Happy 20TH14 | Crazy rotation on the cards |Game of trust…

by .

Happy 20TH14 people!

See what I did there? I cleverly layered the our greatest strikers name and number into the number of the new year.

… why?

… because I’m giving you hope on a miserable, cold, New Year’s Day. But this isn’t false hope. I’m feeling that in the Chinese year of the ‘Thierry’, things could be special. We are top of the league. We have a the best ‘team’ in the league. I don’t think anyone is more consistent than us and I don’t think anyone plays with the same industrious nature… We grind out results, we blow people away with beautiful football, we can bully, we can defend… 2013 saw a new Arsenal. 2013 saw a new Arsene.

I think a massive hat tip has to go to the manager. He’s taken on new scouting technology, he’s handed the defence over to someone who knows it better, he’s bought experience over the last 2 years, he’s shifted out the ‘no hope brigade’, he’s starting to pay more attention to his analysts (he talks a lot more about schedules and rotations, without really doing it, but talk is a start) and he smashed his transfer record. He’s slowly but surely evolving into the modern way of the game. I can’t really ask for much more…

So let’s hope today, where he has to rotate, he is rewarded. I think it’ll be pretty wholesale. Someone said there’s no Monreal or Gibbs. Which could mean… errr… who is our child left back?

Ok, so it’ll likely mean Sagna at left Bac (clever pun), Jenks at right back, with Per and Kos in the middle.

Midfield I’m thinking Arteta, Rosicky, Cazorla and Jack.

Up top, Lukas, Bendtner and Theo.

That is a good side right? Missing loads of big hitters and it’s a good side more than capable of blowing a decent, if not rudderless, Cardiff City away.

Now, it has to be big performance from the crowd. No hangover atmosphere please. It also has to be a big performance from the fringe players. Last time we mass rotated was Hull and it was great.

For me, this performance is key to us winning the league. Why?

Because if the rotated squad plays a blinder, Wenger will trust them and rotate more freely. If they tank, he’ll get the fear, and he’ll be back to running players into they ground. So today, is a key day for the rest of the season. Hopefully the second string show the same drive as the first. Not that it’s a real second string, but you get what I mean!

Right, have a great day and an even better year!

X

Told you so, pricks! Go back and look at my posts over past three weeks. The one consistent defender of Ol’ St. Nick.

    Redemption for Nicklas!

    Lovely.

  2. gonsterous

  3. Arsene's Nurse

The most hated player in recent Arsenal history, a player who said he wouldn’t play for us again, is now a saviour and everyone is calling for him to be brought on cos the other options are worse.

Moral of the story – buy a fucking striker!

  4. Bamford13

Apologies for tone of my last post. I don’t mean to be hostile. I just get frustrated with some voices on here.

  5. gonsterous

the only player i find shit in this whole squad is Arteta !!! too slow and can never trust him to defend !!!!

  6. Arsene's Nurse

I think I’ll take a Spuds win (or draw) this afternoon too. Prefer the Mancs to lose as Spurs aren’t a threat to us.

  7. Salvage

Oh my word! This team knows how to tear and tug at people’s hearts. Weak hearts dare not watch or support Arsenal. Walcot raps it up.

And why did Bendtner have to get injured at this time when he may have earned a chance to play?

    Oh to be a Gunner!!

  8. Ben D

Gats “haha 16 attempts 1 on target LOL”…..

    Some so-called fans! Smh.

Some of the guys on here cannot be fans, no fu$king way!!!

3 points in the bag, doesn’t matter how they come, as long as they come! COYG,!!!

  9. useroz

Bendtner is a better footballer than giroud but not atttiude unfortunately.

Now bendtner is also injured so who plays striker next 2 to 3 games??

  10. Jeff

Happiness is a Cigar called Arsenal! Here is a beautiful sight to look at. That’s all I will say this afternoon.

    1 Arsenal 20 21 45
    2 Man City 20 34 44
    3 Chelsea 20 19 43
    4 Liverpool 20 23 39
    5 Everton 20 13 38
    6 Man Utd 19 10 34

    Lol

    Yep.

  12. Wengers Plastic Bottle

Cazorla lack of goals concern me 1 in last 27 games

his shots are either wayward or always hit the defence

free kick taker Sagna??? mudt of scored a beauty in training.

  13. stay dench

Sorry can we stop the Walcott bashing for one second.

Thats 5 goals in 5 matches! Guys in beast mode.

Also he didn’t have a bad game, he was a constant menace on the wing, was putting in dangerous crosses constantly, and put in a few good corners in mert should of scored from.

Not saying he had an amazing game but he was no worse than anyone else and even scored a neat little chip whilst under direct physical pressure from a defender.

  14. Dissenter

Wenger almost got this one wrong.
We shouldn’t have started with Flamini and Arteta against a weak team at home.
Thankfully, it’s clear that the Poldi CF experiment is over.

Please give Bendtner more opportunities. He’s playing to prove a point.

  15. Arsene's Nurse

I just don’t understand why we make things so hard for ourselves. At least Wenger showed a bit of urgency by making the subs at 64 mins instead of 67-70mins. Rosicky seems to spur the side on and bring greater urgency to the team.

We were all over Cardiff like a rash, but it took so long to score. Sagna hitting the target with his header caused a parry from the keeper. We seem to be woeful with getting balls on target.

  16. zeus

Cazorla doesn’t score because he has to do his annoying ‘I’ll do a couple step-overs and put it on the left………..no, a couple more and I’ll do it with the right……………….no, actually I was right the first time, the left… Bang’

Takes too damn long to take the damn shot, of which most of them lack any kind of venom.

  17. southernpeople

a satisfying victory, we’ve got 45points and another 40points from 18games should be enough to win the league trophy.

NickyB is scoring be careful tottenham

  18. zeus

Its not in question, Bendtner has far more talent than Giroud, but poor attitude.

Giroud only comes out ahead in the link up play department.

  19. Al

We really need to stop being so conservative when we are playing at home. ….There is no reason to set up the way we did in the first half.

Wilshere had a really weird game….One minute looks world class, next minute he looks really lethargic and sloppy.

Rosicky was excellent. …He really is the heartbeat of the team when we need to increase the tempo. Looks fitter, stronger and faster than a lot of our players 2

  20. stay dench

    Wenger

‘I don’t know if we will do something or not [in January], but it is not to replace Olivier Giroud – we have a great confidence in Olivier Giroud.’

  21. Jake

Bendtner will probably be out for a while but this just pressure’s Wenger even more to get someone in, doesn’t matter who as long as they can kick straight.

  22. WengerEagle

A big shout out to Sagna and especially Metesacker and Koscielny, best defence in the league. Chelsea won the league two years straight under Mourinho by having the best defence without having a great attack. Hopefully we can do the same

  23. jasongms

I’ve said it all along , podolski bring s naught to the team ……. he’s definitely not a striker and he doesn’t have the stamina/skill to be a wide man ….

Podolski plus $$$ for draxler ……… make it happen arsene

  24. WengerEagle

‘Rosicky was excellent. …He really is the heartbeat of the team when we need to increase the tempo. Looks fitter, stronger and faster than a lot of our players 2’

This, and I thought his passing was a lot sharper and more incisive than against Newcastle. Unbelievable that he’s 33

  25. Bamford13

    Bayo

Bendtner is definitely a better striker than Giroud. He’s quicker, more nimble, more confident, and takes his chances better. Not saying he’s perfect, but he’s better.

He also fits into our passing scheme better. When Nicklas plays, he’s actually a genuine part of the passing interplay. He moves in and out of spaces to receive balls and play, and he fits in more or less seamlessly with the midfielders. He isn’t the odd man out, as Giroud is. Not to say Giroud is not good for a 1-2, but he isn’t comfortable moving around into different spaces and angles, mixing things up. Nicklas is.

    Let’s hope he’s not hurt.

  26. Dissenter

Why do we start games so lackadaisically. You’re on top of the table playing the team in 19th place at home. You don’t start with a walking pace. Hopefully, we learn from this game.

Good win though. Should have been routine,,but I guess that’s why we play the game.

  27. Bamford13

    Southern

I plead for you and others to stop judging Bendtner by what he was in the past. Young men learn their lessons sometimes. I believe Nicklas has.

Judge his work ethic by what he has been doing over the past six weeks. He has been working hard and contributing.

Stop with drudging up the past, and judge a man by his behavior in the present.

  28. Arsene's Nurse

The biggest thing we can take from today is we didn’t give up. How many times have Man Utd got winners in the last 10 mins of a game. When they do it they are lauded as tenacious champions. Hopefully this win gives us the same mentality.

I just wish it wouldn’t make me bite my nails so much!

  29. southernpeople

Isn’t it too early to argue that Poldi experiment won’t work? Is one single game enough to say he’s failed the experiment?

I rather prefer Poldi experiment to continue for the rest of the season if we don’t buy a new striker. Giroud is no better than Poldi and at Arsenal we’re used to see wenger converting wingers to strikers so why not convert the best striking winger?

  30. Wengerites be damned!

‘Rosicky was excellent. …He really is the heartbeat of the team when we need to increase the tempo. Looks fitter, stronger and faster than a lot of our players 2’
    Agree.
So Wenger has confidence in Giroud…He is a warrior, no doubt but his misses make the situation uncomfortable. A striker with a good pace and finish is required.
Nervous game. You simply cannot relinquish points to bottom teams, especially at home. Glad Arsenal grabbed 3 points but I think many things depends on what Wenger will do in this transfer window.
    Happy new year!

  31. Samir

Podolski seems a little over rated by Arsenal fans.

No doubt he’s good…But not world class.

We need a world class left winger.

We need a world class striker and DM first though.

  32. Dissenter

For all the talk about Giroud v Bendtner. I think the point is that Podolski was shit poor today. He do not make any useful runs, did not press the keeper and defense and just made it so easy for Cardiff.
He was useful at westham. He’ll have his chances to change games …from the bench. He should never start another game again.

  33. kwik fit

Poli has and always will be an inside left, He can’t play the centre role. I think Gnarby would be a better call for the centre role, if were really stuck.

  34. Guns of brixton

Polds is world-class, 1 poor game doesnt take you down to a ‘good’ player. hes stats a very good giving hes poistion and time injured. but i admit, hes no CF.

  35. stay dench

Boys I think its time we appreciate what a great manager Arsene Wenger is!

Top of the league with Giroud and Bendtner as strikers! Who would of thunk it? His some manager!

  36. Ashwin Gunner

wow… what a win. had to fight till the last. Wilshere was very good today. With Ramsey out he is getting more oppurtunities and he is getting his old self back. Hope he regains his magic game.

Massive win. With city winning earlier the win was a must. Awesome start to the new year. Great win.

With Bendtner injured we have to buy a striker. I don;t care if he is not eligible to play for CL, he can win us the league

  37. Mo

    From the BBC:

“This could be significant as the transfer window reopens – Arsene Wenger has said that Nicklas Bendtner has sprained his ankle and will be out for ‘weeks.’

Will that mean that Wenger will have to buy a striker now?”

  38. Dissenter

    @Southern people
“Isn’t it too early to argue that Poldi experiment won’t work? Is one single game enough to say he’s failed the experiment?
He’s had his chance against the team ranked 19th at the Emirates. How’s he going to thrive as the sole striker?
He’s not mobile or fast enough, like Walcott
He can’t hold up the ball, like Giroud
He won’t make useful runs to drag defenders away.
He can’t dribble, like Suarez or Aguero

He has his attributes, maybe. He does have a good shot. He’ll have his chances from the bench and I’m not dissing him or anything.

He just shouldn’t start games in the premiership. The CL might be different because European games are some less physical.

    Bramford

I am not judging Bendtner for his past, no I am not of those people, I was just talking about work ethics on the pitch not his character ok. Giroud works the hardest and that’s why in my opinion he gets selected even though he’s not scoring. the childish things off-the pitch is not my concern at the moment however, i prefer him to stop that.

I think he learnt the lesson and now that he scored and won us points he’d be more motivated to work hard.

Bramford I agree your with your sentiment in the following paragraph

“He also fits into our passing scheme better. When Nicklas plays, he’s actually a genuine part of the passing interplay. He moves in and out of spaces to receive balls and play, and he fits in more or less seamlessly with the midfielders. He isn’t the odd man out, as Giroud is”

this is the best observation one can get from watching Giroud and Bendtner game. It’s really spot on analysis that contradicts what a lot of other bloggers think of Giroud.

  40. Sam

Podolski just came from 4 months injury.

    How stupid are some people?
He did well as sub last time, today he was poor n bendtner saved our lame ass.

    We won!

WOW a tad melodramatic and overboard?
One match he had a poor game and he can start a match again?

Poldi shouldn’t be a central lone striker as he can’t play there but surely you can see his a very good option on the left wing..

As someone previously said His a 15 goal 11 assists kind of a winger a season thats good number

he also has the best cross on our team and works well with Giroud

pod on the wing means he gets more time to shoot with that wonderful cannon of his rather than be swamped by the CB’s as he is playing central.

  42. stay dench

This blog is so reactive and over the top.

Suddenly Podolski is shit and should never start a game for AFC again.

Chill guys his a great option for left wing and should start games there when we want to play counter attacking football rather than tip tap

  43. Name (required)

Poldi is world class in terms of technical abilities whether scoring or assisting or even participating in overall team creativity, however, he’s not a hardworker and sometimes I have the impression that he’s not interested in playing at all.
But I think he should be played as striker for few more games to get used to the role and that’s not too much to ask because at the end of the day Giroud was given a year and half as central striker with average results.

Generally, after an ankle sprain you will probably be able to walk one to two weeks after the injury. You may be able to use your ankle fully after six to eight weeks and you will probably be able to return to sporting activities after eight to 12 weeks.

  47. sam

9 points out of 3 games no kwismas banana skin

now lets check that transfer window, Wenger please get ya purse out.

Man city are scaring da shit out of me

  48. WengerEagle

Our next 4 BPL matches before our season defining big-match run-in:

    Aston Villa-away
    Fulham-home
    Southampton-away
    Crystal Palace-home

These are 4 must-win matches for which I think we’ll struggle to do if we play Podolski up front seeing as how Bendtner and Giroud are injured. Signing a striker is vital at this stage. Win these 4 matches and we would be in a very commanding position after 24 matches

  49. Musketeer

    ———————————

Finally others are seeing it, there is a lot about the ‘two footed’ Carzola thats annoys, besides the 3 year old shooting and constant changing from feet to feet when he still hasn’t knocked it out off his feet for a shot he shoot, powder puff finisher.

Also his final ball has been shocking all season, another one today behind Pod, those switching balls that he keeps over hitting just need to stop.

I find most of his running on the ball quite pointless, he also bring the ball back 10 yards a lot when passed to, henry l’berg pires and b’kamp do not do this, people like overmars turned and engaged, this is why I like Rosicky.

At least he wasn’t bullied off it today. That team selection was a waste of 6o precious minutes, clearly was not working we are waiting 60 to 70mins to get these goals now, we need to be getting on the scoreline by half time, 60mins max, this is why the stronger teams will beat us, Arsene needs to correct it.

Positive is we are still top although we almost allowed 17th placed Cardiff to topple us, BIG win, the biggest so far this season, maximum points from January is a must up until will play L’pool and United.

If you read my post before mouthing off. You’ll realize that I was referring to starting as lone striker. I wasn’t dismissing his contributions
He just won’t be a good option as sole striker.

    Now who’s being melodramatic?

  51. gunnergetyou

Bendtner injury is bad timing, Giroud is a very lucky man.

I thought we all agreed last.season that poldy is no striker.

Typical performance from Theo. Often plays shite but often scores and/or assists. Cant knock it

  52. Samir

What would you lot think if someone, say Monaco come in with a bid of 20M for Cazorla in the Summer?

Let him go? Or keep him?

  53. sam

Cazorla lack of goals could be also due to Walcott wasting our freekicks.

    who cares?
we are winning and he’s not a striker. goals will come

  54. Dissenter

    @simon
Poldi is a useful player who contributes to games. He won us the game at Westham.
My point is that his strengths are negated when he’s played as the lone striker. I wasn’t dissing him, he has a cannon on that left foot and has won us games in the past.
The lack of goals, does not even bother me, it was the lack of effort to close down down defenders and makes runs.

  55. WengerEagle

    Samir

To be brutally honest I would probably accept that bid if I were Arsenal and reinvest that and an additional 20 million on Draxler. Cazorla is 29 going 30 and as good as he is centrally Ozil is better. Draxler on the left would be much more effective for us than Santi. Sentiment has to go out the window for big decisions at big football clubs

  56. sam

    Fok off Samir

If you are an agent for Monaco maybe you should try talking to Moyes. That old lame duck traitor might not be needed anymore.
we are not selling our best players and we are not selling Cazorla because of drop in form.

    just fok off

  57. useroz

Agreed giroud might not score wot Bendtner’s goal. Probably hit the side net, dropped to his knees and covered his face…

If Bendtner pulled his muscle, as suggested, we have no striker for at least 2 weeks.

Cazorla lost something. Watching his shooting was painful…

Wenger must buy a proper striker, and probably a ‘special’ young, up/coming ACM too.

  58. Nasri's Mouth

People who are using this game to prove podolski is no good up front need to realise that it takes time to get yourself used to a new position and he’s not match fit after months out.

So while I don’t think he’s the answer by any means if he continues up front we should see better performances than this from him.

Good win in the end. We dominated them without giroud Ozil and Ramsey. Should have had a penalty, should have had at least one goal from the normally reliable mertesacker and wilshere looked pretty good in the center.

God knows who’s up front against spurs though…

  59. Samir

    WengerEagle

    I’d probably do the same.
Cazorla does not like playing on the wing…Leaves the left back with two people to deal with.

Ozil is basically his replacement. With Wilshire back up to him.

  60. Dissenter

    Nasri’s mouth,
Good point about Poldi needing time to adjust to leading the line.

But,we don’t have that luxury when we are top of the league and there are teams clipping at our heels.

  61. sam

    WengerEagle,

You really think Wenger will spend that much on a 19yrs old German.
He has one here who can’t even get a game.

If Draxler is valued at 40M you should forget about wenger signing him

  62. Nasri's Mouth

    @dissenter

Indeed, but it’s another 70 mins playing time for podolski. We got a win and he got a bit fitter.

  63. Bamford13

Disappointing that Bendtner may be out weeks with an ankle issue. I was looking forward to watching him up top — so much better than watching us with Giroud up top.

Bad timing on all sides, because Podolski is not a CF. That was painfully obvious today.

  64. Musketeer

    Samir
Podolski seems a little over rated by Arsenal fans.No doubt he’s good…But not world class. We need a world class left winger. We need a world class striker and DM first though.

    Sam

the question isn’t about whether wenger would sign Draxler as a decent addition it is about crazy pricing of a young unproven lad. I wouldn’t pay more than £15 millions for him. The kid is not that great to suggest he’d make an immediate impact on Arsenal team, he’s one for the future and we’re not interested in future anymore, we’re interested in the NOW.
for the future we have Gnabry, Wilshare, Ramsey and the co. but we need someone big to push us to win the league this year.

  66. southernpeople

loooooool. He definitely thought of something like that even before that lashing shot went in!! You just can’t stop the guy dreaming big very big.

but he’s gaining my heart after today, we won big big three points that made us top of the league in the new year. He realised my dream for Arsenal for the new year.
