Above Spurs. Again.

by .

Feeling mad rough this morning, and for the first time in an age, it’s not booze related. My morning hasn’t been helped by the full bag of maltesers I dropped on the floor this morning. Or the person on the bus who smells like sour milk. But hey, I’ll soldier on.

Don’t worry about me.

It’ll be fine.

Newcastle. What to say about that. They’re sitting on 45 points. They have been for a while. They’re safe. They played like they were on the beach. Times up for Pardew. What a disgraceful performance. 6 losses on the bounce. Incredible. Shows how much those players respect him.

The Arsenal players looked embarrassed for them at times. Ozil and Ramsey sat in second gear and destroyed Newcastle. It was like the senior team beating the under 8s.

The first came from a set play. Koscielny got in front of Krul by about a yard and scuffed the ball home.

Our second came from Ozil. Newcastle allowed Giroud to break the offside trap by an absolute mile. The Frenchman had his first save, his second fell to Ozil who tapped home with ease.

In the second half, more good play from Ramsey and Ozil saw the German fizz a delightful ball onto the head of Giroud who nodded in for his first of the night.

So that was that. If City beat Everton, which I suspect they will. We retain 4th spot again. Hooray!

I can’t stress the importance of top four, even if we can’t the Champions League.

Key points from the game are standard.

Giroud really does need to be our second choice striker. He’s not fast enough not is he anywhere near the quality of finisher we need at the highest level. A top class striker would have had a hattrick last night. He’s not top quality. We need top quality.

The team is better when Ozil and Ramsey are in it. That much is clear. Not sure why people are peddling that like it’s a surprise. Every team is better with their best players. What Arsene is doing is performing a terrific job of indicating bad luck prevented the league win this year. Trouble is, he’ll have half the fanbase fooled. They don’t understand the basics of how injuries occur, they don’t dig into the detail and to them, that’s right, poor old Wenger was mugged by Lady Luck.

It’s cynical and it’s nonsense. Wenger’s management style injures players. His lack of a squad means we can’t cover this injuries. So whatever way you look at it, he’s the man at fault. Not Lady Luck.

Amazing how good he is at spinning things to suit his vision. Much like the ‘we had to sell to survive’ which we now know wasn’t true.

In other news, Spurs can no longer finish above us. Hooray again. An earlier celebration this year. Last year it was the final day. Always a good feeling. I guess the reason it feels a bit flatter this year is because we’d have preferred to be celebrating the day no other team in the league could finish above us.

Anyway. A lovely three points. One more game to go at home. Then we’re done for another season at The Grove. Amazing how quickly the year has passed.

See you in the comments.

  1. Thank you and goodnight

Guys my little ones being bullied at school, missus has just had a go at me as I went round this kids house looking to have a little word with his dad but he wasn’t in. This guys son is a horrible little shit, and he’s been bullying most of the other kids. How would you lot deal with it if you don’t mind me asking.

  2. Dissenter

Kanu spoke publicly about Wenger’s pro-French bias [notice I didn’t remotely suggest that he’s anti- anybody]
Its worked for him when they were excellent French players competing against excellent alternatives.
However there is no way anyone can rationally explain giving Sanogo so many games when there are better alternatives within our youth system.
Wenger is also killing off our youth teams by vaulting him ahead of a better youth player.
When Adebayor came initially, you could see his off the ball movements, dribbling ability and sheer athleticism were exceptional. Sanogo does nothing well to suggest he should be anywhere near our first team.
I should stop because the more I think of it, the more I find myself hating Wenger more.

  3. tunnygriffboy

I’d had a bizarre thought that with Jonkers and his Dutch staff heading the academy then perhaps DeBoer and DB10 may have come to us after Ajax. I can’t stomach the thought of Bergkamp going to spuds

Liverpool will have to strengthen their squad considerably next season, they have no depth. I know they will have some but they are operating at a big loss over the last 2 years. Apart from Coutinho and Sturridge Rogers has spent a lot on pretty average players.

  4. SpanishDave

How can ahybody expect to win the league wit Giroud and Sonogaol. Arteta, Diaby, Flamine, and Jenks in the 1st team squad?
If Wenger stays he has to clear out the shite players, show intent, and wake up. Otherwise what happens when we find ourselves 6th and the old fool saying he never quits a contract?
Wenger will not buy any of the players you are suggesting because he cannot upset his favourites in the squad.
The man is in turmoil mentally and really doesnt know what to do next.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting diferent results, it sums him up nicely.

  5. karim

    French football update :

Gonalons, just like Lyon, has had a decent season and has been talking about leaving for ages ( Napoli, mainly )

If Rémy Garde signs a new deal, maybe he will stay as there’s definitely something going on over there

    Bielsa / OM

Great news ! These guys needed a good kick in the arse and will get it for sure, ha ha.
Thauvin’s season ( just like Imbula’s ) is rather disappointing in spite of flashy moments now and then ( last week goal Vs Nantes, for ex )
They’ll never win the league though I’m afraid
Valbuena and Mandanda are on their way out after a year too much

  6. tunnygriffboy

Sorry to hear that. Best thing to do is to ring the school and get an appointment with their class teacher / head of year and headteacher. Explain the issues and politely ask that you’d like something done about it. That should be enough. Failing that ask if you could speak to the governers. It shouldn’t come to that though.

  7. Sam

You lot are smoking some good stuff if you’re dreaming of Benzema in an Arsenal shirt next season!
I’m so hoping Ancelotti can win Real Madrid’s 10th European cup /CL as nice guys never seem to have the success they deserve. Plus of the 4 teams left, they play the best football. I’m afraid that His Hairgelness’ glaring miss in the 1st leg might be decisive though. And the bad news for José is I’m putting a tenner on his tedious chavs to win the Big Pot.

  8. Carts

admittedly, I saw very little of Sociedad last season so I can’t really say much with regards to him; just that from what I’ve seen not impressed.

Stand-out attribute being ‘efficiency’- I agree Eduardo wasnt famed for that but he was a decent player.

  9. Revving Kevin

The Sanogo knocking and comparisons to Akpom are misleading. It’s what some do on here, pick on a player and bully him on a regular basis, calling him names etc.

Akpom was on loan at Brentwood and Coventry this season to play Senior games and get experience. He got recalled for the U19 games.

    His senior record is:

Played 11 games = no goals.

Sanogo has played senior games in France for Auxerres first and reserve teams.

    His senior record is:

    Auxerre played 52 = 26 goals

So he has more experience and a better goal scoring ratio spread over more than 50 games.

As anyone knows, he had a nasty run of injuries including a leg break that slowed his career. He was considered a top, top prospect by many in the game before his injuries.

If you compare their records you can see Sanogo has more experience at senior level and has proved he can score goals at that level. I have no doubt in Akpoms ability but he isn’t at that level yet and is still learning his craft. So slating Sanogo and calling him names is ignorant.

  10. andy1886

TYAG – I’d have a word with some of the other parents and then take your complaint to the school. They should call the other kid’s parents in and have a word. If you’re not happy with their actions you can make a complaint which they wont like so they should do something about it. Ask to see their anti-bullying policy, every school has to have one.

  11. Johnty79

I really should be arsenals chief scout.. The players I’ve listed on here who I’ve said sign and we don’t…

A realistic team for next year.

    Capella remy Walcott
    Ramsay Ozil dm
    Gibbs mert koz Clyne

Aurier is to good for us.

But come on you fools. You know wenger won’t buy anyon. Another forth place and Ramsay will go to man utd.

You never learn you lot stop torchering yourself about signings. Summer 1999,2000,2001 are the only optimistic transfer windows we have ever had under wenger.

  12. tunnygriffboy

Also if you know parents of otherr children that have been bullied it may be worth asking them to ring the school or book an appointment as well. Not at the same time though. The school should definitely be made aware of it.

  13. salparadisenyc

Beer and a chat with lil fucks dad, first option.
If hes cut from the same ilk as kid, best to give wide birth.
    Or teach your lil one K A R A T E

  14. karim

Don’t know whether Cabella will do a Ribery or a Ben Arfa
    to be fair

How about paying him a yellow card visit with a few of the other fathers ?

  15. SpanishDave

Wenger saying he has bad luck with injuries.
He gets Sanogoal who has had a broken leg. KK comes in with dodgy back. Diaby came with and injury problem, and it goes on. Insanity.

  16. Thank you and goodnight

Cheers for all your advice guys. The guys son has been pulled up for it on about 10 occasions now. Bollocks tomorrow I’m taking day off work and going to see kids dad. I’ll politely inform him that every time his son hits my kid, that I will smack the father twice. Fuck it. Couple of months in nick won’t hurt…..I’ve always wanted to be someone’s bitch. …as long as there’s no kissing.

  17. Rhys Jaggar

2001 there was all the talk about more attacking midfielders. I wrote on a BBC blog that ‘Arsenal should break the bank to sign Sol Campbell’. Mercifully, they did…..otherwise Pires and Ljungberg would have had 4 competitors each for their place and Adams would have been training up a 19 year old against Man Utd…….

2002 can’t have been dreadful. After the World Cup we signed that non-entity World Cup Winner, Gilberto Silva,!! Absolutely appalling signing. We’d have done four seasons unbeaten without him……

Kolo Toure signed in February 2002 as well.

  18. WengerEagle

Yeah I really like what I’ve seen of him, I’ll be supporting Colombia and Chile at the world cup this summer.

How has Joao Moutinho settled in France? And have Monaco looked good in general this season?

Lol sorry about playing 20 questions here, just interested.

  19. Rhys Jaggar

John Cross is telling Arsenal fans that if they don’t see finishing above Spurs as a trophy then they should eat more prawn sandwiches……

It’s like saying you should celebrate having sex with a girl with gonhorrhea because a Spurs fan at work had sex with a girl with syphilis…….and a Man Utd fan got AIDS in San Fransisco…..

If you drink Liebfraumilch because it’s better than Blue Nun, you’re still drinking absolute shite…….

  20. Cesc Appeal

Yeah my preference would be Martinez. There were rumours before and they’ve resurfaced again that Guardiola and Munich would be open to offers for him, probably is Pep going for a more box to box duo like Schweinsteiger and Thiago over him.

I’d be straight in there if I was Arsenal, no fucking about, bosh. One of the main problem areas of the side addressed instantly.

In my opinion great CDM and world class ST being the two MAIN areas we need to sort ASAP.

  21. karim

Aurier would sell his mum to play for Arsenal !
Cabella loves Arsenal, but he also loves Liverpool, Chelsea and City if you know what I mean.. 😉

Was gutted with Rémy yesterday as he didn’t show up but he did something amazing with his first touch and straight half volley pass to get his striker on a 1 / 1 situation at some stage
Did anyone see that too ?

  22. Josip Skoblar

John Cross’s article published in today’s Mirror was in fact first printed in 2005…

“But that’s the truth. That is what’s required. And, why I wrote last week that Wenger was staying , is because he is undoubtedly planning for a big shake-up and rebuild. He’s planning for next season.”

  23. Dan Ahern

Hang in there Pedro, we’re almost through Tuesday so it may as well be Wednesday which is right next to Thursday and therefore it’s getting close to Friday so all in all the weekend is fast approaching and we can start mailing it in now.

  24. Revving Kevin

    Dear Johnty or John Terry
“Summer 1999, 2000, 2001 are the only optimistic transfer windows ever managed under Wenger”

Another of N5s troll mates is back with more bollox.

2003 Arsenal signed Lehmann, Clichy, Fabregas, Reyes and RVP.

    Have you heard of them?

The amount of fiction on here is mind blowing.

Ps: if you google arsenal 2003/4 you may find it quite interesting, they weren’t a bad side.

  25. Dan Ahern

Benzema is always going to be very unlikely, but then again so was Özil.

Madrid is not a logical organisation. They are obsessed with big names year after year. (It’s actually remarkable foresight that they bought Isco and Illara this season.)

You can’t put it past them to move for Falcao or Suarez or Agüero. If they move for another galactico you never know what Benzema’s plans could become.

    Di Maria same thing.

  26. tunnygriffboy

I love the sound of Aurier. If reports of him are true we should just get him. 10 million and bags of pace?

Felt for Remy last night. Must be soul destroying for a forward in that Newcastle side.

  27. Arsenal 1886-2006

Silly season has started early with names bandied about as potential summer signings. No signings will be made until after the CL qualifying games have been played, we all know the routine but put ourselves through the same mental torture every year.
I expect to see a post by Pedro in the next couple of week’s about Ivans plans for spending big this summer.

  28. Cesc Appeal

Do whatever Arsene Wenger says no matter how far my teeth bite into either my lip or tongue.

  29. karim

    Monaco isn’t all that Eagle
Moutinho looks a bit like a mercenary and hasn’t showed much
    James is their best player
Germain and Rivière are good upfront
Obbadi and Toulalan run the midfield well
Kondogbia, I need to look at him more next year but he’s not that good
Abidal and Carvalho should do the honourable thing and retire, especially Abidal
They re far behind Paris, even if the table says different
    Anything else, my friend ?

  30. Cesc Appeal

You stole the thoughts from my brain…ya bastard STOP READING MY MIND!!! GIVE ME BACK MY THOUGHTS!!!

I did think the same, we were looking Dutchified. Possibly De Boer or even DB 10.

As for DB 10 at Spurs…shudder…horrible thought…like Jesus in a mosque…but then there are dirty rumours he was a Spurs fan, not sure how much credence to give them; and then you look at Paddy…who knows any more.

Just really can’t stomach any more of Wenger’s cyclical shit.

  31. Cesc Appeal

    We hope.

So many people instantly say, relax, it’s Spurs.

But look at their squad, and then tell me a manager with a bit of nous and standing coming in doesn’t scare you. Especially with United revamping and Wenger still in charge here.

That’s the problem, everyone knows what Arsenal will/won’t do, that’s an easy enemy to plan against.

Spurs narrowly failed two years running, but next year United will present a different challenge altogether, they won’t be looking at 4th like Spurs, but 1st.

That’s why we need a change, we want to be battling for 1st and see anything less as nothing to write home about at all. 2nd, 3rd or 4th should mean failure.

  32. Cesc Appeal

I’d literally piddle myself if we got Martinez, rate him so much, and he’s EXACTLY what we need.

Cue Gareth Barry on a free.

  33. karim

Very pacy, confident upfront and quite cheap
He might not be as solid as Bac defensively though, lacks concentration sometimes

  34. salparadisenyc

John Cross zzzzzzzzzzz suck a fart out of my arsehole.

The Spurs trophy for me is equatable to a horrific blow job, rarely stopped and masturbation probably a better course of action. Yet you proceed and grit your way through with little satisfaction.

If were not challenging for the title whats the point.

  35. Cesc Appeal

It just shouldn’t be, it’s not right, Jesus in a mosque, DB10 at White hart Lane. It would be too much to see.

  36. salparadisenyc

Full frontal Blitzkrieg to land Martinez.

Cut to Dick Law rocking up with a piece of paper.

“₤22 million for Javi Martinez, final offer. I can be reached at the Novotel Muchen Airport, i’ll await word.”

    Radio silence

  37. kwik fit

Ps: if you google arsenal 2003/4 you may find it quite interesting, they weren’t a bad side.

Indeed, they were quite possibly the best team in Europe who underachieved under a tactically naive manager.

  38. Radio Raheem

To be fair if Jesus was around he’d have no problem going to the Mosque. He went everywhere and was welcomed wherever he went.

DB10 to spuds will be like Figo playing for Real…oh fuck he did.

  39. WengerEagle

Cheers haha no that’s it I swear! 😀

Was scratching my head that Moutinho went there in the first place at the age of 28. It’s a 5 year project minimum judging by the calibre of players they possess so the move makes no footballing sense and like you said is mercenary.

Such a shame as he’s an amazing footballer on his day. Was Portugal’s lynchpin in Euro 2012 where they impressed.

Lol their centre-backs must have a combined age over 70.

I remember people on here were throwing Kondogbia’s name around but I have to agree that whenever I watched Sevilla or France’s youth teams he never really impressed me.

  40. WengerEagle

Hahaha don’t forget to bring your lipstick to prison with you mate.

(Borat voice) ‘Back in my prison the prisoner’s go crazy for you! Him not so much’…

  41. leon

I really don’t care about this team finishing 4th seams to its another opportunity for the board and wenger continue was normal which is to ball shit the fans collect the champions league money and keep it. I really don’t see much changing at all I just see more of the same. Whats worst from what I am hearing the prices are going up 3% for season tickets. Its becoming more and more clear the fans are being taken for mugs and both wenger and the board could not acre less about them.

  42. Cesc Appeal

    Arsenal 1886

Thanks for shitting all over my evening, I’m now seeing De Boer and DB 10 on the touchline at WHL…

  43. Radio Raheem

No Karim don’t do it. He had long hair and green eyes you know like John Lennon with better eyesight.

  44. Revving Kevin

Mate it’s an in joke between me and N5, stop looking for aggro. I accused him of being a troll magnet, he always seems to get followed around by them.

N5 is a decent bloke me and him have had some fun over the stalkers.

  45. BacaryisGod

    Bacary Replacements:

    1) Aurier: This guy loves Arsenal, but then again the last player I saw wearing an Arsenal shirt before he signed for the club was a Dutch teenager and we all know how that ended. The only negative to Aurier is that he’s an Ivorian right-back. I recall having nightmares about one of those for a couple of years before Bacary signed and those nightmares changed to being about an Ivorian right-sided midfielder. Also, I think Arsene has pretty much changed his approach to African players because of the disruption in January/February every other year. Other than YaYa, it definitely diminishes the value of a potential signing.

    2) Piszczek: Here’s the benefits to signing Piszcek. He’s a Pole playing in Germany with plenty of experience, At 29, he can keep the seat warm for Jenks and Bellerin, neither of whom are ready to be first-choice.

    3) Clyne: I like this player a lot. He’s aggressive, gets forward and would add to the British core. He might be a little vulnerable defensively but with Per and Kos (along with Bould) there to teach him, there’s a big upside.

    4) Chambers: Another Soton right-back, he’s been competing with Clyne for minutes. I prefer Clyne but Chambers has his supporters, and he’s been linked with Arsenal in the last few weeks.

    5) Coleman: A fantastic player, but he’ll be priced too high by Everton (look at Fellaini and talk of Shaw to United for 30 million). Quite simply we won’t spend 20-25 million on a right-back when we have a centre-forward to sign for at least that much. Let this one go, Arsenal fans…

My money is on Piszczek. It just makes the most sense with Bellerin possibly getting ready to explode.

  46. karim

Let’s not get too carried away though
Don’t wanna be held responsible for yet another french dross
    Nah, that’s ok, Bellerin’s a Spaniard ! 😉

  47. Cesc Appeal

And then Wenger grinning like an idiot after and shaking his hand, just like RVP taking credit for DB10 beating him…if that didn’t spur mutiny then we are lost as a club

  48. Revving Kevin

Yes we don’t want French dross like Pires, Henry and Patrick, heaven forbid!

Sorry I missed Petit. The French really have produced done great players whereas we have Rooney and Milner. 🙂

  49. WengerEagle

I’m thinking and hoping the same.

Bayern will batter Real for the first 20 minutes and it’s whether or not Real can withstand this pressure, hold their nerve and punish Bayern on the counter.

They certainly have the players to do it.

Have a feeling Ribery and Robben will go into God mode tonight…

  50. Al

Would Bergkamp no there just to be an Assistant. ..ruin the loyalty, love and worship he receives from Arsenal fans just to fulfill an Assistants position?

Can’t see it….think he is too smart for that. Might be lined up as next Ajax manager.

However, I would be majorly peed off if De Boer goes there. …The guy is a great manager…so either they will ruin another decent managerial prospect or he will flourish. ..

He was my first choice for Arsenal. …hope we put a call in….tell him to wait for us.

  51. tunnygriffboy

Has Aurier played international football? If so I don’t understand why we’re after 19 yr old Callum Chambers who would cost a bomb. Have we been linked to Jung and Jamat ( excuse spelling ) as well ?

  52. karim

    Rev kev

Yeah, but the following generation left a sour taste and
I can understand the frustration :

Aurier’s Ivorian anyway but we would certainly hear about the prestigious league Aurier comes from

  53. Cesc Appeal

    I agree.

The adoration when he spoke at the Emirates this season, even journos wrote it as incredible. You could hear a pin drop and then the roar when he said he’d love to coach at Arsenal.

He’d probably take the reins if De Boer moved.

  54. BacaryisGod

He’ll have two years left on his contract after this season (my mistake, looks like he’ll be 29 in a couple of months). Apparently, he’s grown disenchanted with the departures of Gotze and Lewandowski. Like you said, it’s possible but unlikely.

  55. Thank you and goodnight

Then I apologise. Sorry. Thought you were picking on N5.

2 evil minds think alike. Don’t worry that’s my plan. And when I’m finished I will drive him to the Emirates in boot of my car and make him kiss the feet of your statue while I take photos:)

  56. gambon

    Pisczcek won’t be signing

We very, very rarely sign first teamers at 29 years of age

I doubt Wenger even has anyone in mind

The old man has let the scouting/transfer side of things fall to pieces

  57. Thank you and goodnight

My mates a Fulham fan and he was watching youth cup final last night and couldn’t stop laughing when chelsea ‘ s coloured striker got on the ball. Apparently his name is izzy brown. No before anyone screams racism, my best mate is coloured and hails from Jamaica.

  58. MidwestGun

Back just in time for the CL. Who you all got? Im pulling for Real Madrid even though ive followed German players for years. But I like RMs style much more than Peps Bayern.

  59. Dobermann 13

    Thank you and goodnight

Do not touch this little bully, the consequences could be serious.

Buy your son a punchbag and some gloves and let him practise throwing punches.,he will love it and his confidence will grow, bully’s only need one good pasting and they stop.

  60. Guns of brixton

People on BBC live text claiming Pep Guardiola a ‘false manager’ and not yet ‘proven’.

one guy saying foundations of Barca were made by rikjarrd and BM van gaal and heckneyes.

  61. karim

Talking of racism, this stupid LA Clippers chairman has just
been banned for life and fined 2.5 million bucks after his brillant comments last week

  62. BacaryisGod

Gambon-it’s true that Arsene has stayed away from veterans in the past, but his recent signings seem to indicate a changing approach. Most of our recent key signings (Arteta, Mertesacker, Monreal, Flamini,Cazorla, Podolski etc) have been over 25 and with boatloads of experience.

Not saying it will happen, but it wouldn’t be a massive shock.

  63. MidwestGun

    Karim –
Ya the other Nba owners are forcing him to sell. Only takes a 3/4th vote by other owners,. They had the presser on before the CL game preview.

  64. Arsenal 1886-2006

Can you imagine DB10 coming in the summer and he is asked to turn giroud and sonogoal into quality forwards? he will probably apply for the postman’s job that sonogoal should have taken.

  65. BacaryisGod

How about a Bergkamp-Bould double act? Double acts have rarely been successful in management and it would probably fail here too but it would be fun to see. Have Dennis manage home games and Bould manage away games. Glittering football at the Emirates and no more savage beatings on the road!!

  66. Revving Kevin

How many times will Robben dive tonight? He is a great player but I would love it if someone punched him very hard. Should be a good game.

Looks like Ronaldo has greased his hair, what a poser that bloke is. Footballers from the sixties and seventies must hate him.

An early goal from Real would make this interesting.

  67. Arsenal 1886-2006

Could always try the A-Team tactics and drug him like they did with Mr-T.

I would be inclined to have him coaching the u18’s for a couple of years, they will learn more from him about standards and how to behave which seem’s to be lacking in some of the youngsters playing the game these days.
Then if he is doing ok move him up to coaching the first team .

  68. Dan Ahern

Bergkamp at Arsenal next season? Yeah, could see it if de Boer moves. Could equally see him staying behind though. Who’s to say he doesn’t get a chance to step up?

  69. Dan Ahern

Guns “People on BBC live text claiming Pep Guardiola a ‘false manager’ and not yet ‘proven’.”

Jesus christ. Do they not realise he’s leading the Bundesliga table by 20 fucking points?

  70. Revving Kevin

    Arsenal 1886
It’s a shame Becos he most probably wants to be a Manager and that will reduce his options. But as a coach he could teach so much to the academy boys so I am with you on that.
