So that story you read, when you saw that thing about the French defender. Guys and gals, that story is as hot as they come. No Hummels, no Prem proven experience, no young upstart. We’re in for a versatile Frenchman who captains St Etienne. He can play centre back and defensive midfield. A good player, but a desperate signing that has next to no legacy and comes with a massive ‘will he adapt risk’. Adapting to the fastest league in Europe at 29 is a huge task, ask Squillaci.
When you have options available that are younger and more acclimatised, you have to wonder why we’re sniffing around the back alleys of France again. Feels like a real short term bit of thinking. Short term and cheap.
Allardyce reckons The Hammers home form can see them through today. Their strategy involves picking at our defence. Who’d have guessed? Sakho, Valencia and Downing are all form players. Andy Carroll is always a pain against us, so that’ll be fun. Alex Song will have a point to prove against us (me). Our defence has to deal with height and pace. Could be a nightmare today. Sam has us sussed at the best of times. We’re on shaky form this year, so my expectations aren’t exactly sky high.
Our front line will see the reintro of WELBZ through the middle. I’d imagine he’ll be flanked by Tomas / Campbell and Sanchez. It’d be pretty exciting if he were flanked by Theo… but the slow introduction thing is unlikely to be kicked off with a full 90.
We know Alex Song has very little pace, so hopefully we can get at him. I’d imagine he’ll be going all out action hero today, so there will be space. We also know Jenkinson is a weak link, so we should abuse him with our best man and attack that weak link. That’s attacking him and pressing West Ham so he ends up with the ball. Exactly what Liverpool did to us with Chambers. If Carroll is playing we know it’s going to be flick ons for him all day long, thing is, this year they have pace and efficiency running onto those balls, so we have to be extra vigilant today.
It’s going to be very interesting. I can’t wait to be honest. Probably the first time I’ve ever looked forward to a Big Sam game. Arsenal need to turn it on today. Three points takes us clear of West Ham and we can start our ascent to 4th place with Southampton next on the list.
If you’re going, have fun and wrap up!
See you on the other side…
