Deadline Day Disaster for Arsenal | Kim Kallstrom… is here.

The real Arsene Wenger stepped forward yesterday and gave us all a taste of mighty fine reality. We had issues within the squad that needed addressing this window and the manager serviced them with Kim Kallstrom. The Swedish midfielder, most famous for being a player with exceptional Championship manager attributes 12 years ago, has joined on a 6 month loan. He’s not played for 7 weeks, so I’m unsure how long it’ll take him to get fit. He’s also not played in the fastest league in the world before. So again, as aimless punts go, he’s right up there with the best panic purchases of the last few seasons.

Now, I’m not going to slate his ability, I’ve seen him play plenty of times before over the years. I know it seems odd that I’d remember a player so unmemorable, but he was so, so good on that computer game, I had to pay close attention when he played. I had similar excitement in watching Javier Saviola, Ibrahima Bakayoko and Robert Pires. Anyway, he’s not very exciting, he’s mostly a solid, functional midfielder… but the press isn’t great around him from the French, who watched him for 7 odd years at Lyon or the Swedes, who’ve sucked up 100 caps worth of his play.

Now, I don’t want to get on his back, it’s not his fault we’ve opted for him, but come on, no one can tell me he was the plan A at the start of January. It’s like the Flamini move of last summer, a bit disappointing (and please don’t tell me you were over the moon we’d signed a player who’d left under a cloud after missing out on Bender / Ginter and Gundogan), but at least we knew he was a good player, knew the Arsenal way and he was Premiership experienced.

This whole window once again points to the absurdity of our transfer planning. We had 4 loan moves rejected on the final day if Sky Sports are to be believed. We went for a 35 year old Klose of Lazio, we asked about Papisse Cisse of Newcastle, I think Vucinic was one… and the final horror offer of the day went to Salomon Kalou. I mean honestly, can you believe that Arsene put in a phone call to Lille about him? If there was a win this transfer window, it’s the fact you’re not here right now reading me going into total meltdown about signing a totally average 29 year old from Lille.

Now, this planning cycle does come down to two things. Firstly, Wenger does all the transfer arranging. He’s the man in charge of the list. As I told you the other day, he’s been back and forthing over Draxler this month with regards to expense and in the end, he decided against him. So the manager is the guy who dithers over these things. However, Ivan has to take some flak for this… why hasn’t he put a system in place that takes some of the control off of Arsene? It’s clear we’ve needed players since the start of the season. Where is the person at the club driving those names out of the manager and making sure something comes out the other side? We really do need a Director of Football to help bring our transfer process in line with the best clubs in Europe.

A club the size of Arsenal is better than an average loan signings. Chelsea, Everton and United all managed to secure names earlier than the last day. Why were we pissing around right up to the deadline? What happened to doing your business early? Where is the ambition and the ruthlessness? We have the best chance we’ll ever have of storming the league. It’s clear we don’t have trusted cover for our two over worked centre backs, it’s clear that Jenkinson is not of the standard to fill in for Sagna, Ramsey is out for 6 weeks… I’d imagine it’ll take 4 weeks to get Kallstrom fit enough to step in… we have lost 20 goals out wide as well as the bucket load of pace Theo brings… and a year on… still not adequate replacement for Giroud.

It’s like the manager is purposefully ignoring the obvious flaws we can see are already biting the squad in the arse.

We needed a mid-season boost to the squad. It would have injected some fresh legs into a tired set up and it would have excited the players. If anything, Kallstrom will have disappointed them. He’s not a bad player, but he’s hardly a name that inspires players like Ozil. Even looking around at other signings. Chelsea landed Matic, a player who could have helped us. Everton signed that huge target man from Monaco for 6 months. Monaco loaned Berbatov. All these players could have helped out. We decided against it…

I mean, it’s not like this window was any different to the summer one which was also an absolute shambles until will fluked the deal for Ozil.

Anyway, that’s my two pennies. I might be totally wrong, but history and a quick glance as the squad numbers tells you that Arsenal winning the league this year is going to be a massive, massive ask. We could have been ruthless, we weren’t, so we’ll have to trust the manager, pray that we don’t pick up anymore injuries and see if we can blitz the second half of the season like we have done the first.

One thing to note, there’s a lot of good will that Wenger is enjoying at the moment, I’d expect much of that will dry up very quickly if things unravel in the way they normally do. He’s made a rod for his own back. He’ll no doubt sign that new deal pretty sharpish next week as well. Three more years of this.

… and to end on a positive note, Park Chu Young has joined Watford on loan. Arsenal eh? Not many teams desperate for a striker end up losing one in January!

    @Cesc Appeal

What’s that got to do with me though?

I actually don’t give a monkeys about KK. I can understand why we wanted another body in there, and there wasn’t much notice (I’m assuming we only went in for a midfielder since Ramsey set back and Flamini red card) so he’s someone to cover if we get more problems.

What I’d have liked to see would be the striker equivalent in case Giroud breaks

  2. SpanishDave

Wenger will never change, what makes anyone other than a devoted AKB, and they are still bowing at the Wenger altar.
As before failure to get 4th would make changes, but thats Wengers speciality, that and getting nice contracts.

  3. Dissenter

    @giveusa
You said “shame on you all”
Do you want to take that back cos the shame is actually on you.
Your faux outrage is about something you know little of.
Are you aware that Maunchausen-by-PROXY means that this “nicest person you could ever meet” is consciously inducing symptoms in another person to fulfill his/her own unmet needs.
Example: a mother making up symptoms of vague abdominal pain in her child to fool doctors and make him have unneeded surgery after surgery. This mom will go from doctor to doctor, often travelling hundreds of miles to avoid detection while the poor child is being punctured and probed unnecessarily.
Is this the ” nicest person” you talk about?

gambon gets called out here a lot. This however, is the silliest and most ignorant thing I’ve come across. Yet you say, shame on us?

Then hats off to Nasri too but you had the good sense to copy it. ;).

We may disagree on somethings via Wenger but you and Nasri always come across as reasoned and level headed. I think you are being modest, you always make plenty of sense to me 😉

  5. Jake

Wasn’t Leroy Fer banned because he scored when he was meant to give the ball back. Why is it any different because it’s United and they need a goal? Surely they should be punished for attempting it.

With the talk of us having big money now I am prepared to wait until the summer window though I’m angry and perplexed we didn’t get CF cover at least during the last month.

  7. leon

    David Ornstein, BBC Sport
    Kim Kallstrom update
“New Arsenal signing Kim Kallstom is set for a spell on the sidelines with a back injury that was discovered in the medical before he signed on loan from Spartak Moscow.

“The 31-year-old Sweden midfielder sustained the problem on Tuesday while playing football on a beach during Spartak’s pre-season tour in Abu Dhabi.

“He informed Arsenal of discomfort upon arriving at the club on Friday but, despite an MRI scan showing no damage, a CT scan found an issue with his back.

“The Arsenal medical team provided manager Arsene Wenger with the prognosis, but it was decided Kallstrom would still join and undergo his rehabilitation with the Gunners.

“He is expected to miss at least Arsenal’s next six games, in which they face Crystal Palace, Liverpool twice, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Sunderland.

“Kallstrom did not train with his new team-mates on Friday or Saturday and will briefly return to Sweden and Russia before moving to London and beginning a course of treatment.”

    Unbelievable.

  9. jwl

News reporting Kallstrom has injured himself in first training session and he’s out for a while now. What a joke, Arsenal are major club and Wenger thinks it’s his pennies that are being spent instead of it being club money. Puma aren’t going to make any money either is Wenger continues to buy Kallstrom type players.

Wenger should identify players he wants to buy before Jan starts and then mgmt take over and do bargaining. Wenger should be well away from negotiations of price because it is not his money. This is best chance of winning title in years and Wenger does feck all to strengthen team, what is matter with our manager?

  10. tunnygriffboy

We think we are in trouble. This time last week Mata had signed Shrek was going to sign for 300k a week and Man Utd were back. Penny for RVPs thoughts.

God we need 3pts tomorrow, it will be a real battle. Early goal please.

  12. Guns of brixton

WTF? ? ? kallstrom out for 6 weeks apparently- thats a 4 month loan not 6! whats the fuckin point of him if hes missing the games vs the kop manure and bayern??? ramsey will be back by then, this is BS man.

  13. Zoran

How sad to see grey hair on v. Pussy, not even aged 30.
But understandable, instead of being a legend with help of Özil at AFC, he is fighting now for a place in European League.
Like this happens when an asshole wants a couple of pounds more

Bit of good news spuds and Manure dropping points

MU really looks shit especially defense
Great to see them being bullied by Stoke.
Would rather have Charlie ”Troglodyte” Adam then TT.

  15. Nasri's Mouth

New version of KK signing sounds more likely, but in some ways even less plausible.

Doubt the deal has cost us very much, but so far is really weird.

Only thought is Wenger thinks we’ll need him come the beginning of April,

…or he wont be out that long.

    Or something….

This is some crazy shit right here! You realize this is a football blog?

  17. Thomas

Clarification – Kallstrom out for at least 6 games with back injury found in medical before signing. Not done in training #afc #bbcfootball

You really couldn’t make this up.

  18. Sam

Arsenal’s best DM currently doesn’t even play, I am not sure when Wenger gonna have a clue. We didn’t really need this Kim kallstrom.

    #VERMAELEN

  19. SpanishDave

A player out for 6 weeks provides no cover at all. If Wenger still went ahead knowing this he should be sacked for wasting money and a deriliction of his duties. Hes failed again and again, he cannot be sacked and he knows it.
Using our club for his ego trip, discusting

  20. Radio Raheem

I described the Kallstrom signing as weird yesterday. I’ll upgrade that to the weirdest signing so far. Signing an injured player to cover for another injured one!

  21. Dissenter

    @Hackneylad
Someone got angry at everyone, said shame on us all because Gambon made a reference to Maunchausen-by-proxy.
I was just setting his PC ass right. It was faux outrage that had to be called out.

I did get carried away, I do this for a day job.

    THIS IS A FARCE!

What is the point of signing a 31 year old has been for cover for our injury depleted squad if he IS INJURED HIMSELF.

It’s not about the money its about the time we wasted in the transfer window, we could of gone after a much better player who could provide decent cover.

IS Arsene FC a private clinic for the crocked.

    Are we Bupa?

” it was decided Kallstrom would still join and undergo his rehabilitation with the Gunners.”

  23. salman

So the club knew about Kallstorm’s discomfort before signing him. He is going to miss 4 games at least. Sometimes I cannot fucking believe the decisions our club makes.

  26. Jeff

So let me just understand this. We gave a medical to a player we wanted to take on loan upon which it was discovered he had a back problem and we signed him anyway. Does that not mean he failed the medical? The only person that could have made the final decision about whether to take him or not is Wenger. Is he trying to reach new depths of bloody minded stupidity?

What on earth is going on?

  27. Dissenter

There no other occupation where heads will not have rolled for this Kallstrom debacle, except at Arsenal.
Shoddy amateur hour at Arsenal from Wenger down to the medical, people.

For all the glossy shit we out up out, the Kallstrom signing shows this is not a well run club in some regard.

  28. Guns of brixton

    Evan
lol! no more gibbs to keep him company, and sanago boring i guess probably complained to AW so he got kallstrom for him. . . .

  29. tunnygriffboy

If that true re KK then its appalling. Why sign him knowing he was injured when he was cover for injuries or is Rambo out far longer than we have been told. Staggering he missing all those ridiculously tough fixtures.

  30. Sam

    WengerEagle,

I think Vermaelen is a lil better than John Jensen
Well depends on who’s coaching him

and Instructing him on the sideline

  31. Dissenter

    @Jeff
    Don’t you get it?
We signed him despite his pre-existing injury because there was no one else to sign at that late stage. He had his medical about midday with a few hours to spare. That’s what dithering gets you. You’re fighting against the clock.

  32. Arsene's Nurse

Signing an injured player to cover for injured players should be a sackable offence. How incompetent can Wenger be? And we are looking to give him £8m a year. What a joke.

How can anybody defend such lunacy?

  33. WengerEagle

So Wenger signs Kallstrom to desperately add a midfield body to the squad as Ramsey and Wilshere are injured and Flamini is suspended only to reveal that in fact Kallstrom himself is injured!

    WTF.

  34. Mo

Really strange. Why bother signing him if his injury was identified in the medical? If as kwik suggests it was to appease the fans…..that’s 😆 except it’s not really funny. This is up there with “why did we sign Park?”

  35. hackneylad

    Jeff

The problem I struggle with is I can’t see any logic rationale or reason to sign an 31 year old from the Russia league who hasn’t played since December the 8th now factor in his injured… Why? Just why?

I am clutching at straws here but the only possible reason could be that Wenger signed this player just for the sake of it, to show he tried to strengthen in January, he found out last minute he was injured but because of our complete incompetence and the fact we leave everything to the last 24 hours of the window we couldn’t sign anyone else and Wenger didn’t want to look like he had left the transfer empty handed by rejecting Kim.

Instead as it obviously would it has backfired massively and we look a complete joke outfit..

  36. Jeff

    Dissenter,

I realise we must have been desperate but you might remember my post some days to go that said “Failing to plan is planning to fail”. That is why the window is a whole month long and not just 24 hours. Leaving things like this to the last minute is not a good policy and it has bitten us on the backside real hard.

  37. tunnygriffboy

    Sam

In a roundabout way we haveso many injuries the Verm may well end up in the DM role. All we need is for Arteta to be injured ( bad calves ) or sent off like against Palace last time ( 4game ban ) and you’ll get your wish.

To clarify are you saying you think we signed the Swede for the last few weeks?

In which case that makes even less sense.

Flamini will be back, Ramsey SHOULD be, but it’s the Arsenal medical team giving him another 4 weeks, so it could be 12.

    Still wouldn’t make any sense.

“Clearly we haven’t signed him for the next few weeks.

Maybe we’ve signed him for the last few weeks”

Mate come on now you can’t justify this or make it seem sensible, we could of easily got on loan numerous players with zero injuries, surely that would of made far better sense?

Why sign a 31 year old injured player who doesn’t have the legs to deal with this league?

  43. Jeff

    Hackneylad,

I agree absolutely. There is no reason why we should have done what we did and the way we did it. I think the idea of a loan attracts Wenger so much that he just couldn’t resist it. No signing would have been better because we now have to pay wages even if the loan was free. I don’t know the details but it’s a waste of time and money.

  44. Radio Raheem

What when Ramsey and Wilshere will be supposedly fit?

Sorry, I’ve never said this before.

    WENGER OUT

For all the glossy shit we put out. This club is not a well run entity in some regards with one man having so much power. From these reports (if they are true), he overruled the medical people.
The amount of leakage of information to the media shows there are many at Arsenal who tired of Wenger.

  46. Evan

I wish I worked Arsenal, seriously the dumbest management team I have ever known.

Signs an injured midfielder to cover a depleted midfield WOW

For that one day of stupidy, Arsene got paid more than anyone on here, how is this possible??

  47. Dream10

Worse part is Jack has been injured and I get the feeling we will be in for a shock. Will not be surprised if his ankle injury is more severe than expected.

  48. Nasri's Mouth

    @Cesc Appeal

Just trying to make sense of it.

I can’t imagine we were looking for a central midfielder until Ramsey’s injury and Flamini’s red card on monday. There was an interview then on SKY (?) that suggested we would be looking because we were short, so that ties in

On that basis, KK’s signing would make sense.

But if we signed him knowing he’s out for 4 weeks, then it doesn’t.

So there must be some reason why we DID bring him in.

Ramsey’s injury is worse than we think

Wenger isn’t convinced that Flamini / Arteta will stay fit

Wenger thinks the squad is going to be knackered after Feb/March and he wants some cover then

I guess we’ll see if there’s a reason. Cost wise he’s hardly going to make a dent in the budget, so I’m not really bothered by that, but I’d love to know the rationale behind it

  49. Nasri's Mouth

hackneylad: Why sign a 31 year old injured player who doesn’t have the legs to deal with this league?

I haven’t seen him play so I have no idea whether he does have legs to deal with this league, and I bet you haven’t either.

31 years old midfielder (Arteta is that age after all) makes some sense because we might need someone mature to come in and hold the midfield. But I have no idea whether KK is good enough to do that

  50. TitsMcgee

@honigstein: That Kallstrom story is simply incredible. (check @bbcsport_david timeline)

    Lol

    Pure laughing stock.

    Pure incompetence.

If that doesn’t tell you that Wenger half-asses the transfer window nothing else will.

He just signed a joke of a player that is injured. Lol

  51. leon

sorry dont wenger has lost the plot all this needed a top striker whch as i suspected was nit real available in jan yes this team does need a defender but waste 37 million on a play maker on a striker when it this already has Gnabry, ozil, wilshire, casarla ,risicky plus chamberlain. sorry dont get it

  52. Dissenter

    @Nasri’s mouth
Nothing against you trying to make sense of the Kallstrom issue.

If he was cover for Ramsey who might be out for much longer to injury, why sign an injured player?
That smacks of unnecessary risk taking, kind of not getting a proper back-up for Giroud.
It seems to me that were living like Portsmouth when we have resources to handle these exigencies properly.

  53. hackneylad

At least Ox is back he will play in the center as our box to box.

    Can we turn Rosiscky defensive?

arteta will no doubt be injured and I personally think he offers nothing, he passes back to much and yet his also a defensive liability that can’t keep up with the game.

    Problems we have

is Jack and arteta = not enough defensive cover.

Ox and Arteta = not enough defensive cover.

Arteta and Rosiscky = Very Slightly better defensively

    If arteta gets injured.

OX and Jack = zero defensive cover.

ox and Rossicky = Virtually no defensive cover

Rosissky and JAck = Virtually no defensive cover.

Then lets look at box to box attributes.

I would say on current form (for the past season or 2)

I would pick Rosiscky over Jack and Ox but Rosiscky is no Ramsey.

Ros is great at forward momentum pushing the game up the field but he doesn’t offer goals or assists like ramsey.. him and gibbs are the least composed in goal scoring positions.

  54. tunnygriffboy

Horrible feeling Rambo and Jack will be out longer than expected and that Arteta having trouble with his calves. Add to that the dick that got himself ouf means we are thin.

Hope Rosicky stays fit or we in the shit. Time for England superstar Ox to step up. It’s time he did.

Maybe Arsene has been hanging around PHW too long, it would appear stupidly is contagious.

Waiting to here the spinsters PR campaign regarding this latest transfer fuck up

  58. hackneylad

So we have a very weak CM.

A weak right wing (Gnarby no offense to the lad)

A non existent left wing in Cazorla.

A weak Strike force in Giroud.

A weak CAM in Ozil ( I state the weakness because Ozil is a player who thrives on having good players to work with withour injury depleted squad, with ramsey jack and theo out he has less quality to pair with)

  59. TitsMcgee

    Certainly a real possibility.

If it wasn’t Wenger this would almost be a sackable offence. This guy has naked pictures of someone because there is no way they let him run amuck behind tge scenes like this and not check him.

    Knowledge of football? Yes.

    Administration? Awful

  60. Bacaryisgod

Wenger’s useless and replaces great players with inferior ones.

If true, how on earth have we had the best performing team in the league for the past year?

Answers on the back of a postcard, please.

  61. Hunter

Utter stupidity,no other words can describe Wengers actions in this and any other transfer windows. He signs a player who he knows is injured,as cover to our already thin and injures squad. That’s totally incompetent, foolish and unforgivable. He takes us for mugs knowing absolutely nothing will be done about him.Gazidis should be sacked too particularly if he agreed to this loan.Just what exactly do they hope to achieve by this debacle?,is winger going to personally subsidise KK’s salary whilst he is on the sidelines?course not for someone who cares just how much we spunk on wages and transfer fees,he has just wasted a few bob with this crock!.AFC have certainly becomes a complete joke and this will make Maureen cream his pants, another guff by the professor!Bring me wengers head on a plate I’ve had enough!

  62. Dissenter

I notice that even the Ardent Wenger defenders are quiet today.
No joy at seeing a great man in this position.
He’s been around for too long and has unquestionable authority.
This Kallstrom signing, as far as I’m concerned is a sackable offense, if the media is reporting it correctly.

  63. TitsMcgee

This story pretty much epitomizes AW in TWs doesn’t it?

It’s almost like a light just went off and everything makes sense now. All of our transfer botches make sense now.

The man hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing.

  64. Jeff

    Tits,

I think Wenger is surrounded by imbeciles; that is why he’s able to get away with murder. It’s like a person who knows a little bit about computers and his audience knows nothing. Soon as he starts talking about the Internet and how it works, they will all believe him like he was an expert. Little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

As someone once said: we are three people on this planet –

We are who we think we are, we are who other people think we are and we are who we really are.

“The Arsenal medical team provided manager Arsene Wenger with the prognosis, but it was decided Kallstrom would still join and undergo his rehabilitation with the Gunners.”

So the pantomime that is AFC Transfer Window 2013-2014 rumbles on.

Wenger DELIBERATELY takes on a crock? So in 24 hours he says no to a possible world star because of the price but then in the same day decides to take on a crock? How is he being paid? In herring?

How is this looking out for the good of the club? Isn’t that at the core of his job?

Surely this is bordering on negligence? Why isn’t Wenger’s ass being dragged into Ivan’s office and shown the door? A new contract? He should be looking for a new job! Is our that stupidly desperate?

If this is true, how can anyone who loves our club, defend this?

Unbelievably sad for the Arsenal. What a sad day.

    @Bacaryisgod
Sorry mate. You’re clutching at straws. People are rightly angry at us signing an injured player to cover another injured player. Maybe they say nutty things, but the general gist is that this is a day of shame at those running our club.

It’s okay to fact-check remarks of angry fans but surely you know there something not quite right about this Kallstrom signing…or do you believe Wenger is always right?

I have been hardly quiet today! And I am usually one of Wengers most ardent supporters.

All transfer power should be stripped from Wenger and possibly a sporting director should be appointed but only of there actually very good and not a complete donkey, as allot of English clubs that appoint sporting directors appoint the biggest lemons ever.

Either way there should be apparatus in place that prevents Wenger deciding how much to pay.

This KK farce is beyond belief! We waste a good month of transfer time, only to sign an injured player – it could only be us.

I guarantee Palace will be up us like a rat up a drainpipe tomorrow – you can bet Pulis has a plan.

Chamakh will probably do a RVP on us too.

    That said: COYG!

Anyone else watched any of the Futsal on ESPN? It can be quite tedious at times but some of the skills on view are exceptional. Surely it should be a game our youngsters play more of. Maybe then we wouldn’t be so far behind other international sides, in terms of ball control and one touch football.

  70. SpanishDave

Tits your right this is about it,Wenger cannot be sacked and this action xhows how little he cares. He has no plans, no tactics, no stratergy for our club going forward.
Stan doesnt give a toss the balance sheet looks great.

I think Wenger is a very good manager with a number of flaws.

As for Kallstrom, most fans were saying he would have zero impact which is why he was a bad signing. I probably fall into that group. So his injury is irrelevant unless you really thought he could add value.

  72. Cesc Appeal

He thinks that Draxler was too much money, yet he’s going to waste £60 000 a week on Diaby this year, £52 000 on Bendtner, £25 000 on Sanogo and a rumoured £50 000 on Kallstrom.

That would probably nearly equate to the difference in our valuation and Schalkes.

  73. G787

The Kallstrom story is getting real strange. If AW knew he was injured but still signed him then it points to a PR excercise coz of lack of any signing. Another waste of money to prove a point.

  74. TitsMcgee

@honigstein: first thing to say about Draxler is that UK media were right in the sense that there was a concrete offer from him from Arsenal

He just show us who is in charge. Massive FU to all fans WOBs, AKBs and neutrals.

  76. leon

sorry but apparantly this new signing only has slight injury, all i the same shitty midfielders have thus far have defended and played very well so i realy i dont what your talking about baecause he did blow 37 million unproven play maker not striker when this team already has 3-4 at least just beacuse hype and big price tag

Keep your chin up. We are still second and still have some really good players. Don’t get ground down.

Agree with you 100% that Wenger should be kept out of any administration re transfers. Gazidis needs to grow a pair. Let Wenger identify targets and by all means speak to them but thats all.

Sadly he has the team doing really well this year showing a massive improvement but the TW fucks everything up.

  78. TitsMcgee

@honigstein: the fact that Schalke didn’t go public with it at all suggests to me that they would have sold for the right price.

@honigstein: Bayern: have certainly looked at him, especially in the autumn, when Götze had a slow start. but I don’t know of any more concrete moves

  79. Salvage

Ok guys , spare the AKBs a bit cause even they must be gobsmacked at this joke. =D

Sign an injured player to cover for injured players then prepare for the rehabilitation of the said injured player with our resources.

They do love the smell of injuries and dispensaries at Arsenal .

  80. Doublegooner

    I’m amazed he didn’t recall Djourou back…

Bet you’d all forgotten him. The one who got a wacking big 5 yr deal 2 years back
