Toni Kroos watch | Arsenal look to beat all the stats… and Bayern

Arsenal vs Bayern

The good news Arsenal train kept rolling as our kids made it through to the semi final of the FA Cup. They beat Everton 3-1 at the Emirates. I totally forgot to mention it yesterday… I wanted to go, it sounded like a good game to all those who did make the trip down there.

I didn’t catch any of the highlights, but Jack Jebb scored a penalty and a nailed a freekick… with a goal from Akpom.

Great stuff. It’s funny how the FA Youth Cup, which is a cup, obviously… is seen as a barometer for future player success. We don’t do that with the real FA Cup side. We won’t be looking at the Wigan side that won last year wondering why their players aren’t playing for Madrid.

Still, we don’t win many FA Youth Cups, so it’d be nice to do so this year.

In the main news of the day, we’re taking on Bayern Munich. Arsene Wenger reckons he’s going for it. Thoughtwhen you watch the press conference, it felt like he was putting on a bit of a front. He knows that defence is an important as attack. Wenger went on a bit of a push about referees… we’ve been dealt quite a few sandwiches loaded with faecal matter of late. He’s asking for a fair game. He also made the very pertinent point that being all PC with ref distribution isn’t good for the big games because the refs can’t handle the pace when they come in from the Estonian league. I make him right, get the best refs, from the best leagues managing the best games.

Tonight is basically a massive, massive ask. Guardiola isn’t under any illusions about what can happen and he looked super focused… so we’ll see what’s going to happen.

We’re facing a night of Vermaelen at left back, which could be a bit of a horror show. Koscielny is taking to the middle, and as far as I can see, there will be no return to action for Aaron Ramsey.

I really don’t see the point in fielding our best side for this one. The league is our priority. Turning over Bayern 3-0 at their place is a beyond impossible task if you ask me. Turning over a tired Spurs because we rested key players seems far more feasible. Now, I’m not saying put out the Youth Cup kids, I’m saying play the fringe players and see what they can do.

The hope is that we don’t get spanked. Bayern are totally ruthless in attack. They boast power and pace all over the park, but they layer that with a brutal clinical edge from everywhere on the park. One player to keep a close eye on this evening is the super Toni Kroos. He’s rumoured to be off in the summer. His pass completion rate is quite incredible. We should be looking at him if Manchester United have a chance with him. A top player who wants parity with people like Gotze. We have a requirement for talent like that this summer… don’t let Moyes have him!

In other, slightly more shocking news… Uli Hoeness, the Bayern supremo is in big trouble. He’s been caught avoiding tax… not a little bit either, £15m! A whole Chamberlain worth of cash sitting in a secret Swiss bank. Prosecutors are pushing for a 7 year jail sentence. Quite unbelievable that a man that rich would bother. You’re already loaded! WHY DO YOU NEED MORE!

Anyway, you sense a bit of turbulence at the German club off the back of that.

… actually, you don’t.

Final bit of talk is about a Charity in desperate need of some help. They’re hugely down on funding after someone let them down. The Homeless FA are run by a fantastic bunch of people who look to instil the qualities in people they need to get back on their feet. If you can donate anything to help get them on track for the year, that’d be incredible.

If you’re a bit of a big deal in your organisation and you could pitch this into your CSR Department, that’d be amazing. The sort of money these guys need to keep their great work going is nothing to a bank, but it’d mean the absolute world to people who are trying to keep the organisation going.

So… if you’re looking to make a difference, please donate… but if you’re an MD or  CEO (and I know some pretty powerful business people (with BIG hearts!) read this), please get in touch if there are any strings you can pull!

This is a #GoonerFamily moment… except not as cringe, and ultimately a more powerful cause than follower count is at hand here!

Right, I’m not actually about for the game this evening. My flight to America perfectly coincides with the trip, which is either perfect, or super disappointing as I’ll either miss a spanking or the most exciting game in the clubs Champions League history!

Morning Gents Aparantly (Daily Star) Bacary Sagna will give Arsenal one last chance to persuade him to stay after demanding a three-year deal worth £120,000 a week plus a £6m signing-on free and a testimonial.

  2. wenker-wanger

Funnily enough, despite the odds, if any team can overturn bayerns 2 goal advantage its arsenal. The first 15 mins at the. Emirates was an awesome display and bayern didnt look assured. It is possible to repeat that performance but unlikely to sustain 90 mins. Need giroud the ox and ozil to have any chance.

  3. shad

    Morning All!

I partly agree with you Pedro, regarding mixing the squad up though the flip side is IF Bayern rest on their laurels and we sneak in an early goal, then it will be all to play for really. Same case as City underestimating Wigan and paying the price.

Between today and Sunday should be enough recovery time for most of our players. I’d rather go out of the UCL knowing we gave it our all as opposed to having more rest and failing to turn up. Besides aren’t Spuds playing on Spursday against Benfica?

    @Waylander,

If that is what Bac is asking for then I don’t see the point really. 100k yes, but 120? I will be disappointed if he leaves on a free but there are other RBs that offer much much more going forward than he does. I’d try and pinch Coleman from Everton.

  4. Val Jay

Wenger going all out against Bayern to win is typical of him…going on a wild goose chase in a competition he has no chance of winnig instead of focusing on getting a positive result at the NLD..
if by some miracle we knockout Bayern and then get Real Madrid next….
Wenger competitng consecutively in the Champion’s league for 15 seasons or more without ever winning it and managing to get to the finals just once in all those attempts is a very shameful record..dont know why the media isnt saying that…its a terrible record..
    its FAILURE

  5. shad

And if AW is hoping to still have executive say over transfers and wages he should go already. I want him gone over the summer anyway if we can get Klopp. We need to start securing our transfer targets now.

  6. Bade

    Good morning

I also believe we shouldn’t tire our players & put too much effort in a game where the odds of us prevailing are much less than Wigan’s win at the Etihad

That said, we can’t also field a team that shows lack of respect to our badge & to the CL competition. So I’d mix it a bit

In all honesty, with all the injuries & suspensions in the squad, we don’t even have enough squad players to play a totally fringe side

    Fabianski
    Sagna-Per-Kozzer-Tommy
    Flamini-OX/Rosicky
    Santi-Ozil-Podolski/OX
    Giroud

In defence we have almost no options

Forward we can’t play Sanogo again. He’s too row for this & poses no danger or threat bar his hustling & running, which is nice, but has zero end product in it

So we can only shuffle the 5 positions of midfield & flanks

I suspect Arsene will field Arteta for the Spuds, so he can’t play tonight & in 3 days again. So rest him. Play the mobile Rosicky there with Flamini.

Flamini & Arteta are a too slow holding midfield set up. Rosicky or the OX there for me.

I would want to rest Santi but he’s on fir so I’d be tempt to play him in one flank while Poldy in the other, or OX in the other if we play Rosicky centrally

I would love to see Gnabry given a run, if not as a starter, then at least in the 2nd half. Same for Podolski, as both aren’t expected to start the NLD, so that gives others a bit of a breather before that massive game

If we manage to rest a couple of midfielders for the Spuds game, especially Arteta (Unless Arsene isn’t intending to start him there), then we’ll be in the best shape.

If Arsene isn’t going to start Arteta in the NLD, then I’d be tempted to go with

    Fabianski
    Sagna-Per-Kozzer-Tommy
    Flamini-Arteta
    OX-Ozil-Gnabry
    Giroud

This is a side that might caught Bayern unprepared

  7. Alfie

    “CDMarch 11, 2014 08:02:41
They beat Everton 4-1 at the Emirates, not 3-1.”

Unlucky CD – You just got burntttttttttt

  8. AbdulDT

I hear Dani alves is off in the summer why not a cheeky bid for him? Bring some winning mentality to the team.. Seems like he can still perform at the top level for 2-3 years

  9. Wallace

i don’t think we’ll get spanked. if we do score first though….Bayern wouldn’t be human if it didn’t give them a few doubts.

  10. Wallace

from the Guardian comments section –

“Romance people, bloody romance. Dare to hope, watch the match with a beer, enjoy it, reflect on the journey of the last 18 months, the implausibility and improbability of signing Ozil, the largely unexpected emergence of Ramsay, the temporary faltering of MUFC.

And if the result isn’t an Arsenal win, then manage your emotions. The riide has been fun, the omens for next season are good and the FA cup is there for the taking.”

  11. N5

6 – 0 tonight. We’re going to go over there and defy all odds and spank them! now can someone pass me my drink, I’m too drunk to move!

  12. Bacaryisgod

Pedro, be careful with the youth team enthusiasm. There’s a few posters who might start calling you a kiddie-lover and you’ve already taken some heavy hits for taking a rational position on Wenger this season.

  13. the_real_andy

goetze and schweinsteiger didn´t play on saturday so it´s very likely they will start today which is actually pretty good for us. especially schweinsteiger is nowhere near his best since his last injury. but to be realistic, there are two reasons to be optimistic

firstly we´ve played great for about half an hour at home and if szcz didn´t get sent off I´m pretty sure we wouldn´t have lost that game, probably drawn but not lost
secondly – I will be in munich. I was there a year ago. I´ve never been to an away game we´ve not won. so it may well be a 0:1 or 1:2 but we will win 😉

  14. Bergkamplegend

    Morning guys!!

    My wishes for tonight : a solid game from the AFC even if we are eliminated;
    No inury please;
    Avoid an “embarassing” score…

  15. DUIFG

Watching draxler highlights on the weekend, we have missed out on a big talent, assist could easily have scored. nothing to suggest this guy could not play through the middle.

This guy will be huge in the near future.

  16. Bergkamplegend

Another “bullshit phrase” from Arsène : “You have eight to 10 clubs who can win the European Cup and the rest have no chance”

Sorry Arsène, but Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Bayern…
Do you even know how to count to 4 ??? lol

  17. DanC

    Sylvain you’re an idiot.

At the start of the season there are 8-10 team that can win it!

    RM
    Barca
    PSG
    Bayern M
    Man City
    Chelsea
    Arsenal
    Juventus
    Man Utd

  18. N5

Half of Draxlers appeal is his ability to play all over the front line. He can play right, left, central in goal you name it the kid can do it.

  19. CrisP

It is a human tendency to exaggerately remember the bad and forget the good. We haven’t been hard done by the referees lately. Just remember the FA cup game against at Liverpool, Arsenal is 2-1 up, Liverpool is pressing hard and Ox’s fault on the Uruguayan could be seen from the moon but not by the referee 5 yards away.

We wouldn’t be in the FA cup semifinal if it wasn’t for a blatant refereeing mistake in our favour.

  20. Edwin

    Bade

Rosicky’s risky technique in the tackle makes him a live wire in a DM position. Love his work rate though. Just don’t see him being deployed there.

  21. Leedsgunner

What’s wrong with Monreal is he injured? Sheesh… why does it always happen like this?!? Thin squad catches us out again! I don’t know if Ribery is back but if he plays on the right wing, he’s going to make a schitzel out of TV5 if he plays left back…

We’ll win 2-1 tonight but will still go out on aggregate… glorious failure, here we come! It would be totally a night to remember if we turned Bayern over though… 😉 3-0 to the Arsenal would be the best score ever!

  22. ARSENAL BAHATI

I have a feeling Wenger will field a strong team and that we are poised for an evening of explosive football match. I am sure we will give good account of ourselves but it may be a tall order to overcome a 2-0 deficient against a team with such quality and organization as Bayern. Could Uli Hoeness’ tribulation reflect on their performance tonight in the same manner as Sandro Rossell’s has in the Barcelona team?

  23. Thank you and goodnight

1-9 to Arsenal, you heard it here first. I haven’t been wrong every time I’ve dreamt it. Giroud to score 8 and in way of celebration, kicks robben in the head several hundred times, sorting the cheating Dutch cunt out.

  24. N5

Finally TYAG comes on with a realistic scenario. All this 2-1 pie in the sky rubbish people keep talking about! 1-9 is much more likely with Giroud scoring a double hat-trick +2 and then assulting Robben! Sort you life out Gooners who don’t see this exact prediction happening!

  25. Thank you and goodnight

    @N5
Ha ha ha. Sorry but I’ve always loathed robben. Cheating cunt of the highest order. Makes Drogba look honest.

  26. N5

TYAG, don’t appologise my friend, I said 6-1 trying to play it down a bit so I’m glad that you went 9-1, it’s much more likely! In fact I think I sold Arsene a bit saying we would only score 6. After all, he does know best!!!

  27. Dissenter

Hope we don’t go down by a large margin tonight.
A scored draw will be music to my ears. The tie was lost three weeks ago. Schezny’s youthful exuberance cost us, Wenger can whine as much as he wants. It was a penalty all day long and the ref had no choice but to apply the rules.
If we beat spuds on Sunday, then the famous fourth place trophy is ours.

  28. Dan T

Am I the only one that genuinely thinks there is a possibility of us winning 3-1? I would say the difference between us and Bayern is the same as between us and Aston Villa. Unlikely, but certainly not impossible.

  29. Romford Pele

“Am I the only one that genuinely thinks there is a possibility of us winning 3-1?”

    Yes.

This is a team who have gone 50 games unbeaten. They’ve won 16 Bundesliga games on the spin. Have WC players in every position; please don’t make me carry on….

Obviously nothing is impossible and football is where the unexpected can happen but I just feel it’s very unlikely we’re gonna score 3 and concede 1 against the best side in Europe who have improved since last year, and worryingly, can still get a lot better according to Pep.

  30. DUIFG

Games like tonight you miss theo, you cant really see anybody in our team smashing it and scoring 2 goals, really scaring people.

pre injury I thought theo was just about getting to those levels. We wont here a peep from OG tonight, I can gurantee you that.

  31. N5

Dan T, It would be a great underdog story, but we’re going to a fortress tonight, a team that has won 16 on the bounce (I think that’s right) and have a great record in the ECL! I really hope we do it, but I’ll just be happy with a draw/loss of less than 2 goals!

  32. Dan T

    @ DUIFGMarch 11, 2014 09:10:50

Draxler had a great game at the weekend. Maybe should have done a bit better with a few of his shots. But he was all over the place.

  33. whitehall1@googlemail.com

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/10688780/Bayern-Munich-v-Arsenal-Arsene-Wenger-asks-for-fair-chance-to-finish-with-11-men-in-Allianz-Arena.html

Fair enough. Kos needs to keep his head, no needless penalties tonight please. Surprisingly I thought Flamini and Arteta played well together on Saturday versus Everton — the first time all season where those two men didn’t seem to stifle our forward momentum.

I really hope Ozil comes out firing on all cylinders. If we get an early goal I still think there’s all to play for. I heard a rumour that Ramsey might make the bench, is that true? If so, it would be a massive, massive lift. He had an immense game there last year which kicked off our unbeaten away run.

  34. karim

    Yeah Dan T

But winning there last year will have made them shit their pants enough to make sure it s not happening again

+ Guardiola is a maniac, he s interested in every single aspect of the game

    Will be mission impossible imo
Now of course, if we score first, they’ ll start shouting at each other and then …

+ Mike Dean is not in charge , so we do have a chance

  35. Romford Pele

The only area where we’re better than Bayern in is at CB IMO. Obviously we have a chance because Pep sides always wanna play football and leave spaces that you can exploit if you’re savvy. But there is no way we’re scoring and not conceding. I think they’ve scored in every game since we beat them at the Allianz last time out.

  36. Thank you and goodnight

Come on, have faith ( I find weed helps), but Europe was a fortress for ze Germans once and we stormed that. Piece of piss…

  37. Dan T

    Romford
If it ends in a draw I would be happy enough with that. I think that will maintain the momentum from the Everton win. However, I wouldn’t take a draw now – not while there is still a chance of us getting a result, no matter how unlikely.

  38. Romford Pele

“If it ends in a draw I would be happy enough with that. I think that will maintain the momentum from the Everton win.”

That’s all i’m looking for mate.

We have to open ourselves up from the offset if we’re to overturn the deficit and Bayern will exploit that. With Vermaelen possibly playing at FB, it’s a recipe for disaster.

  39. Dan T

I would like to see 2 out of the Ox, Gnabry and Rosicky start. I think we need players who will run at them. They’re too organised to just pass it back and forward and hope to find a gap. If we have players driving at them then we may get penalties/free kicks/ red cards.

  40. Wallace

we’re well capable of giving them problems. if i wasn’t an Arsenal fan and my team had to defend a 2-0 lead against them i definitely wouldn’t be thinking it was all over.

  41. N5

“Being beaten by a margin of two goals or less is considered decent IMO”

Too late to backtrack now, you’ve jinxed us!!

  42. Thank you and goodnight

    @Karim
By lucky pub, do you mean johnty tucked up in bed in his spurs onesie watching the 1st half in his room?

  43. Leedsgunner

Imperative we come out with no injuries…. we need everybody to be fit when we face Chelsea and Man City to give us a chance at least…

  44. N5

God I hope Johnty is in his lucky pub tonight! with his little parker on and his furry hood up and his thermos full of hot oxtail soup!

  45. Edwin

“Imperative we come out with no injuries…. we need everybody to be fit when we face Chelsea and Man City to give us a chance at least…”

Leeds joining the jinx train then

  46. N5

I think Draxler will be a Bayern boy by next season! Wengers dithering has probably lost him now!

We need to be more cut throat in the market as we’ve all been saying. It will hurt to see him in a Bayern shirt next year!!

  47. Thank you and goodnight

    @Edwin/Leeds
That’s it, we’re fucked now. Probably trip and bang their heads getting off the coach now.

  48. Romford Pele

“Draxler over greizman any day to answer someones question.

Great talent and potential. would love to see him and OX together.”

    THIS^^^^

    Either side of Mesut.

  49. Charlie Boy

I said it weeks ago – tonight is a game for the Youth Team!

Give them some awesome European experience without the worry if they get spanked.

DO NOT risk the 1st team when we have some tricky EPL games and a FA Cup semi approaching.

If we win the FA Cup and finish at least 3rd this season, it would be a great achievement given the lack of spending in both windows (apart from Ozil of course).

  50. karim

    Tyag

Exactly, his mom doesn’ t want him to watch the 2nd half
He needs a good night before going to school

” don t forget to praise Almighty Samba before you turn off the lights “

  51. Leedsgunner

    Edwin

Giroud will probably break a nail coming his parting or something… I really hope Ozil’s on fire… when he’s on form he can make anyone score — even Giroud… 😉

  52. Charlie Boy

I always feel we play against 12 in Europe, as European Refs always seem to be biased against UK clubs. Both Arsenal and Chelsea in particular have been on the receiving end of some draconian decisions!

  53. Leedsgunner

*that is I meant to say… “combing” not “coming”… after all we don’t want the lad to be exhausted!

  54. N5

“don t forget to praise Almighty Samba before you turn off the lights“

    Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  55. DanC

    Charlie

That is a ridiculous suggestion mate.

The world is watching and we need to represent The Arsenal. Regardless of the result in the first leg and the games coming up in the PL we need to put on a good strong performance in the biggest club competition in the world.

What message would it send out to the world and any potential new signings if we sent out a youth team and got smashed when we have a squad full of internationals ready to play.

  56. Kane

It was beyond impossible to expect Wigan to win at Manchester City – they did.

It is beyond impossible to expect Arsenal to win at Bayern Munich – they did.

Of course it is a huge ask to win there again, but anyone saying it is impossible is wrong and football is littered with teams facing impossible challenges and succeeding.

If we can play the way we did against Bayern for the first 10 minutes again, but this time score the goal our hard work and fantastic play deserved, we can go on to win the game.

    COYG!!!!

On a separate note – I am a red member and am looking for 2 tickets to the FA Cup semi final – I can’t see Wigan selling their full allocation of tickets so am hoping for some spares floating about… what do people think re best ways to get tickets? Via Arsenal direct or via a secondary market?

  57. karaul

“you offered me a 0-0 draw now without having to play the game, i’d bite your hand off.”

romford you´re my favourite poster but come one! this is champions league. against bayern. We do want to play the game. I wanna wacht the game!
I want us to finish 2nd or 3rd in premier league. Win the fa cup. And play great game against bayern. I believe we can score two goals. How much bayern score… I don´t know 🙂
We will beat spurs on sunday don´t worry about fresh legs!

  58. Romford Pele

    “romford you´re my favourite poster”

Ah cheers mate. Obviously i’m always excited to see us play but i’m just trying to temper expectation really. Forward planning and all sorts. We have a very hard schedule this month. Hopefully Ramsey will be able to help us, while others step up. I just don’t want to see us blow our load and pick up unnecessary injuries, especially with what’s on the horizon. But yeah, let’s see how we get on tonight.

  59. Rocky Pires

I don’t think its impossible to beat Bayern tonight . I would target a few possible weakness .

First of all I would play
    Back 5 as we know
    __________Arteta__Flam
    Rosicky____Ozil_____Ox
    ___________Giroud

Let Ox attack Rafinha, Rafinha isnt great defensively.
Leave Ozil forward in a 4-4-1-1 old school and target Dante .
Let Giroud knock down to Ozil and run drect at Dante . Dante will give away penalties . Rosicky on rigght means he doubles up with Sagna on Robben.
I would let each of them take a booking for doing this to Robben http://youtu.be/oKohHsaADeI

Sure Thiago Kroos, Goetze and Lahm are top class players but get in their faces Flam and Arteta have nothing to prove to us but this is a chance for two experienced warriors to show the World how good they are . See Roy Keanes displays against Davids and Zidane as prime example.

Muller/Manzuk should be any bother for Per and Kos once they concentrate .

I feeling an Arsenal win with our Germans coming to the fore .

Dante and Rafinha have ability to give away penalties .

Double up on Robben, few sly kick s no harm , get him in a bad mood, he’s fucked once he looses the head .

Close down Neur quick , as good a keeper as he is , favours right foot . Liable to play a dummy or two so be ready for that .

Let our first 11 give it their all , take of Giroud and play False 9 if we score , crowd the middle and let Ox and Ozil run at them .

3-1 Arsenal 80-1 with Per to score is 240 -1 , putting 10 on it as had no beer last weekend

  60. N5

When comments mention last years Bayern match they really should take note on a few things! A) Bayern have a new manager that won’t allow complacency. B) They would have learned from assuming they were in the next round last year to taking it serious this year. C) They are unbeaten in 50 games and won 16 in a row!

The odds of going there and winning tonight to get through must be right up there with Giroud winning the golden boot.

  61. DUIFG

Wantr to see podolski on the pitch tonight, lets face it chances are likely to be few and far between, we need a lad who can bury one.

he has a point to prove at bayern as well, TR7 in the middle for me please!

  62. N5

“You are such a killjoy 😉 Doomer!”

Lol, sorry Leeds, I just hate the club and everything about it so much! I’ll be with Johnty tonight in our Spud onesies.

  63. Kane

N5 – As I say, it is a near impossible task… but football is unpredictible and that is why we love it so much!

It’s funny how gooners are never as shocked when another team pulls off a huge result as we are when we do!

I would say the chance of us winning at Bayern are less than a year ago, but nothing is impossible and unless we give it a go, we will always be left with a “what if” feeling…

No shame in losing to Bayern Munich at their place at all so the team can go there, express themselves, enjoy the game and see what happens!

  64. DUIFG

Greizman for 18 million vs Draxle for 37 million.
    No brainer there.
Draxler is the Legrove fantasy pin-up, he’s not as good as you all make him.

dont get me wrong the quality of bundesliga can be doubtful at times but check draxler from the weekend, if he isnt skinning them widde he is bursting through the middle. could easily have grwabbed a couple of goals on another day, assist as well.

This kid has all the ingrediants of being top bracket WC

  65. N5

“Can you please ozil me with the luggage?”

    Loooooooool.

I pulled this fat chick last night, I’m going to need you to help me Ozil her out of my bed as she done my fucking back in!

  66. Leedsgunner

You and Jonty what, down at your favourite drinking hole, The Cockerel? I always knew you were a Spud in disguise… 😉

  67. DUIFG

Love how much everybody wants Ozil to do well, its as if the entitre club has somethig invested in the kid. We need some more WC to take fan focus off him, currently there seems to be a perception that the fortunes of the club is riding on how well ozil plays which is wrong

  68. N5

Although I agree Kane with you comment I do think “It’s funny how gooners are never as shocked when another team pulls off a huge result as we are when we do!” is a very big statement to make! I’m shocked when we lose to Bradford, Birmingham, Wrexham and so on, how can you make the assumption that no one is surprised?

In instances like tonight, I think back to Arsenal vs Liverpool at Anfield in 89. God I would love so much to do it tonight, I really would! and Kane I’m not sure if you read or have read my posts, but if you have you’ll know I’m always positive where the games are concerned. I just don’t see us getting a win tonight! But I will be on here screaming for joy tomorrow if we win!!

“You and Jonty what, down at your favourite drinking hole, The Cockerel? I always knew you were a Spud in disguise…”

Loooool, what gave it away, was it my slopped forehead, the dribbling, the inability to talk using syllables?

  70. jasongms

im expecting us to lose and lose badly , maybe by 3 or 4 . That’s what the head says anyway …….

    The heart say’s we’ll conquer Everest …..

    Which to believe 🙂

  71. King Henry

We have to go for it tonight. We have to play the best side available. There’s no point playing a youth team and getting hammered. Firstly its very disrespectful of the best club competition in the World and secondly it won’t do any good for morale.

We have from now until Sunday till we play the Spuds whereas they are playing on Thursday. We will be better rested than them and if we can get a positive result tonight we will have our tails up.

Nope. Just the stench of old Coq au vin… 😉 If we pull out a result tonight and turn Bayern Munich over– I’ll join you in whooping for joy. Now that would be an exercise in “self belief and mental strength” would it not!

I think it’s a bit of a myth that Bayern were complacent last year. I think they played well – I think we just did well to hit them on the counter.

“I think it’s a bit of a myth that Bayern were complacent last year. I think they played well – I think we just did well to hit them on the counter.”

It’s possible Dan T. To me they didn’t look the team the usually did, but we all assess things differently, so you may very well be correct.

  75. MarbleHall

Any complacency that Bayern may have had prior to the game would have dispelled quickly following Wenger’s brainless comment: ” We know we can do it, because we have already done it ”

Yeh like Bayern will be caught with their trousers down for the second time.

No, not all of Legrove posters are wrong.

I just think that many have been seduced by that German lass that Pedro has posted every time he demanded for Draxler.

    Think Draxler…see German titties.
Draxler is just another good prospect, that’s all.

Loooool, I like it Dissenter, a bit of sumliminal messaging from Pedders.

“The hope is that we don’t get spanked. Bayern are totally ruthless in attack. ”

I think Wenger knows that putting out the reserves or a good combination of the reserves could end in a 4-1,5-1,6-1 and he’s trying to avoid that kind of embarrassment.

He’ll start a fairly strong side with a few fresh faces.

  79. Kane

N5 – When I say “It’s funny how gooners are never as shocked when another team pulls off a huge result as we are when we do!”

I mean that Gooners seem to believe more in other teams abilities to succeed in the face of an impossible task than they do in our ability to do the same.

I.e. if a poll were conducted before the City vs Wigan game – a higher % of Arsenal fans would believe Wigan could pull off a shock result than would believe Arsenal could win at Bayern.

Maybe it is because, as you say, we all have memories of times we have failed and that sticks in our minds, but Wigan are a championship side, playing a team from a higher division, who was better than them in every department, had more world class players and regularly destroyed premier ship opposition.

    And they won!

Arsenal are a good team – we have our poor performances sure, but we can also play amazing football at times – so while it is a huge ask, IF (and it is a big IF) we turn up, play, to a man, the way we can, I do believe we can get a shock result.

I am not saying we will… just that it is possible!

Gibbs a good player. A little injury prone though.
Monreal has struggled for the last month. The worrying part he has not fared well against the better teams.. If that continues until the end of the season, we might need a better athlete to compete with Kieran for the LB spot. We can call him a backup, but if you aspire to compete for the league and in Europe, you will play top teams.
Nacho got to step it up.

  81. N5

My apologise Kane, I read that statement all wrong and you are spot on, yesterday there were tons of comments about how Wigan are going to beat us in the Semi, yet I bet if you were on a Bayern website right now Das Allianz, there wouldn’t be a German Johnty saying “I bet somehow Pep fucks this up and Arsenal are going to come here and cream us” 😀

  82. salparadisenyc

Im either very out of touch or delusional, for some reason i’m optimistic we can do battle this evening. Don’t think well go through but can’t help but feel it will be close. That said i’ve been drinking Saigon beer all day and its approaching 8pm. Enjoy the carnage boys.

dont actually agree with this in that we need LB back up, for me they just have slightly different skillsets. Monreal is a bit more comfortable going forward, assists more, has truly great feet for an LB. Think Gibbs is stronbger in the tackle though and especially in te air.

for the big games rather gibbs as I think u can rely on him more defensively, still think moreal is a good player though.

  84. Romford Pele

Dream – I think most Arsenal fans rate Gibbs; just a shock to hear Pep call him one of our best players.

I still like Monreal, a lot tbh. I think he’s got a lot of bad press recently, and, while a few of his performances have been a tad iffy, we’re talking about a fully fledged international here who is only kept out of the Spain first team by Jordi Alba. You won’t find many better around. I think it’d be silly to discard him off the back of a couple poor peformances. If you’re going by that logic, we’d need to buy a whole new team.

    Agreed.

  86. Aaron Lemon

Does anyone find it a bit strange that Akpom who is come through the ranks to a degree, is used to our system and is an England international, gets no chances in the first team, yet Sanogo, who is no different to Akpom just taller, does?

  87. Romford Pele

    Lemon,

I like Akpom a lot. He’s been at the club since he was 9. Torn up the U18s and U21s. Would like to see him go on loan to a Championship side next season, preferably one challenging for promotion.

He’s doing this on-off loan thing atm where he comes back for games in the F.A Youth Cup and CL before going back to Coventry.

  88. TitsMcgee

I think Draxler will be a Bayern boy by next season! Wengers dithering has probably lost him now!”

No way do I see Arsene going back for Draxler in the summer after passing on him in January. It’s not like his price is going to go down either. The price is the price.
