Arsenal pick off Fenerbache but squad dangerously stretched as 3 doubts raised…

by & filed under Match report.

Light work my friends. That is what Arsenal made of a very odd Fenerbache side. I thought the only tactical option for them was to turn up all guns blazing. Instead they played the patience game and suffered the consequences.

I’m not going to give a detailed blow by blow account, but there were some notable incidents and performances in the game that merit further chat.

Firstly, the bad news. Our skinny squad really doesn’t take much of a hit to bruise like its been shot with a Metropolitan Police plastic bullet at a protest about school meals. Lukas Podolski pinged his hamstring so badly he had to be stretchered down the tunnel. I know they grade tears… That one looked like it sat in the bad category. Wenger said three weeks, when does he ever say anything different? We had to bring on Kieran Gibbs in his place, which worked out nicely, the concern for me is he’s a crock as well… and Monreal was pretty poor all night long. Against Spurs, he’ll be exposed as a weak link if he plays like that.

The good news on the playing front is we controlled the game with ease. Fenerbache didn’t stretch us at all. So we won’t be tired, and we’ve two days on Spurs who play Europa on Thursday.

Our keeper had a mixed bag. He made two or three superb saves, one at the near post in the first half was particularly excellent, along with the lovely early double save from Merieles. He did mix that in with a couple of needless flaps along with rushing out of his area. He always starts so deep… it’s no wonder he struggles to make it to the ball first.

Ramsey had another top performance. He’s adding goals and clinical passes to his game, which is always the sign a player has turned the corner. He’s playing with confidence and calmness. He’s playing with discipline and he’s throwing himself around like a man. About time… His two goals were well taken. The first came when Cazorla saw Theo’s run across the box, it looked like Theo or the defender edged it into the path of Ramsey who passed it home for the first goal.

The goal in the second half was a bit classier, some nice build up play saw Gibbs cut the ball to the near post with Ramsey steering the ball into the far corner. Cesc started to turn heads when he added goals to his game, it’s a sign of calmness… something that only comes with experience.

Great work. Jack must feel the pressure… which is superb news. The British core is being led by a Welshman, he knows that’s not right and he’ll up his game to compete. Inter-country competition… it’s a beautiful thing.

Cazorla was excellent as always. He’s a genius on the ball. Simple as that. He ferrets his way out of any space, he’s perfect with both feet and his vision is as good as the weighting he gives to each pass. Problem we have is that we only have one of him… which generally leads to overuse and fatigue. That’s why an Ozil would be an excellent move. Especially as Cazorla now has to move out onto the left side of midfield.

We finished the night with a front three of Sanogo, Miyachi and Gibbs. Amusing and Carling Cup like, but a distinct reality we might face as the season goes on. Sanogo, however you paint it is painfully raw. He’s not a ‘now’ player, but he’s out second best striker. Frightening. We don’t have a squad… we have many round pegs that seem the quite effectively slot into square holes. It’s not a sensible way to play and a strategy like that won’t bear fruit.

We need to spend £100m this week if we want to compete for things. £70m if we want top four. We’re in pretty bad shape heading into Spurs. A full back out of form. One adult striker. A left back in left midfield. Scary against a full Spurs squad who boast a bench.

On a separate point, the stadium was embarrassingly empty. Someone was trying to play the ‘people can’t afford it card’… sorry, not buying it. The showing at the ground was about ‘I can’t be bothered’. There’s no excuse this year, if you can’t afford it, sell your ticket or give it away to someone… You can get them a paper ticket, so you don’t even need to worry about giving them your card.

Leaving a spare empty really is poor… (read more about sharing a spare here)

Wow

Transfer wise, all the papers are trying to make their money today. The Mirror reckons third parties have offered us Benzema and Ozil, a bit like trying to sell your neighbours house (we’ve all been there after a beer or two)… not that we’re above listening… the Suarez deal a painfully naive example of that. The Telegraph reckons we have a 50% chance of Cabaye which probably means that deal is off. Oh and Arsene is making agitated ‘we’ll see what we can do’ noises.

People complain that I’m being negative, but I’m really not. It’s negative to take the attitude that beating Fulham and Fenerbache somehow means we’ll be ok this season. Positivity is wanting to improve because by doing so we stand a better outcome of a great season. If you believe we’ll compete with our current squad, you’re lying to yourself, because all the laws of reality clearly point to that being a falsehood.

I made the point last night that we ended the night with a front three of Ryo, Sanogo and Gibbs. Many thought this was perfectly acceptable as we were winning. Sure, it was acceptable if those introductions were by choice. They were the only players we could bring on. If players get tired at Spurs (which happens), those are our attacking options. Carling Cup options for a NLD… farcical regardless of the weight you’ve put into Wenger saying Sanogo will be a £50m player in 2 years.

Finally, some majorly exciting news, I have Simon Kuper coming on a podcast to chat about football and data. I can’t tell you how excited about this I am…mainly because its been a hot topic I’ve talked about a lot… because Arsene is behind the times. This guy co-wrote Soccernomics… it’s a great read if you’re a data geek. It goes way beyond Opta and Prozone, so tune in on Tuesday for that.

Flamini is a done deal but the club will not announce him until the big signing(s) are announed. One must be mata and the other di maria? Rumours of casillas as well

  2. Pollux

    Wenger buys 0-10mil – Normal
    Wenger buys 10-20mil- Rare
To expect Wenger to pay 20mil or more for any player….I say it is possibly easier to convince Paris Hilton to give you a blow job.

    This is Wenger.

    WENGEROUT.

    Morning all

    Good win yesterday

I’m just amused to think of those who thought the Fener double tie will be tricky

You look at yourself & think you’re a moron, no?

Fener were never going to trouble us, shite side & we walked that tie comprehensively

  4. luscious lisa

Nothing like hindsight. After Fulham plenty of experts were saying Fener
    would be a tough ask.
Another negative post. Ever heard of focus on the positive? We need more players? Great insight.

  5. shad

Oh, and anyone thinking Benzema, Ozil or Di Maria will come in is having a laugh. Put down the pipe son. This is Wenger. The old coot has never bought anything more costly than his jacket-sleeping bag.

I wonder what would happen (God forbid!) if Ramsey weren’t able to recover before Sunday.

    No one seems to have any idea on who we are bidding for which seems this is the most probable;

IN; Flamini – DM/LB/ [free], Diaby [Free/ New], Cabaye [12,000,001 = undisclosed fee] and Nobodyinho [Striker, Free]

    HELLO 6th Place!

  6. shad

ION, on the game, why the feck does Walcott keep taking our free kicks?! He should be our 4th choice after Cazorla, Poldi and Arteta. (3rd since Arteta injured himself gelling his hair)

  7. Syrup01

Podolski is injured, it’s alright because we have , The Ox – Oh?, Arshavin – Oh? Gervinho – Oh?

We have the budget and wage structure for marquee signings and cherry picking the players we want. At the start of the transfer window we had the time to complete these deals, but we will not pay more than Wenger thinks a player is worth. Now we do not have the time for any marquee signings.

So, in the style of the Fast Show, this week we will be mostly signing squad players.

Yes, what we need, but we will have to pay over the odds for players and they will not improve the first team, nor will they put bums on seats.

But at least we will have £250,000 week saved on wages from last year, and we will have £40 million left in the transfer kitty for January.

Arsene – It is not your money, it is our money, please spend it.

  8. Dony

How demoralizing it must be for Cazorla to have to play with Sanogo.

You’re not going to win with guys like Sanogo being a core part of your squad. In turn this is why the great players leave.

This guy should not be anywhere near the first team at Arsenal but Wenger is still on a personal mission to show the world how clever he is.

  9. Carts

Wenger said he wanted to take Wilshere off, but Wilshere wanted to stay on. Yeah, he ended up getting smashed twice after that. Remind me: who the fuck pays Wilshere’s wage? £80k a week; chocolate ankles; and incredibly sloppy of late, yet Wenger let a 15 year old with a dodgy haircut dictate to him when he actually wants to come off and stay on?! This a fucking windup.

Like I previously said yesterday, we weren’t ever signing anyone before we thoroughly dealt with Fene. Our squad, baring Cazorla, is painfully thin and average, with most top players ‘ummin and erring’ at the thought of signing for us. At 26 days before transfer deadline, mate of mine said we aren’t signing anyone worth wanking over. Unless that mythical character Dick Law is out and about offering contracts, the best we can all hope for is maybe Cabaye.

  10. samsensible

Presumably the line up versus Spurs….if everyone is fit…will see a midfield and attack of Rosicky, Jack and Ramsey in the middle with Santi and Walcott flanking Giroud.

If Ramsey and/or Wilshere are injured we are in big trouble.

Flamini will have to come in and bite some ankles.

  11. Gregg

The noises coming out of Madrid is that Di Maria is desperate to stay there. Do we wqant a player that doesn’t want to come here ?

Mata i’m sure would want to come & given that Chelsea are close to signing another winger from Porto, surely they’ll be letting players leave ?

  12. RockyPires

    Morning all .

Great result for morale and financial reasons moreso than anything.

Mata would be great sig ning, cant see it happening though.

Di Maria would be ideal for wing position, would allow Santi in CAM and even LM with Di Maria switching to right also.

Di Maria, Ozil or Mata? I would go with DI Maria, raw pace, skillful and out and out different to what we currently have. Mata is in the same ikle as Santi and perhaps we would have too many “tippy tappies” for Stoke/Chelsea games teams who will suffocate you in midfield with numbers.

Di Maria would be an outlet on the counter attack and imagine he and Theo s pace on the wings.

Flamini ould be a welcome addition, Toby Alderweild/Adel Rami also required. Its great Sagna is doing so well at CB but cant be dependant on him to fulfill two roles. Plus he is a freebie in the summer so need to think longer term. Blood Toby/Rami, both Internationals with 25 caps for Belgium and France respectively. Toby also covers RB .

a striker is the hard one, what options are really out there other than Benzema, Rooney appears to be settling in AGAIN at Man U . does Fellaini count as a striker?? could we play a false 9 with Di Marie and Theo either side of him?

Lol we haven’t even signed him yet.

You’d have to think that there’ll be a couple of arrivals before Sunday *wishful thinking*

  14. andy1886

We are an injury to Giroud away from Sanogo leading the line for several months. Odds on that this happens shortly after the window slams shut.

If we do not buy a Striker we are screwed.

  15. TheBayingMob

Interesting that Pedro has noted the empty seats. Proper no show there, would expect it to be the same for early round FA Cup and League Cup games … people are becoming quite disinterested. Will Wonga ‘really’ not make any signings? Personally, numbers wise, I don’t think we’re short … quality wise, beyond our first XI (at a push) it’s become quite an embarassment… Spurs looms large …

  16. Gregg

Gone quiet on the Striking front hasn’t it. The only player I can see coming in that position is Michu. Other than that perhaps the plan C is to get two of Di Maria, Ozil, Mata & push Walcott central, competing with Giroud & Podolski. Just a thought and perhaps unlikely as I don’t think Wenger rates Walcott in that position, although the through balls and service that would come from having more than just Cazorla’s creativity, could see Theo being a success there.

  17. elmogooner

Great post Pedro , couldn’t agree more , our squad is desperately thin , ryo , sanogo and gibbs as our attacking trio at the end …… Not good enough . Shame about poldi tho, I felt this was going to be his season , I hope he’s not out long .

Wow , what can I say about Rambo , the lad is absolutely on fire at the moment. , he Shud just be wrapped in cotton wool and soaked in placenta till Sunday . Rambo is indespensible at the moment …….. I believe playing with arteta has given him that bit of confidence he needed and now he believes , and I agree jack needs to step up . Bring on the spuds. #nld

  18. samsensible

RP, he’s a free mate. We just need to wrap it up, if we’re signing him! What better way is there for Flamini to regain affection among Gooners than to smash one of Spurs’ fancy new signings??

PS Arsene, I like Mata too.

  19. TheBayingMob

    ————————
I think we probably have, but they dare not announce another free transfer with 70-80m quid sloshing around in the bank off the back of the Suarez debacle.

Just thinking about it, the amount of faffing about it takes Arsenal in particular to conclude a deal … we’re on Wednesday with nothing imminent, what’s the latest we can sign someone for them to be in the squad / team for Sunday?

  20. nuudles

I also read that Flamini has signed but we are waiting to sign someone proper in order to not further give the fans ammunition. If Rambo & Jack are both out and with no Poldi we simply must have him in the squad by Sunday unless we sign a CM before then (if the CM we sign is more of an AM, i.e. Mata/Ozil/similar then we will need Flamini just as much).

No signings starting 11 against Spurs: (Jack, Ramsey & Poldi out)

Bench: Flappy, Jenk, Frimpong, Gnabry, Sanogo, Ryo, Zalelem < what is the average age and total number of PL matches on that bench!?!? (especially if you discount Flappy as a backup GK is only an emergency player, i.e. if your main GK gets injured)

  21. andy1886

People need to remember we would be signing the Flamini that struggled to get in an average Milan team, not the one that had one good season for us in 2007/8.

The fact that he is on trial and hasn’t had a decent offer anywhere else tells you all you need to know.

Cabaye sounds a more likely bet, a good player but hardly a world beater. Chances are that taking savings in wages into account we will be even more profitable after this transfer window than we were before it.

  22. Gregg

When was the last time he played a competitive game ? is he ready to step straight in ?

In other news; We’re among the top 8 seeds for tommorow’s CL draw

  23. DUIFG

Monreal was a real handful going forward, looks really nippy as well. defensively ok but put himself in the shit a couple of times being too cute.

  24. Mach iii

Sure we might not compete later in the season if we short on players, but at the moment we are playing well. All sorts of fans of all sorts of teams are complementing Arsenal after watching them play lately. Don’t get so focused on what is wrong with the team, cause what I’m reading is not Le–Grove, it’s Le–Groan.. COYG!

  25. Romford Pele

“People need to remember we would be signing the Flamini that struggled to get in an average Milan team, not the one that had one good season for us in 2007/8.”

He didn’t struggle to get in.

He was injured a lot of the time. And the reason he didn’t stay at Milan was that his contract demands were too much.

  26. RockyPires

Cabaye is Arteta Mark 2 but again we will struggle physically in CDM but play nice passes out, is that an improvement??

Axel Witsel of Zenit is the bomb , nearest thing to a skillfull Yaya Toure , midfield powerhouse .

  27. Romford Pele

Think people are being a bit harsh on Monreal – it was his first start of the season. Bound to be a tad rusty.

  28. nuudles

@andy, the stories are that he had offers from West Ham and something like three teams abroad but he said no and chose to train with us on the chance that we will sign him. We are pretty desparate + he is (was?) quite versatile + he is free, so I think we will get him unless he is horrid in training. Would obviously prefer to get a proper DM (cheeky bid for De Rossi? or Gonalons or Kondogbia or has he now gone to Monaco?), but as we all know we are incredibly stingy + I would prefer Flamini to Barry… (looks like the most likely other option at the moment)

  29. Dony

with all the extra cash that we have, maybe free drinks and food will be offered on matchday? this is about as a likely as a top quality transfer coming in…

wenger won’t sign players like ozil, benzema. that’s fantasy and it’s great for selling papers. however, with that stupid smug smile, he will say he was in for them.

  30. john jensen

Am I the only who gets a bit of sick enter their mouth when AW speaks these days. The hypocracy of the man is unbelievable, he has strung the fans along for too long and seems to think its amusing doing so. Please sign someone or leave.

Could’nt agree with you more Carts. Should of taken him off.

Midfield driven into the ground already. Negligence beyond belief.

  32. LeMassiveCoq

Good god, I just wish we would sign fucking somebody (other than Flamini).

I tell you what, next summer I’m not even fucking looking at Le Grove or the gossip columns until September 1st.

Fucking Wenger. We have now barely got a first 11. The bench is an utter joke.

    We need:

GK (Schez did well last night, but he needs competition)
    CB cover.
    LW
    CM
    AM
    S

  33. andy1886

Fair enough Romford but if he struggled due to injuries that’s not exactly promising either. Smacks of a cheap solution as usual.

  34. jules

Think Wilshere and Ramsey will be ok for the weekend. Five days is sufficient time for them to recover.

hope so Romford or we are pretty fucked !! lol

  35. DUIFG

Re wilshere totally agree that the emergence of Rambo will be good for wilshere. His whole career he has either been a nailed on starter for arsenal or had smoke blown up his arse by England set up/media that he is god incarnate. Recipe for complacency, not good for a 21yr old still learning his game.

Obv second fiddle to Rambo yest but I liked some of his link ups with caz and his vision in picking balls, little more composure and he would have slipped people in.
Creaming over caz all night, one more super super talent in there and some scintillating football could be played.

  36. andy1886

You know what, if we’re not careful we might actually miss Gervinho and Bendtner come September. How poor would that be?

  37. miki dora

My two cents for us to compete:

    Ozil
    Benzema
    Bergovic
    Fellani
Hummels (Are there any CB’s actually available?)

However none of those are happening so it matters not. I can’t believe that Flamini is being unveiled as a signing. Fuck him. Seriously. The guy couldn’t get a trial anywhere else, he’s always injured but yeah sure, he’s French. Great.

I’m expecting a panic buy of Cabaye and Cesar on deadline day.

  38. GUNNERBUST

Can’t wait for September 2nd for all this bullchit to be over!!!!!!!!!
Doesn’t matter who comes in,he’s left it to late and fkd up the season!!!!!!
And whoever the muppet brings in, trust me it won’t be top quality or special.
It’s gonna be the usual chit, squad players and prospects for the future.
The laughing & bagging of our great club will continue from opposition supporters and until Wenger is there, nothing will change !!!!!
Big brother says its time to go “WENGER”

  39. Romford Pele

“Creaming over caz all night, one more super super talent in there and some scintillating football could be played.”

I can’t help but fantasise but imagine him and someone like Ozil/Mata.

    Good Lord

  40. DUIFG

Its insane, you do see sometimes that he is obviously 2 or 3 steps ahead of some of our other guys football intelligence wise, where he lays it off into a space expecting thats where the run should be thus losing the ball.

Mata/Caz/ozil is an axis cut from the same cloth, Just break the bank for Ozil please. I would be a handful if I had those lads feeding me!

  41. Gregg

    Romford
Hell yeah, Cazorla and Mata or Ozil would be scintillating. Though in other ways it would be criminal to have two players of that ability and not give them a top class striker to feed.

  42. Romford Pele

“Mata/Caz/ozil is an axis cut from the same cloth, Just break the bank for Ozil please. I would be a handful if I had those lads feeding me!”

I think this is the next best way to go as there are a dearth of top quality strikers on the market. Only Benzema and Suarez are realistically good enough. One won’t be sold due to him being Perez’s favourite. As for Suarez, it just won’t happen.

To combat that, we have to get extra creative.

  43. Josip Skoblar

  46. DUIFG

Ye from what I have seen of Giroud he is a decent striker, (His movement is actually impressive) he just hasnt got the pace power or control of a guy like Cavani say to do it on his own. def good enough though to get on the end of balls though, with some proper creative beind him no reason he and theo cant get 20 goals each which may be enough.

  47. Josip Skoblar

I quite like Sagna as a CB. He’s been doing well there. As a RB, he’s got a major flaw: he can’t cross the ball. This is no longer an issue when he plays CB.

  48. The Pooh

    Sorry, I couldn’t sign anybody.

Could find neither a “top, top, top” player, nor a “special, special” one to add to our squad of quality footballers.

Good people of the universe, please, for the sake of everybody’s sanity stop talking about Mata as a genuine, or even distinct possibility. Jose Mourinho would rather let Mata rot on the bench than sell to the likes of us and they can afford to pay him (Mata) 150k a week whilst doing so. It’s a non- starter !

  51. Gregg

Last week Wenger was bullish, stating the players want to come here, the desire is to come here. Not quite what we’re hearing from the Madrid based targets though.

  52. DUIFG

Josip I agree to an extent as I hated Sagna at RB for most of the last 2 yrs, im not convinced by the logic though because you are an awful RB you should be given a crack at CB,ha

  53. Josip Skoblar

I’m told that Alsatian people have a reputation in France – together with people from Brittany – for being stubborn and inflexible.

  54. ZIZOU

Adam Ljajic, that’s a player we should have been sniffing around. Out of contract next year, he’s gone to Roma for peanuts.

    DUIFG
I also found Sagna very poor last year, like most of us I think. I wouldn’t write him off yet because he was good for us before.

  58. andy1886

No chance on Suarez unless Liverpool sign a replacement before the weekend. Only AFC sell first and look for a replacement afterwards.

  59. sylvain

My advice to all the Gooners : be patient (yes, I know it’s getting harder and harder lol) === >> when we will have reached the 10 YEARS without any trophy === >> Wenger out === >> plenty of cash for his successor!!
    Can’t wait === >> I wished I have a time machine to accelerate time!!

  60. Gregg

Sagna had two leg breaks in a very short time. This season and pre season he’s looked extremely sharp, though that could be because he’s in the last year of his contract. He wouldn’t be the first !

  61. Romford Pele

“No chance on Suarez unless Liverpool sign a replacement before the weekend.”

They have replacements, they’re just not very good bar Sturridge though (Borini, Aspas).

Have to say, i’m a big Sturridge fan – needs to be less greedy though.

  62. Marko

Disagree about Monreal I thought he done alright for his first start of the season (no preseason too remember) he’s our 1st choice left back for me.

Also Chelsea bringing in Willian and Atsu means one or both of Mata and Moses are off

  63. Romford Pele

“Sagna had two leg breaks in a very short time. This season and pre season he’s looked extremely sharp, though that could be because he’s in the last year of his contract. He wouldn’t be the first !”

We’d be making a huge mistake if we didn’t offer him a new contract. He’s the sort of guy i’d like to see retire at the club along with Rosicky. You can definitely see the passion they have for Arsenal.

Good win last night, good to have some positivity back for once!! Bring on the Spuds!!

Really hoping for some signings before Sunday, but just cant see it … why have we waited so long?!

Ground looked pretty empty last night … Arsene will see more of this if it continues!!

    Come on Arsenal!!!

  68. nuudles

I very much like Sagna’s commitment, energy and skill, but last night had to be one of his worst CB performances, if not his worst. I think he deals well at CB if he has the CF covered for pace, which is most of them, but Emenike had more pace and I thought he struggled. CBs like Per can cope with faster CFs because he has had to cope with them his whole career. Kozzer is incredibly fast so he normally can match even the fastest CFs, but as he gets older and presumably a smidge slower he will have to learn how to deal with faster CFs.

“but last night had to be one of his worst CB performances, if not his worst.”

Think we watched different games mate. Bar the one time Emenike rolled Sagna, and hit the post, he wasn’t up to much. Sagna for me looks very comfortable at CB.

  70. Ash79

Sylvain – no such thing as the Emirates curse, we all thought there was. We now know its the Wenger Curse – no trophies, injuries etc….nowt to do with stadium

  71. DUIFG

Emenicke is a handful tbf, we could easily have conceded in the first half had they had an ounce of quality which is why i am reluctant to shower sagna in praise as our CB saviour.

On another note was Gnabry injured or is Ryo ahead of him in the pecking?, i thought wenger thought gnab was gods gift. was prepared to sack off theo to give him a chance.

  72. Romford Pele

“On another note was Gnabry injured or is Ryo ahead of him in the pecking?, i thought wenger thought gnab was gods gift. was prepared to sack off theo to give him a chance.”

Ryo was just picked ahead of him. I’d harbour a guess that both will be on the bench at the weekend. Prefer him to Ryo personally too.

  73. Oh Theo Theo!

    nuudles – he’s not a CB!!

This is typical wenger bullshit… Who can remember the sight that was Ramsey on the wing? Bendy on the wing? Podolski at LB?

Soon as he comes up against a top CF with great movement and skill he’s going to struggle as he’s not an instinctive CB.

I can see it, you can see it and wenger doesn’t care enough to sign CB cover. Not like we’re talking 50m is it? 12-15m would secure a quality CB squad player to help out during the year.

Say what you want about Graham, he always had 3 strong CBs who could all play first team: Adams/O’Leary/Bould and Adams/Keown/Bould.

Wenger’s a muppet truly. Just look at City – Kompany goes down and they’re looking to tie up a deal for DeMichelis to cover.

Verm goes down and we get a converted RB!!

  74. DUIFG

Gnab has a goal scoring threat and a build that i dont see in Ryo, interesting to see how they both kick on this year.

I quite like Sagna as a CB. He’s been doing well there. As a RB, he’s got a major flaw: he can’t cross the ball. This is no longer an issue when he plays CB.
    ———–
also in recent seasons he’s been getting turned on the ball and beaten for pace down the flank. May be CB is better for him after all. STill need a CB/RB though….. Sakho?

  76. vicky

According to many reports,Ozil is unsettled not because he thinks he is losing his starting place at Real but because his wage demands are not being met.

He earns 5m Euros without tax and yet he is not happy with it.

I do not think we will offer more than what he currently earns. Even If he leaves,Man United will pounce on him.

Ozil transfer looks a non-starter to me.

  77. Ash79

Ryo was shit. I ownt be kind or cut him any slack. Will never make it. Japanese marketing ploy at the expense of our performance and his career. Shameful.

  78. Marko

If we’re to persist with Sagna as a CB then a right back is a must Jenkinson while I still think is promising I think should be a back up at best

  79. DUIFG

Vicky he is mega talent, time for the club to back their ” we can afford a 250k player” words with actions.

  80. Sam

Wenger should name chuba akpom in the squad now Podolski is out as he can also cover on the wing.

Wenger cannot buy, cannot get selection right
We thought we got rid of gervinho, then brought a complete waste of space Sanogo

  81. Tuna Melt

I reckon we need at least two new strikers.

I’m sorry but that Sanogo kid looks shit, I don’t care how old he is because he’d look shit for a 14 year old. I know it was only 35 minutes but it was enough time to know that he ain’t good enough. Giroud has scored a few goals yeah, but I reckon even Grant Holt would’ve scored as many considering the chances he gets. He’s basically a glorified James Beattie. We need better!

C’mon Wenger pull your finger out, even I’m getting bored with your jib now!

  82. Romford Pele

“Ryo was shit. I ownt be kind or cut him any slack. Will never make it. Japanese marketing ploy at the expense of our performance and his career. Shameful.”

Bar his pace, he’s pretty basic to me. We need strengthening there. But if i’m to opt for a youngster there, it’d be Gnabry.

  83. Dogtanian

On the Suarez thing – if what Pedro is saying is truem, I wonder if there was more to that clause / agreement than Liverpool and PFA were letting on…

We are now officially a Champ League team so could there be anything to that?

Would liverpool really have played such a short term card like that in July to efuse the move on the basis that we were not a Champo League team??

Perhaps Suarez’s agent has told us a new clause??!!

  84. Naija Gunner

Speaking of empty seats @ the Emirates yesterday, any idea how i can get a ticket for the spurs game on Sunday? i am an arsenal fan living in Manchester and i badly wanna see the game on Sunday 🙂

anyone with a ticket to spare should PLEASE reach me on pjtwice@yahoo.com

    thanks guys

  85. Romford Pele

I didn’t like the look of Sanogo last night. But it’s two games FFS, give the geezer a chance. You’re not going to be able to achieve much in that time. Of course he’s going to need a while to adapt.

That said, with the tie won early last night, I would’ve preferred to see Akpom and Gnabry rather than Sanogo and Ryo.

  86. Ash79

oh and incase any of you dont – download The Tuesday Club podcast, new one for new season dropped yesterday, very funny. Good banter on there.

  87. Sam

Yeah ryo miyaichi is shit on his first debut after longtime injury
Just like Ramsey was shit few weeks ago .
Hmmmm is cszeszny off your shit list yet?

    Go fuck yourselves haters !

  88. DUIFG

We cant go blaming wengers incompetance at not bringing in a decent striker on sanogo, guy is only a kid, he probably thought he was going to be playing reserves this year and the odd league cup match for god sake!

  89. Marko

Don’t wanna piss on anyone’s parade but twitter is the absolute worst. Until I see a Sky Sources or BBC understands attached to a new bid for Suarez I won’t get my hopes up

  90. vicky

I do not think either Gnabry or Ryo is good enough at this stage. Gnabry is a good player but he is still at least a year away before we can think of him as a serious claimant for the staring role.

Ryo looks out of sort. I can see him offloaded by us in a year or so.

Cazorla the winger is not even half as good as Cazorla the playmaker. We need a proper winger.

  91. karaul

mourinho doesnt fit in mourinho´s plan or what? he was our target before he went to chelsea right?

we need 5 players. thats more than days left to 31.8

  92. Al

Its disgraceful that Sagna has not been given a new contract. …he is exactly the type of player you need to keep in and around the squad to compete and to also pass on his attitude/work rate/ determination and experience to the younger players.

Also the his defensive qualities are the reason he has been excellent as a CB and will be as he still has the pace and reading of the game to play there at a high level for the next 3 years…..so give the man what he deserve as he not only has the quality but has also shown the loyalty to the club throughout the years

  93. bishop

Dont be suprised if wenger go for moses instead..This man cant spend 20million on a player..
suarez bid was a scam.He knew they wont sell, he even pissed them off with yhe 1pound.
    That man wenger is devlish

  94. Marko

Also Suarez’s camp have been so quiet these past few weeks even in the midst of reported Madrid interest. Either he’s totally given up on a move or he’s trying to mend some bridges before he moves.

In his case not bridges but mend some dams

  95. Romford Pele

“Dont be suprised if wenger go for moses instead..This man cant spend 20million on a player..”

This is such a likely deal unfortunately.

Now don’t get me wrong, I like Moses, but we need to be aiming higher.

Honestly I really think that the Emirates Stadium is CURSED!!
    —————-
We have to look at more why we get SO MANY muscular issues with our players. The amount of calf, hamstring and thigh strains is ridiculous. Wenger manning the whistle. Wenger’s training and conditioning.

Come now Sam, behave. We both know Ryo wont make it. He wento Bolton and never progressed. Commercial move that one. I am sick of being a stable breeding house for players.
FYI Scsz is STILL ON my shit list and if you believe he will keep goal in a title winning arsenal side, you are much mistaken sir.

  98. sylvain

I think I’m going to hibernate for two years, and then I’ll see where we are, and with a little bit of luck Wenger will be gone…

  99. Sam

Btw, I hope it’s time for serge Gnabry to take over the wing .
Podolski shouldnt have played last night fenerbahce are toothless

  100. Tuna Melt

I’d be happy to wager Wenger £1000 notes that the Sanogo kid will never score more than 10 Premier League goals in is Arsenal career.

I’ve seen better young French strikers playing for Hereford United.

  101. Gregg

The Mata story certainly has legs. Chelsea are on the verge of signing another winger plus they have Willian. In addition it seems they want Eto aswell. Quite simply they need to trim their squad by approx 3 players as it currently stands, if they let anyone british go then they can only name a squad of 23, so even more need to be released or loaned out. Man City will face the same problem.

I’m hating the way Wenger won’t go out and pay decent money (that isn’t even his!!) for seasoned players, but come one that’s a bit unfair. Sure Wenger has put him in an uncomfortable position throwing him on before he’s ready (due to not having anyone else) but 35mins is not enough time to work out if someone’s sh1t. Song had a nightmare start at Arsenal, was never world class but improved to be a really useful player.

  103. Damilarey

Its pretty fucking good to be a Gooner, as day-dreaming is too good for us.

I wonder why some1 will be thinking that we’ll sign players like Di maria, Ozil, Benzema, Cassilas etc with AW still alive & in charge of every single descision in Arsenal. That’s too much of a day-dreaming.

B4, Top 4 is a trophy…. Now, Top 6 is a priority blessing. Bcos I see Spurs with the last CL spot, followed by LvPl, then whoever again.
    WENGER OUT!!!

  104. Oh Theo Theo!

I have to say all the Sanogo hatred is a bit premature. It’s not his fault that he was plucked from relative obscurity L2 French football and thrust into our first team.

I agree he shouldn’t be there, but it’s wenger’s issue – he hasn’t/won’t sign suitable bench strength.

Sanogo has the attributes, but he’s super raw and needs a year in the reserves and playing in the LC team to start to progress.

Another example of wenger mutilating a potentially promising player for the sake of a few quid.

  105. andy1886

I’m not convinced by Pedro’s Suarez tweet. Remember all the bluster about how things were going to change and how we would break our transfer record two or three times etc, etc? I think Pedro’s ‘source’ has been on the sauce again.

  106. Sam

Ryo was always best player wherever he went (feyenoord and Bolton) at Wigan he broke his leg so he didn’t play. How shit is a player who can dribble and cross better than Walcott .

Hmmmm, he’s also faster than Walcott
And still only 20 years old

I said it before, go fuck yourself !

  107. Oh Theo Theo!

    sam – calm yourself dear.

Is he a quality starter that we could field against Manure/City and you’d feel comfy that he would excel. Not yet.

Would you rather have Ryo than Di Maria?

  108. sylvain

Departures (and fuck yes they will be right to leave) expected for the next summer: Carolza, Kos, Baca, Podolski (if it’s not this summer), Giroud, Verminator…
