Yann the man we need in the bag | Diaby to miss another Arsenal game | Pep for next year anyone?

by & filed under News Review.

Friday here, at last… the weekend can nearly begin.

Firstly though, we have to get through this post. Top of the agenda is transfer talk. Yann M’Villa is hot on the feeds this morning. Some are reporting we’re at an advanced stage with talks, others say we have to be careful because Bayern and Inter are sniffing around. So a bit of a mixed bag! I told you months ago that we were in for a big name in France and we were in talks for that name back in early February. It sounds like Dick Law was chasing this man…

If he’s good enough, we should go for him. Whether he’s £25million or £28million, if Bayern Munich can afford him, so can we. If Inter can afford him, so can we. Simple fact is, if Arsene trusts his instincts and this player is as good as everyone in the game thinks he is… then he’s not a risk at 21 for that price. He’ll have resale value etc…

It makes the news that Inter are courting Alex Song interesting. His agent said he’s interested in playing in Italy, but he tempered that by saying Arsenal were unlikely to sell one of their most important players. Obviously… as we don’t have a history of doing that. I’ve never been a huge fan of Alex Song, but I guess the simple fact is, he is an important player for Arsenal. 11 assists is about 4 times the amount of assists Alex Hleb ever managed in a season. He’s always fit… and he is the love child of Arsene Wenger.

A match made in forever heaven… sorry Geoff.

The key to this summer is not the hemorrhage players that are important to the set up. I can’t remember the last time we came out of a summer transfer windown with more players than we started… excluding ridiculous teenage purchases. I still wonder what our trophy cabinet would have looked like had we bought Arteta, Benayoun and Mertesacker two years ago. I hope we’re not sitting here next year wondering what could have been if we’d signed a DM, a creative midfielder and a striker.

Onto team news…

Rosicky is back! Hoooray!

Diaby is crocked… booo!

Honestly, the man has the worst immune system and muscle make up in the history of sport. He’s a 26 year old antique! A badly rusted Swiss watch you’ve just dropped in the toilet. He really should go in the summer, we can’t waste a squad space on him next year. Let’s get him fit and move him onto West Ham.

The Diaby issue leaves us with the probable midfield line up of Rosicky, Song and Ramsey. I’d imagine Benny will come back into the fold in the front three alongside Gervinho and Robin. Chamberlain really didn’t impress in the Chelsea game… he might be good to come off the bench if we’re struggling.

Arsenal.com do an incredible job of taking 4 lines of Wenger quotes and turning them into 920 stories. I sifted through the rest of the talk and there wasn’t really much to report on.

Pep Guardiola has left Barca. He’s not going to go anywhere for at least a year which does leave open the tantalising prospect of him joining us when Wenger hangs up his spectacles. Imagine that eh? That’s why it’s important we’re in the Champions League. We might not invest in players now… but the next guy in is going to want to overhaul the squad. If it was Pep, I don’t think too many would be upset.

Have a great weekend everyone, I’ll be back with a robust match preview tomorrow!

Pep wants to take some time out so I reckon we give Wenger one more season to build a title challenging side then the season after Pep takes over and his first signing will be the return of Cesc!!!

  2. Thomas. it's up for grabs now...

M’villa would be a fine signing..

Looks like Hazard is off the menu with the Captain’s table (City 7 Utd) now interested in the best cut of beef.. We cannot get involved in a bidding war with them.

How about popping back to Dortmund and waving a cheque for 25m in their faces for Goetze???

  3. Bergkamp63

    JOKE FRIDAY !!

Bob Diamond of Barclays 6.7m per year to run one of the world most successful companies.

Arsena Wenger 7m per year to win nothing for 7 years !!

    Now that’s what I call a joke !!

  4. Goonerfied85

    Morning,

I like the look of M’Villa, I think he would be a great signing.

A very important summer transfer wise but Pedro can you honestly hand on heart see Wenger changing?

I can’t I think we are being fed the usual shit for the Arsenal business model of season tickets etc.

    Joke friday hmmmmm…… Spurs?

  5. Bush Gooner

Guardiola would be great at the club, but I honestly cannot see Wenger giving himself the sack to make way for him.

  6. dennisdamenace

Diaby – A player with undoubted talent, but by far outweighed by his appalling fitness record, and his stinking attitude.

Time to get ruthless, release the fuck and send him on his way as a free agent, get the fucker off of our books.

  7. andy

pedro theo will not be ablet o play – we will play:
    szcz
    sagna, kos, verm, gibbs
    song, rosicky, ramsey
    benny, robin, gerv

  8. Thomas. it's up for grabs now...

The problem with Diably is simply who is going to buy him? The whole world knows his fitness record.

It’s like trying to sell a Porche 911 but all your mates know it’s a heap of shit as it breaks down at the end of the drive everytime you start it up and you’ve spent more on repairs than you paid for it.

You’re ad in Auto-trader will run every month!

  9. Doublegooner

You could imagine ‘Les Patterson’ Hill Wood replying if asked about whether Guardiola would come to Arsenal saying,

“We dont want his type here” !

  10. Ice

No kick no bollock no bite

    Easy win for Stoke

Song Rosicky Gibbs all Marshmallow Men

    Empty suits

Arsene you need to admit accountability say sorry and go now

Even your allies are saying this now

Regime change no less in 3 weeks

Not been so bored since the last days of Bertie Mee

  11. Goonerfied85

I have a feeling that if Ramsey plays against Stoke he might just have a good game as he has something to prove against them thugs.

I know he has be awful this season but just have a feeling.

    Could be horribly wrong though.

  12. Squirrel

If the board had any bollocks they would get rid of Wenger and get Guardiola in.
7 years without a trophy and no prospect of that going to change in the future means its time for someone else to have a go.

  13. JOPPAAAAAAAA

I know what will happen Pedro. In a couple of years time Diaby will eventually be fit, play half a decent season and you will be raving about how well he is doing and how we need that experience.

See how it works? See why I criticize and say he should be shipped pronto?

  14. Prateek B.S.

Wenger asked on Usmanov wanting to increase stake. ‘I’ve no shares so I’ve got zero to sell to him.’ Could he join board? ‘Why not?’

  15. karaul

Pep wants to take some time out so I reckon we give Wenger one more season to build a title challenging side then the season after Pep takes over and his first signing will be the return of Cesc!!!

without the Cesc part that sounds like my ideal scenario!

  16. adi

Diaby is a perma-crock, yes. Stinking attitude? I don’t think so. Should he be sold on, yes.
Get in M’vila and move song to diaby’s position. Then we’ll be one CAM away from a truly brilliant midfield. Frankly speaking, though, i can’t see both m’vila and vertonghen happening. We’d be lucky if even ONE happened under wenger.
An ideal summer would be buying podolski, another striker(Giroud/Suarez), a cam, m’vila, vertonghen and a keeper. That is of course a dream, getting in just podolski and vertonghen seems unlikely given our transfer record

  17. Mr Arsenal

Sell Diaby in the summer? What if we’d sold Rosicky and RVP when they had their injuries?

    Fickle fans!

  18. JOPPAAAAAAAA

Mr Arsenal proving in that one comment everything that is wrong with Arsenal FC and it’s loser mentality fans AND why we will win fck all for another 7 seasons with that approach.

  19. Prateek B.S.

The problem with Diaby is we wanted 2 shift him last year acc to John cross but no buyers for him. Only option left is to terminate his contract, As usual pathetic management by arsene and gazadis.

  20. Thomas. it's up for grabs now...

It’s not like we bought a Gold Cup winning Stallion who has suddenly developed a limp… The signs were all there.

Diaby spent 4 years at Auxerre.. 2002-2004 in the youths. 2004-2006 in the Senior squad….

    2004-05 Season.
After making his debut for the club, Diaby spent the rest of the fall season either playing on the club’s reserve team or dealing with injuries……….

    2005-06 Season.
During the season, Diaby featured early on during the campaign, but as the fall season wore on, he struggled with injuries, which subsequently, led to the playing failing to gain the confidence of Santini. Unlike fellow youngsters Sagna and Kaboul who were quickly establishing themselves at their respective positions, Diaby only featured in five league matches during the first half of the season

    Taken from his WikiP article..

2006.Arsenal sign him… The rest as they say.. is History!

  21. karaul

    isnt wenger friend with guardiola?

ive read something about how they call almost every week…? wonder what thery are talking about haha ////INSERT FRIDAY JOKES!!/////////

in that one statement you underline all thats bad about whinging arsenal fans on this site !!!!! believe in your team or why be a fan ?

  23. Bush Gooner

We should beat Stoke tomorrow but saying that, we said the same about QPR and Wigan. This game bears all the hallmarks of a potential banana skin that could see the likes of newcastle winning their game in hand against Wigan and before you know it they are level on points with us. A strong and assured performance is needed for us to muster a win sat just to have that cushion between us and the Geordies.

    Team

    ———- Chezzer———-
    — Sagna — Koz — Verm — Gibbs/Santos —

    ——Song — Ramsey — Rosicky —–

    ——Benny — RVP — Gerv —–

  24. Doublegooner

Diaby would get injured playing dominoes.

And his attitude does stink. Let him fuck off to the spuds.

  25. arsenal tom

Thomas… diaby gets sympathy because people think the injuries all come from the ankle break at sunderland.

fair play it was horrible, but he even said himself that before the ankle break he’d never managed to stay fit for a full season

  26. gambon

Big night on the tables last night Jopppaaa!!!

    Good post Pedro Hill-Wood!

MVila is a top player, him and Song could form a formidable partnership in the middle, would also give us much much more competition for places. Hopefully it would be Wilshere, Song, MVila & Arteta fighting for 2 spots.

I still maintain we desperately need an attacking genius in the Hazard mould.

  27. SDE

This is a perfect time for Usamonov,to create a legacy for himself..

Get in there, make Kroenke an offer he can’t refuse!!
A share buyout that Kroenke would be mad to turn down..

Once in,he begins to serenade Pepe, making him an offer he too can’t refuse a la Roman style, with carte blanche to have complete autonomy over players he wants..

Pepe signs & the likes of xavi, iniesta & co follow Pepe to the emirates..

As we sweep all before us,CL,EPL titles,etc,etc..

The glory years return..Usmanov is feted,Pepe is feted..
And soon enough,we’ll be looking back asking Wenger who?

I know it’s good to dream..
But I’m afraid this board will countenance any offer from Usmanov, just out of petty spite..
Rather than doing what is good for the long-term health of the club..

What these short-sighted geriatrics failed to realise is that
success on the level that Pepe has achieved for Barca, will increase their money pot that they cherish so much exponentially…
Just think of the commericial&sponsorship contracts..The markets that would open up for us..i.e.South American Markets..
    Merchandise Sales..
Companies would be spazzing over themselves to be associated with us..

New generation of kids, would start supporting us..
    Our fanbase would increase..

If this BoD are as money hungry as they claim to be..

Surely the opportunity presents itself to maximise their revenue streams,by pushing the boat out for this guy.
Or at least disappearing into the sunset & allowing Usmanov to come in,& show some intent, albeit serious intent.

The BoD,along with Wenger, should all be carted off to the looney-toon house..They are so out of touch with the times, its unbelievable..

  28. Goonerfied85

    Karaul,

Wenger to Pep “since we sorted you out on the Cesc deal how about sorting me out with Messi? I know he has 4 years left on his contract but how about £2 million?

Pep “Erm no Arsene it would have to be significantly higher”

Wenger “I’ve thought about it how about £1,5 million plus adds ons over the next 100 years”

    Pep “Go fuck yourself Arsene”

  29. Azed

    Mr Arsenal April 27, 2012 09:47:46

Sell Diaby in the summer? What if we’d sold Rosicky and RVP when they had their injuries?

    Fickle fans!
    ————————————————————————————
    Mr Arsene
How about we wait till all our players are fit before we participate in the League.
Oh by the way While we were waiting for RVP and Rosicky to be fit, some other team was winning a trophy(a real trophy not 4th place)

  30. koye

don’t agree with the sentiment that diaby has a ‘stinking attitude’ and neither do i feel he should be sold just yet. let him have an extra season and we’ll see if he can shake off his injury woes like robin and rosicky. he’s abundantly talented and i won’t lie, i fantasize about a full season with a fit diaby. with m’vila and wilshere returning to full fitness, we can afford to give diaby the benefit of the doubt for one more season.

  31. Arse&Nose©

hahahhaa shame on cesc. going to barca to play under his idol and instead he seems to have cursed the club!

  32. Geoff

Azed we signed Diaby at the same time we signed Ade, Ade has successfully played for three clubs since so I think we have given that useless piss taker long enough.

Theo was also signed on that day he’s also a crock but has played over 200 games for us.

Think before you call the fans names.

Exactly! We signed a player who had played 10 times in 2 seasons at Auxerre.

  35. Bade

    Grovers, you all morons

Read what Rosa said to Arsene.com, then you realise Diaby’s football age is still 21, not 26.

Pedro, address and amend you post!

  36. Mr Arsenal

Do fans realise that only one team can win the EPL? Arsenal have not had the money over the last 6 years to compete with the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd or City.

So we sell Diaby, whats to say the next guy who comes in can stay fit. We did not expect Wilshere to be out for a year, nor did we expect Ramsey to struggle to get bk into form from his ankle break. No one expected Vermalean to be out for month earlier in the season, nor did we anticipate Mertesacker’s injury.

    Keep the faith lads

Diaby became interested in accountancy after taking a course at the age of 17, while he was at the Auxerre youth academy.

Ah yes… So that’s why he’s still around!

AW. Abu. Thanks for coming over. I cannot reconcile this. I am missing 2.49 Euro.

Abu. Ah ok boss, here it is. You see you bought a baguette in Paris Airport. You remember, when you came to visit me at that clinic. They charged you twice but you only had one baguette. You are in credit for 2 Euro and 49 cents.

AW. Ah super Abu, Super. Call Ivan immediately before he releases the annual report. Tell him I have found the money. Take a rest now. You look tired.

  40. BOOZY

Got to say Mvilla would be a great buy. A pure defensive midfielder, no fancy stuff, just the basics, unlike our other 3 Dm’s.
But he is overpriced – If we a going to fork out 22 mil on a defensive midfielder, why not add 8mil to that amount and get us a world class striker – higuain, dzeko.

  41. Bade

    In a more serious note

The Diaby story now is beyond ridiculous, really it became even more ridiculous than the Amaury Bischoff one. Indeed Amaury never played for the 1st team, but he milked only one year salary out of us, but Diaby is milking us for years now, and in the few rare cases he’s managed 5 games before going back to his personal treatment room, we rewarded him immediately with a pay raise and contract extension

Maybe he has some video tapes with embarrassing stuff on Arsene or other members in the management. Blimey, no other logical reason he’s still an Arsenal player, not to mention giving him those extensions and pay raises

  42. Norgun

Pep Guardiola is Catalonian, joined La Masia at age 13 and played for Barca for 11 years. He knows the ins and outs of the club, has had the board’s and the fans’ full backing from day 1 and inherited a team consisting of Messi, Eto’o, Yaya Toure etc etc + the spine of the World and European champ winning Spanish team (Iniesta, Xavi, Puyol , Pique )and bought Henry and Alves. Anyone thinking he can replicate his success at ANY other club is fucking mad. Anyone thinking he can replicate Barcelona’s success is England and let alone with Arsenal should be locked up. You think Kroenke, given his track record with his US frenchises, would sanction Henry/Ibrahimovic/Villa???!! This is discussion is so fucking dumb I don’t even know where to begin. Your Comment Here

  43. Bade

    Pedro

Why not draw a poll of Arsene or Pep?

Anyone fancy the swap deal? Maybe this way we can reunite Arsene with his poster boy again …..

  44. dennisdamenace

Jopaa – A club that generates as much money as we do, continually over the last four/five years, and is sitting on close to £200m cash reserves AND STILL people make excuses for the man.

£8m a year to scramble to 3rd – value for money?

David Moyes could do the same fucking job for £2m a year…….

  45. Kavit Patel

So Cesc left Arsenal to go win trophies and play for his idol Pep.

Less than 12 months later: Barca win no trophy (of note, not counting the super-cups and world club) and Pep resigns.

Cesc, mate you should have just stayed at Arsenal and waited for Pep to sign for us in a few years.

  46. Arse&Nose©

The main problem our team has is the wastefulness of our wingers.
Yes Walcott has good stats on paper but how many chances does he get on the pitch!? Gervinho has also been a major flop, it really says something when Wenger opts to play benayoun or Ramsey in these positions against strong opposition.

  47. gambon

    Norgun

If he gets our players pressing and working like the Barca players do that will be worth 10 points a season instantly.

Wouldnt sanction an Henry???/ Are you fucking kidding? Wenger had £50m to spend last summer, it was his choice to go and make a £20m profit.

  48. SDE

    Geoff

To think, that wenger even dillied dallied on the Ade deal, back then tells you that wenger has form..

From what I recall, wenger had been watching Ade for some years..but the price was a sticking point..

Apparently Glenn Hoddle, when he was at Southampton, was going to sign him,but that deal fell through when he buggered off to coach Spurs.

And also West Ham were in for him,but got relegated,or encountered financial difficulties I think….

Wenger, ever the opportunist, but not an opportunist in acquiring trophies..

  49. kc

sign pep and make wenger his assistant…….he will get so pissed off and eventually fuck off to afro-french united

Pep! Pep! Pep! If that happens, we could perhaps lure messi! All these on the condition we have usamanov at the helm. Wenger and the crony board out!

  52. Goonerfied85

Whilst I agree with some people saying we should get behind our team no matter what I can’t get the constant defence of Wenger.

For at least the last two summers I can remember the board saying their is money to spend (for some reason £50 mill is in my head) before we even sold our star players.

So saying we don’t have money to spend is a bit of a tame thing to come back with in terms of competing, the only thing that fucks us is wages & the dross/ leeches still hanging on to the club.

  53. Bade

We can all fantasize about Pep joining us as much as we want

But if he came to England, probably it will be to Chavs

He might have a year off too

  54. BOOZY

Words of warning on Pep Guardiola:

    13 trophies in 3 years.

(There are a lot of AKBs here that would HATE to see us win anything under a new manager- cos they support the senile one, not the club)

  58. Eboue

Get guardiola in as arsene’s assistant when pat rice retires, let him work behind the scenes out of the spotlight and and recharge his batteries (get to know the club etc). If in 2014 arsene decides not to renew his contract offer the job to guardiola, if arsene decides to stay let guardiola move to another club if he wishes. Either way we’d get some of his magic for a few years and I’m sure he’d help reinvigorate the squad, plus every player in Europe would be queuing up to work under arsene and pep!

  59. Norgun

Gambon, you’re a banker. I shouldn’t need to tell you how corporate governance works. None of Kroenke’s clubs have spent any significant money, all of them turning healthy profits. 60. goondawg

22m for M’vila?? I’ll believe it when I see it!

I’d rather we spend 22m+ on a creative output like Hazard..

Damn could have used Diaby’s height and presence against the inbred cunts

  61. Arse&Nose©

Pedro, we all know that those trophies were not down to Pep alone.

He took over at the right time, a time when Barca’s best crop of young players were coming through. When the likes of xavi were reaching their peak.

I’d rate him more highly if he had half the success with a team like Bilboa.

  62. Pedro

A&N… it’s never all down to a manager… but he played a huge role in the development of those players. The guys is hugely tactical and has built an amazing system. Not just that, he keeps the egos of all those players in check.

    He’s done an amazing job.

How you can put a dampener on what he’s doing at Barca is quite amazing.

Then what does that make wenger in your eyes?

I first saw Llorrente at the 2010 world cup and told my mates that this guy looks like he could turn into a top striker.

End of last season I said Wenger should get rid of Chamakh and replace with Llorrente.

Now no chance after his performances this season….all the big clubs will want him and we all know how well Wenger competes with them.

It is pathetic & amazing that anyone can question Guardiola, yet remain loyal to captain no-trophy!

    Pep doesnt believe 4th is a trophy….

  74. BOOZY

pep made wenger switch to 4-3-3.

Wenger should go to him for lessons when he goes on his break, that may save his job.

  75. Kavit Patel

Saying that Pep was successful coz he inherited Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Messi etc is bollocks.

Luiz Felipe Scolari inherited Mourinho’s Chelsea

Rafa Benitez inherited Mourinho’s Inter Milan.

    What happened there?

  76. Norgun

Boozy, are you fucking kidding me? Pep’s whole 4-3-3 rests on Messi, Xavi and Iniesta, three of the best players the world has seen. The fact that you and Gambon can’t see the correlation between Barca’s results and those three is mind blowing. And btw Pedro, can hardly argue that the trio have big egos….

Guardiola has won more in 3 years than Wenger in his career.

Wenger has made 50000 decisions so he doesnt need to explain how that is possible.

  79. gambon

Guardiola trophies in last 3 years – 13

Wenger trophies in last 7 years – 0

    Hmmmmmm, would he improve us?

Points taken on the above post..

But to be fair,Scolari’s situation at Chelsea was down to player power..He managed to alienate some of the senior players,i.e.Drogba..

I think he tried to stamp his mark too quickly like AVB,rather than getting the senior players on his side like Ancelotti..
Let’s not forget, he won the world cup with Brazil& his relative success with Portugal..

Roman, has a way of making good managers look abysmal,if they are unable to fulfill his dreams of getting that elusive CL trophy..

    Didley Squat..

And what did Mourinho win with Ranieri’s inherited team..?
The history books will tell you the answer to the last question..& whilst you at it,the first question also..

  83. Kavit Patel

SDE, I know Scolari is a great manager….it was typical Abramovich nonsense that saw him leave in less than half a season.

I’m just trying to prove that just coz you inherit a great squad you are not guaranteed success.

And look at Mourinho’s Treble-winning Inter, Rafa Benitez took that over and couldn’t hack it.

Those saying Pep’s achievements are not that great coz Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Puyol, Valdes were already there are fooling themselves

  84. Arse&Nose©

Mourinho’s galacticos were rubbish against awesome Bayern. If they took their chances they could have trounced Madrid. Just goes to show that Maureen is no God.

    Words of warning on Wenger:

“”I’m here with my cheque book” Euro 2008

“We cant be considered a big club if we sell Nasri & Fabregas” Summer 2011

“The fans will be reassured by what they see” We went on to sign Bischoff within a week.

    “Fourth is a trophy”

“I will happily finish second for the next 20 years”

  86. BOOZY

Norgun is any difference between Messi before Pep, and Messi with Pep?

You make it sound like a monkey would win trophies with that barca team.

Stoke will park the midfield and the defense , and take us out on the counter. They will utilize all the dead balls, like throw ins, corners and free kicks. We need to pass the ball quickly, in the final 3rd and make better use of wingers.

    My line up

    ———- Chezzer———-
    – Sagna — Koz — Verm — Gibbs

    ————-Song———————

    — Rosicky — Benny—–

    ——Gerv — RVP — Santos —–

Keep : OX AND Ramsey on the Bench.

With this line up, we will destroy Stoke. Will he ?

Get guardiola in as arsene’s assistant when pat rice retires, let him work behind the scenes out of the spotlight and and recharge his batteries (get to know the club etc). If in 2014 arsene decides not to renew his contract offer the job to guardiola, if arsene decides to stay let guardiola move to another club if he wishes. Either way we’d get some of his magic for a few years and I’m sure he’d help reinvigorate the squad, plus every player in Europe would be queuing up to work under arsene and pep!

Are you saying that Pep, the former manager of Barcelona who has won countless trophies in 3 years will come in as an understudy to Wenger ?

Wenger for Barca? They try and steal all our worthwhile players – why not our manager? Guess many on here would argue Wenger is not ‘worthwhile’…….

No way we smash our transfer record on a defensive midfielder. If he is indeed going for 20m+ that’s us out of the running. Anyway it will kill Coq & Frimpong’s careers…..
