Jack Wilshere back in training | Arsenal have best shots to save ratio in the league | I like Cazorla more than Cesc

by & filed under News Review.

Welcome to Monday everyone. What a great weekend eh? Nothing like going to see a game in the sun. A game in which you spank your opponents out of sight within the first half. Far less pressured than watching some of those nasty games against lowly opposition last year.

So, where are we? Well, we’ve bagged 8 points out of our first 4 games which sits us in third a mere two points off Chelsea. Pretty good going when you look at how bad a shape we were in this time last year. October onwards last season we showed Championship winning form until we stuttered with the rest of the pack late on. Is it too much to ask of this team to do the same and maybe extend it out a little? Maybe. However, you have to say that we’re looking strong and confident. The whole balance of our starting 11 looks much better.

It’s almost an exact replication of when Thierry left. Everyone questioned where the goals would come from, then what actually happened was a collective effort from the whole side to weigh in and help out. I’m not saying losing Robin was a good thing, but when you’re playing with someone who can finish off literally anything you throw at them, mentally, I think the team becomes too dependent, then after that, too scared to have a go.

Can we win the title this year? Highly unlikely I’d say. What we can do is give ourselves a far better showing this year. It would be nice to be in the chasing pack past February. A lot of that is going to depend on the fitness of the squad and our ability to maintain the strong defensive form we’ve shown in the opening four games. But as of now, things are looking up. With each win the side will build belief and camaraderie. Once you have those two elements going, who knows where the season could take us.

One great bit of news is that Jack Wilshere is back in training. To have him kicking a ball in mid-September is fantastic news for the squad and fantastic news for competition(I think I called it quite a way back as well). Where will he slot in if no one gets injured between now and October? We genuinely have a very good midfield this year. It’s certainly up there with the best in the league. I know we’ve only seen Cazorla for a few games, but I can confidently say I prefer to watch him on the ball than Cesc. He has a far more frenetic pace about his game. He moves the ball around with such finesse and style. I also think he’s more skillful on the ball. He has far more tricks in his locker. As for the rest of them, it doesn’t feel like we have a weak link. Some might say Ramsey, but I’m sure he’ll come good this year.

The only area we’re struggling with is up top and that mainly comes down to the fact we only have one striker and he’s new to England. Still, what better place to break your duck than at your old club where you banged in plenty of goals? Giroud will possibly get the chance to play up front tomorrow in our Champions League opener against the French Ligue One winners. It should be a really interesting game. They have some top players I’d be interested in signing. Particularly MBiwa. He’ll move somewhere at the end of the season, there’s no doubt about that. It’s a shame it wasn’t us… but the form Mertesacker and Vermaelen have shown so far vindicates that.

Talking of defense, it was interesting to see Arsenal have the best shot to save ratio on the Premiership this year. This in part is down to the fact that we’ve only conceded 9 shots in 4 games. It’s a smart way to avoid conceding… defend in a way that stops people shooting. The longer our defensive run goes on, the less likely it’ll end up looking like a fluke!

The big tests are coming up. We’ve got Manchester City this weekend, followed by Chelsea the weekend after. We’ll be able to make a far more accurate assessment of how good we are then. Heading into those games with form on your side is always a good thing. So let’s make sure it’s three points in the bag tomorrow night.

    Doomers are so boring,
now we are playing well they are wishing for our players to get injured so they can blame wenger for not buying.
can you support your team for once, we are third in the league with the best goal difference you should wish we keep it up instead of bleating like a goat. there is no transfer till january

I wonder what AW is going to do with frimmers … I like his love for AFC and we should try to get the best out of him … there´s nothing more powerful than a guy loving to play for the club he does – just take a look at JW two years ago. it´s just again those 2 – 3 % more you can give if you don´t have to play for the spuds 🙂 I am just afraid he misses more than those 2 – 3 % of ability to play for AFC 🙁 I hope I´m wrong

    sam…

am also very happy wt d way we r playin now but i aint getting carried away like u…its all too familiar. we v got january to redeem ourselves in d trasfer mkt

Zeus. Rennes fans booing M’Villa has absolutely nothing to do with his class and takes nothing away from his potentials. He’s refusing to sign a new contract, heading imminently close to a free transfer bar some surprise in January, if that was an important Arsenal player we would boo too. I’ve seen a whole lot of enfant terrible come to Arsenal and knuckle down because they are under a top class set-up, a global brand and a once-great manager whose mirage is still enough to nake players simmer down. Arshavin and Van Persie had no issue with team distruption unlike they were at their past clubs. I’ve seen M’Villa a few times and he looks good. Not just that, he looks perfect for us. That’s why someone like Diaby thrives in our system. A little bit of strength helps a team and he offers this aside his awesome clean-tackling credentials, amazing passing range (long and short), his concentration and that sprinkle of believe which makes a player confident that nothing can go wrong. Or maybe I should day, who do you think will be able to replace Arteta when he is injured, off-form or gone as he will do in a few years?

    World’s Best Keepers

    1. Iker Casillas
    2. Gianluigi Buffon
    3. Manuel Neuer

    125. Wojciech Szczesny

Okay, bit of an exaggeration, but the guy’s got a ways to go. Really should’ve reinforced. I like SZCZ too, but you have to ask what puts the team in the best position to win? One would think, at a minimum, some competition is in order–and lord knows that’s not coming from Fabianksi, Mannone or Shea.

    Podolski league goals last season
    18
    Rooney league goals last season
    27
No question who scored the most last season, but who was playing for a team that would have created chances as they chased a title and who had to perform in a team of relegation fodder.

  7. duvee

I love the 4th picture on the arsenal website for them training ahead of the montpellier match. It tells a great story. Gervinho is practicing his finishing from 3 yards into an empty net. And then in the background you see Chamakh looking at Gervinho and saying to himself…”I wish I could finish like that”.

  8. Dan Ahern

I think you can hate Rooney and still consider him world-class. In fact, I know you can, because I do. Until Hart came up he was the only one who you knew you HAD to have in the England team.

  9. Nasri's Mouth

When there’s a discussion on whether a player is or isn’t world class, do people actually agree what the definition of ‘world class’ is ?

I’d be interested in knowing peoples views on their definition

  10. Harry Redknapp

no rooney is just refeered like the rest of the prem are week in week out when he is faced by refs at international tournamaments, no conspiracy.

  11. Kripakar Marur

    mystic
People assume that it is easy scoring goals for a title chasing team. Actually I think it is more difficult as teams park the bus against you and as the top striker in a title chasing team you are a marked man. The pressure on you to score every game is immense. To a relegation threatened team, it is ok if you don’t score for a while. Plus fatigue is higher as you play a higher number of goals. For example, Grant Holt scored 15 goals for Norwich. If he played in front of the Man City midfield, he would have scored less. This is my theory. Feel free to disagree.

  12. Harry Redknapp

any average joe can score a world class goal. player have to do good things for 10 years consistently to be a true world class performer, not a 5 minute flash in the pan

“Seven Pistols Is the 11th man in your team the ghost of Alex Song?”

    Hahaha… My bad!

  14. Dan Ahern

zues, Nasri’s Mouth – Good points. I probably use “world class” more loosely than most. I don’t have a rubric that states he would theoretically beat out everybody in his position or anything like that. I just think he’s one of the best footballers on earth. I don’t know if that’s top 25, or top 50, but he’s up there. And something else to consider is that he’s almost better at AM as he is at striker. How does the ‘world class’ system account for that? And what, there can only be 3 great strikers/left wingers/right backs/etc. in the world at a time? It’s too much semantics, so I use it in a more general way.

  15. Nasri's Mouth

So already quite a few variations on ‘world class’

Mine would be pretty vague, something along the lines of :

Within the top 5-10 in the world his position + regular starter for his country + would make starting line up of Barca / RM / Bayern / ManU / ManC / Chelsea.

  16. valerie gooner

just goin gack to szzczzzscsesny – its not just the fact he has made about a dozen or so high profile howlers in his short career – its the fact that hes such a cocky cunt – he acts like hes won every honour in the game and hes nothing to learn….and that playing for arsenal is beneath him

can anyone remember seaman making similar errors playin for arsenal? not a chance – he was 100% reliable and that gave the back 5 great confidence which was the platform for alot of our success….

The games against the big boys turn on tiny incidents – so whereas against southampton it didnt matter that szczesny made an almighty cunt-up, but against man city if it was 0-0 with 10 mins to go – and he did the same thing…would everyone be so forgiving?

Hes now an error prone keeper that is utterly useless at catching crosses….anyone that thinks we can win a trophy with him is a deluded halfwit….

Hopefully Wengers expression of utter disgust at szczesnys mistake is the real reason hes not travelling to Montpellier….I really hope Wenger is going to grow a pair of bollox and start using them

To be completely honest Id rather have a blindfolded Stephen Hawking in goal instead of Szczesny.

  17. Nasri's Mouth

Valerie: To be completely honest Id rather have a blindfolded Stephen Hawking in goal instead of Szczesny.

Go on admit it, you met him in a club and he blanked you, even after you’d offered him a quickie in the toilets ?

    From Marca……………

“If Mourinho does not believe in coincidences, this week he has reason to start. In September 2007, the Portuguese coach left Chelsea following two consecutive slip ups over the course of just three days. The 15th for the league and 18th for Europe. The exact same dates as Madrid’s calendar this year.

On the 15th September (the same date as the Madrid disappointment in Seville) he stumbled at home against Blackburn Rovers and, on a fateful 18th September, Abramovich’s team could not break the draw at home against Rosenborg in the Champions League. Two days later, Mourinho left Chelsea.

This coming Tuesday, the 18th, Madrid makes its Champions League debut against City. A win against the English team would put an end to speculation and it would all become anecdotal. If Madrid does not win, following the same pattern dictated by destiny, the next important date will be 20th September, the day of Mourinho’s departure from Chelsea.

This is Mourinho’s worst league season start. Never has he scored so few points (four of 12) in the first four championship games. However, it is customary for his teams to have an erratic start to the season. Last year, he conceded five points in the same number of games and, two seasons ago, lost four points in five games”

    From Arsnal.com
Arsenal Under-21s v Norwich: Martinez, Bellerin, Squillaci, Miquel, Meade, Eastmond, Eisfeld, Henderson, Olsson, Akpom, Watt.

Got to say that Squillaci is even the weak link in the U21 team.

  20. valerie gooner

eboue – 49 goals last season and the fact all our keepers have been utter shit for 7 years is whats called a keeper crisis…almunia, fabianski, szczesny – the only names missing off that list are Bozo the Clown and Ronald Mc-fucking-Donald…

In fact Im not sure if anyone else saw all the Arsenal keepers training yesterday?

Can’t agree at all. Cheney loves Arsenal, he says so, wants to play for us for life. You’ve got to have cockiness as a keeper, I like it. Sure he looks a prick sometimes like Saturday, but without cockiness his confidence would never recover.

His distribution was dire on Saturday though. Playing thru injury by the sound of it, which shows a bit of insecurity over his position which I. Some ways

  22. JOPPAAAAAAAA

Come on you Gunners tomorrow night and come on Giroud.

As I have always said ‘defence is King’. Good defence = giving yourself a chance.

1-0 win tomorrow night would be more than good enough.

Got tickets for the Carling Cup match for my boy and me. Not a prestige match I know but at least it gives my boy a taste of going.

His distribution was dire on Saturday though. ..could have been bad as he gave Soton at least 2 chances not counting the goal.

    —————-

What other team would put up with a keeper who gives a few goal opportunities to the opposition in every game….?

Forgetting how poor his distribution and overall game was on Saturday – just tell me – if you could – just what in the name of fuck was he doing when he gave that goal away?

His decision was ALWAYS to palm it away!! At no stage in his run up did he look like he was going to catch it…WHY THE FUCK NOT? Whats wrong with him?

I’ll tell you exactly what it is – he wants to be the star of the show – palming balls around the box and leaping around like Superman…but instead he ends up looking like Eddie the cunting Eagle…this is what you get with an over cocky keeper who hasnt a fucking clue what hes doing….he did the same for Poland in the Euros and was eventually sent off – for another atrocious tackle…his display in the Euros was catastrophic – every commentator was in agreement of this

His decision making is atrocious. This wont change – and i sincerely hope Steve Bould says to Wenger “Szczesny is a cuntknocker”

I know what you are saying about the difficulty of the way opposing teams set themselves out, but Rooney had a team behind him who created opportunities for him, Podolski couldn’t really boast that.

  27. El Tel

    Mystic

I never see teams put pressure on them Mancunts liket they do us. Wigan looked like traffic cones last weekend.

Looney gets away with murder against most teams in the Premier League. Sure He is a good player with decent technique but without the elbowing and pushing and kicking He is nullified. RVP is miles better than Looney and their fans will see this quickly if they havent already.

Looney is world class in the PL but in international football I would even take Defoe above the fat prick.

  28. Harry Redknapp

the joke of schezney is after he drops the ball he sits on the floor then grabs his ankle for a second thinking shall i pretend me ankles done lol, fucking mug

  29. El Tel

I saw Podolski control a ball at chin height with a defender all over his back, he controlled it then passed to a team mate.

This sounds easy but what I saw was how strong he is on the ball and holding off an opponent. He looked comfortable doing this.

  30. mystic

    El tel
That is why I am saying that people are under estimating Podolski, as the teams he faced were nearly all better than the one he was in.

  31. El Tel

    Harry

I am a Chesser fan because He is an Arsenal man but He isnt good enough going on what we have seen so far. Lets hope Wenger kicks him into shape rapido rather than back him for years like he did that Coco the Clown tosser.

  32. El Tel

    I know Mystic

Fact is German coaches dont give 100 caps to a dud. He is better than I thought he was going to be. The thing is the youngsters also have someone to look up to now in Podolski and Cazorla.

Giroud will come good too. Wenger will work on his timing like he did Anelka and stop him sntaching at shots. Its looking good earl doors for us but I am not getting carried away.

Cesc in January would be awesome . Wishing and dreaming for me of course.

  33. kwik fit

Chesney’s form dropped after his ‘man of the match performance’ at liverpool earlier in the year. Even though he’s out of form ATM I would still rather have him than Vito. Remember last season in the CL in Greece. How could we forget.

  34. Harry Redknapp

chezzas big problem is his ego, theres confidence then there is denial, the mans in denial, he needs to look at himself, and not in the mirror.

  35. sam

Cesc is like a loving wife who’s family played with her emotions and manupilated her homesickness to leave you.
you should consider giving her back if she still loves you. oh yes i will have him back and could have been better if we swap him with song.
i am surprised some people are talking as if we have a big squad like man city n chelsea. we still need some additions in january or we will choke coz cazorla is not super human.

  36. El Tel

    Kwick

That mistake by Mannone was not much different to Chessers on Saturday.

I think Mannone is a lucky keeper and he has a decent record when he has played apart from that ridiculous bycicle kick that he missed completely.

I still blame Gerry Payton the keeper coach. He is mot doing his job properly and needs to go.

  37. El Tel

    Sam

My only worry with Cazorla is a cold damp winters day in the North. Cesc became acclimatised because He was with us as a boy. The Caz might struggle. Hope not.

Podolski should be happy as apig in shit when it gets cold as Germany has similar weather to ours.

  38. kwik fit

    El Tel

Manonne’s got better distribution but still rather have the old confident chesney between the posts. But maybe his confidence has been shot. Wenger really should have got a back up in the window.

  39. El Tel

The Ox will get Better by Christmas and Jack should be in his stride. Cazorla can then take a break.

We have Rosicky,Diaby and possibly young Eisfield as back up for the odd game too.

What we dont need is a long term injury to the Caz. The only way this might happen is if he takes a kicking from one of Funguses rent boy teams.

  40. El Tel

    Maybank

Maybe you are right but Wenger would look more stupid taking Chesser as sub keeper if he says he is injured.

I dont believe Wenger sees O’Shea as a risk. Not very often do we see keepers go off injured.

  41. sam

squillaci is under 21 player now, this is cheating
why didn’t he take paycut and join a french club in the summer
imagine miquel, angha, bellerin are all mates now they have a new dudes to hang out with
do they share jokes with him in training?
footballers always deny they are greedy why is sebastien playing with kids? he’s old enough to be their dad

YOU have a very selective memory Seaman had plenty of gaffs in his career for arsenal and Most notably for England http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=20020622&slug=cup22
Seaman’s flub helps Brazil sink England

Yes Szczesny should not have dropped that ball vs Southampton but Jenkinson was in his way so he could not get under it properly and was reaching maybe he was not assertive enough to call Jenkinson out of the way who knows but Jenkinson is partly to blame he was in the way of the keeper but in no position to clear the ball ether. IT IS NOT all Szczesny’s fault in fact I would put 80% of the blame on Jenkinson go back watch the replay and you will see Szczesny is being forced to reach over Jenkinson to even get a hand on the ball

    M Fournier –

    1) The question I asked was Seaman playing for Arsenal NOT England…

    2) Theres an old saying in football for goalkeepers – if you come for it you better get it – if that means thumping your own player to get to the ball so be it. Szczesny was 100% at fault – he came for the ball and fucked it up royally. Part of being a top class goalkeeper is commanding your area ala Scmeichel, Seaman etc…. He should have barked at Jenkinson to fuck out oudda da way…and claimed the ball. Instead he palmed it to a southampton player, conceded a goal and rolled around like a gimp.

And you want to defend that?

Well if you saw Arsene Wengers face straight after the goal – I doubt very much hed have defended it.

The media and commentators were all in agreement – it was a howler by Szczesny.

“Arsenal’s unbeaten start has left them in good spirits while the only blemish against Southampton was conceding a goal after Wojciech Szczesny’s howler.”

I personally would have liked to see Mannonr continue in goal – playing well and kept clean sheets.

That said, Sir Ches needed game time and match fitness – am happy he has hopefully got the f’ups out of his system in a match when we were comfortable rather than 1-0 last minute

  48. sam

    Harry Rednapp,

    what a lame excuse?
keepers in that situation punch the ball out of crowded penalty area
this is so basic, its bad goalkeeping to try to catch the ball. and jenkinson makes a perfect scapegoat for you

  49. Harry Redknapp

chezza should have cught that ball one handed and done a cartwheel. fuckin pleb shit himself when someone nearly touched him

  50. valerie gooner

    H Redknapp –

Great theme music – if Szczesny ever becomes a country – he should make it his national anthem…

(Betya ill get about 10 people going – ehh how can Szczesny become a country? he only has limited territory and hasnt been ratified by the UN and would find it difficult to wear a flag on his head during games)

  53. W(here)AreYou?

What A CRazy Start to the season! OUr Goal difference was bolstered nicely against Saints and things certainly look brighter on the defensive side but concerns over injury are very well founded. Diaby Arteta Ramsey Frimpong alll have issues and when jaCk(!s)BAck, well he could brake down at anytime. POint is there is barely one player in the Arsenal mid field who is rarely injured, as we all know ! Maybe Coq will really get to shine, he not Diaby is the real reason we didnt replace SO(what)NG

Could you imagine worst case we could have to play say ramsey coq and Ox in the middle, or could Arsh come back and have his moment in the middle? is Weng holding him back for such emergencies? I do fancy Gerv to stay fit as I do Ox, bt Caz, im not sure yet, he does have that messi-esque stocky look which usually seems to bode well as far as injuries, or maybe i just made that up but anything could happen, and we dont have a player like him to come in, the closest would be wilshere obviously.

When Sagna get sback we Will be in good shape as well at the back! but left back is a concern, Gibbs is never fit and Santos is up on criminal charges, can he still play? I can see Verm again doing for quite a while which will be a shame. Although Sagna merte Kos and verm as a back four is pretty DENCH but not ideal, maybe.

MAn city will be very likely highly affected by their game against Madrid, and what ever the result they will be tired us less so, theoretically! BUt We could easily get something from that game, we have a different tactical awareness this season and city will definatly be approaching the game against us in a different way than they would have done a year ago, which could throw them! i =f our midfield cranks it and diaby Caz and arteta are nice and rested. I guess diaby Needs games not rest, so he should play , but Caz should be rested as Ox should. walcott should definitely play with Gerv on the left, coq arteta and diaby in the middle? Would that work?

Any way should be a Good night of fOot Ball Tomoorow , which we deserve after the bullshit international break still has left me with a slight empty feeling ,

  54. valerie gooner

    H Redknapp…

The word potential should be banned from Arsenal….

These are professional footballers earning millions – theyre either good enough or not.

If that was a one off mistake by szczesny then maybe you could forgive him. But its not a one off.

Thats why in June I made the comment – “in his first 5 games Szczesny will make at least 3 howlers…”

    Im not psychic.

    Hes just a poor keeper.

He has a few good asssets – shot stopping etc….but overall hes a poor, poor keeper.

Id rate Almunia higher than him. Ok maybe not Almunia – but defo Stephen Hawking.

I think it’s fair from me to tell you all

I’M TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH MIKEL ARTETA

I just can’t help it people

Don’t mind having XI Arteta’s plying for us each game

What a bless to have him on our side

  57. valerie gooner

    hr –

Again that was Szczesnys fault he should have SCREAMED at Kozza to leave it – thats called commanding your area…

Maybe in 5 years he may become a good keeper – so do we just write the next 5 years off in the hope that he may or may not come good?

Im not saying this to you – but to the nation of Szczesny and all its denizens…like Prime Minister Fournier

Wilshere, Arteta, Cazorla, Diaby (on form), Podolski, are an awesome quintet of footballers…a match for any team in world football

Our defence is looking great too…Gibbs is prob the most improved player since last season…

We just need a £15-£20m keeper and a £20-£30m striker to really get to the next level and start winning leagues

  60. Harry Redknapp

i feel that in the last seven years we could have won maybe 2 titles if we had a better keeper. in the next 5 years of schezneys developement what will it cost us.

  61. valerie gooner

well fergie used to say Schmeichel gave United an 18 point boost every season with his ability…

So Id defo say wed have won titles with a proper kepper….

Its jut so blatantly obviuous…its mind numbing

  62. Cesc Appeal

Baines should absolutely be on the shopping list for January, fantastic performance and great player, desperately needs to play for a ‘bigger’ team though

  63. Dan Ahern

Oh come on, Szczesny has a lot of work to do, but it’s not like he’s single-handedly sinking us. He just needs work on concentration and distribution. Besides that he’s got the traits you want in a goalie: good size, command, shot-blocking, chutzpah. Needs work but he’s not a failure, jeez.

  64. Keyser

Heh, fucking hell I can’t believe with the Champions League coming up, plus Citeh, Carling Cup and Chelsea you’re grasping like Sczcesney for something to moan about, just give it a bit of time.

  65. sam

oh oh sczesny witch hunt season has began on Le moan, i mean Le grove.
harry rednapp please quit it, its normal that players lose focus when the team is 4-0 nil up
we have 3 good young goalkeepers we should allow them to develop.
at least i am happy gervinho, jenkinson, gibbs, diaby and mertesacker are off the bashing menu.
now is sczesny on the menu, enjoy your polish chicken!

  66. valerie gooner

    Dan –

“He just needs to work on his concentration and distribution”

Totally agree as theyre both woeful.

“Besides that he’s got the traits you want in a goalie: good size, command, shot-blocking, chutzpah”

Size – Hermann Monster is big – you wouldnt necessarily want him playing in goal for you…
Command(ing) – Youll see from my above comments why hes anything BUT commanding…
Chutzpah – unfortunately this is his major weakness – he has a dose of the Nicky B’s about him: a living legend in his own dreamworld – but no-one elses…

He should be put out on loan somewere and if he can go 90 minutes without making a total cock up then we’ll see…
Shot-blocking – yes – its his best and probabaly only quality…

  67. bazza

The thing that I loved last Saturday was the commitment from every Arsenal player on the park. For the fist time in ages I’m optimistic. Unlike most of you I’m not obsessed with winning silverware. I want my team to show passion and pride in wearing the shirt. Players that have some other team’s DNA or mercenaries that try to con the fans or players that think its ok to criticise the manager publicly can all fuck off.

  68. Gary T

    Errr geekpie @20:16

Now here this young man, whilst I’m not bothered about the tunnel photo either way I really must object with regards the scarf seller photo. That picture possesses one of the finest denim clad arses you’ll find anywhere on the everyday net, without having to go all specialist and shit anyway (which then needs deleting).

Pedro, don’t listen to the fucker, that pictures great.

  69. bazza

btw Royal Bludger & Valerie gooner really don’t know that they’re born. Slagging off Szczesny after one dodgy game just shows you don’t understand the game. When Valerie gooner harps back to the good old days of Seaman in goal and how he never made the mistake that Szczesny did against Southampton is a joke. In Seaman’s last 2 seasons he was pathetic on crosses – lobbed from the halfway line springs to mind as well.

  70. valerie gooner

    Bludger –

we all know sceszny is immature, being 4-0 up in the first half made him complacent.
but he made 2 good saves in the second half and wenger is to blame.
why does he play someone just off injury and dropped manone? what was wrong with sceszny on the bench?

  72. valerie gooner

bazza – (is that short for “Im a right stupid bastard, me”?)

Seaman was in his late 30s and – as all great players unfortunately are prone to do – was in a state of decline…was he kept on too long? yes he most likely was…

However in his pomp he was a masterclass of goalkeeping – and would be regarded by most experts as the best or second best keeper of the Premiership era…

To compare Szczesny to him is like comparing Igor Stepanovs to Tony Adams…

You said he made one mistake?

If its only one mistake then why did I (and I repeat) say in June – on this blog – that in his first 5 games he’ll make at least 3 howlers?

Its because hes an error prone Eddie the Eagle-esque Coco the Clown mark 2.

Did you watch him against Greece in the Euros…??

    http://letsgist.com/poland-1-greece-1-szczesny-nightmare-with-clanger-then-red-card/
    This is the headline:
Poland 1 Greece 1: Szczesny nightmare with clanger then red card

Have a read of that article and tell me its only one mistake…

Would you like another dozen articles with similar headlines about him…no problem just ask.

  73. OPG

‘a match for any team in world football’ you’re getting carried away there..
Everton to finish ahead of Liverpool again? Very early days for that but they kept their best players, they have a striker who can hit a barndoor and Moyes after so many years, the only problem they have is perhaps Moyes being negative at times.
So Everton being robbed of 2 goals.

  74. valerie gooner

    kwik –

Im not wearing panties at the mo – i just got anorder in from some Chinese man for a pair of cycling shorts @ 96 hours wearing with extra tramploning and 20 minutes hopscotch whilst eating a curry….its actually hard to type whilst trampolining…

  75. valerie gooner

    OPG –

must be all the trampolining getting to me – but the reality is we wont know till we face top, top, super, super quality teams – so its an opinion for now – but id be very confident of facing any team with that midfield – its the goalkeeper that will, alas, be our downfall….

  76. valerie gooner

    kwik –

all I can do is repeat what I said about him – hes completely error prone…and hes getting worse – thats why I said hed make 3 howlers in his first 5 games…

And so far hes played 1 game and made 1 almighty nuclear howler.

To be honest if Mannone plays well against Montpellier then Szczesny could struggle to get back in…i think Wenger may be beginning to actually hold players responsible for their inept performances…

Could you imagine Denilson playing 200 times for Mourinho or Ferguson?

Denilson would struggle to get in to most Divison 2 teams…

Altho he did have a rough childhood so I wont be too hard on the extremely immobile non event of a footballer that he is.

  77. sam

    Kwik fit,

its called rotation and injury prevention strategy.
it wouldn’t hurt to keep cazorla on the bench if we play well we don’t need to bring him on and he will be fresh to face man city.
even arteta needs to be benched after city game
well i know Le clown will play them till they drop with deadlegs, its pointless to even suggest it.

  78. kwik fit

    Valerie
All top goalkeepers have been error prone in the early part off their careers.
wenger has probably promoted him to No 1 too early.

    Sam
Rotation is important but tomorrows match won’t be easy so I think santi should be played for at least 70mins.

  79. Dan Ahern

    valerie –

“Size – Hermann Monster is big – you wouldnt necessarily want him playing in goal for you…”

    Irrelevant.

“Command(ing) – Youll see from my above comments why hes anything BUT commanding…”

Your evidence is your own opinion? Okay…

“Chutzpah – unfortunately this is his major weakness – he has a dose of the Nicky B’s about him: a living legend in his own dreamworld – but no-one elses…”

Yes, it’s a double-edged sword to be sure. But confidence is important in being a keeper. SZCZ isn’t so big-headed as to whine his way out of the team like Bendtner. I haven’t seen anything to suggest he’s delusional about his own ability.
