacted well by Griezmann but the keeper saved it.
Neymar sent a powerful shot in and France kind of disappeared after that.
Luiz Gustavo finished the job with another header.
    7/7 for Dunga
1st defeat since the WC for us

  24. MidwestGun

Varane was the best defender. Griezemann had moments. Other then that not really. Fekir only played a few minutes but looked decent as well as Kondogbia as a sub.

  25. N5

Cheers Karim, that’s a real shame. Frances team is very strong so what was the issue tonight?

Mid suggested the defense wasn’t really with it tonight? was it just that or was there any other changes to your set up that contributed?

  26. karim

dont wanna see Sagna again with a blue shirt and you could feel Pogba was needed.
No one stood out for me.

I felt Mandanda was decent, apart from the Neymar goal.

  27. N5

Griezemann is a good footballer but his current hairstyle is a bit soppy. Silly question as you would have mentioned it if he was any good, but how was Matuidi?

  28. MidwestGun

    Karim –
Ya… i was just wondering, do you think the defense was missing Lloris tho as far as positioning and comfort. Mandanda made a couple athletic saves.
Agree the energy level was up and down.

  29. karim

Sagna and Sakho are too limited technically and it made our defence a bit shaky vs Neymar and all.
Matuidi wasn’t bad but wasn’t influential either.
Maybe beating a lot of good teams recently wasn’t good news after all, we re not ready yet.
Would have been better with Kos, Debbie and the Pog imo.

  30. N5

karim, I know it’s a bit random me asking after one player but Mickey Rourke is a big fan of his and she turned it on, saw the score and just switched back to Friends.

  31. karim

Don’t think so. Mandanda s an experienced keeper and rather consistent too.

I like Sagna but we all know about his limitations as a winger lol
Too many backpasses and no danger at all. Boring…

  32. Leedsgunner

The glimpse of the old Falcao turned up. Bacca apparently looked very good… weren’t we scouting him a little while ago?

Nevertheless it has to be says I hate these two weeks — completely and utterly pointless.

  33. gnarleygeorge9

    Afternoon all,

The Oz, a team of semi professional Asian Champions all but beat the reigning World Champions (no thanx to my former favourite Arsenal player Lucas Podolski 😉 ) This spells a glimmer of hope for England going forward. Every other sport England knicks our coaches & now we have Ange who no doubt the Pom FA will lure away down the track. He could even turn a group of over inflated ego/paid Poms into a force.

    Ange Knows 🙂

Oh, of course I have the best seat in the house for Sunday @ the ‘G’ for yet another WC Final. No not the darts 😆 Look for a Brad Pitt looking fella wearing an Aussie gold cap sitting under the ‘C’ in Cricket (for Melbourne Cricket Club)

    Gnarley Knows!

Adios, Come on Your Rip Roaring Reds

  34. qna

GG9: semi-proffessional?? How so? Perhaps a dig at talent could be justified, but I am pretty sure all are full time footballers.

Anyway, lets hope that Woolies gives semi-pro David Warner some time off from stocking shelves on Sunday so he can jave a big one.

Very envious of you having a seat at the G mate. Should be an absolute beauty. If we can play out Trent Boult, think the trophy is ours.

  35. qna

Watching Ger-Aus last night Khedira looked ok, as did Reus. Khedira on a free. Reus for £40m. Put in a £40m bid for Verrati. Dybala is an interesting one. I dont think he makes our starting 11 at the moment but could be Aguero good very soon. He is also a bit short for a CF. I say buy him for £30m and let him work his way to our No 1 CF or if he can play wide in our system. Sell Walcott, Wilshereand Podolski for £70m and we have only spent a net £40m. Chelsea wont sell to us, but of course add Cech to that if it were possible. But he wont be sold.

    Debuchy Kosielny Gabriel Monreal
    Khedira Verrati
    Sanchez Ozil Reus

Int: Dybala, Cazorla, Welbeck, Ramsey, Coquelin, Bellerin, Schezeny

    Pretty good team IMO.

  36. Jeff

Is Arsene having a mass clear out before he clears out himself in the summer? Wishful thinking or wise words? The former I should think.

  37. Wallace

a few publications recently linking us with Sanchez’s international teammate Charles Aranguiz. feisty, high energy central midfielder. remember him being very impressive in Brasil.

  38. blsany

Was really dissapointed with Morgan Schneiderlin last night. The whole french mid got dominated by Gustavo and Elias. The more i watch him the more it’s clear he is not the answer to our problems.Aranguiz looks a good player.Remember thinking he played well at the world cupGreat goal against Spain as well. When Vidal was not 100%.Arsene sign him up.

  39. Leedsgunner

I know Gustavo looked a mess when Brazil capitulated to Germany but to be fair, who didn’t look a mess in the Brazil squad? I’ve always rated Gustavo… I reckon we missed the boat on him though… or did he turn us down? I can’t remember.

  40. qna

Schneiderlain is an overhyped fraud. The same fans calling for him were calling for gys like Dembele for MF or Capoue for DM. He is overrated and looks better because his club have been in general good defensively and well organized. Even Lovren and Shaw since they left have been a shell. This year he has had Wanayama playing with him. He will get found out at Arsenal. He is not fast enough to cover the ground. But more importantly he is nowhere near as good as people are suggesting him. He is not even as good as Alex Song and we have needed better than him for how many years now. I would rather Coq than Schneiderlain.

  41. blsany

On last night performance no not good enough but then again sisoskho was dire as well. They looked more assured as soon as King Kong came on.MS seems too similar to Ramsey.

  42. nasri's mouth

In the same way people shouldn’t get overexcited about a player who plays alongside another Defensive Midfielder, people shouldn’t be too dismissive over 1 performance with new teammates, a new coach in a friendly

  43. nasri's mouth

Thats a bit basic for my liking.

The Fink Tank is a little better, it gives teams points based on the quality / form / points of their opponents.

That one puts us 3rd I think

  44. qna

Blsany. I have never thought Sissoko was good enough either. If we are going French we should go Kongdogbia. Not just based on his performances against us either.

I think we should offer £40m to £45m for Verrati.

Otherwise, we could look at Bender (always forget which one). I have heard Kramer is good, but no idea how he compares since I have only seen him in a CM role.

  45. mysticleaves

Quote from the Reus article u posted.

“The 25-year-old has an unusually high goalscoring
ratio for a player in his position, with 53 goals in 11
games for Borussia Dortmund, and is a regular in
    Joachim Low’s Germany squad.”

Break the bank for him I say. Lol

  46. mysticleaves

NM, me too. Because we more or less can’t maintain our form. Any links for your fink tink? Would like to see…

  47. Leedsgunner

I love Reus but his injury of late has not very good — and before we brought him in I would hope that our fitness regime was changed so we didn’t injure him continually. Lovely lovely player… TR7 is his childhood hero too!

  48. mysticleaves

Qna, same with me mate. A lot of times posters here say ” lies, damn lies and statistics” but I haven’t seen a player that has been more qualified with statistics than Scheniderlin.

Everytime I have watched him with Saints, he almost always invisible or average. Maybe the Chelsea match was an exception but then who doesn’t have that odd exceptional game eh?

  49. mysticleaves

Leeds am sure you missed my point in the quote I brought out. They have him for 53goals in 11 games for B.Dot.

Lovely player though. u believe the 2nd best left winger behind Neymar

  50. qna

I am liking the fact that we are being linked to Reus again at all. It went quiet there for a while. Would expect some serious competition for him including from both halves of Manchester, Real Madrid, possibly PSG and even Chelsea.

Does anyone know the fee he would be going for now. In the recent past Arsenal have not competed with these big clubs for big name signings. IG insists that we can now. Will Reus be the test case? For me waiting for us to outbid other big clubs for big names is no less important than winning away at United, City and Chelsea.

  51. Carts

No doubt Gustavo should’ve been snapped up when Bayern were looking to off load. Baffles me how we sit on our hands sometimes.

  52. blsany

“No doubt Gustavo should’ve been snapped up when Bayern were looking to off load. Baffles me how we sit on our hands sometimes.”

  53. nasri's mouth

    Schneiderlin’s a very good player.

Would he improve our squad? Yes of course.

Would he be an instant upgrade on Coq? Possibly but he’s not as defensive

    Is he worth £30m? No

Are their others out there? Yes, Gustavo, either Bender, even Carvalho who looks like he needs to be sold to generate some cash

  54. mysticleaves

Qna, I think the scenario has changed now. He’s had a couple of lengthy injuries, his stock has been more quiet than gone down, Dortmund are a mess – might not qualify for Europe.

So maybe he could go for 40m. Nothing we can’t do IMO

  55. nasri's mouth

Reus has signed a new deal, no release clause. Dortmund will only sell if they need the money and the price is excessive.
It would need the player himself to push for a move, and he seems quite settled.

Plus, £40m for a player who will probably miss a third of the season?
    That’s equivalent to a £60m fit player

  56. Jim Lahey

@N5 – Those stats would make Batistuta blush! 😛

@NM – I personally would play both the Coq and Schneiderlin together in big games! Especially away from home.

  57. qna

Mystic good point. I was just thinking about those clubs though. Most of them need a shake up in their front line, with the exception of chelsea. But they are so active always you cant write then offf.

By the way Podolski looked ok last night. And the German fans love him. Think we could still get £5m for him at least. Hope there is some truth in the cash plus swap deal rumours for the German-Turk whose name escapes me.

  58. Leedsgunner

“Baffles me how we sit on our hands sometimes.”

Wenger has no problem unleashing his tongue when they come good.

    “I tried to sign him…”

Infuriating and pointless… we have the best potential XI in World Football.

PS. You know what is really ironic? We fought off Chelsea for Diaby!

“Auxerre coach Jacques Santini, however, seemed disappointed to be losing another player after striker Benjani Mwaruwari moved to Portsmouth last week.

“My players sell. After Benjani and Diaby, I should maybe expect some more departures,” said the former France and Tottenham coach.

“Abou was one of the players I used at the start of the season and then he had to stop because of repetitive injuries.””

  59. mysticleaves

NM – I think Reus signed to remove the clause so that Dortmund can get cash for him.
Any club comes this summer, he’s gone. Regardless of the lenght ot the contract.

Also he’s just had one injury-hit season. I wouldn’t be putting him down as ” player who will probably miss a
    third of the season”.

  60. mysticleaves

Qna, I think Man Utd, Real Madrid and Chelsea pretty much have settled squads in terms of left winger.

PSG? Reus might not fancy the league that much.

  61. Leedsgunner

Hope there is some truth in the cash plus swap deal rumours for the German-Turk whose name escapes me.

    Hakan Calhanoglu

Must be a slow news week as we are bing linked with everybody…

  62. Wallace

“I personally would play both the Coq and Schneiderlin together in big games! Especially away from home.”

can’t ever see Wenger going with two defensive midfielders. even Mourinho these days will only start with one and he’s definitely a belt and braces kinda guy. Koeman gets away with it because Soton are a mid-sized club.

  63. mysticleaves

Apparently the telegraph missed the “6”.

“Reus is one of the best attackers in European football
and with 53 goals and 45 assists in just 116 games”

Still impressive though. Should be prioritized over any other winger
