What’s going on Arsenal… what the hell is going on!

WE JUST SIGNED SANCHEZ

This is incredible.

We had a problem…

We addressed it…

We did it early…

This is amazing. Arsenal finally learned their lessons. Arsenal finally won a summer. Arsenal just showed the world they’re a grown up outfit.

This is what happened when I told Thomas Mueller.

What a fucking loon…

Alexis Sanchez is a proper signing. What I like about him is he’s exactly the sort of player Wenger used to sign back in the day. He’s not a superstar like Ronaldo or Messi, he’s a player on the verge of super stardom. He’s gone to Barca and has had a pretty bad time of it, now he has to find somewhere to put himself back on top.

For me, we’re the club that makes him. He’s this decades Thierry Henry. He’s on the cusp of greatness, he’ll find that greatness with us… if he works out, he’ll forever be synonymous with Arsenal. That’s why it’s so exciting. The best is yet to come, his big moments are Arsenal moments.

Arsenal just knocked it out of the park. Forget Cesc, forget Diego Costa, forget anything anyone else has done this summer… we just bought the player every Premiership fan is drooling over.

I can’t tell you how over the moon I am.

I’d been told that we were after him at the start of June. My big concern was that I’d been told similar things last summer. Were our ambitions going to be too big again? We went hard last summer and everything fell through. So it was a worry that we were doing the same thing this time around… but we’ve pulled it off this time.

Could we have done it last year? Probably not. What’s changed? Well, I think we’re a far more attractive proposition now. Ozil was the watershed moment, once we landed him, we became a brand in the eyes of great players. Then factor in the emergence of Aaron Ramsey and all of a sudden, people outside Arsene can buy into the vision and the story.

Spending money is how you build success, but spending it wisely is how you make the best impact. I think Arsene has spent £30m and he’s bought a lot of value.

How do  we kick on from here?

We need a defensive midfielder, a centre back and a keeper capable of being number one. Make that happen, let Shad Forsythe make his mark and it’s hard not to put us down as title contenders.

Incredible events…

Also, what a great day for Puma. They launched on the day Sanchez arrived to sign. There were some last minute hold ups on the deal yesterday, so it was touch and go, but what a way to intro our new number 17!

Björn Gulden, Chief Executive Officer at PUMA said, “This evening was a momentous occasion for PUMA, and one we have looked forward to for some time. Many people here have been working hard towards this moment and I’m sure Arsenal fans around the world will be excited by the kit designs, as well as the training and fanwear collections.  It is a privilege working with Arsenal, not just because of the stature of the club but also the integrity of its people.  I am absolutely sure this is the start of a long and prosperous relationship for both PUMA and Arsenal.”

Arsène Wenger, Manager of Arsenal FC added, “This is a big day for Arsenal.  It is the start of our new partnership with PUMA and everyone here is extremely happy with how things are developing.  We like the performance innovations PUMA is creating for our playing and training kits and have real confidence in the support they will give us as our technical partner.  Today is a landmark in our club’s history as we look ahead to the upcoming season.”

I missed the kit launch yesterday, but the water projection video with the back drop of the London Eye was pretty spectacular work from Ogilvy. No messing from Arsenal. I’d imagine the marketing department at Arsenal have had to sign people off with stress this week… first times they’ve had something to work with in a while!

On the kits, I love them. The blue kit is really smart with the double button down and the rest are bright, modern and too tight for people who shouldn’t be wearing football shirts.

If I was 14  years old, I’d be all over the shirt.

My dad wants one, what a joke. However, joke is on him… he wants Alexis on the back… that’s my mums name. What a total LOL. Having your wife’s name on your back. Totally hen pecked.

Also, just a quick note to all the melts who keep saying to me, ‘Arsene Wenger is so incredible for signing Sanchez’, get a grip. He’s paid £8m a year, he’s one of the highest paid managers in the world, he should be making signings like this. It’s exactly what I’ve wanted him to do for years. I’m not going to give him a round of applause and tweet #OneArseneWenger because he’s done his job properly. However, I will keep those Speedo pics under wraps. He’s made the right moves so far. He has the fans off his back if things start going wrong because he’s put effort into his squad. He’s improved us. He’s kicked on. He’s tried something different and we all love it.

Progress. It’s a beautiful thing.

HAVE A GREAT DAY AND MAYBE CELEBRATE SANCHEZ WITH A LUNCH TIME BURRITO AS IT’S THE ONLY SOUTH AMERICAN FOOD I KNOW

    @Arsene’s Nurse

That’s why I’d be a) nervous b) surprised and c) curious if we signed Khedira, even more so now we’ve lost Sagna,

If you look at Wenger’s history, he’s used a DM or tried to have a DM for most of it, Arteta had the skill-set for it.
But of course, we play with 5 across the middle now, and we’ve never really had someone with the energy of Ramsey since Vieira’s heyday so who knows

  2. Cesc Appeal

    Ivan Gazidis:

“We’ve pulled off a good one with Alexis Sanchez, but there’s more work to be done,” the chief executive told Arsenal Fan TV.

When asked if a holding midfielder was his next priority, he replied: “I’m not going to talk about it until it’s done. I’ve got to get back, we’ve got more work to do.”

  3. Marko

Can’t believe Keylor Navas is heading to Bayern to sit on the bench. He was the second best keeper in La Liga after Courtois last season. No matter what Neuer plays 95% of games for them so why would he go there? We should of tried 8 millions a snip for the likes of him

  4. Alfie

    ” I don’t think a simple apology was enough”

What would you propose I do?

Get a grip. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.

  5. salparadisenyc

    Cesc

Dare I say Gazidas sounds a bit possessed there. A real General on a mission to give his field commander all the ammunition needed to conquer.

Press on indeed Sir, lets storm the castle.

    Sal –
I’m thinking, the new puma shirt would make a great bicycle top. Maybe the yellow or red for the brightness factor. I like the 3rd kit the best but don’t want to be hit by a car. Happened once…….. long story short, have no desire to fly thru the air like superman again. 🙁

  7. nigel tufnel

    Amazing day here yesterday.

Brilliant, honest comments by london gunner and many others. obvious now that Arsene never really had the money to spend.
Finally got the cash, and look what he’s done. Kept his word about spending big on great players as soon as he could.

Jobs not done, must learn to rotate, but a draw he is when luring players. He’s a legend to many great players who grew up watching his teams.
He speaks all of their languages, and communicates a vision for the future of Arsenal, a style of play, and many things we were too cynical to trust him on when he was helping pay for the stadium.
Yes, buying low, selling high, and somehow keeping us receiving that vital champions league money, which got us to this point now.
Pedros friend Gazidis deserves an apology to me. I thought he was a slick businessman/politician type, always saying the right things like an advertising man.
I think I was probably wrong. He and Arsene showed discipline and patience, thats what theyre paid for, I know. On their way with their vision, who knows if we’ll succeed, but it will be fun to watch.

  8. Bero

Is the dream becoming a reality before our eyes? …replacing Sagna well, Sanchez and Khedira would be serious intent over seasons past. Maybe this is genuinely what we’ve all been waiting for?

  9. Bergkamplegend

“Gazidis deserves an apology to me. I thought he was a slick businessman/politician type, always saying the right things like an advertising man. I think I was probably wrong”

I honnestly prefer to wait until the end of the transfer window for agree with that lol

  10. Nasri's Mouth

nigel tufnel: obvious now that Arsene never really had the money to spend.

obvious? or just that he always wanted to keep an excessive reserve ?

Because if we buy Khedira for 20m euros, a new CB and a back up keeper for a few millions, the amount we’ll have spent compared with the increase in our revenue will mean we’ve still got loads in the bank

  11. MidwestGun

2 friends meet in the middle of the street in front of a house. One side of the house is painted red, the other white. One says the house is white, the other
says it is red. Who is correct? The answer is they are both wrong. The house is painted both colors red and white. If you don’t see the bigger picture, you aren’t seeing the truth.

And that’s how I feel about Arsene Wenger.

  12. N5

Midwest, I think the racist comments were in reference to when Alfie joined here and is just a bit of silliness towards those that called him it.

I did say yesterday about sal being a top fella and that Alfie shouldn’t talk to him rudely, but I understand why you are getting annoyed with it all as there are a lot of wanker posters.

But I honestly think, Alfie isn’t one of them.

  13. salparadisenyc

As Pedro stated, nice to see the board and Wenger finally doing their job in the manner it requires. Seems a few lessons learned over the past couple years.

Many twists left in this transfer window, lets save our final assessment for Sept 1. Sanchez does not erase Kim Kallstrom, January or the previous shallow transfer seasons we’ve all endured. Back to Kallstrom pretty good indication Khedira or Lars Bender are coming in imho.

Regardless of where we line Sanchez up, still short a CF imo. Depth seems to always be the achilles, hope that can be added to the “lessons learned.”

Make no mistake, Im absolutely thrilled with Sanchez, top top signing. Could be ideal depending on how we line up.

  14. Nasri's Mouth

    @Bergkamplegend

It’s pretty damn cheap, but that was what some of the Spanish press were saying RM wanted for him a week ago.

Remember he’s out of contract next summer and he’s refusing a new deal

  15. WengerEagle

Quick question, will it be ‘Alexis’ or ‘Sanchez’ on the back of his shirt?

On his Barca jersey he had Alexis but on his Chile jersey he has Sanchez.

  16. Goonergirl

    Hello Mid

Thanks for sticking up for me lol. Not sure what’s Alfie’s problem. Apparently it was meant to be funny. But I rather choose to not respond to posts like that. And getting hit off your bike by a car must have been a bad one.

  17. salparadisenyc

    Boys

I’m really not to bothered by Alfie’s comments, you shouldn’t be either.

Anyone in this space that goes into this zone: “You’ve never been to the Emirates.”
I generally can’t be bothered with reading their fine work. Holy pedantic, a pissing contest pointed at being a more fervent supporter.

  18. N5

Mid and you’re welcome too mate, that is your prerogative.

I’ve fallen out with enough people on here to understand how some people can rub you up the wrong way.

  19. Craigy

Have a read of this pathetic Liverpool cunt, ripping right in to Sanchez and arsenal, what a jealous fuck head, quite embarrassing ha ha

  20. MidwestGun

Ya, you have a point. But it wasn’t cool. Your like the Pirlo of this site.

    Ggirl –
No worries. Hard to tell how thick some people’s skin is tho. You seem to have the right attitude. The bike/car thing happened when I was young and flexible. If it happened now. Probably, turn into a Diaby situation. 😕

  21. Savage

2nd Sanchez interview video up on .com

He was asked if he preferred scoring or assisting. He said he enjoyed both, but ultimately his best feeling was winning. Then he spent the rest of the interview talking about winning and winning and winning and winning. Not sure if he was told to say this, or if he just has a winning mentality?

  22. Bergkamplegend

“Why not he is out of contract next year apparently ?”

Because Perez is a greedy cunt ?? lol

  23. Bero

Sanchez, Khedira, Debushy, keep Campbell, keep TV5, keep Cazorla…

    Not the worst summer ever.

I think this could be a big year for the Ox too…

  24. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

    Cesc

Read the same thing… Think it was on the mirror site.

What’s all this talk of jack going to fulham for a month or three?

    To get him match fit
You can do short term month loan with championship teams.

  25. Bero

    Chez
    Debu – Mert – Kos – Gibbs
    Khedira – Rambo
    Sanchez – Ozil – Ox
    Remy

This would be a great starting line up for the new season for me.

  26. TitsMcgee

Germans have the best side in the tournament without doubt.
Hopefully the game is played out in a manner to exhibit this.
Be sad to see an Argentinian side with 10 men behind the ball, one of which is Messi.”

    Agree 100%.

I am backing Germany clearly but nothing would be more frustrating to see negative tactics in a WC Final FFS.

  27. Ziebell

    Pedro,

I’ve never understood the position that Wenger free willingly chose austerity. He free willingly chose sensible use of money certainly and self sustainability yes, but I cannot fathom why anyone would first ‘choose’ to spend and succeed, then for years and years choose not to spend and fail, and then randomly choose to spend again.

What are the motivations behind those choices Pedro, if they are indeed choices and not restrictions?

  28. MidwestGun

    Savage –
Based on his history, I think Sanchez just has a winning mentality. Every club he has played for has had succes while he was there. Colo-Colo, River Plate, Barca. We definately need some of that mentality. FA cup was important for that reason.

  29. Insomnia

    It’s great isn’t it?

I mean great to feel a bit optimistic at last. I’ve never been an AKB or any acronym – been a fan since I was a kid in the 70s.

The good years under wenger were like a dream. Great players great football. I hoped they would come again but I doubted a lot.

I don’t mind saying that I am a bit emotional about feeling things are changing. I love this stupid aggravating wonderful club so much.

I don’t expect we win everything but just want to finally be able to relax a bit more about our prospects. Just to be able to enjoy being an arsenal fan…

  30. TitsMcgee

Certainly sounds more pointed and focused than the normal “escalation in financial fire-power” or “we’ve kept some powder dry” comments we’re use to.

The “I’m not going to talk about it until it’s done” comment when asked about a CDM makes me think we’re actually in talks with a club now for a player.

As someone already said, Sanchez, Khedira, Manquillo, Debuchy, Remy, keep Vermaelen (who did new shirt pictures as well) and bring Campbell in is a pretty good summer in my book.

If Shad Forsyth can have a positive impact then we’re really flying.

The options, ability to rotate, to adapt is what I really like.

Wenger spending £70 Million in a transfer window, who’d have thought it! I appreciate deals like Remy and Khedira are speculation at this point, but still.

The impetus is what I love, we’ve finally sorted our act out in the window, we’re finally doing things. Land the players I’ve said and I’ll be counting down the days to the season starting, really will.

  33. N5

How anyone can hate Fabregas I don’t know. He does sincerely love Arsenal. By all means blank him at the Emirates, but please don’t boo him. We didn’t want him, we wanted Sanchez and Khedira instead, let’s be happy with that.

  35. Emiratesstroller

Wenger will make one more major purchase and that will be a DM or Box to
Box player. Both Flamini and Arteta may be okay against teams ranked 13-20
in League, but they most certainly came up short in away matches against teams 1-7 i.e. in games where teams played aggressively and with pace on counterattack.

Arsenal do need more defensive cover in midfield. Players like Wilshere,
Cazorla,Ozil,Walcott and Podolski are all limited in the tackling and aerial
    department of game.

Bayer Leverkusen have announced today that Lars Bender is not for sale. This
leaves his brother [Schalke], Schneiderlein and Khedira as the most likely
options. Khedira will provide most certainly physical presence to team.

I am less convinced that Arsenal will buy a conventional striker in this transfer window now they have secured Sanchez. If they do it will be more likely
than not after preseason training and friendly matches. Wenger has already
stated that he wants to evaluate Campbell before making decisions on his future.

Whatever most posters may think I believe that Giroud will be our main striker next season. Wenger is not going to spend now big money on that position
    since he has got Sanchez.

  36. MidwestGun

Exactly. This is the tandem approach a lot of fans have asked for for a long time. Wenger lists the players he wants, as you say can meet them, schmooze with them etc when required. But leave negotiations and price to the money men of the club who deal with this day in day out.

Perhaps there was some weight behind a reorganisation of power with this new three year deal.

Going swimmingly thus far. I think we’ve stunned the football world a bit as Khedira seems also to be moving closer an closer…bloody WC in the way!

  39. TitsMcgee

    If we get Khedira,

    ______________Arteta
    _________Khedira____Ramsey
    __Sanchez____Giroud______Ozil

Everyone apart from Ozil is the most industrious midfield in the league. Insane field coverage and workrate.

Ramsey, Sanchez, Khedira are one of the most fittest players in the world.

Arteta clearly should be replaced as his legs cant handle the pace of the league and should only start 2 games in 3 weeks. But the importance of Arteta is the need of a deep midfielder with exceptional ball rotational skills and ball retention. Mascherano (who at Barca has improved his passing at ridiculous levels), Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Sahin, Lahm are phenomenal in their roles not only because of their defending abilities but their ability to link defence and midfield and keep the ball under pressure.

No mate, just a pissed off spud “Paulinho”. Been at it all season stirring, been called out loads of times even thinks his names funny.

Think held worry about their next title, only been 54 years!!!! 🙂

I’m not sure how negative that Sanchez piece is.

It’s just saying that he’s an excellent player, but Barca struggled to fit him into a team built around Messi.
Can’t see where it’s says it’s laughable he could play up front on his own

  74. Paulinho

Revvin – I hope you stick around this season, strangely after poor results you keep doing a Houdini and resurface sheepishly like a drunk after stag do when we start winning again.

Spurs downfall was AVB given another chance but fucking up his tactics again. Never learns high line in PL is near impossible unless team has gelled for few seasons. Southampton rose with the same core from the championship and have gotten consistent in their high-line pressing game and absolute best in the league atm.

Man City and Liverpool played a high-line and let in shitloads of goals only for the attack to bail them out by outscoring their opponents.

Erikssen, Holtby, Soldado, Lamela are fucking great players and anyone of them would have improved us last season, Soldado especially. Playing for the shitcunts next door was a diabolical move for them. Hopefully Pochettino has some first season wonder magic to gel them asap. They have the players, they needed the right management.

*It’s actually more entertaining to see them trail us by a few margin. Let the cunts have fruitless hope till the end lol.

“Can’t see where it’s says it’s laughable he could play up front on his own”

I can’t see where he makes any mention of his position at all.

    NM-
I agree. I read that article about Sanchez. Same generic crap they criticize Ozil for. Not enough of a leader. No shit he was playing with Messi. Ozil with Ronaldo.
Needs better decision making on the ball. No shit, so does every player, except maybe Pirlo.
Somehow the author determined Sanchez should have scored 9 more times. I think Sanchez’s finishing rate stands for itself.
Fluff piece if you ask me. Didn’t tell me anything.

It’s great isn’t it?I mean great to feel a bit optimistic at last. I’ve never been an AKB or any acronym – been a fan since I was a kid in the 70s.The good years under wenger were like a dream. Great players great football. I hoped they would come again but I doubted a lot.I don’t mind saying that I am a bit emotional about feeling things are changing. I love this stupid aggravating wonderful club so much. I don’t expect we win everything but just want to finally be able to relax a bit more about our prospects. Just to be able to enjoy being an arsenal fan…. Lovely comment mate, I completely agree!

  79. Klauspoppe

Waste playing Sanchez centrally to hold up play. At his best when he runs at the defence with the ball. Dribbling accuracy isn’t the best, Wilshere is better, but the speed he reaches with the ball is lethal.

The major difference between him and Walcott from the right is he runs with his head up and can pick out the right pass unlike our one trick pony, headless Gazelle.

I like it, a fifty foot image of Dick Law laying a brick projected over the skies of London, with Run This Town by Jay Z booming

Jack White fan? Impressed, excellent taste.

    Klaus

    I disagree

The last 11 managers have all got it right… Nmy fave was Jacques sanatI closely follwed by Christian gross

Ramos was doing ok even tho he won a cup but they were 2nf from bottom in October then the buggers sacked him ,

  82. Paulinho

Midwest – Decision-making? The fact Alexis himself told Hunter that was the area he needed to most improve?

It’s a common criticism – and usually justifiably one – of players of his type, and is the difference between ‘World Class’ and erratic, hit and miss types.

  83. Klauspoppe

Trying make Sanchez play like a wide-forward at Barca was cruel. Pedro, Reus, Walcott are wide forwards. Sanchez offers so much more and was stunning for Udinese between the lines.

Love how Serie A still play with traditional no.10s. Love games of deep-lying playmakers (Pirlo, Pizzaro) battling it out in the same space with no.10s (Totti, Alvarez, Honda, Candreva) in trying to create for their team whilst marking their opposing player.

  84. Paulinho

Nasri – So what’s your point?

I didn’t just mention his position, I mentioned several weaknesses that had nothing to with where he plays.

  85. MidwestGun

    Paulinho –
Name just about any player and you can say they need to be better leaders and decision makers. It’s like saying as a manager we are going to take one game at a time and try harder.

  86. Klauspoppe

“Midwest – Decision-making? The fact Alexis himself told Hunter that was the area he needed to most improve?”

His decision-making regressed. Didn’t have the opportunity to expand this area at Barca, which he was known for at Udinese. He was 20/21 at Udinese and was developing at a incredible rate, Barca was definitely a step-up for a player like him but he brought in to play as a wide forward in the mould of Walcott or Reus, which limits his time, not touch, on the ball.

Remember Barca cunts were praising Walcott shredding their defence. Walcott was only shredding Barca’s at the time as they played a high-line to his advantage. Problem is Barca don’t play on the break and teams concede possession to easily and focus sitting deep to defend. Sanchez was stuck outside as the centre was too clustered with Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Cesc. Sanchez isn’t a stunning dribbler to work his way in with the ball from out wide and Alves’ overlapping to run at goal surely didn’t help.

Sanchez was playing to a system complementing Messi and Barca’s triangle midfield which has regressed since 2012.

This transfer window feels like one of the most active in a long time! Deals flying around all over the place, some big money ones as well and I think more to come.

Can see a big Di Maria and Rodriguez one still, and I think Pogba will get a big money move to Chelsea. Frantic stuff.

  88. salparadisenyc

    Whose Alex Chaffer?
Looks a kid poppin zits in basement and tweeting “personal views” to me.

  89. Nasri's Mouth

    @R.S.P.C.Arsenal

Yeah, sorry, saw that after I’d posted

    I’d guess we’d pay £20-25m and £125k/wk

But he might be in the box seat, and I’d like us to buy other players first

  90. Nasri's Mouth

Cesc Appeal: That same account predicting Khedira to Arsenal is also saying Di Maria to United.

Which is a BS story, so…

  91. Paulinho

    Klauspoppe – Good stuff. Cheers.

You’ve obviously watched him over a period of time, which makes a pleasant change.
