Joel Campbell best not score…

by .

poddpower

The last England game of the World Cup takes place today, the great thing, as me and Geoff discussed yesterday is the we win either way. There’s Arsenal interest in both teams. Hopefully Jack gets and run out and hopefully Joel Campbell gets the chance to continue his amazing form.

Holland continued their sumptuous form taking out Chile and earning themselves an easy game against Brazil in the next round. Bad times for one of them. You feel like that was a game we needed later in the tournament… which so far has been outrageously good.

Ian Wright has once again made a bit of a tool of himself in the papers today. He said in The Sun,

‘England players who refuse their country in football should have to call the parents of a dead soldier and explain their reasons’

I really, really detest this sort of bollocks that goes around when we miss out on a World Cup. Firstly, I really don’t think the parents of a dead child really care a crap about a footballers preference for international football in comparison. Also, soldiers are a complete irrelevance to football. You’ve probably seen the cringe comparisons in salary to soldiers and football? Again, why is this relevant? You could do the same for marketing or banking… I’m not sure what the suggestion is… that soldiers deserve £3m a year or that we cut the salaries of people who fill 60,000 seater stadiums for games that are viewed by billions?

‘Think of the soldiers’

… doesn’t make you patriotic. It doesn’t give your point any more weight. It’s embarrassing ‘yeah too right’ piggy backing. Ian Wright should apologise for trivialising death to flog a column. The Sun should also hang their heads for taking advantage of a guy who is often led down the garden path by the media taking advantage of his profile… obviously, in exchange for large pots of cash. Which is where the sympathy ends.

Amazing how little talk there has been of Alexis Sanchez, we’ve been speaking to his agent and there is talk that Juve have bailed on the deal. He’d be an incredible signing. He’d really lift out game.

There’s also been talk that Arsenal value Vermaelen at £12m, but United want to pay £6m. I’d rather not selling him to United at all. I hate the idea that Van Gaal would have a plan for him. I’m really quite nervous about the impact he’s going to have at United. I think he’d have been a disaster at Spurs without cash… not sure how he can be a disaster at United with £150m cash…

Right, that’s about it from me… have a great day.

cant decide if liverpool are winning because of the suarez bite, or losing,,

his value will plummit after this i reckon, it shows he simply cannot learn, even after a 10 match ban, which club will outlay 70 or 80 million for someone who could do something and get banned for half a season

but pool could be happy as it means that he unlikely to leave

but what are the other players gonna say to him when they get back to training? could cause some majorly bad vibeage

  2. WengerEagle

‘Ps: I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that a Suarez representative turns up at FIFA HQ to see Slack Bladder with a suitcase full of cash.’

I wouldn’t put anything past that utter sciumbag.

  3. kwik fit

Interesting that Suarez was odds on to leave Liverpool before the bite now he’s odds on to stay. So I think their enjoying it up in scouseland.

  4. Bamford13

Any chance anyone thinks Jovetic could thrive as our CF? He seems to be fourth choice at City, but he also seems to have everything it takes to be a top tier striker.

If we could get him for, say, £22m, could that be a smart move? I’m perplexed by how few good options there seem to be for CFs.

Other than Benzema — if he were actually available — there’s something not quite right about all of the other available options. Cavani, price. Balotelli, issues. Benteke, crocked. Lukaku, meh. Mandzukic, meh.

Bony just scored for Ivory Coast. Perhaps we should look at him. Have never thought he’s quot polished enough, but what do I know? 😉

  5. WengerEagle

Adrian Ramos’ final pass in the second half has been utterly woeful.

If I were Klopp I’d be a concerned that Immobile and Ramos have been very poor when given the chance at this World Cup.

  6. Revving Kevin

    Dear MTLM
Depends if any ban includes domestic football. FIFA may only be able to impose a ban for Internationals.

I think it’s disgusting and he should be banned for a season. This is the third time he’s bitten someone, ‘ bitten’ it’s primitive behaviour. The blokes clearly a fucking idiot. Ex players don’t seem impressed at all so not sure he will get away lightly. Hope not.

The issue about the soldiers is that, when on arduous tours of duty like in Afghanistan, Iraq or Bosnia, sport, and in particular, football, is a temporary and necesary escape for the soldiers from the unpleasant/catastrophic/horrific things that may come their way.

The soldiers don’t expect others to make the sacrifices they make, but they do expect privleged sports stars to give their all when representing their country, because they have to do so to keep them and their mates alive.

I don’t agree with the sentiments about parents of dead soldiers, but sport plays a crucial role in the life of serving soldiers and those of us who never had to do what they do should be aware of that.

  8. Nasri's Mouth

No idea what a lengthy club ban might do for Suarez to Barca

If he has to miss 20 games, then his value to Liverpool also drops, and possibly he’s just too poisonous for them.

Given that he’s got massive issues with how the English press treat him, I can’t see him wanting to stay at Liverpool after this, because if he thought it was bad before (it wasn’t) it’s going to be really bad now. He could force a move

And of course we want him to move to Barca

  9. MidwestGun

    Bamford-
I like Jovetic as a player. But more as a second striker. Not sure about lone CF. Plus he seems to be injured often. I agree CF options are very disappointing. Still like Balotelli but I admit it’s a risk. Bony is a poacher. Not really refined like you said.

Reus and Sanchez ? Seems like an option, I suppose.

  10. Arsene's Nurse

What a WC! This is the best I think I can remember and I had my Spain 1982 wall chart as a kid.

  11. Al

What a perfect day for Arsenal. …
    Italy out… get balotelli done

Ivory Coast out……get serge aurier done
Surrey suspended. .. ….Liverpool sell to Spanish club

    Haha

  12. Revving Kevin

No thanks to Balotelli don’t get all the hype. The blokes head goes down too easily and then he’s a liability. He proved it again today and had to be subbed. He’s another idiot, it’s all about him.

  13. TitsMcgee

    Rodrigues goal was gorg.

Not as down on Jackson Martinez as others but he’ll cost close to 40 45 m with all his 3rd party ownership.

  14. Al

How bad was the defending. ….samaras had no one in front of him. ..where was the defender?

Ivory Coast deserved that for the lack of intelligence shown. ..should have played keep ball not play suicide football when they are going through

  15. kwik fit

Great news for Arsenal: We will have Wilshere, Chamberlain, Santi, Balotelli and Aurier ready for pre-season. 🙂

  16. Leedsgunner

Hate Greece’s style but you have to hand it to them they grind out wins when they need to. England take note.

  17. Revving Kevin

Lots of adventurous football and then we get the Greeks. So it’s Costa Rica next who will beat them.

Some cracking games to com like Brasil v Chile, holland v Mexico and Columbia v Uruguay.

That’s that’s 6 x South/ Central American teams through to next round out of 8.

  18. Wengerites be damned!

‘Ivory Coast deserved that for the lack of intelligence shown. ..should have played keep ball not play suicide football when they are going through’

    I totally agree.

  19. Cesc Appeal

Can you imagine Rodriguez taking over the Cazorla role…oooosh

Think some of the big boys might start circling around him after this WC

  20. Revving Kevin

    Dear Leeds
Yes agree to a point but I think Ivory Coast beat themselves today.

That Greek group was probably the weakest of the lot though, England would probably have made it through.:-)

  21. Romford Pele

Greece are probably the luckiest side I’ve ever seen. Zeus doing wonders there as per usual. Tbh nothing will beat them winning Euro 2004, that was daylight robbery. I’m still not even sure they know how they won.

    Hey-ho, get Aurier in

  22. MidwestGun

    Bamford –
Ya I watched it again. He got trailing leg which you couldn’t see at first.. Stupid defending all around. Oh Well. Ivory Coast…. typical.

  23. WengerEagle

    Cesc

He’d be absolutely perfect for us, it’s painful that Tits is right and that he’ll go to one of the other big boys.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Real or Barca swooped for him.

  24. Revving Kevin

    Dear Wenger eagle,
yes the South Americas are doing well. Games against each other tend to be feisty affairs and hard to predict so we may get some surprises along the way.

What a great World Cup so far. As I said at the start, I fancy the Dutch and got them at 35-1.

  25. Leedsgunner

Suarez – what an utterly despicable human. Supremely talented as a footballer but there’s something wrong with him. Forget about banning him for the WC – he should be banned for a season as a bare minimum if not for life. To think that his horrible behaviour was seen by children all over the world.

  26. WengerEagle

    Revving Kevin

Fair play for tipping the Dutch, I personally thought that they’d flop big time.

Yeah they are, can’t wait for Colombia-Uruguay. I got 40/1 odds on Colombia at the start of the World Cup. Put a Euro on James Rodrihuez to win the Golden Ball as well.

  27. Revving Kevin

    Dear Romfird
    I am with you.

I will never know how the Greeks won that European championship. They had a bunch of players that were struggling to get regular games for their clubs. Ultra negative from their German manager(Irony) but beat hosts Portugal and the French team with Th14 and Zidane. Proves it’s not just about ability. Very strange.

  28. Leedsgunner

“That Greek group was probably the weakest of the lot though, England would probably have made it through.:-)”

After seeing England play are you sure? That’s pretty optimistic. The truth is we’re not very good. The sooner we realise that the sooner we can work to rectify it.

  29. Romford Pele

    Midwest/Revvin

You do wonder about Greece. They are incredibly average in pretty much every area but they seem to be able to make themselves tough to beat and are good at nicking goals from nowhere. There’s too much talent in the competition for them to progress fat but with the way things are going, who knows. Non-stop drama in every game. This World Cup is ace, can’t believe how spoilt we’ve been!

  30. Dimitri

It was rock solid defensive organisation that won Euro 2004, if Mourinho did the same thing you’d call it a tactical masterclass, so go suck a dick. It’s embarrassing all the money that goes into the English game and yet the Greeks train on goat farms and have still won more within the last 40 years.

  31. Revving Kevin

    WE,
I guess it’s still early days. Columbia are a fair bet, as I said when these SA teams play each other it can go either way. I can’t see the Greeks beating Costa Rica but having said that they do seem to have Lady Luck looking down on them.

That Brasil v Chile game could get hot.

  32. Ozy

First things first, James Rodriguez has been one of the, if not the best player of the world cup so far. Absolutely phenomenal player. Outstanding. Wasting his talent away in Monaco.

Another thing, I hate all of this “Suarez is a despicable human being” trash talk. He bit a player, right. He’s got mental issues. Something’s not quite right there. But he’s an outstanding football player and apparently a great person off pitch. He takes out his anger in weird ways but that doesn’t make him a despicable human being. I still like him, I still root for him and I feel for him. The love and passion he has for the game and for his team is impressive. He bit somebody, he did not murder a kid in the stands. Chill out people.

It’s true, there is an animosity against Suarez in the media, ESPECIALLY the English media.

  33. Revving Kevin

Dimitri, calm down mate, people have opinions. And for what it’s worth, you will never see me praise that wank*r Mourinho, best leave that to our trolls and bitches.

And 2004 congratulations to you but it wasn’t great football it was a total bore fest.

Ps: you did get lucky today with that late pen and to be in a sift group 🙂

  34. TitsMcgee

TitsWhat do you make of the lad?”

To sum it up: He is the Tits lol.

Oscar with a little Messi to him.

Throw 40m at Monaco and see if they bite. I think he’s pretty much cant miss.

  35. Wengerites be damned!

Statistics…Chile is the team the suffers most fouls in this WC. The second is Brasil.

  36. WengerEagle

I don’t buy the Greece were in a shit group talk.

Colombia are a top quality side and Ivory Coast and Japan are two decent sides and certainly no mugs.

    Congratulations to Greece.

  37. Ozy

WengerEagle, they lost in a spectacular fashion and tied against a shit Japan side. Then they only barely beat Ivory Coast, the big bottlers, through a shoddy penalty.

There’s nothing to congratulate. The football gods were on their side.

  38. N5

“Greeks train on goat farms and have still won more within the last 40 years.”

Picking the first Greek team that comes to mind. Do Panathinaikos players all learn they’re trade on a goat farm? or was you just talking rubbish?

  39. salparadisenyc

What a bizarre day in the world cup.
Truly the good the bad and the ugly.

A couple teams sent packing that should probably still be in the competition.

  40. WengerEagle

    Tits

Haha agree mate and that’s actually a pretty decent description. He’s better than Oscar IMO and if he was Brazilian would start ahead of him.

We have to at least try to get the lad. Too talented to pass up and would solve our LW problem instantly.

  41. Revving Kevin

    Ozy
“I still like him, I still root for him and I feel for him. The love and passion he has for the game and for his team is impressive. He bit somebody, he did not murder a kid in the stands”

Not sure anyone is claiming he murdered anyone. Why so defensive?

Fact is that biting players is unacceptable behaviour. To do it once is bad but three times?

He might be a nice guy but they said the same thing about Ed Kemper the serial killer. He killed a load of kids then his own mother.

You can’t go around being all soft about these people, they make their own choices.

    There is no excuse.

He needs to be taught a lesson, as others have said you can’t have kids seeing that and thinking it’s okay.

I am with those who say a one season ban.

    What would you do?

  42. Dimitri

Columbia are one of the best teams in the tournament, and Ivory Coast are no slouches either, so really we weren’t exactly facing a much harder group than England had. Italy have been shit without a number 10 to link everything, but it’s the same old story.

The sad reality is that if Messi was born in Romford he’d have never become a professional footballer. They’re too obsessed with the Hovis Farm workers like James Milner to appreciate real art.

There was no luck about how we won it. Luck lasts one or two games, it doesn’t last an entire tournament.

I think we can beat CR but after that I doubt we’ll go further.

  43. Dimitri

N5 it was a slight overexageration. Don’t try and tell me you’re going to get all PC on that one too and tell me how I’m offending the goats now or something.

  44. N5

Sorry but that was a shit group. Before thevWC everyone said it was the weakest group. Fair play to the Greeks but they are poor and got lucky IMO.

Judging the Columbian players on games in that group is a bit premature.

Lol why do you think he tripped on himself? He first got tripped by the ivory coast player. Clear plenty for Greece. No discussion.

In the WC qualification games Uruguay x Colombia.

    Colombia won at home 4X0
    Uruguay won at home 2×0

    Dimitri

You are technically right, but you won’t get any agreement from an Ingerland supporter today as they bath in the glory of a 0-0 with mighty Costa Rica, whom Australia, who train on cattle stations, beat only 2 months ago.

London 2012 must seem like an eternity ago, like England 1966. When all that socialist raffle money was being handed out for sport, the English must have thought they would win forever, but Australians know the English sportsman well, it was only a matter of time before it would all turn to Ashes 😆

  53. Revving Kevin

    Dimitri
I take it you’re posting just to gloat that the Greeks qualified and the English didn’t.

Well done for displaying such grace.

As an English fan I was pissed off with the team selection for the first 2 games. I said before both that Gerrard and Henderson playing deep would never work and I was right. But no excuses, we are out and would never have won it, even with the Greek gods on our side:-)

  54. WengerEagle

    Revving Kevin

Weakest group? No mate the France group is definitely the worst, Belgium and Argentina’s groups are also weaker IMO.

Judging the Colombian players on these group matches? Mate come on that couldn’t be further from the truth, I put money on them at the start of the World Cup for a reason. They are an excellent well organised side with attacking flair and a world class talent in Rodriguez.

They finished second in the South American Qualifiers only to Argentina and beat Chile 3-1 in Chile, drew 0-0 in Buenos Aires and beat Uruguay 4-0 among other impressive results with the best defensive record in the standings.

If anything they haven’t been hyped enough.

  55. Dissenter

    Get Aurier in?

You better hope France get knocked out soon, for Arsenal’s sake.

Wenger’s world cup commitments will continue so long as France are in the competition.

  56. Ozy

Kevin, you just compared him to a murderer then ask why I’m bringing up that he didn’t kill a child? Go on every English magazine website .. on the football section of the Daily Mail, they have FOUR stories about his biting all at the very top. Underneath it are the results of today’s games.

I agree in that he should get banned. Idk if he should be banned a whole season. He should be banned from international football for at least the remainder of this world cup and then some but I would need to see what punishments are handed out to other offenses such as racism to accurately tell you for how long he deserves to be banned.

He has clear issues that he needs to work on. Maybe a lengthy ban from both international and club football could help him seek help but I wouldn’t call him despicable or a horrible person.

  57. Revving Kevin

    Dear N5
I can tell them a mile off. Well, a couple of posts is all it takes. They do seem to follow you around. The latest test is that Scott, formerly Johnty, Minnion, Marc etc. This uis a good blog Becos it’s so up to date and some decent blokes BUT far too many ‘fakers’ on here for a wind up.

  58. Ozy

WengerEagle, France’s group is the worst? With Ecuador and Switzerland? Nonsense. If anything, Argentina’s group was the easiest – Nigeria, Iran and Bosnia. Belgium, Russia, Korea and Algeria is pretty bad too.

You, my friend have a future in creative writing. How did you turn a Churchill-ian quote to describe Suarez.
Anyway, I’m sure that’s the excuse that Liverpool will use to sell him.

  61. Dimitri

Nah, now that there isn’t such a strong Man Utd or Chav contingent in the squad I don’t hate them as much as before, but I don’t like it when credit isn’t given where it’s due, because even if we had swapped groups England wouldn’t have qualified.

Gerrard should never have been starting and neither should Jagielka, both well out of their depth at international level.

Outside of the Arsenal players there just aren’t any players in the squad who are comfortable with the ball at their feet, and there is never a manager with the balls to drop the underperformers like Booney and Lampard. The cup should have been used to play guys like Shaw, Stones, Barkley, Wilshire etc to give them tournament experience. If you’re going to lose may as well do it with the youths.

  62. Revving Kevin

    Dear Ozy
I agree, I wouldn’t call him a despicable person. But someone who goes around biting people isn’t an angel.

I wasn’t likening him to a murderer, I was trying to make the point that someone being a ‘nice guy’ is irrelevant. It is.

I hate PC and excuses for bad behaviour. Especially for previous. At the end of the day he knows biting people is unacceptable. He’s had two previous bans yet has done it yet again. That is why I have no sympathy for him and want an example made. I couldn’t give two figs that he’s a nice bloke. You can’t go around biting other players, that is despicable.

I’d hardly call biting somebody despicable but eh, to each his own. What a stupid thing to do, though.. he really let his country down. Uruguay without Suarez will go down hard against Colombia. Can’t wait.

Totally agree. I think Hodgson bottled it and got stuck between a rock and a hard place. The Henderson Gerrard pairing was a complete fuck up, as most predicted. We had far more movement and ball retention with the three today.

The subs today was a joke but I predicted them before the game, it was obvious his favourites Gerrard, Stirling and Rooney were coming on.

Luke Shaw proved Baines is another over rated player, we have too many of them!

You obviously no nothing about English people.

90 percent of English people will tell you we are shit at all sports bar certain athletic sports. We know our team is bang average ovrhyped and overrated. We know that foreign players are generally much better. We don’t believe the shit the English pundits come up with as they have vested interests and are afraid to upset the powers that be.

Also the Ashes? Who the fuck cares lol you aussies are obsessed with that when in actual fact majority of england don’t give a shit about cricket! Its not even our second sport really Football>Athletics>Tennis>cricket

Fair play at being great at cricket but I couldn’t give a fuck less 🙂

  69. Dimitri

Hendo has a place as the future engine of the team, and yeah Baines was another let down as well, in fact all the Everton players Martinez was so proud of :-/

Booney is the last of the ‘Golden Generation’ and when he is permanently dropped you might see some progress, but to be honest the talent just doesn’t seem to be coming through. Players like Jones and Smalling haven’t developed the way they were expected to.

How is biting someone not despicable?

Let me put into context imagine someone on the street goes up to your wife/gf and bites them savagely? Is that not despicable

Imagine someone does that to your best male friend it might not kill them but its still a rotten nasty thing to do.

Its savage to me I live in a rough area, sometimes people get punched in the head for no reason that is despicable to me.

Assaulting anyone for no reason whether its a punch a kick or a bite is just plain nasty.

The reason people highlight a bite over a punch because a bite is savage and can never really be seen as self defence. A bite is someone whose acting like an animal a feral creature its another level.

He should be banned for a season because his done it three times if a player hasn’t learnt from a 10 match ban what else can you do? If you do nothing or give him a similar length ban it shows a really bad message for kids or for anyone.

We live in a civilised society with rules not in the jungle or the zoo

Let me put it straight though I believe players like Barton should of got a season ban at least for his violent attacks so its no bias against suarez

  72. Dissenter

You have to wonder what goes on in Suarez’s brain. Is he not aware that there are dozens of cameras across the field, talk-less of thousands of press reporters covering every game.
I don’t expect FIFA to ban him though.

It just adds to the drama of the world cup.

  73. Revving Kevin

“I’ld hardly call biting somebody despicable but eh, to each his own.”

Well I can’t stand spitting or biting, neither have a place in football. Both are despicable acts for which there is no excuse.

I appreciate you are a Suarez fan but as great as he is football wise, he has bitten three players. Three. And despite his bans the blokes still doing it!!

I believe this is despicable and a terrible thing for all the young fans of his to witness. Great example. Yes, we shall have to agree to disagree I guess.

A one season ban for me from all football.

  74. N5

At least if he punched someone he’d be acting like a grown up thug, but biting is what children do.

Suarez is the most skillful plank this world has ever seen.

  75. Revving Kevin

    Dissenter,
I think he must be thick and stupid. He has had two bans already for biting, he knows therefore he can’t get away with it.

To do it in the biggest tournament with the whole worlds eyes watching is mental.

The previous bans havnt worked, this was at the FIFA flagship show the world Cup, so they need to do something really heavy this time. It’s a shame but his own fault.

  76. Revving Kevin

    Dear N5
“At least if he punched someone he’d be acting like a grown up thug, but biting is what children do.”

Exactly. Be a fucking man, not a big girl. If a bloke bit me on a job, I would make sure I smashed every tooth in his head.

Perhaps they could make him wear a gum shield for games.

They will also need a sign on the home team dressing room door “Danger, may bite”. 😉

Kevin, I like the idea of him having to wear a Hannibal mask like others have been saying. That would be apt punishment.

Not sure Suarez in a hannibal mask would scare the kids any less than those buck teeth of his!

I wonder if he had been an arsenal player what we would be saying. Fans are hippopotamus after all 🙂

Kev if he was a Gooner I would be moaning about how the Italian run into his teeth to frame him!! cheating bastard!!

  81. N5

Yeah like when we got deducted 2 points for fighting (first team for that to happen too if I remember). The retroactive punishment of Eduardo for diving for a penalty (a thing that hasn’t happened before or since this). A replay of an entire match because we scored a goal from a throw in that should have been thrown back to to their keeper in the interest of fairness as it was only kicked off for an injury.

I’m not one of these people that pretend to be hard done by because we are the Arsenal but it does feel we are often used as an example. Suarez life long ban (if Gooner) sounds about right.

    You’re right there dimitri.

Kevin, I’ve just that FIFA can impose up too 2 years for the bite! I wonder how close to that we’ll see? I’m guessing no where near.

  83. MidwestGun

    N5 –
It’s 24 matches or 2 years. I believe it will be international matches, only. I bet he gets the full 24 matches.
I also read that up to 167 people bet on Suarez biting somebody at the WC. Some people will bet on anything, I swear. 🙄

I never mentkioned cricket, where does it say in my post the word or topic cricket. I metioned the word ashes 😉 I also mentioned the word ‘raffle’ but does that mean we Aussies are obsessed with raffles.

Like the poster says, you need to “Calm Down & Stop Following England at any Sport” 😆

Suarez [] 200 to 1 to bite someone! Have the bookies never met Suarez []. I would have imagined it to be around 1/4.
