Cazorla out left, Coquelin holding and Jack in the hole please

by & filed under Match Preview.

It’s a big day and an early kick off for Arsenal fans. We’re taking on the erratic talent over at the Bridge and anything less than 3 points will be a disaster in the race for the top 4. It still pains me that I have to talk about top four as our main goal these days.

Team news is hard to come by, as far as I can tell, there’s not much to talk about. Podolski might not play which I think is great news if it involves keeping the same line up as the other night. Cazorla works well out wide, and a midfield trio of Jack, Diaby and Coquelin has a balance and discipline we’ve missed most of the season. I really love having Diaby back, even if it’s only for a month. I still can’t believe we don’t possess another midfielder with similar traits…

Giroud will suit a game like Chelsea as the central striker, but the midfield and widemen have to give him ammo. Good delivery into the box is essential of we’re going to make an impact of any sort today. Hopefully we can see a clinical game from the aggressive Frenchman. His fortunes are certainly due a turn… He’s starting to play a more pivotal role in our game, I’ve certainly noticed his involvement levels increase over the last few games he’s played… even coming off the bench.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Theo can do today. He played a shocker last week against Swansea…. will he lose his confidence and have another bad game or will he show some maturity and justify the big boy wages he’s been granted?

Wenger has called for aggression. Something he’s made a habit of stamping out of the side over the years. Teams aren’t scared of us and referees certainly don’t worry about us playing up. That gives bully boys an advantage. I don’t think we get knocked around as easily as we did a couple of years ago, but we certainly don’t have a winners nasty streak about us. You can inject that if you have an aggressive winner manning the ship. Or you let Steve Bould have a say… Little things like crowding out the ref or defending your team mates in packs have a massive impact on decisions. It’s not nice to watch, but why do you think all the best sides do it?

I’ve no idea what to expect today. If we win, kiss goodbye to any dreams of inbound players. If we lose, don’t get your hopes up.

Either way, enjoy it and I’ll catch you for the write up tomorrow.

The PSG rumour is the same as the Cavani rumour and is designed to have the same effect; i.e. prove that Wenger is still a great manager because he considers world class players and is himself being considered by other top clubs. Neither is true.

In football gossip even the mere suggestion of something that cannot possibly happen seems to have leverage over opinion and it is only that which is being manipulated, nothing else. The reason it happens is because in football you can say just about anything you like about whoever you like and nobody minds and it is not necessary to prove any of it. All it does is stoke the fires that drive Wenger’s remit to carry on.

For some inexplicable and demented reason, a lot of people (and I mean the majority of people – not necessarily all fans) still support Wenger’s methods and either don’t know the details of what he’s actually done in the last eight years or think nothing of it. We on here have dissected everything in great detail and have found him to be wanting. Other people don’t do that. They just look at three things.

    1. Past success, i.e. eleven trophies
    2. Top four finish in all his 16 years
    3. New Stadium

On paper and without going into details, it looks brilliant doesn’t it? But when you add all the shitty stuff the scales drop to the floor.

    1. Persisting with a flat wage structure for nearly a decade now has meant we have lost all our best players, we cannot attract top talent and cannot sell the dross because nobody wants to pay their wages. As a result we squander millions on deadwood and injury prone players.

    2. Artificial cap on transfer fees means we will always be beaten to world class players by the likes of Chelsea, Man U and Man City.

    3. The new stadium doubled the number of seats but tripled the prices and today they are the highest in the land.

    4. We have lost all competitive edge because it has clearly been spelt out that we are not interested in winning anything but merely securing a CL place and that is only because we want the money.

    5. We have bought so many cheap players and only a very few have turned out to be stars; all of whom have now left for bigger and better things.

    6. Project youth was a costly experiment that died a natural death; we are still paying the costs.

    7. We are now “supposedly” waiting for FFP to come to the rescue which it won’t.

Quite apart from the faults and shortcomings of the owner and board (and they are many), the above six items are totally and utterly Wenger’s doing. How can I be happy with a manager who’s done that?

So, anyone that prefers the three pros and is prepared to accept the seven cons, they are welcome to their glorious leader. The truth is that we are going no where until this regime changes; preferably all of it; owner, board and manager and I couldn’t care less where they go.

The club is slowly being eaten by maggots from the inside and so long as the shiny exterior remains, the AKBs are happy to go on with their accolades and misguided opinions.

  2. tb

Did you not watch the game on wednesday? Cazorla out wide did not work. Gibbs was to exposed. Would prefer Wilshere Coquelin Cazorla in mid with Theo on the left, Giroud centre and dare i say Ramsey on the right. Who remembers how good Ramsey was last year at the bridge ? Same again please Ramsey time to shut the critics up.

  3. andy1886

Two thirds of the transfer window gone and not a sniff of a signing. Disgraceful, Wenger can kiss goodbye to the fourth place trophy unless someone gets theIr act together PDQ.

One point out of nine is sacking material, if anyone had the balls to do it.

  4. Kurt F

Diaby is a good player when fit – it’s just everyone but Wenger realises that his place in the first 11 is never going to be anything but temporary.

We need back up – Diame is a steal at 3.5m, M’Vila and Capoue are available too. Arteta is a good player but he’s not a suitable Diaby replacement – just look how much better we play when we have Diaby in the team. Failure to strengthen in this area is almost criminal neglect on the part of the manager, and when Diaby breaks down again it’s going to cost the team big time unless we have a back up.

  5. Tom Gibson

I find it hard to believe we will get pasted.. By a team on similar form very inconsistent!! If we line up as suggested above I think it’s a very compact strong team, which can only be positive! Forget what is going on up top the players and result are most important FOR TODAY.
Today we will see whether we should of stuck or twisted regarding ba-Giroud !

  6. Pollux

There is no chance we can nick something at the bridge today. We might even get whipped with our porous generous back 5. Praying for a face saving 0-1 defeat via an unfortunate deflected goal.

  7. Dplanet

    Jeff has said it all.

My heart will always want Arsenal to win every game, but my head wants us to get smashed today so we can move towards Wenger’s departure. My worry is that his position at the club is unassailable, whatever happens on the pitch.

  9. S Asoa

Wenger is living on delusions of the past which were to large extent a result of the players and spirit he inherited . Wenger has already become known as a denuded dotard . When he leaves arsenal he can tend to his sour grapes. If he is picked by a top team so much the better since he will run a competitor to the ground. Good riddance . But let us hope he flips for good tonight .

  10. reggie 57

Funny that as soon as there is any fan’s rumbling’s of discontent Wenger get’s linked to all the top job’s PSG this year, last year RM!! well got news for you Arsenal no one is gonna fall for this bollock’s again !!

    Wenger Out !!

  11. sylvesters

Diaby is and will never be a solution to arsnal’s situation. Wenger is an asshole of a manage and increasingly becoming an intolerable pain to arsenal fc and fans. Im happy PSG requires him so that he can go and empathise wt n entertain French and french affiliated failing players there, like squilaci, silvester

  12. Oderindemotayo@gmail.com

Wenger’s arsenal’s biggest problem…i rily dnt knw when he’ll chnge hs transfer policies n all of d youth development shit he carries.i c a draw or lucky win by d gunners.

  13. Moray

I am hoping for one of those rare games tonight where we actually click and get a head of steam up.

I fear another gutless, clueless, shapeless, amateurish team performance against a team that is much better than us on paper…

  14. karaul

Arsenal: Arteta, Rosicky (both calf), Gervinho (international duty), Fabianski (ankle)

    rosicky is injured again. jesus..

  15. Cesc Appeal

    Pedro

    Hahaha.

We all know don’t get our hopes up, doubt anyone’s incoming.

IF Diavy gets injured again Wenger will only then sanction the MASSIVE £3.5 Million move for Diamie.

  16. kethees

“It still pains me that I have to talk about top four as our main goal these days.”

Dont worry Pedro you will get used to it.

    little story for you:

Person: plase tell about my life & my future
Astrologer: its gonna be very very bad for next 2 years
    Person: After that….
Astrologer: dont worry you’ll get used to it

  17. sylvesters

What arsenal record has wenger kept untouched now??.. Maybe the 49match unbeaten record by the “invisibles”. Only. He is senile as far as re-kindling arsenal ‘s glory. Its time he goes and take his “deadwoods” with him to PSG. He should take “Abou”, squilaci, chamakh, johan, santo n ramsey. I pray that “the special one is given a chance to restore our glory that has been burried by this French deadwood lover, and a fluk of a manager called asshole wenger. OPERATION WENGER OUT N MOURNIHO IN (O.W.O.M.I).

Do you guys expect Wenger to go and pay 75% tax on his salary, hmm, i don’t think so .
No club on the planet will offer Wenger What Arsenal FC offer him, what he get at Arsenal is a dream come true. I’m afraid we are stuck with him for the experiment 2.

  20. Inter YourGran

OI! It’s game day against Chelsea, a win puts us right back in the mixer and you’ve got sniveling excuses for Arsenal fans hoping we lose, bleating on about spending money and whinging about the Manager/Walcott.

FFS! At least do it after the game you pieces of excrement.

COME ON THE RED & WHITES!!!

    Arben

  22. SpanishDave

The plan is Diaby for three weeks then Arteta back to the end of the season. Wenger will not buy he is feeling so sorry for poor old Diaby at the expense of winning anything.
Maybe panick buying only if we get stuffed today

  23. Sid Murrey

    @Inter

    Well said.

I have a downer on the board/manager same as everyone else, but the Team i love is still playing a team i despise today.

    Come on The Arsenal!!!!!

  24. gazzap

I have always preferred Theo on the left. Look at those couple of games recently when he was played supposedly through the middle. Like Henry used to, he took up positions on the left and tended to score goals and was more dangerous from the left hand side of the penalty box, curling round the keeper etc. If that’s what suits his natural game then he should be kept there. Playing on the right is another case of square pegs in round holes.
Sure theo can cross from the right better than left but I’d prefer to go with a goal threat than a better cross threat. Teams don’t score many goals from crosses, least of all Arsenal.
    Cazorla can play right too.

  25. andy1886

Wenger wont go even if we lose the next ten games so there’s no point in praying for a defeat, only an empty stadium will convince Stan and we’re all too addicted to give it all up. So we’re stuck with the senile old goat until the end of his contract. Things will get a lot worse before this is over.

  26. Cesc Appeal

I just read that Arsenal are ‘keen to extend Wenger’s contract.’

If that happens I hope there is open revolt, whether you love him or hate him, it’s time for him to go

  27. Cesc Appeal

    DD

    Oh sorry.

    Arsenal 10 Chelsea 0!!!

    Grow up mate.

Do you think Villa fans all write ‘YEAHHHH we’ll smash Chelsea.’

Learn where your team is in the world

  28. andy1886

Pedro, Cazorla needs a rest, he’s looking jaded. Let’s not run him into the ground like we’ve done with Jack, Arteta and so many others.

How about Jenkinson on the right ahead of Sagna – good engine, can cross a ball and will add some protection down that side.

If Poldi was fit I’d say put him up top with Theo on the left, if not we’ll have to persist with OG and hope it all clicks for him today. And of course the BFG at the back and Kos nowhere near the starting IX please.

  29. Cesc Appeal

    Andy

I tend to agree, he looks shattered at the moment.

I’d go with Walcott – Podolski – Ox up top.

Bags of pace, Poldy and Ox are both strong and the German knows where the onion bag is

  30. karaul

    podolski is injured too.

this will be our attack / midfield –

    cazorla – giroud – walcott

    diaby – wilshere – coquelin

  31. Cesc Appeal

£6.8 Million for Mbwia…what are we doing?!!!

£13 Million for Mbwia and M’Vila?

The price of Gervinho for those two?

  32. Johnny5

    Morning grovers

Unlike me I’m quietly optimistic we can do a smash and grab at the scummy Russians ground. I am expecting theo to show us what he can do today he’s just got his big boy dollar and he knows if he doesn’t deliver the away fans will abuse him. Diaby needs to have a good day he’s up against a top midfield but they’re probably deflated after the saints game if there was ever a game where we could do with the Diaby that isn’t shit and giving the ball away it’s today. 3 points today were still in the mix I think lose and it’s gonna be a difficult 5-6 weeks till the spurs game.

  33. sam

no ramsey today please, coq in the hole and we will shaft the chavs.
bench theo, cazorla on the left chambo on the right n podolski in the middle

Ultimately does it really matter what we think of Wenger? How many of you became Arsenal supporters because of who the manager was? When they play the team comes first.

All this ‘for the long term benefit’ is BS. Losing won’t hasten Wenger’s demise, but the club being a bunch of losers will put off players from joining on the odd occasion tight-fisted Wenger spends.

  36. Simon mcmahon

That bench is truly awful !!! And really says it all about wengers greatest squad!! Frimpong who hasn’t played a first team game for well over a year and three defenders !! Well and santos is one of them !! And no recognised striker , what a shame this lunatic still runs our club!

  37. Jeff

When two thirds of the squad are all grade C players, is it even worth bothering talking about “one or two signings”? We all know how difficult it is to win trophies these days so Arsene doesn’t bother any more. He thinks throwing good money at a lot of rubbish players is better than throwing the same money on fewer world class ones. Anyone who supports Wenger has to support that argument even though it hasn’t a leg to stand on.

  38. Marko

If we get to feb 1st with no one coming in and players like M’Biwa, Remy and M’Vila go to other teams for cheap and we have a need for those type of players and have scouted them. I’ll go mental I swear

  41. Guns of Hackney

IF THERE IS ANY POWER IN PRAYER, HEAR MY CALLS.

PLEASE DO NOT LET ARSENAL GET ANYTHING FROM THIS GAME!!!!!!

I couldn’t stand watching that smug count, Arsene lapping up a point, or god forbid, 3 points.

Come on you Chav c u n t s and fucking smash us.

    Wenger out, now and always!!!!!!

  42. ikon

Well the last two games for me shows a little bit on the manager’s knowledge of football and the premier league in specific. People call on to play players like Arshavin and Cazorla in the center, Jack says Cazorla is a dribbler and all that stuff… Cazorla barely plays half a season and is out of steam… we play Wilshere in central position for a season and he is out of next season. Bottomline, there is just one Fabregas and in premier league a central player, if he cannot find a pass without having to dribble too much, he will get burnt out sooner than later. I would shout in the manager’s ear to resign Fabregas and maybe tempt them to sell Villa as well for say 40 million. It will be money very well spent.

  43. Maciek

Relax Guns of Hackney, it will be a walk in the park for…..chelsea.

What a c**p bench. And this French maniac isn’t going to strenghten us.

M’Bia was available for 7m pounds (soon he will be worth 25m) and he did nothing.

    Taxi for Wenger.

  44. GoonerDave

How can those of you who want Arsenal to lose call yourselves Arsenal supporters? You are actually opposed to supporting the club, because your personal vendetta against the manager is more important to you than Arsenal.
    That is being an anti-supporter.
If you wish to boo at the end of a poor performance thats fine. But if you claim to support the team, then do it and stop moaning.
I hope we absolutely destroy the Chavs today. I will always want Arsenal to win.
The same people whinging that we dont have a winning mentality are hoping to lose matches. Are you really and truly Arsenal supporters? Because youre not supporting anything other than a personal viewpoint.

  45. Cesc Appeal

    M’Bwia £6.8 Million
    M’Vila £7.5 Million
    Diame £3.5 Million

    £17 Million for those three.

How much stronger we’d be with them…

  46. Arben

There is an old saying ,” If you fool me once shame on you ,if you fool me twice shame on me”
Wenger has been fooling us for the past 7 years at least, absolutely shame on us, for leting this Dodgy guy fooling us continually year in year out.

  47. Jeff

Just on most people’s contention that Man U winning the league is necessarily foregone conclusion. Don’t forget that if it wasn’t for Van Persie they would be very far from where they are. Last season Van Persie was firing on all cylinders and scoring for fun when he was playing for Arsenal. However, come February and on, he began to wind down and really we managed to skim top four by the seat of our pants. It’s not beyond all reason that a similar sort of collapse could happen to Man U as well.

Whether they accept it or not, they have become what we once were; a one man team. Now of course we are a no-man team.

  48. Maciek

    It’s always 3rd rate goona.
Polish Canal Plus is showing this game, but I won’t watch it. I won’t waste my life on it.

Well Said GoonerDave, i think it is disgraceful and hope those wishing the worst for our club actually leave before Wenger followed by him resigning. Theres a real vile vibe amongst these “fans” at the moment that is not needed.

I feel like Pedro needs to say something about these boys wishing loses on an Arsenal Fans blog

  50. andy1886

So, Santo plays. Wenger has no idea about managing players, GPS my arse!! Money on him getting an injury first week of Feb because of over playing. Not that he’s really on his game right now because he’s knackered Wenger you blind deluded old twat!!

And AW will say: “How was I supposed to know that half my midfield would be out injured just after the transfer window shut?”.

  51. Simon mcmahon

, always want the arsenal to win every game from the kids the ladies to the first team , but this man is finished seriously if there are truly thinking of a new contract offer to him , we must all get together and vote with our feet , wallets and purses , bombard the press , social media, we must counter act this American led propagand machine, wenger out and all the money grabbing Americans ,

  52. Al

Anyone Else think we should be looking at Benteke…Looks like the real deal, great pace, skills, powerful, good finisher….looks a real everytime i have seen him and he is young

  53. andy1886

Al, Benteke seems a bit hit or miss, some great games, some awful ones. May be worth a punt, but it’d be a risk when we have the money to invest in proven top class talent (just not the will to actually do it).

  54. TC

I play for a league team. I think I am good, but often as I dribble with the ball I get tackled and frustratingly fall over. I try to score by shooting but the ball seems to go over the bar as I lean back and I don’t seem to be able to get power in the shot. My corners, crosses and free-kicks are woeful. Luckily lately the Manger has allowed me to play up front because I blackmailed him. I got loads of chances and Hey Presto managed to score some. Unbelievable the club has given me a pay rise, suckers! I won’t say who I am so you will never guess……… Cheers anon

The thing is , he is 22, first season in league, plays for struggling team and scored 10 goals in 22 games..

and it is noticable that he is a real threat…i just think he has great potential and has kinda proved it a bit so far in the league

  57. SpanishDave

Wishing that we loose is the general opion that Wenger might go, that is all.
We know thet the club has no ambition and Wenger goes along with it rather than fighting for more money and getting top players.

  58. Gunz all gone

When I started supporting the gunners we weren’t the best but we were not what we are now….a fcuking feeder club. I haven’t changed, the club has.

    The lot out, now.

  59. bergkamp63

If the club/BOD had no ambition, we wouldn’t have a wage bill of nearly 150m.

I don’t buy into this BS about it being the BOD’s or Kroenke fault, if they weren’t prepared to back the manager we would have a wage bill to match that of Spurs which is 50m + less

  60. K.C.

Mata shows Giroud how it’s done. God we suck. Their midfielder has a better eye for goal than any of our strikers. Shameful. This one could get ugly folks.

  61. Arsene's Nurse

Giroud misses an easy one and Mata puts a difficult one away. That’s why you buy top players and pay them top wages.
