Brendan Rodgers explains why Suarez must leave | Madrid pull out of the race

by & filed under News Review.

We had a good run of posts. Me, you, Myles Palmer. We all had a laugh right? Today it’s over. I’ve run out of things to say. Nothing has progressed in a day.

Well, actually, that’s a bit of a lie. The Cesc to United story is still rumbling away in the background. Word has it he has told his loose lipped friends he’s not received the assurances around his future he’d hoped for… and he could still leave. This whole story is a bit messed up if you ask me and I think it’s all geared around cash. Barca need some. Cesc is expendable. The issue is that neither wants to be the one who forces the move. Cesc doesn’t want to leave his home town again. Barca don’t want to lose face by selling a home grown talent again. We’re at an impasse. Which is French for loggerheads I think.

I still think this move has a major chance of happening. If I were a Barca director, I’d push the new manager to make a statement on behalf of the club and bin Cesc. That’s because I’m tainted with Gooner preference. However, it’s a good tactic, both parties absolved of blame… with the new manager an on-going hate figure. Perfect solution.

All of this… ‘friends have said Cesc would relish a move to United’… just doesn’t stack up for me. I know they’re a massive club, I know they won the league last  year. But surely everyone knows what happens to United next season? Surely no world class play in their right mind goes to play for a boot camp sergeant who has never won a major honour for a club? Just my opinion of course…

The Suarez deal is in the same place as it was yesterday. Not because I know that for a fact. Just because I haven’t seen any movements on the story. I’m guessing negotiations are on going. Madrid are armed with £32m of Higuain money, though it remains to be seen if they’re interested in ploughing that back into Suarez.

A Madrid insider leaked this to Marca…

“We believe in Jese and Morata and they deserve this chance. They are also very good. We are not going to sign a new forward.”

Simple as that people. Simple as that. We’re odds on favourites to land Suarez at Ladbrokes, heartening.

It’s also heart warming to read that Liverpool are already putting the feelers out about a new striker. Soldado, the Valencia hitman is on the wanted list… which would be double hilarious because Spurs want him. Spurs losing out on players is the summer equivalent of them losing out on top four. Someone get me a picture of a Spurs fan celebrating the signing of Soldado immediately.

SOLDADOOOOOO... what? Oh.

Talking of bad fans, look at this little Scouser tribute to a player who hasn’t even moved yet. Who said Liverpool fans lack class? Who?

Classy bastards (via @DLDN22)

Who said Brendan Rodgers lacked humour?

‘I know what we are trying to build, so why would you swap Liverpool to go to Arsenal? I am not sure that it adds up to be honest. Arsenal have a wonderful history in their own right but Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Hmmm… now… let me think… sorry Brendan, you were saying?

‘We are not in the Champions League and haven’t been for a while and we have to step up to the challenge now.’

Ahhh, I see you’ve answered your own question there. Anyone can have a project. Anyone can have  rich history steeped in fabulous glory. Not everyone can have Champions League. Just 4 clubs in the Premier League. This is the issue Brendan. That, and your fans burning shirts. It’s simply not a good cocktail.

Giroud is bang into the Suarez move, kind of…

“I think we need maybe two or three more players. Yes, that’s what we need. To show ambition.”

“The club has to show the fans that we want it. Me and my team mates, we need it as well. It’s all about the team. It will be a really positive thing if we have a new striker.”

Kind of like a turkey talking up a holiday to the States during Thanks Giving. Suarez is bad news for Giroud. But not that bad. He’ll be needed and he’ll get games. He’ll also get the kick up the backside he needs off the back of it. I like working with talented people, even if they’re more talented than me. Well, that’s a lie, I don’t like that, but it forces you to become better at what you do. Then it leads you into unfair smear campaigns. Then it leads to violence. Someone always leaves. It’s never me.

Anyway, have a fearsomely grand day. I’m off to ask myself how I managed to foot a £40 bill in a kebab shop last night. Nothing says pay day excitement quite like a pointless tasty outlay like that.

So much expense...

P.S. People were asking what I meant about Arteta in this ANR article… I didn’t mean he was being used as a make weight, I meant he’d been in contact with Luis, if you get what I mean.

I think we have to accept that Cesc might well want to go to United. You’re forgetting it’s not just Moyes on his own. It’s like having SAF as your assistant so I wouldn’t knock him and assume nobody will want to go there because Moyes hasn’t won anything. You could equally say that about Arsene. Maybe it’s worse to have won something then forgotten how to do it rather than never have won but aiming to do it. If you see what I mean.

  2. samsenal

Cesc wanted to win with Arsenal, badly.

If we sign Suarez then Cesc will know that his signature will make us very very potent next season; think about an attacking 4 of Cesc, Suarez, Cazorla and Walcott.

Doesn’t he have a good relationship with Arteta too? He certainly does with Arsene Wenger and there is a lot of love left at the club for him.

and then there’s David Moyes….hmmmm. I’d be amazed if he chose United over us for Moyes and because he had a chat with van F*cking Persie.

  3. Young_Matt21

    Joke Friday:

I said, to my wife, “In the current climate I think we should adopt Greece’s attitude.”

She said, “What, pull out of Europe?”

“No,” I replied. “Have a lot more anal sex.”

  4. @snoekrats

    Nice comment in the dailymail.

I do believe we will get Suarez and I am already trying to force myself to like his buck tooth face.

Score goals and bite the horse plasenta of Van Persie and you will be a man my son.

  5. Ed

My theory is this: We obviously have a major say in where Cesc goes. I think we’ll allow him to move to Utd with Rooney coming to us for next to nothing – in some way, we are involved in that deal – just my opinion. Your thoughts?

  6. Pollux

Cesc + Suarez + a reliable utility defender and we will definitely be pushing for the title.

If Suarez bid fail to materialize, I can imagine Wenger going in for Michu (assuming Manure is bang on holding onto Rooney).

My thought is Wenger wants a class attacker straight from EPL with no bedding in time required.

  7. mach iii

If Suarez signs, then we’ll have the best CB, Best CM and best CF in the EPL, and one of the best in Europe.

Koscielny, Wilshere, Suarez. If These three key players can stay fit and on form, we could be on to really big things!

We just have to flesh it up around them, I think a formation of:

    Sczez/(Possibly a new GK)
    Sagna — Mert — Kos — Gibbs
    (Defensive midfielder)
    Wilshere — Arteta
    Cazorla
    Suarez — Giroud

Can challenge any team in Europe. We will be extremely versatile with this group of players!

  8. nuudles

Morning, I think the chances of us getting Suarez are for the first time better than the chances of us not getting him… Lpool have come out and said they dont want this to drag on. I think they are fully aware that it is much better to get rid quickly to give themselves as much time as possible to replace, and they dont want to miss an opportunity (eg Soldado) because they sat on their hands.

It also looks like the story could get nasty if they dont act with stories that Suarez is threatening action (arbitration).

With Real effectively pulling out it makes Lpool’s position even more vulnerable.

  9. Afc53

    Would love Suarez and Fabregas!

But I’d love a top two of Giroud and Podolski together with the midfield of Theo Jack Cesc Cazorla and a back four of
Sagna Kos Agger Gibbs with Chezzer in goal I think that’s a winning team

  10. KGold1

    Morning Pedro, Morning All.

And still, this whole headache of a period called the Transfer Window rumbles on.

Day 26 and we dont have anyone yet.

Should be pessimistic but somehow, I find myself having that little bit of hope that somehow, this window will still make enough sense to satisfy me.

    False hope??? Soon enough. Soon.

  11. Biggles

Just remember that Pep Guardiola only had a 4th division to his name when he became boss of the Barca A team. If you have a bit of tactical nous and happen to be at a club with the right players, you can win things. So don’t write Moyes off yet. I don’t think that United are going to capitulate into mediocrity just because SAF is gone. The appeal of United is that you will win things – they’ve not gone more than a year or so without a trophy for 30 years.

Whereas it feels like 30 years since we last won anything.

  12. ChairmansXI

Whilst I am fully behind the pursuit of Suarez I hope that it isn’t at the expense of strengthening the spine of our team.

Cesear would be a good option in goal, he is 33, experienced in the premier league and hopefully the competition would push Szczesny onto firmly establishing himself as our number one within the next 2 seasons.

As for a new Central Defender Ashley Williams is ideal for the premiership, however I am not convinced he could cut it in European Competition. Hummels would be ideal, along with Subotic, however it is highly unlikely Dotmund would sell either player. Sakho of PSG could be an option.

Now in terms of a midfielder with the discipline to screen the back four when our backs are against the wall and we need to hold firm, I don’t think Wenger will be able to resist picking out Coupe for €10, Norwich may have done us a favour there by lodging their bid for a player who has no interest in joining them. I don’t think Fellani has the technical grace Wenger demands in a player.

As much as I would love to see Cesc return, and I would hand him the armband before the ink had even dried on the contract, however was part of the reason why we sold him not his dodgy hamstrings, they won’t heal with age! Also if we purchase Suarez, a GK, CD and CM I do not feel there would be sufficient funds to bring back Cesc.

  13. Matt

Three weeks to go and so far only a young French injury prone player signed so far.

How is this transfer window any different from previous ones? Oh yeah, we have BID £40 million for a player, who we may well get. But what about all the other areas that we need to strengthen badly?

  14. Jake

    Biggles

Two years ago they finished trophyless and 30 years ago they were in the middle of a 26 year drought.

  15. Kiblib

I don’t think Cesc will leave this year, Barca have lost Thiago and they won’t want to lose Cesc until they have more cover.

Even if we don’t get Suarez we will have at least caused his relationship with Liverpool to break down so they are weakened. Hopefully some signings soon as the tour ends today.

  16. Marko

Moyes with his “ongoing” bullshit to me says Barca has said no not gonna happen and United are thinking we’ll bid again sure why not. Don’t think it’ll happen. Also everytime Liverpool come out and say Suarez isn’t for sale and then their manager comes out and says Arsenal need to up their offer it pisses me off. They’re rubbish these days, he wants out, he’s banned and it’s good money. Take it and build a new stadium you mugs

  17. kipper

I don’t know how can say that Liverpool have treated Suarez like a son but appear to have tricked him and his agent with the wording of his contract.

Pretty low if you ask me.

  18. Previgo

Brendan! Brendan! Oh brendan! Assuming when you were @swansea, both arsenal and liverpool came for you and it was now up to you to make a choice, will you choose liverpool ahead of arsenal??? LMFAO.. So why trying to warn suarez not to take a better option? We Humans! We would just about say anything to win a case or an argument.

  19. samsenal

Biggles, SAF as there for the majority of the period you mentioned.

Who do United on the pitch that is genuinely scary? RvP. That’s it. They used to have 5 or 6 Monsters in every SAF side that would make you quake in your boots every time they got the ball anywhere near the goal. They are still a great Unit and under Moyes that won’t change but right now, with the players they have got they are one RvP injury away from being toothless.

Compare that to Chelsea and City, and if Cesc and if Suarez comes to us, compare that to Arsenal.

    Arsenal (+Suarez) & Cesc > United & Cesc

  20. Dannyboy

Ed, you’re about the 290494747th person to suggest that on here… i honestly don’t know what you’re smoking mate… That would be equivalent to us saying we will let Madrid have a free run at signing Suarez, if they do us a cheap deal on Kaka…

  21. andy1886

If we get all we wish for then great, but that’s no guarantee we’ll win the league. It’s also about how you use your resources. Citeh and Chelski had a better team and a better squad than United last season, but who won the title?

I’d still be concerned because Wenger doesn’t do tactics (look, it’s 70th minute and here come the subs right on shedule – watch the opposition? we play our game and don’t worry about them). Then there’s Arsene’s ability to take a decent player and stick them in a totally unsuited position (Ramsey on the wing anyone?).

So when you’re posting about ‘this team would win the title’ remember to take the Wenger factor into consideration.

  22. Jake

Ramsey on the wing has clearly improved his game. He won’t be leaving either, it was worth the ‘bad times’ of him on the wing because of how much better he is now.

  23. andy1886

Chairman – Cesar is rubbish. I’d rather stick with what we have, Flappy has a year to prove himself and win a new contract, that should also push Szczesny to up his game.

  24. Romford Pele

“Ramsey on the wing has clearly improved his game”

This is essentially the point. Wenger never planned to play him there long term. It was to simplify his game and improve his decision-making so that when he moved back to the middle, he’d be a better player for it. You’ll notice now that he no longer dwells on the ball like he used to and his decision-making has improved drastically.

  25. andy1886

Yup, I heard it was supposed to improve his footwork, but no I don’t think that was the best way to go about it. That’s what the training ground is for isn’t it? Didn’t do Bentner much good out there either.

  26. Kiblib

    Andy

Ramsey on the wing was done because it meant that he would have to have better close control and learn to work in tight spaces as winger only have half the space of a CM

  27. Romford Pele

“That’s what the training ground is for isn’t it? Didn’t do Bentner much good out there either.”

You can only do so much on the training ground – competitive matches is where it’s put to the test. Bendtner’s an egotistical git. He was never willing to learn, that’s part of his problem. And it hasn’t exactly served him well.

  28. Arsenal2174

I couldn’t bare to see Cesc in a Man U shirt feeding killer passes to Van C#nting.. Why hasn’t Wenger made any real noises of course we don’t know what is being said in private but I don’t think I could take it it would leave me feeling very disalousioned with Arsenal.

  29. Gregg

All part of the education. Gerrard played wide right at the start of his Liverpool career. It’s a good education and doing it, if you can, in competitive action is far better than in training.

  30. Ash79

Everyone connected with Liverpool Football Club; fans, players, managers, EX-players etc are locked in the 70s and 80s. LFC as a title competing club died with the adevnt of the Premier League era. Bar one season where Benitez pushed United, they’ve been a cack leage team. Also lets not forget the millions they have spent down the years.

Even Tottenham is bigger and better proposition for a player.

Note to Northern club fans – just cos you have your club’s badge tattoed on your ass doesnt make your club big.

  31. andy1886

Talking of Bendtner, assuming we can’t unload him would you give him a squad place? I know he claimed he wouldn’t play for us again but he may have to eat humble pie. A year out in the stiffs wouldn’t do his prospects much good and to be fair if he actually got a decent run in his proper position he could be okay as a back up (injuries and suspensions do happen!).

Quite simple its not finished yet. We’re bidding £40m + for players….slightly different wouldn’t you say?

  33. WengersSweeties

I find Brendan Rodgers a bit of a hypocrite. He’s talks of the size of Liverpool as a club while saying Suarez should show his loyalty. If Liverpool were still a big club he wouldn’t be managing them thats for sure and if he was interested in loyalty he’d still be managing Swansea or Watford.

If I were him I’d lay off a little, the ball is in his court so there’s no need to sound quite so desperate, unless that clause in Suarez’ contract is turning out to mean more than he thought…?

  34. Oota

Ran into David Dein last night in Greece. Didn’t get much time to talk about football but when he found out I was a Gooner he did say we were trying to sign three players but that no-one wanted our money….I’m not saying he knows exactly what is going on at the club these days but I’m sure he’s very much got his ear to the ground being good mates with Arsene…..interesting nonetheless…..

I’m guessing Suarez, Cesc and Williams….

    Isn’t his son Fabregas’ agent?

  35. Gregg

    Romford;
The problem is those things were said before his barca dream turned sour. I doubt he ever envisaged that they may well be prepared to reject him for a second time.

  36. Romford Pele

“I find Brendan Rodgers a bit of a hypocrite. He’s talks of the size of Liverpool as a club while saying Suarez should show his loyalty. If Liverpool were still a big club he wouldn’t be managing them thats for sure and if he was interested in loyalty he’d still be managing Swansea or Watford.”

    True true.

  37. Romford Pele

    Gregg,

But do Barca want to reject him? Rosell said last week that Cesc was nontransferable – sounds pretty conclusive to me. Who knows though, it’s all up in the air. One thing’s for sure though, if Cesc does come back to England, he won’t say yes to Barca again.

  38. Gregg

    oota,
Don’t doubt it mate, Dein will know very much whats going on with the club. he still has some very loyal contacts there.
I would guess Bender will be one of those mentioned.

  39. Romford Pele

Starting Team: Fabianski, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Miquel, Arteta, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Giroud, Gnabry.

Anyone gonna watch – a lot of pace in that side. Nice to see Ox in the middle again. Don’t think we’ll be seeing him on the wing anymore.

  40. Gunnershabz

There still good players out there that would improve our side

Hernanes of lazio excellent two footed midfielder

Adil rami of Valencia French international

  41. Matt

    Dan

Its different in as much as we have never bid £40 million before yes, but will you be happy going onto the season with no big name signings, but with the consolation that we BID big!?

I’m very nervous that if we dont get Suarez, then what?? And like I said, even if we do get him, there is more work to be done and time is ticking!!

  42. arsenal tom

Bendy also played on the wing because it gave us a better chance of retaining possession from GKs because he could win 90% of headers against smaller full backs marking him.

  43. ikon

Suarez will be a positive reinforcement not just number wise, but he will compliment Giroud well in 2 striker system if we try that out.

Btw, Hummels for 20 million will be a better buy than Bernard for 20. Let Gnabry step up to the plate, else we can have Oxlade who can play there.

Gnabry for me has the best temperament out of all youth players I have seen. He will absolutely rock the scene if given a chance. I normally am not this sure to tell things out loud, but then this guy is a real performer.

  44. nuudles

I agree with the others on here, get Suarez, Cesc + Sakho/Papadopoulos/etc and we must surely be in with a shout of a trophy. Yes our gks are far from world class, but with a more assured defence they performed decently in the run-in.

Although Miquel is not the most enterprising LB back-up, by having another CB option frees him up to be emergency LB backup. Also if we do get a Sakho he can also play LB.

  45. Romford Pele

Hummels will cost a great deal more than £20m for sure. And he won’t be coming to us, I can tell you that. Dortmund have no reason to sell to us and will not sell to us.

  46. Savage

Pedro on form… “Then it leads to violence. Someone always leaves. It’s never me.” That’s the injury time winner right there.

  47. Dan

    Matt

Im with you mate we need additions and its Suarez or bust for us Im thinking. With what is happening at Liverpool there is no way now that Suarez will be there at the start of the season. Time is certainly ticking but we’ve been told to expect action at the end of July and I fully expect that. Im getting nervous that we’re taking so long but its different this widow cos I do think the intent is there.

    Romford

Going to try watch at work on the quiet which is harder than you think! Expect the win but looking forward to seeing Jackie start and another OG goal

  48. ikon

Yup I know Hummels is not going to be easy deal. But I saw these rumors in the last blog post in comments. Strange that we are going heads on for all difficult targets this summer. But a welcome change in intent nonetheless.

25 million should let Dortmund think more on this, I believe though if we can work harder we can get easier and cheaper targets in defensive positions.

Up top, I think we are after the best striker that has not moved already.. that includes recent movements of Cavani and Higuain.

I also think the best way to spend 80 million would be Suarez, Cesc and a CB, with Gnabry, Eisefield and Miquel given chance in the premier league matches.

  49. Gunnershabz

Mats Hummel is a no go Dortmund wont even sell lewandoski why would they sell hummels

Realistic targets are Adil rami or Ashley Williams

  50. Gunnershabz

I still think we did try to sign stephan el shawarmy because Milan need to money but I think he decided to stay with Milan

  51. Vish

Buying Suarez would probably secure top four for years to come. Hmmmm……. Is this the thinking behind this transfer? I would like to think that we are looking to build something special around this guy so that we can start competing for the Prem and CL. I just don’t know.

If the estimates about having around £200mill in the bank I true, then I think it would be foolish not to buy him-even for £50mill, yes £50mill. Opportunities to buy the very best do not come around too often, particularly for teams like Arsenal and I can’t see how we can allow this one to pass us by. What’s more is that It’ll be a huge embarrassment on the club if they don’t end up pushing this deal through. This is why I think we’ll increase the bid to about £45mill with add ons and this should hopefully do the trick.

Some fans seem more worried about the club spending money than the club are. You really think that we’d spend this amount of money if weren’t in a comfortable position to do so? Listen…I’d rather we spend this money then leave it sitting in the bank at the year end, which is most probably what will happen if we miss out on this signing. I think that Wenger’s already decided on the players he wants to bring in regardless of what happens with Suarez. These are going to be the usual bargain basement players. I do not think this purchase will actually have a filtering affect on other potential signings.

We’re so behind the rest now. Only players of this quality will do.

  52. Matt

I hope so Dan. I still cant for the life of me understand why we are yet again leaving everything so late though.

  53. Gunnershabz

Regarding bernand well the club want 22m and he is off he has a lot of potential but I don’t think we be signing him

  54. sylvain

    Vish: totally agree!!
And let’s not forget that the top 4 is the main target for Wenger!!

    Not funny ??

‘I mean no offense, but Thanks Giving is spelt Thanksgiving in the states’

    Who gives a shit Geoff?!

  56. nuudles

Hummels will not happen. What can we promise him Dortmund cannot at the moment? He is a guaranteed starter, they have won a ton more than us over the past 3 years, they have a very exciting manager. I can think of two reasons why he might be wanting to leave:
1 – if he believes their glory days are gone (losing Kagawa, Sahin & Gotze might point to problems, but they have been replaced by the likes of Reus, Henrikh Mkhitaryan & Aubameyang AND Sahin is back – on loan – but possibly permanent later, also noises about them wanting to buy Kagawa back)
2 – money, but if he is available I am sure the likes of Barca will be interested because their biggest weakness is in defence and there are few better ball-playing CBs out there

We have a much better chance of getting Sakho as he has fallen down the pecking order at PSG.

  57. Romford Pele

Nuudles – hit the nail on the head RE Hummels. Dortmund themselves also have a lot of money so for me it’s just a non-starter.

  58. Dan

    Gunnershabz

Dortmund would listen to offers for Lewandovski but just wont sell to Bayern.

Hummels would cost BIG money. Quality CB and more than comfortable playing DM…maybe something in that?
Quick, strong and good on the ball. Future german captain and well worth £25m+
Whats not to like! Oh he’s not for sale thats right

  59. N5

nuudles, I didn’t rate Sahin in the UK, how has he faired in Germany? I must admit I’m completely ignorant of his ability.

  60. Romford Pele

Sahin is good but no dissimilar to what we have at Arsenal already. Liverpool played him as the number 10 but Sahin is more a deep-lying playmaker and expressed his discontent and being played so far forward.

I mean no offense, but Thanks Giving is spelt Thanksgiving in the states
    ———————————————————————————————

It’s our language you’re speaking, we spell it how we like.

    No offense.

  62. nuudles

N5, Klopp loves him, thats pretty much all you need to know. He is quite like Xavi, not the quickest but brilliant at pulling the strings if he has classy opponents to play with. At Lpool he bombed because of his lack of pace which makes you more vulnerable in the more physical PL, also think he was played in the hole which is not his position (as Lpool play Gerrard as the box-to-box).

He didnt work at Real because Modric is just better than him (he is a player who should play a lot more, kind of idiotic how Real prefer either of XAlonso or Khedira to Modric when he is much better than either of them – Alonso was good and is still decent but he is past his best).

  63. Negation

Why do people think Cesc would come back to Arsenal? Because he didn’t behave as bad as Ade before leaving? He may have loved his time at Arsenal, but that doesn’t mean he would want to return even if he left Barca. I keep asking myself, why would Man U keep bidding for Cesc if they didn’t have a feeling – or something stronger – that he’d be interested in playing for them.

  64. Marko

For me if we miss out on Bernard I’d be disappointed at this point. Also Rami would be a good signing. Suarez, Bernard, DM, Rami and Ruffier/Rui Patricio.

  65. nuudles

What do you guys think of a sneaky £25m bid for Ozil? I know his perceived fitness is not great but that is because he just works so hard, whether he can cope with being pushed around/kicked in the PL is another question but the league has mellowed a bit in that respect of late.

With Real getting Isco & Illaremendi (sp?) and still having Modric, Kaka, Alonso & Khedira they are quite stocked in the midfield. Ozil & Suarez & CB/DM would be a pretty special summer. Would obviously prefer Cesc to Ozil but I dont think Cesc will move unless Barca are in serious financial troubles.

  66. The Hig

Can we just someone thru the fucking door already!!! Suarez, Fellaini, Bernard, Cesar, Hummels, Sakho, Lewandowski, who the hell is next? I’m sure Wenger will bring Fakin Nowun with him from Asia. Preety Good player I hear.

  67. Romford Pele

    Nuudles,

Ozil/Di maria may well come on the market if Madrid get Bale. My friend is a Madrid fan and apparently he’s already moaning about being shunted to the right due to the signing of Isco.

  68. nuudles

@Savage, I dont think it will take as much, low £40’s (probably £44m?) would take it now that Real have basically pulled out. Also the situation is starting to come to the boil for them and if they are not cautious they could get burnt badly. It is in everyone’s best interest that the deal goes through quickly so that he can settle in with us and they can move on and find a replacement before all the decent options are taken (Soldado the most obvious target).

Last thing they want is to be basically forced to sell him to us (as we know there is not much use in keeping a disinterested player) close to the deadline with no time to bring in anyone/no one of appropriate class available to bring in…

  69. arsenal tom

nuudles, think Kaka is off mate.

    Alonso, Kehdira
    Isco, ozil, de maria
    ronaldo

with illaramendi, modric, benzema, morata, rodriguez as cover for those spots so cant see it to be honest.

  70. Marko

Well we’re gonna buy a winger since Gervinho is off. Obviously Bernard’s probably still on the piss after winning the other night.

  71. Romford Pele

    Arsenal Tom,

It looks more like this currently:

    Alonso Modric
    Ozil Isco Ronaldo
    Benzema

    Great attacking options.

    Bench
    Di Maria
    Illaramendi
    Khedira
    Morata
    Jese Rodriguez
    Kaka

  72. Romford Pele

Arsenal Tom, Madrid are promoting Morata and Jese Rodriguez – both are huge talents and can play up top.

  73. Ash79

chaps..Moyes aint stupid, there is something there…as i said last week. If he’s been lying to his new fans just to look tough and its all a bit of PR, the truth will out and will explode spectaculary in his face. High risk tactics.

  74. Moanalisa

Psg now have a french manager, so I think sakho’s chances would improve, and he also played most games towards the end of the season.

But if arsenal are to buy sakho, I’ll have him as a defensive midfielder, I believe he will blossom there.

  75. Wallace

It was Hummels who laid into Goetze for moving to Bayern. Baffled as to why he would leave a club as good and as well-run as Dortmund. No way he’s coming to Arsenal.

  76. Romford Pele

“But if arsenal are to buy sakho, I’ll have him as a defensive midfielder, I believe he will blossom there.”

Why? Because he’s big and strong?

  77. Paulinho

If Suarez doesn’t kick up a fuss sharpish (today or weekend) we can safely say we’re not signing him.

  78. RayGooner

We were linked with him last summer, but now it looks like we’re in for him again…

Noe van Els is coming to us!!!!

  79. Romford Pele

    Moanalisa,

Just buy a specialist. He’s never played there for a prolonged period of time so how you can ascertain that he’d be a success there is beyond me. Converting from a CB into a DM is like learning a whole new trade, irrespective of whether you think the individual has the right attributes or not. It’s like the people who think Vermaelen will make a good DM – i’m sorry but he’d be awful there.

  80. N5

That was friendly! There was an exclamation mark and everything and not a cunt or fuck in sight!

Lol I know Dan, it was kind of sweet. 😀

  81. Kushagra

Just bought a Liverpool FC advent calendar. Fucking typical, all the windows are boarded up and some cunts nicked all the fucking chocolate.

  82. arsenal tom

amazing the amount of people that cain Wenger for giving Ramsey/Bendtner a few games on the wing to develop him but still think professional players should be playing in different positions.

Just waiting for someone to put Verm up as the answer to our DM troubles….

  83. Dannyboy

Romford, they are vile humans mate..

They did the same with Gerrard I recall when he wanted to go to Chelsea..

Love to see those horrible cunts in tears again when Suarez joins us!

  84. arsenal tom

Romford… Either way looks unlikely they’d let Ozil go, he’s top class and not peaked.

Although if they sold him to us to fund the Bale deal it would probably be the greatest deal and knock on effect from a deal possible.

  85. Kushagra

A teacher starts a new job at a primary school on Merseyside and, trying to make a good impression on her first day, explains to her class that she’s a big football fan and supports Liverpool. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Liverpool fans.
Everyone in the class raises their hand except one little girl. The teacher looks at the girl with surprise and says: “Mary, why didn’t you raise your hand?”
“Because I’m not a Liverpool fan miss,” she replies. The teacher, still shocked asks:”Well, if you’re not a Liverpool Fan, then who are you a fan of?”
“I’m a West Ham fan, and proud of it,” Mary replies. The teacher can’t believe her ears. “Mary, how come you’re a Hammers fan?”
“Because my mum and dad are from London’s East End and are West Ham fans, so I’m a West Ham fan too!”
“Still,” says the teacher, annoyed, “that’s no reason for you to be a West Ham fan as well. You don’t have to be like your parents all the time, do you? What if your mum was a prostitute and your dad was a drug addict and car thief. Would you be like them then?”
“No,” smiles Mary, “I’d be a Liverpool fan.

  86. nuudles

@ james wood, Santi is pretty sharp, and even though he does not always look it, Poldi too. Oxo (and for that matter Jack) has linked up very well with Rooney and I think Rooney and Suarez are quite similar football-intelligence-wise.

  87. Kushagra

A young lad asks his mum where his new Liverpool top is.

“I washed it and it’s drying on the line.”

The young lad rushes to the window to see his beloved Liverpool top lying in the mud.

“Mum, why is my Liverpool top in the mud?”

His mum looks out of the window and shouts, “The thieving gits have nicked the pegs again!”

  88. N5

“Romford, they are vile humans mate..
They did the same with Gerrard I recall when he wanted to go to Chelsea..
Love to see those horrible cunts in tears again when Suarez joins us!”

I couldn’t agree more, they are a horrible bunch of “supporters”, absolute scum!

  89. sylvain

Fabregas to yoonited, he would looooooooooove to play for moyes.

I wonder if this signing might disgust me of football forever.
    That’s a fucking good question…

  90. Kushagra

My wife’s scouse friend is staying with us at the moment.

She said, “I’m really freaked out by all those blokes hanging round the children’s playground.”

I said, “We have a name for people like that round these parts: FATHERS.”

  91. Wallace

James Wood – jack & santi would be fine. and it’s not all about brains. any gifted creative player loves having a speed merchant(walcott) to look for.

  92. gilo

I can’t believe that we still have Fabianski playing in goal for us – no other team in the top half of the table has such shit goalkeepers as we have had since 2006. Wenger’s stubbon refusal year after year to address this key issue is one of many reasons why he should have been sacked years ago.

  93. Romford Pele

    😀

  94. Jake

What is up with Theo at the moment, I’m not worried because I know he can finish and does it when it counts but on this tour he’s been sooooooo hot and cold, more so than normal

  95. Kushagra

I bumped into a man crying uncontrollably outside a department store in Liverpool yesterday and all he could go on about was how he hates this time of year, dressing up in a ridiculous red outfit and embarrassing himself in front of thousands of people.

I said, “Look, Mr. Gerrard, you chose to play for Liverpool.”

  96. Romford Pele

I hope Theo’s getting all these misses out of the way early. He’s normally a lot more assured than this.
