Brendan Rodgers explains why Suarez must leave | Madrid pull out of the race

by & filed under News Review.

We had a good run of posts. Me, you, Myles Palmer. We all had a laugh right? Today it’s over. I’ve run out of things to say. Nothing has progressed in a day.

Well, actually, that’s a bit of a lie. The Cesc to United story is still rumbling away in the background. Word has it he has told his loose lipped friends he’s not received the assurances around his future he’d hoped for… and he could still leave. This whole story is a bit messed up if you ask me and I think it’s all geared around cash. Barca need some. Cesc is expendable. The issue is that neither wants to be the one who forces the move. Cesc doesn’t want to leave his home town again. Barca don’t want to lose face by selling a home grown talent again. We’re at an impasse. Which is French for loggerheads I think.

I still think this move has a major chance of happening. If I were a Barca director, I’d push the new manager to make a statement on behalf of the club and bin Cesc. That’s because I’m tainted with Gooner preference. However, it’s a good tactic, both parties absolved of blame… with the new manager an on-going hate figure. Perfect solution.

All of this… ‘friends have said Cesc would relish a move to United’… just doesn’t stack up for me. I know they’re a massive club, I know they won the league last  year. But surely everyone knows what happens to United next season? Surely no world class play in their right mind goes to play for a boot camp sergeant who has never won a major honour for a club? Just my opinion of course…

The Suarez deal is in the same place as it was yesterday. Not because I know that for a fact. Just because I haven’t seen any movements on the story. I’m guessing negotiations are on going. Madrid are armed with £32m of Higuain money, though it remains to be seen if they’re interested in ploughing that back into Suarez.

A Madrid insider leaked this to Marca…

“We believe in Jese and Morata and they deserve this chance. They are also very good. We are not going to sign a new forward.”

Simple as that people. Simple as that. We’re odds on favourites to land Suarez at Ladbrokes, heartening.

It’s also heart warming to read that Liverpool are already putting the feelers out about a new striker. Soldado, the Valencia hitman is on the wanted list… which would be double hilarious because Spurs want him. Spurs losing out on players is the summer equivalent of them losing out on top four. Someone get me a picture of a Spurs fan celebrating the signing of Soldado immediately.

SOLDADOOOOOO... what? Oh.

Talking of bad fans, look at this little Scouser tribute to a player who hasn’t even moved yet. Who said Liverpool fans lack class? Who?

Classy bastards (via @DLDN22)

Who said Brendan Rodgers lacked humour?

‘I know what we are trying to build, so why would you swap Liverpool to go to Arsenal? I am not sure that it adds up to be honest. Arsenal have a wonderful history in their own right but Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Hmmm… now… let me think… sorry Brendan, you were saying?

‘We are not in the Champions League and haven’t been for a while and we have to step up to the challenge now.’

Ahhh, I see you’ve answered your own question there. Anyone can have a project. Anyone can have  rich history steeped in fabulous glory. Not everyone can have Champions League. Just 4 clubs in the Premier League. This is the issue Brendan. That, and your fans burning shirts. It’s simply not a good cocktail.

Giroud is bang into the Suarez move, kind of…

“I think we need maybe two or three more players. Yes, that’s what we need. To show ambition.”

“The club has to show the fans that we want it. Me and my team mates, we need it as well. It’s all about the team. It will be a really positive thing if we have a new striker.”

Kind of like a turkey talking up a holiday to the States during Thanks Giving. Suarez is bad news for Giroud. But not that bad. He’ll be needed and he’ll get games. He’ll also get the kick up the backside he needs off the back of it. I like working with talented people, even if they’re more talented than me. Well, that’s a lie, I don’t like that, but it forces you to become better at what you do. Then it leads you into unfair smear campaigns. Then it leads to violence. Someone always leaves. It’s never me.

Anyway, have a fearsomely grand day. I’m off to ask myself how I managed to foot a £40 bill in a kebab shop last night. Nothing says pay day excitement quite like a pointless tasty outlay like that.

So much expense...

P.S. People were asking what I meant about Arteta in this ANR article… I didn’t mean he was being used as a make weight, I meant he’d been in contact with Luis, if you get what I mean.

Still showing the same disconnect in midfield, we either attack, or everyone’s funnelling back into our half trying to cover the counter-attack.

For all the talk of Suarez and a striker, our biggest problem is midfield, hopefully Rosicky, Ramsey improve that in the second hal, Cazorla would’ve probably bossed pre-season.

  2. Kushagra

Despite only being a few days old now, Prince George bares a striking resemblance to his parents; like his father, William, he has no hair and like his mother, Kate, he has no tits

  3. Al

Giroud is just too slow to really worry a lot of teams.
Also the difference in an attacking threat we look down the right with Jenkinson in the team instead of Sagna is just shocking.

I am hoping we start the season with Jenkinson as currently he suits the way we play and offers a lot more going forward and is not that bad at defending

  4. Guninurback

Ok first of all, hi everyone.

But more importantly, I think there is an easy solution to this Suarez debacle; please let me explain.

    #1: Fooock Ceasar!

    Ehm, why you say?

Well… because we don’t necessarily need a “Ceasar”. We just need an experienced keeper to push Sznezny a bit harder in the right direction. But in all honesty given the chance Ceasar could probably blitz him and carry on for years to come. Remember; keepers are usually not considered “cultured” until they hit they thirties, and most of them keep going even till they’re past fourty. My point is Ceasar (given a proper chance, I might add) could easily be the death of our young pole.

Hence… Lets put another five millon on the Suarez offer and another five in “pretty hard to accomplish clauses”…. Again I hear you ask…. why…?

Well…. For Pepe Reina off course.

Hold it, hold it now, please listen before you come with the mandatory “OY he is shit! … etc…

You see dear old Pepe is on a 110 K a week contract over there in Scousertown and in all honesty that is a strain on a wage budget pretty effing strained already. For all the blustering about Napoli, Liverpool doesn’t actually prefer loaning him out to anyone. They want to get that mammoth off the books asap, so I say, okay then, lets say 42 millon for Suarez and 3 mill for Pepe.
We put Pepe on a 3 year 70 – 80 (We can afford it) K- a week contract, with a ridiculous clean sheet bonus and tell him; “okay long term Snezny is our man, but in the short term its whoever performs in training”, believe me, Pepe is an experienced keeper, he’ll light up our training ground, seeing as they usually don’t have one of those around these days.

But if this flies, then Liverpool got about fifty to sixty mill freed up, Snezny got competition he might actually learn from, we got Suarez AND a decent back up keeper for the first time in like… (actually when I come to think of it, has that actually happened under Wenger?)

In any case, Ivan, Arsene, just do this and I think everybody ends up happy.

  5. Kushagra

Geoff Shreeves: John Terry, you’re missing a great opportunity to play in the final, how does it feel?

John Terry: Not as good as when I fucked your wife, Geoff

Valencia’s financial director announces in-house that a Soldado deal has been agreed with Spurs #THFC

This Sam Rhodes bio says he is privy to Arsenal info. Not good if Liverpool were looking for a replacement for Suarez.

  7. Zoran

Why don’t we offer Walcott and £25m for Suarez? They wanted Theo last year.
And they can have Bendtner and Park for nada.

The only reason anyone could say Jenkinson is on par with Sagna is because Bac had such a horrible last season. It doesn’t necessarily mean Jenks is up to the task.

  9. NAIJA GREAT

If cesc leave barca, he’ll be †нε most confused player, he had it all at Arsenal money, free role, captaincy and couldn’t lead us to anything. We will not be worse without him but I don’t want him at Man Utd. †нε truth is he’s not who he use to be, no thanks to †нε fake hamstrings he had in his last season, maybe he can regain that form though.

Walcott is one of the few players we have that might compliment Suarez neatly, so I for one think it would be a daft move.

  11. Jake

I don’t understand why people want Walcott to leave, stick with him since he was 17 and then as he comes good, sell him. Probably the same people that get annoyed when we sell our players when they get good.

  12. Al

    Guninurback

Well to be fair you are assuming that sagna wont have another poor season and will dramatically improve his attacking game even though he never has those attacking qualities.

Your also ignoring the fact that Jenks is playing well and constantly improving.

Yeah Liverpool will take two of our biggest drains of our books just for the pleasure of it…. ; -) I can see it happening.

“Fuck Suarez people we have Bendtner and Park!” Yeah Brendan Rogers would not make it home from that press conference…

  14. Mart

Funny – Prince George name must have been picked from Seinfeld characters.
    ‘George’ Costanza – Jason ‘Alexander’
Elaine Benes – Julia ‘Loius’ Dreyfus

  15. Jake

Ha, what a fancy goal. From Rosicky’s great touch, AOC’s spin, Ramsey’s sort of reverse pass into Theo who flicks it up for a Podolski volley.

  16. Pedro

Hey Tom, your Wilshere bashing has got boring… straight away.

I’d say go to a blog that would entertain your opinion, but there wouldn’t be one… for any club.

Give it a rest or do one.

  17. Arsene's Nurse

Pedro – can you ban this tom prat. He never adds anything worthwhile to any discussion, he simply goes on and on and on about Wilshere. He’s an obsessed bore.

  18. HerveDeNerve

    Pedro,

Have you ever come across this Sam Rhodes ‏@SamuelRhodes ?
“A Freelance football journalist with previous ties to the ‘Financial Times’ and ‘The Telegraph’, possessing a certain privy to Arsenal”

  19. Arsene's Nurse

Walcott’s problem is he simply isn’t consistent. He’s already missed 2 clear cut chances in the second half yet manages to set Podolski up when in a tight spot.

Well apart from the fact that he’s probably the best crosser we have I really don’t see much to rate in Jenks. Defensively he is found wanting again and again. (Nice one Theo) Physically he has yet to fully learn how to use his relatively good physique to his advantage, and he is such an inexperienced hot head that maybe Wenger is just grooming him to sell, and that he may replace him at any given moment.

  21. tom

team players alot better when wilshere is not playing watch the game if u dnt belive me 1-0 soon as wilshere goes off

  22. N5

tom, I suggest you read Pedro’s comment to you, you are going to get banned if you continue, your an obsessed bore and a vile person wishing death on people yesterday, nobody at all finds anything you say interesting or even tolerable so either contribute to discussion of piss off.

  23. NEEG

    Jake
In january Walcott held the club to ransome knowing that to let him go would not have been seen favourably by the fans. He is definately not worth £100K per week. Rodgers still admires him and would like to fit him in at LFC. Will Wenger let him go? IG will.

  24. Guninurback

I think what Walcott lacks is stability in his partnerships, and thats pretty much it. For all his other faults, i think a bit more understanding between him and the players around him (Fucking hell flappy!) would do wonders.

And in any case Walcott is a shadow runner, he’s not supposed to be a focal point, next to Suarez and Giroud I think he’d be prolific to say the least.

  25. NAIJA GREAT

“Why don’t we offer Walcott and £25m for Suarez? They wanted Theo last year”.

What are you smoking? †нε clubs serious goal threat last season to go? You are used to our best players leaving every summer. If any player bar †нε dross leave, that will rubbish whatever we do this summer

  26. N5

NEEG your spot on, Walcott did exactly that, people saying about all that investement to let him go when he come good would be wrong, what about all that investement only to ask to leave the moment he wants more money knowing we couldn’t let that happen. I’m suprised Wenger hasn’t had him shot out back!

  27. Jake

    NEEG

He held the club to ransom, yeah. Then he signed a new contract and still plays for Arsenal, no reason to sell him after making him good. The Liverpool link only came about because he’s a Liverpool fan anyway.

  28. Al

    Guninurback.

Not sure if your being serious but when has he constantly been found wanting defensively? He has had one or 2 nightmare (Swansea but so did ever body) but he is a good defender.
His quality to get up and down the right hand side is a threat. His pace is also another positive.

He is experienced but that didn’t stop him having a better season then sagna.

Also he just signed a 5 year contract and was one of the faces of the ads for the shirt so can’t see if your being serious about him and wenger wanting to get rid?

  29. Samir

Tom you arsehole, maybe Wilshere picked up a knock in training or in the game?

Have you ever played football before?

Wilshere has done alot better with his life than you have for sure.

I just said to give them Theo for Suarez.

This guy can teach Theo how to score goals out of nothing! And not how to miss the goals out of 100 % opportunities.

  33. tom

dnt no why arsenal find it so hard to score or win a game when wilshere is playing. plz mr wenger sell wilshere or send him back to bolton and let rosicky take hes place

Because a player signing a new contract with us has always stopped them leaving…………………………….

Hey I don’t totally disregard him, I just see him more as a utility player, but by all means please give him the West Brom’s, the League cup’s and the far away CL group games. But let Sagna do the hard work.

  36. N5

A1 it’s hard to ignore when it is constant, it doesn’t stop if ignored either, people have asked him to debate and he responds with I hope you get hit by a bus and die so it’s hard to just let that slide. I’m amazed people like SDE got banned for consistant fueling of argument, yet scum like tom can wish death on people and is still free to post his crap day in and day out.

tom, after what you said to me yesterday you think I’m mad because of Jack, I’m mad because you are a spud, an idiot and a scumbag of a person. Your a nastly little shit towards everyone and you think your Jack trolling is funny, but you are just a complete mug who doesn’t seem to understand everyone on LG thinks you are a joke!

  42. N5

Oh and tom don’t forget yesterday you also said fuck Pedro and fuck this blog and today you are back?

A1 you are spot on mate and to be honest the sooner the better, he’s a Xenophobe towards the English yet supports an English club, he is a real contradiction of a man/boy!

  43. Al

    Guninurback.

We have seen players sign then want out but I cant think of a player wenger has willingly given a 5 year contract to a young prospect then wanted him out str8 away.

Anyway guess its just a difference of opinion in a players quality and worth.

  44. N5

What’s the score for Arsenal? I’m at work today (in lunch right now) but those streaming sites are blocked here.

  45. gats

    Stfu N5 u twat.

Tom is right. Wilshere hasnt even fucking played well for close to 2 years. His fucking injured constantly, he dosnt score goals, his assistatio is fucking poor. His another fucking Diaby. He cant go 2-3 games without getting injured. Tom is correct. Fuck wenger, and fuck wilshere. Anyone putting all their hopes on wilshere again after more major surgery this summerIs fucking delusional like all the other AKB cunts and wenger.

  46. Mask of Zorro

Why is everyone on Tom’s case? is it because it’s Tom? Because I happen to think Wilshere is overrated too.

  47. Jake

There’s a difference between overrated and shit. If anything alot of people underrate Wilshere, the same as Rooney. It’s not because of the quality of the player but they never live up to the media’s expectations. This leads people to believe that they are actually awful and bleat on about how overrated they are when in reality, they underrate said player.

  48. N5

tom you can dislike wiltshire that isn’t the issue, its the fact you never talk about anything else, its obsessive and bizarre, you have as much right as anyone to say anything on here, but wishing death to commenters because they don’t agree with you makes you scum.

Gats is another one like you, the first person i’ve ever see be aggressive to Romford on here who is a pleasure to talk too, so anything he comments is just laughable in my opinion.

  49. gats

Are you comparing rooney and walcott?

Fucking serisous loool. Rooney has been playuing at the top for 10 years. Nobody is fucking underating Jack wilshere, because he hasnt done shite. People are underating rooney now because he had relatively piss poor season out of like fucking 12 years. Before that he was always treated like a good, and was never fucking underated.

Wtf has wilshere evedone to be ever underated? I mean seriuos his played 1 fucking good game agasint Bracelona like 4 years ago and thats it. Hhasnt done shite, or won shite ever.

His preety good at getting injured, not scoring, assists. If your talking about underating him thenfor that, then yes his being underated for getting injured.

  50. Bergkamp63

    Tom,

Did Wilshere fuck you sister or something ? you are obsessed with him.

    Change the record, it’s boring.

  51. gats

Herve i probably have more arsenal tops than you have fucking brain cells u cunt. And Thats about 2 tops. One when I was 7 and one from like 6 years ago.

  52. Jake

No, I was comparing Wilshere to Rooney. If you can’t figure that out then I doubt you understood a thing I said. I know that you didn’t because of your reply.

  53. N5

Jake, I wouldn’t even reply to that comment by Gats, it seems the point went so far over his head it’s a dot! that’s the problem with blind hatred your anger clouds your judgement, your vitreol towards me about Jack just then when I’ve not made a positive or negative comment about his shows just how misguided, ignorant and anger filled you are, look at the way you talk to fellow gooners, we’re on the same team for christ sake, if other teams read this blog they would have a field day.

Wilshere has never had a clear run in the team…

Wenger over played him and burnt him out. When he gets fully fit again, I’m sure we’ll see a different guy.

OK, Its just that I was wondering where you might keep them. Do you keep some in your wardrobe, hanging over the back of a chair or are they just lying around on your bedroom floor?

  58. Zoran

    Mask of Zorro

Completely agree, Wilshere is to much overrated.
If he was not English, he would be on the bench.
And that’s why I believe Guardiola saying Barcelona has plenty of players like Wilshere.

  59. Ash79

for what its worth I too think Jack is over-rated but they guy hasntr eally found his game yet, the injuries havent helped either but OGL can take credit for that one. Once he cements a starting place and creates and scores we can say the boy is class, for now I like Jack, good SQUAD player, future captain if he stays loyal, shouldnt really be in the first team right now if everyone fit but he will a legend if he stays.

  60. mystic

I thought today’s game showed how weak a back up Arsenal have when you play better opposition:
    Despite scoring, Akpom didn’t exactly make me think defences in the PL would be quaking;
Miquel looked poor at times – yes he was played out of position, but what does it say when Wenger prefers a RB as CB?
    Gnarby looked out of place most of the time;
    Jenkinson looked as if he is still a distance from being a decent replacement for Sagna;
    Ramsey looked good against poor opposition, but when faced with a better team became nothing but average;
Zealem (spelling?) looked very goof, but strength wise when touched was unable to match.

Arsenal will win fuck all if they have to reply upon such players during the season.

  61. Jake

    Zoran

Is that why Guardiola wants him at Bayern and why Barcelona apparently put him on their shortlist to replace Thiago?

  62. sam

Yes Akpom is already 4th choice behind Giroud,Podolski and Walcott.

I am not sure which new Striker you are talking about, maybe Afobe when he gets fit.
Did you mean Sanogo? he can’t be ahead of Akpom.

Guys, Wenger thinks he’s got too many strikers already

  64. Guninurback

Mystic I agree our back up is woefullly inadequate in order to compete.

    But all of this brings me back to one of my first post earlier today, which surprisingly none of you seemed to have an opinion on;

  65. Moanalisa

If tom came everyday saying podolski or giroud is shit I don’t think anyone would have cared about it.

Not that I think jack is shit- Iniesta has never scored up to 10 goals a season in his entire barca career, and except for last season I think has never provided more than 10 assist.

So jack has time to improve, maybe a spell on the right wing would help. Maybe.

  66. Guninurback

Does anyone actually discuss arsenal on this blog? Or is it just “ya mama jokes” and “You effing spud this and you effing manc that”?

  67. HerveDeNerve

    gats July 26, 2013 13:41:13

OK, but you were starting to tell me how old your tops were. You said one “One when I was 7 and one from like 6 years ago.” but not knowing your age it’s impossible to guess how old your tops are.

Anyway, when you need to use one of your tops, do you wash them first?

  68. Dan T

I agree with everyone that Tom appears to be a spud full of vitriol and hatred. But having said that – I do think Rosicky has been much more effective than Jack recently.

I think Jack has amazing potential and is obviously a hell of a talent, but right now he isn’t having a great impact. He needs to start converting some of his potential and commitment into assists and chances. Though anyone suggesting he is shit or should be sold is clearly a moron of the highest order.

  69. Dan

    Haha get in!

Cesc is not going anywhere for any price!

Barcelona: “It does not matter what they offer us, we are not selling him.”

    Fuck united and fuck Moyes!
