Burnley today. Hey hey

Not good for your hangover

Morning all! Alex here, drafted in at the last minute with the mother of all hangovers to try and put enough words in the right order to create something legible and interesting. Let’s see how we get on…

So how was your Halloween? Did you trick or did you treat? Did you set a firework off in a pensioners face or did you end up at a house party being sick off a balcony? Whatever you did, I hope you stayed safe.

So onto football and Arsenal. God it feels like a long time doesn’t it? Well it’s not been really but the fact is I’ve missed our last two games. In fact, I haven’t even had time to watch the highlights. However I did get a flavour of the respective performances we put in by following the games on twitter (the home of reasoned and balanced analysis). For what its worth, here’s my two cents:

Anderlecht – like getting a lapdance off your nan for 85 minutes, only for Rachel Riley to show up at the end in a bikini with a bottle of champagne

Sunderland – like watching golf in a Volvo with Michael Owen

Nonetheless, two wins is two wins, we must look forward not back etc etc. Today we face recently promoted Burnley who come from somewhere up north. I know very little about them, other than the fact that Alistair Campbell is a fan and their manager always sounds like he needs to clear his throat. So little to analyse tactically here, however to be fair this is probably one of those games where Arsene’s ‘we play our own style, balls to your team and your “tactics”’ philosophy can actually work. We are good enough to beat Burnley at home. Scrap that; we should be thrashing them.

The big news, for me anyway, is that Theo is getting closer to a return to the first team. It may be an uncontroversial thing to say but it can’t come soon enough. We have been pretty woeful this season and, before he got injured, I would say he was on the cusp of becoming a world class player. The kind of guy who can win games for you on his own. Let’s hope his lengthy lay-off hasn’t hindered his progress and his return will be the fillip the team needs to get the season back on track.

Amazingly according to Squawka and Physio Room, Arsenal have had 73 injuries in the time Theo has been out; with Gibbs and Wilshere picking up 6 separate injuries each. Bonkers if true. But don’t worry guys, Arsenal are on to their third internal review, so I’m pretty sure they’ll have figured out what the problem is by January (ps it wont be the manager).

The only other team news to note is that Wilshere is out, but Gibbs might play leaving us with one fit defender or something (I can’t keep track to be honest).

Ok that’s your lot from me today, hopefully there’s enough get you through the morning, prep you for today’s game and bring about the end of capitalist society as we know it. (If you want to know where Russell Brand got the idea for his revolution from; it was here, the ONLY anarcho-syndicalist Arsenal blog worth reading.)

I might be back tomorrow with a match report which will be better than this, I promise. In the meantime please follow me on twitter @aldo_doel – this is a cynical appeal for numbers. I need more numbers.

Ps If you are going to the game today remember, if you don’t sing, then it’s your fault if we don’t win and you should probably kill yourself for not being a real fan.

Pps only joking, please don’t do that x

Yeah watching Arsenal is pure pain these days. Being over reliant on one awesome player makes it all the more embarrassing. I still think it’s just down to how these players are being managed. The squad we have is FAR better than what shows on the pitch during a game.

  2. Johnty79

From this match we can see that there is absolutely no point arsenal having a corner in a match. When bould came in we tried some different stuff like near post flick ons. We didn’t score and I think wenger proved his point that there’s no point practicing corners.

What wenger does get is trying some innovative keeps the opposition….keeps them guessing. Every time we get a corner we do the same old shit.

Wenger out!( and take diaby with ya)

  3. london gunner

Are team is an embarrassment to Sanchez

Why should he stay at AFC? He deserves a title winning team let alone a CL winning team.

His simply to wonderful for a team with such mediocre expectations

His playing 3 roles right now his being the winger, his playing cam (as Cazorla is useless and now he is striker because welbeck is ineffective) Hell his even a box to box at times.

Edit Well done Sanchez! Lol even scoring headers now at 5’6. This guy is magic

  4. yaa4real

I have concluded WENGER is a well-rounded fool! Does this man know the meaning of having a bench? Real Madrid is 3 goals up and the coach substituted a player, this moron is struggling with Burnley and still working these guys to death week-in, week-out!!!!! He thinks he knows better than everybody.

  5. Arsene's Nurse

Podolski and Walcott on. Welcome back Theo – didn’t think he’d be back until next year.

Just pray he doesn’t get injured.

  6. Mart

God bless whoever wrote that article about Alexis anger because it has saved our season. I have never seen Arsenal players working so hard and display such hunger. .apart from Cazorla maybe

  7. gazzap

have you seen Wenger’s massive coat? It’s like a duvet. And it’s a warm day as well. Maybe he just goes by the calender – hasn’t got time to check a weather forecast!!

  8. Arsene's Nurse

Podolski is going to kill someone someday. How the fuck he didn’t either score there or knock the goal over I don’t know.

  9. yaa4real

S-A-N-C-H-E-Z , a different class. Pray Mr. AW will not work you to death with his “I know too much” attitude.

  10. WengerEagle

That’s 10 goals this season already for Sanchez and it’s only the 1st of November. Stunning goalscoring form.

If he can keep this up he’s on course for 30 goals this season.

  11. Radio Raheem

Yah we’re sending out a message to the whole of Europe.
Still great performance Sanchez and Burnley goalie.

  12. Jeff

Sanchez is going to do this season what Ramsey did last season. What a player.

Kwik, where are you? I want the singing bear please!!!

  13. london gunner

    Where are you?

You said Sanchez couldn’t dribble well he is one of our best dribblers

You said Sanchez couldn’t pass? Well he was in fact one of our most creative technical passers.. the range of passing today from perfectly weighted through balls, to long passes and dinks over the top.

You judged him because when he first came he was nervous and didn’t have an understanding with the rest of the team yet so he was trying to dribble past everyone and wasn’t on the right wave length when it came to passing.

But after a couple months his dribbling is becoming sensational his beating players with ease and losing possession less every game

His playmaking ability was exceptional today numerous times he one of the key men involved in the patterns/ build ups for goal scoring opportunities only to be let down by his team mates poor finishing.

Will you be the big man and apologize for bashing Sanchez?

  14. tunnygriffboy

Surprise surprise Burnley ver well organised as they have been all season. Didn’t get the early goal we needed so had to be patient. Eventually they tired and we get the goal and then another two. Three nil, clean sheet and Theo gets a run out. All good for confidence

Alexis cost 35 million. Reason we spent that is for the performances he’s giving. Ideal for PL and has started better than I expected 🙂

Chambers goal and assist as well 🙂

  15. Cesc Appeal

Chambers was excellent. But Sanchez MotM x2…don’t know if you can times a MotM award by two but he deserves it. What. A. Fucking. Player. Relentless, full of skill, clinical, powerful, lighting.

As soon as Ramsey came on we instantly looked more balanced as well, more shape. So please, please Wenger from now on, no fucking around, whilst Debuchy, Kozz and Ozil are still injured:

    Bellerin, Mert, Chambers, Gibbs
    Arteta, Ramsey
    Walcott, Sanchez, Oxlade

Cazorla’s been awful this year, needs dropping, no warping for Wilshere either. Just play to that incredible pace and power in the middle.

Especially for a game like next week away from home. Explosive like C4 strapped to a barrel of kerosene on the break.

  16. gazzap

we’re fourth but tbh we aren’t anything special other than one player but we definitely have the quality to suddenly emerge into a better team. The performances recently have been very ordinary for at least 60 mins. What annoys me most is that we saw a really pedestrian performance last week against Sunderland and Wenger REWARDS the players but keeping the same 11 on the pitch.
“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” – Albert Einstein

  17. Radio Raheem

I don’t get these Sanchez is too good for Arsenal comments. It isn’t like he’s doing it for a pack of walkers.

  18. tunnygriffboy

Missing Mesut’s creativity. You’re right. Get Sanchez, Theo and Ozil in the team for an extended run and we’ll be a handful. £35million gets you that quality, it’s starting to rub off on other players and I’m glad he smashed the changing room up after we lost. #teamalexis#10 goals#humandynamo

  19. DaleDaGooner

Ramsey and Wilshere odd men out even with Cazorla playing subpar…Ramsey needs to get back to the simple stuff expected from a midfielder and leave the striking dept…all played well except for Cazorla’s shooting boots, even Kudos to Monreal at Cb

  20. NYCgooner

Ignore the idiotic comments. No player is too good for the Arsenal. He’s exactly the type of player we should expect to play for us.

  21. gazzap

Southampton have to be taken very seriously for a top 4 or better. I KNOW we have seen smaller teams fall away in the new year before but this season a lot of the bigger teams are not playing well and for that reason I think a place in the top 4 could open up for a smaller team. Still a long way to go but I don’t think the Saints are fluking it.

  22. DaleDaGooner

Idiots with the “Sanchez is too good for this team” wonder why you support Arsenal or are talking Arsenal daily

  23. london gunner

    Sorry Hazard fan boys but

Sanchez is more explosive, more skilful, just all round better attacking threat.

    Sanchez vs Hazard this season.

    7 v 3

2 v 1 (surprised at how poor Hazard assist rate is with Costa upfront to feed)

key passes (this is what it was before this match

    18 v 18

    9 v 10

    19 v 14

    10 v 7

  24. WengerEagle

    Jim Lahey

Not sure mate I’m going to stream it online. I’ll put a link up at half on here.

If Dortmund lose again I think that’s 7 Bundesliga defeats in a row.

  25. Radio Raheem

I hope Wenger’s pre-match comments of Sanchez reminding him of the Keown et al was meant to pull the other members to Sanchez’ level (if only in attitude).

It isn’t that Sanchez is too good but more about the rest not having a similar approach. Sanchez might be Chile’s best player but when they play the common approach they share blurrrs the gap in quality. Something similar at Arsenal will take us up a level.

  26. london gunner

I actually think you could play Sanchez in the middle.

A bit like how Sterling does at times for Liverpool. His got the passing ability and it means he could swap and interchange onto either wing.

I saw him in a new light today it wasn’t just his goals but his playmaking vision. The way he virtually created all of our main scoring opportunities.

His also shown that his got great ball control in the tightest areas of the field… his touch and swivels around players today were truly world class.. this is essential for any CAM.. not saying that’s a permanent role but just something to keep in mind while Ozil is out.

  27. london gunner

    Radio Raheem

you don’t get the sanchez is to good for Arsenal comments?

Its simple he deserves to be in a title winning team will we challenge for the title? More likely we will challenge for 4th and only make it because of Sanchez bailing us out.

Yes his being paid lots of money but Bayern, Man City could both offer more. Bayern are in the market for a winger and looking at City’s comparative weakness on the wings so should they.

  28. tunnygriffboy

    Jim L

Just embellishing the report in the paper this week saying he had a real rant after losing to Southampton. Why let a few lies spoil a good story :). Everyone else does it. Loooool. Hopefully this ultimate desire to win will rub off on everyone else.

Re Southampto, they’ll be difficult to beat, they have the best DM partnership in the PL

  29. WengerEagle

I just hope that he hangs around long enough to become an Arsenal legend mate. If he keeps up this form it’s hard to see him staying too long tbh.

He has some way to go before he can be talked about along with the likes of Thierry and Dennis though.

  30. DaleDaGooner

And people thought Southampton was going to go down after selling a bulk if their last season players and Pochettino leaving….7 victories so far…

  31. alex cutter

“Idiots with the “Sanchez is too good for this team” wonder why you support Arsenal or are talking Arsenal daily…”

I’m guessing from your screen name that you’re thick, so I’ll type slowly.

It’s not that he’s too good for the club, it’s that he’s too good for most of his current teammates, and his manager.

    Still confused?

  32. Radio Raheem

If these clubs were interested why did he end up at Arsenal? Remember he was at Barcelona a title winning team. In their thinking they traded up for Suarez.

I agree we should have a stronger squad but for the fans not to satiate a player, however good he is. Players come and go.

  33. Wallace

“”We had been solid before Tom Heaton had to make great saves but after they scored they opened the game up. They get in great passing lanes, they have a great shape, they have pace, power and energy but they also have tactical awareness.”

    – Burnley manager

  34. Arsene's Nurse

Hopefully the Sanchez effect will start rubbing off onto a few of the other players. Having a fighter and a winner who puts in big performances is likely to inspire the others and give them more confidence.

We’ve certainly been lacking confidence recently. Incidentally Walcott looked quite good in his play today too.

  35. WengerEagle

    He also said this:

“I was saying to Danny Ings, look at players like Alexis Sanchez. He will fight, run and tackle when he needs to.”

Have to say that I love Sanchez’s workrate and heart.

    He’s a streetfighter.

  36. gary

He’s too good for us .. he will go next season..bla..bla..bla..who gives a fuc . He plays for us now and he’s quality u miserable fuck s

  37. nigel tufnel

London, dont bother comparing Alexis to Hazard. The chelsea fanboys will never understand..
THERE IS NO COMPARISON ,, not even close. Compare Alexis to Suarez, thats a better one.

Anyone who doubts that we have the player of the year in bpl on our team, watch the first half again…

Even before he scored, he was doing everything, everywhere on the pitch…

He is almost like having a man advantage, because he draes 2,3 defenders every time. When he does this in our own half and still eludes them, he starts a break for us… all on his own.

Forget costas goal total, wTch that 1st half, and see the most influential player in the league.
Hazard, what a joke to compare. In comparison, he’s a nice little player with great skills. Will pop up once in a while, but invisible most of the time. Costa can score 30, but Alexis is the player of the year.

By the way, I wouldnt tinker too much with where to play Alexis, he’s looking so good as is. But also, the type he is, it probably doesnt matter. Great players, free role, you know.

    Different levels.

  38. Masterstroke

The officials had next to nothing to do all match, but the one game changing decision that came their way they completely fucked up. How did they manage that? Ok I know, I’m sounding like Untold

  39. WengerEagle

Yeah I agree, well he’s definitely what we need and to be fair we are probably what he needs right now, he was marginalised at Barcelona whereas here he’s the main man.

Someone said it a handful of comments back and they were spot on, he’s been our Ramsey so far this season, literally is carrying our attack.

  40. Wallace

yeah, wish we’d also snapped up his int’l colleague, Gary Medel. similar approach, and just as tough.

  41. tunnygriffboy

Sanchez has played 9 premier league games for us. He’s been brilliant. We payed 35 million for him and part of his job is to put in great performances for us. He has started better than I expected. It’s his desire to work and the ethic to win watch is brilliant. It will bring others along with him.

Let’s see how we do when Walcott, l’oreal, Ozil and Ramsey back to full fitness. Alexis signed for Arsenal to be the main man. Looks like he’s embracing it.

  42. Cesc Appeal

    NYC Tunny

These are the things that really, really frustrate me with Arsene. That change is minimal really, stick Ramsey in take one of Arteta or Flamini out. But he won’t.

Perhaps he is nursing him in, or perhaps this is instruction from Shad (doubt it) but who knows though…

My worry now is that Wilshere returns next week…so he might go back to 4-1-4-1 and kill us.

Right now it’s 4 games in 4-2-3-1, 12 points, 12 goals, 1 conceded. Amazing stuff…and no Wilshere…sorry but them is the facts.

  43. Cesc Appeal

Sanchez is on another planet right now.

His footwork is great and it’s improving every game; was maybe a touch rusty when he arrived but he looks the thing I’ve wanted for years, a baller who’s also an athlete.

Burnley gaffer was praising how brave Sanchez was, the fact he just gets stuck in and is so, so powerful.

Very impressed with Walcott as well, few neat touches, couple of dribbles, nice turn and shot and almost an assist at the end.

I’d honestly dump Cazorla, he’s been utter crap and looks languid and disinterested, play Walcott, Sanchez and Oxlade until Ozil’s return.

  44. nigel tufnel

Probably an honor killing. At least not a decapitation this time. But your coward media will just call it domestic violence either way. The truth might offend some group.

  45. NYCgooner

I’m trying to give him the benefit of the doubt and believe Ramsey’s minutes being limited are from the recommendation of Shad.

  46. tunnygriffboy

Sanchez grew up in a poor run down mining town on the edge of the desert. As a young kid he used to do somersaults and back flips for the neighbours for a pocket full of change which he gave to his mum for food. He’s a street fighter ok.

  47. nigel tufnel

Tunny interesting about Alexis, didnt know that.

Get ready for media and refs to start giving chelsea all the benefits, so they can play the unbeaten story as long as they can…

Its the medias dream, all the, can they do it ?crap. Get used to it. And the refs will be under such pressure not to make a decision against them…

  48. tunnygriffboy

I’m hoping that Ramsey being eased back as well. We’ll know midweek. Re a little tinkering you’re right 4-2-3-1 with Ramsey as b2b with Alexis, Theo, Ozil and either Welbz or L’oreal up top. That is a handful. Jack, Santi and Ox have to fight and perform to get in the side unless we rotate.

Anyone take Pedro for Santi or do we need another playmaker ? First we have to get a CM and defensive cover.

  49. DaleDaGooner

Ha ha alex cutter, i’m sure most on here think of you as the thick one, spell it outfor yourself you miserable, lost toss pot. Again, what do you know anyway, you moron.

  50. Cesc Appeal

You’re giving him the benefit of the doubt….never!!! 😉

I wouldn’t take Pedro over him, more interested in Tadic or Coutinho.

My main worry is Wenger is going to ram Wilshere down our throats again mid week/next week.

The stats simply don’t lie. Nor do our eyes.

  51. Wallace

fuck man, not seen Dortmund since they dicked us, but they’re swarming all over Bayern. poor Alonso isn’t getting a second on the ball.

  52. DaleDaGooner

Alex cutter proves he’s one of those idiots by taking offense. He’s probably and angry totnum supporter cause how else can you explain a gooner saying a player we signed and needed too good for the club or other team mates cause he is inspiring?
